This is going to be a super short episode, but I found this really helpful and I hope you find this helpful as well. When I first got into business, I wasn't familiar with this world of mindset. I didn't know what that meant. Maybe you don't know what that means either. It's basically the concept that what's going on your head is greatly affecting the choices you are making in your business, in your life, outside of your head. And as someone who is a visual learner and who learns best in like, MET metaphors and analogy, I had this conversation with my friend Alicia Wood this week and I, I don't know, I just found this really helpful. So we started talking about how there is an orange tree in the yard where I'm staying. And someone had once told me that one of the ways to like, bring abundance into your life is to look for something around you that is abundant and then anchor it. And then it's like every time you see the thing that is abundant, you remember this concept of abundance and you draw more abundance to you. Okay, it's a little bit woo. But I love, I loved it. And it's not allowed to be money because money isn't real. So it has to be something real that exists. And so I was telling Alicia, this orange tree in this yard where I'm staying blows my mind because it is so abundant. It is covered in oranges. So many. This person that owns the tree, they could sell the oranges, they could give away the oranges. They do give away the oranges. They have more oranges than they could ever even give away. And maybe you live in a place that has citrus trees, but I don't. So I was shocked to see how many oranges grow off one, being one tree. Later on in the day, they were harvesting the tree and they took down most of the oranges. They left some low ones for us to, like, pick so we can just go outside and grab one, which also feels just so abundant. But yeah, so they were harvesting the tree and then I looked at it and it was mostly Bare. And I thought, wow, that's still an orange tree. Like, it's still an incredible tree that provides so much, even if right now there aren't a lot of oranges on it. I'm someone who can have, like, honestly, my record is, like, an $80,000 day in Canadian. I think we made, like, $80,000 in one day. And, like, I can have an $80,000 day, and then when the next day is slow, be stressed. And that is not a good mindset. That's not healthy. It's not fun. It doesn' business fun. It's not, you know, practical. Because you gotta harvest the oranges, man. Just because you don't make sales one day doesn't mean you are not a good business owner. Just because you have seasons where there's a lot of sales and then seasons where you focus on delivery or seasons where you focus on growth and generosity and giving. Especially when you're talking about content creation. Seasons where you're just, like, posting a bunch of really fun stuff that grows your account gets eyeballs on you. You're still good. You're still a good business owner. You're still a good orange tree. Here's another about this orange tree. I have lost some people already. They're tuning out of this stuff. It's fine. It's fine. If this isn't your vibe, you can go. We have lots of practical episodes that you could listen to. I'll just keep talking about this freaking tree. Okay? So the guy harvesting the tree told us that it's really important to pick the oranges because then the tree will bear more fruit next year. Okay. It's really important to pick the oranges. You have to give away that fruit. You gotta sell it. You have to allow for growth. If you just let those oranges rot on the tree, it's gonna produce fewer oranges next year. Especially since it's winter right now. We hear a lot of, we need to have seasons of rest. We need to have seasons of energy followed by seasons of recovery. Sleep is important. Like, you get advice like this all the time. I see it all the time on Instagram especially. But, like, for some reason, this orange tree just. It all really clicked. Here's another one that also came up this week, because, you know, again, I was like, oh, you know, we're halfway through the month. We haven't met our goals for the month. And my husband goes, you know, the team that just won the super bowl, they're the best in the world right now, right? Like, they have the title and they still lost three or four games during the season. I was like, wow. Yeah, of course. Like, I really am an optimist. I really try and have a positive attitude all the time. I don't even like when people say, well, you can't win them all. Because my brain goes, why not? Why can't we win them all? Let's win them all. But seriously, the best team in the world didn't win every game in the season, and they still came out on top. I hope this episode found who it was supposed to find today. Think of me next time you're in the grocery store in the produce aisle. You're the best. Don't forget it. Let yourself have seasons. I love you. Okay, bye.
Podcast Summary: Shiny New Clients! Episode: What an Orange Tree Can Teach You About "Abundance Mindset" (for New Business Owners) Host: Jenna Harding (Warriner) Release Date: February 17, 2025
In this enlightening episode of Shiny New Clients!, host Jenna Harding delves into the concept of the Abundance Mindset, a crucial element for new business owners aiming to attract and retain clients effectively. Jenna begins by demystifying the term for listeners who might be unfamiliar with it, emphasizing its impact on both business and personal decision-making.
"It's basically the concept that what's going on your head is greatly affecting the choices you are making in your business, in your life, outside of your head." (00:33)
To illustrate the Abundance Mindset, Jenna employs a vivid and relatable metaphor: an orange tree. She recounts a conversation with her friend Alicia Wood, where they observed an orange tree abundantly laden with fruit.
"There is an orange tree in the yard where I'm staying... It is covered in oranges. So many... They have more oranges than they could ever even give away." (01:00)
This tree symbolizes abundance—its overflowing fruit representing the limitless opportunities and resources available to a business when one adopts an abundance-oriented perspective.
Jenna explores how this metaphor applies to business operations. She explains that just as the orange tree continuously produces fruit, businesses must maintain a mindset that attracts ongoing opportunities, even during slower periods.
"Just because you don't make sales one day doesn't mean you are not a good business owner... you're still good. You're still a good business owner. You're still a good orange tree." (05:30)
By viewing business fluctuations through the lens of an orange tree, entrepreneurs can maintain confidence and resilience, understanding that periods of low activity are natural and temporary.
A significant portion of the episode focuses on the importance of seasonality in business—recognizing times for growth and periods for rest. Jenna draws parallels between the harvesting of oranges and the necessity of allowing space for future growth.
"It's really important to pick the oranges because then the tree will bear more fruit next year... you gotta allow for growth." (07:15)
She emphasizes that just as trees need to shed old fruit to produce new, businesses require cycles of intense activity followed by strategic rest to sustain long-term success.
Jenna shares personal anecdotes to highlight common mindset challenges faced by entrepreneurs. She admits to experiencing fluctuations in her own business performance and the stress that accompanies inconsistent sales.
"I can have an $80,000 day, and then when the next day is slow, be stressed. And that is not a good mindset." (04:45)
By adopting the abundance mindset, Jenna encourages listeners to view these challenges as natural parts of the business journey, fostering a healthier and more sustainable approach to entrepreneurship.
Towards the episode's conclusion, Jenna offers actionable advice for implementing an abundance mindset:
She also relates the concept to broader life experiences, such as sports teams not winning every game yet achieving overall success.
"The best team in the world didn't win every game in the season, and they still came out on top." (10:10)
Jenna Harding's episode on the Abundance Mindset provides a rich and engaging exploration of how adopting a positive, growth-oriented perspective can significantly impact business success. Through the compelling orange tree analogy and practical advice, listeners gain valuable insights into maintaining resilience, embracing natural business cycles, and fostering a mindset conducive to attracting shiny new clients.
"Think of me next time you're in the grocery store in the produce aisle. You're the best. Don't forget it. Let yourself have seasons. I love you." (11:50)
