That night the Bayside Marketplace outdoor mall along the waterfront was packed with people shopping, dining, and drinking in the bars. But screams, shots, and chaos shattered the peaceful evening, and as patrons ran for it, they were greeted by arriving police. A lot of police. People were detained, questioned, and their phone photos deleted. What followed was one of the strangest and fastest explosions of internet virality ever seen.
