Foreign folks, I have some truly exciting news. Something that could be a real bright spot this year for both you and me. Something we could do that's super fun and creative and truly meaningful. We can do it together. This week I realized it's been about 10 years since I've taught one of my eight week long storytelling workshops that I started in 2009, which led to the creation of our school, the Story Studio. You know, since then I have hired phenomenal faculty members over there. But it's been a decade since I've taught one of these eight week long workshops myself and I've never done one online. And I'm moving to Thailand in August. So there's only this very brief window of time where I could easily teach a few of these workshops for the time zones of the United States. Now, for the past few months I've been pretty worried because I don't have much of a savings and I don't want to move over abroad, you know, without an emergency backup savings in case of God, God knows what. Because a lot of God knows what is happening these days. By the way, if you want to donate and you don't want to take a workshop, my Venmo is Evan Allison. I can send you a postcard from Thailand. But workshops are a way I can give something of true value and get back to my roots and have a blast teaching again in a way that I hope inspires me to later teach workshops online for the time zones of Asia. So I've kind of been bouncing off the walls this week to have realized, holy shit, this is what I could be doing. I. I could start one in mid April, I could start one in mid May, I could start one in mid June. I could do three of these in this time. But first I want to survey everyone who's interested to find out what days and times would work best for the most people. I could teach one on weekday evenings, one on Friday afternoons, one on Saturday or Sunday mornings. I'm very flexible myself, so I want to get people's feedback about what day of the week and what time of that day would work best for you. Now, I do know that I would have to cap each class at 15 students, which means you should email me at kevinrisk-show.com right away. Each student would get to workshop two full length stories like the ones you hear on risk and one 5 minute story, and I think a couple of super short stories as well. I think in this short attention span era now, stories that are only a minute or 90 or 120 seconds are pretty crucial. So we would definitely work on stories for the stage or for podcasts, but also anyone who was interested. We could definitely touch on stories for dating or for networking, stories for job interviews, stories for wedding toast or eulogies, stories for newsletters or social media and I've been brainstorming on how this class could offer more than any other storytelling class I've ever taught before. We can definitely end it with Showcase, a show where you can invite friends or families online to to be there for it. I can custom tailor videos to send everyone a week in advance week in advance of each session featuring my lectures about aspects of storytelling and Q and A questions. You might have brainstorming videos where I give you prompts on story topics, other exercises to help you mind for more story material for the rest of your life, and even analyses of some of your favorite risk stories. So the weekly sessions, they'll also include some group exercises and smaller breakout groups or pairings. And I think it would be great to give every student in the class a one on one zoom call with me once we're a few weeks in so I can give a little personal support to each student in the class. The weekly sessions where all of us meet and share stories, will be about two and a half hours long and you'll get feedback from me and from everyone else in the class. It would be $500 and you can pay in two installments, one month apart if need be. Now you can be an absolute beginner or you can be a seasoned pro. Everyone is welcome. Many years ago when I was last teaching these, I saw so many people who started off convinced they might not be good at storytelling at all and their growth was astounding. And I believe so passionately that this sort of communal creativity is good for your soul, good for your mental health, good for the world. You know, we need more of this honest, compassionate, sharing creativity to counterbalance all the destructiveness you know. So email me at kevinrisk-show.com I'll send you the survey to figure out if mid April or mid May or mid June would be a good time for starting an eight week workshop for you. And whether it's weeknights or afternoons or mornings that would suit your schedule. So email me at kevinrisk-show.com even if you just have some questions. I'll put everyone on an email list and keep everyone apprised of what develops. And today's the day folks. Take a risk.
