Hi everyone, this is Jessica Porter and welcome back to Sleep Magic, a podcast where I help you find the magic of your own mind, helping you to sleep better and live better. Thank you so much for being here. I have a few shout outs tonight, people who've reached out to me through my website. First of all, Carol, a retired healthcare professional, has been through a lot lately and Laura too, has had a doozy of a time and both feel really supported by Sleep Magic. Laura says so now when I recommend it to people, I tell them Sleep Magic is helping me make my life worth worth living again. Wow. I'm so, so glad that we can support you in that. Tato from South Africa is 15 years old, struggles with anxiety, and says Sleep Magic is really helping to get good sleep. Thank you for letting us know, Tato, and thank you for listening. Senior Canuck from Ottawa says, by the way, Americans, it's not Canuck, it's Canuck. Normally when someone is told that their voice puts people to sleep, they would be very insulted or hurt. Well, I'm sorry, Senior Canuck, but I am not insulted. I am not hurt. Okay? I am complimented. And that's my Bob and Doug Canadian accent. Thank you. Thanks for letting me know. Shout outs to a few others. Andrea has a great episode suggestion about rafting in New Zealand. Elena has a great question for the mailbag. Janice sometimes listens in her waking hours. Jeannie is using sleep magic to help her manifest, and Alex is using it to get through a breakup. Well, everybody, this is you discovering the magic of your own mind, you helping you, and I'm extremely grateful to be a part of that. Thank you for listening, sending feedback and subscribing. We are very, very grateful to you. Okay, tonight, turn down your busy mind. We live in a very go go world, and I think we're all subject to either covert or overt pressures to produce, to move the ball forward, to do. And you know, the energy of the daytime, the sun shining, others running around doing things, they support this pressure and not in a bad way. It's just the thrust of daytime light, and especially the light of a big ball in the sky, which is a million times bigger than the earth itself, is pretty activating. But the whole vibe of nighttime is different. And not just different, but the opposite. As the stars come out, darkness reigns. And that's a time for shutting down, for not producing, not doing and tossing the ball right off the court. And yet our engines get pretty revved during the day and many of us have a tricky time making this shift. So Tonight's hypnosis is all about moving into a control room inside of you where you get to actively turn down all that activity, where you give yourself full permission to let go. Before we begin our only ad break which makes this magic possible to listen ad free, follow the link in the show Notes so good, so good, so good.

the book, the end of an era and don't miss Taylor Swift the Eras Tour, the final show featuring for the first time the tortured poets department. Streaming December 12th only on Disney Plus. Now get yourself into a safe and comfortable position and let's begin. Allow your eyes to close easily and gently. And just invite your awareness to come back to your breath. Your awareness has been very active today, exploring, learning, doing, thinking. So as we invite the awareness back home to the body, back home to the breath, It's an invitation to Slow down and settle. Now. The awareness doesn't like to settle for too long, and that's okay. We don't have total control over our minds. But as the body relaxes, the mind slows down. And that's what we're doing tonight. So bring your awareness now up into your eyelids. Let's imagine that your eyelids are feeling heavy, sleepy, very, very heavy. And as you allow this heaviness into your eyelids, I'd like you to imagine that this heaviness, this sleepiness is so complete that you can't open your eyes. And I'm just asking you to imagine this because I know you can open your eyes if you want to. But let's pretend that you can't, just for a moment. And as you pretend that your eyelids are so sleepy and relaxed, you cannot open them. Now test them by wiggling your eyebrows. Just give them a little tug while your eyes remain closed. Good. You can stop now. Now feel that lovely, heavy, relaxed feeling around your eyes. Because this is the same quality of relaxation that you will soon have throughout your entire body. So imagine that relaxation moving back now into your head. Just feel it spreading back into your head like a mistake, this mist of relaxation spreading throughout your brain, taking over your entire brain. As all mental tension simply disappears. And your brain is weirdly relaxed. And your head is feeling very heavy on the pillow. But it feels nice to allow your head to sink even further. Heavy, like a bowling ball. Good. And you notice now that the muscles of your face, or letting go, your cheeks becoming soft and relaxed, your forehead softening, the muscles of your jaw letting go of. And as your face is relaxing, your lips, your chin, the little muscles around your nose, your whole body is relaxing. As your face is relaxing, your whole body is letting go. Your shoulders becoming soft, sinking into the bed. And that nice, warm, heavy feeling that began up around your eyes is moving down now down your arms. And your arms are becoming very heavy. But it's a delicious heaviness. Because any tension you may have carried in your shoulders during the day or in your neck or in your head. Is moving down your arms and out, your hands, releasing, evaporating as your hands become nice and heavy. And you, you are going deeper and deeper. Just hearing the sound of my voice is causing you to go deeper and deeper. And any sounds that may be occurring in your environment or even outside from the street, allow them to take you deeper and even deeper. There's no bottom to relaxation. You can always go even deeper. It feels so nice to let go. Good. As that warm, heavy Feeling that began up around your eyes is cascading now down into your torso, that wonderful warm mist entering your chest cavity. And you allow yourself to soften from the inside out, Because you have an inner world, An inner being. And as this lovely warm mist is moving down through your chest, down through your midsection, and now deep into your belly, You're coming back home to yourself, Deep inside, As your pelvis feels heavy on the bed. And any tension that may have built up inside of you today. Is disappearing, Evaporating, As the mist of relaxation moves down now into your legs. And your legs are feeling very heavy, Heavy, like they're made of marble. And the relaxation is moving all the way down into your feet and into your toes. As you go deeper. And deeper. Imagine now you're walking slowly along a quiet hallway inside your own mind. It is a peaceful corridor, softly lit. And familiar. This place has always been here, inside of you. You may not have come here consciously before, But a deeper part of you recognizes it. You come to the top of a staircase. This is a staircase of relaxation. It has 10 steps. And with every step you take down the staircase, you will go deeper and even deeper. So standing at the top, you are already at step number 10. But as you step down now, you're on nine. As you feel very relaxed, Very comfortable. As you go down now to step number eight, Letting go. Feeling good. And now seven, As you naturally go deeper. And deeper. Sex. PI. Four. Three. And deep. 2. Sam. One. At the bottom of the stairs is a door. A simple door with a small brass plate. And on it are just two words. Control room. You turn the handle. The door opens effortlessly. You enter a spacious room filled with gentle, subtle light. You see rows and rows of soft, glowing panels. With the simple dials and simple switches, Each one with its own special job. This is the place where your mind organizes the rhythms of your life. It is here where your thoughts rise and settle. This is where attention brightens and dims. And tonight you are simply here to make a few small adjustments, Gently tuning the controls, Like adjusting music in the background of your mind. In the center of the room is a big, comfortable bed. And this is where you will sleep tonight. And you are already going deeper and deeper into relaxation. As you listen to my voice. In front of you, you notice a dial labeled Activity. Because you've lived a full day, it's turned quite high. Your mind has been working, observing, responding, thinking. So you place your fingers on the dial and turn it down slowly, Gently, To exactly where you need it. Tonight, As your mind becomes quieter. Your thoughts are slowing down. As you turn down the dial a little more. Good. Next to it on the panel is another dial labeled Concern. Your mind may be holding onto small worries, unfinished loops or questions about tomorrow. You gently lower the dial and your concern lowers. It feels more distant now. Your subconscious mind is handling things as they come. And tomorrow will take care of tomorrow. So you can rest now. As you go deeper. And deeper. Another dial glow softly. Effort. The subtle effort your mind makes when it tries to stay alert, To monitor, To stay in control. You place your fingers on the smooth surface of the dial and turn it downward slowly. Your body responds as your shoulders soften and your breath deepens. Your nervous system knows this signal. Your whole system is moving into night mode, everything settling. And finally, near the center of the panel, you see a small switch. It is simple, elegant, And it's labeled Sleep System. And it's ready to activate. Your body knows how to do this. Your brain knows how to do this. Every night of your entire life, This beautiful system. Has guided you into sleep. You rest your finger gently on the switch, And with the smallest motion, you slide it softly into place. As you feel a deep quiet spreading through you. As the lights in the control room are dimming. Your body knows this signal. Your mind knows this signal. Everything moving. Into night settings. Everything functioning. As it should. You move slowly to the bed. And lie down. All the panels go dark. As your body sinks into the mattress. Your eyes close. Sa. As you drift. And. And me. It. Sa.

Jessica’s style remains nurturing, gentle, and reassuring. She uses vivid, calming metaphors (mist, heaviness, control panels) and slow, careful instructions. The language is inclusive, validating, and welcoming, consistently inviting the listener to be kind to themselves and to trust their natural ability to sleep.
This episode offers a highly effective, metaphor-driven guided hypnosis for anyone whose mind is “too busy” at bedtime. Listeners are encouraged to become active participants in their own relaxation, gaining a sense of agency over sleeplessness and worry. The session is both practical and poetic, leaving listeners with concrete mental tools—like the “control room” dials—to revisit in stressful moments.
