Renowned academic counselor and “Last Chance U” star Brittany Wagner hosts Sharpen Up, a podcast that inspires, energizes and educates.
If you don’t know this southern, single mom yet - then hold on - she’s the wise mentor, helpful advisor, and judgement-free friend we all need. Brittany gained recognition from the Netflix original series “Last Chance U,” where she was the academic advisor to a prolific junior college football team. She changed the lives of student-athletes by believing in them, no matter their circumstances or obstacles, sometimes insurmountable.
If you have seen Brittany in action, you probably wish you could head to her office for some advice, some laughs, or just a reminder that there’s no better time than now to get your life together. Good news: you no longer have to live in small-town Scooba, Miss. or play college football: Sharpen Up brings Ms. Wagner’s office to you.
Brittany will share what’s on her mind – from current events to college sports to her own personal struggles - even dating! Sometimes funny, sometimes emotional, and always thoughtful, Sharpen Up is for anyone who wants to get motivated and inspired with a few laughs along the way.
Just make sure you have a pencil.

In this episode, Brittany calls journalist Drew Jubera, who was originally assigned to the GQ story that led to Last Chance U on Netflix. (In fact, he even came up with the title.) This episode is the first time we really hear from Brittany about some of her favorite (and least favorite) memories from the show, including controversial figures (Coach Buddy Stevens) and beloved students (Ronald Ollie). She asks Drew about Stevens - is he really an a**hole? - and Drew's favorite memories from Scooba, Miss. From old Coke machines to summer practice fields to why Drew thinks a junior college player led to the Patriots winning the Super Bowl two years ago, this episode is a fascinating listen.
