Broadcast Date – June 24, 2026 ***You can find the player at the bottom of the page*** Our chats will be just that very conversational, not entirely sensible and with any luck totally enjoyable. Now, if you’ve been with me since this SEA AND BE SCENE adventure began some 16 years ago you’ll recognize today’s guest as one of my all-time favourites. In fact his first big on-screen role was in an East Coast Smash of a series I covered a ton during it’s 6 season run, and it was wonderful then to chat about his hilarious turn as the sidekick Des Courtney in REPUBLIC OF DOYLE – it has been pure joy watching his star rise to include countless starring roles in major motion pictures and award winning network TV too. In fact in the 12 years since the DOYLE finale there’ve been a non-stop stream of credits for acting, YES, but also for writing and directing too. Case in point his most recent work and the reason he was here in Halifax, Nova Scotia, a few weeks ago. For a special screening of his latest film THE VOICES OF OUR MOTHER which follows a dark chapter “when a family matriarch falls seriously ill, and her four estranged children return home to determine whether she has dementia or is possessed by evil forces.” It’s a supernatural horror in which he not only stars but also serves as writer and director. So indeed, there’s plenty to talk about about this movie including the leading ladies – Canadian screen legend Sheila MacCarthy and Mark’s real life costar Georgina Reilly. We’ll talk about how he came up with the fantastically frightening premise and discover some super cool details on how he managed the breakneck shooting schedule on his Hamilton set and dealt with the final edit amidst filming another movie over seas. We’ll also get the scoop on a few of his many upcoming projects including the crime thriller GOOD IN THE ROOM in which he stars, co-wrote and co-produced with his longtime pal Pat Kiely and the comedy/horror NICE PEOPLE for which he serves as director and co-star alongside Sosie Bacon, Ella Travolta and another dear friend and fellow Newfoundlander Shawn Doyle. We’ll also talk about his onscreen reunion with Oscar Winner Russell Crowe and his continued collaboration with mega award-winning composer Andrew Staniland. Plus we’ll play a custom round of 1st Things First, an epic turn of The Final Countdown and some of his favourite soundtrack music too. So with all that ahead let’s get to it… wait before we roll the interview there are a few things you should know. One – the Halifax hotel where Mark was staying – while lovely was no so great for recording audio, so this chat took place in my car. A show first, but honestly, given the quality of the sound might not be the last. Two – this was recorded back on Saturday, June 6th a week after his beloved Montreal Canadians were eliminated from the playoffs. That note will make sense later. And three – Mark’s schedule was bananas busy that weekend. He’d just flown in from a hometown screening in St.John’s amidst his filming of movie in Montreal and our interview was sandwiched in between meetings so even though I could talk to him for hours on end – our time was VERY limited so while we don’t exactly round out the full hour of our show I will be back at the tail end of the show with a special recap report from the CBMIC HALL OF FAME Ceremonies so stay tuned for that. Okay, I think that’s everything – and now without further ado here’s my long-awaited and wonderful sit-down conversation with the one and only Mark O’Brien. Follow Mark O’Brien on Instagram You can listen to our 2019 podcast chat with Mark here and our last chat in 2022 here. Broadcast Date – June 3, 2026 Our chats will be just that, very conversational, not entirely sensible and with any luck totally enjoyable. Now there’s an old adage that says “when you need something done, ask a busy person!” And listen, I know today’s guest is always busy doing something wonderfully creative – but since I really wanted to chat about this season’s entertaining slate of productions at Grafton Street Dinner Theatre, I could think of no one better than the fantastic force at the helm of all that hilarity. So yes, I’m interrupting her busy schedule so we can talk about the shows and so much more, including what it takes to cast each musical and the truly special skills each performer needs to bring to the table – literally! We’ll also talk about the experience each guest can expect from the immersive 3 hours of engaging entertainment, to the fantastic food to the truly incredible sense of community. Broadcast Date – May 27, 2026 Our chats will be just that very conversational, not entirely sensible and with any luck totally enjoyable. Now, if you’re a regular listener to the show, you know how much I LOVE MOVIES, so you’ve gotta know when they’re filmed right here in the homeland, that’s the absolute finest kind. And how wonderful it’s been to watch the phenomenal response from movie fans across the country to LITTLE LORRAINE. Filmed on Cape Breton Island, the gripping crime drama brings to life the lore of a tiny seaside town turned dark by an international drug smuggling ring run across the sea on lobster boats and on land, in of all things, coffins. So appropos, and have mercy, is it marvellous! The movie marks the debut feature for my guest today, who, after directing music videos for countless artists from Alicia Keys and Keith Urban to Coldplay and Classified had another music track come at him that would change everything. A song from fellow Nova Scotia Adam Baldwin that sparked something in my guest’s storytelling spirit from which an entire film unfolded. So we’ll talk about that moment and so much more, including how it felt make his first movie back home in the province and how that legendary Cape Breton hospitality showed up for him on screen and off. We’ll also hear how he wove music into the project, discover the importance he places in dreams and even get the scoop on his sophomore feature that’ll have him calling “Action!” back here on the East Coast. Plus, we’ll get to 1st Things First, play an enlightening round of INsights IN 10 and even spin some of his favourite soundtrack tunes throughout the hour. So, with all that ahead, we’d best get to it – here’s my Zoom call conversation with the one and only Andy Hines. You’ll find the player at the bottom of this post. Follow Andy Hines online at @andyhines.tv and his film at @littlelorrainefilm and check out the trailer here. Have a watch of “Lighthouse in Little Lorraine” by Adam Baldwin ~ the music video that started it all Andy and I talked about the wonderful Greg Thomey who starred as Uncle Huey in the music video ~ you can watch my on set interview Mr.Thomey behind the scenes of THIS HOUR HAS 22 MINUTES here. Broadcast Date – April 22, 2026 Our chats will be just that very conversational, not entirely sensible and with any luck totally enjoyable. With today’s guest I was over the moon, and I mean as far as fun flag-wavers for PEI go you’ll find no finer… or for the record busier! Now for the sake of full transparency I want to share two things – the first is that I would need a couple dozen shows to squeeze in all of this woman’s work – from her early days in front of the camera on EMILY OF NEW MOON to her directorial debut of THE SNAKE making it’s world premiere at SXSW last month there have been countless creative projects for the big and small screen. And the second – we recorded this call amidst the tiniest smidge of daylight on her schedule during the Canadian Media Producers’ big PRIME TIME 2026 festival this past January, where she was booked to speak as an industry expert – so we were limited time-wise there too. Did we talk about her making Playback Magazine’s prestigious 10 to Watch list? No. Did we celebrate all the amazing this she’s done with the Charlottetown Film Festival (now Anchorfest)? I promise I’ll put that at the top of my list for our next chat. For this call, I was focused on her super cool debut feature THE SNAKE and how she was feeling about it screening at one of the coolest festivals on the planet. We talked about her righteous company Club Red Productions, what it takes to be a producer, as many of her projects – past, present and future and naturally her affinity for the homeland. Plus – we got to 1st Things First, played an enlightening round of INsights IN 10 and even spun some of her favourite tunes along the way. So with all that ahead, we best get to it. Here’s my telephone conversation with the one and only Jenna MacMillan. (You’ll find the player at the bottom of the post!) Find and follow Jenna MacMillan online – Instagram, IMDb For more on Jenna’s production company visit clubredproductions.com While you’re here check out my podcast chats with stars of THE SNAKE Susan Kent here and Jonathan Torrens here. Broadcast Date – April 8, 2026 Our chats will be just that, very conversational, not entirely sensible and with any luck totally enjoyable. As for today’s guest I can tell you confidently it’s always a delight and that’s based on many years of knowing her and working with her too. In fact we go all the way back to the beginning of this SEA AND BE SCENE adventure – back when we were both hosting shows on Bell Aliant’s Community One Television. Fast forward about a decade or so and you’ll see she’s added a ton of incredible productions to her resume. From projects on the big screen like DANCING ON THE ELEPHANT, HAILEY ROSE and SXSW-winning feature THE SNAKE, to series work on shows like PRETTY BLIND, THIS HOUR HAS 22 MINUTES and THE CURSE OAK ISLAND to her most recent hit EVERYBODY’S MEG for which she just received the Canadian Screen Award Nomination for Best Webseries. So you best believe we’ll chat about all of that and so much more – including how she manages all the many hats she wears on set and what it’s like to shift from big budget productions to those independent projects. We’ll also hear what tops her dream production wish list and learn what she misses most about her hometown of St.John’s, NL. Plus we’ll get to 1st Things First play a truly enlightening round of INsights IN 10 and even spins some of her favourite tunes along the way. So with all that ahead we best get to it – here’s my telephone conversation with the one and only Terri Lynn Kearsey (you’ll find the player at the bottom of this post) Check out Terri Lynn’s IMDb page and follow her on Instagram @terrilynnkearsey Watch EVERYBODY’S MEG on Fibe TV1 in Canada and worldwide on trailerparkboysplus.com We played some great music on the show today and all of the tracks are available on iTunes. Broadcast Date – February 11, 2026 Our chats will be just that very conversational, not entirely sensible and with any luck totally enjoyable – and I’d bet any money if you’ve had the great fortune of crossing paths with today’s guest – you were more joyful because of it. After a mega award-winning career that spans more than 2 decades, 14 albums and hundreds and hundreds of live shows – we fortunate folks number off the charts. In fact, I’ve lost track of the number of times his name has been mentioned here on the show – from much anticipated headliner at a festival to a cherished co-writing session, a terrific touring partner, perfect producer and dearest friend – the impact he has made on so many is immeasurable. And while his humble side will fight me on it at every turn we’ll talk about all of that and so much more. We’ll also celebrate his brand new project set for release on February 20, 2026. It’s called Field Notes and while there’s no denying its production is like nothing he’s ever experienced for an album – I’d go so far as to say there’s never been a project that has captured the true artist that he is so magnificently.
