Foreign. Hello, friends, and welcome to Sleep Tight Stories. Lily is a little girl who has just woken from an amazing dream. She is having trouble getting up and takes a few minutes to tell her mother all about her dream. Lily's Globe Adventure. Time to get up, sleepyhead. Mommy, I can't get up yet. I haven't made it to land, and I really must make it to land. If you aren't on land, then where are you? Are you in outer space? On the moon? With her eyes still closed tight, Lily whispered, no, silly. I can't go to outer space because I'm not an astronaut yet. I need to finish science class first. I am on a rowboat crossing the Pacific Ocean. I am super, super small. So small you really can't see me. But since I guess I am waking up, I might be getting bigger. Yes, I can almost see you now. When I was asleep, I was looking at my globe on my desk. And something magic happened. It was really cool, and I wasn't scared at all. What happened? I was looking at the side where the Atlantic Ocean is and trying very hard to see where I live. And then it got bigger and bigger and super big. And then all of a sudden, I was high up in the fluffy white clouds falling down, which would normally be kind of scary, but it wasn't. It was in the clouds that I met the water people who fall down as rain. I didn't get wet, though. I watched them fall as I fell. And then they evaporate and get elevated back up to the sky where they might do it again. They all smile and laugh like when I go on rides at the exhibition. That sounds like fun. It really was. I landed on a pile of cotton candy. It looked like cotton candy anyway, but. But I didn't try any because I just brushed my teeth. But I wasn't home. I knew I wasn't because I was by the seashore and there were these old and new windmills everywhere. And when I asked a young boy how I could get home, he said I would have to take the sailboat because home was across the water. He invited me to his house for a snack, but I said I couldn't. So he let me borrow his sailboat, which I did. That was nice of him to offer you a snack. Yeah, he seemed nice. Maybe we can be friends and stuff. He could come over and have pasta or maybe even grilled cheese sandwiches. We could do that. The sailboat was really nice at first. The water was sort of calm, and I just kind of sailed and sailed and looked at all the blue water and the blue sky. The sun was really big and warm, and it had a smiley face. But then, Mommy, the sky started getting dark and I was getting chilly. If I had known I was going to travel on my globe, I wouldn't have worn just my pajamas. Then the waves got super big, and I was getting kind of nervous. Not super nervous, because I am brave, but a little. Then I met a great big whale. And she had a super big and kind eye. Her eye, I think, is much bigger than my whole head. Maybe even my body. Can you believe it? I can, because my sailboat was a little small. The whale offered to help me get across the ocean. So she swam underneath the boat, lifted it up, and I sailed on top of her back. Mommy. I had no idea that whales could swim so fast. Because in almost a blink of an eye, we were out of the storm. And I could see land ahead. That's really fast. What happened next? It was super fast. Then I landed the sailboat and said thank you and goodbye to the whale. I was on a warm, sandy beach and the sand was squishy through my toes, which is fun. I think it's too bad the whale couldn't come with me. But they only live in the ocean. It was kind of strange because this beach was so nice, but there was no one on it. If there was, I might have stayed and played a while. This is where I got kind of confused. I think I should have turned left, but I went straight ahead and I walked through trees and big cities and mountains. It took a really long time, even though I am a fast runner. Then I found a road, and there was a man selling things from a cart. And he had a little boat. Not a sailboat, just a rowboat, really. And he said I could have it because he lived far away from the water. Anyway, I didn't know you could row a boat across an ocean. But he said if the whale helped me once, she might help me again. And he was right, because I hadn't even gotten very far before she came back. She remembered me, I think, because she made a sound kind of like a song, but very low. And she brought me all the way to the other side. This time it wasn't stormy at all. She was just fast. That whale really likes you. I think she does. And then I was on another beach, and this one I knew because there were red cliffs and I could smell the salt and the mud. And I started running because I knew I was almost home. And then I was in the backyard, and the grass was wet on my feet and I could smell. Mommy, what can I smell right now? Hmm? I wonder. Lily opened one eye, then the other. French toast it might be. She sat up slowly, looking around at her room, her globe still sitting on the desk right where she left it. Her cat curled up at the end of the bed. I did make it home, she said. You always do, her mother said. Now, are you ready for breakfast, world travelers? Lily was already out of bed. And that is the end of the story. Good night. Sleep tight.
