And I'm Mon X Change and this is simply rivalry. On this week's episode, we welcome Sapphira Cristal to the podcast.
Sapphira Cristal
We talk about opera and we find.
Monét X Change
Out what made Sapphira say this.
Sapphira Cristal
I am a conspiracy enthusiast and we find out what made Monet say this.
Monét X Change
Don't nobody know the trouble I seen Sapphira Cristal. Honestly, can we swap you out? I feel like you are my real My real sibling. Not fucking slob. The meth thing over there.
Sapphira Cristal
Simone, xj. Oh, my God. You're my niece, actually.
Monét X Change
Okay, so we need to set. People ask me about this when they see me. Like, I gigs and stuff, and then they come in contact with me. So Sapphira. Cristal. Was really. Was. Sorry. Is really good friends with my drag mother, who is Honey Davenport now. Are y' all. But you're not part of the Davenport.
Sapphira Cristal
I'm not a Davenport.
Monét X Change
You're not a Davenport.
Sapphira Cristal
I'm like, you know. You know how, like, in black families, if you really, really, really good friends, then your. Then your children are your really good friends? Niece and nephew.
Monét X Change
Yes. Yeah.
Sapphira Cristal
That's how we are, girl.
Monét X Change
I grew up calling so many family members. Not family members, non family members, just close family friends. Aunt and uncle. Like, that's how. That's how we. Like, that's how we showed respect to, like, people who are close to the family but not blood. Not even close, honestly. Sometimes they'd be. Sometimes someone I met, like, twice.
Sapphira Cristal
Close enough. They close to your mama?
Monét X Change
Yeah. Yeah, close enough to your mama. Yeah. So. So. So by that. By that proxy, you're. You're technically my drag aunt.
Sapphira Cristal
Mm. Yeah.
Monét X Change
Um, but so if you are. Cause you're a Southern queen, why you ain't never. Why you not part of a big lineage?
Sapphira Cristal
So I didn't start dragging the South, I started dragging.
Monét X Change
So you can still adopt the culture.
Sapphira Cristal
I mean, my own lineage is the house of Cristal, Boo. Boo. But I got, like. I got, like, 15 drag children, so.
Monét X Change
I think you do. Every time I talk to you, you have more fucking drag children like you. Okay, can you list your drag children, please? Dawn is your drag kid.
Sapphira Cristal
Huh?
Monét X Change
Dawn.
Sapphira Cristal
Dawn is my drag kid. You know, it's really funny is that people don't know how many drag children I have, and sometimes I don't. So I'm not listing all of them because I don't want to hurt nobody's.
Monét X Change
Feelings right now, baby.
Sapphira Cristal
It's not. I don't love them. And it's not because they're not my kids. It's just because I have really bad object permanence issues. And so, like, if I don't see them for a while, I am like. I just, like, start to list off the girls who I see all the time, and then they're like, well, you know, blah, blah, blah. Is your kid? And I'm like, they. Yes, of course I know that. They're my child. They're my child. I know who my kids are.
Monét X Change
Okay, wait. Odd performance. I hear the words. I hear that. That term, that terminology, and I've deduced what it means by just the names. Like, when you see an object, you permanently. Like when you permanently see an object, that's when you know it's yours. When you don't see it, you forget it's yours.
Sapphira Cristal
Exactly. It's basically out of sight, out of mind. But it's not really out of sight, out of mind. It's kind of like. It's just like, if you were here, I'm very, very present is what I would say. I am very. I'm here, I'm in the moment. And then people who aren't here, I'm not. The wonderful thing about object permanence is that when you're with someone, they don't feel like you're somewhere else.
Monét X Change
Right.
Sapphira Cristal
You're like, you're definitely with them. 100%.
Monét X Change
Yeah, honestly, that's. That's. I feel like I had object permanence with my. With my fucking music back in the day, girl, if I. If I. If I did not work on a piece, bitch, I forget everything about it. I would, like. My teacher would try to, like, bring it back up, like, months later. I'm like, girl, I don't remember how this song go. I don't remember how this all go.
Sapphira Cristal
No, not at all.
Monét X Change
I mean, I have object permanence.
Sapphira Cristal
We all have a little bit of it.
Monét X Change
Yeah.
Sapphira Cristal
But, like, some. I have, like, really bad adhd, and part of my ADHD is object permanence.
Monét X Change
Okay. I feel like I need to get tested with adhd. Everyone tells me I have adhd. I don't feel like I have adhd. But everyone tells me, oh, yeah, girl, you have adhd. But also. And I don't want to, like, trivialize what other people, like, actually like, who go. Who have adhd. So maybe I need to get tested to get, like, an official diagnosis. But Patty. Patty loves somebody have adhd.
Sapphira Cristal
Most people have a little bit of it, I think.
Monét X Change
Right.
Sapphira Cristal
But just. And that's just like a cultural thing. That's because of these and the scrolling.
Monét X Change
And everything is just like.
Sapphira Cristal
Because of these. Because of these. Because this is a tablet. The tv, like, growing up watching tv, like, when lots of people didn't grow up. I mean, up until, what, 1999, 74, people didn't really grow up watching TV all the time. You know what I mean? And I just made that number up. But, like, sounded right to me. It was probably more like the 80s. Honestly, if I'm being honest.
Monét X Change
Well, you know, I get in these YouTube holes or something on TikTok doom scrolling and I fall into these like holes of these people talking about like time. And then my like how the concept of time really fucked my brain because we are closer to the Tyrannosaurus rex than the T Rex was to the Stegosaurus. Which is crazy to think about in my mind. Stegosaurus and T Rex were Kiki's sisters and they were on the whole time. But we are closer to the T. Rex than the Stegosaurus was to the T Rex. That's crazy.
Sapphira Cristal
I mean that's why we watch Barney all the time. Cause we love you as a somebody new.
Monét X Change
Also, bitch. All this crazy shit is popping in the world. Have the new thing that they discovered about the fucking pyramids.
Sapphira Cristal
No, girl.
Monét X Change
Where you been baby?
Sapphira Cristal
Writing music? I don't know, girl.
Monét X Change
So the pyramids in Egypt they did some scan or whatever and like apparently like the T. Rex built it close 680 meters under it. They found these long cylinder things under it with a spiral staircase going all the way down to these huge 80 meter like big like catacombs underneath. Like all under the pyramids. I'm like aliens.
Sapphira Cristal
Aliens. Like the pyramids was never nothing but a piece of alien manufacturing shit. I don't know. I think and I have always thought that the pyramids didn't actually get built by anybody.
Monét X Change
You really?
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah, like, and now that proves it.
Monét X Change
Okay. Are you a conspiracy theorist?
Sapphira Cristal
I am a conspiracy enthusiast. I think that they're fun and I think that they're. I enjoy just like getting into it, but I don't really like.
Monét X Change
I mean you do see something like the pyramids that seem like a. They truly are. I've never been to Egypt, to Cairo, so I've never seen them in real life. So I feel like I. No, no.
Sapphira Cristal
I go like three times a year.
Monét X Change
That's so fierce. She is the Cristal honey. Rich, honey, three times a year.
Sapphira Cristal
I'm always in Cairo.
Monét X Change
Honey, no, I've never. I've never been to the continent of Africa.
Sapphira Cristal
Which.
Monét X Change
No, no, I've never been to Africa.
Sapphira Cristal
Me either.
Monét X Change
I know. Which feels like Asia.
Sapphira Cristal
Three times a year. No, I've never been to Africa. My actual. My. My not stepsister, my sister in law is from South Africa. Oh word. And that's about as close as I've gotten to. It is like.
Monét X Change
Yeah. That person. Yeah. The closest I've been to South Africa. The closest I've been to Africa is going to orvo Peck's house for his white elephant Christmas party every year because he's South African. That's the closest. He's South African.
Sapphira Cristal
He is. Yes.
Monét X Change
Orville Peck is South African. He's from the. Really? From South Africa.
Sapphira Cristal
I don't hear that at all.
Monét X Change
Yeah, he doesn't have an accent at all. Isn't that crazy, baby, when you hear.
Sapphira Cristal
My sister in law. What did you just say?
Monét X Change
I think I do, I do. I like the accent. I think it's me too. I think it's pretty accent. Have you ever seen that viral video? Oh, my God. It's one of my favorite videos. Every time I see it, I have the same belly laugh. Every time. Those three South African ladies singing the the single to the left, to the.
Sapphira Cristal
Left.
Monét X Change
To the left, to the left. Everything only in a boxer. To the left in the closet.
Sapphira Cristal
That's my stuff. Dude, if I'm on. Hey, walk talks.
Monét X Change
I fucking love that video. It is so. I want to meet them. I want to meet these three ladies.
Sapphira Cristal
My favorite is can you walk and talk at the same time?
Monét X Change
That shit, y' all, that shit sends me. It is my favorite video I've ever and my favorite piece of content I've ever seen.
Sapphira Cristal
I don't think that they intended it to be what it is and I love that. I love that. It is something. It's beyond them. It is greatness in person about.
Monét X Change
And it really fucks up my brain that there is a world where you have such beautiful content. These ladies gave us Orville Peck, gives us this beautiful country music. And you have Elon Musk, which, by the way, I know all from the same place.
Sapphira Cristal
Baby. That's a Venn diagram that.
Monét X Change
I mean, look, well, now his fucking crazy ass father is doing all these crazy ass interviews.
Sapphira Cristal
He's alive.
Monét X Change
Yes, he's alive. And he, she, you know, I'm not gonna wish death on nobody, but I'm just gonna say I wish he wasn't. Um, I think he just wished death on him. I know I kind of just did. I don't wish death on nobody, but I wish he would die. But he is doing these crazy interviews, talking about Michelle Obama was really born a man. Like this, like crazy. Talking about conspiracy theories. All these crazy things, baby.
Sapphira Cristal
Sometimes I feel like we need to fight conspiracy theories with conspiracy theories. Like fight it back. Like if we, if y' all making stuff up, we just need to make stuff up too, girl. Donald Trump. Well, most of the stuff about Donald Trump you don't have to make up. It's already Ridiculous.
Monét X Change
I know. It's already out of control.
Sapphira Cristal
I like getting peed on. Donald Trump, like, getting peed on. True. That's not a conspiracy.
Monét X Change
Well, it's also like, I also feel like, you know, I don't know if you talk about politics a lot. I like to talk about politics. I mean, we're all.
Sapphira Cristal
I love it.
Monét X Change
We're all about. I just don't understand. I be feeling like the Dems, the liberals be trying to play 4D chess when the conservatives, they just be really straightforward. They have a plan called Project 2025 outlining what they're going to do. The Dems are trying to, like, do all these, like, maneuvers. Bitch. Just make Project 2029 and outline the things that you're going to do that's going to be fair. It's like, why are you trying to, like, be so cerebral? Just be playing with us.
Sapphira Cristal
It's what? Yeah, it's. You're playing chess, they're playing baseball, and it's like, what the fuck? Why are you not playing baseball? Come play baseball. Like, this is where we are now. Stop trying to play a different game. Also stop trying to play the old game. If the new game is what it is. Yes, girl, it's time for you to step up or get left behind. Because I don't think that. I've never thought that the Democrats were ever really, truly for us, because quite frankly, up until the Voting Rights act, they were thoroughly against us. And so I don't understand how all of a sudden all these people who were in this party are all of a sudden just like, for the people. They're not. They've never been. Well, you know, themselves the whole time.
Monét X Change
When they realize what a big building block that people of color are, I think that's when they were like, oh, we gotta be. Oh, oh, we got.
Sapphira Cristal
We actually.
Monét X Change
Yeah, we kind of need these. We kind of need these hoes, you know what I mean? So I think that's where that comes from. But yeah, I'm like, I mean, that's why they.
Sapphira Cristal
They start appealing to us. But just because they appeal to us and make gestures doesn't mean. And like, make small or make even some, Some. Some big things, but like, even all those big things, like, like welfare and all that kind of stuff actually provides for white people way more than it provides.
Monét X Change
That's the crazy ship. Who didn't realize, bitch? There's so many white people on welfare. First of all, white people are 12% of the population. You think more black people are using than against a 48% of white people.
Sapphira Cristal
In this country just by only 22% of welfare, and white people are 69% of welfare.
Monét X Change
So, like, just by the numbers, it just. There's no way that black people can be using more Welfare. We're literally 12% of the population.
Sapphira Cristal
No, no. And they call us. The welfare quits, girl.
Monét X Change
I have to say, there was when I. When I. When I. When I was after college, when I first moved out on my own, I moved out into my first apartment after college, and I was. I was in New York, and I was. I was like. I was trying to get. I was trying to get food stamps at ebt. I was like, oh, bitch, I get on food stamps. But because of what I made at the Yale. Well, at this time, I wasn't at the Yale Club then. I was working a bitch. I was working at the Holiday Inn jfk. Ooh, no, bitch. The Holiday Inn jfk, bitch. Just. We sold rumors by the hour, girl.
Sapphira Cristal
Hospitality, though, honey. We sold hospitality, girl.
Monét X Change
Don't nobody know the trouble I seen at the Holiday Inn.
Sapphira Cristal
They got songs. Where you been? At the Holiday Inn. You know, that was around the same time, too.
Monét X Change
You know what? Chingy Chingy did have us together with that, but, girl, I was like, wait, hold up. What's that? What year? Don't try to age me talking about that at the same time. Let me look up when Holiday end drop you. You got me fucked up and you're younger than me. Okay, let's take a break really quick, and I'm gonna do some research because some people trying to get me together. We'll be right back. Do you ever feel like you're on a dinner loop? Sapphira Cristal
Look, I don't know. Look. Object permanence. I can't figure out what time is either.
Monét X Change
Wait, girl. Back to more conspiracy theories. I really. I guess it's not a conspiracy theory. It's just real, like, time. I mean, so my boyfriend gets mad at me because I go in these huge things about everything as a construct, which it is we've constructed.
Sapphira Cristal
Gets mad at you.
Monét X Change
My boyfriend.
Sapphira Cristal
Oh, you got that Fast talking New York.
Monét X Change
I know, I know. What.
Sapphira Cristal
What you just say to me.
Monét X Change
You have such a great nose.
Sapphira Cristal
Thank you.
Monét X Change
Great nose.
Sapphira Cristal
You have a great nose. You have a great face.
Monét X Change
Thank you. As do you.
Sapphira Cristal
One of my favorites.
Monét X Change
Oh, sad girl. Well, you. You paint yourself.
Sapphira Cristal
This is not sibling rivalry. This is sibling ador.
Monét X Change
Ador. The way you do your glam is so beautiful and so soft. How long did it take you to get. I'm good at doing your makeup.
Sapphira Cristal
Well, I mean, my face is naturally beautiful. And so. And you know, that's not, you know, that's not me being humble at all. It's just a fact of life. And so I was always pretty no matter what makeup I put on it. And so the thing was, how good is the makeup itself?
Monét X Change
Got it.
Sapphira Cristal
Not how good do I look? Cause, like, I always look good, but, like, how good does the makeup and stuff? And I mean, I went through many different phases, and they were all like, I guess, good at the time. Cause I've been doing drag for like 15 years. So makeup has evolved. And over time, you continue to evolve with your makeup. And same with you, honestly, like, you know, you just continued to. I mean, how long did it take you to find, like, the Monet face.
Monét X Change
You know, I feel like it's. It's always changing, always evolving. I think the one that I, I, I, I. I settled on, and I was like, okay. I was like, I finally feel beautiful. I want to say that was like, maybe, like, I started in 2012. About, like, four years in. I was. No, that's not true. Yeah, about three. About three and a half. Three and a half. I was like, you know what? I like her. I like what she's doing. She's pretty. And our producer Jacob just sent me a video of Sapphira, Cristal from 2010. Sapphira at the Machine nightclub.
Sapphira Cristal
That was when I first moved to fucking Boston, too, bitch.
Monét X Change
You better work. You look like.
Sapphira Cristal
You look like.
Monét X Change
You look like Milan.
Sapphira Cristal
I was a year in. Oh, yeah, I love Milan.
Monét X Change
Yes.
Sapphira Cristal
This was one of the first queens I met in. In New York when I came out here for some. It was. Oh, girl, this was amazing. So there's this. Oh, my God, my memories. So I smoked way too much weed. Not today, but in life. I've been sober for six years, but, like, the memories are jumbled up in this frame. I did a thing called Friends of Dorothy, and it was three different styles of Dorothy, and I was Diana Ross. And we had, like, three Diana Rosses. And one of them was Milan. It was me and this girl named Cece Salcedo. Salazon. You might know CeCe from New York if you saw her. You probably know her. I'm a trans girl actress. And so we all did three different Dorothys. I did Dorothy. Oh, actually, we did two Dorothys. We did Dorothy from the Wiz, and then we all three did different Diana Rosses as well. Got it. And it was just so wonderful to, like, spend all this time with her and get to know her. Cause she's such a chill, calming spirit. I really enjoy Milan.
Monét X Change
Yeah, Milan's great. Very sweet, very lovely. I just feel like after season four, after her season of Drag Race, I had just seen her, like, around town in New York City, and I was just. You know, she came across so sweet and so kind on Drag Race, and she really is like that in real life. She really is a very kind, genuine, sweet person.
Sapphira Cristal
So I love her and super talented. Cause she said, I don't want to do this no more. I'm gonna go do Broadway. Thank you.
Monét X Change
It's my Broadway. I had dreams of being on Broadway, like, because, you know, I was in these classical, operatic streets since, like, high school. Like, that's when I was in that ensemble and we did a lot of, like, classical work and stuff. So I've always loved classic music. And then, you know, there is a thing of opera where they make you feel like Broadway and like, musical theater is still like, oh, you doing that. You're putting their nose up at mt. Did you agree? No.
Sapphira Cristal
Well, yes and no. Because I went to performing arts high school in Houston, hspva. And though I was in the. I did a lot of the classical stuff, but I was always in the musicals. We always had, like a. All school musical. We always had, like, a black history musical. And I always. Really, honey? Yes.
Monét X Change
And what's a black history musical? Like, y' all would do, like what?
Sapphira Cristal
It depends. Before I got there, there was a writer who would write a new musical for every year. Oh, that would be a different black history musical. But then when I got there, they had a different director come in. And so the first year we did oh, the Gospel at Colonists, which was a Broadway show that Morgan Freeman was in, and the Five Blythein Boys of Alabama. It was about Oedipus. Oedipus Rex at Colonus when he died. But it was all gospel music. It was. So look up a Gospel at Colonists. The music is so wonderful. The Gospel at Colonists. And baby, let me tell you something about Houston singers. They sang that you would swear. This was a professional. A professional theater. The way we did that Show.
Monét X Change
It's on YouTube. It's an hour and 27 minutes long. The Gospel at Colonists. Okay.
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah, it's a really great show. And then the second year, I think we did. They started. I think we. No, the second year. I forget what we did the second year. The third year we did a show called. What was the show called? It was August Wilson A tribute. It was a tribute to August Wilson. And I played 11 roles.
Monét X Change
11 in one show.
Sapphira Cristal
In one show.
Monét X Change
That's crazy.
Sapphira Cristal
Yes, it was quite crazy. I was in the piano. In the piano. The piano lesson. I did like six or seven solos, but I had to change for every single one. No, ma' am. Oh, the second year we did Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope.
Monét X Change
I have never heard of any. These must be some.
Sapphira Cristal
Their musicals from the 70s when, like, black musicals were, like, popping up all the time. Those are true musicals from Broadway. Yeah. Like, I really enjoyed my. My upbringing because, like, as much as I really, truly don't really like musical theater that much, and I think what I don't like and, you know, people can get. Get on me about it or not, I just don't like it. It's not my thing. It doesn't mean I won't listen to. It doesn't mean I won't watch it. It just means that, like, if given the option, what do you want to do? It won't be, go see a musical.
Monét X Change
Go see a musical. Got you.
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah, but I've enjoyed a lot of the ones that I've seen, so. But, yeah, those are the two shows. And then we did, like, a couple shows that were, like, created by the director. And so it was, like, a lot of different music and a lot of different things. And because I was, I guess, so talented, he was like, you're gonna do these. Oh, I think I was nine roles. It wasn't 11.
Monét X Change
It was nine roles is still crazy bitch.
Sapphira Cristal
It was my 11th. It was my 11th grade year, but I did nine roles. And I remember one time I got off stage, ran off stage, ran around. This is how I learned quick changes for drag, too. Ran off stage. They gave me my outfit as I was running off stage. Cause I had to change while I was running to the front of the house. And then I came through the front of the house in a completely different outfit, singing a whole different song from a different scene work and then singing down and walking down the aisle. It was. It was fun.
Monét X Change
Okay, now, so then. So in high school, were you doing. Were you doing a. Singing as a baritone or were you singing in your upper register?
Sapphira Cristal
I was baritone. Baritone. Okay. Yeah. I mean, I would do soprano stuff, but like, as a. Like, fun stuff with me and some of my friends who also had sopranos. So, like, me and my friend Josh, we would, like, he would sing Akish Fus, and I would sing the Queen of the Night aria because I had the night notes and he had.
Monét X Change
You could sing the full aria with all the notes maybe.
Sapphira Cristal
Sure. Could all the Fs and everything work? Not no MO. But I could.
Monét X Change
We all don't know. The Queen and I Aria is a famous one. Y' all have all heard it. I wish I could never. I mean, I do have a good. As a bass baritone. Whatever you want to call. I don't even know what I am these days, huh?
Sapphira Cristal
You're a bass baritone.
Monét X Change
My voice got it higher, though, in. In college, I was first bass. Yeah, I was like. Yeah, I had a contra octave C. Now I only have, like, an E on, like, a good day regular.
Sapphira Cristal
I'm like, you speak so high, and you're singing all the music. It's just the way that you've.
Monét X Change
Yeah, that's so sad. Do you think I can go back down?
Sapphira Cristal
Do you want. I mean, as you get older, it'll get deeper, right? That's gonna happen.
Monét X Change
Well, you know, I always come back. Thank God you're here. I always find it so interesting. And I think as, you know, as someone who's studied V and stuff in school, you get this too. Like, you know, people come for Mariah Carey because she can't sing like she used to, right? And like I, you know, and they're.
Sapphira Cristal
Did she not sing how she used to?
Monét X Change
Have you, have you, have you heard I've seen Mariah at a concert recently or heard her at a concert?
Sapphira Cristal
I mean, she can still sing.
Monét X Change
Can she?
Sapphira Cristal
Why would you expect her to sing the same way she sang when she was 20 something, right?
Monét X Change
Exactly. But I will say there are singers who can do that. Look at Chaka Khan.
Sapphira Cristal
Chaka chan cannot sing the exact same way girl.
Monét X Change
Pretty goddamn close.
Sapphira Cristal
She can sing really well and her voice is really great, but it's gotten deeper and.
Monét X Change
But she's still hitting them notes.
Sapphira Cristal
She is. And so I always love you, but her voice is up here anyway.
Monét X Change
But it's also you, Chaka Khan, you're thinking about. Bitch. This bitch was doing Bitch. She is. Chaka Khan was doing the things, okay?
Sapphira Cristal
She was, she was. And maybe some of those things are helping her still be able to do the thing.
Monét X Change
But, you know, but they're opera singers, right? Like as the voice gets older, it just starts to like, it's not.
Sapphira Cristal
I mean, that's why they retire. I mean, think about Leontine Price. Leontine Price was on opera for a while and then she just, then she did her final Aida and said, I'm done with the.
Monét X Change
What age was the final Aida?
Sapphira Cristal
I can find out. Okay. I think it was like, I think she was in her 50s, maybe 60s. And then she did another 20 years of recital, like she was. She did not have recitals and concerts. So just cause you're not on the stage anymore doesn't mean you can't sing anymore. And so she then kept being herself and still being able to do some things that you're like, that voice should not be able to do that.
Monét X Change
That's what I'm saying. Because I think that. Because I think that Leontine is someone who took care of her instrument her entire life. Yeah, like she took care of that thing. That's why she was in her 57. 57. That's why she was in her 70s. Still sounding fucking incredible.
Sapphira Cristal
Well, Leontine is a. Is A is my favorite story is when Renee Fleming got invited. Leontine invited Renee Fleming to her house.
Monét X Change
So if y' all don't know Leontine Price, just in case, for some reason, Leontine Price is one. Is probably. She is the grand dame diva, one of the greatest voices of the 20th century. Yes. In an opera. Opera. She.
Sapphira Cristal
If not of all time.
Monét X Change
Yeah. What was her Fox? Dramatic soprano.
Sapphira Cristal
She was a spinto soprano.
Monét X Change
She was a spinto. Really? Got it. Okay. And let's break that down.
Sapphira Cristal
Originally, she was a mezzo soprano, and then they realized that she had this. This thing. But it's a pushed sound that goes very strong. It's very loud.
Monét X Change
Yes.
Sapphira Cristal
She has actually so much depth in her voice that it. It's crazy because she still has all that mezzo. So she was able to go. My favorite one is that is when she would go and then she would, like, literally. And you're like, what the fuck? What just happened to me? And I.
Monét X Change
Okay, so we just had. Someone was listening, like, what the. Are these bitches speaking French? No. So a fach is what your voice type is. And there are many different fox, Right? You have. So the female ones. Can we start at the very top and go down to the bottom?
Sapphira Cristal
Do y' all want to know this? Okay, girl.
Monét X Change
But yes, this is the opera episode. I could never have this kind of intelligent conversation with Bob the Drag Queen, honey.
Sapphira Cristal
Well. Well, no.
Monét X Change
Maybe. I don't know.
Sapphira Cristal
Bob is a very, very, very learned person. He is.
Monét X Change
Bob is very smart. He knows a lot of stuff, but he don't.
Sapphira Cristal
So. Okay, number one is probably the highest.
Monét X Change
Skinniest little, like, truly, like, highest voice you think about.
Sapphira Cristal
It's probably the color tour of soprano.
Monét X Change
Color tour soprano.
Sapphira Cristal
And then below that is the dramatic color Torres soprano.
Monét X Change
Dramatic color tour of soprano.
Sapphira Cristal
Okay, so they're kind of, like, on the same level, but the dramatic just.
Monét X Change
Has a little more meat to the lighter voice.
Sapphira Cristal
And the. Yes, the dramatic is a bigger voice, but also has all that movement.
Monét X Change
Yeah, that's one of the.
Sapphira Cristal
Be like.
Monét X Change
Like, they be like, all the, like, voice that be up there doing, like, all the little high. Like, someone who sings this one, y' all may know this glitter and be gay. That would be. That is a coloratura, I think a dramatic coloratura, though.
Sapphira Cristal
And no, that's a regular color tour because. What's her name from. From Wicked.
Monét X Change
Oh, Christian Chenoweth.
Sapphira Cristal
Kristin Chenowetz sang it. And she's not a dramatic.
Monét X Change
True, true, true, true.
Sapphira Cristal
So, like, anybody can sing that. That's the wonderful thing about musicals is like anyone can sing them. Like you could sing it. And people are like, oh, I like the way you do that. Which I think is the. Is the. Is what unfortunately gets opera gives it. It's like I don't really feel like. Because no one feels welcome. You know what I mean?
Monét X Change
It's like gatekeepy.
Sapphira Cristal
It's so gatekeepy. It does opera a disservice to be so exclusionary.
Monét X Change
Yeah. So you have coloratura or dramatic coloratura actually. Let's take a look. Break and we'll continue. Continue on the list. Gonna take a little break.

Monét X Change
This is so fun. Okay.
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah.
Monét X Change
And we're black. Ok. Yes. Still. Still Coloratura Dramatic lights on my skin.
Sapphira Cristal
Underdramatic is so under the dramatic color tour. Honestly, it's weird because the dramatic. Once you start putting dramatic in something and then it kind of is over here.
Monét X Change
Yeah.
Sapphira Cristal
And soprano and like so you have your color tour. You have your sobrettes. You have your sobrettes. You have your ooh, sabrettes. There's a lot of different like fox when it comes to those. But you have your spintos. You have your lyrics. You have your full lyrics.
Monét X Change
Okay. Your lyric and full lyric. So that's so describe the.
Sapphira Cristal
So lyrics. Voices are voices that really like to make long lines. So coloraturas are. They like to. They love to move. They usually have a little faster vibrato as well. Lyric sopranos usually have like a slower sobrato, more steady. That and then also.
Monét X Change
Shady. Y' all heard that. That was so shady.
Sapphira Cristal
That was definitely a slow or verrado but it's. They, you know it does that and then sometimes. And then they like longer lines. So Puccini usually has lyric sopranos. Verdi can have lyric or color towards sopranos and kind of even both depending on the roles.
Monét X Change
So Puccini wrote operas like, like y' all. Y' all may know like Labo Wham la Bohem is basically. Not basically Laboem and Rob pretty the same show. So Mimi would be a Lyric soprano, right?
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah, she was a lyric soprano.
Monét X Change
Yeah. And Musetta is.
Sapphira Cristal
Full lyric. A lyric. A full lyric.
Monét X Change
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Sapphira Cristal
And like lyric sopranos could do. Okay. A lyric soprano or a soubrette would do. What is her name? Susanna from. And y' all can correct me if I'm wrong. Cause I might be wrong. The Marriage of Figaro, you know, from Marriage of Figaro. And a full lyric would be the Countess.
Monét X Change
Got it. So let's talk about like current day singers. Like Jennifer Hudson would be a full lyric.
Sapphira Cristal
Jennifer Hudson would be a Spinto on Instagram, toe pushing the whole time. Yeah, she's out there.
Monét X Change
Ariana Grande is a coloratura soubrette.
Sapphira Cristal
Coloratura, Yeah, I would say a soubrette. Like it's a small voice.
Monét X Change
Yeah, yeah, Small voice. Yeah.
Sapphira Cristal
But it's beautiful. Cynthia Riva is what a nice lyric. A nice soubrette lyric or a lyric soubrette, even if that's a thing would be sort of like Cynthia Erivo. Because it's very nice and very beautiful. But it's not like the biggest voice you've ever heard in your life. But it's steady. Big voices, they can be hard to. That's why it's so impressive to hear someone like Leontine Price or one of my favorite and your favorite, Jesse Norman is.
Monét X Change
Jesse Norman, honey mama.
Sapphira Cristal
Jesse Norman was a mezzo. A mezzo. Full lyric colorist. She was actually a dramatic soprano, but like she had such a range. Her range went all the way down to the basement, basically.
Monét X Change
And that's just jeans. Like, I'm like, yes, there is a part. She's also like six two. What?
Sapphira Cristal
She was six two, I believe so Jesse Norman is like six foot two.
Monét X Change
No, Jesse Norman. Six two is crazy.
Sapphira Cristal
Six feet. She was very tall.
Monét X Change
Malia Obama is six feet.
Sapphira Cristal
Is that. Oh, Malia Obama. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. She was 6 1.
Monét X Change
Wow. Jacky Nomen was 6 1.
Sapphira Cristal
But another color. But a coloratur who decided to be a color tourer is what is from Australia? La Stupenda, which I don't know. Joan Sutherland.
Monét X Change
Oh, Jones Jones Sutherland was. Was Australian.
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah.
Monét X Change
Girl, I did not know that. Well, no shade. No shade to the Australians listening. Australia. Do not, do not be producing musicians like that. Who else is Australian? That's fierce. Who? Oh, Kerry Takano was fierce. Okay, what about pop? Troye Sivan. That's all y' all got.
Sapphira Cristal
Kylie Minogue.
Monét X Change
Now you don't list Kylie Minogue. You think vocalist, you think like she's a fierce artist. You're not like, I don't know nothing about it.
Sapphira Cristal
I'm not in it. I listen to opera. That's what I do. You. I just. Look, someone said Kylie Minogue, and I said Kali Minogue.
Monét X Change
I just repeated what I heard. Now we're talking about singers. Talking about Danny Minogue. Honey. What's that, girl?
Sapphira Cristal
Kimbra. Kimber's from Australia.
Monét X Change
I. I even know who. Who Kimber even is.
Sapphira Cristal
She was in that song. Somebody Used to know. Somebody used to know. You didn't have to cut me. She was the. But she has her own music. It's really great work. Really great. I don't know where she been, but.
Monét X Change
Speaking of music.
Sapphira Cristal
Someone.
Monét X Change
50K for a verse? No. Album. Album. That's right.
Sapphira Cristal
Okay, so I don't know if I got a 50k for a verse with.
Monét X Change
No album out, but, girl, ain't that the dream? Come on, somebody.
Sapphira Cristal
That is the dream.
Monét X Change
Pay me 50k for a verse. We're ironing our shit out. Safira. Cristal.
Sapphira Cristal
Yes.
Monét X Change
So you're doing an opera, and you're like, you know what? Fuck that. I want to make my own music.
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah. I mean, I went to the Eastman School of Music for Composition. Like, I didn't go there for hours.
Monét X Change
You were a composer?
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah, y' all.
Monét X Change
Because the composers were the freakiest, kookiest kids on campus, baby. Like, they would be. They would be. They would be in the rooms, like, doing that shit all night. They'd come to find out. Oh, they also went to. They also had an orgy. And they also. I'm like, the composers.
Sapphira Cristal
Girl. I wish I was invited to the orgies, but I did hear about them. There were definitely orgies at the place where I went to school. It was mainly the theory kids who were there and some of the, you know, the singers. But there. There were definitely orgies. I only knew about it because someone called in to the school because they could see the orgy from their office building.
Monét X Change
No.
Sapphira Cristal
And they were like, hey, there's orgy going on in your.
Monét X Change
What are you. Tor. Oh, my God. That's crazy. You didn't close the window.
Sapphira Cristal
Damn, girl.
Monét X Change
Y' all about to close the windows. That's crazy.
Sapphira Cristal
Y' all just pounding it out. Y' all too busy.
Monét X Change
Wait, so did you compose some of the music for your project?
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, yeah. Yeah. I mean, most of the melodies and stuff. Yeah. Like, we. Yeah, I'm. I'm really good at melody. That's, like my. My favorite thing. And so, like, most of the ideas from this whole Thing are just, like, popped into my head, and I'm just like, hey, I want to do this now. Like, they would. I would send them melodies, they would send me tracks, and then I would send them something back on top of that, too. And so that's how we would just go back and forth. And that kind of has been working for me for a while because I have to have my hands in it. You know what I mean? I can't get a song. I can't just get a song. I could. I think. I think that would be fun, actually.
Monét X Change
Yeah. Honestly. Well, you know, I make my own music, too. And sometimes I see people, like, ask me about, like, samples and stuff. I'm like, bitch, you think I have money to play, to pay, to pay samples? Like, y' all music is fucking expensive. It costs a lot to make, to produce, create, and make it. We are not signed to labels. There's not no label paying or giving you an advance of a million dollars. I'm like, okay, create this. Like, no, you're spending your own, your whole. Your hard earned. All the money that y' all pay for the meet and greet that's going towards the album. Like, so.
Sapphira Cristal
Thank you.
Monét X Change
And who has money? Who has $10,000 to clear a sample?
Sapphira Cristal
No, you know, I wonder how much of a sample you can just get, though. You know what I mean?
Monét X Change
Like, oh, it's tough. I don't know. Like, sometimes I hear, like, a crazy. Like, I see a crazy TikTok or YouTube video, and I'm like, I would love to just take a little piece of this. But I'm like, how do you even. About, like, you know, asking, I guess.
Sapphira Cristal
You just reach out and say, hey, can I use this?
Monét X Change
Yeah.
Sapphira Cristal
And they'll be like, yeah, give me $5. But they'll be like, yeah, give me $5,000. And you'll be like, you know what? I'll take it. Because at the end of the day, am I going to create something that I truly enjoy? Honestly, music, we're making it for ourselves 100% and hoping that other people, you know, relate and enjoy it. And I hope that people enjoy this music. It's music that. It's everywhere. Honestly, this album is like, your gray rainbow is very R and B and, like, feels. And, baby, we touched that in this album, but we also touched some other places. We also, like, there's disco in there. There's, like a little sad song. Or is it sad? Who knows? It's kind of rocky. There's kind of some. There's a lot of disco in there, I would say. And I even have, like a line dance in there.
Monét X Change
Oh, she tapping into them country ass roots, y' all.
Sapphira Cristal
Baby. I literally was like, I need a line dance song. I need a song that my family will listen. And every time I go home, we can listen to it and, like, do the lion dance. And, you know, I'll teach it to you.
Monét X Change
Yeah, I would love to learn the lion dance.
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah. Maybe we'll put the video out for people.
Monét X Change
Yeah. Yeah. You know what? Let's do a little TikTok.
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah, let's do it for the kids, you know, teach them how to do something that they can hold on to.
Monét X Change
And honestly, bring back, like, you know, I don't want to mention this person. Cause they're a bad person. But, you know, we need to bring back some, like, step in the name of love. Not that song, but like, that.
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah, I mean, that's kind of. And this song is called get yout Flowers, and it's already out, so you can listen to get yout Flowers on Spotify or all streaming platforms. Get yout Flowers by Satira Kristal, but it's called get yout Flowers. And it's kind of that same, like, energy of, like, look, we need to give people their flowers while they're here, while they can appreciate it. While they can see and feel and know that everything that they're doing is truly being appreciated. Appreciate it.
Monét X Change
Yeah, girl. I was just talking about. Talking about this with someone the other day. Like, I would love to see, like, not love to see, like, that sound that sounds so morbid to say, but I'm interested to, like. Because my friend Dwan, I don't know if you've met him before, but he. He is a great singer. He's always. He always sings at people's funerals. He just got back from a funeral. He was telling me about it. I was like, he's telling me about, like, the experience of, like, how people were, like, really going through it. I was like, yeah, I want to, like. I wonder what people are going to be like in my funeral. Like, I want to, like. I wish I could, like, see the people. Are people going to be, like, going through it? Are people going to, like, I'm so curious, like, what's going to be happening at my funeral. Is that weird?
Sapphira Cristal
Well, I. I'll be there.
Monét X Change
The fact you think you. Everybody swear they're going to outlive me. Y' all don't understand. I'm like. I'm like Cher and cockroaches. I will be here after the apocalypse, okay?
Sapphira Cristal
And I'm going to be after that. I'm gonna. I'm. But I. I will have figured out how to make a deal with God that I am. I'm never gonna die.
Monét X Change
Never gonna die. You know that.
Sapphira Cristal
Also, I don't want to age after a certain point.
Monét X Change
Like, that's the thing, though, because I.
Sapphira Cristal
Feel like people are like, I never want to die. But, you know, there's two ways of never dying. You could do the vampire way, where you don't age as well, or you could do the I'm never gonna die, but I'm also gonna age and be decrepit. Like, who wants that?
Monét X Change
Nobody wants that. Yeah. I want to be the. But then. But if. When you. If you're a vampire, you just watch everyone die around you.
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah. But eventually you lose the feelings.
Monét X Change
That's what I. That's. That's. That's literally that. Girl, I agree.
Sapphira Cristal
I've already lost those, so we don't have to.
Monét X Change
After the first, like, couple of, like. Like, you know, the first couple of close ones, I'm like, all right, girl.
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah, my dad died. My. My best friend is gone. Like. Like, I. I think the next one that's going to hurt me, hurt me, hurt me is my grandmother or my mom. And then I. And then I think I'll be, no, I'm. Couldn't. I really love my family, so I'll be hurt for a very long time because I have a very large, large, large family.
Monét X Change
Do. Do y' all do family reunions?
Sapphira Cristal
We do not. I mean, we do. I don't go.
Monét X Change
Why?
Sapphira Cristal
Because, bitch, I've been working. I. Baby, if it weren't for just getting on Drag Race, now I can finally take time off of my life and, like, go and visit family and go and. And, like, see my. My nephew and my niece and my sister, my brother. And, like, all of a sudden, I can, like, have time. But before then, I was grinding, girl.
Monét X Change
I feel like, you know, I know a lot of you queens in other cities, y' all are working very hard, blah, blah, blah, blah. But I do feel there's a little bit different in, like, the Northeast Dr. Like, y' all. You understand? I did seven shows over six days.
Sapphira Cristal
And you had to pay, like, what, $95,000 in rent? Like.
Monét X Change
Like, that's. So taking time off to go on a thing. I'm like, that's. I'm missing a week. If I go for a week, I'm. I'm missing a week of shows.
Sapphira Cristal
Maybe you're gonna be homeless.
Monét X Change
Yeah. Each show is paying me $150, plus my tips. I'm like, I'm missing out on a lot of money just by going on a vacation or going to visit family. So I would often prioritize, work over anything else. I'm like, I need to make this coin.
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah. And I, I. I was like that, too. And I luckily have a family that understands.
Monét X Change
Yeah.
Sapphira Cristal
They're like, baby, I. We saw you when you were on the. Not on the streets, but when you didn't have a place to live.
Monét X Change
Yeah.
Sapphira Cristal
So I understand the grind that you're doing. Like, you can't. I. I'm finally in the place where I'm not living in. In, like, not fear, but, like, I'm not living in fear. I'm not living, like, just to make sure that I have a place to stay all the time. I will never go. Would she say, I'll never go hungry again.
Monét X Change
Who's that?
Sapphira Cristal
Or is that Scar? I was thinking, what's her name? From Gone with the Wind.
Monét X Change
Gone with the Wind. I ain't never seen Gone with the Wind.
Sapphira Cristal
Oh, well, at some point, some white lady says, I'll never go hungry again.
Monét X Change
Got it. That's an old.
Sapphira Cristal
Or I'll never be homeless. I don't know what she said. I never watched it either. But, like, I hear a lot of white people talk about it.
Monét X Change
Well, you know, I need. There's a lot of black films I need to watch. I've never seen Roots. I've never seen any of them.
Sapphira Cristal
I've never seen the full old Roots. I have seen, like, the new Roots. Cause, you know, they redid it.
Monét X Change
Right.
Sapphira Cristal
I saw that one. I didn't see the old.
Monét X Change
Is that one five hours due?
Sapphira Cristal
No.
Monét X Change
Yeah. The original one is, like, mad long.
Sapphira Cristal
It was a miniseries.
Monét X Change
A miniseries. Okay.
Sapphira Cristal
I know that people thought it was, like, a movie.
Monét X Change
Yeah, that was movies.
Sapphira Cristal
That was, like, one of the first miniseries. And so, like, we watch miniseries all the time now, but, like, back in the day, that wasn't a thing. And so they were like, roots is, like, seven hours long. And I was like, no, it's seven episodes long.
Monét X Change
Got it, got it, got it, got it. And it's a story of. It's a story of who? Because Amistad is about. Okay, but Amistad is about who, not Kha Kinte and Kunta Kente was a. Was a slave, obviously.
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah.
Monét X Change
But I don't know the full. I don't know the full. So, I mean, you know, I used to watch it okay. Was the new Roots good?
Sapphira Cristal
Was the new Roots good? I don't know that the old Roots was good. I think that it was just like a thing that people had never seen before on television. You know, they had seen. What's that show. What's that movie called? Where. Oh, the. With the Ku Klux Klan were saving.
Monét X Change
Birth of a Nation.
Sapphira Cristal
Birth of a Nation that had been out and like, people had seen all sorts of things like that, but. And that was, like, way, you know, earlier, like, I think 30s or 40s.
Monét X Change
Yeah.
Sapphira Cristal
But like, it wasn't until, like, Roots, where people start to actually see on television and really understand what black people really went through back in the day. Because they were doing a lot of re. Education.
Monét X Change
Yeah.
Sapphira Cristal
And so, like, as much as we talk about, like, how people are trying to re. Educate children now, they really had already done that.
Monét X Change
Yeah.
Sapphira Cristal
Like, yeah. They. Lots of people didn't. Are like, well, you know, it wasn't that bad for them. They. They were being fed. It was free. I mean, honestly, they didn't even have to. They. They got free food. They had a free home or roof over their head.
Monét X Change
Yeah.
Sapphira Cristal
And all they had to do was work for a little bit. It was like, nah, baby.
Monét X Change
They had, bro. That's what. This guy. This guy on TikTok. I watched this video that I reposted it. He was like. Cause it was this clip of this kid being like, y' all bring. Bring back segregation. Like, I don't want to go eat at Meemaw and Papa's nasty ass restaurant where they don't season their chicken anyway. And then he stitches it. He's like, y' all, hey, can I impress upon you how horrible segregation was for black people? He was like, and there are people.
Sapphira Cristal
Alive today who remember it.
Monét X Change
Yeah. Yes. He was like. He was like, I cannot tell you how ignorant and how silly that comment is to say, let's just go back to segregation. Like, you don't understand what you did not have as a human being when it was segregation. I was like, you think you just couldn't go to a restaurant? No. You couldn't have health care? You couldn't call the cops. You could deal with. You. You could not do anything. You didn't have anything at your disposal. And then he was like. He was like. He was like. He was like. He's like, it's so crazy. Like, Gen Zers. They can't imagine how bad segregation was. Kind of how, like, a lot of white people can't today, descendants of white slave owners can't Imagine how bad slavery was. Or even honestly black. Like, yes, we can't imagine how bad it was. You know what I mean? Because we.
Sapphira Cristal
Not at all.
Monét X Change
Yeah. So he was like, I cannot impress upon you how horrible segregation would be for you as a person. It's not just about.
Sapphira Cristal
Honestly, like, these people are just talking out of their butts.
Monét X Change
Yeah. It's crazy.
Sapphira Cristal
That's the thing about social media nowadays, that I really try to get into it, but I really also. It gets me in the head so hard that I'm just like, ooh. I don't want to be one of those people who's like, you stupid. Stop being stupid.
Monét X Change
You know what I mean?
Sapphira Cristal
Like, I don't want that to be my reactions to everything that people are saying. But, like, if you can't get. If you can't understand the reason why. Why we even have gotten rid of things like segregation. Go sit down. Just sit down. Don't talk about it. We don't need to hear your. Your hot take because your hot take is lukewarm, honey. It is not hot. Ain't nobody trying to eat that take, baby.
Monét X Change
You take is frigid cold at best, baby. Like, yeah, it's crazy saying, let's just bring back segregation, girl. No, let's.
Sapphira Cristal
And for me, I feel like if people understood that, it would be so much worse for them. Like, and it ain't great for them now. Yeah, you think you got it good. You don't.
Monét X Change
You don't.
Sapphira Cristal
You still don't even got it good.
Monét X Change
Yeah, it is better, but it's not good.
Sapphira Cristal
You know, people still follow you around.
Monét X Change
Yeah.
Sapphira Cristal
When you walk into a building and you have a problem with it. So if you have a problem with it now, what do you think would happen if legally we were segregated? Like, how do you think you. So, yeah, when people say stupid stuff like that, I'm just like, girl, go sit down. Sit down somewhere. Don't make me go get my belt.
Monét X Change
Have you ever given any of your drag kids whoopings?
Sapphira Cristal
No, because. Because legally, I can't fight. My dad's a trainer for the ufc, and I did train as a child. So legally, if I fight somebody, it is assault with a deadly weapon.
Monét X Change
Your hands is weapon, baby.
Sapphira Cristal
I just try not to. You know, I've had kids who stole from me.
Monét X Change
Drag kids that stole from you?
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah.
Monét X Change
What did they steal?
Sapphira Cristal
Money.
Monét X Change
Oh, wow.
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah, money, like, stole out of my. Like, this was before I got a safe. I used to just, like, keep my cash in. In a drawer in my room, straight up Stole money from me. $400. At the time, the $400 was a lot of money for me.
Monét X Change
Absolutely. $400. Still a lot of. A lot of, like, what? But you know what I can do with $400? $400, girl, come on now.
Sapphira Cristal
I could have. I was paying my rent. I. I could have gotten a new wig. Now, $400 will get you one wig. But back in the day, it could have gotten you a couple. You can get a few pairs of shoes. You could pay, you know, you could pay your cable bill, your phone bill, and your light bill with that.
Monét X Change
With $400. Bitch. I don't know what it is. I don't know what the grid is, but, bitch, my electricity bill be coming out. I've been like, how. How it is. Two of us living here. Like, that's what that shit. That's when I think about, oh, my God. People with, like, kids and stuff like that. Like, how. You know, and you know, I'm very privileged to live the kind of life I live, right? I've been on tv, I work, you know, like, you know, I have money at my disposal to do the things I need to do. But people who are also.
Sapphira Cristal
I've heard. Yes.
Monét X Change
Yeah. People who are out here. Wait, what? So I've heard people who are out here with kids and like, how. Who had to, like, you know, their mother, you know, who's old now, so they live with them. How are people living with, like, the crazy. My boyfriend, we went out to get this is this new little mom and pop chicken shop that popped up over here. We're like, oh, no, let's try it. Let's like, you know, support local restaurants. Go out to this place. Bitch. For one chicken sandwich, it was $16 plus. To get fries was another $7. I. I'm like, so for just a chicken sandwich and french fries per meal, we're paying $23. That is a 56. That is a $46 meal for two. Like. Like, what are we doing?
Sapphira Cristal
Well, people with children and even parents who live at their house are doing this thing called cooking at home.
Monét X Change
I don't know if you've ever heard of it.
Sapphira Cristal
Now what you do is you go out and you get the food. Now, the food is actually not that expensive when you get the grocery store.
Monét X Change
That's not true. I just bought a carton of eggs for $12.
Sapphira Cristal
Well, you also got the organic super brown.
Monét X Change
I did get the organic free, so I get the organic free range pasture raised eggs.
Sapphira Cristal
Yes, yes, yes.
Monét X Change
But, you know, you go get the white eggs.
Sapphira Cristal
They still $2.
Monét X Change
That's not true. No, the white eggs are, are $8.99.
Sapphira Cristal
I, I clock that maybe, maybe here in LA, but.
Monét X Change
But.
Sapphira Cristal
Where everybody else don't have this much money. It don't cost that much.
Monét X Change
So if you do have a kid and a family like you want, occasionally you do want to go out and treat your kid like your kids shouldn't be relegated to only eat. Like you should be able to treat your kids and you shouldn't have to be spending. Let's say we're a family of four. That's a hundred to get. Just get a takeout meal. But coming back home to eat, not a family of four is spending $100 to have a nice little special meal.
Sapphira Cristal
Well, it depends on what it is because, like me personally, I don't like eating everybody's food because I started to realize that if I cook it at home, it's gonna be way better than if I go to this random restaurant that I've never been before. And if I go to a restaurant that I know that I like, then okay, yes, this is gonna be good. But baby, can't nobody cook no more. Ain't nobody.
Monét X Change
People are just, oh, God, that's got you in Philly. Philly has horrible restaurants. No shade the rest.
Sapphira Cristal
No, no, no, hold on.
Monét X Change
Philly has horrible restaurants.
Sapphira Cristal
I'm gonna have to take you around.
Monét X Change
I never had a good, A good meal at a Philly restaurant. I'll tell you that before much.
Sapphira Cristal
Oh, well, your people be taking you to different places.
Monét X Change
Cuz let me tell you, LA has some good food. Last night at the.
Sapphira Cristal
It does. It does.
Monét X Change
At the Glad Community Builders Dinner, we at a restaurant. We. It was for. At Lavo in la, that food was so good. I was like, thank y' all for inviting me. I want. I, I wish, I wish I would.
Have brought a little.
A little to go. To go box to take some food, huh?
Sapphira Cristal
Baby, you always got to bring you a Tupperware. You don't bring a Tupperware everywhere you go.
Monét X Change
No, I should have though. I will from now on.
Sapphira Cristal
Now on, you have to bring a Tupperware. That's why. That's how I know you from Brooklyn and not from the South. Cause, baby, we bring a Tupperware everywhere.
Monét X Change
Yeah, girl, that, that, that food was really good. La. Girl, I gotta take you out. LA got some. I'm gonna take you out some good restaurants.
Sapphira Cristal
I love the food in la. I mean, not all of it. I've had some disappointing meals here. But I've also had some really good meals here. But the difference is it is expensive.
Monét X Change
It is expensive.
Sapphira Cristal
It's expensive boots. But, you know, it's sometimes worth it. Some of it. Sometimes I like, spend a lot of money and I, you know, I just got my taxes and I was like, oh, Oh. I eat a lot out, girl. Same like traveling. We eat out all the time.
Monét X Change
Uber Eats is crazy.
Sapphira Cristal
Uber Eats is crazy. And thank God I'm not home. So I can write it off, but like, it's insane. I can't. And so I try and get like a residence inn or an Airbnb wherever I go so I can cook when I get there.
Monét X Change
Because you cook when you go away for a gig.
Sapphira Cristal
Yes.
Monét X Change
You go to work.
Sapphira Cristal
It brings me peace.
Monét X Change
Got it. But then now, but then now your whole hotel room is smelling like your meal. So then, so then when the trey come over, they're like, what you.
Sapphira Cristal
My meal smell good? When the trey come over, they be like, what you cook? You can have it after.
Monét X Change
Well, you know, also, you know, hotels don't have microwaves anymore.
Sapphira Cristal
Mine does.
Monét X Change
What do you do? Extended stays? Well, like regular hotels, you know.
Sapphira Cristal
Cause, okay, I'm in a courtyard today and it's Marriott. They tend to try and keep a microwave in there.
Monét X Change
Well, here. Okay. What do you splurge on the road? Okay, things that I have two things that I would splurge on on the road that I don't cut corners about will be my hotel. Like, I will have shitty transportation. Whatever. A hotel is important to me because a hotel would dictate my entire mood for the entire thing. If I'm at, like, am I gonna wake up? Yeah, I will not wanna wake up. If I'm, if I'm in a bed, I'm seeing like little head hair follicles under the bed. Or I see A, I can't. So I will splurge on a nice hotel. Cause I need to feel happy about where I'm showering and sleeping.
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah, yeah. I, I, I enjoy a good hotel. I enjoy good air. And B, and B, lately I've even started like being like, hey, I just need to get an Airbnb. It's sometimes cheaper than the hotel number one. Number two, you can get one that has a good tub. Because me, I need to soak this body. I move too much and I don't know why I keep doing it. I just keep going. It's just I'm used to it now, but I'm not losing any weight. So as we said, I'm giving birth to a bbl. So if anyone sees my belly, they'd be like, it's like, don't worry, It'll be a fat ass soon. But because of that, it's like my. My body's all out of whack. My. My spine. People look at old videos of me, and they don't even recognize.
Monét X Change
That's all right. Y' all don't need to recognize it. Just know me now.
Sapphira Cristal
Know me now. But, like, it's like, it hurts my back, so I usually try and get something with a tub. I like to get something with a nice bed. I've gotten some Airbnbs where they thought the bed was, like, nice. And technically, for somebody else, it would be nice, but for me, I need, like, a little bit of firmness to the bed. And sometimes it's. If I get in the bed and I just go. I'm like, if I can't bounce off the bed. You know what I mean?
Monét X Change
Are you like a bouncy, soft bed?
Sapphira Cristal
I like reasons to bounce if you know it.
Monét X Change
Got it. Well, for me, I used to be into Airbnbs until, you know, someone pointed out and be like, you know, at least with a hotel room, you know that. Enos, a new person, whatever. But if it's an Airbnb, what if they got cameras in there looking at you? You would never know.
Sapphira Cristal
Maybe I'm giving them a show.
Monét X Change
You would never know. So that's why. So now I'm freaked out about Airbnbs.
Sapphira Cristal
Now you don't know nothing about no hotels if they have cameras or not.
Monét X Change
But it's a different rotation. Who gonna put the cameras in. Airbnb is somebody's house.
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah, but what I'm saying is, like, people work at hotels, and they work at them for years, so they could feasibly. If they. A creep is a creep. It doesn't matter if the creep is in the Airbnb or if it's a hotel. They gonna creep.
Monét X Change
You know a trick about hotels when we had sound cake and we stayed at that. The art house, and they stole my jewelry. I would never. I will never.
Sapphira Cristal
You stayed there? I didn't stay there.
Monét X Change
Yeah, where did you stay?
Sapphira Cristal
I don't remember. Somewhere else, girl.
Monét X Change
They stole.
Sapphira Cristal
They didn't steal my jewelry, I'll tell you that.
Monét X Change
All my jewelry. I was never.
Sapphira Cristal
When you told me that, I was like.
Monét X Change
I was. It was the saddest day of my life, which I was like, you know what? It's a material thing. It is what it is. Move on. Girl.
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah, but that's. That's stupid. That's sad.
Monét X Change
Yeah.
Sapphira Cristal
Why would people do that?
Monét X Change
Because they suck. Humans are horrible. Humans are really bad people. Humans are bad people.
Sapphira Cristal
Humans are bad. Who's good people?
Monét X Change
Tag yourself on People People. Sapphira.
Sapphira Cristal
And I'm not human, so there we go.
Monét X Change
This was so great having you on the show. Okay, y' all, comment below. Petition to have Sapphira Monthly to be sibling adoree as opposed to the rival with the other bitch. Big old Bob on the drag queen.
Sapphira Cristal
Big old Bob. I love that. I miss Bob. I haven't seen Bob in forever.
Monét X Change
I know. I miss her, too.
Sapphira Cristal
She's out in the world with a book and shit.
Monét X Change
I know. Harriet Tubman live in concert. So good. And now officially, she's a New York Times bestseller. Congratulations, Bob.
Sapphira Cristal
Congratulations.
Monét X Change
Yes.
Sapphira Cristal
My new album, the Crystal Ball, I know you heard it a lot. I've had a show called the Cristal Ball and now I have an album called the Cristal Ball. We love. And, you know, it is just a glimpse into the mind that is Sapphira, Cristal, which is very sporadic. It goes everywhere.
Monét X Change
I love that.
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah, the music is great. It's all sorts of. It's really feel good music. You will dance. You can. There's inspiration in there for your soul, for your heart, for your mind. Because I think that, like, there's a lot of music about, like, this person broke up with me and not that. That's not bad. It's great music, Monet. It's great music. I love your music, but I wanted to do some music that is just like, I really am happy to be me. I really love me. I love you. We're a happy family. No, that's not how Barney goes. But it is one of those. It's just basically a good. A feeling good movie. And then my song vibing is the focus track of this whole album. And it's. It's a vibe, I'll tell you that. And just remember that you can just be you and enjoy yourself and enjoy your life. Especially in this time, right now, when things are just wild. You don't know what's happening. You don't have to let every single thing influence your heart and influence your mind. Just be wild. Yeah.
Monét X Change
And you know, if you're vibing and feeling sad about someone working hard, that's okay, too. That's right. All feelings are valid.
Sapphira Cristal
Oh, that's what I said. That's what I said, Monet. I said, I love your music and I love your feelings. I have actually. I'm actually writing a bunch of feeling songs now. Now that I'm done. Yeah.
Monét X Change
Yeah, y' all, this was Sapphira. Cristal. Make sure you check out her album and we'll see her next time on the Pod or something. I'm sure some Somewhere way before that popping up.
Sapphira Cristal
Yeah.
Monét X Change
All right, y' all. Peace.
Sapphira Cristal
Good to see y' all. Bye.
