Jessica
Hey sleep magicians, it's Jessica here with a magic minisode in which I tell you guys what's coming up on the show in the weeks to come. And premium listeners, please stick around because your version has some extra insight from me at the end. Okay, so this is our first magic minisode and its topic is love. It is of course still February, and love has been the theme for many people this month. Now, I don't know about you, but I've spent more Valentine's days without a box of chocolate than with one, at least one that someone else gave me, I have bought my own. I feel like the whole Valentine's thing creates a lot of pressure. So for anyone out there who doesn't feel particularly lucky at that type of love, lucky for us, it's not the only love. And love is a very big topic worth a lifetime of exploration. Love doesn't just move through lovers. And I feel like it's almost because romance has not been my forte in this lifetime that I ended up Exploring other forms of love very, very deeply. Which brings us to episodes we've done here at Sleep Magic on love, stuff we have in the back catalog. So here are my recommendations for where to dive in if you're looking to improve your relationship to love. So way back in the beginning, I did an episode on practicing self love where we really connect with the heart and with that little kid that we all have inside of us. And I really like this episode because self love is a big deal. We talk about it all the time in our culture. And I think when we reach for self love from the ego, it's like we're looking for a sense of worthiness to deserve our own appreciation, like it's some reward that we finally earn. But in my hypnotherapy practice and in my own life, thanks to hypnosis, self love has very little to do with the ego at all. And thank goodness for that. Self love is just resonating with myself, being at peace with myself, free of all the conflicts and negative belief systems that tend to get in the way. So it's not so much finding something, but letting go of what's in the way of that resonance and finding that core inside that is intact and whole. I promise, we all have it. Okay, so that's practicing self love. Later, I did one called Becoming a Love Magnet. And I got the idea for this episode from a student in one of my hypnosis classes who wanted to make a self hypnosis tape or recording that gave the suggestion People love me. She wanted to give that message to her own subconscious mind. And although I totally understood her desire to feel that, I told her that she'd kind of gotten it backwards. We can't reach into other people and make them think or feel anything. But if she were willing to practice loving other people, becoming the lover herself, I suspected she'd find that she would receive all sorts of love back. So to become love magnets, we need to open ourselves to giving love and appreciation to others. That's the key. And just this month, we released an episode called Practicing Unconditional Love, something that I've tried to cultivate for many years through meditation. And it too, begins with a foundation of acceptance. Being at peace in the moment, being at peace with life, with ourselves. And from this peace and acceptance, we make room to emit positive energy to everyone around us. When we accept ourselves, we accept others unconditionally. When we accept ourselves, we get under all of our judgments and negative beliefs and inner conflicts, all the stuff that gets in The Way of Love. And finally, we have our mailbag episodes to look back on that always seem to have a thread of love and relationships running through them. The one that comes to mind first is from September called Loneliness, Love and Getting Back Out There where I answered some of our listeners questions on some pretty specific love related topics. I hope you can tune into that one if you haven't already. Okay, so coming up, our next mailbag episode will be on February 27th and it's going to be a little different. I'll be interviewing Dr. Sophie Bostock, the sleep scientist. She is such a cool person and I ask her all sorts of great questions that we received from you guys about sleep, like what is the ideal position for falling asleep? And are sleep problems hereditary? And so many other questions that you've sent. You're going to love this conversation. It's really, really interesting. Plus she's got a really cool British accent which is always fun to listen to. You can watch this conversation on Spotify because we did a video of it or just listen to it wherever you listen to your podcasts. Also, another announcement. In the "Magic Minisode 🪄✨ Learning to Love" episode of Sleep Magic: Guided Sleep Hypnosis & Meditation, host Jessica Porter delves into the multifaceted nature of love, transcending traditional romantic notions to explore self-love, unconditional love, and the broader spectrum of human connections. This episode serves as both an introduction to upcoming content and a reflective piece on understanding and cultivating love in various forms.
Jessica opens the minisode by acknowledging the societal emphasis on romantic love, especially around Valentine's Day. She shares a personal perspective on celebrating love without relying solely on romantic gestures:
Jessica [00:47]: "Valentine's creates a lot of pressure, but love isn't just limited to romance. It's a vast subject worth lifelong exploration."
She emphasizes that love encompasses much more than romantic relationships, encouraging listeners to recognize and cultivate other forms of love in their lives.
A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to the concept of self-love. Jessica references a previous episode focused on practicing self-love, highlighting its importance beyond ego:
Jessica [02:15]: "Self-love isn't about earning worthiness; it's about resonating with yourself and being at peace, free from conflicts and negative beliefs."
She distinguishes self-love achieved through genuine self-connection from superficial self-esteem driven by ego, advocating for a deeper, more authentic approach.
Building on the theme, Jessica discusses the idea of becoming a "love magnet," inspired by a student's inquiry about affirmations. She explains that attracting love involves more than self-affirmation; it requires actively giving love to others:
Jessica [05:30]: "To become love magnets, we need to open ourselves to giving love and appreciation to others. It's about creating a reciprocal flow of love."
This approach fosters an environment where love is both given and received naturally, enhancing relationships and personal well-being.
Jessica introduces the concept of unconditional love, which she has cultivated through meditation. She explains how acceptance forms the foundation of this practice:
Jessica [08:20]: "When we accept ourselves, we accept others unconditionally, removing judgments and negative beliefs that obstruct love."
By embracing unconditional love, individuals can emit positive energy, fostering healthier and more meaningful connections with those around them.
