Adobe Firefly Clueless Greetings Clueless listeners. While our host Elliott is busy this week judging the results of the international championship tractor pull in Belgium, the world's heaviest motorsport, it is I, the Bot, here once again to host a repeat performance. In this episode, Elliott is joined one last time by comedians Naomi Ekparigan and Andy Beckerman, who also host the podcast Couples Therapy. Today they'll compete in one of our most relaxing games, the Sortum Consortium, where Elliot gives you the answers right away and you simply have to sort them into the right order. This time, the subject is colors. Color me excited. It's Clueless.

Folks, I don't want to brag, but I know all about the ships of the land cars. I know how many wheels they have. More than you might think. How many people you need to properly drive? 1 fewer than previously thought. And I know that the famous boy band the Backstreet Boys got their name from the fact that they will not drive on highways. Now, that's technically not true, but that made up fact reminds me of today's opening question. If the boys leave their concert headed north, but then make six left turns, three right turns, a U turn and three more lefts, which direction are they headed? You'll have to listen to find out. This is Clueless. Clueless,
Love's Rewards Announcer
Clueless.
Elliot Kaelin
I'm Clueless.
Welcome to Smartless Presents Clueless, the world's greatest puzzle podcast called Smartless Presents Clueless. I'm your host Elliot Kaelin, author of the new book Joke how to Write Comedy and Other Nonsense on bookstore shelves now. And and I also am the winner of the host Clueless sweepstakes. I'm so excited about it. I can't believe I won. Joining us today once again are the best guests we've ever had. If our previous guests aren't listening right now, comedy stars Naomi Ekberrigan and Andy Beckerman. Thank you so much for joining us.
Naomi Ekparigan
Thank you so much for having me.
Elliot Kaelin
It's my pleasure. I noticed that your husband has become a Coyote, I guess, which is why you'll be the one answering the questions today. Thank you for being here. And I wouldn't be doing my due diligence if I didn't ask if you knew the answer to today's opening question. So the Backstreet Boys, they leave their concert headed north. They make six left turns, three right turns, a U turn, and three more left turns. Which direction are they now headed in?
Naomi Ekparigan
The way I checked out after six left turns is you said it. And you know, the second time I'm hearing it, I have no idea. Couldn't tell you if I was actually driving a car either. So I am really leaving this up to Andy Beckerman, who can attest that my sense of direction is atrocious.
Andy Beckerman
If I've done the math correctly, the answer should be my favorite Rob Reiner movie, north.
Elliot Kaelin
You are correct with the answer. Your taste in Rob Reiner movies is questionable, but you're right.
Andy Beckerman
The answer is better one.
Elliot Kaelin
This is Spinal Tap. That the answer.
Andy Beckerman
Wait, he did that? I thought he only did North.
Elliot Kaelin
No, no, you only thought he did the one movie. That makes sense. And that makes sense. The answer is north. Because it's always a trick question. Always. Listeners at home, did you get the answer? If so, give yourself a pat on the back or if you're a puppy dog, a rub on the belly. Wow. Andy. Showing me he did the math. Wow. Amazing. Now we're going to quit playing games with my heart. But that doesn't mean we're done playing games with the Backstreet Boys. Apparently, they're headed to the rest of the stops on their tour. All of their tour stops share a name with another notable city. Can you figure out which city they're traveling to next? For example, I would tell you this clue. This city in northwest Texas is home to a replica Eiffel Tower adorned with a cowboy hat. What city is it? What city is it?
Naomi Ekparigan
Paris, Texas.
Elliot Kaelin
Exactly. The answer is Paris, Texas, because the Back Streeters are huge fans of the films of Wimwenders. And let me stop right there to ask you, how many other puzzle podcasts give you references to boy bands and German New wave filmmakers. None. Just this one. So you already got it. Each city will share its name with another city in the world. Are you ready to play the game?
Andy Beckerman
Yes.
Elliot Kaelin
I'm clueless.
Okay. You can find a great pyramid in this Tennessee city. But instead of a cursed mummy, it contains a Bass Pro shop. Also cursed.
Andy Beckerman
I want to say Cairo.
Naomi Ekparigan
Cairo, Tennessee.
Andy Beckerman
I can't think of any other city in. In Egypt at the moment.
Naomi Ekparigan
I think it's wrong. But I also can't think of another
Elliot Kaelin
because I was going to say you're the gatekeeper on this one, Naomi. Are you going to allow that question?
Naomi Ekparigan
I don't support it.
Elliot Kaelin
Allow it.
Andy Beckerman
Stargate. Stargate, Tennessee.
Elliot Kaelin
No. The answer is Memphis, Tennessee. Memphis, Tennessee. Memphis is also a city in Egypt. Yes. Or was an ancient city.
Andy Beckerman
So do you know what else? Denial is also a river in Egypt. Elliot.
Elliot Kaelin
Okay, it's not. It is. I didn't say it wasn't. I just said it's not just that. Yeah. Question number two. This year, when you get the home of the University of Georgia may not have Socrates or Necropolis, but it does have Michael Stipe and Rem. What city is it?
Andy Beckerman
And elephant six. Athens, baby.
Elliot Kaelin
You got that right. It's Athens, Georgia. Question number three. This Oregon locale was almost named after Boston, Massachusetts, until its founder won a coin toss to name it for his hometown in Maine. What is this Oregon City?
Naomi Ekparigan
Oh, I'm going to say Portland.
Elliot Kaelin
Very good. It is Portland, Oregon, named after Portland, Maine.
Naomi Ekparigan
That's crazy. Actually, they did that.
Elliot Kaelin
I mean, they're also both port places, you know, so it wasn't. It wasn't like too. Not like Memphis, where they're like, yeah, this place reminds me of ancient Egypt. Sure. The next city is in Florida. Shares its name with a Russian metropolis that used to be called Leningrad. But Florida city shares its name with a Russian metropolis that used to be called Leningrad.
Andy Beckerman
Stalin crab.
Naomi Ekparigan
Oh, yes. St. Petersburg.
Elliot Kaelin
Very good. St. Petersburg, Florida. It was St. Petersburg, then it was Leningrad, then it was St. Petersburg, Florida. That's St. Petersburg.
Liberty Mutual Announcer
Again.
Elliot Kaelin
Question number five. This city in South Carolina shares a name with the capital of West Virginia. And with a dance I had to learn during my Jay Gatsby phase. You remember it when I dressed like. Like I was Jay Gatsby all the time.
Naomi Ekparigan
Okay, your Jay Gatsby phase.
Andy Beckerman
Yes.
Naomi Ekparigan
The Charleston.
Elliot Kaelin
Very good. Charleston, South Carolina. You did great. You got four out of five questions with that one. And maybe Cairo, Tennessee is a place.
Naomi Ekparigan
Don't even say it again. The way I could crumble into a Ball and D
Elliot Kaelin
don't crumble into a ball yet because you've still got a mega clue. Mega clue question. So the Backstreet Boys need our help one final time. They really should hire a road manager instead of outsourcing this sort of thing to a podcast. They want to make sure that when they hit the road, they only travel from the west to the east. So we want to put their tour stops in order from west to east. And those stops are again, Memphis, Tennessee, Athens, Georgia, Portland, Oregon, St. Petersburg, Florida, and Charleston, South Carolina. Can you put an order from west to east Memphis?
Andy Beckerman
Athens, Portland, Charleston, and St. Petersburg. And St. Petersburg.
Naomi Ekparigan
Oh, I thought you were saying the order. I said what I was like, girl,
Andy Beckerman
okay, we're going west to east. Obviously we're starting with St. Petersburg.
Naomi Ekparigan
That's why I was so confused. I was so scared after Cairo that
Andy Beckerman
I was like, we'll never come back from this Stalingrad. Oh, God.
Naomi Ekparigan
Okay, so west to east Portland.
Andy Beckerman
Yes, obviously.
Naomi Ekparigan
And then Memphis.
Andy Beckerman
It's Memphis or Athens.
Naomi Ekparigan
I know it's mad. This is where I get confused. Like Portland, Memphis, Athens, Charleston.
Andy Beckerman
St. Petersburg or St. Petersburg. Charleston, I think, because, Charles, because South Carolina is over farther than I think. I'll give it to you.
Elliot Kaelin
I'm giving it to you for the teamwork. Portland, Memphis, Athens, St. Petersburg, and then Charleston. You have both provided for each other what each was lacking. And that's the true meaning of a marriage. And so I'm very proud of both of you for that one.
Naomi Ekparigan
We did so much.
Andy Beckerman
I'll say this, we ordered those five from west to east in our vows. So it was just like you just had to recall from a couple years ago.
Naomi Ekparigan
I see.

Listeners, are you Ready for more U.S. geography action? If so, I apologize. Our next game has none of that. It's called Sordum Consortium.
Devin Tory Bryant
Well, it's the Sorghum Sordum Consortium. Put them in order. Won't you take my bike? Sorghum, Sorghum zero, one, two, three, four and five.
Elliot Kaelin
Get along there. Another great song. This is the game where I give you the answers ahead of time and you have to figure out what questions they go to. And the answers are this. Usually in sort of consortium, they're numbers. This time they're going to be colors. Write down these answers. Red, blue, orange, yellow, green and purple. Now, I'm going to go through a series of clues and I want you to match each of those answers to one clue and only one clue. So you are sorting them by color, I guess. Yeah. Usually it's by number.
Andy Beckerman
We have to match. I've never heard of a game show. I've never heard of a game show. Do that. Where you have to, like, then say the question.
Elliot Kaelin
I. Well, no, I'm gonna say the why. I oughta. Andy is of course referring to the game show Jeopardy, which I don't know if he knows is a sore spot for me since during my one contested appearance on it, I came in second. I did not win that game. So.
Andy Beckerman
No, I'm sorry. Have you ever been on Emily Heller's podcast?
Elliot Kaelin
No, I haven't.
Andy Beckerman
You should.
Elliot Kaelin
I should do that. Is that the Is that the I lost on Jeopardy?
Naomi Ekparigan
No, it is. What is a Jeopardy. Podcast.
Elliot Kaelin
Oh, okay, there you go.
Naomi Ekparigan
But honestly, we shouldn't be promoting other things. If it's not couples therapy, I don't want to hear about it.
Elliot Kaelin
No, no. We should only be. Only be promoting your podcast and my book, Joke Farming, how to Write Comedy and other Nonsense on bookstore. Bookstore shelves now. So I'm going to give you clues, and I want you to say which color matches that clue. You cannot use any of the colors twice. Okay. You can only use them once each time.
Naomi Ekparigan
Okay.
Devin Tory Bryant
Sordum.
Elliot Kaelin
Sord. Here are the clues.
Naomi Ekparigan
Okay.
Elliot Kaelin
The traditional color of Islam, the most common color on national flags, a dye that could only be produced by sea snails until the 1800s, a color used by the maritime industry to make objects at sea stand out, a word that does not exist in ancient Greek, and a weakness for at least one DC superhero. So I want you to attach the colors. And again, the colors are red, blue, orange, yellow, green, and purple. Can you attach which colors to which clues? Which ones jump out at you right away?
Andy Beckerman
Well, you know, I'm the most intelligent because the first one I went to was DC superhero, and I thought, so here. But here's. Here's where we get into, you know, is it green for kryptonite for Superman, or is it. Isn't there something in the spectrum that Green Lantern can't deal with? I can't remember. I'm not a. Not a huge D.C. head.
Elliot Kaelin
Well, you are halfway right, because we are looking for the Green Lantern one. That is the color that we're looking for, not an object. So there is a color that the Green Lanterns, until recently, I think they faked that flaw in the ring eventually. There's a color that traditionally Green Lanterns cannot handle. What color is it?
Naomi Ekparigan
Is it yellow?
Andy Beckerman
Is it yellow because they're coward? Because they can't abide being a coward?
Elliot Kaelin
It is yellow, but not for that reason. So you know that yellow goes to number six, a weakness for. For the Green Lantern. Which other ones? So what. What other clues do you think might go with. With what other colors?
Naomi Ekparigan
Okay, so we're gonna say the color on flags is red.
Elliot Kaelin
Yes.
Naomi Ekparigan
People love that.
Elliot Kaelin
They love the color red. That's why it's also on so many cereal boxes.
Andy Beckerman
Yeah, because it angers up. It angers up all the people that live there. They see their flag and they're like, ah, we gotta fight.
Elliot Kaelin
Well, a lot of people don't realize that flag, national flags were originally only used for bull fighting. So that's why a lot of them have red on them.
Naomi Ekparigan
Yes, that's very smart. That's very smart. Accurate, accurate. Elliot. Caitlyn. No questions. Follow up. To follow up. And then you said dye that up until recently could only be made by
Elliot Kaelin
snails until the 1800s. This color only produced by sea snails. The dye of this color, I will say also. In addition, here's an extra clue. That's one of the reasons that this dye was limited to a very specific sort of person in many European cultures up until the blue.
Andy Beckerman
It's got to be blue royalty, right? Oh, purple. Duh. Purple royalty.
Elliot Kaelin
Yes, purple. Thank you.
Andy Beckerman
Sorry, I was thinking. Hold on. I was thinking blue bloods and. No, I'm not talking about. I'm not talking about the hit CBS cop show filmed in Greenpoint.
Naomi Ekparigan
Oh, my God, you're right.
Elliot Kaelin
Purple was a dye that could only be produced by sea snails in the late 1800s. It was very hard to make. Okay, so you've only got three clues left. Those clues are the traditional color of Islam used by the maritime industry to make objects at sea stand out, and a word that doesn't exist in ancient Greek.
Andy Beckerman
Oh, well, obviously, if you want something to stand out in the sea, it's gonna be blue. So that. That's the obvious answer to the maritime. So orange. I mean, that's. Is that. Aren't buoys orange?
Elliot Kaelin
Yes, orange. Orange, the classic color of safety.
Naomi Ekparigan
I said that is. That was a color that you wouldn't have in ancient whatever you had said. Greece am stroking out. I don't know.
Andy Beckerman
No, no, because I was thinking, look, this, Naomi, I'm 100% with you, my dear, because in my brain, it went, well, orange doesn't rhyme with anything. So that's probably the Greek answer. There's no connection. That. That makes absolutely no sense.
Elliot Kaelin
I will also mention also because that orange was not the word for the color orange in Greek, you know, that's. They weren't so true. So maybe the Greek word orange rhymes. Lobster. Ooh.
Andy Beckerman
Yes. It was probably something with the A S T o s or something green. So Islam. I want to say green and. No Greek blue.
Elliot Kaelin
You are correct. Green is the traditional color of Islam. And blue. That's the one I didn't know. That was a surprise to me. But by order of elimination, it must be blue. So you did great. You got them all right. You thought them all free. You sorted them. Sortium.
Andy Beckerman
Get along there.
Elliot Kaelin
Now, we've been through all the colors of the rainbow except one. The color. Mega clue. Mega clue. Question for Today's mega clue, we'll be sorting those same answers not as facts, but as opinions. In 2015. YouGov.com I don't know if it's YouGov.com or whatever. Anyway, in 2015, the YouGov organization asked Americans what their favorite color is. Can you rank these six colors from most to least popular?
Andy Beckerman
So, Naomi, what's. What's the most hated color? Do you think people don't like green? Right. We're destroying the environment.
Naomi Ekparigan
I know. I think people. If you're going to say your favorite, I feel like orange is at the bottom. No one's checking for orange.
Andy Beckerman
I'm with you. I think blue. What do we say? Blue on top? Yeah, blue on top, orange on bottom. So if people don't like orange, they're not going to like yellow. Yellow's gonna go above orange and then red above that.
Naomi Ekparigan
I put red actually after blue.
Andy Beckerman
Okay.
Naomi Ekparigan
Okay. I think I'm gonna put patriots. So I think. Okay. It would go in order of most to least would be blue, red, purple, green, yellow, orange.
Elliot Kaelin
Is that the order that you would also like to sign off on? Andy?
Andy Beckerman
Hey. Hey, Elliot. There's one thing they teach you at marriage school. It's. It's you don't. You don't go against your wife.
Elliot Kaelin
I'm so glad you went to that Staten island marriage school. You are so close. You're almost right. You said blue, red, purple, green, yellow, orange. The answer is blue, green, purple, red, yellow, orange. You swapped red and green. Unfortunately, people like green more than red.
Naomi Ekparigan
I think interesting.
Elliot Kaelin
Blue, green, purple. I think those are more soothing colors. I think that's why I'm choosing. I mean, blue is objectively the best color.
Naomi Ekparigan
It's a great course. We all do that.
Elliot Kaelin
We all love blue and red, yellow, orange, those colors, they get people at best excited, at worst, aggravated. Blue.
Andy Beckerman
I don't know why. I don't know why, but I'm really hungry for a bowl of Lucky charms right now. I can't figure it out.
Elliot Kaelin
Blue. For anyone interested in the numbers, blue was the runaway favorite. 31% of Americans said they liked blue. Orange and yellow are super unpopular at 3% and 4% that they actually weren't even the bottom colors in the survey. Black and pink were both more popular colors than orange and yellow. And we didn't even. They just weren't part of the game. That's the only reason they didn't get brought up here.
Andy Beckerman
Is that a K pop band, black
Elliot Kaelin
and pink or orange and yellow? They both are probably. So you did great in that game. You got. I'm gonna give you. I'm gonna give you a 3/4 for the mega clue. You did great, listeners. Did you do as well as our guests? If not, that's okay. Winning is overrated. Just like being rich, beautiful or clean. Unfortunately, that's all the clueless we have for you today.
