Not how good do I look? Cause, like, I always look good, but, like, how good does the makeup and stuff? And I mean, I went through many different phases, and they were all like, I guess, good at the time. Cause I've been doing drag for like 15 years. So makeup has evolved. And over time, you continue to evolve with your makeup. And same with you, honestly, like, you know, you just continued to. I mean, how long did it take you to find, like, the Monet face.

You know, I feel like it's. It's always changing, always evolving. I think the one that I, I, I, I. I settled on, and I was like, okay. I was like, I finally feel beautiful. I want to say that was like, maybe, like, I started in 2012. About, like, four years in. I was. No, that's not true. Yeah, about three. About three and a half. Three and a half. I was like, you know what? I like her. I like what she's doing. She's pretty. And our producer Jacob just sent me a video of Sapphira, Cristal from 2010. Sapphira at the Machine nightclub.

That was when I first moved to fucking Boston, too, bitch.

Not today, but in life. I've been sober for six years, but, like, the memories are jumbled up in this frame. I did a thing called Friends of Dorothy, and it was three different styles of Dorothy, and I was Diana Ross. And we had, like, three Diana Rosses. And one of them was Milan. It was me and this girl named Cece Salcedo. Salazon. You might know CeCe from New York if you saw her. You probably know her. I'm a trans girl actress. And so we all did three different Dorothys. I did Dorothy. Oh, actually, we did two Dorothys. We did Dorothy from the Wiz, and then we all three did different Diana Rosses as well. Got it. And it was just so wonderful to, like, spend all this time with her and get to know her. Cause she's such a chill, calming spirit. I really enjoy Milan.

Yeah, Milan's great. Very sweet, very lovely. I just feel like after season four, after her season of Drag Race, I had just seen her, like, around town in New York City, and I was just. You know, she came across so sweet and so kind on Drag Race, and she really is like that in real life. She really is a very kind, genuine, sweet person.

So I love her and super talented. Cause she said, I don't want to do this no more. I'm gonna go do Broadway. Thank you.

It's my Broadway. I had dreams of being on Broadway, like, because, you know, I was in these classical, operatic streets since, like, high school. Like, that's when I was in that ensemble and we did a lot of, like, classical work and stuff. So I've always loved classic music. And then, you know, there is a thing of opera where they make you feel like Broadway and like, musical theater is still like, oh, you doing that. You're putting their nose up at mt. Did you agree? No.

Well, yes and no. Because I went to performing arts high school in Houston, hspva. And though I was in the. I did a lot of the classical stuff, but I was always in the musicals. We always had, like a. All school musical. We always had, like, a black history musical. And I always. Really, honey? Yes.

And what's a black history musical? Like, y' all would do, like what?

[Sapphira Cristal]

It depends. Before I got there, there was a writer who would write a new musical for every year. Oh, that would be a different black history musical. But then when I got there, they had a different director come in. And so the first year we did oh, the Gospel at Colonists, which was a Broadway show that Morgan Freeman was in, and the Five Blythein Boys of Alabama. It was about Oedipus. Oedipus Rex at Colonus when he died. But it was all gospel music. It was. So look up a Gospel at Colonists. The music is so wonderful. The Gospel at Colonists. And baby, let me tell you something about Houston singers. They sang that you would swear. This was a professional. A professional theater. The way we did that Show.

Yeah, it's a really great show. And then the second year, I think we did. They started. I think we. No, the second year. I forget what we did the second year. The third year we did a show called. What was the show called? It was August Wilson A tribute. It was a tribute to August Wilson. And I played 11 roles.

In one show.

That's crazy.

Yes, it was quite crazy. I was in the piano. In the piano. The piano lesson. I did like six or seven solos, but I had to change for every single one. No, ma' am. Oh, the second year we did Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope.

I have never heard of any. These must be some.

[Sapphira Cristal]

Their musicals from the 70s when, like, black musicals were, like, popping up all the time. Those are true musicals from Broadway. Yeah. Like, I really enjoyed my. My upbringing because, like, as much as I really, truly don't really like musical theater that much, and I think what I don't like and, you know, people can get. Get on me about it or not, I just don't like it. It's not my thing. It doesn't mean I won't listen to. It doesn't mean I won't watch it. It just means that, like, if given the option, what do you want to do? It won't be, go see a musical.

Go see a musical. Got you.

Yeah, but I've enjoyed a lot of the ones that I've seen, so. But, yeah, those are the two shows. And then we did, like, a couple shows that were, like, created by the director. And so it was, like, a lot of different music and a lot of different things. And because I was, I guess, so talented, he was like, you're gonna do these. Oh, I think I was nine roles. It wasn't 11.

It was nine roles is still crazy bitch.

[Sapphira Cristal]

It was my 11th. It was my 11th grade year, but I did nine roles. And I remember one time I got off stage, ran off stage, ran around. This is how I learned quick changes for drag, too. Ran off stage. They gave me my outfit as I was running off stage. Cause I had to change while I was running to the front of the house. And then I came through the front of the house in a completely different outfit, singing a whole different song from a different scene work and then singing down and walking down the aisle. It was. It was fun.

Okay, now, so then. So in high school, were you doing. Were you doing a. Singing as a baritone or were you singing in your upper register?

[Sapphira Cristal]

I was baritone. Baritone. Okay. Yeah. I mean, I would do soprano stuff, but like, as a. Like, fun stuff with me and some of my friends who also had sopranos. So, like, me and my friend Josh, we would, like, he would sing Akish Fus, and I would sing the Queen of the Night aria because I had the night notes and he had.

You could sing the full aria with all the notes maybe.

Sure. Could all the Fs and everything work? Not no MO. But I could.

[Monét X Change]

We all don't know. The Queen and I Aria is a famous one. Y' all have all heard it. I wish I could never. I mean, I do have a good. As a bass baritone. Whatever you want to call. I don't even know what I am these days, huh?

You're a bass baritone.

My voice got it higher, though, in. In college, I was first bass. Yeah, I was like. Yeah, I had a contra octave C. Now I only have, like, an E on, like, a good day regular.

I'm like, you speak so high, and you're singing all the music. It's just the way that you've.

Yeah, that's so sad. Do you think I can go back down?

Do you want. I mean, as you get older, it'll get deeper, right? That's gonna happen.

Well, you know, I always come back. Thank God you're here. I always find it so interesting. And I think as, you know, as someone who's studied V and stuff in school, you get this too. Like, you know, people come for Mariah Carey because she can't sing like she used to, right? And like I, you know, and they're.

Did she not sing how she used to?

Have you, have you, have you heard I've seen Mariah at a concert recently or heard her at a concert?

I mean, she can still sing.

Why would you expect her to sing the same way she sang when she was 20 something, right?

Exactly. But I will say there are singers who can do that. Look at Chaka Khan.

Chaka chan cannot sing the exact same way girl.

She can sing really well and her voice is really great, but it's gotten deeper and.

I mean, that's why they retire. I mean, think about Leontine Price. Leontine Price was on opera for a while and then she just, then she did her final Aida and said, I'm done with the.

What age was the final Aida?

I can find out. Okay. I think it was like, I think she was in her 50s, maybe 60s. And then she did another 20 years of recital, like she was. She did not have recitals and concerts. So just cause you're not on the stage anymore doesn't mean you can't sing anymore. And so she then kept being herself and still being able to do some things that you're like, that voice should not be able to do that.

That's what I'm saying. Because I think that. Because I think that Leontine is someone who took care of her instrument her entire life. Yeah, like she took care of that thing. That's why she was in her 57. 57. That's why she was in her 70s. Still sounding fucking incredible.

Well, Leontine is a. Is A is my favorite story is when Renee Fleming got invited. Leontine invited Renee Fleming to her house.

I would send them melodies, they would send me tracks, and then I would send them something back on top of that, too. And so that's how we would just go back and forth. And that kind of has been working for me for a while because I have to have my hands in it. You know what I mean? I can't get a song. I can't just get a song. I could. I think. I think that would be fun, actually.

Yeah. Honestly. Well, you know, I make my own music, too. And sometimes I see people, like, ask me about, like, samples and stuff. But coming back home to eat, not a family of four is spending $100 to have a nice little special meal.

Well, it depends on what it is because, like me personally, I don't like eating everybody's food because I started to realize that if I cook it at home, it's gonna be way better than if I go to this random restaurant that I've never been before. Yeah, I will not wanna wake up. If I'm, if I'm in a bed, I'm seeing like little head hair follicles under the bed. Or I see A, I can't. So I will splurge on a nice hotel. Cause I need to feel happy about where I'm showering and sleeping.

Yeah, yeah. I, I, I enjoy a good hotel. I enjoy good air. And B, and B, lately I've even started like being like, hey, I just need to get an Airbnb. It's sometimes cheaper than the hotel number one. Number two, you can get one that has a good tub. Because me, I need to soak this body. I move too much and I don't know why I keep doing it. I just keep going. It's just I'm used to it now, but I'm not losing any weight. So as we said, I'm giving birth to a bbl. So if anyone sees my belly, they'd be like, it's like, don't worry, It'll be a fat ass soon.
