Smart Glass medium. They say Rome wasn't built in a day, but Tampa, Florida, yeah, That's about a day's worth of work. This is Clueless.
Sean Hayes
Nice.
Elliot Kaelin
Clueless. Clueless.
Sean Hayes
I'm Clueless.
Elliot Kaelin
Welcome to Smartless presents. Clueless, the only puzzle podcast where I apologize to the people of Tampa, Florida, right off the top of the show. Please don't turn off your podcast app right now. Call me Ishmael, but I'm actually your host, Elliot Kaelin. And now please welcome the man who's young at heart but elderly in his large intestine, Sean Hayes, by the way.
Sean Hayes
Again, right on the nose with that.
Elliot Kaelin
I talked to the doctor about this before. I wrote the show today. Sure.
Sean Hayes
Somebody's gotta call. I can't get ahold of him. I'm joined by my husband, Scotty Eisenuggle, who we've been together for 18 years. What a Jo journey. Scotty, I'm sorry to say it's going to end today.
Elliot Kaelin
Oh, God.
Ally Wentworth
I was ready to cheer on the top of the hill.
George Stephanopoulos
I mean, it's a new kind of game, Scotty.
Ally Wentworth
Apparently.
Sean Hayes
Best 18 years of my life. And I'm joined by George Stephanopoulos and Ally Wentworth, who we love. Dear friends of ours. Can't wait to hang out in March and see you. And you're going to cook for us, and it better be good. And how long have you guys been together?
George Stephanopoulos
23 years.
Scotty Eisenoggle
23.
Elliot Kaelin
Wow.
Sean Hayes
23 years.
George Stephanopoulos
Yep.
Scotty Eisenoggle
Yep.
Sean Hayes
How many good ones?
George Stephanopoulos
I don't know. The wedding night was fun.
Elliot Kaelin
All right.
Ally Wentworth
And that time with the pumpkin seeds.
George Stephanopoulos
Yeah, always.
Ally Wentworth
For those who heard the last episode.
Sean Hayes
Yeah, yeah.
George Stephanopoulos
Halloween is our favorite holiday.
Elliot Kaelin
Whoa, wait a minute, guys. Speaking of last episode, I was just about to say that. This is the part of the show where we reveal the answer to last episode's cliffhanger puzzle.
Sean Hayes
Nice.
Elliot Kaelin
And I got the weirdest case of deja vu. As if I've already said that before. Every single episode. It's probably nothing, just one of those things. But at the risk of repeating myself, last episode's cliffhanger went thusly. Take the six letter name of a popular wafer based treat. Reverse the first three letters, then reverse the last three letters. When you say the new word aloud, it will sound just like a different popular treat, only this time, it's minty fresh. What are the.
Scotty Eisenoggle
I know what it is.
Elliot Kaelin
George. George, you are clamoring to answer. Let's hear it. What's the answer?
Scotty Eisenoggle
It's Kit Kat and Tic Tac.
Elliot Kaelin
Got it. That's exactly right.
Ally Wentworth
Wow.
Sean Hayes
I would have never thought about that. Wait, I gotta write that down. Kit, look at that.
Elliot Kaelin
This is someone who spends a lot of time in the supermarket. And it has paid off. Yes.
Sean Hayes
How about that?
Elliot Kaelin
That's right. You turn around, Kit, and it sounds like tick.
George Stephanopoulos
Honey, did you Google that? After we played the.
Scotty Eisenoggle
I got it right away.
George Stephanopoulos
I knew it immediately. Now there's a little window into our marriage.
Elliot Kaelin
Listeners at home, did you get the right answer? If not, maybe you're not eating enough Kit Kats or Tic Tacs. Either way, they don't sponsor this show, so I'm done talking about them. Especially since it's time for today's main puzzle. A classic game with a new jack swing twist. Odd One Out. Boyz II Men edition.
Sean Hayes
Oh, odd one.
George Stephanopoulos
Which one's the odd one out?
Elliot Kaelin
Get out.
Ally Wentworth
Get out, get out.
Elliot Kaelin
This Odd One out is a little story about Boyz II Men, the Philly based band that loves Roman numerals. They're taking their friends Casey and Jojo on the road for some romantic Valentine's Day reunion shows. They're very excited to perform together for all their fans. The only problem is their tour bus is too small and they each brought too much stuff with them. They each brought one item too many. Each member of the boys, as well as both Casey and Jojo, need to leave one of four items they brought with them so that the other three items belong in a category together. It's the odd one out, for example. And this is just the example. If one of them brought an umbrella, an eye, an envelope, and a squirrel, which would be the odd one out?
Scotty Eisenoggle
Squirrel.
Elliot Kaelin
You got that right, George. It's the squirrel. Do you know why?
Scotty Eisenoggle
Because it's a mammal. Everything else is an object.
Elliot Kaelin
Yeah, I mean, that's true. Also, it's not the category we're going for. The others are all things that you can open. You can open an umbrella, an eye. You don't want to open a squirrel.
Ally Wentworth
Open a squirrel.
Elliot Kaelin
No, you don't want to do that. Don't go around opening up squirrels and with that grotesque concept in your heads. Are you ready to play this game of Odd one Out?
Ally Wentworth
Yes.
George Stephanopoulos
Odd one Out.
Elliot Kaelin
All right, let's begin then. Here's the first question. And this is just.
George Stephanopoulos
You're all.
Elliot Kaelin
You're working together on this. This is not a competitive game. The previous games that you were with together, it was couple versus couple. Now it's couple plus couple. Great.
Sean Hayes
Oh, this is going to be a lot.
Elliot Kaelin
Bringing their brains together to find the odd One out. So question number one. Nathan of Boyz II Men brought a tricycle, a bicycle, a car and a truck. Which of these items is the odd one out and why?
Scotty Eisenoggle
I know what it is.
Sean Hayes
What is it?
Scotty Eisenoggle
It's tricycle because it's an odd number of wheels. Everything else is an even number of wheels.
Elliot Kaelin
Oh, that's a very good answer. You know what? I'm going to give it to you. That's not the answer that we have, but I like that answer.
Scotty Eisenoggle
Sorry, I keep getting the right thing for the wrong reasons.
Elliot Kaelin
Technically, this was the wrong thing for the wrong reason, but I liked it. It worked out okay. The answer we were looking for was bicycle. The other vehicles are all freestanding. A bicycle cannot stand up on its own. Yes, I also put the kickstand, but the other one.
Scotty Eisenoggle
Well, they're both right. I mean, I would. See, I would take that.
George Stephanopoulos
If this was the sat. I would take that.
Elliot Kaelin
I'm giving it to you. I'm giving it to you. I'm giving it to you already. But I'm going to be a little bit stricter from now on. I'm going to be tougher from now on.
George Stephanopoulos
Fair enough. But George, you must have been fun to have in class in college. Go ahead, Elliot.
Elliot Kaelin
Question two. Wanya brought a windmill, a flower, a camera and a solar panel. Which is the odd one out and why?
Sean Hayes
Solar panel.
Elliot Kaelin
Yes. Windmill, flower, camera.
George Stephanopoulos
Solar camera is the odd man out. The camera because it's the only thing that can't stay outside.
Scotty Eisenoggle
Well, that's not the reason, but I think camera.
George Stephanopoulos
Well, don't tell me that's not the reason. That is my reason, George. You might have a different reason. It doesn't make mine wrong.
Elliot Kaelin
And you're all in the discussion phase still. You're still in the discussion phase. I'll wait till there's an official answer.
Ally Wentworth
Yeah, I think it's windmill because. Because these are things that need elements of the earth.
Sean Hayes
No, no, I know, go ahead.
Scotty Eisenoggle
Sorry, Scotty.
George Stephanopoulos
See what I'm saying? Do you see what kind of marriages we're in?
Scotty Eisenoggle
I'm going with you on your reason, but I think that's why it's camera. Everything else is affected by the elements, but go.
Ally Wentworth
Well, camera needs light to take a photograph. Flowers need light to live, and solar panels.
George Stephanopoulos
So the windmill is the odd man out. Oh, that's good.
Scotty Eisenoggle
I like that.
George Stephanopoulos
Windmill doesn't need light.
Ally Wentworth
Everything else needs wind.
Elliot Kaelin
Scotty, you were right. It is windmill for exactly that reason. The other objects all need light to function. Flowers, cameras, Solar panels. They need light. Windmills, they can work in the dark. As long as it's windy at night, a windmill can work. So excellent work.
George Stephanopoulos
Nice Scotty group.
Elliot Kaelin
Thank you for that. Good job, Scotty.
Ally Wentworth
Thank you.
Sean Hayes
Nice job.
Elliot Kaelin
Question number three. Sean Boyz II Men. Sean brought a grub, a door, a dam and a post. A grub, a door, a dam and a post. Okay.
Sean Hayes
What's a grub?
Elliot Kaelin
A grub. You know, like a slug. Like a little. Like a little baby bug.
Sean Hayes
Like a snail or something?
Elliot Kaelin
Yeah, like a little. A little smushy, not quite an insect yet.
Scotty Eisenoggle
Say them again. Grub.
Elliot Kaelin
A grub, a door, a dam and a post. And I'm gonna give you this hint. Think about the words, not necessarily the objects. Think about things that those words could have in common and not necessarily what those objects have in common.
Scotty Eisenoggle
Oh, so then damn, then. Damn is the only three letter word.
Ally Wentworth
Yeah, I agree.
Sean Hayes
Right, right. But that's too easy.
Elliot Kaelin
I'll tell you this.
Scotty Eisenoggle
But it's still correct.
Elliot Kaelin
I'll tell you this.
George Stephanopoulos
Oh, Jesus Christ, George. My God.
Elliot Kaelin
This is a man who never received an A minus, only A pluses because he's got a.
George Stephanopoulos
You can tell, right? You can tell.
Ally Wentworth
Cue finger snaps.
Elliot Kaelin
I will say this. I will say this. Damn is correct, but the reasoning is not. Can you tell me the reason that damn is the right answer? Why? From grub, door, dam and post. Dam is the odd one out.
George Stephanopoulos
Oh, oh, oh, wait a second. Everything else keeps things in and the dam lets things.
Sean Hayes
She just had. She just passed out.
George Stephanopoulos
She just passed. I'm really sorry. I took a Xanax and it's just kicking in. Wait, there's so many butterflies.
Elliot Kaelin
Would you like to know the reason why dam is the odd one out? Yes. Okay.
Scotty Eisenoggle
Well, the other reason why damn is the odd one out.
Elliot Kaelin
The other reason. The other reason, as opposed to George's very accurate cor. The right one. But it is for the correct reason that grub, door and post are all words in popular food delivery apps. Grubhub, door, dash, post, Damn. There's no food dam delivery app?
George Stephanopoulos
Not yet, Elliot. Not yet.
Elliot Kaelin
Until I go found.
Sean Hayes
Hey guys, what time are you going to be here? I just ordered from dam.
Elliot Kaelin
Going on to question number four. Casey brought Socks, a tulip, a skunk and gasoline. Socks, a tulip, a skunk and gasoline.
Sean Hayes
Well, socks smell. Gasoline smells.
Scotty Eisenoggle
And tulips don't smell.
George Stephanopoulos
Skunks smell. But tulips don't smell.
Sean Hayes
Tulips don't have a scent.
Scotty Eisenoggle
Tulips have no Scent. I would go with tulips, too.
George Stephanopoulos
Tulip.
Elliot Kaelin
Yeah, you're exactly right. For exactly that reason. It's tulips. Because it does not smell. And those other things smell.
Scotty Eisenoggle
My socks don't smell.
Sean Hayes
But yeah, I was gonna say I could add some things to that list, but yeah, yeah, yeah.
Elliot Kaelin
So, wait, George, are you now arguing that your answer is incorrect? What's going on here?
George Stephanopoulos
He'll fight anything just for fun.
Elliot Kaelin
It's just the argument that you're in it for. We've got one more question in this game before we get to our mega clue. The last question. JoJo brought a buffalo, an airplane, a theater and a pot. That's a buffalo, an airplane, a theater and a pot. Which is the odd one out and why?
Scotty Eisenoggle
Wow.
Sean Hayes
A buffalo.
George Stephanopoulos
What's the first one?
Elliot Kaelin
Buffalo.
George Stephanopoulos
A pot. A pot is the odd man out. It's the only thing you can't sit on or sit in or have a seat on.
Ally Wentworth
You sitting on buffaloes?
Sean Hayes
You could sit on a pot.
George Stephanopoulos
Have you ever ridden a buffalo?
Ally Wentworth
No.
George Stephanopoulos
Oh, you sit on the pot.
Sean Hayes
Yeah, you can sit on the pot.
Scotty Eisenoggle
Buffalo, airplane, theater and theater.
George Stephanopoulos
Well, I'm thinking with the airplane and the theater are places you could sit.
Sean Hayes
Yeah, that's not it.
George Stephanopoulos
No, you know what? It's the tone. It is the tone.
Ally Wentworth
Yes.
Sean Hayes
It's not what you say, it's how you say it.
Elliot Kaelin
There was that split second after you said that genre, I was like, ally's not gonna like that. That's the thought that went through my mind.
George Stephanopoulos
Yeah, we all thought that.
Scotty Eisenoggle
Buffalo, airplane, theater.
Sean Hayes
Theater and pot.
Ally Wentworth
I mean, the only obvious thing is buffalo. Cause it's the only living thing. Everything else is inanimate.
George Stephanopoulos
Oh, don't try that George Stephanopoulos thing. We already dealt with that with this world.
Scotty Eisenoggle
So he is right. It's probably for the wrong reasons.
Elliot Kaelin
It is the wrong answer and the wrong reason. But there's another alternate universe version of this episode where that is the right answer.
George Stephanopoulos
Fair enough.
Ally Wentworth
I don't have a beard in that one.
Elliot Kaelin
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
George Stephanopoulos
Buffalo is the odd man out. Why? Because you eat on a plane. You eat from a pot.
Elliot Kaelin
What, are you bringing food into the theater with you? Ally, that's not respectful of the performance.
George Stephanopoulos
Popcorn. Popcorn.
Scotty Eisenoggle
No, airplane. Airplane is the one.
George Stephanopoulos
Oh, okay. Overrider.
Elliot Kaelin
Why?
George Stephanopoulos
Because it's the only thing that can.
Scotty Eisenoggle
Stay in the sky.
Ally Wentworth
Oh, that's true. For the wrong reason.
Scotty Eisenoggle
For the wrong reason.
Elliot Kaelin
True thing. But the wrong one.
George Stephanopoulos
It's the only thing that can fly.
Scotty Eisenoggle
Did you say yes.
Elliot Kaelin
Would you like me to tell you the answer?
Ally Wentworth
Yes.
Elliot Kaelin
Keep going. The answer is the pot. And the reason is the others can all be types of wings. Buffalo wing, airplane wing and the theater wing.
Sean Hayes
The wings of the theater. Nice.
George Stephanopoulos
How? Food.
Elliot Kaelin
Food.
George Stephanopoulos
I knew it was food.
Elliot Kaelin
Yeah, food is involved in there somewhere up a mess of airplane wings with barbecue sauce on them. Yeah. I run out taking a look at the scores. Out of five potential points, you have three and a half points. Not bad. That's not bad. That's, you know, and. And once the class is over and then George can talk to the teacher about it and get that score back up.
George Stephanopoulos
You know.
Elliot Kaelin
That was a fair amount of odd. One outing you'd be forgiven for thinking you had outed your last odd. But you'd be wrong because you still have to answer our mega clue question.
Scotty Eisenoggle
Mega clue question.
Elliot Kaelin
For today's mega clue, I want you to tell me what all of the answers to today's game have in common. To remind you those answers were bicycle, windmill, dam, tulip and pot. I think I know, Scotty. You think you have it?
Ally Wentworth
I mean, I have one. There's a number of things on here that seem to relate together in this answer. Do I need to discuss or just say it?
Sean Hayes
Yeah, well.
Ally Wentworth
Well, things you find in Holland.
Elliot Kaelin
Yep. I'll give it to you. I was going to. I was looking specifically for Amsterdam, but Holland is great. Yeah, that was done.
Sean Hayes
Wow.
Elliot Kaelin
Bicycles, windmills, stands, tulips, pot. You get all those things there.
Sean Hayes
Wait, wait, where is pot?
Scotty Eisenoggle
Yeah, what's the pot?
Elliot Kaelin
The other. The other, you know, the other version of pot. The other version of pot.
Sean Hayes
Oh, pot.
Scotty Eisenoggle
Okay. Oh, that's pretty good.
Elliot Kaelin
Well, what I'm learning is that you all went to Amsterdam for the wrong reason. You were not taking full advantage of being in the capital of the Netherlands. Listeners at home, did you do as well as Sean and his guests? If so, you've made me so proud and you've justified all the money your mother and I spent on your education at puzzle college. But you haven't earned my love yet. There's still our cliffhanger puzzle. The most mysterious of all puzzles. The cliffhanger puzzle is like an encore performance for your brain. And today's cliffhanger is yet another odd one out question, only this time with a surprisingly low level of Boyz II Men Content. The puzzle goes, which of these does not belong? Sean Hayes, Scotty Eisnogle, a hippo, a praying mantis and a mule.
George Stephanopoulos
They all go along perfectly.
Elliot Kaelin
Which one does not belong? One of them for the purposes of this question, does it Chow Hayes, Scotty Icenoggle, a hippo, a praying mantis and a mule.
Sean Hayes
Ally's like, well, I heard the question is, what makes them go together so well?
George Stephanopoulos
Yeah, yeah. And I have a monologue. Yeah.
Elliot Kaelin
Well, we'll find out which thing actually doesn't belong next episode because that's the end of today's episode. But although we've come to the end of the road, still I can't let go. More boys to moan. I have to take a moment. I just have to take a moment to thank Ali Wentworth, George Stepanoff. Thank you.
Ally Wentworth
Oh, my gosh, thank you.
Elliot Kaelin
Thank you for not just being the best, but also the most guests that we've ever had. And of course, I'd like to thank Sean Hayes for being the same amount of Sean Hayes that he always is, which is enough.
Sean Hayes
Yeah.
Elliot Kaelin
Believe me, it's a lot. It's a lot.
Sean Hayes
Try living with it.
Elliot Kaelin

SmartLess Presents ClueLess: Episode 129 - "Odd One Out" Featuring Scotty Icenogle, Ali Wentworth, and George Stephanopoulos
Release Date: February 20, 2025
In Episode 129 of SmartLess Presents ClueLess, host Elliott Kalan teams up with his regular contestant Sean Hayes and special guests Scotty Icenogle, Ali Wentworth, and George Stephanopoulos for a captivating session of puzzles and brainteasers centered around the theme "Odd One Out." This episode not only challenges their quick-thinking abilities but also showcases the delightful camaraderie among the participants.
Elliott Kalan opens the episode by revisiting the cliffhanger from the last installment. He presents a puzzle that required reversing the first and last three letters of a six-letter wafer-based treat to reveal a minty alternative.
Scotty Icenogle swiftly deciphers the puzzle:
The group applauds Scotty's quick reasoning, humorously noting his supermarket expertise. Sean Hayes jokes about jotting down the answer, emphasizing the playful atmosphere of the show.
Transitioning seamlessly, Elliott introduces the day's primary challenge—a series of "Odd One Out" puzzles themed around Boyz II Men, the iconic Philly-based band renowned for their use of Roman numerals. The scenario revolves around the band’s tour bus being too cramped, forcing each member and their friends Casey and Jojo to eliminate one item from their belongings to create cohesive categories.
Nathan’s Items: Tricycle, Bicycle, Car, Truck
Despite Scotty’s accurate reasoning, Elliott reveals the intended answer was "bicycle" because it's the only freestanding vehicle.
Wanya’s Items: Windmill, Flower, Camera, Solar Panel
Scotty correctly identifies "windmill" as it doesn't require light to function, unlike the other objects.
Sean’s Items: Grub, Door, Dam, Post
The conversation becomes lively as participants debate:
Elliott confirms this clever connection, linking "Grubhub," "DoorDash," and "Postmates," while noting the absence of a "Dam" delivery app.
Casey’s Items: Socks, Tulip, Skunk, Gasoline
The group concurs, recognizing that while socks, skunks, and gasoline emit smells, tulips do not.
JoJo’s Items: Buffalo, Airplane, Theater, Pot
After humorous exchanges and multiple interpretations, Elliott unveils:
With the individual answers—bicycle, windmill, dam, tulip, and pot—participants are prompted to find a common thread.
Elliott concurs, highlighting that all items are quintessentially associated with the Netherlands, particularly Amsterdam, known for its bicycles, windmills, tulips, and iconic pottery.
As the episode nears its end, Elliott presents a tantalizing cliffhanger to entice listeners for the next episode:
The participants engage in animated speculation, but the solution remains undisclosed, promising an engaging reveal in the subsequent episode.
Elliott wraps up the episode by expressing gratitude to guests Ali Wentworth and George Stephanopoulos for their exceptional participation, commending their puzzle-solving prowess and entertaining banter.
Sean Hayes humorously remarks on the consistency of his persona, adding to the light-hearted conclusion.
Elliott humorously reminds listeners to ponder the cliffhanger puzzle until next time, ensuring anticipation for future episodes.
Notable Quotes:
Elliott Kalan [02:19]: "Take the six letter name of a popular wafer based treat..."
Scotty Icenogle [04:59]: "It's tricycle because it's an odd number of wheels..."
