Hi, I'm Jessica Porter, and welcome back to Sleep Magic, a podcast where I help you find the magic of your own mind, helping you to sleep better and live better. Good evening, everyone. It's so good to be here. Thank you for being here. I just want to acknowledge that we've been hearing from people all over the world. South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, India, Sweden, you name it. People are sleeping better, relaxing more, going deep inside and taking care of themselves,
Co-host or Guest
taking care of yourselves.
Jessica Porter
So thank you everyone for doing that and thanks for letting us know. Tonight we're going to talk about a really important part of the mind. We're addressing the protective mind.
Co-host or Guest
So I want to talk about something
Jessica Porter
that in hypnosis, we often call the protective mind. Now, your subconscious mind is responsible for a lot. It handles your memories, your emotions, your
Co-host or Guest
habits, even your imagination. But one of the most important things it does is look after you.
Jessica Porter
We are at our cores, very self protective. For example, you move through the world, you respond to your environment, often without even thinking about it.
Co-host or Guest
There's a quiet intelligence in that something
Jessica Porter
always working in the background. That's your protective mind.
Co-host or Guest
And it doesn't switch off at night. In fact, sometimes it's the very thing
Jessica Porter
that can keep you awake.
Co-host or Guest
You see, there may have been times in your life where it felt very necessary to stay alert or to stay aware, to not fully let go.
Jessica Porter
And that made sense at the time. But the problem is that alertness can
Co-host or Guest
become a habit, something that continues even
Jessica Porter
when it's no longer needed.
Co-host or Guest
And that's often where sleep becomes more challenging, when the mind is still trying
Jessica Porter
to protect you by keeping you awake.
Co-host or Guest
So part of taking care of yourself is recognizing when something that once helped you is ready to soften. Because in your current reality, it may
Jessica Porter
be safe to rest.
Co-host or Guest
And when that shift begins, it can bring a real sense of ease, both
Jessica Porter
in the body and in the mind.
Co-host or Guest
And that's what allows sleep to come more naturally. So tonight, we're going to gently communicate
Jessica Porter
with that protective part of you and begin to offer a new message that
Co-host or Guest
rest is safe and that sleep is
Jessica Porter
part of how you take care of yourself.

And I really didn't expect my sheets to be one of those things, but recently they have been. You know, it's a simple change, but it's made that moment when I get into bed feel noticeably more relaxing because I ordered the bamboo sheet set from Quince and they've been such a great addition to my bedroom. They're soft, breathable and cool when you first get in. Quince bedding is designed to feel light and airy all night, whether it's bamboo, linen or organic cotton, and their linen actually gets softer with every wash, which I love. Everything feels thoughtfully made but still simple and much more accessible than you'd expect because they work directly with their manufacturers. So get yourself into a safe and comfortable position and let's begin. Just allow your eyes to close easily and gently and bring your awareness to your breathing. Just allow your breath to be normal and natural. But your awareness, your awareness which has been outside of you all day, out in the world, exploring things, doing things, thinking things. Just allow your awareness to come back to your breath. Come back to your body. It feels so nice to allow your awareness to simply rest on your breath. Just imagine that your awareness is like a light little surfer surfing the wave of your breath. Good.

Now I'd like you to bring your
Jessica Porter
awareness up into your eyelids. And imagine now that the little muscles of your eyelids are feeling loose and limp and relaxed. Imagine your eyelids are like those heavy red velvet curtains on a stage with little ball bearings sewn into the bottom. They're heavy. And as your eyelids get heavier and heavier, so sleepy, so comfortable, so relaxed. I'd like you to accept the suggestion that your eyelids are so relaxed that they simply will not open. And in a moment, I'm going to ask you to test your eyelids to make sure they won't open. Now let's be clear. I know you could open your eyes if you really, really want to, But I'd like you to pretend that you can't open your eyelids. Just pretend like a little kid playing a game. And when you test your eyelids, you'll simply wiggle your eyebrows, demonstrating to yourself, ooh, I can't open my eyes. So let's do that. Now I'd like you to test your eyelids to make sure they will not open by wiggling your eyebrows. Good. Great. You can stop now. This relaxation that you have around your eyes is the same quality of relaxation that you will soon have throughout your entire body. So let's imagine that relaxation around your eyes is moving back into your head. Let's imagine a warm mist of relaxation is taking over every single cell of your brain, Causing your scalp to relax, causing your head to sink further into the pillow, feeling so heavy, even the muscles of your face becoming loose and limp and slack. As you imagine warm waves of relaxation lapping up against the beach of your mind. Allow those warm waves of relaxation to lap up against the beach of your mind. As all mental tension disappears. Good. You're doing great. So let's allow this mist of relaxation that's circulating up in your head. Let's imagine it moving down through your neck, the large muscles of your neck releasing and letting go as the relaxation moves down into your shoulders. And the muscles of your shoulders begin to melt like butter into the bed. And as the muscles of your shoulders release, all of the responsibilities you carry in the world are falling to the floor. And you can pick any or all of them up when you wake up tomorrow morning. But for right now, your only responsibility is to yourself. Good. So let's allow that warm mist of relaxation now to move down into your arms, allowing your arms to feel nice and heavy, like they're made of mold. Marble. And as the relaxation moves down into your hands, the palms of your hands are feeling warm and open. Perhaps the palms of your hands even tingle a little as the relaxation moves down now into your fingers. Every finger feeling full, heavy, and totally relaxed. Totally relaxed. As you listen to this recording, you may be aware of some sounds going on around you. Noises from within your environment. Traffic on the streets. But from this moment on, no sound will bother or disturb you in any way. In fact, from this moment on, any sound that you hear will cause you to go deeper and even deeper into relaxation. Make the decision that the sounds going on around you are taking you deeper and deeper. And they will. The only sound you are paying any attention to is the sound of my voice. And the sound of my voice is also taking you deeper and deeper into relaxation. And if you fall asleep, that's great. So let's imagine that warm mist of relaxation now coming down through your neck again down deep into your chest cavity. That warm mist of relaxation is opening and expanding your whole chest cavity. As you take a nice deep breath. Imagine that warm mist of relaxation is surrounding and supporting your heart. Notice how nice it feels to allow your heart to. To relax, to be held, to be supported. Imagine that warm mist of relaxation moving down through and around your middle organs now moving deep into your belly, causing your pelvis to feel heavy on the bed. The muscles of your lower back are letting go any muscles you might hold unconsciously during the day. In your belly, relaxing, your buttocks relaxed. As the warm mist of relaxation moves down your legs. Allow your legs to feel nice and heavy, like they're made of marble. And as the relaxation moves down into your feet, the soles of your feet are feeling warm and open. Perhaps the soles of your feet even tingle a little as the relaxation moves down now into your toes. Every toe feeling full, heavy and totally relaxed. Totally relaxed. Imagine now that you are standing at the top of the escalator of relaxation. This escalator goes down like an escalator in a department store. And in a moment, as you take it down, you will pass all the levels of your subconscious mind. Allow yourself now to step onto the escalator. It feels good, safe and is moving smoothly. You feel confident and happy riding on your personal escalator, becoming more acquainted with your inner mind. And as you go down, down, down to the.

You arrive

at the floor of your memories. You get off the escalator briefly look around and see some artifacts from your past. This floor is full of pleasant memories, all available to you whenever you want to revisit them. Just like in a department store. To go from one floor to another, you must turn around and take a second escalator down. Imagine yourself getting on the second escalator as you go down, down, down. And you arrive at the floor of your image. Notice as you get off the escalator, representations of your dreams, your fantasies, and everything your subconscious mind is planning to create in your life. The imagination floor feels great and you can visit it anytime you choose to. As you turn around and take the next escalator down, down, You reach the floor of your habits. As you get off the escalator, you see that this floor is about your learning and processing and streamlining your life. Most of your habits are very positive and they help you to live a good life. You find yourself turning and getting on the next escalator. As you go down, down, down, you arrive at the floor of your emotions. This is a powerful place, full of energy and drama. There are places on this floor for you to feel excitement, happiness, but also safe places for anger and grief. You have room to have all your feelings. Finally, you get on the last escalator which is taking you down, down, down to the floor of your protective mind. This is where you take care of yourself. As you get off the escalator, you notice that there are several doors on this floor. One says morals and values. Another says physical protection. And yet another reads intuition. This is one of the deepest levels of your being where you handle all sorts of very important mechanisms related to your well being. As you stand on the floor of your protective mind, all the doors fade into the distance except one. And on this door reads the word sleep. A sensor appears on the door with an outline of your hand. Only you can open the door of sleep and it requires that you identify yourself. Place your palm on the sensor. You hear a beep as the sensor identifies you. The door swings open and you see yourself at the age when you're sleeping changed. Perhaps you were a child or a stressed out student. Maybe you were a new parent who had to get up several times in the night. See yourself at the age when you needed to be vigilant and it interfered with your sleep. Reach out and embrace your younger self. Give your younger self a hug. You have been waiting for this comfort for a very long time. Give your younger self permission to relax. It's okay to relax now that time is over. It's safe to relax. As you hug, your younger self releases into your arms. Finally, Feel your younger self relax completely. Look at his or her face and notice what has changed. All the tension and intensity has disappeared. Peace has returned to the center of your being. Imagine now that your younger self is dissolving into your present self as you merge into one. You are now at the center of your protective mind and are in charge of your relationship to sleep. You notice that there's a soft, comfortable, king sized bed at the center of this room. You lay yourself down on it and look up at the ceiling. The lights go down around you as you feel more and more comfortable. Now you get to decide what the perfect amount of sleep is for you. You get to reset your protective. On the ceiling there's a dial with numbers on it from 1 to 10. Set it to the exact number of hours you'd like to sleep each night. Listen to your intuition as it tells you what you need. Next to the first dial is a second one which determines the depth and quality of sleep. It goes from light and disturbed on one end to deep and peaceful on the other. Place that dial exactly where you'd like it to be. Follow your intuition. As you relax completely on your comfortable king sized bed. The dials disappear and you feel good knowing that you are safe within your protective mind. You feel good knowing that you are in control of your inner mind. You feel good realizing that there is so much of you to explore and enjoy. But now it's time to rest. You close your eyes. Burrow into the bed in the way that feels most comfortable to you. The lights become dim and the room goes to exactly the right darkness for you. As your body is relaxing, your mind is relaxing. And as your mind is relaxing, your body is relaxing. And as your body is relaxing, your mind is relaxing. And as your mind mind is relaxing, your body is relaxing. And as your body is relaxing, your mind is relaxing. And as your mind is relaxing, Your body is relaxing. As you go deeper. And deeper. And deeper. Sam. Sa.
