Hello, friends, and welcome to sleept Stories. We love creating stories of all shapes and sizes, and sometimes a little story is just what you need. In this special episode, we're sharing a short short story. Small but perhaps just enough. And the best part. There are more on the way. You can also find me reading these stories over on our YouTube channel. Bernice goes to Hockey Practice Ethan chugged down his chocolate milk, gulping loudly. He was super thirsty after hockey. He loved chocolate milk, but he was only allowed to have it after hockey. Or sometimes soccer. But soccer was in the summer, and summer felt like years away. How was hockey? Bernice asked, setting down her heavy bag with a thunk. Ethan sighed. Well, I fell down five times and Big Bobby kept checking me. I couldn't skate fast enough to get away from him. So it was good, right? Bernice grinned. I think you fell eight times last week. My first time skating, I fell like 30 times. Now I only fall 10, and that's because Silly Bobby pushes me over. I'd rather play with Silly Bobby than Big Bobby, ethan muttered. But yeah, I guess I have improved. Each time you fall, you get right back up. At least that's what my papa always says. But that's easy for him. He's not a kid. And he's super big. Bernice eyed Ethan's drink. That chocolate milk looks super yummy. Delicious. Yeah. Ethan wiped his mouth. Sorry. I'd offer you some, but I already finished it. I was so thirsty. That's okay. I think my mama will get me some later after practice. We have a game too, so I might need two chocolate milks and a few cookies. I thought you didn't like hockey. It's not my favorite. And with all the other stuff I'm doing, I get super tired. Especially with swimming. But my papa says it's good to finish the season and not give up. Next year I might just skate for fun or play at the outdoor rink downtown. That sounds good. Ethan's mother waved him over. I gotta go. See you at school on Monday. Have fun at practice. He threw his hockey bag over his shoulder and ran off. See you Monday, Ethan. Bernice called out, looking around the entrance to the rink for Mama Bear. She spotted her just before Mama Bear walked over, brushing snow off her coat. How was Ethan's practice this morning? She asked, her head covered in a mound of fresh snow. Bernice grinned. You look funny all covered in snow. Mama Bear shook herself off, sending a flurry of snowflakes right onto Bernice. Hey. Bernice squeaked, laughing as she brushed snow from her sleeves. Are you ready for practice? Mama Bear asked. I am, but I hope I can do a better job of the turn drill. I don't want to be the slowest one again. And of course I can't wait to have some chocolate milk. It's almost my favorite. Right after Papa's hot cocoa. You're getting stronger every time, Little Bear. And you know what we always say. If I fall down, I get right back up and keep trying. I know, Mama, Bernice said with a determined nod. And I am getting faster. I improve all the time. That's all you can do, Little Bear. Mama Bear smiled, tucking Bernice's scarf in snugly. Now hurry and get changed. I'll be watching. And I'll have your chocolate milk and some of Papa's cookies waiting when you're done. Thank you, Mama, bernice said, already heading inside. Bernice grinned as she stepped onto the ice, feeling the cold air against her cheeks. She might fall. She might even fall a lot. But she'd get back up just like always. And maybe, just maybe, today, she'd skate just a little bit faster. And that is the end of our story. Good night. Sleep tight. It.
