The rules that govern the vampire are well known. He does not die, but clings to life forever. Having lost his own life, he must steal the life of others. If a place is a home, he may only enter after he's been invited in. And though the vampire may look like a man, all traces of intelligence vanish upon death, leaving behind nothing but a beast. There are no vampires that can think like a man.
Natalie Day
None.

Clive. Clive, wake up.
Carol Pestridge
What? What? What's happening?
Rachel Fowler
We're here.
Carol Pestridge
We are?
Rachel Fowler
This is it.
Carol Pestridge
This is it.
Rachel Fowler
This is it.
Carol Pestridge
This is. This is a house.
Rachel Fowler
I know. You thought your money would buy you a cryopod tucked up George Washington's nose on Mount Rushmore. This is the best we can do.
Carol Pestridge
Well, where the hell are we?
Rachel Fowler
Last place anyone will look.
Carol Pestridge
Yeah, and it doesn't look like a very secure place to hang out for the next thousand years.
Rachel Fowler
You're forgetting you're an American now, Mr.
Alexander Broad
Shell.
Rachel Fowler
Home of the Doomsday Prepper.
Carol Pestridge
Yeah, very reassuring, Shelly.
Rachel Fowler
You want to go downstairs?
Carol Pestridge
Jesus. $20 million for a bungalow in. Where even are we?
Rachel Fowler
Willimanic.
Carol Pestridge
Willy. What?
Rachel Fowler
Willimanic, Connecticut.
Carol Pestridge
Willy. Willy. Mantic.
Rachel Fowler
Home of the Wyndham.
Carol Pestridge
Frog fight. What?
Rachel Fowler
The Battle of the Frogs.
Carol Pestridge
Am I. Am I still asleep?
Gabriel Urbina
Hey, you made it.
Rachel Fowler
Hey, Josh. We all good up here? Yeah. Head on down, Pam.
Gabriel Urbina
Security is tied up here.
Rachel Fowler
Assuming Mr. Shill hasn't been tracked on his way over.
Carol Pestridge
I wasn't tracked. Josh. Nice to meet you.
Gabriel Urbina
By the way, rumor has it the.
Rachel Fowler
Overhead nest got busted.
Gabriel Urbina
Are you sure your old pals aren't.
Rachel Fowler
On the lookout for a new place to get their heads down.
Gabriel Urbina
Or Aubrey Wood isn't roaming around Connecticut.
Rachel Fowler
Trying to ruin someone else's day. We don't know if that's even true. And security is your job, Josh. You want to keep talking on the street or what? Nah, everyone else is downstairs.
Gabriel Urbina
You're good.
Carol Pestridge
You know, for all the money I've spent on this, you could have bought a bigger gun. Josh.
Rachel Fowler
Hey, guys, this is Clive Shone.
Carol Pestridge
Me? Just carry on. Carry on? Seriously? This is going to keep us safe for 10 centuries? A basement in someone's house?
Rachel Fowler
Clive, do you have any idea how hard it's been these last few years to gather the materials needed to build this place?
Carol Pestridge
What, there isn't a Home Depot nearby?
Rachel Fowler
It doesn't look like much, but this basement is tight as a drum. Everything we need for survival, no matter what happens outside. Extra MBV cells for the pods.
Carol Pestridge
I don't know what that is.
Rachel Fowler
The battery's dumbass. The batteries that power the pods independently for hundreds of years. We're also using them to power everything else. Complete energy independence. Pods don't all look so pretty. No. We've had to Frankenstein most of them together. Far less suspicion getting individual parts than trying to source a complete pod on its own. Not an easy feat of engineering.
Carol Pestridge
Okay, and we've got all the stuff.
Rachel Fowler
The Hartshorn make it sound like crystal meth. Yes, we have the Hartshorn. We're taking it out of containment very soon.
Carol Pestridge
I've got the right people tonight.
Rachel Fowler
Yes, we've got the right people, Clive. I know what I'm doing, okay?
Carol Pestridge
So, like, do you need me to study anything? Like, do I have to know anything?
Rachel Fowler
What do you want to know?
Carol Pestridge
I don't know. Like, the stewardess always has important information before a flight.
Rachel Fowler
If I were you, I wouldn't describe anyone in this room as a stewardess. You can't learn about oxidative DNA repair on the back of a cereal box, Clive. But late to worry about any of that now. Look, you funded this at considerable personal risk. Everyone in the room knows it. You've done your job. You can let us do ours. We did it.
Carol Pestridge
We did it.
Rachel Fowler
We're going to sleep tonight.
Carol Pestridge
It's a bit like. It's a bit like the old days. All this, you know, underground. Exposed brickwork and cables everywhere. Distinct body odor. Feels like Red Valley.
Rachel Fowler
Well, hopefully not too much like. Everyone quiet. Shit. Pam. Pam.
Carol Pestridge
What the hell? Jesus. The last place anyone would look. You were followed.
Rachel Fowler
No, we weren't.
Carol Pestridge
Of course you were. Where Are your guns.
Rachel Fowler
We don't have guns. Josh is the only one who's armed.
Alexander Broad
You don't have guns?
Carol Pestridge
Guns? $20 million and you couldn't find the change for a few?
Alexander Broad
Hello, everyone.
Carol Pestridge
Becky. Francesca. I mean, how the hell did you get.
Natalie Day
And don't call her Becky. She doesn't like that.
Alexander Broad
I really don't.
Rachel Fowler
Is Josh dead?
Natalie Day
The guy outside? Yeah.
Carol Pestridge
Oh. I guess the overhead nest didn't work out so well.
Natalie Day
No, it did not. Aubrey Wood's army of twats destroyed it all. And every cryopod in England, for all we know. And everyone who's ever made one has gone to ground. So room at the end for two more. You've got at least one spot open now we've blown Josh's head off. So one more and we're all good to go tiptoe.
Carol Pestridge
Why don't you put the guns down for a minute and have a civilised conversation?
Rachel Fowler
There's no more pods. Everyone in this group has a specific role in making this work. It's the minimum amount of people you need to run a cryopod nest, barely. For a hypersleep period of this length, we don't even know if it's enough.
Natalie Day
I thought you'd say something like that. Well, it's pretty obvious where the weak link is, then. Thanks for everything, Clive.
Rachel Fowler
Wait. Wait.
Carol Pestridge
Look, you really could have hurt someone, then, Fran.
Natalie Day
You can't hide from me, Clive. Anything he's promised you is probably bollocks. We can give you all anything you want now we're awake again. Rebecca's actually CEO of overhead, so all of this really belongs to us. Anyway, I've got that writing.
Carol Pestridge
Have you?
Natalie Day
Step out from behind that box, you bloody child.
Rachel Fowler
It is not a box. It is. It's the ECMO machine. And if you put a bullet through that or anything else in here, all of this is going to be a moot point.
Natalie Day
Well, just hand him over, then. He was your money man and now it's us.
Rachel Fowler
You can't shoot Clive.
Natalie Day
I bloody can.
Rachel Fowler
I told you where the skeleton team of engineers needed to make this work. There is only one of each of us. So we have to be alternates for each other. Not the specialists, but skilled enough to manage. If we lose somebody, I'm the alternate for Bill, Bill's the alternate for Shelley and so on.
Alexander Broad
And who's Clive? The alternate, fool.
Rachel Fowler
The guy whose head you just blew off. So now Clive is in sole charge of Hartshorn transfusion.
Natalie Day
I'll bollock the it.
Rachel Fowler
You want to wake up. Blood toxicity in 8 weeks instead of a thousand years and find out.
Natalie Day
You can bloody teach us then.
Rachel Fowler
That's not. It's taken months to get him up to speed. You can't just.
Alexander Broad
You can't just.
Carol Pestridge
Yeah, you can't just learn about oxidative DNA repair on the back of a cereal box, Fran.
Natalie Day
Okay. Okay. Well, smart people. Let's brainstorm her.
Carol Pestridge
How?
Natalie Day
How are we going to manage this? How are we going to manage this?
Alexander Broad
I know what to do.
Natalie Day
Rebecca.
Alexander Broad
Oh, my gosh. She was losing the plot anyway. Poor Fran.
Carol Pestridge
Thank you, Rebecca.
Alexander Broad
That was all rubbish, wasn't it? Clive can barely transfuse piss into an open toilet.
Rachel Fowler
Yeah. Yeah, it was.
Carol Pestridge
So what did you say? It.
Rachel Fowler
I don't know. For your daughter, I guess.
Carol Pestridge
Thanks.
Rachel Fowler
Are we all done with the murdering now?
Alexander Broad
Yeah. I really am sorry for all the fuss, everyone. The last thing I want to do is throw a spanner in the works. I. I can assure you that no one else knows the location of this site or what exactly you're doing here. You can believe me. Because all I want is the same thing as all of you. I want to survive. But not just that. I want to wake up in a future where we can build a better world. And please don't take this the wrong way, but no matter how good your homemade hypersleep nest is, in a thousand years, when you poke your heads out of this little basement, if you don't have some help, you won't last a week. So my gifts to you in return for a place to get my head down for the next millennium are the resources that were put in place to protect and sustain the overhead board of directors. Once they woke up, they won't be needing them now, so they're yours. Do we have a deal?
Rachel Fowler
Sure. Can the gun go away now?
Alexander Broad
Of course. Awesome. Well, then, don't mind me. As you were.
Rachel Fowler
Right. Well, Josh was in charge of security and supplies, so. Shelly, can you and Remy take a look at the inventory? Come on. This isn't the first dead body any of us has seen. Let's go. You think you might do something about.
Alexander Broad
Oh, yeah. Me and Clive will do that. Sorry again, Pam, about the mess. Grab a feet, Clive.
Carol Pestridge
I'll walk with a cane. Rebecca, I don't know if I can manage carrying a dead body.
Alexander Broad
Just do it.
Rachel Fowler
Sake.
Alexander Broad
Watch her head.
Carol Pestridge
I've got it.
Alexander Broad
Don't bang her head.
Carol Pestridge
Oh, will I make it worse?
Alexander Broad
There.
Carol Pestridge
Okay. You sure this is.
Alexander Broad
It's fine. And the animals can't get to her.
Carol Pestridge
At least it's what she would have wanted. I'm sure.
Alexander Broad
Francesca, may you find the piece that so eluded you in life in the boot of this Toyota Prius. Too bad you couldn't cut it. Come on, let's get back.
Carol Pestridge
Beautiful words, Becky. Do you have any friends or colleagues you haven't murdered, betrayed or left for dead?
Alexander Broad
Left for dead? Well, we made you CEO.
Carol Pestridge
You know, it's actually much less fun being captain of the Titanic in the second half of the movie.
Alexander Broad
I could have shot you instead of Fran. It could be you taking a dirt nap in the back of a mid range family saloon.
Carol Pestridge
Yeah. Oh, thanks so much for not shooting me in the face, Becky. Why didn't you?
Alexander Broad
Anyway, Fran didn't take very well to be woken up early. She was getting unpredictable.
Carol Pestridge
Oh, where is I?
Alexander Broad
You're an open book, Clive.
Carol Pestridge
And I managed to put together my own cryopod nest.
Alexander Broad
You managed to pay other people with overheads money to put together a cryopod nest. But yes, clearly our interests are aligned. So here I am in. Where are we again?
Carol Pestridge
Willy, William and William and Tick.
Alexander Broad
That's it. Where is everyone? And what's with all the frogs?
Carol Pestridge
Everybody's going on about frogs. I don't know. I slept the whole way here.
Alexander Broad
You didn't see the bridge? Giant frog statues. Like 10ft tall statues of frogs?
Carol Pestridge
I don't know. We're in Frogwell, Connecticut because it was abandoned and they found a big, deep doomsday basement to use. I pay them to worry about things so I don't have to.
Alexander Broad
Well, do you trust them?
Carol Pestridge
I'm about to have a sleepover at their house for a thousand years. Yes, I trust them. Can they trust you? I'm afraid I can't really vouch for you.
Alexander Broad
We all want the same thing. We need each other now. And we'll need each other at the other end. For what it's worth, I meant it. We'll have overhead's resources that were put aside.
Carol Pestridge
What happened to the overhead nest?
Alexander Broad
Would you like to gloat?
Carol Pestridge
Yeah, I'd love to.
Alexander Broad
I remember smoke, fire, coughing. Lying on the freezing ground next to my pod, unable to move or hear or speak. And there she was, just standing over me.
Carol Pestridge
Aubrey Wood?
Alexander Broad
Yeah.
Carol Pestridge
What did she say?
Alexander Broad
She didn't say anything. Well, maybe she did. Like I said, I couldn't hear anything. By the time I could stand up, she was gone. The nest was beyond repair and 300 of overhead's nearest and dearest just stood about in ridiculous lycra bodysuits, getting Cold.
Carol Pestridge
What did you all do?
Alexander Broad
What everyone at overhead does. They looked to my father for help, but he wasn't there.
Carol Pestridge
He wasn't there.
Alexander Broad
She took him.
Carol Pestridge
What? Aubrey took him. She kid that Malcolm? Yes. What for? Where's she gonna go?
Alexander Broad
No. No ransom. No great gesture. They're gone. Maybe she ate him.
Carol Pestridge
Wow, Becky, I'm.
Alexander Broad
I always don't worry about saying anything nice. He tried to screw you over just like I did. You've only got one Landry to deal with now. At least.
Rachel Fowler
There you are. It's getting dark. I thought you'd gotten lost.
Alexander Broad
Just taking a last turn around the block. Pam, you've got to tell me about this. Frogs. I can't sleep for a thousand years not knowing the frogs.
Rachel Fowler
Oh, it's local history. A bunch of townspeople in the 18th century wake up in the night to this terrible sound, this awful roaring noise all around them. They're convinced they're under some sort of attack, so they arm themselves. Panic in the street, people firing guns in the dark. When the sun comes up, they find out what they actually heard. A mill pond nearby was drying out and the local bullfrog population made a great big noise, fighting each other to the death over the last of the standing water. No soldiers, no armies. Just a bunch of dead frogs.
Alexander Broad
That's so bizarre. What a weird thing to memorialize.
Rachel Fowler
At least they owned it. There's probably a poignant analogy in there somewhere. Why don't you head inside and mull it over? We've got a week's worth of bio assessments to get done for you in a couple of hours.
Alexander Broad
Yes. See you downstairs then. Don't catch cold, you two.
Carol Pestridge
You okay?
Rachel Fowler
Should have known something would come along and up our today. Happens to us every damn time.
Carol Pestridge
Yeah, well, it could have been worse. At least it wasn't Aubrey Wood who found us, right? Take a look around, Dr. Jennings. You're not going to see the sky again for a long time.
Rachel Fowler
Maybe. Maybe not.
Carol Pestridge
I'll have some faith. It's exhausting having to be optimistic for the both of us all the time. What is that noise?
Rachel Fowler
It's frogs. Easier to hear them with no one else around.
Carol Pestridge
I thought they all killed each other.
Rachel Fowler
Guess they figured something out.
Carol Pestridge
Want to ask them how they did it?
Rachel Fowler
Don't speak Frog.
Alexander Broad
February 12, 2064.
Gabriel Urbina
Action required.
Rachel Fowler
Come on, Shelly. Shelly, wake up. I need the aed. The defect. Shelly, you're gonna be okay. Is anyone else awake?
Alexander Broad
Help me.
Carol Pestridge
Why are you shouting?
Alexander Broad
Pipe down, Clyde. Time to get up, Becky.
Carol Pestridge
Why? Why is everyone having a Go. What's going on?
Rachel Fowler
Landry, get over here. I need you.
Alexander Broad
Pam, Shelly's gone. We need to get out of here right now.
Rachel Fowler
This isn't your fucking show. Landry. These people are my friends. Get over here and help me.
Alexander Broad
Pam, look at. Look at me.
Rachel Fowler
Look at me.
Alexander Broad
You're not thinking straight. She's dead. And we're gonna be dead too, unless we get out of here. Clive. Hey, dipshit. I need you to walk, alright? I can't carry you. Here's your stupid stick with the ice cube on it.
Carol Pestridge
Now, come on. What's the date? I don't know. The date. What year?
Alexander Broad
Jesus, Pam. I mean it. Let's go. We're leaving.
Rachel Fowler
Okay, okay. He's okay.
Carol Pestridge
What's the hurry? Why are we leaving?
Alexander Broad
Because I am not going to die in fucking Connecticut. Clive, move.
Gabriel Urbina
Oh, God, it's cold.
Carol Pestridge
Oh, fuck.
Natalie Day
Pam.
Alexander Broad
I'm not coming back for you. What are you doing?
Carol Pestridge
Becky, what happened?
Alexander Broad
The fuck should I know?
Carol Pestridge
How long. How long did we sleep?
Alexander Broad
I don't know. The street look a thousand years older to you? Pam? Pam.
Rachel Fowler
Had to check the computer before. Had to know.
Alexander Broad
How long was it, Pam?
Rachel Fowler
20 years? 4 months? 9 days? 2064.
Carol Pestridge
That's a long way off. A thousand years, pal.
Rachel Fowler
I know. I'm sorry.
Carol Pestridge
Well. Well, maybe we. Maybe we can go back in.
Rachel Fowler
No one's going back in there.
Carol Pestridge
No, no, let's just wait and see. I'm like, I'm sure it's all right. All right. Okay, let's. Let's get out our little black books. Who's going to have a few spare cryopods in 2064?

Red Valley: Episode 3.5 – "2043"
Release Date: November 19, 2023
Host/Producer: Kontinue Productions
Description: A mystery drama exploring the boundaries of experimental science, personal history, and the nostalgic quest to remember a peculiar level select cheat from Sonic 2. This episode delves deep into the complexities of survival and trust in a dystopian future.
In "2043," the episode unfolds in an underground cryopod facility located in Willimanic, Connecticut—a strategic hideout chosen for its obscurity and apparent security. The story centers around a group of survivors who have invested significant resources into building a self-sustaining hypersleep environment, aiming to withstand a millennium-long dormancy.
Rachel Fowler (Pamela Jennings): The leader of the group, Rachel is responsible for overseeing the facility's operations and ensuring the survival of the team during their extended sleep period.
Carol Pestridge (Francesca Jones): A pragmatic and skeptical member, Francesca often challenges Rachel's decisions, highlighting tensions within the group.
Alexander Broad (Clive Schill): Initially introduced as a security expert, Clive becomes a pivotal figure when internal conflicts arise.
Natalie Day (Rebecca Landry/Becky): A former executive who turns antagonistic, Rebecca’s betrayal threatens the group's survival plans.
Gabriel Urbina: Acts as the narrator and voice guiding the listeners through the unfolding drama.
At [02:46], the episode launches into action as Rachel (Pamela) urgently calls out to Clive, awakening him from cryosleep. The team has assembled in the basement of a seemingly secure house, striving to maintain their cryopod sanctuary.
Rachel Fowler:
“You thought your money would buy you a cryopod tucked up George Washington's nose on Mount Rushmore. This is the best we can do.” ([03:03])
Francesca (Carol) expresses her disbelief and frustration over the modesty of their hideout compared to their high investment.
As the team settles, Rachel explains the complexities of their setup, including the independent energy systems and the modification of the cryopods to avoid suspicion.
Rachel Fowler:
“The batteries that power the pods independently for hundreds of years. We're also using them to power everything else. Complete energy independence.” ([05:08])
However, Francesca remains skeptical about their preparedness and the presence of sufficient security measures.
Tensions escalate when Natalie Day’s character, Rebecca Landry, emerges as a betrayer. She confronts the group, revealing that the overhead nest—another cryopod facility—has been compromised by Aubrey Wood's forces, leading to the destruction of their resources and the death of key members like Josh.
Rebecca Landry:
“I bloody can.” ([08:27])
The confrontation culminates in Rebecca attempting to take control, leading to violent exchanges that result in the death of Josh and further destabilize the group's fragile trust.
Post-conflict, Alexander Broad’s character, Clive, proposes an alliance to ensure mutual survival. He offers the group access to Overhead’s resources, arguing that their combined efforts are essential for waking up in a future where they can build a better world.
Clive Schill:
“We need each other now. And we'll need each other at the other end.” ([09:15])
The group reluctantly agrees, setting aside their differences to consolidate their survival strategies.
Through Clive's flashbacks, the audience learns about the catastrophic events that led to the current predicament. Aubrey Wood's ruthless actions resulted in the collapse of Overhead’s cryopod facilities, leaving the survivors isolated and vulnerable.
Clive Schill:
“She took him. Maybe she ate him.” ([14:05])
These memories not only provide context but also deepen the audience's understanding of the characters' motivations and the overarching threats they face.
As time progresses, unforeseen complications arise. The group begins to hear noises resembling frogs, initially dismissed as local folklore by Rachel. However, the sounds soon signify deeper issues within the cryopod systems.
Rachel Fowler:
“It's frogs. Easier to hear them with no one else around.” ([16:55])
The eerie sounds amplify the sense of impending doom, suggesting that the facility's integrity may be compromised.
In the episode's climax, technological failures trigger immediate life-threatening situations. Rachel desperately attempts to administer first aid to a malfunctioning system, but chaos ensues as panic sets in.
Rachel Fowler:
“Landry, get over here. I need you.” ([18:26])
Amidst the turmoil, Clive realizes the severity of their predicament, leading to a frantic attempt to evacuate the facility before it's too late.
Alexander Broad (Clive):
“I am not going to die in fucking Connecticut.” ([19:02])
The episode concludes with the group's uncertain escape from the cryopod facility. They confront the realization that they may have only slept for a fraction of the intended millennium, raising questions about their preparedness and the state of the world outside.
Rachel Fowler:
“I'm sorry.” ([19:55])
The unresolved tension and looming threats set the stage for future episodes, leaving listeners eager to uncover what lies ahead for the survivors.
Rachel Fowler at [03:03]:
“You thought your money would buy you a cryopod tucked up George Washington's nose on Mount Rushmore. This is the best we can do.”
