You're listening to the Simple Pen Podcast Pinterest for business advice that goes down smooth and easy. Here's your host, Kate All. Hey there and welcome back to another episode of the Simple Pen Podcast. I am your host Kate all and I love a good start to the new year. Like it is possibly one of my most favorite things. Why? Because not only do we get to talk about all these things that will trend, but we also get to talk about New Year's resolutions, which I'm not a fan of resolutions. I am a big fan of just goals. I read the book Atomic Habits by James Clear and it is forever revolutionized my life and so I just love the fresh start of the new year. And Pinterest is no exception. Every year they put out this thing called Pinterest Predicts and it's the trends they expect to grow. This year they look at data from the previous year and they look at what all the experts are saying and they make predictions about what Pinners will be searching on the platform. In 2023 there was a 50% increase in click through rates on pins related to Pinterest Predict and these forecasted trends are said to last 20% longer than fads that show up on other platforms. What that means is that if you are pinning something or creating content or you have a product around this particular trend, it will get more lift for longer than it will be just a viral sensation which tends to be an up and then a down. So I want to talk about the predictions. I'm going to highlight three of the ones that I think are really fascinating and interesting, but there are a total of 20. I'm going to put the link down in the show notes for you to go look at those because it is really, really important. I'm going to show you how to leverage these predictions, these trends so that you can use them in your content to get more traffic from Pinterest. A few things. First one, make sure you are subscribed to the podcast on your favorite podcast player and on YouTube here because we're going to be doing a lot of great things on YouTube throughout the year. So don't make sure you don't miss out on that. Also, I want to invite you to our very first Pinterest marketing webinar of 2025. That's right. On January 16th at 10:00am Pacific 1:00pm Eastern, I'm going to dive into three mistakes I see people making on Pinterest and how to fix them. It is totally free, it is a jam packed hour and yes we'll have a replay, but you still need to sign up to get that replay. We would love for you to join us live. If you go to simplepinmedia.com class, which I will link below, then you can get signed up January 16th. Don't miss out. We are going to dive into all of those things. All right. Pinterest predicts again there is a link to all of them below. It is very, very fascinating. So here's how they are all broken down. There is the main topic that's usually a really, really fun name. Then a description of what the trending topic is. This is followed by keywords that are trending the percentage of growth and last they share their board where they have curated all these items for your inspiration. It is a mix of content, it is a mix of products. It so it's a really helpful tool that they've created for marketers to use to get in front of these trends. So I want to start with three examples of trends in 2025 and then I'm going to walk you through what would be really helpful to do and what I would do if I was a content creator and a product seller wanting to target for these topics. First up, aura beauty. Now this is the title that they're giving it and then they give it a description. Here's Pinterest description. It is the makeup mood ring. Bold cohesive color to highlight your vibe. Pinterest says 2025 will be the year of the makeup mood ring. Gen Z and Boomers are driving this high hue look that's all about honing in on color esthetic and flaunting it from chin to cheek. Find your aura, wear it confidently and consider yourself dipped in vibes all day long. Did you catch that? Pinterest has been saying forever. Gen Z is our fastest growing demographic. We are targeting Gen Z. They included boomers in here. Boomers, that is my parents. I am a Gen Xer. So what they are saying is these two opposite ends of the generational spectrum are really going to be into this high hue trend, the aura beauty. So here are some keywords that are standing out with aura beauty and why I want to highlight these is that in Pinterest predicts what they will do is they will give you these six or so keywords, five or so keywords and next to it there will be a percentage and the percentage is the percentage of gray growth that they've seen already in this trend. So one is new wave makeup has had a 410% growth already. Full color makeup eyes has had 365% growth. Golden aura is 75%, aura effect is 35%, and purple blush makeup is 30%. So we take and we look at these particular keywords and we think, okay, if you are in any type of makeup content, whether you sell makeup or whether you sell the look, or whether you do videos or you sell Amazon products, whatever it is you want to take, and use some of these tools, these keywords, to create content. So let's take something like full color makeup eyes. You could easily do a video about that. You could easily do a Pinterest board around that and then put everything with that keyword, full color makeup eyes, into that particular board. Now, if you're only going to do, let's say, like one piece of content, you're only going to do one video, you're only going to do one blog post, then I wouldn't recommend you create a board. I would recommend you put it under another kind of umbrella board. But if you're going to go deep on this, it is going to pay off big for you. We actually had a client just recently leverage one of the trends in Pinterest predicts, and within two to three months, she had already seen over 25,000 saves on that particular pin. Just because she grabbed a topic, she wrote a blog post, she made sure that her image was aligned with the look, the keywords. It was all in this really great, cool content pillar, and she ended up having a great result. So when you look at these Pinterest predicts, make notes. In fact, here's a good use case. Click on the link below in the description, go to Pinterest Predicts and look first for what niche you're in. If you're in the food space, if you are in the makeup space, if you're in the fashion space, start there and look at one, the keywords that they've listed. And then two, go to the actual board where Pinterest has pinned all of their pins and start to make a list of ideas. I bet within 30 minutes you can come up with at least 10 pieces of content that you can create. So here's a second topic I grabbed with another nod to Boomers. I'm actually super surprised by this, just because Pinterest has been so Gen Z focused that they kind of have forgotten all the other generations. But it appears with Pinterest predicts, they have not forgotten. So this one, and actually I heard about this in another 2025 predictions podcast, it was completely unrelated to Pinterest, just predictions overall and it's moto boho, edgy street style with chunky leather accessories and a bit a front French. So Pinterest said the long hippie aesthetic mo moto boho has entered the chat in 2025, Gen Z and boomers will take to the streets with chunky leather handbags, flowy skirts, moto boots and just enough fringe. It's not just a look, it's a lifestyle. This was really interesting. Their boho fits had a 755% increase for that keyword. And then moto boots outfit was 445%. I think one thing to call out about this trend is the colors being used in the images. It's a lot of gray, black, cream. And those images don't have much text since it's fashion. But that doesn't mean you can't leverage text on an image. So an example might be if you were going to rewrite a blog post about five moto boots for spring because that term is at a 445% increase, it's worth using on your image. However, when it comes to text or no text specifically with fashion, it does make sense to do some without and some with. I like using text overlay on images when it's more of a roundup type in this, this particular genre. The last one that I picked had to do with travel. We have seen a tremendous growth for travel creators this last year and as it feels like the world has finally opened up after the pandemic almost five years later. I spoke at a travel conference back in July in Puerto Rico and I was amazed at how much these travel creators are growing. And a lot of them are wanting to get into using Pinterest more instead of being solely reliant on Instagram or TikTok or things that feel very, I guess, precarious and loose and you just never know when it's going to go away. So moving to Pinterest if you are in the travel space is a very smart diversification move. So the term they've used for this is peak travel, vacating to high elevation destinations with perfect peak views. So cities have totally peaked. In 2025, mountain ranges will become the go to travel destination. As Gen Z and Gen X love that they're calling out my generation. Seek out treetop views, that fresh mountain air, and that fresh mountain air. Gear up for your next elevation. So they're taking it, doing a spin on travel. It's not just this broad term of travel, but they're really saying that people are going to Go skiing. They're going to go to the Dolomites, they are going to Atlas Mountains in Morocco, Portillo, Chile. Skiing fits. These are all keywords that they think people are already using and that is going to trend. This is especially important since I'm recording this in January. You're listening to this in January. There's still a lot of time for skiing left well into April. And then I've been having friend friends who have already planned a trip to Dolomites in Italy for this late June. So if you're a travel content creator, make sure you're highlighting these locations listed, especially if you have old content. So think about this, if you are a travel creator, that maybe you started doing travel work well before the pandemic and you've previously been to some of these locations that are listed. Pull it back out of the archives, dust it off, use those images, tell your story. I think you want to make sure that you are highlighting these, I guess, trip details. Thinking of the word right now. But when I go to search for something, I want to know tips. I want to know your experience. I don't want to just know the high level, but I want to know, where'd you go? How did you get around? What were your Airbnb situations? What was the food like? Give me all of it. And when people plan their trips on Pinterest, they create these boards and they put everything in it. I have used Pinterest to plan trips to Portugal, my Christmas market trips that I took this last December. There is a lot that people are using Pinterest for when it comes to travel. Now, travel's an interesting one, too, because when it comes to images, when you look at Pinterest board, it is going to be void of text overlay. This is very typical. When Pinterest creates a board, they never have any text. It's like that is their aesthetic, their branding. The only time you'll see text is when they're highlighting a Pinterest ad in a case study. But when it comes to pinning other things, there's no text. Which leads people to ask, well, should I use text similar to what I talked about in the last section about Moto Boho? You use text overlay for two reasons. One, you give context, and two, you use it for the algorithm to be able to read what's on the image. Travel's an interesting one because you can get people who save things because it's a beautiful photography. But you're not just wanting people to save, you're also wanting them to click an example that I use in some of my trainings is like a beach. You can say West Coast Edition. Best beaches West Coast Edition. If there was not that text overlay, there are so many different ways I could view this particular image. So just know that when you go visit these boards that Pinterest is highlighting, you will very rarely if ever find text overlay outside of a Pinterest ad. So always use text overlay, especially on an image that can be construed a hundred different ways, especially in travel. Okay, that's it. Make sure you check out the full list of the 20 Pinterest predictions and find where your brand aligns with those keywords. Like I said earlier, if you are dried up on content ideas, if you feel like it's really difficult for you to figure out a way to drum up some creativity, let this do it for you. Go through, take 30 minutes and write down all the ideas that you have. Don't edit yourself. Don't think of the how, think of the what. Just go through it and get some great ideas. And don't forget to sign up for our webinar. In a few weeks. You can go to simplepinmedia.com class to get access to that, especially if you feel like you're one of those people that you are just spinning out of control when it comes to Pinterest marketing. You don't know what you're doing and you need a guide. Alrighty. Thanks so much for listening to the podcast. Don't forget to subscribe to not miss any podcasts or videos in 2020.
