Leave it all behind. I'm about to lose it now, you guys. I literally thought I was actually gonna lose it, but I'm here. Back with another episode. It's so funny because if you've been listening or following me, I started another podcast with my friend Mary, and we're talking all about, like, raves and dance and music and all that kind of stuff. Like my other personality, my alter ego, which is iconic disco queen, if you're wondering, I'm Casey Boone, skincare. Or I'm my iconic disco queen, Casey. Casey's all of them. But anyhow, I was. We've been recording and I've been doing the audio. And it's so funny because I've been recording and editing podcast audio since 2018. I think maybe it was 2019. A long time. A long time. Like, it's always, like, whenever podcast I was in, it's always been my sole responsibility. And so we've been having so many issues with the audio. Now this is my first time. Like, we're recording in, like, different cities. Like, I'm in la, she's in Vegas. And of course last week I didn't check and I recorded with like a mic that was like, not even working. But anyhow, so I was testing out this mic and then I was like, you know what, I should just record an episode for you guys because I want to do like a little check in, see how you're doing, give you some updates. But with, you know, my other podcast and, like, I'm just like exploring, like, all the different, like, these different creative, like, avenues, like me playing music and DJing and singing and writing music and all this good stuff, I started to. It's. I started to remember, like, my young Casey Esthetician self, like, before I was even Casey Boone, that's my married name. But when I was Casey Hirsch, and I was, like, just getting started as an esthetician, and I had all these big dreams to, like, own a spa and do all the things, and I did it, which, you know, so, so cool. Like, good job and. But I was remembering, because I feel like I'm back at the beginning with this, like, music creativity said, like, I'm dancing and all this stuff and remembering that I have always been willing to put things out there before they're perfect and really before I'm even fully ready. And, you know, it's like. You know when you have, like, you see interviews and they're like, what's your, like, number one tip for, like, a business owner or for number one tip for, like, success? And, like, honestly, not me tooting my own horn or from, like, an egotistical standpoint, but, like, I have always just been willing to put myself out there regardless of, well, without it being perfect. Because, okay, number one, you can never actually be perfect. That's, like, an unachievable thing. So, like, let's just remove the perfectionism. Let's remove the fear. Let's remove judgment. I've personally been, like, moving through a lot of old fear and judgment, and I think that's why I'm able to kind of, like, put myself out there in this, like, new way with, like, the music. And again, remembering, like, how I started, which was, like, I started a business probably before I was actually ready. I was, like, seeing clients before I was, like, fully ready. I was. Do you know what I mean? Like, I put a website out there before I was really ready. I started posting on social media before I was ready. Because what is ready? Like, you could strive and strive and strive and work and work and work and get every tiny little thing perfect, perfect, perfect. But again, like, what is perfect? We all have our own perception of what that is. And what if you just, like, put it out there? Because at some point you're going to have to start. And I've seen so many people in my life, friends, colleagues, family, just people, other estheticians that hold themselves back because they're waiting for that, like, aha moment that, like, everybody talks about. And sometimes it's, like, not an aha moment. Sometimes it's just, like, push send, you know, What? I mean, like, before you're actually ready. For example, like, I'm gonna still put out this other podcast, even though the audio. My part of the audio does not sound good, you know, And I'm just. I'm just putting it out there because we put the energy in there. And I'm grateful that I have this, like, new podcast partner that she's, like, willing to, like, work through this with me. And again, which is so funny, she's new to podcasting. I've been in this for, like, six or seven years, and I'm the one up the audio. But again, that just goes to show you, like, my humanness, you know, I'm. I'm doing a lot of things right now, and I just need to remember to, like, slow down and, like, check the audio one last time before me and her start blabbing away. But anyhow, if you're feeling like you want to share something or there's something that you want to do, stop waiting for that, like, perfect moment. There's not a perfect moment. Just start sharing. Just start posting. I know you hear people say it a lot, but it really is the truth. For example, I also literally just put out, speaking of my music, I recorded part of, like, a DJ set that I played for my friends at the pool. Pool party at Coachella. And, like, the audio sounds pretty good, but it, like, it's not perfect because, like, I just started DJing, so there's things I'm like, oh, I shouldn't have done that. I shouldn't have done that. Or it's like, it ends really abruptly because first off, I first. I forgot to push start when I started playing. So it's like, halfway through the first song when it starts recording, and then it ends really abruptly because we got. We actually got shut down for, like, a noise complaint, even though it wasn't noisy. But that's a whole other freaking story. Even though I wanted to play into the house, like, way louder, which was funny. I was just playing outside, and we were next to the golf course, and they were like, it's too loud. And, like, I don't even think you can hear it. But anyhow, I decided to also put that out on SoundCloud for, like, my friends to listen to. Like, if you guys want to listen to it. Just to start getting myself in the habit of doing it. It's. What was I telling you about when I. When my neighbor saw me naked? It's exposure therapy. I'm. It's. The more you can just put yourself out there. And do exposure therapy, you're gonna realize, like, it's not as bad as you think it is. And especially if you are starting something new, there's actually probably not going to be as many eyes on it as you think, which is, you know, of course you want eyes on it, but when you're first starting out, you're probably not going to have a lot of eyes on it, you know, so then that you're not really getting that much feedback. It's just kind of out there in the universe. But then hopefully that gives you like the confident and just like the skills. You're like, okay, how do I even post something on SoundCloud? How do I even post something on Tick Tock? How do I even edit a video? You know what I mean? And I think if you like push yourself into these scenarios, it's going to help you learn a lot faster. So, like, I might not be the best dj, but the fact that I've already learned how to upload music, buy music, download music, mix music, put all of like my computer and the speakers and the controller all together, you know what I mean? And you can apply, you can apply that to anything that you're doing in life, whether it's like in the treatment room or outside of the treatment room. Just start doing. Also made me think because last week I went and taught at a school in Culver City, just out here in la, and I was teaching them some facial massage movements. And you know, it. Learning facials is hard. Learning facial massage is even harder. Especially like when you're starting ground zero. Even the fact of just like learning how to like touch people and touch a person with confidence, but also staying grounded in yourself again, things they're probably not teaching you in school. But I'm grateful that the school allowed me to come in and teach. And I was just telling all of the students, like, practice, practice, practice. Like, put yourself in as many real life scenarios as you possibly can because that's how you learn. Like you could the textbook front and back and have it all freaking memorized and know every single, like little thing. And I think that's great for some people. It's not how I operate. Like, don't give me a quiz on certain, like, ingredients because I'm not, that's just not who I am. I'm more of like a, a feelings person. I'm more of like a in person, put things into action person. And I think as estheticians, a lot of us are, don't let the Internet fool you or make you Feel bad that they're like rambling off all these big words in fancy skincare, whatever, because they probably memorized it from Wikipedia or maybe they really have the information. But I'm just telling you it's not everything. And we all bring something really special and different to the esthetician table. Okay, so like there is going to be that client that wants like all the scientific stuff and then there's going to be the client that just like trusts you and wants to feel good. I hope I'm making sense, but I think I am to my people. That's the other thing. I'm not, I'm not trying to over explain myself anymore. Like I want to share with you guys, but you either get it or you don't. And I love you either way. But I had such a nice time sharing with the students and the way that I teach is I like to show you and then I want you to do it on each other and then I want you to feel it from me. So because again, like I have learned so, so, so, so, so, so, so much from actually receiving treatments from other people. It's such a beautiful, in my opinion, way to learn. And maybe you don't have the finances to go see a lot of other people or maybe you don't have the community yet. So my favorite thing to do and really is like to me the, the core of being like a really good just service provider in general. Especially when you're like offering treatments. Do every freaking treatment. Use every piece of skin care on yourself. How in the heck are you going to understand the product, the treatment unless you have received it yourself? Do it on yourself. Even if, I mean this is where we can get in a little bit of trouble and but I think estheticians push it in general even if it's not like the bet, you know, maybe like you're acne prone and you're doing something that's anti aging. Try it once or at least put it on your arm or your hand or put it on a little piece of your face and then like wipe it off. So at least you're getting the feel of the product and a deeper understanding. Because there is a deeper understanding when you have that physical product on you. You can say I'm woo. You can say I'm crazy. But I've had a lot of success in this career and I am able to understand products by just the way they feel on my skin. It helps me have a deeper understanding of the product by using them. So I highly recommend that like how could you have things in your treatment room that you're using every day that you haven't used on yourself? There's no way you could have the fullest, deepest knowledge of that, in my opinion. Doesn't mean you're using it all the time, but it means you. You've used it at least once, so you understand it on a more, like, deeper physical meaning rather than just, like, reading it from a textbook. You feel me? I think you do, because I know you have products in there that you haven't used. And, you know I know because it was me. It. Me. Like, I did the same thing we all do, because no one taught me any of these things. And we're, like, so overwhelmed by, like, all the other things, like how to put our brush down and how to do this and does it look aesthetic and blah, blah, blah, that, like, you forget. Like, oh, like, maybe I just need to work on, like, my hand movements, and I just need to feel all the products, and then I need to, like, feel into that. Like, we are working with other human beings. Don't forget that. That focus on the other human that's literally laying there vulnerable in your bed. Like, focus on that. Stop focusing on, like, if you have the perfect aesthetic or the perfect. Perfect. Whatever, whatever. Because it's not perfect, and it won't be, because that is unrealistic. And I just want to encourage you to, like, not be afraid to try things and to not feel like you have to follow one stupid trend because it's on the Internet. You know what I mean? Like, pave your own way. Pave your own way. Feel into things. What feels good to you. Follow that. What doesn't feel good to you. Stop doing that. For example, I've always focused on facials. As an esthetician, that's just what has brought me the most joy. And I feel like where the most of my gifts have been able to be, like, flourished. But I would squeeze in people when they're like, can I do a brow wax? Can I do a lip wax? Can I do a wax? And it's just, like, for so many years, I was like, yeah, yeah. Because it's like, you don't want to say no to the money, but I freaking hated it. And I'm pretty sure I probably messed up a few people's eyebrows, because even though I wasn't, like, horrible, I wasn't great, and it just wasn't something I was practicing regularly, and I didn't have the same passion. And so then I'm like, I'm telling the universe that, like, I don't believe 1000% in my facials or, like, I don't believe in my own financial success and abundance because I'm taking things that I don't like. So now I'm only doing things that I like. I'm only doing things that I love. And I feel like the universe is rewarding me for doing those things. I know it doesn't sound. I know it might sound counterintuitive. It's not what, like, society and culture has taught us, right? Society's taught us, like, work hard, be a girl boss, be a boss. Work, work, work. Like you're a workaholic. And then maybe, maybe you'll get to take a vacation once a year. Like, I don't believe in that. That's like, every day should not feel like a vacation, but every day should, like, bring you joy in some way instead of like, feeling like you're on the hamster wheel rat race to nowhere. So if, again, if there's something that you don't like, don't force yourself to do it. I know, like, you want the extra money, but what if, like, but then you're expelling this energy into something that you don't really enjoy and then you don't have the full energy to do the things that you're actually enjoying.

Casey Boone
Okay, I hope this resonates with some of you. I think it will. I'm going through like these, I'm going through these same things myself. That's why I share this because I've just been in this in between place, I don't know for the past, like year where I'm just like, what am I doing what do I like? What do I not like? So I just started experimenting and I stopped forcing myself to do all these things just because it sounded good or it seemed like an opportunity, or like, I don't want to say no to the money, but I started to say no to opportunities and I started to say no to money and it was really, really hard. And there was lots of times again where like, fear would come up, but now I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel of like, what's like to come for me next. And so if you're feeling stuck, if you're feeling stagnant, stop forcing. Stop forcing. Just be. Could you just be for a second and not be on to the next thing? I know it feels uncomfortable. I frickin know. But I just want to know. I want you to know that I'm sitting here with you, I'm holding your hand and I'm saying, like, just sit, just breathe until, you know, until you feel what's next. And until then, yes, keep doing what you have to do. Of course, I get it. Like, you got to pay the bills and take care of the kids, but don't forget to take care of yourself. Okay? And on that note, I'm so excited that I am officially hosting my first esthetician meetup retreat day. It's going to be Sunday, May 18th. It's going to be here in downtown LA. I found this really beautiful, cool loft in downtown. And we're just gonna have a day, a day for ourselves because as estheticians, as service providers, we're naturally givers, right? We're giving to everybody else and then we're probably giving to our friends and to our family. And then at some point there's nothing left to give. And you really actually need to be giving some energy or a lot of energy to yourself. So I hope you guys will join me. People are already signing up, which makes me so happy. I was like, a little nervous because I wasn't sure, I just wasn't sure if this would be something that the community was looking for. But I felt like the community needed this. And this is again, me kind of like merging two worlds together, like the, the Casey Boone skin care mixed with iconic disco queen. And I really want to share some of these, like, modalities that like, I've been using in my everyday life that are really changing the way that I move through life and the way that I move through work. And I'm really excited to share that with you. So I'll be there and I Have my friend Osiris. He's incredible. He is a yoga instructor. I met him up in Topanga Canyon, I think at the end of last year. And I've been taking yoga class with him. I've taken. He does these like, really cool courses. I took like a spring into or flow into spring with him. And he's really, really special and really, really intuitive. And I can't wait for you guys to experience his magic. So he'll be teaching a yoga class. So come comfortable, come yoga. Bring a yoga mat. I will have a few yoga mats if anyone needs one. Or like you're traveling from out of town, but try and bring a yoga mat. And then after that, straight from Shavasana at the end of yoga, I'm going to take you through a sound bath meditation. I'm going to be giving every single person a scalp massage. And then that will lead you into. We're gonna kind of like, we'll start like relaxing and then we'll uplift the energy and I'll play you a little DJ set. That's gonna be fun. So you guys can stay and dance. I'm gonna be serving my friends cacao, which is a really beautiful heart opener. We're going to be serving my friends use this beauty tea. Both of those things. I've been drinking every sing and you know, I've all been all about eating your skincare and drinking your skincare and I want to share those things with you so you can pass that off to your clients as well. And of course, I will have my products available for purchase as well, like the bowls, the towels, the fan brushes, all that good stuff. Because originally this was going to be like a bowl launch. But I. I'm like, the bowl's great. The bowl's amazing. Get the bowl, get 10 of the bowls, you're going to love it. But what's kept me going all these years and what I'm so grateful for is you guys and the community. And I just feel like this is a little way that I can like give back and hopefully uplift and again, like combined my two worlds and share them with you. So if you haven't signed up, I'll leave the link in the bio. It's also in or in the show notes. It's also in the bio on my Instagram and at. And tick tock at Casey Boone Skincare. Or email me if you have questions at Sales Glow Skincare LA.com I want you guys to be there. I can't wait to see you. It's going to be a really special day. I'm trying to think of anything else is going on. I feel like there's other stuff, but I don't know. Those are kind of the priorities. Like, I'm like, have a couple people ask me if I was going to Vegas. I don't know. I don't know, should I go to Vegas? I kind of want to be like, if someone wants to take me out there, I might go. Or I don't know, maybe if this party does well, we do another party in Vegas. I'm not sure if you have ideas, if you want to collaborate, if you want to work together, call me, email me, DM me. Let's figure something out. I'm just kind of in like a fun, free, creative mood and I want to share that with you. So if you made it this far, I love you. Thanks for listening to the podcast all of these years or if this is your first time, welcome. Make sure you're also following me on TikTok and Instagram and Pinterest and YouTube at Casey Boone Skincare. If you care to follow my personal account, I am iconic disco queen on soundcloud, Instagram, tick tock. I think there's a YouTube coming soon and yeah, I love you guys. I'll see you soon.
Skin and the City Podcast by Kasey Boone Skincare™
Episode: Stop Striving for Perfection + Esthetician Retreat Day
Release Date: April 28, 2025
Host: Kasey Boone
In this engaging episode, Kasey Boone delves deep into the pressures of perfectionism within the esthetician community and shares her personal journey towards embracing imperfection. She intertwines her experiences as a business owner, creative individual, and educator to provide invaluable insights for fellow estheticians. Additionally, Kasey announces an exciting upcoming esthetician retreat designed to foster community, self-care, and professional growth.
Kasey opens the episode by reflecting on her challenges with audio quality while co-hosting a separate podcast with her friend Mary. This technical hiccup serves as a springboard for her broader discussion on perfectionism.
Key Insight:
“Number one, you can never actually be perfect. That's, like, an unachievable thing.”
[04:15]
Kasey emphasizes the futility of striving for perfection and encourages estheticians to remove fear and judgment from their professional practices.
Personal Journey:
She recounts her early days as an esthetician, operating under her maiden name, Casey Hirsch, and her aspirations to own a spa. Kasey's willingness to launch her business and start interacting with clients even when she felt unprepared highlights her proactive approach to growth.
Kasey discusses the pervasive fear of not being ready that holds many professionals back from sharing their work and expanding their businesses.
Notable Quote:
“What is ready? Like, you could strive and strive and strive and work and work and work and get every tiny little thing perfect, perfect, perfect. But again, like, what is perfect?”
[06:30]
She advocates for taking action despite uncertainties, suggesting that waiting for the "perfect moment" is often paralyzing and ineffective.
Practical Advice:
Kasey shares her experience of recording a DJ set and uploading it to SoundCloud as a form of "exposure therapy." By putting herself out there, she mitigates fears and gains confidence, even if the results aren't flawless.
Kasey highlights the importance of hands-on experience over theoretical knowledge in mastering esthetic practices.
Teaching Experience:
Reflecting on her recent session teaching facial massage movements at a school in Culver City, Kasey underscores the difficulty of learning to touch clients with confidence and authenticity.
Key Takeaway:
“Do every freaking treatment. Use every piece of skincare on yourself. How in the heck are you going to understand the product, the treatment unless you have received it yourself.”
[12:45]
She encourages estheticians to personally use the products and treatments they offer to clients, fostering a deeper understanding and better service delivery.
Kasey shares her shift from performing services she didn’t enjoy, like brow and lip waxes, to focusing solely on facials, which bring her the most joy.
Personal Revelation:
“I'm telling the universe that, like, I don't believe 1000% in my facials or, like, I don't believe in my own financial success and abundance because I'm taking things that I don't like.”
[15:20]
By aligning her services with her passions, Kasey not only enhances her job satisfaction but also attracts clients who value her expertise and enthusiasm.
Societal Commentary:
She critiques the "work hard, be a girl boss" mentality, advocating instead for daily joy and fulfillment in one's professional life.
Towards the end of the episode, Kasey unveils her plans for the first esthetician meetup retreat day, scheduled for Sunday, May 18th, in downtown LA.

Empathetic Message:
“I'm sitting here with you, I'm holding your hand and I'm saying, like, just sit, just breathe until, you know, until you feel what's next.”
[17:50]
She reassures estheticians that feeling uncertain is natural and emphasizes the importance of self-care alongside professional responsibilities.
Community Building:
Kasey invites collaboration and creative partnership, expressing her desire to engage more deeply with her audience and fellow professionals.
“Let's figure something out. I'm just kind of in like a fun, free, creative mood and I want to share that with you.”
[17:55]
In this uplifting episode, Kasey Boone effectively dismantles the myth of perfectionism, advocating for authenticity, continuous learning, and passionate engagement in one’s work.
