Everybody loves the thrift store. Now, which kind of F's it up? Every day is a story. I'm Shannon Cason. Make sure you like and subscribe. My daughter Zoe asked me to take her to the thrift store. Now, the new kids nowadays, they love the thrift store. I remember growing up, you used to hide if you went to the thrift store. You didn't want. Hand me down clothes. We didn't want clothes from Salvation Army. I mean, that was like the worst thing ever. But now it's a style choice which kind of messes up the novelty of it all. But such is life nowadays. So I took my daughter Zoey to the Salvation army and there's this large parking lot that's filled up like a shopping mall. I had to drive around a few times just to find a parking spot. And. And this is a sign of the times in a lot of ways, on a few levels. But we park and then Zoe is off. She's off to the races to find things before someone else snatches it. So I'm just sauntering around, you know, I take a stroll around the Salvation Army. This is what I do when I'm taking people on the errands. I just try to get my steps in. So I go to check out the books, and it's mostly grandma love novels. It's Danielle Steele and Nora Roberts books. No offense. If you like those books. If you go to the Salvation army, it's plenty to choose from at the Salvation Army. Go there instead of buying them new. Then I go to check out the vinyl. You know, I'm gonna check out the vinyl records, but it's mostly just show tunes and old Christmas albums and stuff like that. Things I'm not gonna really listen to. So I go to check out the electronics and maybe there's a. Maybe there's something over there, but it's nothing, nothing good. Just printers, computer monitors. So if you need a printer, you can go to the. Well, printers don't really cost that much. It's the ink that costs a lot. But you can find them at Salvation Army. You can't find any ink there. But. So I'm just walking around. The thing is, everybody is on to it now. You're not going to find any special gems. I'm not gonna find a Pioneer stereo system or a Technique turntable or first edition classic novel or just some vinyl that's hard to find. Some. Some unbelievable, hard to find vinyl. I'm not gonna find it because everybody knows about it nowadays. It's nothing New. If you find it, you got to be lucky. So actually, I'm just getting my steps in, just getting my 10,000 steps. I go to look at the clothes, and I've always been into getting used clothes, especially suits. Fellas, I think we should wear more suits, you know? So I would go to consignment shops, resale shops in various cities and locations, and I find some gems. Things that I would look for was good labels, like good brands, but also good fabrics and cuts. And I'm so happy that these tight, tapered pant legs died out a few years ago, because I love a fuller cut to my pants. A little more room. I need a little room, if you know what I'm saying. You. But I would always find some good finds at the consignment shops. And I got a. I got a few in my closet right now. Armani, some Ralph Lauren, Black Label. I wanted to find some purple label. I'm gonna find some purple label one day. Basic Hugo Boss suits. Hugo Boss suits fit me good because they, like. I'm taller, man, so they fit like my. My. My tall style best. Also, I would find used shoes mostly online, and I've sold a good amount of used shoes online as well. But I always look for classic leather brands like Auden, Allen, Edmonds, Todd's. I've got some really nice Todd shoes. And because I know how these brands fit my foot already, so I'm. I got that dialed in. I know how they fit my feet, and I could find some really good deals. And. And then this is a little secret I'm gonna share here, too. I would find really nice dress shirts online, used. Now, these are the nicer dress shirts. Sometimes they can cost upward of $200 for a dress shirt. And I have a few brands that fit me well. One brand that I always find online for, like, $20 is the Eton brand. And I. I can wear one. One of the. I think a size 17 fits me perfectly, Almost like a fitted shirt. Like a I've got it fitted or a custom shirt. And those are like $200. And I find them for like, 20 bucks. Under 20 bucks is easy. And it's all about what you do after you get the used clothes. After you buy something used, you have to have a process on how to bring them into your house. And a lot of times I would leave them outside to air out in the elements, especially if it's winter time. All that frozen air in Detroit can just wipe out any germs or if there's any bugs or Bacteria, it's very cold outside. Or I'll put them in the dryer to kill any unseen things. Like put them on high in the dryer for a little time so they won't shrink, but. But about 30 minutes in the dryer. And for my dress shirts, I would just take them straight to the dry cleaner to be laundered. And it'd be like, I'm getting new clothes back on the cheap. I'll be getting back brand new straightened press dress shirts that usually cost $200 when I'm getting them back for, you know, a fraction of that price. And it feel brand new to me. It's new to me, but I'm just walking around getting my steps in at this point, because everything has been picked through. It is overpriced. It's overpriced. At the Salvation Army. I found this cool hat. I got it on right now. Said Conversation Club money. I thought that was cool. $7. They charged me $7 for a hat at the Salvation army. This should be $1 or $2 at most. So thrifting has gotten to be too popular. And finally, Zoe is done with her thrifting. And we stand in this long line, long ass line. There's people around the corner like, long line. And we wait for the line. We get all the way through and we pay our 25, $30 for all our items. And we get in the car and Zoe asked to go to the real mall. Now she want to go to Somerset. You know, these kids, they posers. They, they not real. They posers. But the moment of meaning for me is when did getting hand me downs become popular? It became so popular that it changes the novelty of what getting hand me downs used to be. That's just a thought on my mind. But what about you? Do you wear hand me down clothes? Do you go to the thrift stores or consignment shops or. Or buy used clothes online? And do you have a strategy for when you get those clothes and you bring them into the house? Like, do you have a strategy for cleaning them? What's your story?
