Here's something you need to know: the online market has become more sophisticated and being a specialist is no longer enough to place you at the top of your niche. Now there's many specialists... it's taking a whole new level of specificity and OWNERSHIP to create the sort of distinction that gets you noticed and perceived as an expert. The timing of this episode is important because this year I've noticed many more women are ready to step boldly into the spotlight, but are falling short because they're failing to differentiate. Simply posting more, being on more podcasts and creating 'visibility' doesn't lead to clients UNLESS you're distinctly different from everyone else! Over the years, I've worked with many brilliant women who were hesitant to lean into their unique expertise because of old fears and judgements. It felt safer to be inclusive, to be for 'everyone', yet it was exactly this desire to be selected by more people that was causing them to be overlooked. Simply - it's time to take a stance. But knowing exactly where you stand is only half the battle! When you tune into this episode we'll take it a whole lot deeper and I’ll show you how finding your unique place of personal power can make you irreplaceable. Here’s what you'll get in episode 302: Why does distinction shape the quality of clients you attract? I share the connection between your perceived difference and the people who want to work with you. How can you tell if you’re still blending in with the crowd, or if you’ve truly claimed your own category? I lay out the signs and the powerful feeling to look for. What’s stopping women from naming themselves as experts, and how can you move past those barriers? Let’s call out the old stories and step forward confidently. How will mastering your unique expertise help you create a business that’s profitable, flexible, and fulfilling? I promise it’s not as out of reach as you might think. Ready to discover where you stand and how to step into your own expert era? Hit play and let’s get into it! ………………………………………… Master Your Marketing - THE Training for women who are tired of being overlooked! Have you started worrying that your brand sounds just like everyone else’s, no matter how many “expert” tips you use to write in your 'own voice'? On this episode of She’s The Business Podcast, I’m challenging the whole idea that we need to focus on chasing audience growth first, and instead, show you that it's much easier to grow an audience if you find your own voice first so you can stand out with confidence and a distinctly different feel. So many women in business are taught to edit themselves, to try and sound the way they “should” rather than how they want. But what if that’s exactly what’s making you invisible? It’s time to get a little rebellious and talk about how you can connect with the right people by being unmistakably yourself. Joining me for this important discussion is the fabulous Julia Michelle, a former ER nurse who became a brand voice strategist after navigating her way through building her own brand - with zero business or marketing experience! She’s an expert in helping women move past the traditional marketing rules, find their vibe, and speak with clarity and real conviction. Here’s what we explore in this episode: Why is “audience first marketing” a trap, and what should we focus on instead? What does it really mean to develop a brand voice that fits who you are? How can you start recognising (and letting go of) the pressure to follow trends and copy others? How do you take a firm stand in your messaging without feeling like you have to be loud or controversial? What practical steps can you take to sound like you… and actually attract your ideal clients? If you’re ready to earn trust, show off your expertise, and start attracting clients who truly get you, this is an episode you won’t want to miss. Bring a notebook! About our guest: Julia Michelle’s professional journey began in the fast-paced environment of emergency nursing, where she developed a deep appreciation for attention to detail and learned to balance critical thinking with intuition. These skills became the foundation of her next chapter when she transitioned from ER nursing to entrepreneurship in 2020. Since then, Julia has dedicated her work to empowering women to confidently express themselves in business without being constrained by the expectations or opinions of others. Her passion for brand voice began when an early client, Rebecca, hired her to rewrite her website. Within just a week of launching the new site, Rebecca’s private therapy practice was fully booked and operating with a waitlist. The experience sparked Julia’s fascination with the power of authentic messaging. As she continued studying brand voice and marketing, Julia noticed a common pattern: many women were being taught to follow conventional marketing rules rather than trust their own expertise and unique perspectives. Today, she helps women challenge outdated marketing myths, understand the true meaning of branding and brand voice, and recognize the details that make communication impactful. Through her work, Julia encourages women to speak with confidence, embrace authenticity, and share their message in a way that feels genuinely their own. Welcome to episode 300! I couldn’t let this milestone pass without addressing something really important: what it means to be a woman in business today, and why the spaces we create matter. There’s been a lot of noise in Australia and around the world about whether we, as women, should be able to have our own spaces - whether that’s business events, support groups, awards, or even shelters. With conversations heating up everywhere from Parliament to social media, I wanted to bring it here to our community, because helping women succeed is why I started this podcast in the first place. Today, I’m sharing why female-only spaces matter to me both personally and professionally. I also touch on how changes to the law have taken away our ability to define and protect these spaces, and what that means for women in business. This is a real-world look at what we’re experiencing right now, why it matters, and how we can stand up for our rights without losing our sense of acceptance and inclusion. Here’s what I cover in this episode: Why are we talking so much about women-only spaces? What’s changed in our laws and why does it matter for us in business? What impact does removing the legal definition of “female” or “woman” actually have on our everyday lives, our safety, and our opportunities? How do gender gaps in leadership, pay, and funding still show up for women entrepreneurs, and what are we doing to close them? Why does having the option for female-only networks, support groups, and business programs matter for women’s confidence, safety, and growth? This is a conversation about our rights, our experiences, and our future. If you’ve ever wondered why these issues spark such strong opinions, or how they could affect your own journey, you’ll want to listen in. I’m so glad to have you with me for episode 300! ……………………………………… Are you a woman in business? YOU’RE INVITED! This is the story of how an old identity that I thought I had left behind, was still hiding in the background, holding me back, and slowly breaking apart my business! This week, I’m opening up about a very personal journey, one that took me right back to my old “corporate Jess” identity and showed me how she had quietly lingered behind the scenes, influencing my decisions and keeping my business from being fully aligned with who I am today. As women in our 40s and 50s we've experienced many identity shifts during our life: from child to teen, to adult, employee, and now entrepreneur. Add in wife, mother and other hats we might have worn and there's a lot of past and present 'selves' who each learned ways to be 'safe' and formed beliefs about what success really means. And, sometimes the ones we thought we’d left behind are still there, shaping our choices in ways we don’t notice until something finally drops into your awareness and you see the pattern. In this episode, I’m sharing how uncovering one of my past identities gave me insights that changed everything about how I was seeing my business and finally helped me make decisions that were aligned to my current and future self - not tied to the past! If you’ve ever second-guessed whether old habits or mindsets from a past life might be playing a bigger part in your journey than you wish, I encourage you to listen in. Here’s what you’ll hear me explore: Why does transitioning from a long-standing career to entrepreneurship often feel unsettling, even when it’s what we want? What are the subtle signals that some old beliefs or parts of your past self might still be influencing your choices as a business owner? How did I finally spot the hidden brakes that “corporate Jess” was putting on my business, and what did I do to shift out of those patterns? Why letting go of an outdated identity might be the most empowering move you make for your business and your personal life. How can you begin to step fully into the expert role that’s truly yours, and find a way to build your business so it supports both your ambition and your lifestyle? Ready for some real talk and maybe a few lightbulb moments? Tune in to this week’s episode and let’s figure it out together. ………………………………………… Are you a woman in business? YOU’RE INVITED! Ever considered that your business could be a valuable asset you can sell later on? Yes, even if YOU are the face of the brand! When you have a business you can run without it running you into the ground, it's got value that others want. Today, I’m chatting with Laurie Stirling, a business exit strategist with over 20 years of entrepreneurial experience! From starting a graphic design business from the ground up, to going through a tricky sale, she now helps others avoid the same traps, Laurie shares her experience that shows why most businesses never sell, why freedom should be designed in from the start, and what really makes your business valuable beyond revenue. Here’s a taste of what we tackled in this episode: Why is building a business that runs without you so important? Explore what makes a business actually valuable and saleable, and why most founders unintentionally build themselves into a corner. What do you need to consider if you’re the ‘rock star’ or personal brand of your business? We look at what it takes to turn your expertise into assets, so your impact and income aren’t tied just to your own time. How can you hand over responsibilities without becoming the bottleneck? Laurie shares practical strategies for delegating tasks (and decisions), and why letting go is just as much about mindset as systems. What are the biggest bottlenecks holding women founders back from real freedom? Listen out for the five common bottlenecks, and how to spot which one is capping your growth. Ready to get practical and start working on a business that truly gives you choices? Tune in to this episode, and don’t forget to try Laurie's “what’s your bottleneck?” quiz – and connect with us on socials to let us know your biggest takeaway! Every six months, it feels like the coaching world lights up with debates about what really makes someone a credible coach. As someone who’s worked in this field for a decade, I’ve seen all sorts of arguments, some measured and helpful, most just a noisy rant. Each time you see these kind of posts, it can make you stop and start questioning yourself. Should you call yourself a coach or choose something that seems less controversial? Maybe you wonder which credentials are really most important, qualifications or results... ? I find it really curious that the MOST important indicator that a coach is credible and delivers high quality isn’t even mentioned in those ranting posts! So let’s talk about it. There’s ONE piece of proof you should always look for before you decide whether someone’s coaching is worth your time (or money). Here’s a taste of what you’ll take away: How to spot the real signs of a coach who can genuinely help you move forward, instead of just talking a good game. Why copying someone else’s “formula” rarely leads to success, and what to look for instead. The number one metric you should be looking for if you want to know a coach is truly credible - this one is non-negotiable. If you’re ready to stop second-guessing your decisions and want to know the questions you really should be asking, this episode is for you. Ever wondered why some businesses seem to pull in the perfect clients with almost no effort, while others stay stuck, spinning their wheels? In today's episode, I'm sharing the three must-know insights about your ideal client that could be the missing ingredient in your business. If you've ever felt like your message isn't quite landing, or you're attracting clients that drain your energy instead of lighting you up, stay with me—this chat could be a game-changer. I've been where you are—juggling work, motherhood, and the dream of growing a business that allows you time and freedom. Over the years, I've seen a pattern: the most successful female entrepreneurs aren't just experts in what they do—they're utterly clear on exactly who they're here to help. In this episode, I’m unpacking the three powerful questions most people overlook, but which make all the difference when you want to really connect with your audience. Here’s a taste of what I’ll be asking—and why you’ll want to tune in: Why is it so important to know what your dream clients themselves think their real problem is? (Hint: It’s usually not what you think.) What do your clients truly want—beyond vague goals like “more clients” or “success”? I’ll show you how to get specific and why that matters. How can you spot the difference between what your clients know they need help with, and the things they don’t even realise yet? This is where your messaging really starts to connect. What simple tool have I used, and how can you quickly build a human, relatable client profile that makes writing content a breeze? If you’re tired of guessing what to say, or you’ve tried all the posting and still feel invisible, this episode is for you. Let’s make marketing feel simple (and effective) again. Have you noticed how money beliefs quietly shape the choices we make as business owners? Maybe you’ve caught yourself saying “I’m just not a numbers person,” or hesitating to invest in something you need because of that fear - “what if it doesn’t work?” So many intelligent women are unknowingly playing small because of stories we’ve absorbed about money and business throughout our lives. This episode is here to change that. I'm thrilled to bring you a conversation with Danielle Hayden, CEO and co-founder of Kickstart Accounting Inc. Not only does Danielle Hayden have 15 years of experience working her way from salon floors to corporate boardrooms, but she’s a passionate advocate for making finances practical, and even (gasp!) enjoyable. for female entrepreneurs like us. She’s on a mission to show us how the right numbers can empower us to make confident decisions and grow our businesses on our own terms. Here’s what you’ll discover in this unmissable chat: Why do so many women believe they’re “not numbers people,” and what happens when you stop using that as an excuse? How can understanding just a handful of key numbers put you in the driver’s seat, instead of feeling lost or overwhelmed? What’s the real cost of trying to do (or control) everything yourself, from bookkeeping to Canva - and how do you release the badge of ‘doing it all’? Why do we feel guilty about spending in our businesses, and how can reframing our beliefs free us to invest in the growth we want? How might holding onto the myth of being “too small” actually be the thing holding you back from the success you’re dreaming of? If you’re ready to swap confusion for clarity and take back control of your business money story, tune in now. This episode is packed with real talk, practical wisdom, and fresh perspectives. Exactly what we need to make business profitable and fun again! About our guest: Danielle Hayden is the Co-Founder and CEO of Kickstart Accounting, Inc., where she helps six- and seven-figure women entrepreneurs stop winging it with their money and actually understand their numbers. She’s your no-BS financial co-pilot with a side of “let’s make this business profitable and fun again.” With over 15 years of experience in the world of finance, Danielle has worked her way from accounting firm intern to the Co-Founder of Kickstart Accounting.
