A
Meet Keith, loving dad, board game champ, bus driving pro.
B
I drive 65,000 miles in my bus each year. If people knew what I know, lives could be saved. Like how there are some things I simply can't see on my route. The other day, a car tried to sneak past me and ends up right in my blind spot. I turn slowly so accident avoided. But no car should be in the blind spot for a 40,000 pound bus.
C
It's our roads.
B
It's our safety.
D
Visit www.sharetherodesafely.gov hello. Welcome to Smoshmouth. I'm Shane and today I'm joined by two wonderful guests. I'm joined by Olivia and Spencer.
A
What's up?
C
What's up?
D
That's right.
C
That's right.
D
Amanda's gone.
C
Sorry. I'm so sorry. I should stop. What's so immature?
D
Just mocking me immediately. No, Immediately making fun of me.
C
Yeah.
D
So Amanda's gone for the next. For this week and next week because she's. She's in Boston.
A
She shipped up to Boston.
D
She shipped off to Boston.
C
I'm so excited to go to the town.
D
Yeah. We are about to go to Boston tomorrow.
C
Yeah.
D
We're recording this. By the time this airs, we'll have. We'll be back. We're doing our last tour dates, but we're heading to Boston tomorrow. I've never been to Boston with me. Yeah. Have you ever been to Boston before?
C
I don't think so. I get Boston and Philly kind of confused.
A
I've never been to. You just went to Philly.
C
I did just go to Philly and now I know where they are.
A
Can we. Can we ask about that Philly experience? That was crazy.
D
What was. What was Philly like? All I. All I know about Philly. All I know about Philly is we had the basement yard on recently and they said it's a bathroom, so I
C
have no idea what you just said.
D
They're two guys that we're friends with.
C
Oh. Oh. And they're from Philly.
D
They're from Brooklyn or from New York.
C
What are you. We're talking about Philly right now.
D
I know, but they just said they think Philly is a bathroom. So I'm like, that's the only.
C
Philly is really cool. I went to Philly because. Because I went to the World Cup.
D
Whoa. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I saw the footage of field, dude.
C
I know.
B
Yeah.
C
I was a stadium captain.
D
Who were the teams that were playing
C
Paraguay and was it France? France.
D
That's awesome, dude. Mbappe, you got to be out there. With Mbappe.
C
I did. So cool.
D
Sick, dude.
C
So the experience was I went with my very good friend Esti, and we went with Adidas. And our sort of. Our dream was to take our dads to the World Cup. And so they're like, would you like. Well, Esti was like, let's go to the one. And on July 4, like, could be really fun. So we go to Philly. And then, like, two hours before the game, someone texted us and was like, crazy ass. Crazy ass. It was FIFA.
D
It was Mr. FIFA.
C
Mr. FIFA texted us and was like, crazy question. Would you guys want to be the stadium captains for this match? And we're like, we don't know what that is.
D
I don't know what soccer is. Sorry. Football.
C
I don't know what this is. And they sent us a photo of, like, Samuel L. Jackson putting a ball on a stand.
A
He's just like, me, for real.
C
And he was like, that's.
A
I was like, they sent us a
D
photo from Samuel L. Jackson from Black Snake Bone. And they're like, have you seen this movie?
C
Have you seen this movie?
A
And you're like, yeah, it was pretty crazy.
D
Yeah, it was a weird movie.
C
So I was like, okay, sold. And then I was like, great. And then we just had like. They're like, FIFA was, like, walking us out, and they're like, you have 60 seconds to put the ball on the thing. And we're like, what is the significance? And they're like, well, this is the ball that they're going to play with. I was like, okay, that's pretty sick. And then so we, like.
A
Did you, like, with it at all?
D
Yeah, like, put some pine tar on it.
C
Yeah, I, like, buttered it up.
A
Yeah.
D
Yeah, you buttered it up.
C
I, like, poked holes in it.
D
Yeah.
C
And that's what Paraguay lost. No, I'm just kidding. I didn't do.
D
I didn't do that. FIFA is going to come for.
C
You know. I didn't do any of that. This is. This.
D
You're fine. Both of those teams. By the time we're recording this, both those teams are out.
A
Like, I feel like you would have licked it or something.
C
Licked it?
D
Yeah, because then Mbappe would have licked it later.
A
Yeah.
D
It's like, oh.
C
Because they all lick the balls after the game.
D
I think it's part of the. At least France does that. I don't know.
C
Yeah, it was really fun. And then.
D
Yeah, that's awesome. Did you guys get into the World Cup? It's not over right now. As we're recording this but it's like, me personally.
A
Like, no, I was not invited.
D
Well, no, like, did you watch? I'm saying, did you watch the game?
A
Yeah, I watched enough. I. Well, I'm a. I'm a doordash member. So, like, you know, they were like, hey, who do you want to bet on? Oh, right in the door.
C
What? What?
A
So I Googled. I was like, who's going to win the World Cup? And Google was like, probably France. So I bet France.
C
Sorry, sorry. Doordash. The food delivery.
A
The food delivery. When you signed in, it was like, hey, pick your team to win the World cup and we're going to split 5 million DoorDash bucks amongst everyone who picked that.
C
Is that illegal?
D
I don't know. Single app is becoming a gambling app at this point.
A
And, like, you know, if it comes, like, you know, what if we got into it, Timothy Chalamet said it's okay.
D
Timothy Chalamet says gambling is cool.
A
Now, I don't know if I told the story, like, but, you know, when everyone's like, oh, the. You know, Timothy Chalamet did the ad for, like, the call she thing or Kelsey.
D
Yeah. I was like, she.
A
I genuinely. I was like, I don't get what the big deal is. Like, the cereal is. Okay. And, like, I, Like, I. I fully thought that, like, people were like. I was like. I was like, is there like a. A controversy with that cereal?
D
That's so funny.
A
Kashi Crunch. Yeah, yeah.
C
No, it's like, kashi.
A
Kashi. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, I just.
D
You thought. I. I thought it too. It sounds like a cereal.
A
I was like, yeah, it's the cereal.
D
Yeah.
A
Timothy Chalamet.
C
Like, you know, I don't know what's going on. I've been off of social media this whole week.
D
You're totally fine. This has been years of buildup, right? Like, gambling apps have just gotten out of control, and you can now gamble on things you shouldn't be able to gamble on.
A
Right?
D
Like political shit. And then Love island was on this, and there was so much gambling around that, and people were like, hey, wait, like, there are producers who know info ahead of time. Oh, how is this work?
A
Yeah, I love people reinventing insider trading.
D
Yeah.
A
I'm just like, poly markets.
D
Yeah, yeah, it's.
A
The markets are poly.
C
The markets are all poly.
A
Yeah. No, but like, that. Do you guys remember when Martha Stewart got arrested and stuff like that?
D
What did she get arrested for?
A
Was it not insider trading?
C
It was insider trading, but, like, I
A
remember insider trading being explained to me at the time. And I was like. And I was like, that sounds smart as hell. Like, why aren't more people doing this? And then I was explaining to me, they were like, well, it's a crime. And I was like, okay. Like, okay. It's kind of like the more you learn about tax evasion, it's kind of like, oh, I kind of get why.
D
Oh, that sounds really.
C
And money laundering, too.
A
Yeah. Yeah.
C
Like, I get it.
A
I'm starting to. I'm, like, starting to get white collar crime more.
D
I love that. Selena. Selena. Before we started this episode was like, so basically this episode, you guys can talk about whatever you want. And we got into how we love insider trading.
C
We don't love it. I didn't say we. We understand.
D
No, you love money.
A
I'm just saying if I were in the position to insider trade, like, I would think about it. Like, would you guys not.
D
I get what you're saying. It's like you basically get the, like, it's kind of a deal with the devil situation where it's like, hey, do you want a million dollars?
A
Yeah. It's like, it's.
D
Oh, well, if I could have $1 million right now. Sure.
A
Yeah.
D
It must feel. I bet for people who are. It feels. They must feel trade. They must feel so good. But it also must be like, to them, they make it make sense in their head.
A
Oh, yeah.
D
Of like, oh, I'm already doing. Oh, no. It's just. It's just that I. They probably convince themselves, like, no, I'm just good at predicting the market.
A
Yeah. I'm so good.
D
No man tells me you literally.
A
Yeah, I'm saying, like, on the scale of crime, though, not probably not that bad.
C
And that's why they.
D
I don't know, go to those things. Those massive, like, white collar things. Actually, I think the world up so much.
A
Yeah, true. But, like, if I were benefiting from.
D
It's not.
A
It's.
D
The problem is that it doesn't look like. It doesn't look like a guy actively killing a guy. But you're. You are theoretically robbing. You're like, up the market so much that you are robbing people. And I guess, yeah, we're like, convincing
C
him that it's not.
D
So you really should be a bummer about it. Yeah, yeah. It'd be kind of. What if we started to see that there were bets for smosh?
A
Like, that's what I'm saying. Would you not like, it'd be.
D
It'd be like, Shane's gonna lose flip seven. It's like, and I get so close to flipping seven. I'm like. But I bet 50 grand on myself. That's what I'm saying. You're talking about like on and like back in the day when the mafia used to fix boxing matches.
A
Yes.
C
Oh yeah.
D
It's like go down in the fifth.
C
I'm trying to think there were other like matches that people were getting in trouble.
D
Everything, everything. Like every, every, almost every professional sport has had moments where it was fully fixed. There was a major.
A
Ever seen Speed Racer?
D
I don't know if I have Scott here, but there was a big one back in the day in the like twenties. I think one of the like big baseball teams like fixed their, one of their matches and it was like a big deal or like they, they like lost on purpose or something. Maybe I'm completely wrong.
C
No, no, I think you're right. I did hear about baseball being one of those sports where. Oh like the baseball players would.
D
Yeah.
C
Be involved in the mafia.
D
Oh, sure, right. I mean back in the 20s, my assumption is every famous person you had to deal with the Mafia. That, and that's, that's something I could probably research and find out is probably not true.
A
But I won't.
D
But I enjoy thinking about how crazy the world was in the twenties.
A
I mean you talk, well, you talk about like Vegas, I think like even past the 20s. But like, you know, the history of Vegas. The history, like the early history of Los Angeles, like with the water and stuff like that. Like the water rackets.
D
I don't know much about the water rackets.
A
You've seen Chinatown?
D
Yeah, I have not watched Chinatown.
C
You gotta read the book about Chinatown. Oh, one of my favorite books.
D
Okay.
C
Big Goodbye.
A
Big Goodbye.
C
Big Goodbye. Yeah. Oh, it's about the making of Chinatown.
B
Wow.
C
I always get forget, is it the last goodbye or the Big Goodbye? I don't know. It's one of them. And I love the book so much. Um, also I'm reading East of Eden right now.
A
Speaking of Steinbeck.
D
I, I have had that book on my bookshelf. Truly, I'm entire adult life and I've never read it. I read Grapes of Wrath.
A
Shane has it for when he has women over.
D
Yeah. I, whenever people are over, I'm like, oh yeah, reading East Bean. No, but people constantly have that in their top three.
A
I know, it's incredible.
C
And it's like about the early. Southern California, like move to California.
D
Yeah, yeah. No, Steinbeck's incredible. Like I, I love his writing. I just haven't read that one. Cause it's a big book. It's a bit of a daunting.
C
It is a big book, but I'm like, I'm not ready for it to be over. I just know this is one of. This is gonna be one of the books where I'm like, I'm never gonna read another book like this.
A
No.
D
It consistently is, like, people are like, that is a top 10 book of all time.
C
That's how I felt about tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow and Secret History.
D
Oh, secret History. Yeah. I read that this year.
C
I know. I saw.
D
And I also read one of your favorites On Earth were Briefly gorgeous.
A
Right?
C
I saw. Oh, my God. How did you feel?
D
It's beautiful. That was poetry.
C
Crushed my soul.
D
Yeah.
C
Oh, my gosh.
D
But truly wonderful writing.
A
Have you guys read Ready Player One?
D
Yeah, No, I have.
C
Have you guys ever read Wii Sports?
D
You throwing that ball and me going, Yeah, I have read it.
C
Have you ever read Mario Party?
A
I've read the manual.
D
Yeah, I've read the manual.
A
Yeah.
D

C
I have a question.
D
What's up?
C
When you read On Earth, We're Briefly Gorgeous, did you cry?
D
I didn't cry, but it was. It was.
C
I left.
D
I don't cry too often with books, especially if they're not like. Not for some reason. It has to be like narrative in a way to get me. Whereas on earth we're briefly. Gorgeous is written so, like, poetically, where it bounces back and forth between memories that it doesn't. It's not gonna get me in that way. But I was kind of more mesmerized by how good the writing was and how perfectly he was capturing moments.
A
He's a pros guy.
D
I mean, truly, some books I read, I'm like, the prose is just amazing.
A
Yeah.
D
Whereas I. Story will get my emotions. More prose. I'm more like, oh, that's. This is amazing. Like, I'm kind of, like, fascinated by, like, how smart some people can write, like, how well they write. Whereas. Yeah, it has to, like, have a story with, like, the. The right type of arc will then get me tomorrow.
C
Tomorrow. And tomorrow left me sobbing.
D
Yeah, that part has that. That has an intense.
C
Because it has the prose, but mostly story.
D
Yeah.
C
It has one of my favorite quotes, which is the Emily Dickinson quote about that love is all that there is. Love is like the freight. Should be.
D
I'm sure I know what you're talking about.
C
Should be Selena.
D
Can you pull up Emily Dickinson famous
A
quote, Elle Fanning as Emily Dickinson walks out?
D
Yeah, like, thank you.
A
Wait, was she Emily Dickinson? No, she was. She played Mary Shelley. That's my bad.
D
Mary Shelley.
A
I think Elle Fanning played Mary Shelley.
D
Oh, cool.
C
She's been.
A
She does a lot.
D
She does so much stuff.
C
The freight should be that love is
A
all there is, is all we know of love. It is enough.
D
The freight should be proportion.
C
Yes, the. The freight should be proportioned to the groove.
D
I love that.
A
What is that? What is like, freight?
C
Love is like.
A
Like cargo.
C
Yeah.
D
Love is cargo, man.
C
Love is cargo.
A
Cargo fast.
C
Cargo fast.
D
Cargo fast. Gone in 60 seconds.
A
Yes.
D
Yeah. No, that book is incredible.
A
I've been reading this book about, you know, this parasite that kind of takes over human bodies and, you know, can kind of replicate their. It's like an old sci fi book. I want to say it's Philip K. Dick or something like that.
D
Nice.
A
It might be Heinlein. I don't know.
D
You read a lot of messed up shit.
A
Yeah. I feel like whenever you're reading, like, concepts, I'm like a concepts. I need like, a good log line where it's like. Oh, it's about if. Like, if, like, there was a group of people who figured out how to use their feet for evil or something like that.
C
Yeah, you can write that. I feel like you could write a book.
A
Yeah. Oh, I love like, genre. Like, you know, I need. I need a hook like that.
C
Yeah.
A
I don't use for, like. Like, if you're like. If you say slice of life, I'm like, okay, what's the. Like, slicing into life with a knife.
D
You are a big sci fi guy. I feel like when you're talking about reading, like, yeah, sci fi and horror, like, because you love Frankenstein, the book. Like, you were obsessed with that book.
A
I feel like, oh, yeah.
C
Should I read Frankenstein?
D
It's an incredible book.
C
Prose or story?
A
Both. I think it's one of the greatest stories ever told.
D
It is incredible. And it is like. It's the creation of cyber.
C
You're gonna catch me reading that on the plane tomorrow.
A
It's good. It's got. It's got great. Yeah. And like, pros on. Pros on point.
C
Okay.
D
Yeah. No, Mary Shelley. Mary Shelley was a freak. She kept her lover's heart in her desk for, like, years. Right?
A
I don't know.
D
That's true. Can we fact check on that?
A
We'll be doing, like, she'd had, like,
D
a human heart in her desk that was, like, her stress ball.
C
What?
D
I'm just kidding that. Not about that part, but she had a human heart in her desk, I
C
think, apparently, it's a calcified heart of
A
her husband, Percy Bish.
C
Honestly, romance.
D
Yeah.
A
A heart can calcify. What's that? Like, does it get, like, chalky?
C
Does this get smelly? Oh, I imagine I saw a coyote carcass yesterday.
D
Oh, shit.
C
Oh. This is the thing that I was supposed to save and not.
D
Okay, I tell you. Hit us. Hit us.
C
And this is what Selena was like, save it, Save it. And I'm like, but I'm just talking to Spenny. She was like, save it.
D
Okay.
C
So the past week, I was in this place called Sea Ranch.
D
Sea Ranch.
C
Sea Ranch up north.
D
Okay.
C
I flew into Sonoma, I rented a car, and I drove, like, an hour and 40 minutes to this place called Sea Ranch. And I just spent a few days there. Not on social media, just sort of abandoned my phone.
D
Cool.
C
And I walked a lot. Meditated reading, worked a little bit. And that was what I was saving to tell you guys.
A
That sounds an offline.
C
I've been offline. And so I was, like, looking at Instagram through his phone and Andrew's phone, because I'm like, oh, my God. This is what I've been missing. Nothing.
A
Yeah, I told her about Lindsey Graham.
D
Oh, that's awesome.
A
Yeah.
C
Yeah. And I.
D
That had to be really hard for you. Yeah, you were probably really.
C
I actually knew about the Lindsey Graham stuff because when I was.
D
You felt it.
C
Yeah, I felt it.
D
You're like, a disturbance is happening.
C
I'm like. I'm like, whoa, I almost fell off the cliff.
D
You were on a cliff?
C
Yes.
D
Damn.
A
She's up there. It's like she was showing me pictures of it.
D
Whoa.
A
It's a gorgeous. Like, it's renowned, kind of for its architectural. I encourage you at home to look up pictures. S E a ranch.
D
Okay.
C
It's really beautiful. There's no town. There's, like, one grocery store that's 10 miles away.
D
So you're just really isolated.
C
I was really isolated. There's nothing really to do besides walk. Go to the beach. But you don't really go in the water. You're just, like, hanging out at the beach. Yeah. There's very quiet.
D
There is definitely a euphoria you get when you can avoid your phone, and then you get bored, but you push past that. Boredom.
C
Yes.
D
And it's like, it is boredom, right? Like, because boredom is where, like, creativity is spurned from. And so, like, when I'm able to avoid it enough, I feel so good. And that's when I suddenly have ideas and stuff.
C
Can I be honest with you guys?
D
What's up?
C
Not being on my phone, not being on social media has made me go, do you. Do I think I can do this job, the job that we do, without being on social media? Because I find that it's such a distraction for me. And as much as I know that this is our job and we have to be online, like, I really. Sometimes I'm like, I don't want to be.
A
You don't want to be online?
C
Yeah. No. I don't know.
A
I don't think you have to be online.
C
Like, can I do this job without having a social media presence?
A
I think so.
D
I think you can. I. There's something really interesting. I have a few thoughts on this. One is there's a quote. I was listening to Caleb Heron's podcast once, and he was talking about how, like, his podcast blew up when he kind of, like, stopped doing a ton of stuff on social media and just fully, just was, like, all in on his podcast, and it kind of made, like, the focus was just there. But I think that that can work for some people, not work for others. But in his case, like, kind of being off of other social medias helped him. I also think what I'm trying to work on, because I am a very, like, I don't post that often. But I am online a lot. Like, I think it's about being intentional, like, with what you do online. Right. It's like scrolling, I do think is bad for me. Like, I'm like, what is this? What am I doing? But going on to Instagram to look at people's stories, to see what people are up to. If I'm like, hey, for the next five minutes, I'm going to go check what all my friends are posting on their stories. And I'm doing that very intentionally. And then I'm getting off, like, I'm doing a task or I'm doing a thing as opposed to just like being on my phone. I think just being on social media is bad because it's kind of like mindless and it is just distraction. But if it's like, oh, I'm going to go on TikTok and I'm going to post a TikTok, or like, I'm going to go on there and search for a thing. But that's like going with a purpose. But oftentimes we pull it up and it's like, why am I pulling it up right now? It's purely so I can stop thinking right now, or because I can't handle being alone with my thoughts for a second, that's speaking just for myself. Yeah, Yeah.
A
I think it's certainly different for everyone because for me, I find a lot of inspiration from being online. Like, you know, a lot of our ideas for like, games, videos or even, like, discussion topics. Yeah. Just kind of in day to day to me, I get from online.
D
Yeah.
A
And there's a lot of humor online that I really enjoy, for sure. Like Twitter.
D
You find the gold on Twitter.
A
I think my Twitter feeds just. It's like, I think I get served all the really funny stuff and I really enjoy.
C
You send it to me.
A
Sure.
C
Maybe in a week.
D
I. Yeah. I honestly sometimes feel like I don't need to look at Twitter because you send me the funny stuff.
A
Thank you.
D
And I'm like, great, thank you. I don't have to look through all the, like, horrible stuff.
C
You need to send it to me.
A
Yeah, Yeah. I don't think I. I'm trying to think of, like, what stuff, you know, because I definitely have, like, chance and I'll send each other stuff. You know, Anders and I will send each other stuff. You know, I'll send stuff to Shane, Trevor, and it's like, you know, some stuff I will know. I'm like, oh, I could send this to all of them or some of like, oh, this is like, just for Trevor. Yeah, just for Shane.
D
Just niche. You wouldn't get it. Yeah, you wouldn't get it.
A
You wouldn't get it. No, but, like, I. Like, there are definitely things that I think you would like that they probably wouldn't like, and it's just fair. Right now I'm probably not getting served those, because I'm not. I think it'll show me stuff that is akin to what I am sending out.
D
But now that our phones are listening in on this conversation, it'll start serving you that stuff.
C
Yeah.
A
Yeah.
D
So you're gonna be. You'll have some stuff.
C
I'm not gonna really be on my phone until Saturday.
D
Okay.
C
After I have a lobster roll.
D
Oh.
C
And then.
D
All right.
A
Scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll city, scroll city.
D
I still think about something because Eddie Burback did this great video where he locked up his phone for a month. He's like. Was off. He put it in, like, a safe, like, time safe. And he. But what he talked about, like, why he wanted to try it was. He's like, if you're scrolling for like, half an hour to an hour on your phone, on Reddit, Twitter, TikTok, whatever, He's like, after you're done scrolling, ask yourself, what did you just watch and consume? And I. I realized I'm like, man, most of the time I can't, like, I don't know.
C
You can't retain any information.
D
I'm not retaining. This isn't, like, beneficial, but it's hitting that part of your brain that's the, like, reward complex of, like, oh, yeah. Like, oh, yes, I need that. Another hit the B spot. But it's not the brain spot. But, yeah, I have to ask myself that sometimes. And I think it's okay for things not be productive, but I'm just like. It's asking myself, what am I being entertained, though? Because I've made the joke of, like, what do my cats think of my phone? And they were like, oh, he looks at the mirror. That pisses him off. Like, that's. That's what it is. It's like, oh, he picks up that rock. That. That makes him mad.
C
Totally.
D
Because that's often what it is. I'm just like. I look and I'm like, this isn't. I'm not reading the news. I'm like, if I'm scrolling through Reddit,
A
I'm reading, oh, see, if I read the news, I'm getting pissed off.
D
I'll get pissed off. But I think, like, I think there is importance to Reading the news, right? But it's important to read the news. I don't need to read everyone's breakdown of the news or interpretation of the news. I'm like, the news is the news.
A
I need Tucker.
D
I need. I'm like. I'm like, yeah, there's a diarrhea parasite. I don't need to read a million.
A
See, I need all the.
D
There's a lot of great jokes on.
A
I need all the diary meme.
D
And the jokes are good.
C
Oh, that's what I missed. I actually did hear about this diarrhea
D
parasite, which hopefully by the time this airs, what if we have all died from it? I don't think anybody's died from it.
C
Anyone's dying from it yet.
D
It just. It just sucks. Really bad. Yeah, it's just.
A
I had diarrhea a couple days ago.
C
Oh.
A
But I don't think it was that.
D
No, you would know if it was that.
A
But, like, it was pretty bad. But it was like. It was like. It was just like one.
D
Nah, man. That was just all you.
A
That was all me.
D
That was your choices.
A
Yeah, it was. It was my. It was my choices.
D
I could proudly say it's been a long time for me. It's been a. It's been.
A
I definitely don't get it often.
D
So we've. We've gone from talking about gambling to diarrhea.
C
Well, insider trading.
D
Insider trading to insider.
C
Insider poop and locking up our phones.
D
Yeah.
C
But also, I just.
A
I would get fired so fast if I locked up my phone.
C
Same.
D
Oh, yeah, we do.
C
I was still on Slack. Like, I was still. I was like, hey, Selena, how does Instagram look right now? Can you take some screenshots?
A
Yeah, hey, just. Just scroll and just.
D
Just screen record Instagram look.
C
But I do think, like, being out by yourself in nature, you definitely have. I definitely gained nothing.
D
Fuck that place.
A
Like, I should have been insider trading.
C
Inside trading.
A
I should have been inside insider trading.
D
Have you guys gone. It's dumb out there. Nothing interesting.
C
64 degrees.
D
Boring.
A
Outsider trading.
D
Whoa.
C
I. But like, being alone. You.
B
You.
C
You hear like other couples, like, not being.
D
You're just eavesdropping.
C
No, they were talking very loudly. Okay.
D
You're somehow do it like you're just on social media, but outside.
C
Well, also. Okay, can I also just say something that's actually okay? The social media aspect of it is like, because we are. We have this public presence. It feels so strange to post a picture of yourself and get so many comments being like, wow, yes. Like, I just don't think. I don't know. I think there's. There's something, like, cool to step away from that, you know, and like, realize, like, that's not really normal.
D
I do think I. It's like, so early on that there's probably not enough, like, studies on this stuff.
C
But.
D
But I don't necessarily think our brains were built to handle the. This stuff. Right. Of, like, thousands of people talking about you immediately.
C
Right.
D
It's just. It's hard. It's impossible to comprehend maybe.
A
I think that's what it is for me. I can't comprehend.
D
Yeah, it's absolutely bizarre. I mean, like, look, social media is absolutely bizarre. A crazy, crazy thing.
C
Also, I think the constant validation of people either disliking you or praising you through social media is maybe a little unhealthy. And you really have to, like, check your. I have to check myself and be like, oh, like, it's not real. I mean, it is real, but it's
D
also like, you have to kind of have a layer of, of, of like, awareness. Move yourself a little bit from it. Right?
C
Yeah.
D
Because you see creators who get two in it, both either in the hate or the praise, and it's like, hey, that. This, this is different. Like, you cannot have that be your reality because it's a weird other place.
A
But yeah, I mean, the real world, I mean, this is gonna sound so stonery, but it's like the real world just feels so real, like sitting and talking with, like, another human being. I'm like, what's, what's more real and normal than that?
D
Yeah. And like a comment's just like, I think what I. What I think really turns social media in a different direction. What is like the, the algorithmic nature of it nowadays? Whereas back in the day, the Internet used to be like, you all checked in. It's like we're all seeing the same thing. We're all coming to the same place. Whereas now, because it's. It's kind of sequestering people to their different bubbles and it's like, algorithmically making this thing for you. I think it's twisting it. And now it's become more like a matrix than it used to be. It used to be like, oh, we're all coming together, communicating here. But now there's something like it is. It is actively influencing you. Right. And I think that's what I'm realizing. I'm like, this is. What's scary is that it's trying to show me what I want. But now that's a bad feedback. Loop as opposed to you go on and like, you're not going to ever be like, seeing something and be like, we all, we all saw the same thing. I don't know. It's.
A
No, but like, like, even like on Twitter and, you know, this is a dangerous topic to discuss, you know, smosh, Twitter, stuff like that. But any of those, you are essentially seeing such a small microcosm, but if it gets served you a lot, you think, oh, that's reflective of an entire fan base. But it's like, no, this is. You put that number in the context of, like, who actually watches or something like that. And it is. So I'm not saying it's a. It's a voice that doesn't matter. It's just. It is a relatively small voice. And I remember learning about the fucking. The silent minority when learning about, like, American history and like politics throughout the ages. And that was always such a fascinating, fascinating where it's like, you know, you have this outspoken people who are like, you know, we want this. We want like X and Y in terms of, you know, someone to run for a candidate or something like that. But you have like 70 plus percent of people just sitting at home, not engaging on that level, but still having opinions. And then I think is what we have with Smosh, where it's like, you know, we can do something and there will be 5% of the audience has this really outspoken opinion, but there is 95% who, you know, is never gonna comment on a video, never going to comment on any of our pages, not going to engage with it on a level beyond watching it and being like, oh, that was fun.
D
Yeah. It's what's heartbreaking when we make something that we're like, all of us here, like, this is like the best thing we've ever made. And all the comments are like, this is the best thing you've ever made. But it gets so many less views than typical. It's like, oh, that it sucks. Cause then we have to interpret like, oh, a majority of people didn't care for this, but they're not saying anything. But they didn't watch it. Like, they didn't. Or maybe they didn't hate it, but they just didn't care to watch it or they started it. And so it's like, oh, but the people who watched it loved it more than anything else. And that's hard sometimes.
A
You, you, you, you know, it's that fucking, oh, one for me, one for them, or whatever. The one for us, one for them, which is always such A funny.
D
Yeah. And I do think we. We do make things plenty of the time where we're like, this maybe won't be a hit, but we are passionate.
A
Oh, I'll definitely selfishly do things. That's kind of.
D
Yeah.
A
That was kind of how the whole Resident Evil thing started. I was like, look, like this some I really like. And you know, when I'm gonna take advantage of the opportunity that I have to, you know, what a unique, cool thing to just be able to, like, oh, like, I get to choose the game we play and I play it with. And then when it. When that resonates with people's like, holy shit.
D
Yeah.
A
Crazy.
D
I think the big thing that I think I feel so sad about with social media and this is always the case with the Internet, but I think really now more than ever is, like, it's just not a place where I feel, like, discourse and, like, genuine conversation can happen. It's just not designed that way. It is actively designed counter to that. It's designed. I think it's designed to make arguments happen because they know arguments are going to keep people there, but it's not going to resolve anything. So they just have to stay there. Like, it's impossible to have a real good, like, actual, like, back and forth.
C
I just think it just keeps continuing. Feeding the beast.
D
Yeah, exactly. They want the beast to keep growing.
C
Yeah. It's like you stay on the app longer.
D
Yeah.
C
And you're arguing with some.
D
Well, being pissed off is addictive.
C
Yeah.
D
Like, we saw it with Fox News for so long. And then, like, I caught myself a couple times with social media where I'm like, oh, I'm no different than, like, the people that I've criticized who, like, just watch the 24 hour news cycle and are just mad all day. I'm like, I'm. I'm kind of doing the same thing where you get kind of hooked on, like.
C
And that is why the World cup is so cool. It brings people together.
D
Yeah. And there's no controversy ever.
C
Ever. Everyone's having a good time.
D
All good. And it's. It's like, super fine. This episode of Smoshmouth is sponsored by Zocdoc. Life can be chaotic. Someone here at Smosh learned that the hard way while taking out the pit of an avocado. This is a true story. She was using a brand new knife. Wouldn't you know it? The knife went straight into the pit and into her finger. She needed to find an urgent care stat, which, after freaking out a little, she managed to do by going to ZOC DO with ZOC dock, she found an urgent care within her network that was right around the corner. The good news is she got stitches and everything was fine. ZOC DO lets you search and compare local. In network, doctors appointments happen fast, usually within 24 to 72 hours. And sometimes there are same day appointments available. I had been pushing off doctor's appointments for so long, I was so, I don't know, afraid of trying to book a doctor because it just felt so complicated and the app made it so simple. My fears washed away. Your health matters and taking care of yourself shouldn't be complicated. Find and book the right doctor with Zocdoc. Head to Zocdoc.com smosh mouth to get started and check that appointment off your to do list. That's Zocdoc.com Smoshmouth now back to the show. Just been doing the classic lately. Feels good. So a question we're gonna, I'm gonna ask right now, maybe more in future episodes is how long do you microwave your ice cream for? When you get ice cream out of the freezer, how long do you microwave it for?
A
I like it hard.
D
Fuck you, man.
A
What about you?
C
I don't microwave my ice cream.
A
Yeah, that's a wipe.
C
I also don't have a microwave.
D
You don't have a microwave? I believe that.
A
I didn't have a microwave in college for.
C
Okay, so we did have a microwave. Okay. And I would store it in the guest room closet and every time I needed it, I would bring it out and then when I finished using it, I would put it back in the guest room closet.
A
They're unsightly machines.
C
They're ugly.
A
Yeah.
C
But then I was like, you know what? This, it's just gonna go on the counter.
D
So you do have a microwave.
C
Not anymore. No.
D
You got to me like I would
A
keep a microwave around for like popcorn.
C
My friend gave me a microwave for my birthday.
A
That was so sweet of me.
D
Microwaves are perfect for leftovers. I love laughing because I meal prep. And so then I throw it all in the microwave.
C
How long heat it up for.
D
For meal prep stuff. It's anywhere like. Cause I don't need shit to be piping hot.
C
Oh, I need it to be scalding hot. It's never more than Asian thing, right? Yeah. Is it an Asian thing?
D
I've got a little baby mouth when it comes to hot.
C
Stop, you guys.
D
I cannot handle hot. I can like.
A
Agreed.
D
I actually I. I have like a semi like sort of like thermos. You know cup for coffee and I kind of hate it. I hate thermoses a little bit because when I pour hot liquid into there, it stays hot. I'm mad. I'm mad. Cause I'm like an hour later and I still can't drink this.
A
Oh, I, I hate burning my tongue.
D
I don't.
C
Oh my God, my tongue. 99% time is burnt. I love scalding hot foods.
D
I don't miss me with that. I literally.
C
Oh my God.
A
So when are you microwaving your ice cream?
D
So, so you get the ice cream out of the freezer. It's so friggin hard that you can barely like get the change their freezer temperature. I probably. Well, yeah, but, but like if I can dig into a little bit, I'm like, it just sucks. I want. Oh, I want that smooth scoop.
C
Then go to, then go to McConnell's. Go to an ice cream shop.
A
Yeah, McConnell's. Like we'll just give you that.
D
Well, when you get ice cream at a shop. When you get ice cream at a shop, it's not super hard. It has like a softer.
C
That's what I'm saying.
D
So go to home, you put it in your freezer. It's harder than when I genuinely think you have a.
A
Like your freezer is set too cold.
C
Yeah.
D
It's not like rock hard. It's just like I want it to be like. I want the spoon to like go in.
C
So go to an ice cream shop.
D
No, I'm at home. What if it's midnight and I'm at home and I want some ice cream for my freezer?
A
So I get the. I've been getting the whole foods had like a 50% off all their, their frozen stuff.
C
This happened. I saw this last year.
A
This was like weeks ago. So I stocked up on their, their organic fudge bars. It's like, it's. But it's basically frozen chocolate ice cream and they are so fucking good. And they come out and they're like. It's the perfect. I'm picky about texture.
D
Yeah.
A
Surprise. But it's like a wait actually. Yeah, but it is a perfect like hardness to the chocolate ice cream.
C
I want it.
A
I've got like two left. So come through. Yeah.
C
No, for real.
A
Yeah.
C
Can I come tonight?
A
Sure.
C
Really?
A
Yeah.
C
What time?
D
She's. When Olivia. I feel like when Olivia does this, she's serious.
A
Oh, I know. You haven't shown been to our place, right?
C
No, I'd love to come.
A
Yeah, we would love to have you Sheen and Court.
D
We're Right now? Yeah, yeah, right now. Heading there right now.
C
Went over to his house. Yeah, I know you guys had weekend plans.
D
You guys had, like, a really cool.
A
Oh, you're. Oh, well, you guys are both out this weekend.
D
Yeah.
A
No, but that was the first time you guys have been to.
D
I had never been. I'd never been to one.
C
You can invite me over to your house this week.
A
You've never been to any of my places.
C
I don't think I can go to the Boston show. I have plans.
D
You have to go hang out with Spencer.
C
I gotta go to Spencer's house.
D
Sorry. That's just.
C
How is. How is his place?
D
Awesome.
C
Really?
D
Designed very well.
C
Really?
D
I was like, damn, like, I need to take some pointers.
C
How do you guys feel about someone going to your house and looking into your fridge?
A
I don't care.
D
I don't care.
A
Oh, I'm a snoopy dude.
C
But you wouldn't do that if you came to my. You would open my fridge.
A
I feel like I did do that.
D
I'm a very, like, when it comes to food and drinks. Like, I. When people come over, I'm like. I'm like, you're allowed to have anything.
C
No, no. But would you go do that in someone else's house? Open their fridge?
D
No, I would ask. I would. I would. Maybe. But I don't care too much about what's in people's fridges.
A
Oh, dude. Yeah, I'm going in there.
D
You've been over to our place. Have you peeped the fridge?
B
Yes.
D
What'd you think?
A
Nice.
D
Thanks.
A
Great drinks, like, you know, how does
C
your fridge look like? That's.
D
I feel like I'm pretty proud of, like, the amount of, like, fresh produce that we have.
C
Like, y' all go to the farmer's market.
D
Oh, yeah. Get all my stuff. But yeah. So this. This parasite thing is really scaring me because, like, I'm a fresh produce guy.
A
Yeah. It doesn't.
D
So I'm like, me at all. I love. I love that stuff. So they're asking me to give up the thing. I'm like, oh, no. I have to eat Oreos and donuts for the next two weeks.
C
Oh, it's in fresh produce, isn't it? Only the East Coast, I think it's kind of.
A
They say it's spreading.
C
It's spreading.
D
The. The spinach is blowing in the wind and it's.
A
No.
C
Oh, my God.
A
What did. It becomes, like, stopping me in the face.
D
Oh, it's like the spinach. It's the happening.
C
No, it Is the happening.
D
Yeah, the bees. Does nobody care about the bees?
C
Oh, no. This is happening right now. I hope we don't get sick.
D
Someone who's listening to this podcast who doesn't know any of the references we've made, and they're so confused. They never read Ready Player One. They haven't seen the happening.
A
Ready, Player One.
D
Fucking sucks.
C
But you got them with the microwave and ice cream.
D
I didn't mind.
A
I listened to the audiobook. It was when we were at Defy and I would drive into Defy and I would listen to that book and I would just be like, man, this sucks.
D
It takes a lot for me to hate a book. I think my imagination. I'll pull a lot of heavy lifting to try to like, like a book.
C
Really? I give it up.
D
Yeah. Yeah. Think harder. No, I, I enjoyed. Like, I, I think I'm good at. When I'm reading a book or I'm watching a movie, I kind of quickly try to tap into them. Like, okay, what, what's the vibe of this? Yeah, like, what is this going for here? Like, is this. Am I taking this seriously? Is this just like, like silly, silly time? And I think I know I was reading Ready Player One. I was like, this is. This is silly time. I need to tap into my, like, hate it. I need to tap into my 15 year old brain. Just enjoy the references. Like, I, I do that for things. Yeah, I've talked about that. Like, I do that with Star Wars. Like Star Wars. I'm very much like, hey, I'm. I'm here to be entertained. I'm here to see cool visuals and stuff. I'm not gonna pick apart the things too.
A
Yeah. Did you wind up seeing back rooms? No, dude, I watched it. How was it two nights ago? I really liked it.
D
I'm glad you really liked it because I've heard mixed things. I went and saw it in theaters by myself and because I saw it like last minute opening weekend and I really enjoyed it. But I love the back rooms and like talking to Kane Parsons, which we all did.
C
We all talked to Parsons.
D
But see, like, I talked to him about Serious and you guys made him do six, seven. The disrespect.
A
Hey, no, but like, I wish I had seen the movie before talking to him because I have so many legitimate questions about.
C
Let's have him back on.
A
Let's have him back. Awesome's on. But I really, I even sent him a DM after I watched the movie. I was like, I was like, no, he didn't.
D
No, he hasn't responded to me either.
A
I think busy. I think he's really, really busy.
D
I. I imagine he's busy or he's stuck in the back rooms.
A
Speaking of movies, what's up?
C
I watched a movie by myself two weeks ago.
D
Okay.
C
Called the Invite.
A
I heard it was pretty good.
C
It was so funny. Have you heard of this movie?
A
It's the new Olivia Wilde movie.
C
Oh, incredible.
A
Seth Rogen.
C
Seth Rogen.
D
Okay.
C
Olivia Wilde, Penelope Cruz. Ed Norton.
D
Hell yeah.
A
From Fight Club.
C
Incredible cast. So good. I think you would really like it.
D
Nice. What is your favorite movie of the year right now? Oh, because you both love. I think you may be out of the whole cast.
C
Ian, too.
D
Ian, actually. Yes. Ian. It's you three in the running for who loves movies the most.
A
I'd have to look him up, but mine might be the Drama.
C
Whoa.
A
The Drama was so funny.
C
I'm gonna go see it tonight.
A
Really?
C
I'm gonna see probably.
D
You saw the Furious, right?
A
You're right.
D
Did you see the Furious?
A
I watched the Furious also this week. I didn't love it.
D
Okay.
C
Favorite movie that in theaters. Well, I'm still excited to see the Odyssey.
D
I've. I'm.
A
Y' all could go in Boston.
D
I eat that up.
C
Okay.
D
I love it. I. And I understand when I see. That's another one. My brain. When I see, like, period pieces or, like, you know, old, old school stuff, I'm like, yeah, this is a retelling. This is a re. This is what Christopher Nolan pictures when he reads it. This isn't, like, accurate lore. Accurate.
C
Wait, so you're saying you don't care to see the movie?
D
Oh, no, I'm stoked to see it.
A
I love Christopher, like, but I love.
D
I kind of. I kind of love that. The Odyssey and, like, these old, old tales.
A
They are tales of yore.
D
Yeah. They're. They're told differently every time, and they're pictured differently every time. But I love, like, ancient Greece and ancient mythology.
C
Same. Me too.
D
So much.
C
Yeah.
D
Eat that up. Because my favorite books all time are Song of Achilles. Yeah. Harry Potter.
A
Oh, yeah.
D
Song of Achilles and Cersei. I love those books so much. That made me cry. Song of Achilles.
C
Anyways, favorite movie, favorite movie this year, you guys.
A
Yeah.
D
Favorite movie this year.
A
I think I would have to look back.
D
I realize I have not. I've not been good about seeing movies this year.
A
I mean, the big one this year, Obsession was probably still not seen it. Whoa.
D
I know. I. I've not seen it yet. And I'm really dying to.
A
It's streaming.
D
I know. I need to. I need to.
A
I think it's coming on.
D
I think this is tough because I don't know if I'll have time to watch it tonight, and then I'm leaving
C
for two weeks and go see it in Boston.
D
Courtney will be mad if I see it without her.
A
I feel like I don't think Courtney would like it.
D
You don't think so?
A
It's got weird. It's got some, like, weird body stuff. Ooh.
C
Oh, yeah. Body horror. Yeah, it does. I don't mind body horror.
A
There's a. Like a kind of a. Like a loose body horror moment in the back rooms. That was.
D
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I told Courtney. I was like. She was like, how was it? I was like, it's good. I was like, there's one part you'd have to look away.
A
The best part is he's. He is the main guy. One of, like, my favorite performances, like,
D
possibly, like, he's so good, man. I. I loved it. I was like, I've never seen a movie like this.
A
Exactly.
D
That was kind of my taking, and I. I respect that. Whenever I see a movie or a TV show and I'm like, this is the first kind of this that I've ever seen. Even if it's. Is objectively bad.
A
Yeah.
D
I still am. Like, you did something. I enjoyed this. Thank you for trying this.
A
Yes.
C
Okay. I've chosen.
B
Chosen.
C
I think it would be Hamnet. I still haven't seen Dreams.
A
Oh, I didn't like. I didn't like either of those.
C
It's this year, right? These movies were.
A
I think both those were last year.
D
25. But if you saw it this year, I'd say it count counts.
C
Okay.
D
I read Hamnet last year, but I still haven't seen it. But I hear the movies. People say the movie's better than the book.
A
Whatever.
C
What were the movies that came out this year?
D
I don't hate Shakespeare.
C
What movies?
A
Low key. Not a big Shakespeare guy. It's not about, like. Like, I. I feel like, you know, you're not rewarded. I mean, I don't know. It's not really about Shakespeare.
C
Oh, Project Hail Mary came out this year.
D
Oh, I did see. That's probably. That's.
C
That's.
D
You know what? That's probably my favorite of the year.
B
Really?
D
But I loved. I loved that book so much. Oh, I love that story.
A
I think it's really fun. Did you. Quiet.
C
Did you cry?
D
I maybe cried reading the book. Maybe got teared up a Little bit.
A
I would have teared up if I saw Project Hail Mariana Theater.
D
I think happy stuff makes me cry more than. Than sad feet.
C
Happy feet.
D
Like when we.
A
I heard the Minions movie is good.
D
I guess I'd put that. But I haven't seen many movies this year. I've seen Back Rooms and Project Hill Mary. So different from each other. But Project Hill Mary was really fun.
C
Like, movie. A dog movie.
D
It's. What?
C
It's a man with a dog.
A
Yeah.
C
Man, dog movie.
D
It's just like a. It's a positive movie. And I'm like. I'm kind of. I kind of love things that make me feel good right now because so many TV shows and movies for the longest time were just like, everyone sucks. Look at how shitty these people are.
A
It's like, all right, Succession is still the best show. Succession.
D
Yeah. That's.
C
I cannot believe you just done that.
A
That. Worst product, too.
D
I did not.
C
I saw that.
D
I have not seen it.
C
I saw that.
A
I saw. I finally saw Mamma Mia. For the first time.
C
Oh.
D
Oh.
A
Pretty good. Pretty good.
D
Awesome.
A
I gotta see the second one now, though.
C
Oh, my God.
A
Oh, yeah. That was great.
C
Did you like the way she smelled?
A
I didn't clock her smell.
C
You didn't? She's an incredible lady, huh?
A
What is she. Yeah. Yeah. What is. Sorry, I was. I was still thinking about the smell, but I was like, you know what. What does she wear? Do you know what she.
C
No, but what was your, like, the first. First word you can think of when you saw my mom?
A
Kind. Oh, just like. Maybe normal is a weird way, but, like, you know, she was very, like, down to earth and, you know, also just kind of down to do whatever, which was, you know, I think I was nervous for her coming in because I was like, you know, what if she, you know, thinks all this is stupid or.
C
My God, never. My mom is the least judgmental person.
A
Yeah. And I think that's just. That was great. That's what I needed.
C
She liked you.
A
Okay, good. Yeah, she was. She was great. No, no.
C
She said. Well, her and Arasha's mom, when they were sitting in our holding room, they were just like, wow, we didn't realize how hard they worked here. Yeah, they were just like. You think they're just making videos and laughing and playing games. She's like. But when we're here, they're like, you guys are exhausted.
D
Yeah.
C
Yeah. Because it was also the week when we were shooting a lot, and.
D
Oh, yeah.
C
And they really got a glimpse. She's like, we Just didn't expect you guys to be. Be doing this type, like this much work.
D
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's almost the weird thing, like when we're here, recording is actually like the chillest part of the day. Like this is almost the break. Sometimes it feels like.
A
Yeah.
C
Oh, my God.
D
I feel like kind of like. And then you're bustling and hustling in between shoots and stuff.
C
Last week, I was Michael for a whole week.
D
Yeah, that wig, I don't know if that's out yet, but. Yeah, some good bit city stuff coming, Michael. Yeah, dude.
A
The movie that was this year.
D
This episode of Smoshmouth is sponsored by Casper. The grind can wear you down. Constantly working, getting up early, running errands, life stresses, all of it can add up. At the end of the day, I just want to have a good night's sleep, which is why I switched to Casper. Casper makes reliable, high quality mattresses designed to give you a comfortable sleep night after night after night after night. You get it? Before Casper, I was tossing and turning and couldn't get comfortable. But since switching to a Casper mattress, I've been sleeping like a baby. Getting a new mattress can be stressful, but not with Casper's 100 night risk free trial. I had peace of mind knowing that if they weren't the best fit for me, that's okay. Casper gave me options. Firm, soft, somewhere in between, I was able to pick exactly what I wanted. Honestly, I feel less stressed and ready for the day now that I'm going to get a solid night's sleep. We are big fans of Casper here at Smosh. I know a lot of people have them. I know Amanda just got one and won't stop talking about it. They're incredible. Remember, the day always ends well with Casper. Right now. Save up to 20% on mattresses and up to 25 on everything else. When you go to Casper.com one last time, that's C-S-P-E-R.com and save up to 20% on the mattress you deserve. Now back to the show.
C
Do you guys have anything exciting upcoming? Like, upcoming exciting things?
A
I might be going back to my hometown for the first time in, like, Florida. Yeah. In like seven years or something like that.
D
Going down to Florida.
A
Going down to Florida. My. My cousin's getting married.
D
Whoa. My cousin just got married. Whoa. I was in Ohio.
A
Got the Riz. Ohio. Riz. What state is Boston in? Massachusetts.
D
Massachusetts.
A
Okay.
D
Mass. Yeah, you guys gotta watch.
A
You gonna watch? What's that movie? Martin Scorsese.
D
The Departed.
A
The Departed.
C
Love that movie.
A
So good.
C
The original Chinese.
A
No, it's Japanese.
C
Cantonese.
A
Wait, really?
C
Yes.
D
I had no idea.
A
No. Infernal Affairs. City on Fire is a different movie.
D
Whoa. I had no clue.
C
Yeah. Incredible movie. Might go home and see that. Nope. Camp Going to is Martin Scorsese.
A
We watch it tonight.
C
The Town. Should I watch the Town?
A
Ben Affleck's the Town.
C
You know, I have it on Blu Ray. I love it so much. I love. You know, I love Affleck.
D
I don't think I know how much you love Affleck.
A
You guys, you ever seen the Accountant?
C
Of course. Accountant 2. Of course. Argo.
D
Have you watched every Ben Affleck movie?
C
Except for Dogma? I didn't see. Is he in Clerks? No, he's not in Clerks. He's not in Clerks. He's in Dogma. Chasing. Is he in Chasing?
A
He is chasing Amy.
C
He's. He's chasing.
A
He's the eponymous chaser of Amy.
C
I. I think he's chasing him.
A
He's pretty good.
C
That.
A
I haven't seen it since college.
D
Isn't it really problematic?
A
Yeah. So it's about. He meets a lesbian woman, and he's basically like, oh, I love her. Like, she just like. And he. He, like, tries to get her to fall in love with him the most.
D
90s.
C
Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
D
For her.
C
I'm not gonna watch that. But I. I love Mallrats. Oh, that's what I'm talking about.
D
I watched that forever ago.
A
Fucking yes. Love Mall Rats. And, I mean, when you're in high school, Mall Rats, it's kind of the best movie.
D
It's hard to picture a mall being like that nowadays.
A
I don't think they've changed, too. Like, I'm just, like.
D
I'm just saying to be like, the hub.
A
Yeah.
D
Where it's like everybody goes to the mall. Like, that's where you're going to meet up with everyone.
A
Like, fucking love.
D
That's what the Internet is now. But, like, you're a mall guy.
A
Oh, my God. Mall guys.
D
Mall guys.
A
Have you seen a deal?
C
Like, yeah, I love malls.
D
I enjoy a mall.
C
You want to go to the mall?
D
We can go to the mall.
C
The Boston mall.
D
I just feel like so many times I go to the mall, and maybe it's when I'm going to the mall, it just has, like, such a different feeling from when I was a kid. Like, malls used to be, like, crazy. It used to just feel like, whoa.
A
That's how they are. Yeah. It's like a slice of they feel,
D
like, emptier and not. Not necessarily that. It's like, there's not people there, but they just feel like.
A
I rewatched Jackie Brown recently. Have you guys seen Jackie Brown? A lot of it takes place at the Del Amo Mall, I want to say, in Torrance. Yeah. And it's in the. It's in the 90s, so it's just bursting with life.
C
Wow.
A
And it's just, you know, it pops off the screen.
D
And it's also just, like, the design of the, like, it's so slate gray. It's so marble now. Whereas, like, back in the day, there's so much color. There's so much, like, vibrancy.
C
Spencers.
D
Yeah, man.
A
Spencer's. What was the, like, Sam Goody.
D
It felt kooky. Like, back in the 90s, going to the mall.
A
I think they still have Sugar Factory.
D
It used to feel what. I mean, it's sugar. This is also maybe me as a kid, thinking back, putting my kid glasses on, it used to feel like there used to be, like, spectacle to it.
C
Yeah.
D
You go to the mall and it was like, whoa. Because it was like, these shops were, like, putting on a show.
A
They still got pretzels, man.
D
They do sell pretzels.
A
Pretzels, like, carry for me really quick.
D
Who makes the best pretzel?
C
Auntie Wetzel.
D
Thank you. And Olivia is correct.
A
Well, so here's what I do at Wetzels. I get the. I get the almond pretzel, and you ask for, like, a cup of frosting.
D
Oh, so you do the sweet pretzel.
A
Well, that's to say, you know, I think Wetzel bits are better than.
C
No, it's too hot.
D
Sometimes the Wetzel bits. Sometimes the Wetzel bits. Sometimes the Wetzel bits. Some of the Wetzel bits. Some of them lack any seasoning. Like, you're not.
A
The seasoning. You mean butter?
D
No. Well, I get the salted. I like salted stuff, so sometimes some of them just have no salt on them. Some of them have all the salt, and some of them have none.
A
I don't have that problem.
D
Auntie Ann's makes the best salted pretzels.
C
Auntie Ann's is.
A
I just feel like Auntie Anne's is a rarity. Like, you know, it is true.
D
It is hard to find.
A
I did go on a. Oh, my gosh.
B
I want one.
A
I went on a first date one time, and we went to the mall. Yeah, dude, this is a long time ago. And, you know, we. One of us went to Wetzel's. Or we went to Wetzel's Auntie Anne's and we, like, did a taste test, and it was really cute.
D
Oh, how was like 20 and she liked the Auntie Anne's and you like the Wetzel, so you're like, this date is off.
A
Yeah. Yeah.
C
You know, I would love to go on a date at the mall.
A
Oh, it. You can. I love a mall date.
C
I. I don't think it's happening these days. Everyone's always.
A
You can go to, like, the Din Tai Fung if you go to the gallery.
C
Oh, my God. The Century a day at the Century City Mall. Or the even better, the Arcadia Mall. Mall.
D
Whoa.
A
We could do a friend date there.
C
That's so cute. Let's do that. When do you want to do that?
A
I don't know. Because I would love to see this mall that. The Arcadia Mall that you speak of. And we could bring Shane.
C
Do you want to come?
A
Yeah.
C
Okay. This is what we're gonna.
A
Third wheeling. A friend date is really fun. That's really where it's like, hey, like, we're friends. But like, you're not.
D
Like, you know, not like as you're not like, there's Wetzel Acquaintance.
C
Yeah, there's Wetzels and auntie aunts.
A
Let's do. Let's do that.
C
And a GNC for you.
D
For you, dude and me. I'll go get my vitamins.
A
Yeah, there's salt on some of these vitamins, but not all of them.
C
And then we'll hit up Din Tai.
A
Did they have a dentai there?
C
Of course. There's a DTF inside the mall.
D
Ooh, that's probably.
C
Wow. Next to Kelly's cookies.
D
Kelly's cookies, man.
C
And then they have that, you know, the glasses.
A
Ms. Fields.
D
Gins.
A
I want to go to Gins.
C
There's a Gins there right across from Dentai.
A
I've never done need to go to Boston.
C
You want to go this week? Yes.
D
You're gonna skip out on boss people. Like, why is there only shipping off to Arcadia? I'll be like, guys, please welcome Tommy. And doing a nobody else.
A
A1v1 Reddit stories where it's just you reading a story to one person.
D
It would be fine. I'm not scared of that.
C
Do you think our audience would even care if I didn't go to Boston?
D
I think they'd care.
C
I don't.
D
I think they're excited. They know that you're going, so they're gonna be sad, but they're like.
C
They're like, okay, well, she's also accompanying Spencer to the mall.
D
I'd have to explain that on stage tomorrow though, at Boston. I need to be like, hey guys. So Olivia's not here, but don't worry, she's at. Don't worry, she's at the mall. And like they're booing and then they're like, oh yeah.
A
Like they, I think they would understand that. But no, I think they'd be bummed with like, I, I think an Olivia live show is going to be so fun.
D
It's gonna hit because people know it's hard to, it's really, it's hard to expect what you're going to say.
A
No, this is real. These aren't comments.
D
This is real people.
A
This is social media.
D
No. And you pop off sometimes on Reddit and it's hilarious.
C
Thanks guys.
A
Hard.
C
But let's set up the mall next weekend.
A
So down.
C
Should we do. Oh my God. Do you want to do like a Friday or a Saturday or a Sunday?
D
Well then have fun. I'll be gone still.
A
Oh yeah. Shane's so sorry. Shane's going to be in Canada.
D
Be in Canada.
A
What are they? Poutine.
D
Poutine.
C
I like poutine.
D
Fucked up fries.
C
Tim Hortons.
D
What?
A
Tim Hortons is, I feel like they have that here.
D
They do. It's called animals Animal fries, dude.
A
For viewers at home. Do you guys ever, do you guys fuck with Dutch bros?
D
I've never had, I've never had Dutch bros.
A
So it's, it's like a drive thru coffee place, but they also have like Red Bull concoctions.
D
You can I, I, I think I've talked about this. Something I really respect about you genuinely is like, you will hear about or see. Like fast food places are like, oh, they have this new item or like, oh, they do this crazy new thing and you're like, I gotta go try it.
A
Yeah.
D
And I really respect that.
A
Is that not exciting to y'?
C
All?
D
I just, no, I honestly, when it comes to fast food, I've ordered the same thing my entire.
A
Oh, I'll get the same thing.
D
Like, but like, I know when Taco Bell's like, we've got this new enchilada double smack taco. I'm like, nah.
A
And I'm trying it.
D
I'm not trying it.
A
No, to me it's a. I'm go get the same thing. It's experiential. To me it's a, you know, but it's experiential in a low. Especially with fast food. It is low stakes. Where it's like, if you go to a nice restaurant, they're like, oh, we have this new dish. At that point, I'm like, fun. However, I'm gonna stick with or reliable. But in a fast food context, it's like, well, I can get both.
D
True.
C
What's your fast food order?
A
Which place?
C
One place. Pick. Pick one place.
A
Pick one place is real.
D
I feel like the ones are like Jack in the Box, where they serve everything.
A
So Jack in the Box. Like, I like trying their new concoctions, but, like, my fallback is typically they're loaded, tiny tacos, which are delicious. They're like the. They're little beef tacos, and they put them in, like, a. Essentially, like a Chinese takeout thing. I don't know.
C
Chinese?
A
Yeah, yeah.
D
Jack in the Box works like.
A
But, you know, like, what do you call this container? Like, a Chinese takeout container?
D
The. Yeah, the little.
A
Yeah, like, you know, the. The white.
D
It's.
A
It's Jack in the Box branded. But, like, I don't know what else you would call a container.
C
Is it good?
A
Yeah. And so they.
D
I did try one once.
A
They throw it in there, and then they put, like, nacho cheese in there, like this other sauce, and then lettuce. Rest in peace. And then they. You shake it up, and then it's every taco you. With a fork. And they're these crispy, little beefy, cheesy, saucy tacos.
C
You should get some today. And hopefully, I think you'll get the diarrhea.
D
See, I think I was gonna say with the way that, like, your choices of food and the way that you eat food at fast food places, I think if you ate the parasite, I think they would forgive you and they would move on.
A
They would be like, our work is done.
D
They're like, this guy's cool.
C
Yes.
A
Yeah.
D
No, we don't. We can't. We can't do this.
A
But I don't eat like that. Like, you know, if I go like, that'll kind of realistically be the only thing I get there. Like, I know some people's fast food orders, you know, to be like, Popeyes. Oh, Popeyes. Another one. Like, I'll get the. The three spicy strips and the fries, the mashed potatoes and the biscuits. So I guess that's pretty.
D
Do you know your order for pretty much every fast food place, Don't y'?
B
All?
D
Not always.
C
What's yours for?
D
Usually it's just like, I get wherever. And this is like, fast food. And also, like, Chili's level It's like I'm getting chicken fingers or chicken nuggets anywhere. Yeah. Like, I just. They kind of just hit no matter where you go, right? So like, I'm like, if Taco Bell served them, I'd be like, maybe. But Taco Bell, I get.
A
So they do serve them?
D
They do, yeah.
A
They're pretty good.
D
Of course you've tried them. I get five crunchy tacos at Taco Bell.
A
Five crunchy tacos?
C
Five crunchy tacos. You eat all of them?
A
Yeah, dude.
C
Wow.
D
I could eat more. I get a actively stop myself.
A
I get a cheesy gordita crunch and the cinnamon twists.
C
Whoa.
D
And Taco Bell. You've heard Taco Bell had to take off a bunch of their items, right?
C
Why?
A
On account of the diarrhea.
D
Wasn't I hearing that? That they were.
C
This is the diarrhea thing.
D
Wherever they sourced their lettuce from. Maybe had had the. I don't know. It's probably everywhere.
C
Mine is McDonald's Filet O Fish, no
D
sauce, no filet o fish.
A
Filet of the fish.
D
I've never had it.
A
I've never also never had a flavor.
C
It's incredible.
D
McDonald's in like 10 years.
C
I also love Diet Cokes from.
D
Okay.
A
A fast food soda. Hits.
C
Oh, my gosh.
D
It does hit.
A
I've been getting panda a lot lately.
C
I love Panda.
A
I get the cub. The cub meal.
C
Like a baby panda meal.
A
Is it called the baby panda meal?
D
I have to show. I have to show restraint at Panda Express because I do want to get the double orange chicken.
C
When you're hungover. Okay. And you order Panda Express the next day. Holy shit. I just. I don't eat chicken anymore. So they did like a Beyond meat.
A
I heard their beyond orange chicken was really good.
C
And I keep telling them to bring it back.
A
It's. I. I wonder what their hold up is because I know.
C
I do know the hold up. And we'll talk about it after.
D
Oh, damn. Okay. Has to be off the record.
A
You learned about it at Taylor Swift's wedding.
C
That I wasn't at.
A
Wait. But I. I did want to ask you something.
C
Me?
A
Yeah.
C
Okay, Go for it.
A
What's it like to like, be sitting with the. The detention degenerates? Jesus Christ. Like, does that intimidate you? Holy.
C
Did you guys win?
D
It's been over a year. No, we lost one.
A
I don't.
D
This is how me with every games video.
A
I don't. That.
D
I don't remember.
A
I told that to so many people because some people Were like, ah. Like it sucks we're losing. I'm like, literally. I have been there for every iteration of every thing like this. I couldn't tell you who won a single thing.
D
Yeah, who won the banana ram cursing so much.
A
Can you tell me who won any? You've been in every games. Winter, summer, who won any of them?
D
No, Rambe's won the first Winter Games.
C
Fuck.
A
Was the Yeti.
D
Spaghetti yetis. I don't remember the winners of any of the games.
C
You guys, what we have done, what
A
we have done, what we have done here.
C
I. I don't know who won. But you know, I have to say, when I'm in it, I get so competitive.
D
That's me with any games video. I get in, but as soon as we yell cut, I'm done. I'm done. And I forget about it.
C
I think about it.
A
Okay, you don't.
C
Yeah, I do.
A
It is funny that like, look, I'll look. I'm gonna self insert here. We've all been in all of them.
C
We have.
A
I might have been by. Well, actually.
D
And I'm. I actually. I guess I was there. That's what I did.
C
Oh my God.
D
I didn't compete in the first.
A
Yeah, but you were the ref. Like you were. And that was kind of the first time I saw Shane. I was like, this guy's like, this guy's really funny.
C
Well, I'm so glad that we don't have to do half the shit that we used to do.
D
That is true.
C
I'm so.
D
It's far less painful.
C
I'm so happy that we don't have to have ping pong balls hit to our stomach.
D
Yeah.
C
I'm so glad we have to make fudgeing snow angels in the snow foe that.
D
Yeah.
A
There was one where I was really jealous I didn't get to do it. Which for all of the rest. Oh my care. But it was the one where we did the. You went down in a sled and knocked over the.
D
The bowling ball. Bowling pins. Yeah, I remember that.
C
Hate that.
D
I love that.
C
Hated all of that.
D
That one looked sick. That was fun.
C
I honestly was only doing it to keep my job. Yeah, I truly. There was this other thing that we had to do after summer games. We had to go to Six Flags or whatever. The water hurricane.
D
Harbor.
A
Hurricane. I remember that harbor.
C
I was so uncomfortable. I hated that so much.
A
Oh yeah. Because you don't swim.
C
I just. I don't like public water.
D
And they just were throwing you in the water and like.
C
And I remember it's like, oh, my God. We get the. The hurricane harbor all to ourselves. I'm like.
A
It's like, you can you get that anyways?
C
Because no one is going. Yeah, you get the diarrhea disease there.
D
Yeah, that's where it starts.
C
My favorite games that we've done is the one that we did last. Oh, that was by far.
D
Last year's summer games was incredible.
C
Last year, Summer games was so fun because we didn't have to do any body stuff. Like, I'd have to eat a hot.
D
It was really well constructed, and it.
C
And. And. And the crew got to throw darts at Anthony pre. The production was on point. The next one that we do. I'm so excited, and I hope we're on the same team.
A
No, we're bringing back tickling for this one.
D
Yeah, we're doing the tickle game. Sorry.
A
The theme is tickling.
D
Sorry. That's how it goes.
A
Yeah.
C
Am I gonna get in trouble for saying that I hated every single games we did?
D
No, that was before Anthony came back. You're allowed to talk whatever shit you want.
A
I mean, he was there for the first couple.
D
First couple. But I don't think he.
A
Do you remember the one where they did. Where they didn't go, and they were just like. They did commentary, and I had to edit in the commentary. Even though they, like, didn't even watch, like, a finished edit, that it wasn't
D
ready, but it was like they couldn't watch it.
A
They, like, couldn't watch it. So there. It was just, like. Crazy. Yeah.
C
I think it's because one of them had to get their wisdom teeth out.
A
No, I think Anthony booked something.
D
Oh, I think maybe.
A
Maybe it was both.
D
We'll get them on and ask him.
A
Yeah.
D
What the deal was.
A
No, they're so transparent about, like. Like, there's no like. That is the nice thing. There is no bad blood about any of that stuff. Like, it's. It's purely like father.
D
That was defy. That was a wacky. Wacky world.
C
Wacky world.
D
Anyways, we're out of time.
C
Oh, no. Things were getting really juicy.
D
We were get. It was getting juicy.
C
I was like. I was warming up to say some crazy. Crazy.
D
Sorry. I was gonna say it all in Boston.
C
No unhinged me or no filter me. I go different crazy. I go crazy.

Yeah. They were doing a lot of that in the Furious and you know, I feel like ax kicking. That would be really fun.

Host: Shayne Topp
Guests: Olivia, Spencer
This episode embodies the freewheeling, off-the-cuff energy Smosh Mouth is best known for. With Amanda away, Shayne is joined by Olivia and Spencer for a sprawling, often hilarious chat embracing the prompt “Talk about whatever you want.” The group covers everything from funny travel stories, insider trading, and the state of social media, to their latest book and movie obsessions, and even favorite fast food orders. The episode seamlessly moves between personal anecdotes, pop culture musings, and surprisingly deep reflections on creativity, internet culture, and the reality of being a public figure.
“Mr. FIFA texted us and was like, crazy question: Would you guys want to be the stadium captains for this match? And we’re like, we don't know what that is.” – Olivia ([02:45])
“It doesn't look like a guy actively killing a guy. But...you are theoretically robbing. You're like, up the market so much that you are robbing people.” – Shayne ([07:50])
“Some books I read, I'm like, the prose is just amazing.” – Shayne ([13:15]) “Tomorrow, and Tomorrow left me sobbing.” – Spencer ([13:39]) “Love is cargo.” – Olivia ([14:43])
“I don't necessarily think our brains were built to handle...thousands of people talking about you immediately.” – Shayne ([27:12])
“It's not a place where...genuine conversation can happen. It's just not designed that way. It's designed to make arguments happen.” – Shayne ([31:55])
Recent Watches: Discussion on new movies—“The Invite”, “The Drama”, “The Furious”, “The Odyssey”, “Hamnet”, “Project Hail Mary”, and others ([42:07]-[46:33]).
Moviegoing Rituals: Olivia and Spencer plan future mall friend-dates, Din Tai Fung excursions, and bond over nostalgic mall foods like Wetzel’s Pretzels and Auntie Anne's ([54:01]-[55:19]).
“I'm so happy that we don't have to have ping pong balls hit to our stomach.” – Olivia ([64:46])

True to Smosh tradition, the conversation remains loose, irreverent, and inviting. There’s an easy camaraderie, with offbeat humor (“Love is cargo,” “insider trading professor killed my family” [68:53]), a willingness to veer off into tangents, but also a surprising openness about the pressures of social media and content production. Even the silliest bits are delivered with a hint of self-awareness about the absurdity of the digital age, and there’s an undercurrent of affection and mutual respect among the friends.
This episode is a perfect snapshot of Smosh in 2026: half comedy hangout, half existential questioning, packed with inside jokes, cultural references, and creative banter. Whether you’re here for the laughs, the unexpected life advice, or just to hear what the cast thinks about fast food and literature, you’ll come away feeling you’ve just spent an hour with old friends who aren’t afraid to get real—even about insider trading.
