Once you start cutting things, it's hard to stop. Every day is a story. I'm Shannon Cason. Make sure you like and subscribe. When it warms up here in Detroit, everyone is outside right now is lawnmowers, leaf blowers, Home Depot runs, and just a lot of hard work. And I have two houses that I'm responsible for, for all the lawn work. And both of these are on the east side of Detroit. And one of my biggest things for this early season right now is to clear out as much as possible. I just want to start with a. With a clean slate, get everything out of the way. So at one of the houses, there's a tree right in front of the house next to the stairs. And one day I told the landscaper to cut the tree. I do want him to trim it. Just trim the tree so when you walk up the stairs, you don't have to brush around the tree. And this. He got overzealous. It was a young guy who was doing the landscaping. He got overzealous. And. And I just wanted him to trim it. And he cut it back to the white meat. He cut it, like, to the brown part of the bush. And now it's just all ugly right next to the stairs. And everybody's been giving me flack for it, like, oh, the tree looks so bad right there. So I'm gonna cut it down this year for sure. I'm cutting it down. And then at the other house, everything has to go. It's run over by bushes, and it's weeds that have turned into trees, and just everything has to go. Start with a clean slate. So I bought a chainsaw. I saw one that I wanted on Facebook Marketplace. I'm a Facebook Marketplace fiend. I'm always on Facebook Marketplace looking for tools or something unique to go into my house. And I made a deal with this guy for a chainsaw. And I got busy. Like, we were supposed to meet for the pass off, but I got busy. So I kept in communication with him. I let him know that I'm not coming today, but if I. If you still have it around, I'll be there in the next few days. And in the communication, he told me he was a pastor. And I was busy for those next few days. And he told me that, no, I want to keep this chainsaw for you. And I had that feeling, because I've been in church, that he had this, like, God told him to give me the chainsaw. So I was like, it's okay if you sell it, you know, they got other chainsaws. He like, no, I want you to have this chainsaw. So we finally set up the time to meet, and I could feel that he wanted to tell me something. Like he wanted to either take me through the sinner's prayer, invite me to his church, but I could feel him hesitating for some reason. I don't know if it was fear, because I used to do that too. Sometimes there's something to hold you back. And he told me a little bit about his church. He took my money, and I let him off the hook with a God bless you, pastor, you know, letting him know that I'm a believer too. And he just started. He started nodding strong, but I could still feel like something was there. But we went on. He might even. I don't know. First thing I did after I got the chainsaw was watch YouTube videos. Chainsaw YouTube. It's like one of the best YouTube rabbit trails you can go down. It's a whole culture to it. Well, I used to watch this show on TV about logging. I forget the name of it, but I like the culture of it all because it's dangerous, it's manly. I enjoyed watching that TV show. And when I started seeing Chainsaw YouTube, the Chainsaw fails are the worst. The tree cutting fails. Oh, man, that's just terrible. But now I have my very own chainsaw, so I'm ready to cut down some shit. And first up is that ugly tree that's in front of the house that I've been catching flack for. For the past few years. So I cut a little notch in it just the way the. In the direction I want the tree to fall, just like I saw on the YouTube videos. And I cut the other side, and it came down with the thud, like, boom. And I cut it up in pieces and put it all in the front of the house for pickup. They pick up dead trees and lawn work weekly at this time of the year here in Detroit. And once you do that, once you cut down one tree, you want to cut everything. You. Once you start chainsawing, you want to do more chainsawing. So I go to the other house, and everything is overgrown. And I start with this large, sprawling bush that's right in front of the house. And I'm sawing, and I'm sawing, and it's coming apart in sections. And I put the bush and big piles in the front of the house for the rubbish pickup. I've seen it before. This is big truck with a claw, with a big metal claw. And it comes. And it picks up. Picks up the branches and leaves and puts it in the back of the truck. And I go to the side of the house and I'm cutting those weeds and those trees that's growing at the side of the house and the ivy that's trying to come up on the garage, I pull all that down and I cut that at the root so it doesn't grow as quick anymore. And at the side of the garage, there's actual weeds that have become trees now. So I'm cutting those. And I'm trying to avoid the. The power line and the Internet line so I don't knock any of that stuff down. And now there's big piles of branches and bushes all around the perimeter of the house. This is a corner home, so there's. There's big piles of rubbish all on the sides of the house. And to be honest with you, it looks like a lot of work, but it wasn't hard at all. It was kind of fun. I had the chainsaw. So the moment of meaning for me is some work really isn't that hard. And it can actually be pretty fun if you had the right tools. But what about you? What's something in your life that you've been avoiding doing because you don't have the right tools yet? Or do you have the right tools but you haven't started yet? Why? What's your story?
