This year's playoffs reminded me why I loved the game in the first place.

I'm becoming an NBA basketball fan again. Every day is a story. I'm Shannon Cason. Make sure you like comment and subscribe. I used to love watching basketball in the 80s, the 90s, the early 2000s. It was a part of my life. Like watching basketball, playing basketball, arguing about basketball. I was actually at the Detroit Pistons game when we beat the LA Lakers in, in 2020. No, 2004. 2004. I was there with my first wife. So it was interesting time. And the Lakers imploded. Shaq and Colby were having their problems and the Pistons had a great team and just took advantage of them. This, that year, they won by four to one. They won four games to one. And so I love basketball is what I'm saying. But. But all of a sudden I just let it go. I got into other things. I got older, so I wasn't playing basketball as much. I got more into my creative side. I moved to Chicago. I was doing all these creative things with writing and storytelling. So I just casually watched the playoffs when it was on. Even this year. The Pistons had a great record. But I honestly, I didn't know who any of the players were. Only slightly. I watched games and I wouldn't know any of the names or I wouldn't really know their skill set. I didn't know. I didn't know who the players were at all. So I'm just watching the game of basketball and I'm rooting for the Detroit Pistons because that's my team. And one of the reasons I started watching more intently this year is because I'm caring for my uncle and guys like to talk about sports. Everything is parallel to sports in some way where women will talk about the direct subject. Men talk about the same thing, but we parallel it with sports. You know, a woman can be talking to her friend and talking her through a breakup or a divorce and saying, girl, you got to get back out there. You got to start dating again. Introducing them to friends and men may have that same talk, but will put sports in it. You remember the Pistons, worst team in the league a few years ago. They, they. They got a few picks. They practice, they hit the weight room. Now they back in the playoffs. They a good team in the playoffs. We'll find a way to bring some sort of sports into it. So with my uncle, he's a sports nut and I'm helping him out. I'm doing some caretaking for him. So I watch a little basketball so we can have something to talk about. We can keep a conversation going in this Year the NBA playoffs was fun and challenging to watch. I say challenging because it was a juggling act of subscribing to all these various network platforms. I don't know what the NBA had in mind. I know they had money in mind, but they weren't thinking about their fans at all. Because you had to. One game was on Peacock, another game would be on Amazon prime, another on ESPN or whatever channel it was. It was, it was nuts. But it was fun watching the Pistons come back to beat the Orlando Magic in the first round of game seven because I thought they was about to get kicked out of the first round. And I was like, dang, the Pistons had that great year and they about to lose the first round, but they won game seven. Then they went to another game seven. But the, the. All these game sevens were fun to watch. And then it was fun watching. It was not my team, but watching the New York Knicks going to unbelievable run. I love New York, so the city. So watching the Knicks go on that unbelievable run was fun too. So I'm setting up my new office. I got a new office that I'm setting up and most of the office is finished and I just installed a new 55 inch TV in the Office and it's new to me. I got it for a steal for like a great deal on Facebook Marketplace. So I had to get it. And I bought a projector for my bedroom, like for my new bedroom. And I like the projector because it can disappear. I never really liked TVs in my bedroom, but the projector, you put this, the screen up and there's no TV in the room. So I like that. But when you set it up, when I set it up, it's almost like I'm in the game. Like I'm laying down inside of the game watching sports. So I watched the NBA Finals in either room by myself or I have a little friend come over for a halftime lingerie show. You know what I'm saying? But the NBA Finals was amazing this year. Shout out to wimby. Wimby was playing. I, I really hadn't watched much Wimby. I like his brand of basketball. He plays dirty. He's. He. I'm a Pistons fan. So he plays dirty. He tries to hurt the other players, step on their feet, pushing players to the ground. Little accidental elbow to the face. Oops, I didn't mean to do that. My kind of basketball. So I like Wimby. And I, I can tell that the spurs are going to be a great team. Spurs have always Been a great team. They always been a tough team to play, but a few of the players they got. There's one guy, Ron Harper's son, Dylan Harper, I'm a big Ron Harper fan from way back. And Dylan Harper, his son, he gonna be a huge star. I'm looking at him, he might be as big as Wimpy, huge star. But New York this year, they had grit. Cat took over the first two games. Wemby had to redeem himself, show who he is for the game three. Game four was one of those memorable moments in NBA history. The Knicks came back from a 29 point spurs lead. And it was a string of incredible plays in the spurs mishaps. And it was just crazy to see them come back. I was blessed just to have watched that game. And I had the halftime lingerie show that game. So that was crazy. And the Wu Tang, you know, I'm a Wu Tang fan. Wu Tang was performing for the halftime. So it, it was a total crazy experience for me. And I'll be honest, I didn't want the Knicks to win game five. I didn't want them to win in San Antonio. I wanted them to come back. I like drama. I wanted him to come back to New York, play in the Garden for game six. I wanted that to be a close game. And I think it would have been iconic. It's iconic either way. But I'm saying, like, that would have been like. And then the New York fans were beating up anyone who wore spurs uniform, anybody who had a Spurs jersey on. It was whooping the ass. I just wanted to watch all that mayhem, you know, see if Spider man or the Daredevil come out to help the city. It's just. Just part my personality. I wanted to see all this craziness. I guess it says a lot about me. But they won game five and I watched from the projector in my bedroom all by myself this time. And it was just an amazing game to watch. It made me a fan again. It made me a fan again. Now I'm watching all the commentary on YouTube, I'm listening to all the interviews, and I'm having a great time discussing these games with my uncle and other people who love basketball. So it's good times. NBA. You got me watching again. Don't fuck it up, you know what I'm saying? With all these different channels and stuff. Get. Make it simple for fans to watch. So congrats to Jalen Brunson in the New York Knicks. The man is a winner. I didn't know much about him. That's a winner. Congrats to New York. So the moment of meaning for me is old passions don't disappear. They're probably just sleeping, but they can be woken up. These old passions. They didn't leave. They're just waiting on the right time to come back. But what about you? I wasn't watching much basketball, honestly, but the NBA got me back this year. They got me back.
