Smart less medium. Here's an ancient riddle for you. What walks on four legs in the morning, two legs at noon and three legs in the evening? The answer? Some kind of weird animal, that's for sure. I mean, how many legs does this thing need anyway? This is Clueless.
Sean Hayes
Oh, my God.
Ally Wentworth
Clueless.
Elliot Kaelin
Clue.
George Stephanopoulos
I'm Clueless.
Sean Hayes
That was something else. That really did not go.
Elliot Kaelin
It didn't go the way you expected it to. Kind of a different direction. Welcome to Smartless Presents Clueless, the only podcast that starts with the words, welcome to Smartless Presents Clueless. I'm your host, Elliot Kaelin. And I'm definitely not three children in a trench coat pretending to be an adult now. Please welcome the man who started as a baby, now he's a star. Who knows what he'll be next? Sean Hayes.
Sean Hayes
Ah, what an introduction, by the way. All new material, Elliot. All incredible material. Thank you for having us. Today we're joined by this guy that I just met named Scott. Scotty. Scotty Eisenogle, who I love and is the best. And then our two very good friends who we love and adore and are just. I wish we all lived together. It's George Stephanopoulos and Ally Wentworth. And yay. Welcome. And this is so exciting. If you haven't read George's book, what's the title, Sean? The Something Room.
George Stephanopoulos
The Situation Room.
Scott Eisenogle
Situation Room.
Sean Hayes
The Situation Room. The Situation Room. That's what it is.
Elliot Kaelin
The Something Room is a good title too. You know, something's happening in that room.
Sean Hayes
And it's not about the Jersey Shore guy. The Situation. It's not. It's about. You'd think it was about his house or something, but no, that's really sweet.
George Stephanopoulos
Because our favorite show is Will and Something.
Sean Hayes
That's okay.
George Stephanopoulos
What was it, honey?
Sean Hayes
Will and the Situation. So, anyway, so happy you guys are here. Thank you for being here. We're gonna get right to it, and we're gonna play the game. I'm so excited.
Elliot Kaelin
You've got it. This is a couple versus couple episode of Clueless. First, I've just received some breaking news. I know we've all been on edge these last few days. Ever since last episode's cliffhanger puzzle escaped from Clueless custody, it's been on the loose. You may remember that we told listeners to be on the lookout for a riddle that went thusly. Take the name of a very popular current musician. Their first name is eight letters. Their last name is four letters. You can arrange these 12 letters to name two different musical instruments and a kind of flute. What musician are we thinking of? And what are the instruments you can make from their name?
Sean Hayes
Do the. Do the letters of the new words have to be 8 and 4 or 4 and 8? They could just be two new words.
Elliot Kaelin
They can just be two new words. In fact, three new words, two different musical instruments, and a kind of flute.
Sean Hayes
Okay, so pan. Right? Like a pan. Flute is one of the names.
Elliot Kaelin
That's true. That is one of the names. That's his kind of flute. And it's the kind of flute that we're talking about.
Sean Hayes
Two other. Okay, so 19. So I have nine letters left. One of them I've already used P, A, and N. Yes.
George Stephanopoulos
Can somebody wake up? George.
Sean Hayes
George.
Elliot Kaelin
The reason we brought you on this episode is we knew that your finger is on the pulse of popular music right now.
Unnamed Guest
Yes.
Scott Eisenogle
Yes.
Sean Hayes
All right, so wait, let me deduce this. So nine letters are left. And of those nine letters, I have to spell two instruments.
Elliot Kaelin
Yes.
Sean Hayes
Good God. Let's just pick. Let's just pick. Piano. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, 7, 8, 9. What's another? Is piano one of them?
Elliot Kaelin
Piano is not one of them. No.
George Stephanopoulos
Dalupa.
Elliot Kaelin
No, but thinking of.
Scott Eisenogle
Or dua, Lipa, Whatever.
George Stephanopoulos
Whatever.
Elliot Kaelin
No, thinking of the names of current performers is a good way to go about it.
Sean Hayes
Taylor Swift. I mean, is that right?
Elliot Kaelin
That's not it, but that's another currently popular musical star.
Sean Hayes
So maybe Billie Eilish.
George Stephanopoulos
Where's the N?
Elliot Kaelin
There's no Ann in there.
Sean Hayes
You know what? Can I do a side zoom with Ellie really quick?
George Stephanopoulos
Yeah. Can I talk to you for a second?
Sean Hayes
She's just coming at me hot.
Scott Eisenogle
Yeah, she's coming in.
Elliot Kaelin
What I like is this is going to be a couples versus couples. So I like that the rivalry has already begun and the conflict is there.
George Stephanopoulos
I hope Fight club is one of our games.
Elliot Kaelin
Do you want me to tell you one of the instruments that's in it?
Sean Hayes
Sure.
George Stephanopoulos
Yes.
Elliot Kaelin
Okay. Cello.
George Stephanopoulos
Oh, is Lilo and Stitch a musician?
Elliot Kaelin
Unfortunately. Unfortunately not yet. No, it is not. The answer is Chapel Roan, out of whose name you can make cello, harp, and a pan flute.
Unnamed Guest
I would have never gotten that.
Scott Eisenogle
I never would have gotten that.
Elliot Kaelin

Well, that is our cliffhanger puzzle listeners at did you get the answer? If so, then you have got your finger on that pulse of both current music and current anagrams. But this is no time to rest on your chapels. We've still got to play our main game, a team game that will pit our couples against each other in a puzzle showdown for the ages. It's called word wager. We've got the secret word. Now don't be a stranger.
Ally Wentworth
Place your bets.
Elliot Kaelin
It's time for word wager.
Sean Hayes
Oh, nice.
Scott Eisenogle
All right. I like the results.
Sean Hayes
Beautiful. Yeah.
Elliot Kaelin
This game is word wager. It's a game about words and also kind of about gambling. Contestants are given a secret word, and then they must bid on the number of single word clues they think that they'll need to say to get their partner to guess that secret word. Like of you. Yes, exactly. Yeah, exactly. One of you will have the secret word, and you'll be trying to get the other one to say it with a certain number of clues. You're gonna tell me how many words you think you're gonna need to say to get there. The other team then has the opportunity to wager that they can do it in even fewer words, and then you can go back and forth bidding until one team challenges the other to actually do it. Whichever couple can get each other to guess the right word in the fewest clues gets a point at the end of the game. Whoever has the most points wins.
Sean Hayes
That's amazing.
Elliot Kaelin
I'll also give one person from each team our first secret word and then six seconds to think about that wager. Team Allie and George. Team Sean and Scotty. Are you ready?
Scott Eisenogle
Yes.
Elliot Kaelin
Let's give to Sean and Allie our first secret word.
Sean Hayes
Okay.
Elliot Kaelin
For listeners at home, the secret word is key. Give me your wagers. How many clue words do you think you'll need to say to get your partner to say that word?
Sean Hayes
Allie, you can go first.
George Stephanopoulos
I'm going to say four words.
Elliot Kaelin
Four words. Very ambitious, Sean.
Sean Hayes
Yeah, I'm gonna say. Of course I'm gonna say three.
Elliot Kaelin
You gonna say three? Ally, do you think you can do it in two words?
George Stephanopoulos
Yes. For $500,000, I'll do it in two words.
Elliot Kaelin
I don't remember agreeing to that amount.
George Stephanopoulos
That's why I'M here.
Elliot Kaelin
Sean, do you think you could do it in one word?
Sean Hayes
No, I can't do it in one word.
Elliot Kaelin
Would you like to challenge Ally to accomplish this task with only two?
Sean Hayes
Yeah, she can do it. Do I get to go then, or. No?
George Stephanopoulos
You can go get a sandwich.
Elliot Kaelin
Yes. If Allie and George can't get to the secret word, then you'll have a chance to bring Scotty there.
Sean Hayes
Okay, great.
George Stephanopoulos
All right, ready? Here's the first word, George. Digital.
Unnamed Guest
Iphone.
Elliot Kaelin
No, that's not the word.
Unnamed Guest
Second word.
Elliot Kaelin
What's your second clue?
George Stephanopoulos
Sagaponic.
Elliot Kaelin
I think we have different words now. I'm wondering if I know what the secret word is.
George Stephanopoulos
Come on, honey. 25 years of marriage. Just look at me. Look at me.
Scott Eisenogle
Look into my soul.
Elliot Kaelin
This is the hardest part of any episode of Clueless where a marriage falls apart. Right?
Unnamed Guest
It doesn't really fall apart. I don't know what could possibly hold those two things together.
George Stephanopoulos
It's getting stronger. I can feel it.
Unnamed Guest
Alarm system.
Elliot Kaelin
No, I'm sorry.
Sean Hayes
I'm going to do it in one word.
Elliot Kaelin
Okay. Sean's going to do it in one word.
Sean Hayes
Just one word. Ready? Lock.
Scott Eisenogle
Lock.
Elliot Kaelin
You know what, Sean? I thought you had it.
George Stephanopoulos
No, you didn't.
Sean Hayes
What do you mean? He hasn't guessed yet.
Elliot Kaelin
That's true. That's true.
George Stephanopoulos
He has no idea.
Scott Eisenogle
I keep thinking of the phrase locked and loaded, but that's not it. Lock.
Unnamed Guest
And can I guess?
Sean Hayes
Yes.
George Stephanopoulos
Yeah.
Scott Eisenogle
You're gonna have to key.
Elliot Kaelin
That's it. Oh, so this again. We've never had this happen before. Now Sean and George are married, and Scotty and Ally are married.
George Stephanopoulos
That was bound to.
Scott Eisenogle
It was always bound to happen.
Elliot Kaelin
Yes.
Sean Hayes
Wait a minute. Ali, please describe digital and saga.
Unnamed Guest
No, it makes sense. She just bought a digital lock. That's why I said alarm system on our house.
Sean Hayes
Okay, okay, okay.
George Stephanopoulos
So instead of See now, when you.
Unnamed Guest
Said lock, I knew immediately.
Sean Hayes
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Elliot Kaelin
I'll give you half a point. I'll give you half a point for getting it off of the other team's clues. So now, George and Scotty, you will take your turn as the clue asker. You are going to receive the secret word, and then I want you, Scotty, to tell me. How many clue words do you think you'll need to get Shawn to say this word? The secret word is glasses.
Scott Eisenogle
One.
Elliot Kaelin
Ooh.
Scott Eisenogle
I'm going for it.
Elliot Kaelin
Yeah.
Sean Hayes
George is left with zero and just his eyes.
Unnamed Guest
Go for it. Go for it.
Scott Eisenogle
Okay. Frames.
Sean Hayes
Glasses. Yeah.
Elliot Kaelin
You got it. You did it. Great job. The word was Glasses. Wonderful. What a show of a strong relationship. Just shows how strong that relationship is.
Scott Eisenogle
It was such a silent yay. I think it was just me celebrating. There was no clapping, no cheers, nothing.
Elliot Kaelin
And now, once again, Sean and Allie, you'll be receiving the secret word. Okay, Allie, tell me how many clue words you think you will need for George to say the secret word. The secret word is marbles.
George Stephanopoulos
Two.
Sean Hayes
Two.
Elliot Kaelin
Ally says two clue words. Sean, do you think you can do it in one?
Sean Hayes
No.
Elliot Kaelin
Are you challenging Allie to live up to this wager?
Sean Hayes
Yes.
George Stephanopoulos
Okay, that doesn't scare me.
Scott Eisenogle
She's not afraid.
Sean Hayes
I gotta work on my threat.
George Stephanopoulos
Okay, I said two words.
Elliot Kaelin
Yeah, two words.
George Stephanopoulos
Crazy. He's gonna get this in 17.
Unnamed Guest
Looney.
Elliot Kaelin
All right, you've got one more clue word. That was not the answer.
George Stephanopoulos
Ally, game.
Unnamed Guest
Basic game. Twister.
Elliot Kaelin
Twister is your guess. That is not the answer.
Scott Eisenogle
What do I do?
Sean Hayes
One word or how many words do I get?
George Stephanopoulos
One word.
Sean Hayes
All right, here we go. Jax.
Scott Eisenogle
I'm thinking card game or something. I don't know.
Elliot Kaelin
Hearts.
Sean Hayes
That's a hard one.
Elliot Kaelin
It is hard. Really hard. I think it's hard.
Unnamed Guest
Why don't you say two words? You should have gone for four for me.
George Stephanopoulos
Are you talking to me?
Elliot Kaelin
Yes. You're talking to me.
George Stephanopoulos
Now you're scolding me and your lover at the same time?
Scott Eisenogle
How about and your next door neighbor, by the way?
George Stephanopoulos
How about just guess it correctly? Yelling at us for two words.
Sean Hayes
Three. Two. One.
Scott Eisenogle
I'm completely at a loss.
Elliot Kaelin
All right, the answer was marbles. Marbles.
Scott Eisenogle
Oh, Jax.
Elliot Kaelin
So you see, like a game, like Jax and Crazy Looney. It's a tough one, though. That's a tough one.
Scott Eisenogle
Those were good clues, though, I'm not gonna lie.
Elliot Kaelin
Yeah, and it's right there. So now it is time for the fourth secret word. Again, this is gonna go to George and Scotty. The secret word is mind. Scotty, how many clue words do you think you'll need to get Sean to say this secret word?
Scott Eisenogle
Using the last few rounds as kind of a test, I'm gonna go ahead and say five.
Elliot Kaelin
All right.
Unnamed Guest
I can get a four.
Elliot Kaelin
Four? You think so? Scotty, would you want to. Do you want a bit lower?
Scott Eisenogle
I want to challenge them. Go ahead.
Elliot Kaelin
All right, you've got four words.
Sean Hayes
I got four words.
George Stephanopoulos
Brain, George.
Unnamed Guest
Babysit.
Elliot Kaelin
What do you think, Allie? We've heard brain and babysit.
George Stephanopoulos
I don't know yet. Can I get the other? Can I get another word?
Elliot Kaelin
You can get up to two more words.
George Stephanopoulos
Okay, just write it down. On a piece of paper.
Sean Hayes
Allie, we can hear you.
Elliot Kaelin
Yeah. What?
George Stephanopoulos
Oh, sorry.
Unnamed Guest
Thought.
George Stephanopoulos
Give me the last one.
Unnamed Guest
Cerebellum.
George Stephanopoulos
Oh, yes, cerebellum.
Elliot Kaelin
Fancy word.
Sean Hayes
That actually was gonna be my guess.
Elliot Kaelin
But I'm gonna give you just 30 more seconds.
Sean Hayes
Yeah, 30. How about three?
George Stephanopoulos
Excuse me.
Elliot Kaelin
All right.
George Stephanopoulos
I don't know.
Elliot Kaelin
This episode of Clueless is brought to you by sportsmanship. Are you. Are you giving up?
George Stephanopoulos
I. I really don't know.
Sean Hayes
Okay, Scotty, give me one Brilliant genius. No, no, that wasn't it. That's not it. I'm dying. What was the word?
Elliot Kaelin
The word was mind. Mind is the word.
Sean Hayes
Oh, mind.
George Stephanopoulos
What does beautiful have to do with that?
Elliot Kaelin
No, that's a good. Because you're.
Unnamed Guest
It was a great thing. It was giving a different. Yeah, it was. It was trying to give you the way to go.
Elliot Kaelin
Yes.
Sean Hayes
He pivoted.
George Stephanopoulos
Pivoted to mind a child.
Elliot Kaelin
Yeah.
Unnamed Guest
You mind?
George Stephanopoulos
Yes.
Unnamed Guest
I thought it was a good clue.
Sean Hayes
Oh, you mind them. Yeah.
Elliot Kaelin
I forgot to mention.
George Stephanopoulos
Oh, my God. I didn't know we were speaking Old English.
Elliot Kaelin
I forgot to tell you. When Smartness presents Clueless Edwardian Nanny Edition.
George Stephanopoulos
Yes. Welcome to Elizabethan Clueless.
Elliot Kaelin
Mind the children.
Unnamed Guest
See, you got it.
Scott Eisenogle
Come hither.
Elliot Kaelin
There's just one more word. Sean, how many clue keywords do you think you need to tell Scotty to get this word? The secret word is virginity.
Sean Hayes
Three.
Elliot Kaelin
Three. Okay, again. Starting a lower.
George Stephanopoulos
I can do it in two.
Elliot Kaelin
You can do it in two? Okay.
Sean Hayes
This I gotta see.
Elliot Kaelin
Okay. The challenge is yours. Ally. The gauntlet is thrown. Two words.
Scott Eisenogle
Remember. Remember Ye olde English.
George Stephanopoulos
Hymen.
Sean Hayes
Nice.
George Stephanopoulos
Do you know what a hymen is, George?
Unnamed Guest
Cherry.
Elliot Kaelin
Oh, no, that's not the answer.
George Stephanopoulos
That's not the answer.
Elliot Kaelin
Allie, you've got one more word.
Unnamed Guest
But I impressed Sean.
Elliot Kaelin
That was very good, Sean.
Sean Hayes
Apparently, that was very close.
George Stephanopoulos
Bust.
Sean Hayes
Oh, okay. Very good.
George Stephanopoulos
Bust. Hyman Hop.
Sean Hayes
Oh, that's the word I thought you were gonna say. Ally.
Elliot Kaelin
That's not the right answer.
Sean Hayes
Do you know what it is? Scotty? Without any words.
Scott Eisenogle
No, I need words.
Sean Hayes
Okay, I'll give you one. Mary.
Unnamed Guest
Oh, I got it. Can I guess it?
George Stephanopoulos
No, I want to play with Sean.
Elliot Kaelin
To be honest, what we're learning is that we're learning that George and Sean are an unbeatable team with a perfect dynamic.
George Stephanopoulos
Go marry Sean. Go marry Sean. Obviously, that's what you want to do.
Unnamed Guest
He gave a great clue.
Elliot Kaelin
That was so. Scotty, do you have the answer?
Scott Eisenogle
I was gonna say mother.
Unnamed Guest
It's virgin.
Sean Hayes
Oh, virgin.
Scott Eisenogle
Virginity.
Elliot Kaelin
Technically, virginity. But I would have given it to you for virgin. Again, Sean and George, you should have been on a team together.
Sean Hayes
Well, next round, next episode when you come back.
Elliot Kaelin
That's the way to do it. Yeah.
Scott Eisenogle
Next round should be called Swingers.
George Stephanopoulos
Yeah. Well, Elliot, I think you can end this game with one word. Divorce. And moving on.
Elliot Kaelin
Wager. Don't worry. Those wagers didn't work out exactly the best. But there's still a chance for a team to win this game because. That's right, all of our secret words point to today's Mega Clue. Mega Clue question. That's right. And so each team, and this is a free for all. Yell out whoever gets it first. What is the thing that all of these answers, all these words have in common? And I'll remind you that those words are key, glasses, marbles, mind, and virginity. What do all those words have in common? If you have the answer, yell it out and you will win the game for your team because the score is so low that the Mega Clue will instantly win the game.
Sean Hayes
Wait. Key. Can you say the words again? Key.
Elliot Kaelin
Glasses, glasses, marbles, mind and virginity. What do all these words have in common?
Sean Hayes
Things you lose.
Elliot Kaelin
You got it, Sean. They are all things that you can lose. Excellent.
Unnamed Guest
That's great, Sean.
Elliot Kaelin
Team Shotty wins the day in the last minute. They are all things that you can lose. Nice work, listeners at home. Did you do as well as Sean and his guests? If not, that's okay because that means you've enriched the megaclue by making this game yet another thing that you can lose. See, now the Mega Clue is part of the Mega Clue.
Sean Hayes
Nice.
Elliot Kaelin
You didn't get it. But don't feel like a loser for too long because there's one more game to go this episode. That's right. It's today's Cliffhanger puzzle. Mysterious. The cliffhanger puzzle is like we're running a buy one, get one free sale for puzzles. Except it's all free because you didn't have to buy anything. Today's cliffhanger is another word puzzle which goes thusly. When you add two letters, this five letter word actually becomes shorter. What is it again? To say it again, when you add two letters, this five letter word actually becomes shorter. What is it?
Sean Hayes
I have an idea.
Elliot Kaelin
You got an idea? Don't reveal the answer now. Don't reveal it until the next episode. But I'm glad you got. Does anyone else have an idea?
Scott Eisenogle
No.
George Stephanopoulos
Since you're not revealing it till the next episode. I have it.
Elliot Kaelin
Ally. One of the things I love about having you on the show is the extreme confidence, constantly confidence, and you're always working the angles, always trying to figure out how to. How to find the loopholes. I love it.
George Stephanopoulos
I'm a scammer. I'm a scammer.
Elliot Kaelin
Yeah. Sean, Scotty, Ally, George, I have loved having you all on today's episode. But they say if you love something, set it free. Which is a nice way of saying the show is over. Please get out of here. But before I kick you out, I'd like to thank Allie Wentworth and George Stephanopoulos for showing us that love means never having to say you're sorry. Although it'll be an interesting conversation that they have after this game, probably the way that it went. I'd also like to thank Scotty Eisnogle for saying sorry even though he didn't have to. And finally, I'd like to thank Sean Hayes for doing all the things that Scotty had to say sorry to us for. Come back next episode when this will still be Smartless presents Clueless. And I will once again be your host, Elliot Kaelin, reminding you that love makes the world go round. Specifically the love of gravity. Thank you, everybody.
Sean Hayes
Great.
