Hey, this is Sarah. Look, I'm standing out front of a.m. p.m.
B
Right now and, well, you're sweet and.
A
All, but I found something more fulfilling.
B
Even kind of cheesy.
A
But I like it. Sure, you met some of my dietary needs, but they've just got it all. So farewell oatmeal. So long, you strange soggy.
C
Break up with bland breakfast and taste AM PM's bacon, egg and cheese biscuit made with K tree eggs, smoked bacon and melty cheese on a buttery biscuit. AM PM Too much good stuff.
A
Every now and then I rinse it out and I need jammy rinse tonight.
C
And I need it more.
B
My kid was so bad and the smell never leaves.
A
I don't know what to do. I'm always in the dark. The sweat and dance short smells like a dark, dark.
C
Downy rinse fights stubborn.
A
Odors in just one wash. When impossible odors get stuck in house. If I was a super, super powerful celebrity in my writer, it wouldn't be expensive things. It would be like weird. Like I would get weird with it where it's like, oh, I need, I need like a drawing that you drew from when you were a child for someone. Someone needs to, to put like or like a child's drawing. Something that's like, wait, what?
B
Like I want a dog that can paint in my. In, in my room with me.
A
Something like obscure like that, that it's just like, oh, okay. Like I need a. I need a musical instrument that you own. Yeah, like I'm asking for something from you.
C
You're looking. You're asking for which ingredients? Yes. You're like, I need a true love's first kiss. A butterfly's thoughts.
A
I need you to let a wild pigeon loose in my room.
B
A wake up call from your mom.
A
Oh, I would love that. I need a phone call from your mom.
C
Yeah, like that's if it's Tommy's mom, I can just turn over.
B
That rocks, dude.
C
That rocks, dude.
B
You got a high five for that? That rocks, dude. That rocks, dude. That was awesome.
C
We gotta add that in the episode.
B
That rocks, dude.
A
Oh, all right.
C
In the episode.
B
That's awesome. That's awesome.
A
Okay.
B
Okay.
C
Well, all right. Okay.
A
Hi, welcome to Smashroth.
C
I'm Shane and I'm forgot I'm hosting. And I'm Damian Haas. And joining us today is our very special guest, Tommy.
B
Hey, I'm here too.
C
Do they say their names?
A
I feel like this is Amanda says their names.
C
Okay, let me be like Amanda.
B
Yeah, be like Amanda.
C
Ow, ow. It's like a character she's doing now.
A
Yeah.
C
Like, hi, I'm Damian Hosley Handcanto. And joining us today is Tommy Bo.
B
That's me. Thank you. Amanda leehancanto. Damien Haas. Oh, no.
A
We. So when we realized this episode was happening.
B
Yep.
A
We got very excited because we realized all three of us share a common interest and that this episode today is going to be our only opportunity for us to delve into a topic we oddly don't delve into much at Smosh.
C
Given that we started with an entire channel off of that.
A
Well, the power is the foundation of. It's the only reason that it's the.
C
Rock upon which our church was built.
B
Exactly. Hallelujah.
A
And then there's Pokemon.
B
Right. Woo.
C
Check out this Ghastly on my sweater, people at home.
A
There's a ghastly on sweater, listeners. Yeah. And Tommy has an unknown sweater that.
B
I forgot to bring because there's a lot of stuff going on.
A
It's okay.
B
Yeah.
A
I don't own any Pokemon clothing.
C
We'll change that.
B
We can change that.
C
I got a couple extra shirts in the wardrobe right now. I got an oddish shirt.
B
That's great.
C
And I got a.
A
How many Pokemon themed clothing items do you think you own?
C
I think it's just these three that I brought.
A
Okay. I'm probably pronouncing so many Pokemon wrong.
B
Oh, same.
C
You know what I think has its own, like, the official pronunciation feels like it's wrong. Deli Bird, the one that looks like Santi Santa. Because it gives you gifts and it looks like Santa. I think it should be delivered.
A
I think that's the point.
C
But it is delibird, though.
B
Deli Bird. Like cold cuts.
C
Yeah.
B
That's not okay.
A
No, I. I have a hard time with the. We're getting into it. I have a hard time with the Pokemon that are just named like a thing. Like. Like, it's like Scyther and it's like, oh. And then it evolves into Scissor.
C
It's.
A
I know. Okay. Caesar, Milan. No, it's Scissor. I was. Because I was going through the Pokedex last night and I was just like, holy shit. One. So many.
B
But two, I was like.
A
I was like, man, some of these names I like. You don't like, really think about them too much.
B
No, not really.
A
And then you see it and you're like, oh, that's Scissor, yo. That's delivered.
C
Did you not.
A
And I laughed out loud reading delivered. Where I'm just like, oh, it's just like, oh, deliver.
C
My package was delivered.
A
Yeah, yeah.
C
Hound. Hound Hour kills me because I was always like, oh, Hound Door and Hound.
B
Doom.
C
No, it's Houndour.
B
It's like the hour of the day.
C
Like, you're feeling dour. Like it's a dour moon.
B
And then there's a Doom, and then there's Seal.
A
And then there's Seal.
C
It's Seattle. No, I'm kidding. Seattle. It's Seattle. Okay.
A
We all love Pokemon here.
B
Yes, Very much.
A
When did all of our Pokemon love begin? What was your. Do you remember your moment that you got into Pokemon? Because for all of us, probably a.
C
Long time ago, second grade, they. They had those Game Boy commercials where like, a bunch of Pokemon pop up and then like, somebody vacuums them up and they're like. And I was like, oh, whatever this game is, it looks fun. I want that, I think. And then I was sitting in the library, second grade and looking at the back of a magazine. There was like, a Pokemon advertisement with, like, a little comic attached to. And I was like, oh, there's more to this. And my best friend at the time was like, oh, yeah, me and other best friend, like, we've. We've been watching this for a while. I was like, wait, what TV show? What do you mean? And it was that moment that I learned all about it, like, all at once. And then I was just all in.
A
Wow.
C
Cards game right off the bat.
B
Yeah. I don't remember what grade I did. I. I remember what single grade I went to school for, but whatever grade I was in school for, I think I got a Game Boy for Pokemon. I don't have the memory of, like, being like, oh, I want this.
A
Yeah.
B
But my parents were good at, like, gift. I'm an only child, so I got spoiled with, like, the gift giving of it all when I was younger. Thank you. So I remember playing the original Pokemon and kind of being alone in that. And it wasn't until Gen 2 when more people started playing, specifically when I got to crystal, because I think I had gold and silver, and I started playing that. And then I don't think my parents knew that they were different or that they were basically the same game over and over. So they were just like, okay, there's another one. Wow. Geez. All right, so I got crystal. And you know, the crystal has, like, two frames of animation. I remember being like, yes. And then from then on, I was like, fully locked in, like, hardcore. But I. I remember still having, like, the, like, the. They used to have, like, you Know booklets on how to beat a game?
C
Yes, yeah, exactly. Official strategy guide or whatever.
B
The official strategy guide before the Internet was really a thing. And I remember just like reading it like it's a book. Looking at the art and just being like, wow, this is the coolest thing.
C
Like, can I bring my Game Boy in the car? No. Can I bring this book? Yes.
A
And then you just basically have it. I remember we had the one for Pokemon Red and I think we still have it. Like it was like years, you know, like how decades will pass and you go to your parents house and then you'll like find a relic. And it's like, oh right, my parents don't throw anything out. So I found this thing. Thing?
C
Hell yeah.
A
In a. In a drawer. Like somewhere that's just not been looked at for so long.
B
Amazing.
A
Like it's clear. Yeah.
C
But I'm like, oh, move home.
A
I'm pretty sure I still have it. Wow, you should find Pokemon Red thing. Cuz I think I just, I'm never going to throw it out. Whenever I see it I'm like, this is so cool. And then I just like put it away.
B
Put it right back.
A
Yeah, I know. I have, I think I have all my Pokemon, my Game Boy games. Actually. My brother might have them.
C
I know I sold those two to a friend like when I was in like fifth grade. Because I was like, oh, I've moved on to like the new ones.
B
Made a sale in fifth grade.
C
Yeah, well, I was like, I want money for this other video game. And my friend wanted to buy them for like $20 each. I was like, yeah, sure, wow. But I do remember, speaking of those little booklets, the one that came in the game with the Game Boy game, the perfect little square. I was looking at like the typing matchups and it was the first time I'd ever like seen or read the word psychic. And I didn't know what it was. And so I asked my parents like while I was. I remember being in the car and being like, what is pissy chicken? And they got mad at me. They were like, Damien, you know what you're saying? Like don't. You know, don't do that. I don't. I really don't. But now I do.
A
And you've learned.
C
I've seen the Damien is Pissy Chick compilations.
A
I think for me, I. I honestly think it was. My brother was getting into it and I think I heard about it because I overheard my mom being nervous about the. The episode of Pokemon with Porygon that was apparently, seizures, seizure episode.
B
Yes.
A
Flashing lights. So it was like. It was my mom being like, oh, is that safe? Like, I don't know if, like, whatever. And then overhearing about it being like, what's this thing about, like. And then, like, I forget. I think I got into the cards first because it was in second grade and my. Some friends were, like, really into it, and I started getting into it, and then we went to a store. We all bought a pack of cards.
C
Nice.
A
And I got my first pack of cards. And I was like, this is so cool. And I opened it, and I'll talk about my favorite Pokemon later. But one of them, because it's my first holographic, was Pincer. And I never, ever got another Pincer.
C
So you started off with Jungle.
A
Yes.
B
Yep.
A
Yes. That was my very first job of the Jungle. I remember the ancient packs, too.
B
Yeah. Yeah.
A
But the Jungle ones were my first. And, yeah, Pincer was my very first one. And like I said, I never got another Pincer.
B
Wow.
A
And I collected Pokemon cards for a couple years there, and I had almost the original. All of the 151.
B
Right, nice.
A
But. But then I got. My brother was playing the games, and I didn't get to play Red because that was his.
B
Nice.
A
And so he had the Game Boy, and I couldn't borrow it or play it. And I think once he was done playing that and yellow, and he would, like, show me. And I was like, it's so cool. He's like, yeah, I see how Pikachu follows you around. I'm like, that's the coolest thing I've ever seen in my life. He literally loves you. I really want to play it. He's like, I can't. I'm like.
C
And now you understand AI generated like, like, girlfriends or whatever out in the real world. Or you're like, well, that Pikachu loved me, so I kind of get it.
A
Yeah. But I eventually got to play yellow for a bit, and then Silver was the first. That was mine.
C
Nice.
A
And I played silver, and that was big at our school because a lot of my friends had gold, so I had silver.
C
I remember you and I always, like, swapped back and forth in stories. So, like, I was. I was a blue to Yellow to Gold man myself.
A
And then Ruby's also.
C
I. I fell off by that, Jen.
B
Oh. I was. I was blue, yellow, gold, crystal.
C
Yeah.
B
And sapphire. And then I played diamond and pearl. And then.
C
Nice.
B
At one point, I was. This was the same time that I was the stage manager for Seussical The Musical Junior at a theater in. During summer. And so I was, like, playing this game, and I had, like, a Jirachi, which you could only get through, like, a special event thing or, like, buying a game. I had all guys all the way, like, you know, traded all the way up to this game. And I was playing the game, and I'm like, this is kind of. I'm kind of over this, to be honest.
C
Oh, is that your like.
B
And so I was just kind of.
C
Like, dopamine run out.
B
Yeah. And then there was this little kid who would always be like, hello, can.
C
We trade Pokemon please? Can we?
B
And so. And he was. So at one point, I just went, you know what? Here's my game. I was just like, here you go. Stop talking to me.
C
Oh, you set him up with a bad precedent for life.
B
I know, but he stopped talking to me, and I was done with the game anyway. So I was just like, well, but the only thing I do miss is having that Jirachi, because he was pretty cool.
C
Yeah.
B
Wish granner guy. He was pretty cool. Anyway, do you know who Jirachi is?
A
No.
B
His little guy's got yellow. He's got a bing bong.
C
Bing kind of like star kind of.
B
Yeah. And he's got little. The little things on it. And he's. Yeah. Anyway, he's just a little guy. He's got a little half moon on his tummy, which I think opens up to an eye. It's.
C
It's one of those, like. It's one of those things where, like. Oh, you know, in the first 150, there's a legend that, like, there might be a Mew for 151, and there's all these ways to get it. And then in the second generation, they were like, what if we do that again? Except now it's grass, but it's like the same damn thing. And then they're like, we got to keep doing this. Play it again, Sam. And they're like, yeah, it's Jirachi now. And it's like. And now modern day, we're like, we have Victini.
B
Like, okay, you got it.
A
I know it.
C
But yeah, all the psychic, mythical ones that are all just a little guy.
A
I kind of never cared that much about the big legendary ones, except for Mewtwo. Mewtwo's, of course.
B
Of course.
A
And, you know, obviously. Okay, how do you. Is it. It's Lugia.
B
Lugia.
C
I think so.
B
Okay, it's Lugia.
A
Yeah, I got Lugia. But, like, overall, yeah, I got Lugia Yeah, I got a. I got a.
C
Huge Lugia of those.
A
I hawked a lug.
C
Terrible name, by the way.
A
Yeah, yeah. I was like, what's going on there?
B
Do you know the origin of Lugia, by the way?
A
No, I don't.
C
The name or.
B
No, the creation of him entirely. The guy they were. The guy. One of the Pokemon people was tasked to make a follow up movie to that first movie.
A
Right.
B
And so he came up with and designed Lugia for this movie and basically got approval after he was done. And he's later said the whole time he was like, I was doing so many drugs. I was drunk the whole time.
C
Sure.
B
And so Lugia is a creation from a stupor of drugs and alcohol. That Pokemon just went, okay. And then the guy literally was like. I was actually really surprised to see him as the box art for the next generation because I just made him up for this movie. So it's like the Pokemon company just went, yeah, sure, we'll use him. And they're like, I'm gonna use that other bird we did last time and we teased.
C
So he's the Stephen King of the Pokemon world. Yeah, I remember writing that. I was too effed up.
A
Hey, enjoy it.
C
That's crazy.
B
I've seen all the do you know gaming Pokemon videos. Every single one I've watched.
C
I do watch a lot of those, but not quite your level.
B
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
C
What's that sound?
B
That's the sound of Downy Unstoppable scent beads going into your washing machine and.
C
Giving your clothes freshness that lasts all day long.
B
There it is again.
C
It's like music to your ears. Or more like music to your nose. That freshness is irresistible. Let's get a Downy Unstoppables bottle shake. And now a sniff solo.
B
Nice.
C
With Downy Unstoppable, you just toss wash. Wow.
B
For all day Freshness Gain Super Flings.

C

B

A
Times the of Febreze.
B

It's still wild to think back on because I remember when I was a little kid and there's that one of those early episodes of Pokemon where ho.
C
Oh, it's like the first.
A
It's like the first episode of Pokemon where this.
B
Because they were already starting on the second.
A
Yeah. And I remember me and all my friends were like, we're like, what Pokemon is that? What do you think it is like? And we were like, it's just a fear.
B
Oh, that's special.
A
That's. That was my theory. I was one of the skeptics who's like, it's just a fearow. I'm like. I look back and I'm like, why would they do that? But I was a stupid little kid.
C
And that's how you got Pokemon Crystal and. From Tommy.
A
Yeah. I never had crystal.
B
Wow. You missed out. But I cartridge had a little bulb in it so I could have the time clock on there. It is fine. It's fine. It's just that they moved. And you could be a girl.
A
Yeah.
B
And I mean, I'm a feminist, so I think that's the best game.
C
Hey, and thank you for being an ally.
B
You're welcome. Yeah, they had a little. The little clock in there so that it could be nighttime when it was nighttime and daytime when it was daytime.
A
That's huge.
B
And the battery on that wears out. At some point. And then it soft locks everyone's game.
C
And then the game is they're stuck in like a purgatory. And they, they know it and they feel it.
B
Yeah.
C
And then the vampires come. I do remember, like, specifically for, you know, what do you think that ho was or whatever. There were always rumors that like, there's secret Pokemon.
B
Like, there's.
C
There's rumors that there's more like. And you know, we saw Meryl and we were like, that was. That's Pikabu. And like, Pikablu exists. And like my cousin like, saw it in his game. Like, no, he didn't. And you know, we didn't know there was generation coming out. But like, I remember seeing Meryl hoot, hoot, like Mewtwo in armor. And those were all the ones that like, we were like, has to be one. Like, there's all these like fake codes on cheap planet.com where it's like, you have to run around this thing 10 times, have these in your inventory.
A
Like, yeah, I miss when you didn't have the Internet. Rumors like that we're so cool. They spread like wildfire. And there was no way to disprove it. Yeah, no, you're just like, yeah, I have to trust this kid on the playground.
B
Right.
A
Telling me this is real.
C
Why would someone lie about what their cousin did?
B
Yeah, exactly.
C
That would never happen.
B
Exactly. You go to the truck.
A
Like, I remember someone telling me about the red Gyarados and me being like, no, not it. You're lying.
C
There is one for Beast.
B
Truly built it.
A
And it's really a real thing. Yeah, I had that. I had Sapphire. And then I think after that was when I would like buy the games, play them a little bit. But I wasn't like, I wasn't as locked in.
B
Right. Did anyone return to the series? I came back for Sword and Shield and I was like, we're not there yet. And then I played Scarlet and Violet and I was like, we're almost there.
C
I. I dropped off Scarlet. It's not Scarlet. Ruby. Sapphire. And then after a few years, I think I borrowed your 3Ds and I. You let me borrow like black white 2 or maybe XY2 or something like that. And I'd also played Platinum on my own. Like, I, I went back through a lot of the generations and now it's just like a regular thing I enjoy where like, can I share something kind of crazy that happened the other day?
B
And you better.
C
I have really good Pokemon card luck and I know we have stuff in front of us. And it's like, but I'm not picking the packs. But, like, I have. So there's the Chinese packs that are out right now. They are still manufactured by Wizards of the Coast. The quality is always great. Some of them have unique artwork. They're really cool. So Gem Pack 3 just came out at the time of recording this. And the big chase card that everyone wants to find, it's a super rare chance is this Gengar with special art. Hard to do, hard to find. Like, very, very low chance. But I watch this streamer every once in a while. Tick Tock will show me this Chinese Pokemon card streamer where they'll, like, open up cards that you buy. I was like, sure, I'll buy a box. And in that first box, the Gengar pops up, and they're like, oh, my God. Like, this is crazy. Wow. And I was like, awesome. Thanks. And then the second day, I come back because I'm scrolling and I see them again, and I was like, oh, I'm gonna get another Gengar. And I buy another box, and another Gengar pops.
B
Oh, my God.
C
For records, like, these boxes are like, $90. The Gengar is like a 400 to $500 starting card. Even if it's like, quality. Like. And then I told a friend about it, and they were like, like, if that happens again, can I just buy the box off of you? Because, like, damn. I just, you know, there's no other way I'm going to get that card. And I was like, I'll do it right now. And I. I opened. I went on TikTok and I bought a box, and it was a third Gengar. And the people that were in the shop were like, like, this is your third one. And I was like, yeah, bye. Like, so I don't know. I used it up for the year, and I don't believe in luck, but I kind of do. And so that's. Yep.
B
With that, could we maybe get you to open up one of these?
A
We do have four Pokemon packs of Pokemon cards. We probably have for a long time. I feel like we. I feel like around this office, we just have stuff like that.
C
Yes. But if these are ones that we've had, I know we've opened up, like, a couple shiny, like, rainbow earrings, so the hits might not be here.
A
That's okay.
B
That's okay.
A
I care more about getting one of my favorite Pokemon.
B
Oh, that's really cute.
A
That's what I'm more about.
B
That's really sweet.
C
Do you want to talk about favorites?
A
Let's talk about favorite Pokemon.
B
Okay, let's go in.
A
Who are Pokemon here?
B
Chansey over here, right?
C
Yeah. Chansey's the big fave. I haven't shown this on the Internet before, but I guess I'll send it to Selina so that.
A
Yeah. This is incredible.
C
This is maybe the time I'm scared.
B
Of what's about to happen.
A
Oh, you're gonna love this.
B
Okay, so this is.
C
It's not fully up to date.
B
Whoa. Is this in your home?
C
Yes, this is my Chansey Tower, dude.
B
Okay, what I'm looking at for people there is 1, 2, 3, 4 shelves of just Chansey merch.
A
It's just Chansey memorabilia.
B
It's just beautiful.
A
Chanchany. I've chosen Chansey as like, you're gonna find every piece of Chansey stuff that I can't.
C
So I flippin love. I love Chansey. And I think it was because I had blue version as a kid. Red version is where Chansey was able to be made. So to me, it was always special. And also just looking at the show, like, I don't know. I'm a goofy little.
A
Oh, yes, I've seen this.
C
I'm a goofy little Chance. He's an incredible. I want to give that thing a hug. And I think it's very cute. And so I just have always liked it.
A
Chansey has an evolution, right?
B
Blissey.
C
Blissey.
B
How do you feel about Blissey?
C
I like Blissey a lot. It's not something I'm gonna, like, collect, but.
B
Yeah, you're not into curly hair.
A
I kind of a weird feeling about there were so many Pokemon that didn't have evolutions.
B
Yeah.
A
And I remember as a kid being like, why doesn't it evolve into something? Like, it should evolve into something. And then once they give it to.
B
Them, I'm like, why'd they do that? Like, I don't like Tangela. No, they didn't do it right.
A
They didn't need to do this.
C
Some are rough. I do like Blissey a lot. I think Blissey is like, it's. It doesn't change that much. And I think that's funny because Chansey's just a little egg that wants to, like, help you feel better. And then it goes through a whole, like, magical girl transformation to be Sailor Moonized into, like, it's Chansey, but it might. It looks like it has a little dress, right?
A
Exactly.
B
You're like, yeah, she's wearing clothes now. Yeah.
C
Yeah, that's the big one. Other honorable mentions would be like, Litwick, the Ghastly line. I love Murkrow. I love Oddish. I. Oh, I love Swablu. I like a lot of the unevolved ones that are just cute little guys. Phantom Pumpkaboo.
B
I used to collect these little plastic figurines that came out in the first 151 and then they did it again. And I think they still do it, but my mom would be like on ebay buying ones that I didn't have.
C
Was it the Japanese ones or the English ones?
B
The Japanese ones.
C
I have some. Some wrapped versions of those.
B
That's crazy. That's insane.
A
Yeah.
B
Oh my God. So I have a gloom. So they were. They were all put into a love gloom too. Love gloom tooth. They were all in a plastic bin. So they're all dinged up and they're like not collector. But so I. I've been taking one because they're all at my parents house. Every time I go home I take one to three back with me and I've started putting them all around my home. So I have a Vaporeon in my bathroom just up on a shelf watching this. And then I have. Exactly. And then I have a gloom that I shove down into my plant. So it's just the bulbs sitting on top so you could like pluck it out and see that it's a gloom.
A
I love that.
B
Yeah. Yeah. I just got a Porygon sitting around the cards that you've given me that I have on display. Yeah. Anyway, do you know.
C
Do you know the manufacturer name of those Japanese Pokemon figures?
B
I don't.
C
Tell me.
B
That's awesome.
C
T O M y. Whoa.
B
That's so cool. Look, it's.
A
You just have that info.
B
Yeah.
A
There.
B
No. And that is true. I do remember that now. Yeah. Tomi, Tomi, what's your favorite?
A
My favorite is I don't have like a specific favorite. I don't have one that I'm like, that's the one. But I have quite a bit. Hold on, let me pull up. I made a Doc Incredible on my phone.
B
Great.
A
Okay, so I made a list of favorites and I made a list of ones that I think are dumb.
B
Okay.
A
So ones that just kind of pissed me off. Like I'm like, I just don't know what it is. Don't like it.
B
Right.
A
Like I would never have it on my team.
B
So it's Fuck, Marry, Kill without the F. Yeah.
C
You have Vaporeon. And did you know that in terms of human to Pokemon anatomy. No, I'm kidding. It's the Joe Biden fellow Americans Obvious one.
A
Mewtwo. Like, love Mewtwo. I said Pincer, I'm a big fan of Hawlucha. The. He just got a Mega Evo. Damien got me a really awesome car card of Incredible. Really sick.
C
It's a. It's a population one in that grade. So.
B
Damien's an incredible gift giver when it comes to all things, but also Pokemon things.
C
Thank you.
A
I love Sandshrew.
B
Santu's.
A
I always thought Sandshrew was just perfectly designed.
B
He's just a little man.
A
Like the brick, like, like, design of them, the claws.
B
I was like, this is.
A
This is perfect.
C
I didn't know what spike damage was in the games. And for anyone who doesn't know, like, every Pokemon has a certain few moves that, like, do extra damage because it's like their special type. And they don't really explain that in the early games. So I would always use Sandslash, who I loved, and do the slash move. And it would do an obscene amount of damage. And I'm like, why does it work with anybody else like that? But okay, I'll keep using him.
B
Wow. I don't think I knew on my team Sand Slash, I knew that.
A
Kadabra. I love that whole evolution line.
B
You know the lore about Kadabra that.
A
Isn'T it a person.
B
It's a child that got turned into a Pokemon. That's what they say.
A
There's a lot of.
C
That's what they say for Kadabra. Abra and Kadabra.
B
Or maybe it's Abra that's turned. That's a child that gets turned into. Anyway, it's one of them. One of them's a child.
C
That Phantump who's on my back. The, like, lost little ghost tree. That's what is a lost kid in the woods.
B
Oh, wow.
A
Jesus.
B
Yeah. And then Driftbloom or Drift.
C
Drift Drifbloom is the reason.
A
Oh, my God. Yeah.
B
It takes children away.
C
And Froslass is also like a sad girl that died on the mountain. Like, oh, a lot of ghost Pokemon are just like, nah, it's just a bunch of kids.
B
Yeah.
C
If you're a kid. Fuck.
A
My next Pokemon is Haunter.
B
It's a sin to be a kid. I love Haunter Rocks.
A
But. But what's the deal with ghost Pokemon? Are they the ghosts of Pokemon or are they. That's that. That they're born as a ghost.
B
I think it's both and neither in.
C
Terms of the game. You can hatch a ghost. So, like, that would have to be it. But a Lot of the lore is like spiritomb is like 37 people died and their souls were trapped in this one rock. So.
B
Right.
C
Yeah. It's a lot of dead.
B
And like, the way the anime portrays it, they portray it like there's only one of them.
A
Yeah.
B
You know what I mean? Like, they're like, whoa, what's that? And it's like, this is our first time encountering and there's no other. No one else has a hobby.
A
The enemy just said a lot.
B
So it's like, so you must just exist as the ghost of something. But I don't know. I don't think there's an answer.
A
I was doing research and they do establish in the anime, or it's been hinted at at least that there are real animals.
C
Yeah.
B
Yeah.
A
And then there's Pokemon.
B
Every once in a while they throw a real animal in there and you're like, what are you. What are you talking about?
C
It's gotta suck to be just like.
B
To be in the world on the whole thing and you're just an animal. It sucks so much.
A
So in that sense, are Pokemon kind of like more akin to like demons or like spirits or so.
C
I wouldn't say that that's how we got them banned the first time in the South. Yeah.
B
Please don't.
C
I want to bring cards to school still.
B
That's true. I think they're just animals that have.
A
That are just a little better into.
B
Yeah, exactly.
A
A little bit better.
B
It's a little bit better.
C
They're just better animals.
A
Yeah. And then there's also some Pokemon that are people.
B
That are people. Mister. That's a guy.
A
That's a guy.
B
That's a guy with pants with a little underwear on. He's got underwear on.
C
So any clothes on a Pokemon is technically their skin. It is. What? But they just. I guess they're little flaps.
A
Were boxers a real thing before Hitmonchan entered the scene? Or did boxers in the Pokemon universe go, we need to do what that thing's doing.
B
She's got something going on over here.
C
Lore wise, a lot of the words line up because we got our language from Pokemon. When Charmander goes like, char, char, we're like, okay. The word to, like burn something a little bit is char. Yeah.
B
So it's canonically like reverse.
C
Yeah.
A
Interesting.
B
Interesting.
A
Okay. This episode of Smoshmouth is brought to you by Zocdoc Shane.
C
Lately I've been feeling fatigued. Like I'm not in tip top shape.
A
Yeah. It's wintertime. My bones feel a little achy 100%.
C
Some of my joints sound like I'm opening a door in a haunted house.
A
I feel ya.
C
I'm missing some crucial doctor's appointments.
A
I hear that I am constantly behind on my doctor's appointments, but not as much anymore, thanks to Zocdoc, which you should try. Zocdoc is a free app and website where you can search and compare high quality quality in network doctors and click to instantly book an appointment. Damien, you have no excuse. This app makes it so easy. You can filter by insurance, location and whatever you need like primary care, urgent care, dental. You can see the openings and typically book within 24 to 72 hours. I mean, I've been pushing off doctor's appointments for a long time and then I looked at sock talk and I was like, oh, I can book an appointment like right now.
C
Could I theoretically go like today?
A
Theoretically.
C
Okay.
A
If you look through the app, it's very possible. Stop putting off those doctor's appointments and go to Zocdoc.com smoshmouth to find and instantly book a top rated Doctor today. That's Zocdoc.com Smoshmouth Zocdoc.com SmoshMouth.
C
Back to the show.
A
All right, couple more that I have. Only three more. Cubone was always a big fan of Cubone bone. Horrible lore.
B
Yeah. Skull of his mom.
C
Do you think it's its own thing? Do you think it's a baby Kangaskhan or do you think it's a baby Charmander?
A
Is that Lore to them?
C
There's some questions about it if you look at the design. Because this whole thing is like it wears the skull of its mother. But every type of that Pokemon can't be like, well, their mom gets mercs and then they wear its head like it's as it goes. As it goes. So the thought is that like it's a baby Kangaskhan whose mom dies or it's a baby Charmander whose mom dies and they wear that and that's what turns them into a Cubone and the flame goes out or whatever because they look aesthetically like the same without the helmet.
B
So I'm going to bet at Kangaskhan.
C
Yeah, I see that.
B
I also don't think they thought that through. I don't think he's just, I think.
A
Explained after y got a little retcon. A classic Snorlax.
B
Great guy, Great guy.
A
Sleep.
B
Huge guy.
A
Sleep.
C
Big tummy, so sleepy.
B
Big tummy, so sleepy.
A
And then I adult I. I do have to shout out porygon oh, yeah.
B
Big shout out to porn.
A
Is that your favorite? Yeah.
B
I mean, I'm tied between Porygon and Ditto.
A
Yeah.
B
Just because I love Ditto and his stupid little head and stupid little face and how when he transforms, his face is the same and people are like, that was just the one from the anime Tommy. And I'm like, no, I know that. But then go to the store and they've done all the face on all of his little guys. And so I liked his little gimmick. And that's fun. I also recently rewatched so many episodes of Pokemon.
A
Oh, really?
B
Yeah. I was serotonin or dopamine hunting and I was just like, what if I just played something from my childhood? That'll feel good. And I did that for a while. I did. I did like an hour on the treadmill just watching like, whoa, you got.
A
Whoa. Come back here.
B
We're going to.
C
We're going to kick you in a minute.
B
No, no.
A
Is Brock. Is Brock still canceled? Is he. Is it still canceled? No, like, I just like think back on it. It's like, oh, he was just total pervert. That was.
B
Yeah, but he was young. The idea was that he was young. So it's like he gets some. Somehow gets a free card there because he's like 16. So it's just like, okay, weirdo.
A
Did he ever get any luck?
B
Nah, I don't think so.
C
It's hinted that he goes on a lot of forums to talk poorly about women as an incel.
B
If you really look into the material.
C
If you really look into it, they have that there.
A
It was before Reddit, but he was a Redditor.
B
Yeah, but I'm a big proponent of the human made Pokemon, which I know Mewtwo is a human made Pokemon, but I like Porygon. Cause he's like, he's a computer Pokemon. I don't know. Why is he in the real world? I don't know. I like him. I like Ditto and I like the lore that Ditto is failed clones of Mewtwo. Do you. Have you heard of this? No.
A
That's awesome.
B
Because you can find. Find them in the same area as Mewtwo. And so like, there's the whole lore. And I think the Pokemon company were like, stop, that's not right.
C
But it's like, so follow the same shiny structure where like they start as pink and the shinies are blue. And also the only two Pokemon in Gen one that can use Transform and like copy you is Ditto and Mew.
B
Yeah. So they think it's a failed clone of Mew. And so it's ditto. And I think that's awesome because he's like a genetic blob.
C
It's just a bunch of stem cells.
B
Yeah. And then, and then my third one, which I don't use that often, but like, he kind of fits in the same thing as Castform. I don't know if you know who he is. He's just like a little, a little gray guy with a little hair piece and like you can kind of see through him. And he's got two little hands that kind of look like boobs, but he just has them in front of him and he kind of can transform into like a little sun or like a little rain cloud. And he just, he's like a weather Pokemon. And so like he's also like created. So I just like these, you know, man made cuties. I like that.
A
The signs are nice.
B
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
A
I'm a big fan.
B
And then also there's a Ultra Beast. Do you know what that is?
A
Ultra Beast.
B
Ultra Beast. Which game is that? Sun and Moon. Sun and Moon came out.
A
I played sun and Moon. I just don't remember much.
C
Yeah.
B
At the end game or near the end, there's Ultra Beasts that are like Pokemon from a different universe. They're supposed to be like aliens or something. Oh, I also love Deoxys, by the way. Oh, he's a really cool guy.
A
I don't know how I feel about though, when they start getting to like, and this one's God, like, and I know that's not Deoxys. Deoxys is the like DNA, the DNA. And I start to get a little bit like, all right, it's like a little too powerful. I like when they're little tiny little monsters, you know, like that's what I like.
C
Gone are the days where it's like, well, this is a bird that can breathe fire now. Like this is the embodiment of time.
B
And you're letting me catch it.
A
Yeah, yeah. An 11 year old boy caught it.
C
It's like that thing's pure of heart.
A
Yeah, I'll.
C
I'll be owned by you. That's fine.
B
All right. I'll be your little guy. There's an Ultra Beast that's so up. He's got. He's got a big round clown head with a bunch of dots on it. And he's like the balloon one. Yeah, he's very, very bizarre looking.
C
Little clown balloon.
B
I forget what his name. I'm sure. And He's a fire type, and I don't know why. Anyway, anyway, big fan.
A
I have a hot take.
B
Okay.
A
I have several hot takes. But my first one right now, because it's all along lines of ones I like, is I have really come around to the inanimate object. Pokemon.
C
Wow.
A
And I really like them. I really like them.
B
Klefki.
A
Klefki's fine. Klefki is also overpowered.
B
Well, absolutely.
C
Yeah.
A
Fairy and steel. If you don't know Pokemon that well, basically nothing can affect it.
C
It's playing rock, paper, scissors when your friend has rock and scissors and a gun.
A
Yeah. Clucky's. Okay. But, like, there's a. There is a Pokemon that is a bag of trash. And when I first came across it, I remember being like, what the. But nowadays I'm like, that rocks. It would make sense that so much. And I love. There's a chandelier one, and I love.
C
That I forgot the chandelure line is one of my favorites. I just finally got the. I just. It just came in from Japan. Also, fuck those tariffs, because, oh, my God, I'm paying, like, $50 every time I get a package. It's like, this big. It is a chandelure, like, lamp, like, LED that sits on your table.
B
No, it's an actual. That's incredible.
A
There's a few because. And then there was, like, in one of the more recent ones, there was one that's just a sword. And I was like, that's sick.
C
Aegislash. Did you know Trubbish is potentially a cat?
A
The little.
B
Excuse me.
A
So now I hate it.
C
There was no. There was a Pokemon piece of official art that came out recently. And it was all the, like, Pokemon cats. And, like, it just. All the cute little cats were there. And then also Trubbish.
B
Did they put Eevee in that?
C
I don't think they did.
B
Okay. Cause that's like a dog. What is it?
A
It has those ears.
B
Trubbish has Trubbish. But I thought they were the tie of the trash bag. Yeah, but I thought that's what that was.
C
It's gotta be something, though. They can't just be like. And these are my flaps. These are my little Terry flaps.
B
Chickens walk around with that shit under their feet. Yeah, but that's for waddling around. For waddling around.
A
That's for being silly.
B
I.
A
No, I can't. I can't. It's a bag of trash.
C
Okay?
B
It's a bag of trash.
A
It's a bag of Trash.
C
It cannot be both that I love. My cat Zelda's a bag of trash that I love.
B
I love her because that was in black and white. When they were like, we're going to redo. There was like no other Pokemon were restarting, basically.
C
Yeah.
B
And so they were like, we need a coughing, wheezing muck and Grimer dupe. And so they were like, let's make a bag of trash. Yeah, I'm doing a good job. Yeah. Yeah. But then they had the. The. The. Is it sock and sock and throw.
A
And they just have full on geese.
B
They're just like.
A
No, like, they're bald, man. That's their skin.
B
Yeah.
A
Like, come on.
C
They don't even look like they're from a place that like. Oh, we originated judo. It looks like a white guy with his, like, ghee, way too open being like, let me teach you judo in this small. Yeah, small studio in a strip mall in North Carolina. And I'm like, no, God.
A
Yeah, it's. I struggle with those, but yeah. And then there's the sandcastle one. There's one that's a sandcastle. I dig that.
C
It's a ghost.
B
What's his name?
A
Yeah, A lot of them are ghost types.
C
Yeah. But Sandgast.
B
Sandygast.
C
Sandy Ghast.
A
Sandygast.
C
It sounds like Nightmare Before Christmas. They're like, sandygast is coming. They just.
B
Sandy Gast.
A
And then there's a tumbleweed. I like that.
C
I like that one too.
B
He's cool.
A
I just like him.
B
I like that he evolves and he's kind of the same thing, right? And he has like more of a face. He's a little bit bigger and you're just like, neat.
C
That's how people grow. That's how I like, delmise. The ghost grass anchor. Literally an anchor with the.
B
With the wheel behind them.
C
Yeah, yeah. Apparently the Pokemon is actually just the algae there. The ghost algae. And the anchor is just part of it.
B
And see, they do that so much. They do. They're like. What you're seeing is not actually the body.
A
It's not actually this thing. Not that thing.
C
It's a dead kid.
B
This is actually. It's actually not the moss. It's the dead kid on the Pokemon. That's actually the Pokemon. But we're. What's up? I forget, can we open one of these packs?
A
Let's open up a pack.
B
They're staring at me and I need to do it.
A
All right, Tommy, you open up the first pack, you choose one, and let's See who gets the coolest card. There's rarest, but there's also the coolest. Right.
B
Two different categories, Rarest and coolest. Okay. Hello, I am Tommy and I'll be opening the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, temporal forces with 10 additional game cards, age six and up.
A
Ooh, that's good for audio listeners. He's opening up.
B
How do I do this?
C
I just came.
A
Okay, I can't asmr. I'm opening up Pokemon cards.
C
Let me show you the way, if I may. Yeah, okay, do that. That's fine.
B
I'll get my spit all over it.
C
There are two Chansey cards that I just learned existed that I will never be able to get. One is that attitude. That's true. I need money. One is the Pokemon snack app competition where like someone took a picture of a Chansey and won the competition with it. So they printed like 12 cards. One of them just went for like 30k. The other is like, whoa. Yeah. It's insane. The other is like the Chansey like beta edition where they made it like a potential. Like this is what it looks like when we're play testing Pokemon cards. And they gave it out to members of the Pokemon company. So it's another one that's like $30,000.
B
Cuz it's so rare. Wow.
C
So I'm just. Yeah.
A
How do you go about. Because isn't like the rarest is the rarest in the back.
B
Back.
C
Yes, it depends on the pack, but usually, yeah, rarest and back.
A
Okay, what do we have first?
B
So here we go. We've got a Grubbin, which I've got to tell you, don't know him that much.
A
Oh yeah, I don't like him.
B
I don't like him uneventful.
A
I don't like Grubbin that much.
C
My favorite bug is Larvesta and there's.
B
A. Oh, she's really fun.
C
She's really fun. There is a $500 life size plush in Japan that I was like, if I won the lottery, there would be signs. But just for fun, I looked at what the shipping would be with this tariff stuff. Now it would be an additional $500 to ship.
A
Yeah.
C
Which like.
B
Yeah. It's funny.
A
You don't actually pay for it.
C
No, I do.
A
Yeah.
B
Okay. Here's Grubbin.
C
Is like my least favorite.
A
Yeah.
B
And then what's, what's, what's revolution? Big pants, big, big hands.
C
Can't lose.
B
Big hands, big pants. He's like, he's like stop, stop, stop right there. Anyway, don't like him.
A
Hopcham or something like that.
B
Hotcho.
A
Yeah, not a bit. Not a fan.
B
No. No, not a fan.
A
I'm not a fan of any of the Hitmon whatevers that they added. Hitmontop can go fuck himself.
B
I agree. He's not good. Why are you upside down?
A
They're like, yeah, we've got kung fu, we've got boxing. Oh, what's the next one? Upside down? I'm like capoeira.
B
Nah, nah. Okay, we got Tranquil, which is a bird. Another bird.
C
Quill.
B
Exciting.
A
I like that card Quill.
B
Right? Look, it's Mr. Mime. It's a guy.
A
Okay, Mr. Mime. Mr. Mime. You know, the human like ones freak me out, but Mr. Mime gets a pass.
C
He gets a pass from me.
B
He gets a pass. And may I say in the Pokemon Detective Pikachu movie where they had Mr. Mime in there and they chose to make the round things on his body the texture of a kickball.
A
Yeah.
B
I lost my mind. I loved that.
A
That was good.
B
Good. I was like, that's an insane choice. And I love. Okay, Mr. Mime's done. We got Mudsdale.
C
I do like Mudsdale.
B
He's okay. There's some that are just like, yeah, that's a horse. Yeah, that's a bird, you know? Yeah. I'm like, I wish they were a little more brave or a little less.
C
Do you think we're blinded by nostalgia, though? Because think about, like, Ponyta, like, yeah, that's a horse, but fireman. And that's. This is a horse, but ground power, like, I don't know.
A
I don't mind it.
B
I don't mind it. I don't know.
A
But not as good as Ponyta. Yeah, but I love the classic anime design of the original.
B
The, like, Sugimori artwork. Yeah, yeah. That's kind of what we're missing. We've gone a little too, like, cutie, you know, cutie, cutie time. And a little less, like. But. But then we also go, like, super cool. And it's like, they don't need to be super cool.
A
That's why the OG I'm such a. I'm such an old head when it comes to it.
B
Yeah, you're a Gen Warner.
C
Okay, so Chugi.
B
Explore Explorers. Chugi. We got Explorer's guidance. Very good. Oh, we got Colossal. I think he's from Sword Shield. Yep.
A
Okay.
B
Pretty good guy. I also like this guy. Oh, he's like a little.
A
He's amoeba, right?
B
Yeah. This is the second evolution. But he's just like a little. He's like a one cell organism.
C
I kind of thought this was the Fenusian Duosian.
B
Duosion.
A
Duosion Dwosian.
B
Okay.
C
Duo scion.
B
We've got something. We've got something special.
A
Oh, do we have something special coming up?
B
Oh, we've got a deer.
C
That's an art rare for the deerling.
B
It's an art rare. Look. And he's. It's shiny. It's. It's kind of holographic and kind of not. It is, yeah.
A
Wow.
C
You get holographics in every pack now. So the art rares and the secret art rares are the ones that you're hunting. So that's a big hit.
B
Big hit. Big hit.
A
And then what's our last dumb one?
B
And then we got Torterra Ex. Full art or. No, it's the. It's not full art. It's.
C
It's an ex.
B
It's an ex. It's a regular.
A
What's in there?
B
Yeah. And then a basic fire energy. I'm.
C
Basic energy.
B
A basic.
A
This is such a cute little card.
B
He's a little cutie guy. Wow.
A
A deerling. Aww. I still to this day, one of the highlights of my childhood was we went to the store and I think we had a. There was a vending machine where I would get Pokemon cards. And I got a pack, got a jungle pack. And my mom is driving me home and I'm in the back seat and I go through it and I'm going through it like fast and then I come across a holographic charizard and I lost my shit.
B
Was your mom like, what's going on?
A
I think she was like, truly didn't understand. I was like, basically probably screaming.
B
How many, how many holographic charge charizards did you get total?
A
I. I think that was my only one I ever had.
B
Can I be a little fuck ass, please?
A
Probably have like 10.
B
I think I had five.
C
Wow.
B
I saved one because I have all 151 original cards. I've got the full 151. Not all of them are like the holographic or whatever, but I've got at least all of them. And to complete them, I turned in two of the five that I had at a place where I was just. That was just like. I got these. Can you finish off what I need? And they're like, yeah, here's a Hitmonlee. Here's a. This here's a. You know, he's a Nidoqueen. I Remember getting Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee and Nidoqueen for one of them.
C
They got. They got a good deal, but.
B
Yeah, but I still have two of them. They're in their little case. They're not like the ones that are worth like $10 million.
A
Sure.
B
They're not the. The special guys, I don't think.
C
Shadow first edition.
B
Yeah, yeah. It's not a first edition.
A
I don't think any of mine are worth much of anything. But they're. I would never get rid of them anyways.
B
Right?
A
Like, I have them all. They're still in my childhood home. I don't have them in my. I don't have them here. Yeah, but I have them all. Same with all my Yu Gi oh cards.
B
My dad, like five times a year, he'd be like, hey, so the neighbor, he thinks he could sell your cards. Do you want to sell your cards? Hey, he could, hey, you want to do it?
C
And I'm like, no, why would the neighbor be needed?
B
I think we'll hold on to it.
A
I can't believe the craze that's come back.
B
It's unbelievable.
C
I'm shocked.
A
I remember because I remember as a kid being like. Like being like, oh, these might be worth something someday, and then being like, nah, the craze is going to die down.
B
And then it did. And then it was like, oh, these.
A
Really was really never worth anything.
C
Yeah, it's wild right now, unfortunately, like scalpers kind of ruin it for a lot of people. But there are cards that are worth, like, I'm at least selling one of those Gengars. And I just got some cards back from grading. I have some that, like, they don't matter to me nostalgically, but I've pulled some really crazy stuff recently and just casually buying packs, like, you know, in the most recent packs, there's some like, gold cards that look truly like shiny gold that are like Gardevoir. Lucario, the new Charizard came out. So I like pulled one of those. It is like 500 went raw. I got it back as a 10 graded. Potentially, if someone buys it and people are buying it like, it's spicy pricey. And I'm like, why wouldn't. I went. I do that when, like, it is a few payments of a utility. You know what I mean?
A
Like, for sure.
C
I can't really justify not selling it, you know?
B
Speaking of gold cards, did either of you.
A
Yes, yes. The Burger King. The Burger King gold cards.
C
I have them sealed, baby.
A
You have them sealed?
C
I do.
A
Oh, you do. James is like, I gotta feel.
C
Hell, yeah.
A
Wow. I don't know where mine went.
B
All of mine are just in a bin in my home. Everything worth something's tossed in a bin in my home.
C
Well, because you focus on the things that matter.
B
Yeah, that's right.
C
I got mine in a Goodwill.
B
What?
C
Literally found them sealed at a Goodwill for like two or three dollars each. And I was like, yeah, I'll be having this. Please and thank you.
B
Holy shit.
A
I loved those. And I don't know where they went. I think, unfortun, it's the unfortunate thing of, like, when I was around 13, 14, I probably got rid of some things. I was like, I don't need these anymore.
C
Yeah.
A
And like, that was the era when Pokemon was starting to, like, not be.
B
Yeah, it was worth as much.
A
It wasn't. It was like, these aren't gonna be worth anything.
C
Yeah.
A
And then, like, I could have never suspected that, oh, maybe in 12 years, Pokemon's gonna have a huge comeback. Like. Yeah, it's fucking crazy.
C
Well, it makes you feel better. A lot of the stuff, like, I literally found last night my binder from when I was a kid. But, like, a lot of the stuff. I kept my stuff as pristine as possible. I like, from the very beginning was like, I'm collecting these. I'm not playing with them. But even then, they get little scratches. They get little bumps. Like, unless you went out of your way to keep something perfect, perfect, it would be graded like a 5 out of 10, a 4 out of 10. It's not worth that much. It's more valuable to you, nostalgically.
A
Oh, yeah.
B
I love going through every once in a while.
A
I'm not a collector by any means. Like, I am, you know, I love, like, to have things and to use things. Right. Like, I. Like, I gave Courtney for. For her birthday. I was like, oh, it'll be funny if I got her a couple of boo boos, right?
C
Yeah.
A
And it's like. But people, like, seal them up. And I'm like, no, I'm.
B
Fuck.
A
We're gonna rock these. And they're getting dirty and it's gonna be awesome. Like, that's the point for me. But I also want to keep them, like, preserved. But just enough.
B
Yeah, you'll give them enough effort to keep.
A
Just enough to like, have them around.
B
Just like a backpack or something. It's like, you're gonna use it.
C
Speaking of which, I made a TikTok. I think my most recent TikTok, as of recording this was like, something Very delicately making fun of Labubus, where I was stupid laboos and people were like. Like, people blew it. Blew their minds, they were so mad. And I'm like, take a step back. It's a wall of chances.
B
Like, let's take a look.
C
I'm not actually making fun of anybody here. You like what you like?
A
I mean, anything collectible, you could boil it down to, oh, this is dumb. It's like, yeah, anything you enjoy is dumb. But, like.
B
But, like, since humanity's always been collecting little things, whether it's like, pretty rocks or whatever, it's just fun.
A
I think it's. What I get is the criticism of, like, like, are you. Are you going to collect it and then throw it away immediately? Like. Or is this something you're actually treasuring and, like, you're going to hold?
B
Yeah. Are people going to be looking at their labos like, are we going to have from now?
A
And being like, wow, is it Beanie Babies 2.0? Where there's going to be.
B
It's definitely going to be Beanie Babies 2.0.
A
Dumps of beanie Babies. I still love that onion article where it's like, oh, the spider eggs that were inside Beanie Babies are finally hatching.
B
That's awesome.
C
I love that.
B
That's awesome.
A
All right, should I open one?
B
Yes, do it.
A
Okay.
B
Who you picking?
A
You know what? This one was in front of me. Okay, I'm going to open it up. Damien, how good do you think this is that?
C
You know what? I was eyeballing that, but seeing as it's from the same set Tommy had, Tommy just pulled a hit, and they were probably from the same box. I don't know.
A
You think not?
B
I think there's going to be something better than mine in there.
A
Oh, you think better? Yeah, that's the gauge. Better or worse than Tommy.
C
Can I pitch something to you?
A
Yes.
C
There's. There's card duels that you do where you, like, do it number by number, and then at the same time be like, oh, this is cool. Okay, yours was the best pack.
A
Let's do this.
C
We can just do that.
A
Cuz we have one final one after that.
C
I'm going to do Obsidian Flames, which.
A
Is a different set, and I'm doing Temporal Forces Tempura. Forces Tempura Tempora.
B
Gentlemen, open your packs.
A
Oh, jeez. This is harder than.
C
Mine's got a good one.
A
This has a really good one.
C
Yeah.
A
All right, so I do. Do I put this away and then.
B
You flip it over and we're doing. We're doing first, guys.
C
That's a good one, too. Okay, we both have good.
B
Because you're doing the block because we're not doing the top. We're doing the arf. Yeah. Flipping over, and you're done for the first guy first. Okay, cool.
A
Okay.
B
All right. Our first matchup. Burn up.
C
I have Cubchoo, the bear that sneezes on you like a toddler.
B
That's adorable.
A
I got bad news for you. I got azumarill started off little bunny baby.
B
Is it azumarill or azum as?
C
I think it's a zumaral Azumarill.
A
Oh, like azure. Yeah, Azumarill. I've been saying azumarill my entire life.
B
It's okay.
A
I'm about to find out. No. Okay, side note. People have been talking about so much about how I mispronounce so many words because I learned so much from reading.
C
From reading.
B
And you just. That's just you and your brain schooled.
A
Which also, by the way, someone was, like, talking about something with me with, like, homeschooled, where they clearly think I've been homeschooled my entire life. I'm like, no, buddy, I was homeschooled in high school.
B
Yeah, right?
A
So that's what we're talking about.
C
I know how to say pissy chick.
A
Yeah.
C
It's fine.
A
Come on. All right, so who wins this one?
B
You do.
C
I think it's just pack to pack. Who had the cooler pack? Like, we just do it at the same time.
A
Okay.
B
But so far, Shane's in the lead.
C
He is. So next up, I have Spoink, the little pig spring, and if it stops bouncing, it dies.
B
And his little gem on it. His head.
C
Well, damn.
A
Damn. Spoink. All right, I got. Oh, I got Yamper.
C
Yamper?
B
Who's Yamper?
A
Yamper's the electric little dog.
B
Oh, yeah, sure. Yeah.
A
By the way, after we do this, there was a thing that I. I really want to get to and I want to do, which is talking about everyone on. On the smosh cast and. And gauging what element of what.
B
Gym leader.
C
Yep.
A
Love it.
C
We got to do that faster than we got Tynamo, the little electric fish.
B
He can all come together and become a bigger guy.
A
Okay. Grubbin.
C
I like grubbin.
B
Grubbin. Okay.
A
Some. Some sweet Grubbin.
C
Very similar to Grubbin. I got Surskit, Little water spider.
A
Okay.
B
Okay.
A
Never was a big fan of Surskit.
C
I think it's cute.
B
He makes a great Noise. When he comes out, I think he.
C
Just goes, ah, yeah, right.
A
And the anime's like, some Pokemon say their names. Some don't.
B
Some don't. Yeah. Who goes?
C
That's Electabuzz.
A
Oh, God. Okay. Medich.
B
Medichan again.
A
Yeah. Go away.
C
We got a Kangaskhan on deck.
A
Oh, good, Great. Good. I've got. Ooh, Exadrill. That's a good one.
B
That's a good one.
A
That's a powerful Pokemon.
B
Really quick, before we move on, can you. Can everyone give me your best Arbok from the anime?
A
Oh, what? That's right. That's right. It does that crazy thing. I'd have to listen to it again. It's been a minute.
B
That's okay. We did it.
C
We got to bring that show back. I was making noises. We got Whiscash, the little electric fish again.
B
Incredible.
A
Ooh, Keldeo.
C
Yeah, it's another one of those, like.
B
He's like, semi legendary. Semi. He's like a mystical.
A
I don't think I know this one that well.
C
He's just a unicorn, you know, Friendship is magic. We got Float Soul, the Little Weasel.
A
I had. Yeah, I had a Float Soul in a playthrough. Like, this is before. I was, like, looking stuff up online. I had a playthrough, I had him, and I had his evolutionary form. Or was it that? Or was it Pelipper? I had, like, a shitty water type where, like, later on the game, I was like, I don't need this, man. You're not making the cut.
C
Think it's Pelipper.
A
We're trading you to the Knicks.
B
Yeah.
A
Oh, Electivire.
C
Nice.
B
That's great.
C
Yeah.
A
This is the one where, like, he evolves. And I was like, he didn't need to.
B
I, like, initially, I liked him and the Magmar Evolution. And then after a while, I went.
C
Yeah, no, I kind of like him, to be honest.
B
I liked him in Pokemon Legends, Arceus, when you were, like, up on the mountain, and then he's like. And you're like, oh, my God, it's the big guy. It's awesome. He's awesome.
C
Come on, you can do it. Say Electabuzz. He's yodeling. We've got a letter of encouragement, and that letter is W, because you win in my book.
B
Cute.
A
Ooh, Sablai.
B
Sableye.
A
Sableye.
B
I think so.
A
I'm so sorry, Sableye. We're gonna find out what Pokemon I've been saying. This is gonna be like that episode of that podcast episode of Mythical where Link is showing his dad foods. Have you been. Have ever seen?
C
I have.
A
God. He shows his dad couscous. The word couscous. His dad goes, kushius. It runs through my head.
C
It makes a lot of.
A
I kind of want to say kushius now.
C
Makes more sense than looking at that and going couscous.
A
His dad, like, looks like he just goes, koshas.
B
That's great.
A
Yeah.
C
This should be our. Our big hit here. One like an art rare. We've got. I've got an art rare of belly bolts. Belly bolt sitting alone in a cave.
B
Don't like him. Don't like what? Well, he's got the. These aren't my real eyeballs. And I'm like, oh, yeah.
A
All right, all right. I got Litten.
C
Litten. But you've got something big coming up after Litten.
A
Okay.
C
Is the thing. Let's see. Mine is going to be Scizor.
B
Scissor.
C
Scissor. And I've got energy.
A
All right, what do you think it is? How good?
C
It's a big one. It's gonna be a really pretty ex.
B
Whoa.
A
Actually, this is one of my favorites for Alligator was my man in. In silver. In fact, this was back in the day in those early ones. Did you guys do the same thing I did where you had one Pokemon that was jacked?
B
Oh, absolutely.
A
And then the rest were kind of like, yeah, you guys can make maybe.
B
Yeah, you're gonna swap out while I throw potions at my big boy and then it can come back out.
C
Come here, fodder. Why do you call me that?
A
Feraligatr was my LeBron. And like, everybody else was also there.
B
And you know why he spelled like that?
A
Oh, yeah. There's no E or O or anything. They didn't have room.
B
They didn't have room.
C
They didn't have room.
B
So they just had to end it with the R G H E R.
A
Ahead of his time.
B
Had of his time.
A
And then nice psychic piss chick energy.
C
You really like Scyther? Scissor, right?
A
I wasn't a huge. I liked Scyther.
C
Okay.
B
Scyther's cool.
A
Scizor.
C
I know Scyther was a favorite when I was a kid, and I had two first edition clefairy which were actually worth a lot. And I didn't know that. And so when Scizor came out, I traded a clefairy for that and then learned afterwards they were like, oh, that was a terrible trade. And I tried to trade back to.
A
The older kid and they just like, no, he's like.
C
He's like, nope, you traded.
A
I don't like you.
B
Will either of you be playing the new Pokemon Legends game?
C
Absolutely.
A
Probably. I never beat Arceus, but I will probably play. I loved it.
B
Yeah. I never got to the actual Arceus himself in that game because I know you had to. Like, there's a lot to do to get to him. I will be playing it, but I'm nervous. I'm nervous. You're nervous because Legends was. The first one was so good.
C
It really was.
B
It was so good. I'm worried it's not gonna be. It's gonna be the sophomore slump maybe. We'll see.
C
I'm curious to see how they adjust, because nine times out of 10, they hit the nail on the head.
B
Absolutely.
C
And even with Arceus being a huge departure from the series, I was like, like, okay, let's see how this is. And then it ended up being, like, one of my favorites of all time.
B
Yeah.
C
So I don't know. I'm sure they know what they're doing.
B
I'm excited to do the live battle. That's going to be the coolest thing.
A
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
B
But it's weird because you're, like. You're, like, walking behind your Pokemon because, like, you're not playing your Pokemon. You're playing your trainer. So you're, like, going, like, do the thing. And then he goes, okay. And you're like, oh, shit.
A
Do a shit.
B
Take a shit.
A
All right. I mentioned this earlier. I want to get into. Okay, first, let's go through us, plus three.
B
Okay.
A
What type of gym do you think you would run?
C
I've always had this answer in my pocket. I love every type of, like, ghost with maybe a little bit of fairy in there. Like, very spooky. But at the very end, it has to have a big, sweet chansey. That's just like, how you doing? Did you like the haunted house?
A
That's fun.
C
You feeling okay? And she gives you, like, a cookie and a hug and, like, okay, well, you guys come back. You can try again. That's okay. Big chansey with hugs.
B
Big chance.
A
I like that.
B
Nice.
A
So you'd have, like, sweet guts ghosts.
C
I would have, like, a mimikyu. I would have, like, the chandelure line. I would find a way to sneak in some, like, bell. Awesome. If we're not talking about, like, winning and being the most powerful, I just.
A
Want the vibe of, like, I can.
B
See your gym being, like, a campy haunted house.
C
Yeah.
B
You know, as opposed to, like, a true, like, ghost, like, Sabrina Being like, I bent your neck backwards. You know, it'd be more like, happy Halloween.
C
And then Chansey gives you a big old hug.
B
Yes, yes, absolutely. Absolutely.
A
Tommy.
B
I definitely would be a normal type just from the guys that I like.
A
Oh, okay.
B
I think normal's fun because it's like, I don't know, you're none of them. We can't really put you anywhere, so you're normal.
A
Is Porygon normal type?
B
He sure is. And he has tri attack, which is three elements at once. And it's a bad move.
A
I think you would you not have like, kind of. You'd have the human made gym.
B
Yeah.
A
Like Porygon, ditto. Like all these things. Like, you have the like weird. Like, like.
B
Huh. And I have a mewtwo as well. Yeah.
C
I want your gym to just be like your apartment. Like, you walk in, you're like, hey, come in. In like, it's just.
B
Come in. Guys.
A
I'll be.
C
I'll be right there.
A
No, this is a really trendy place. I hear it's really great, this place. Really cool. I actually don't know for myself, I.
C
Would see you as. Fighting is in there somehow. Just because fighting isn't necessarily always fighting. You've got the like machoke and the halucha. Like, sometimes it's like we're busy getting shredded and staying healthy.
B
I think that's what.
C
Let's show you the fitness power choked gym. Yeah.
A
Okay. Just a weightlifting gym.
B
And unfortunately again, like Meta Cham, who we hate, is like more of like a mind and body and soul. It's a fighting psychic.
C
I think yoga.
B
Right. And so I feel like since, you know, I think that would probably fit you.
A
Or mine would be a library.
C
Oh, that's a great idea.
A
But maybe be a library gym.
B
There's no book Pokemon yet, is there there?
A
Not really. There's not really.
C
Specifically a book.
B
I don't think so.
C
No, I don't think so.
B
I don't think so.
A
I guess I'd go for that, but I'm open to other suggestions. I'm not really sure, but I definitely lean. I think I would lean towards fighting. Or maybe rock.
B
I could see rock as well.
A
Rock could also work, but I'm not sure. Yeah, I'm not really sure.
B
What about court? I'm thinking water or dark.
A
Oh, see, that's interesting. I was thinking electric.
B
I could see electric too. Too.
C
I would see Court doing really well with like the elegant fire ones. Like, I could see Court having like a rapidash, a flareon nine Tails like the very elegant fire.
B
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
A
Court could also be the kind of like the Gemini of it all. Like the, the complete opposites. It could be dark and fairy. You know, it could be like completely like light and dark. Like just completely like back and forth. That would be so cool kind of vibes. I could like a mawa.
C
Yeah, yeah.
A
There could be that, like, I could see like throwing out like a really sweet fairy type. And then I see it as a lot of divas going out there. Like a lot of like, like elegant, almost like pop star. Like I could see it being like a big music venue. Nice type of vibe.
B
Like that sexy bunny.
A
Yeah, I, I, you know the bunny that's hot.
C
Yeah, we know that one. I have a Pokemon name for that in my brain that have always. I don't know where it came from. I know it's lopunny, but in my brain I was like, oh, that's bun bad but fabulous.
B
Well, she is fun babulous. She is fun fabulous.
A
And that's crazy.
B
Who else we got?
A
Okay, let's move on to. Let's move on to a Rasha. I feel like a Rasha is dark type. Like that's like, like the lying and deceit kind of like whatever. There's also. But there's. I. I don't know. There's also. I don't know.
C
I feel Arasha would be for that reason skew more toward like psychic than dark. Because it's more like mind games more than like I'm evil, lying and hurting.
B
I also feel like it would be a psychic.
A
Interesting. See, I saw psychic for Amanda.
C
No, no, no, no.
B
I can see her being like a water type since she's so like, you know, flute and she would have like a whaler.
C
I could see Amanda. This is just my way kid ground. Like she's just very grounded.
B
That's true.
C
And she has like.
B
She could be combo water ground.
A
Amanda can also be grass type with like flowers and just like, like flowers and like, I don't know, like it's a wine vineyard.
B
Yeah, you should have that olive. That olive.
A
Pokemon. Yes.
C
I also forgot to mention I love Applin. The Applin line. The apple dragons. I got a little bag.
A
That's good.
C
I think Chance. Hear me out. I think Chance would be dragon.
A
O. I totally forgot about.
C
Okay. Cuz I think Chance is like the type of person that like when it comes to video games, he's not messing around around. So just be like, I'd be dragon. I'd like destroy everyone and I'm like, actually, yeah, Yeah.
B
I feel like he'd have, like. Like three Dragonite or a better Dragon Pokemon. But, like, you know. You know how it's like a gym leader will just be like, I actually have three of the same one. Yeah, like F you, dude. Yeah, I feel like he'd have that.
A
Yes, that one fits perfectly. Let's see. Angela.
C
Wait a minute. Would Arasha be poison type instead of psychic?
B
Wait, that rocks.
A
Poison is good.
B
I think that works in, like, a cool way.
C
Yeah, yeah, for sure.
A
In a cool way. Like insinuating that she tries to poison people.
B
No, not yet.
C
Not yet.
B
She will watch Bit City in January.
C
I think Angela would be electric.
B
I think so, too.
A
Really?
B
Yeah.
C
Yeah.
B
Because of the energy of it all.
C
She's got that, like, staccato kind of.
A
She would have the loud Pokemon.
C
Loudred.
A
Just exploud.
B
Exploud.
A
Yeah, Just yelling Pokemon on thumbnail face.
C
But it would be like this bright, electric stage. You know, It'd be like, oh, who's.
A
Ready for the performance?
C
And then.
A
Yeah, I see that. Okay, we have Trevor.
B
Trevor.
A
Water. See, Trevor. I could see. I could see, like an ice. I could see fire. Complete opposites. I know, but I see those types of vibes. Maybe fire. I'd go with fire with Trevor.
B
He's also kind of given me normal type, too.
A
He's also. It would be a baker. Bakery. Hear me out. A bakery. So you get some fire.
B
You get those dogs. Those dogs that are made of bread. I think they're normal.
C
Oh, yeah. Fido and.
B
Yeah, yeah.
A
I think you'd just be like. It'd be like baking and cooking themed.
B
Yeah, yeah.
A
So whatever elements.
B
Yeah. Pokemon. Let's break up what we're doing with the types. Let's just themes. That's really fun.
A
I love. They have enough Pokemon to do that.
B
Absolutely.
A
And then it makes you have to prep differently. You're like, what's. What am I gonna face?
C
Right? Yeah.
A
It is probably one of my biggest criticisms.
B
And then Olivia.
A
Bug. No, I'm just kidding.
B
Wait, Actually, though, she hates Bug.
C
I think she hates him.
A
Olivia. I have no idea. It'd probably be everything. Olivia would only send out dittos.
C
Would Angela be bug type? Actually. Okay.
A
Angela could be bug type. No, it'd be funny if Angela's whole thing is she doesn't know anything that she's throwing out. She doesn't recognize, like, I don't know.
C
Some kind of bird. Olivia would be psychedelic psychic. But it would be things like Psyduck. It Would be things like the kind of like.
A
Yes. Yeah. Who are we forgetting? Keith.
C
Keith.
A
Keith and Noah. Ooh. See, Noah's a big Pokemon head too.
B
Is he?
A
He is.
B
I have no idea.
C
I think Noah might be grass.
B
Oh, I can see that.
A
Oh, yeah.
C
For.
A
And I don't know. I don't know why.
C
I see this is very connected to the earth.
B
Yeah. Yeah, I could see that. I think that's. I think that's good. I like that. Okay. Okay.
A
I think.
C
Ooh. Can I pitch something weird?
B
Yes.
C
Keith would be steel because I could see him just being so sleek and having, like, the shiniest, like, outfit, like Michael Jackson.
B
That's.
A
I like that for. I like that for him.
B
I feel like Ian and Anthony would be a duo and they'd make you do duo battles. Like a duo gym where just, like, the two of them, you know. O.
A
Well, Anthony would just throw out the painting. Pokemon.
C
Pokemon. Yes.
A
Yeah. What if.
C
Okay, hear me out. You know how in later games, like, sometimes you have to fight red or blue from, like, the first game. Like, you are your character from the game. I think Ian and Anthony would be like a red and blue duo. So fighting them, it'd be like early Pokemon where it's like, oh, Ian somehow has a Venusaur and a Blastoise for whatever reason. Anthony has, like, a Pidgeotto and a Charizard. Like, I think they would be.
B
They would just be like, Gen 1, full evolved, huge power.
C
Ready to you Up. Alakazam.
A
Okay, Spencer.
B
Ooh, Spencer, I guess you're doing bug type, too.
A
Spencer wouldn't be bug type to me. He's kind of like, what's. It's very similar to you where it's almost like more like, what are the analog Pokemon, you know, like, what are the, like, kind of technology Pokemon. Or he would just. He would just throw out the Pokemon that are just kind of like, like, hear me out. I don't mean this as an insult, but he would send out Snorlax and, like, just kind of like big, like, sleepy guys. Pokemon that are just like, what's up?
B
What's up, guys?
A
I'm just hanging out. Yeah, the giant gorilla. Gorilla that's kind of just like, around slacking. Yeah, Just like, you just be like, hey, what's going on, dude?
B
Horrible guy to play chill Pokemon. Yeah.
A
Maybe he's ice because just, like, chill.
B
Oh, that's bad.
C
I think that would actually be really cool. I could also see him being steel with, like, if you could just imagine Chill Spencer, like, riding on a Steelix like, hey, guys. Pretty cool. But no, I think. I think ice works for him really well.
A
Okay.
B
Nice.
C
Yeah.
B
Should we open this final pack?
A
Let's do it.
B
Okay.
A
Let's open it and then we'll.
B
Can you open it and show me how I'm supposed to do it?
C
Yeah. I mean, these have been kind of like launched.
A
I think we've had these for a long time.
C
Ideally. You're usually able to do it kind of like this. I kind of pull out here, which is not Damien.
A
I did a twitch stream once for Smosh where that was like four years. Four years ago. And I think these might be from then.
B
Well, the one that I had had the messed up Suicune from Scarlet Violet. Oh.
A
So it had to be more recent.
B
The like old. Not real, but old thing.
A
Okay.
B
Do you know about that? Like Paradox Pokemon, the. The end of Scarlet and Violet. It's like. Oh, actually these Pokemon are coming from a different timeline and they were like weird ass. So it's like suicune, but it's like a weird dragon animal.
C
They're either like kind of dinosaur esque for oldie times, or they're like, I am made out of metal now.
A
I am.
B
They just made robot ones. Okay.
C
Got tranquil.
B
Nice.
C
Mr.
B
Mime.
C
Okay, we have Raichu. Sleepy Raichu.
B
Let me see.
C
There's Victini again. Like I said, a weird like fire psychic yet. Yet another Jirachi Domize.
B
Hey, you got it. The algae man.
C
Algae man. Dead kid. Cincinno. Cincinno.
B
That's great.
C
Future booster energy capsule.
A
Okay.
C
Future a second for alligator.
A
Love it.
B
Wow. But not hollow. Was yours holographic?
A
I think so.
C
It's Reverse Hollow.
B
Yeah, yeah. Reverse Hollow.
A
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
C
And this one's plain Reuniclus.
A
Oh. So we got the.
C
The Triple Boy for Tommy and then finally Salvatore.
A
Okay, we got a guy.
C
It's an art rare trainer. It's probably not worth anything.
B
Okay, so what's better here, cuz? The one Shane pulled, he's got the holographic behind the. The for alligator and the one that Damen just pulled. The whole card is holographic, but the art is not. What is more better?
C
Shane's is generally better, I think.
B
Gotcha.
A
Hell yeah.
C
Here's my argument. Only one of us opened up a pack where we were like, oh, holy. This is one of my favorites. And that was Shane.
B
Nice. Got for Alligator also you got the. The full evolution. Go for it.
A
Yeah, dude.
C
And I got Salvatore. He's. He's my look best friend.
A
Ultimately, guys, we had a good time.
B
That's right, a good time.
A
That's all that matters.
B
That's right.
A
And thank you to Pokemon for giving Ian and Anthony something to do back in the day.
B
Yeah, we really appreciate that. Giving us thanks to Pokemon for all this.
C
And if anyone knows where I can find a Beta Chansey or a, you know, the Pokemon Snap Chansey card that is not $30,000, you let me know.
A
Hey, man, do that.
B
You got it.
A
Thanks, Tommy. Thank you for. For joining us.
B
This is a blast. I could talk about this. There's so much more to just really.
A
This. This was a conversation we started to have before we started recording.
B
And then we were like, wait, wait. We had to stop ourselves.
A
This was what we were going to say with. The cameras were off.
B
That's right. Yeah.
C
Pretty crazy.
A
Ray. Quasi.
B
Oh, boy.
A
Anyways, guys, thank you for watching. Thank you for listening. Let us know in the comments what types of gyms you think we would actually run.
B
Yeah, like, for real do that.
A
I'm really curious. I want to know. Put down the list. Give us all our elements. Hey, well, anything's. Anything's game. That's right. All right. And we'll see you next Monday.
B
Bye.
C
Bye.
B
I love you.
C
Bye.
B
Goodbye.
C
Happy birthday.
