Shane
God, I need a haircut. Hi, I'm Shane. Wait, Sorry.
Amanda
I'm Shane.
Shane
Hi. Welcome to Smosh Mouth. I'm Shane.
Amanda
And I'm Amanda. And you know what? Shane and I have been really trying to figure out how we can best serve ourselves and how we can best be confident in this world and really like, how we can really have a good vibe.
Shane
Yeah. Today's all about our own vibes and our own confidence and how to exude the best of ourselves. A term some people use. This is a morning show, people. Amanda, have you heard people are using a term called serving cunt?
Amanda
Yeah. People on the streets of Los Angeles, California, are really using this new term. We decided to pop it over to our man on the street to tell us how to best serve cunt.
Tommy
I'm a man on the street because I have no home.
Shane
Yeah. Here with us is Tommy.
Amanda
Tommy. So you basically created this term.
Tommy
No. No. What?
Amanda
Tommy, you basically invented the words.
Shane
This is Amanda. Or if this is the.
Amanda
So you invented the word serving and cunt, which, by the way, so our editor doesn't murder us, we're going to say bunt or hunt or whatever we want, except for the word cunt, so we don't have to get it bleeped out all the time.
Shane
Well. And we probably will inevitably say the word. So. Tommy, on. We'll. We'll preface this a little bit later, but, Tommy, could you give us a sound for when we accidentally do say the word?
Tommy
Oh, my God. I. Yeah. This is great to be on this side of this question. Wow. I have never thought about it. It's good to do a vowel that I know. And it has to be short and quick.
Shane
Okay.
Tommy
So I'm going to go.
Shane
Oh, I love it.
Tommy
I'm going to give some options just in case, as I do in my show. Which is why if it ever cuts to and they're sitting differently, it's because we took, like, three minutes where I'm like, faster. And then like, how about this? Oh. Oh. All right. There we go.
Shane
I like that.
Amanda
So should we say serving? That was.
Shane
For those of you listening who might be confused, we are referring to the term serving cunt, which I feel like everyone's got to have heard it by now. It's.
Tommy
It's big on Twitter.
Shane
I feel like it's big on Twitter. And, Tommy, you have a show on your own YouTube channel called Serving Cunt, and you judge different things on whether they are or are not serving.
Tommy
Absolutely.
Amanda
Yeah. And you bring guests on there, and.
Shane
You brought Angela on You brought Angela on?
Amanda
Rachel.
Tommy
Rachel, yeah. Courtney's episode's out soon.
Amanda
When did it start? Give us the lowdown.
Tommy
You want, like, the full story, front to back. What are you looking for?
Amanda
Yeah, dude. Yeah, dude.
Tommy
Yeah.
Amanda
Yeah. You motherfucking cunt.
Tommy
Tommy on the street, tell us what's going on.
Amanda
We're anchors, so we're gonna say. So, Tommy, please tell us a little bit about how your show started and what's it all about. What's it serving?
Tommy
Well, I wanted you to cue me up in the anchor as the news person.
Amanda
And here today, we're here with Tommy on the Street. We wanna know exactly what your show is all about. Give us a little bit of the details. And what was the origin date of your show?
Tommy
Origin date. Okay. Thank you so much. You're welcome. Okay, so about the show, first. I'll hop into that. It's basically like if. Go and watch it, please. Please. It's like the Runway portion of RuPaul's Drag Race. And that's it with objects and things and creatures and no people. That's a hard rule I have where it's like, no people. At one point, I was gonna do Sims characters, and I'm like, but those are people.
Amanda
Those are people.
Tommy
So it's like. It's a exercise in imagination and being critical for no reason. It's like the stupidest show I could possibly come up with. Yeah.
Shane
And it's a definition. It's a term that I still. I think I know it.
Tommy
Right?
Shane
But I. I sent you a video the other day of a koi fish, right, that people were saying, serves. And I was like. I was like, yeah, this fish does. And you were like, no, no, it's not.
Tommy
No, she served royalty. Class and elegance.
Shane
It was this. It was this koi fish that had. It was this white koi fish with long, flowy fins, and it was. It was. Was gorgeous. And I was like, oh, is this. And I was like, oh, it's not. So I'm still figuring it out. My take. Because I've tr. I've asked. Courtney has tried to describe it to me.
Amanda
Yeah, Shane, give us your hot take on what serving is.
Shane
Here's the definition of serving bunt cake. It is a, like, borderline. Like. You're exuding a confidence that is perhaps almost offensive to some, but you don't care. Like, it's. It is. You, like. I don't know. It's.
Tommy
It's an. It's. Yeah, you're. You're very close.
Amanda
And my hot take.
Tommy
Yeah. Please.
Amanda
So at Vidcon, Tommy said that I was. I had this really wild jumper that was, like, all the way buttoned up, and it was blue, and it had, like, these big ruffles on the shoulders, too. And then, like, squiggly lines and patterns. Patterns.
Tommy
But it was like. It was like snatch at the same.
Amanda
Time and then snacks at the waist. And he said I was serving clunt. Serving clunt, which is clown cunt. Clown cunt. And I loved that because it was really the first time anyone had ever said that to me with, you know, the clown part in it. And I felt so seen in that moment. Cause I'm like, maybe that is just me. Maybe not even just in that moment. Maybe that's just me at my best. And so my hot take of serving is. It's kind of like when you tap into this part of yourself that's like. Yes. And you don't give a. You don't give a shite who. Who cares what people are saying about you as long as you are feeling yourself and being like, this is 100% me, and I know I look good. To me. That is serving that.
Shane
I agree with that. That's what it seems to be. It seems to be, like, 100% confidence.
Amanda
Yeah.
Shane
And it's exaggerated, and it's borderline over the top.
Tommy
Well, it can be. Yeah. Yeah.
Amanda
So what is your definition of serving Bundt cake?
Tommy
So a fun part of this journey, of this little show is everyone's got their own take on it. It's kind of like the word. Like, awesome. It's like, anything can be awesome or kind of awesome, but if you're in.
Amanda
Boston, awesome is the word. Wicked awesome.
Shane
Or if you're in the UK or Australia, they're just saying it all the time.
Tommy
You're both hitting on, like, the piece of it that's important. And it's that, like, unabashedness. It's that, like. It's like, damn, you just commit to yourself. And it's also like you have your own sense of bundt cake. It's like you have your own version of serving cunt, and you have your own version of serving cunt. Everyone has. Cause it's like it's you. You serve cunt. You know what I mean? It's not like. It's not fashion. It's not a fashion thing.
Amanda
Cause like, every term that's universal. That works for everyone.
Tommy
Exactly.
Amanda
Got it.
Tommy
It's how you exude your own self. It's a power. It's an energy.
Shane
It also seems to be very much a choice.
Tommy
Yes.
Shane
Someone has to make. It's not. Nobody. Like, it's not based on your actual looks. It's not. There's no. It's no. This person is actively making this decision right in this moment and with how they started their day.
Tommy
It's how you're showing up to work.
Amanda
If there is serving bundt cake, it sounds like there's a lot of other servings.
Tommy
Oh, yeah. Like the koi fish served, like elegance royalty. Like. Like. Like glamour matron. Like, wow.
Shane
Everybody's always serving something. Right?
Tommy
Right.
Shane
Like, it's.
Tommy
It's like I. I'm serving uncle right now.
Amanda
Really? I was going to say daddy.
Tommy
Okay. Uncle could have a kid.
Amanda
I was going to say office daddy.
Shane
I will say. I would say Amanda is serving Boston light right now.
Amanda
Be like, Boston Light.
Shane
Like, it's not over the top. It's not over the top, but you're. It's. There's some. There's some Boston ish vibes going on here. The hoop earrings, the. The. The denim.
Amanda
That's true.
Shane
Lined and boots. And boots. Like, you look like you're east Coast.
Amanda
K. I will take that. I don't really. It's a bad thing.
Shane
Boston light.
Amanda
No, I think that's great. Boston light also kind of 80s.
Tommy
Yeah.
Amanda
The big bangs.
Shane
Well, I kind of feel. This kind of also feels like when forever ago, Noah told me that I'm the human version of an acoustic guitar, and I was like, all right, wait.
Amanda
That'S the cutest thing I've ever heard.
Shane
That's actually, like, I get it.
Amanda
Pretty legit.
Tommy
Call me an umbrella that wishes he was a real boy. Yeah, it's pretty good. Pretty good. Noah's got it okay. To me. You're serving outdoor seating at a decently nice cocktail bar.
Shane
Oh, okay.
Tommy
Daytime. Daytime.
Amanda
And what is Shane serving right now? He's wearing a T shirt, a chain, and a jean jacket. Actually, Shane and I look pretty similar right now.
Shane
I'm wearing a Broncos T shirt, jeans, denim jacket.
Amanda
I'm wearing a pumpkin spice colored shirt.
Shane
Yeah.
Tommy
You're serving Sedan.
Shane
Sedan?
Tommy
I think so, yes.
Amanda
What year? Sedan.
Tommy
Oh, it's a good, like 2008.
Amanda
Oh, fuck it. A little beat up. Cool. No, no, no, it's well kept.
Tommy
It's well kept. It's a classic. You know what I mean?
Amanda
We all know what we're serving. So when people come on your show, do you guys figure out if something's serving together?
Tommy
Yeah, it's kind of different per episode, which is why it's a blast is because each person that comes on has their own idea of what serving is. They read the brief that I gave them. But we filmed all of the episodes in one day, which is why I'm wearing the same outfit the whole time. I had a bunch of different outfits planned, and I was like, I can't do this. No, I'm gonna be in the same outfit. I can't be changing.
Shane
Yes.
Tommy
But I did change my bandana in every episode.
Amanda
Very good. Very good.
Shane
Smart thing to do.
Tommy
Yeah. That was the tail end of my bandana.
Shane
When you film future episodes, are you gonna wear the same outfit now?
Tommy
No, it'll be a different outfit if I do another season or the plan right now is to do a season one, part two, and then do, like an All Stars and then an All Winners, and then have that be, like, the package. And then if I want to do another. If I want to do that, I'll wear the same thing, probably. But if I want to do another season, it'll be a different outfit.
Amanda
Got it. So you bring them on and you kind of. And they get their own idea of serving.
Tommy
Right. And so, I mean, what you see in the show is what happens for the most part. Although the way we film it is we do all of the serving stuff first and then we do the games last. So how the show works is you come in, there's the intro, we dive right in, and we decide out of five pictures, which one is serving the most. And then we take that one and they go to the finals. Then we play a game, Little stupid game.
Amanda
Love it.
Tommy
And then we do it again for round two. So that's the second finalist. Another game. Then there's the third finalist. Then we go into the finals and we eliminate one of them, which is dramatic. Very dramatic.
Shane
I know.
Tommy
And they're eliminated with a whip sound, and they get ripped in half.
Amanda
Oh, my God.
Tommy
It's very fun. And then we choose a winner, and then that's the end of the episode. It's very fun. 20 minutes.
Shane
It's great. I have to admit, I think I've watched every episode or. Yeah, I've watched most the episodes, and I remember watching the one with Angela, and I think it was fish. Was it? Did you guys do fish or was it.
Tommy
I did fish with Rachel.
Amanda
Rachel.
Shane
No. What was the. There's one. There was one Pasta. Was it Pasta. Was it? I think it was lamps. There was one, and it all had lamps. I remember there was one where I, I, I. It hit a point where I'M like, okay, I'm learning what this is. And then there's sometimes where I'm like, I absolutely disagree. Yeah, I disagree with your decision.
Amanda
Do you ever read like the comments and kind of debate on seeing different sides of it?
Tommy
Absolutely, I do. I love that. That's the point of this. Like, when I wanted to do this show, I was like, okay, I moved to LA to like, you know, do comedy. And it's like, great, I'm here, I'm, you know, doing comedy. I check marked my fan doing comedy, right? Ding dink. I. And so I kind of. I've been like, knocking at windows, walking into walls, just like, boom, boom. And finally I'm like, okay, I'm on a YouTube channel. People know me from YouTube now. Like, that's what the thing is. So I'll just do a YouTube show. And I'm like, okay, in this crazy ass world we're in right now, what is a good YouTube show? Something that's like escapist and like fun and light and like, not really. Not a lot of brain juice happening. And people love Drag Race. And I was like, okay, well, what could I do that's like in that same realm? And then I was like on Twitter one day and there was just. It was about Megan, the horror movie.
Shane
Yeah, I remember you talking to me about that months ago. I love it online, saying that she serves. Yeah, I was like, what?
Amanda
She absolutely serves. Bun cake. I mean, my God, I was like, she's so cool.
Tommy
Exactly.
Shane
Does not give a yes. Does not care.
Tommy
And so I was just like, that's a fun phrase. And that's a phrase that's been around in gay culture. And all gay phrases in gay culture start with black, trans, queer, LGBT people. And then it gets passed forward until we're talking about it on a show.
Amanda
Look at us.
Tommy
But that's how it always. That's how it goes. And so I was like, damn, that's a great idea. And so I just started, like, when I was like, with friends, I would just be like at a bar and they would have little like tincture bottles for like bitters. And I'd be like, I'd be like, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay. Everyone come here. Look at these bottles. Which one is serving? Cut. And then we'd like start doing that. And then I'm like, this is a blast.
Amanda
The one that looks like the genie lamp. The genie lamp. The bitters that look like a genie lamp is always serving.
Shane
I catch myself too, nowadays. Now, having watched your show, I catch myself kind of just, like, I sometimes find myself interpreting it, like, does that.
Amanda
I can't imagine Shane pulling up to a bar and going like, hello, sir. Your bitters bottle is serving. Cunt. Sorry, I'll have a Manhattan. Nothing.
Shane
It's not offensive for me to say that your Ford F150 is serving. Serving, man. I just want you to know that. No, I'm a big fan. Hey, thanks. I appreciate it. Has me also thinking constantly. We talked about our vibe right now.
Amanda
Yeah.
Shane
But you, at one point, then at Vidcon, did serve.
Tommy
Oh, absolutely.
Shane
A little bit.
Amanda
Yeah, I served. I served clown cunt. And I was clunty. And I remember when you gave that to me, I was like, oh, to me, it's so fun to get to have, like, a word for something that I'm feeling. Right. Because I was feeling a little bit like, ooh, I don't know if I should be doing this. Like, when I put on that jumper, I was like, I don't know. This feels a little, like, dangerous. Like a little faux pas. Like, I don't know.
Shane
It makes. If you don't have the confidence, you're scared.
Amanda
You're scared. It doesn't work, and it doesn't work. But if you do, if you're like, yep, yes.
Tommy
Yeah, I'm wearing this, and people are like, oh.
Amanda
And I felt so. I felt so good at Vidcon wearing that and also around your presence, because I feel like you and me are attached at the hip at Vidcon, always. You're my husband at Vidcon, My so.
Shane
Many wonderful gay husband drinking aperol spritzes. Yes.
Amanda
Oh, my God.
Shane
Do you think that's. Do you think there's ever been a time in your life where you served more Helen Hunt than. Than that?
Amanda
Helen Hunt? I was like, helen Hunt. Oh, my brain went to a weird place.
Shane
That was your peak confidence, like your most badass.
Amanda
I think my wedding day, I was pretty serving.
Shane
That's a good day to go.
Amanda
And what's crazy is I went for a dress, and I'll soon share the pictures online, but I went for a dress that is a little bit out of my comfort zone, but also is very much serving. Bless you.
Tommy
Just. It just doesn't have a bottom.
Amanda
You're completely new to the top. No bottom. It just has two nipple stars right here. And that's it.
Tommy
And just two veils.
Amanda
And I walked down the aisle with my dad, and I was like, bye, dad. Thanks for giving me la die, Dad. I promise you'll meet him soon. Hi, honey. Hi, honey. Hi, honey. Hi, baby. Hi, baby. What the hell? This is me as a bride. If I stayed in Boston.
Tommy
No.
Amanda
My dress was, like, really low cut, like, all the way down to here.
Tommy
Wow.
Amanda
And it was just all lace in the back. And it was. And it was, like, cinched and snatched. And it was so beautiful, but also so beautiful. Slightly a little bit traditional, too, but romantic and, like, fairy, like. And I felt like I was serving that day. And then some days I'll come into smosh and be like, I feel like I look pretty good. And then, like, people will be like, oh, I love your outfit. And I'm like, oh, thanks. Yeah, no worries. And inside I'm like, yes.
Shane
Fuck, yes.
Amanda
Cause it feels good. Like, if I'm wearing an outfit that I like, I feel good the whole day.
Shane
No. And I feel like I can tell now nowadays when I'm just like, oh, that person. They're at 100%.
Amanda
They're at a hundred.
Shane
They're going for it, and there's nothing that's gonna stop them. I think my hot take is. I don't think I ever have.
Amanda
That is so not true.
Tommy
That can't be true.
Shane
No, but by definition. No. I mean, I don't mean, like, I've never had days where I. I feel good or look good. I just mean, like, that specific vibe, you know? And I mean, I. Not even that I haven't tried at some points in my life. I just feel like I. I've seen.
Amanda
You at work before in these outfits, and I'm like, when you.
Shane
But is it serving or is it more? Is it a different vibe? Because, like. Like we talked about. Let's ask.
Amanda
Let's ask the. The professional.
Tommy
Yeah.
Shane
Yeah. Tommy, what do you think?
Amanda
The inventor of serving fun cake.
Shane
Yeah.
Tommy
I'm less of a professional and more of, like, the Jane Goodall of serving. Cut.
Amanda
Oh, my God.
Tommy
Like, I've had a lot of experience, but, like, there's still more to learn.
Amanda
So serving a bunch of gorillas and you're staying Goodall.
Tommy
Yes, exactly.
Amanda
And you're on the poster being like, she hasn't aged a day. Swear to God. Okay, keep going.
Tommy
It's. Cause she started old.
Amanda
She started old, and she just had older.
Tommy
It's the Betty White thing. It's like, oh, you never aged. It's like, no, she just was old at 40. And that's what I'm going to do.
Amanda
Helen Mirren.
Tommy
Yeah. Oh, no, you definitely have. You also are, like. You're like a humble, confident person. You're not Walking around like, I'm the fucking shot guy.
Amanda
I feel like serving Helen Hunt is very like, almost like you're on a.
Tommy
Runway, but if you demand attention, you then lose.
Amanda
You then lose your.
Shane
Yeah. Because you're not desperate.
Tommy
Right. Desperation is out.
Amanda
You just. People see you and go, wow, it looks like she's on a Runway, but you don't know it.
Shane
Is it an arrogance? Is there arrogance involved in this?
Tommy
No. Because as soon as there's like that, like, negativity involved, you know, then it gets like. But if it's like arrogance without me putting it on you, people have to be in.
Shane
It's more people. You want people to be in awe of you.
Tommy
Yes. And you'd like.
Shane
So you're not. You're not seeking that.
Tommy
No, no.
Amanda
You're doing it for yourself. It feels very self fulfilled.
Shane
That's true.
Amanda
It feels very like you're. It's like a divine embodiment. It's like I'm embodying divinity.
Tommy
Yeah. And you suck the air out.
Shane
It feels like too, that it's a person who's serving. They can be sexy and attractive, but it doesn't feel like it's about that. It's more of an ethereal thing.
Amanda
It's a vibe. It's a vibe.
Tommy
It's a vibe. I wanna. Really quick. You said that you come into Smosh sometimes wearing an outfit and you're feeling great. And then people are like, oh, my God, I love your outfit. Yeah, I just got this really nice. And I think everyone's seen it. This really nice trench, this country with my shoulders serving. And I was very, very London look. And I came in and everyone and some of the editors were in the kitchen. They all went, whoa, what are you on the case? They're like, why are you doing that?
Shane
What?
Amanda
Okay.
Tommy
I was like, all right.
Amanda
I'm so glad we're talking about this, because this is the biggest issue with serving is there is a. There's a group of people who just are blind to it. They don't see it. In fact, they feel so uncomfortable in the serving that they make you feel like shit. Because I swear to God, if I was wearing that jacket, the same thing would happen to me. Like, what do you want to say?
Tommy
What are you doing?
Amanda
My sisters would do that. Except my sisters would do it in a very loving way. But my little sister would probably do that. She'd be like, are you on the case, Sherlock? Like, where is the fucking murderer?
Shane
I love when people dress, like, when they go for it, and I Also, like, when people dress really nice, even for no occasion, I'm like, that's badass.
Amanda
Unless it's a ball gown at work.
Tommy
Or like a tuxedo, you know, but.
Shane
At smosh, it's like, can you really dress that weird? Like, we're always dressed crazy for something. We got pajamas, we do whatever we want here. We got pajama people.
Amanda
I can't believe they said that. What was your. So what is your response when you know you're serving and you get a response that like shoots it down?
Tommy
Oh, I went, okay. I was like, sure. Yeah. In a way that I was just like, you know, I'm like, okay, I get that I showed up today.
Amanda
Yeah.
Tommy
But like, don't.
Amanda
Or you could be like, I'm about to solve the case. And you guys, I did that.
Tommy
I was just like, okay, yeah, let me get my magnifying glass out.
Amanda
Let me solve the case.
Tommy
Go go gadget cunt.
Shane
I am about to solve the case of your piss poor attitude.
Tommy
Yeah.
Shane
And then they shut up and they left.
Amanda
Yes.
Shane
Went home.
Tommy
They left work and now we're behind on our shoot schedule and now we.
Shane
Can'T edit anything and it sucks.
Amanda
So I have a question. Can you call your. Can you tell your. Can you say out loud that you're.
Shane
Serving or is that defeat?
Amanda
Would that defeat the purpose or would that defeat the purpose?
Tommy
I feel like this is up for debate, but I think if you are telling yourself that you are serving cunt, you then destiny yourself to serve more cunt. Whoa, I'm serving cunt. Then it's like, you're right. I am. I'm right.
Amanda
I am so yourself manifest it. But telling others like, good morning guys. Can you guys see that I'm serving?
Tommy
Then you're not correct. No way. Get out of here.
Amanda
Get out of here.
Tommy
That's the arrogance. I'm like, how dare you?
Shane
How dare you, Tommy, do you have a time in your life where you think you served the most or times recently where you're like, yep, I was on it. I was there.
Tommy
I.
Amanda
That jacket was definitely one.
Shane
I see.
Tommy
Yeah. I mean, that trench slayed. Absolutely. But I don't know if I have like a specific memory in mind where I like, truly did. I will say, that shoot day when we shot the show, it was one of those things where it's like, you know, you put in a month's work of pre production and planning and finding the pictures and making up the games and hiring people and scheduling it and you know, people dropped out and Hiring, you know, finding new talent to be on the thing. And so it's like all of that work, and then it's like, I'm gonna put on my little black vest and my little bandana, and my hair looked perfect. And then it was like, all right, pa, let's get the. And I was just like, oh, I'm running a production.
Amanda
Yes.
Tommy
And I look like this. So probably on that day, I was serving cunt. Except for, I think, like, maybe after lunch. I was like, all right, we got three more of these. All right. Serving exhausted.
Shane
I will say a moment where I don't think I was, but I think everyone else was, for the most part, the. The promo for Anthony's funeral. Oh. And we are recording. We are also recording this episode before shooting the live show. But this episode's going to air after y. The live show and the promo already out. We'll see how. What. We served on the live show, which you can still probably go see the VOD of. But I know at least that in the promo, I thought everyone was like, oh, you. Yeah, I think. I think. I think Amanda. That was. That was definitely.
Amanda
Wow.
Tommy
Stun.
Shane
I think you stunned.
Amanda
Ian said he didn't recognize me, and I was like, does that mean I look like absolute poop? Poop every other day?
Tommy
I didn't recognize Ian. He was giving father. And I was like. I was like, how'd that happen?
Shane
When that tablecloth.
Tommy
Oh, my God.
Amanda
And he's like, this.
Shane
That was pretty intense.
Tommy
I'm like, put it away.
Amanda
I was like, why go away? I'm like, like, yeah.
Shane
Very excited. It's like, huh. No, it was the first time the booger guy.
Tommy
I don't know.
Amanda
I told.
Shane
I told Courtney this, but I was like, that's the first time Smosh has ever done something where I'm like, we looked cool.
Tommy
Yes.
Shane
And I was like, that's weird, because we've done. We've done big promos before, but we're always silly.
Tommy
Yeah.
Amanda
We're always dumb.
Shane
It's like, kind of. It's always. Our content was always making us look stupid, and that was what we went for. But this was the first time where Courtney was determined to make us look really good.
Amanda
Yeah. Which is so weird, which is Courtney is literally serving all the time, in my opinion. So I am so glad that she was the director of this promo, because I think it's so good for Smosh to be seen as serving once in a while, because it's like. It's like when you watch a show you're like, okay, this is fun. There's a crime, there's silliness. Where's the sex, man? Like, we need a little bit of that, like, edge. Yeah. And it was, it was fun to see us all in that while playing characters that seemed like us.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
So.
Tommy
Well, I think my character is me.
Amanda
Your character is you. I'm the only one that is version of you, though, right? It's a darker version of you. It's like.
Shane
Is it darker?
Amanda
It's a living in the shadows version. It's almost like you haven't seen slept in days version of me.
Tommy
But that's just me.
Shane
That's just actually.
Amanda
Well, you covered up pretty well.
Tommy
Hey, thanks.
Shane
Hey.
Tommy
Hey.
Amanda
Okay, so us.
Tommy
Oh, us. Okay, so, us.
Shane
Okay, so us.
Tommy
You go.
Amanda
You go.
Shane
See, I still thinking back, I just feel like I didn't think I served as the chosen in that. I think it was like a different vibe, though. I think I looked. I think it was, it was cool.
Tommy
You were serving something.
Shane
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I'm. What I'm saying overall, even going back to myself is not saying I'm not serving anything. I just feel like I'm not serving specifically bunt.
Amanda
Bundt cake.
Shane
And I guess, dare I say, is this an. I don't know if this is a wild opinion, but, like, how often are, like, CIS straight dudes like myself serving? I feel like it's just often not our, Our vibe.
Tommy
I would say it's a rarer.
Shane
Yeah.
Tommy
I think more experimental clothing styles usually open the door to doing something.
Shane
Like Timothee Chalamet maybe sometimes does. Or is that he gives off.
Tommy
One of those little pencils you use at the lottery stand. So it's like, I don't know if, like, there's no power in that.
Shane
Know what I mean?
Amanda
What about Harry Styles?
Tommy
Harry Styles? I, I'm sure we could find somewhere where he served cut. But, like, I, I.
Amanda
He's trying a little too hard. Is that what you're thinking?
Tommy
Sometimes I'm like, okay, good for you. But there's other times.
Shane
You know who I bet is at some point is maybe I'm wrong on this. Willem Dafoe.
Tommy
Honestly, probably.
Shane
I feel like that guy, that guy doesn't give a. Like, honestly, I'm not kidding him. In moments as Green Goblin in the.
Tommy
Spider man kind of context.
Amanda
Yeah. Like, there's so Conte.
Shane
He's just so, like, you know, I'm something of a scientist myself.
Amanda
You're like, you're doing it absolutely Serving.
Shane
Yeah. Like, I feel like that's. That's a good indicator of it.
Tommy
That's. That's.
Amanda
Is there, like, like, a top person out in this world on the Internet that you think is serving the king.
Shane
Or queen of Kant?
Tommy
I.
Shane
It's.
Tommy
It feels like a.
Amanda
Other than RuPaul.
Tommy
RuPaul doesn't serve cunt all that much. Sometimes.
Amanda
Sometimes?
Tommy
Well, I mean, it depends on the Runway. Sometimes it's mum, sometimes it's mother, sometimes it's cunti.
Amanda
Mother. It's very mother.
Tommy
It's usually like, how much leg do you got going on? But anyway, my. It feels like a cop out, but I think Tilda Swinton serves cunt all the time.
Amanda
100. That is not a cop out. 100%.
Tommy
It's just. I mean, I even, like, mentioned it in, like, in the show at one point. It's just.
Amanda
So Hilda is 100% serving because she is unapologetically, completely herself. She has such a unique look, but it's not even her look.
Tommy
No.
Amanda
Swear to God, she could, like, what was 300 years of longing? She dresses kind of like an old, frumpier woman, and I'm like, you're still serving?
Tommy
Yeah. It's just something about her, this air of art and, like, power and, like, timelessness to her. That's so cool.
Amanda
Yeah, it's just unique and. Yeah.
Tommy
Yeah. And she looks like a. Like a throwing star as a person.
Amanda
What is a throwing star?
Tommy
You know, like a little ninja throwing star.
Amanda
Oh, my God. To me, she looks like a vase. Like. Like a. Like a marvel. Like a marble vase that has, like, little, like, like iridescent vibes to it where you're just like.
Tommy
Pearly chips.
Amanda
Yeah. Pearly chips. She's a pearly chip.
Tommy
I'm hungry. Yeah.
Amanda
Thank you.
Shane
Okay. I respect that. That. Yeah, I really respect that. Damn. Okay.
Amanda
Do you have a. A. A white CIS male in your mind that you think is serving?
Shane
I mean, I.
Amanda
On the Internet, I'm.
Shane
I'm guessing. I don't really know. Willem Defoe was probably my.
Amanda
Okay.
Shane
My number one. And I would say, like, when I think of it, I just think of, like, who's. Who are the most confident people who are themselves. And honestly, like, another one that comes to my mind is, like, Danny DeVito, but I'm also not.
Amanda
I can't. I can't.
Shane
I'm not kidding, though.
Amanda
I can't. I can't. I can't. I can't.
Shane
See, I am still learning. I am still learning.
Amanda
I 100 have thought this from the day. Monica Bellucci.
Tommy
Don't know who that is.
Shane
Oh, yeah, yeah, I know who you are.
Tommy
Googling her picture of a woman.
Shane
Yeah, it's a woman. Monica Bellucci. Okay, I get that.
Tommy
I don't know if I know her from things.
Shane
What. What. What movies is.
Amanda
She's now with Tim Burton.
Shane
Oh, well, that's.
Amanda
Which is so interesting. She's been in the Matrix. She's been in Spectre 4. Matrix Reloaded. Okay, that would be my.
Tommy
She's female. She's the. My husband doesn't touch me, but if you kiss me in the bathroom.
Amanda
Correct.
Tommy
Neo to Neo.
Amanda
Yes, Correct. Correct. Correct.
Tommy
She's kind of serving in that.
Amanda
I also think that Trinity is always serving.
Tommy
Oh, oh, oh.
Amanda
In the Matrix.
Shane
Okay, what about. What about Neo in the Matrix?
Tommy
Honestly, Kind of. Yeah, well, like, later on, like, at.
Shane
The end of the end of the first Matrix, when he, like, flies away, Morpheus is serving. Is he?
Amanda
Oh, in that Jack Matrix one.
Shane
The first Matrix, when he calls in.
Amanda
That jacket when he's just.
Shane
And when he calls him, he's just telling him what to do, he's like.
Tommy
Yeah, but I feel like Morpheus serves the most when he's on top of that big truck with, like, the swords. The sword fight. Matrix 2.
Amanda
2, 2. 2.
Tommy
Matrix 2. We got the two, like, squiggly ghost people.
Amanda
Yes, yes.
Tommy
All right. The twins. And then, like, he's on top of the thing, and he's like. He's got his little glasses.
Shane
Oh, okay.
Tommy
So cool.
Amanda
So how do we serve better?
Tommy
The science is not in yet. We're still learning in science.
Shane
But what do you think holds you back most?
Amanda
Yeah, my mind.
Shane
Because you have that. You've acknowledged that some days you are super confident.
Amanda
Honestly, as a female. Some days I wake up feeling like I am, like, feeling good. And then some days I wake up feeling I got hit by a truck, and I'm just like, ugh. And nothing fits.
Shane
I mean, I relate to that.
Amanda
Some days I'm like, ugh. Everything feels good. I feel light. And some days it's like, my. How did we get here? What happened to me?
Shane
What?
Amanda
I, like, come out especially with bangs.
Tommy
Who.
Amanda
Bangs are tough. In the morning, you'll put your hair through your bangs, and it's like, up, and you're just like, I look like a woman from the 80s and I live, like, in a park, and I'm just like, my son's out back.
Shane
Like, it's.
Amanda
Sometimes I'm just like, who am I?
Shane
You've been really. They've been. They've been slowly.
Tommy
Your bangs are banging.
Amanda
My bangs are coming back.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
I'm growing them out, though.
Shane
How are you gonna keep growing them out forever?
Amanda
Yeah, I'm gonna grow them out forever.
Tommy
Really long in the front and short.
Amanda
Yeah, really long in the front. And then I'm gonna do the Boston haircut where I shave the whole back up to here, and then I keep this long.
Shane
Awesome.
Tommy
That sounds great.
Shane
That's really, you know, that's really cool. Yeah.
Amanda
Serving.
Shane
I saw a photo recently of you from, like, I don't know, a year or so ago, where I was like, damn, your bangs were at one point.
Amanda
Super short on my wedding clothes.
Shane
My roast of you having the haircut of a 13th century crusade. Very accurate.
Amanda
My. My wedding photos were micro bangs, and I remember, and I loved them, and I still love them. And I've been like, having those nights where I'm like, I'm just going to cut them. But my mom, I remember before I got married, she was like, are you going to keep the bangs for your wedding? And I was like, mother, your mom.
Tommy
Was going to shave them off.
Amanda
I was like, no, I'm going to let them grow out in one week.
Tommy
Huh.
Amanda
And I love.
Shane
I think in that. I think in that moment, your mom was serving.
Amanda
Yeah, she was definitely serving cunt.
Shane
I think.
Amanda
In that way.
Tommy
In the way that Instagram takes down my post about it. Not in that way, please.
Amanda
She was serving. Yeah. Can serving be in a word, or is it all.
Shane
Is it more of a look? Is it more look, or is it more attitude?
Tommy
It's more attitude than it is the look. The look is definitely part of it. When you say a word, do you mean, like, if we looked at the word, the word sentence, and we were like, is the word sentence serving? Ooh.
Amanda
Yeah.
Tommy
Is that what you're saying?
Amanda
Sure.
Tommy
That's like a big brain stretch. But we could.
Shane
That's intense.
Tommy
We could stretch the imagination there.
Amanda
I wasn't saying that.
Shane
You're gonna get to that episode eventually.
Amanda
Yeah, maybe that.
Tommy
Yeah.
Amanda
So, okay.
Shane
I'm trying to think of who we know also, because, like, I don't think. Okay, who. Who. If you had to vote, like, who out of, you know, who work here at Smosh, who would you say maybe serves the most?
Tommy
Courtney, hands down, really well.
Shane
Courtney's gonna freak out.
Amanda
I completely agree 100%. She's always serving.
Tommy
There's always a. They've always got a fit going on. Hair done. Even when it's just, like, a scraggly time. It's just like Courtney's so. Courtney, you know?
Amanda
Yes.
Tommy
And that's like, part of it completely.
Shane
I'm not gonna disagree with it, but I think the name that comes to my head is Chance. Because I just feel like Chance is just always so confident. Chance. Chance is one of the most confident people I've ever met.
Amanda
Absolutely.
Shane
But I also. I.
Amanda
That's tough.
Shane
That's enough.
Amanda
That's tough. I feel like. I don't know. That's really hard.
Shane
That is interesting, though. Courtney's going to freak out.
Amanda
Okay, so. So both of them are kind of up there. I do feel like Olivia is serving sometimes. Like, Like, I feel like she. She's usually serving, but sometimes when she's like coming in late and getting ready, she's. She's on her way to serving. I feel like she naturally is serving.
Shane
Olivia, who of the dudes in this office, do you think? Because, like, let's see, there's. There's like Alex.
Amanda
Alex and Games.
Tommy
Alex.
Amanda
Alex and Games is serving a man that can tuck his sweater into his pants. I am, I am.
Shane
I am impressed by Alex's ability to tuck full on sweaters into his pants.
Tommy
And it doesn't look. Fabric.
Shane
It doesn't look bad.
Amanda
Doesn't matter.
Tommy
It works.
Amanda
Fabric. He looks amazing. His earrings are always unique and different. And his hair is beautiful.
Tommy
It's that effort you put into yourself before you go outside that, like, adds to it also. See, serving, it's kind of like a smoothie. There's like a lot of pieces to it. Got a lot of factors. It's not ever just one thing. It's the accumulation of. Wow. I had something in my eye. Sorry. It's the accumulation of a bunch of different factors that altogether give you this power.
Amanda
I love it. So if there's serving cunt, there's other things. What are other things that Shane and I could be serving? Not just today, but in general. Like, if you thought of us in.
Tommy
Your mind, what is Amanda serving? You're. You know, you'll hate this. You'll hate it.
Amanda
No, I won't.
Tommy
But you have a supportive energy and very, like, comfortable, but you're also, like, a little haughty. And so there's this like. There's this like, aunt, young, hot aunt vibe. See, I told you you'd hate it. I told you you'd hate it.
Shane
Amanda, you constantly complain about being like, I'm like a mother.
Amanda
I don't want to be like, but mother is fine. Mom is.
Tommy
Yeah, you're not mom. You're not mommy.
Amanda
Well, I'm not upset. I'm not upset. I think that this is great. I like to know, because I am comforting someone the other day said that I give off top energy.
Tommy
Yeah.
Amanda
That I'm like a top. Do you know what I mean by that?
Tommy
Shane, he's learned.
Shane
I know very.
Amanda
I'm like top energy. And I. I kind of fucking love that. And I told my husband that. I'm like, babe, I'm like, top energy. He's like, that's why I married you. And I was like, okay, cool.
Tommy
And that's the one. Sit down. And that's the one thing you're like, do the dishes. Yeah.
Amanda
And then I slapped him so hard across the face, his head went through the door.
Shane
People, our fans love to call me Shane Bottom.
Tommy
How do you feel about that?
Shane
I don't care. I. I think it's funny. I am completely unbothered by it. Truly. And. Yeah. No, it's. I think anything.
Amanda
Why are you crying right now? Why are you tearing up?
Shane
Matter to me.
Amanda
Okay, so if I'm top and Shane's bottom, what else is Shane? I'm mommy. Auntie. Comforting hottie. I heard that.
Tommy
Top, auntie, Hottie. Like, yeah. Mother love.
Amanda
Love.
Shane
Let us know in the comments, too.
Amanda
Those are really good.
Shane
What? Other nouns or adjectives. I feel like it's always nouns when you're saying you serve. It's a noun. Never use an adjective.
Amanda
Also, auntie is cool. Auntie's the type of person that picks you up from the party and is like, I won't tell your mom.
Tommy
Sit down.
Amanda
Sit down.
Shane
To see.
Amanda
Yeah, exactly.
Shane
That's great.
Tommy
Like, is okay if you get into some trouble and might get into some trouble with it. Yeah.
Amanda
But then also, I definitely have mommy. I definitely have some mommy vibes too.
Tommy
But, like, good. Like, mommy, Mommy. Not like. Not like mommy. Mommy. Honey, honey. Mommy, please.
Amanda
Okay, so then what is Shane? We already know he's bottom. He doesn't give off father energy to me.
Tommy
No.
Shane
Yeah. People don't. People can't make a decision.
Amanda
I would say he gives off more uncle. But then not.
Tommy
No, no. It's the vibe is his cousin. Energy is sexless in an okay way.
Amanda
Oh, my God. What? No, it's like, what?
Shane
Tommy, continue.
Tommy
Not that you don't have. I'm sure you do.
Shane
Yeah, I do.
Tommy
But it's like, that's not what you're like. You're not like, I'm trying to be sexy or I'm trying to be like a hottie.
Shane
Right. I'm not trying.
Amanda
No, keep going. I had mine. You keep going.
Tommy
Let's see, what do you serve? It's like. That's what I mean. It's like. It's not. It's not like. It's not like father. It's not top. It's not bottom.
Amanda
That's not what he serves. Hometown.
Tommy
Is that a thing you serve like best friend? Like. Like. Like buddy. Like confidant. Like, like. Yeah, yeah. Sedan.
Amanda
Yes, sedan. It'll get you there. Might riding once in a while, but it's gonna get you there.
Shane
I'm serving Corolla right now. Toyota Corolla.
Amanda
No, sedan is way cooler.
Tommy
Dependable, like, awesome. Well known. Go to, like, a rock. Like a rock.
Amanda
You know that commercial, Like a rock. Probably can't sing it here.
Shane
Yeah, you could probably get away with that. Just.
Amanda
Okay, maybe the truck commercial. I also feel.
Shane
I respect it.
Amanda
I also feel like hometown boy vibes.
Tommy
Yeah, I mean, like, guy who's.
Amanda
Yeah.
Tommy
I mean, that's just Shane in general.
Amanda
That's just Shane in general.
Tommy
Yeah.
Amanda
Yeah. Those are. Those are really good vibes.
Tommy
They're good vibes.
Shane
No, sexless is great.
Amanda
That's absolutely what you. I did not say sexless.
Tommy
Amanda didn't sign off on that.
Amanda
I didn't sign off on sex.
Tommy
And I. I further explained what I meant for sure.
Amanda
I think all you said was.
Shane
I think it's. I think it's really awesome. Tommy, you're serving huge.
Amanda
Loser.
Shane
Idiot.
Tommy
No.
Amanda
Oh, can we do. Can we do. Tommy.
Shane
Okay, I think I have an idea. I think I have a thought. Okay, with. Now, without the glasses. It's different with the glass.
Amanda
You had glasses on.
Shane
I think you're serving scientist. I was gonna say sexy science. I'm not seeing science. I'm seeing scholar. I'm seeing, like, we need to decipher something. Like, an ancient presence is known. I know an expert who might be able to help us out.
Amanda
You're serving. You're serving university. You're serving university. Like, boy in the shadows. Like, the guy who's like, boy in the shadows. Have you been in this house yet? Watch. Let me show you. You're serving like senior talking to freshmen.
Tommy
Let me show you the rope spots.
Amanda
No, no, no.
Shane
Like, no, I see, like, assistant professor. Like, he's new to the university.
Tommy
Ones that has to grade all the papers.
Amanda
See, I see the guy who's on the side who has a cigarette and is smoking it and is like, hey, do you know about the house on the hill? Come with me, guy in the shadows at the university who's just like.
Shane
I see that.
Tommy
Okay, okay, okay.
Shane
I see it sometimes now without the glasses. It's very different.
Amanda
Okay.
Tommy
Stupid little boy.
Amanda
Not at all.
Shane
Not at nothing. There's nothing here.
Tommy
You're giving nothing.
Amanda
No, no.
Shane
I can't even see you at all. I don't know.
Amanda
It's hard. Also, you're giving. You're giving, like, first of all, to me, you're always giving, like, 80s, like, funky, like. Like quirky vibes, but also valedictorian, a little bit university, but then also boy in the shadow sea. You're giving me a lot of different things. But that's hard because I know you.
Shane
Yeah, it is hard.
Amanda
I know your personality. So I guess just by your looks, it's tough.
Shane
What I. What it makes me think about is. Yeah, it's hard for me to say specifically right now, but compared to when I first met you years ago, back when we were working at Defy, I feel like you have so much more confidence now than back.
Amanda
Yeah.
Shane
That. It is crazy. Like, I compare you now to then, and I'm like, well, whatever it is, you're serving far more of it now than back then. Yeah, back then, you served only anxiety. And I. I know that because you would say it. You would say how anxious you are.
Tommy
I'm not.
Shane
Well, you would say something like that.
Amanda
So, yeah, you're serving. You're serving less anxiety, more like, what is. What is this? Not royal, but like.
Tommy
Like a. Like a prissy confidence.
Shane
Regal. Not regal, just success.
Amanda
Serving, like, top of your class, valedictorian. Yeah, valedictorian. What? I actually, that. I did say that you're serving very. You're serving very university, very valedictorian, very in the know.
Tommy
Very big brain.
Amanda
Very big brain. You're serving, like, a little bit of, like, Queenie. Like a little queenie energy. Like a little, like.
Tommy
Is it, though. Is it mean?
Amanda
No, it's more like in the know.
Tommy
Okay.
Amanda
Like, you're in the know. You have told you. You're the boy in the shadows who's just like, you know about this. You know about this place. You know what's going on here? Well, I know. Come with me. More like that.
Tommy
I'll take it.
Amanda
That's what I think.
Shane
I've got a question.
Tommy
I've got answers.
Shane
Who's. Who's got a better. Who's got a more confident vibe? Who's serving more of the two? Ian or Anthony? Oh, I think that's tough.
Amanda
Serving Hunt.
Shane
Serving Helen Hunt. I feel like that's tough.
Tommy
It's tough.
Shane
I feel like it's tougher than people think. Cause I think people are gonna just initially go, anthony. But knowing them, I don't know.
Amanda
I think it's really hard. And it's different in every scenario.
Tommy
Ian's also very much lately been more, like, confident and happy with himself and did a wardrobe shift. And he's got a different vibe than he used to have. So I feel like they're like.
Amanda
And Anthony's more of, like, the new guy here, so he's still figuring things out.
Tommy
Giving. Timid when he's getting.
Amanda
Yes, exactly.
Shane
Their confidences are in such different realms. Realms, you know? Cause Anthony really, I think, puts a lot of effort. Ian does, too, and especially lately. But Anthony really puts a lot of effort into, like, how he dresses. And, like, he's got all these cool tattoos and piercings and all this. This stuff. Like, he's put in a lot of work there that I think Ian just doesn't care about.
Amanda
I'm not sure that that's serving Ian's.
Shane
Ian's personality. Sometimes Ian really can be, like, unfazed in a way that's like, oh, you actually just won't let that hurt you. Or won't that let that affect you? And, like, going back to that promo, there's moments in it where it's just like, damn, Whoa. To see him all confident like this.
Amanda
I mean, yeah, Yeah. I had, like, a crush when he was the father.
Tommy
I was like, in that promo. Ian served maybe the most cut in that promo.
Amanda
That was probably him at his peak, I think. I think Ian's definitely serving. I really do. I think Anthony definitely serves. But I think right now, as being more of the new kid in this building, which is where we see him the most. I think Ian is serving because he's just got that, like, air of, like, I don't care. You know what I mean? That's what I'm thinking.
Shane
It's so interesting, though, how they are confident in such different ways. Yeah, I feel like it flip flops.
Tommy
This is what the show's like. There's no right opinion. You just kind of look at a thing and go, yeah, maybe that is.
Amanda
Go watch Tommy's show.
Shane
Yeah, definitely. Go watch it.
Tommy
Hopefully at this point, all five episodes will be out. We shot a sixth episode.
Shane
Shh.
Tommy
But it turned out really bad. Maybe I haven't looked at on set. It felt very. We tried something. Cause that was the whole point of it. We had the day. And so each person who came on, we had the thing that's kind of tailored to them and their vibe. And so each episode has its own very unique vibe to it, which is cool. And the way it's edited also by me, is very structured and uniform so that there's at least something. Because you go to a YouTube show, you want the same thing over and over again, but in different fonts. And one of the episodes turned out a little too off the tracks in a way that, like, maybe if the other episodes do really well, I'll release the sixth episode as a little surprise. Whoa. Wow. But, yeah, I think by now all five episodes will be out, and I think Courtney's is probably one of my favorites.
Shane
Ooh, fantastic. How much work? Cause you do so much on it. How much work was it and how long of a process was it from start to finish?
Tommy
I thought of the idea, like, probably like four or five months before we started filming. But that was right before my friend Alex and I did the Everything's getting worse here at Smosh. So we, like, had to throw that aside and just dive into adapting that to a streamed thing as opposed to a live show. Anyway, and so after that was done, I needed help in producing all of it. So I went back to Alex and we worked on it and produced, built it out and all that. And that probably took a month and a half, maybe two months. Ish. And filming was a day crazy. And then right after that, I had a little shakeup in life, and so I took a few weeks to kind of have some fun and recenter. And then I dove in to edit. And yeah, the first episode was crazy because it's like when you're diving into something that isn't made yet.
Amanda
Yeah.
Tommy
And it's like we recorded a bunch of extra stuff, like on the day, little catchphrases and things like that, in case we wanted to use it.
Amanda
Yeah, right.
Tommy
Also, like, after the day was over and we realized that we didn't want to use that episode, which then also canceled out. Another thing that we filmed, it was only going to be five. So anyway, building out, like, making the sound effects, making the music, because I've made the music and the sound effects so I don't have to do a deal with copyright crap.
Amanda
Wow.
Tommy
Editing the graphics. Like, it's all me. It's all me. Front to back crazy. The end to and fro. So it's like I leave Smosh. I go home, I work out, I sit down, I chill out, and then I open my laptop and I work for Three or four hours, so. And then I come back here the next morning.
Amanda
How do you. So as a person who. I'm a very collaborative person and this seems like a project that is very much you on your own. How do you stay self motivated to continue to work a full time job and then come home and do your passion project by yourself? Like no one's telling you to get it done. How do you stay self motivated?
Tommy
Fear. Oh, fear. Amanda. Oh, Amanda. The answer would be fear.
Amanda
Serving.
Tommy
Serving fear. That's actually. I think what I serve the most is fear.
Amanda
And what are you like, fearing?
Tommy
Oh, just it's. For me, it was like having those three weeks off, it's like, wow, it's been almost a month since we filmed it. I need to get this done. What am I doing? You know, it's like I'm always scared of time going by too fast and then I'm old and then I'm dead. Like that's like always in the background. That's like the driving force of my person. Which is why, like, if you waste my time, I'm gonna be fucking pissed off at you.
Amanda
Right. Time matters.
Tommy
You stole my life is how I see it. It's very stark, but it's how I see it. So it's like there's only so much time left in the year. Right now as we're sitting down, I have three episodes out. I just kind of finished the fourth one at my lunch hour. Oh, I also work on my lunch hour when I'm here. For the most part.
Shane
I don't know how you do that.
Tommy
And well, I don't. It's this one time that I've been doing this. Otherwise, like, I don't feel. I think it was also all the effort leading up to it that's like, well, we gotta finish. We gotta finish the story. We gotta finish the job.
Amanda
Gotta finish the story. And it sounds like you've given yourself deadlines.
Tommy
Tried to. Absolutely tried to.
Shane
So.
Amanda
Tried to give yourself. Cause when you're self motivating and it's your own passion project, there's no one saying, hey, Tommy, this is due. Except for yourself. So setting deadlines is really good to kind of give yourself a basis of when this needs to get done and a bit more of a hurry. Yeah, right.
Tommy
But then also the other side of that coin, which is a great thing, is like I put out the first episode on a Saturday, I put out the second episode the next Saturday. And then I realized I'm too far behind and I can't make the next Saturday. Like, I can't. That deadline just couldn't be done. And so, like, I was just like, oh, I can do whatever I want, actually. And so I was like, see you in two weeks.
Shane
Oh, it's my channel.
Tommy
Yeah. And then I did. And then I did the two weeks, and there's that one. And then I ran into a humongous roadblock. And so it's. It's going to be two more weeks until the next episode's out. But, like, whatever.
Shane
Who cares?
Amanda
You are your own.
Tommy
I'm going to watch it.
Amanda
You are your own boss. You are your own CEO.
Tommy
Yeah.
Amanda
Would you. Would you rather be on your own in that sense, or would you rather have a team being like, no, that's not okay, Tommy. But then also help you with deadlines and stuff?
Tommy
It would be different if I was getting, like, also paid to do this work, even though it's, like, my thing, you know, if there was, like, for me, the motivation's just, I want to get it out and get it done. But, like, if a team was like, tommy, you need to do this, I'd be like, well, who produced the show? Who's editing the show? You know, I'd be like, I'd be. Get off my ass.
Amanda
Yeah.
Tommy
So I'm glad no one's doing that right now. But if it was more official, like, let's say this turns into, like, a chicken shop date kind of thing, which is like, the idea. It's just like, I want any person to come on and sit down with me and have a box. You got it. So fun. So it's like, if that were to happen, then I'd want a bigger team, and then it would be like, hopefully by then I would have an editor who can see the format and just do that.
Amanda
Right.
Shane
But you're not doing this with any. You've talked to me about it a little bit over the months, and you're doing this ultimately for fun.
Tommy
Yep.
Shane
Like, you're doing it for the passion of it and the joy of it. And that's probably why it turned out so great and probably part of why you actually were able to do it. Because, like, if you're going about this, like, I need to. To be doing my own projects, I need to. Because that's my line of thinking when I'm trying to do stuff outside of Smosh. And it's why I feel like I haven't succeeded is because I'm coming from this place of obligation of, like, oh, I should. I should be doing other things. And I. Yeah, I gotta find something to do. And I. I make it more work, and then I just hate it. And I'm exhausted because we. We film long days here, and it's a lot of work, what we do. And so I get home and I'm like, The thought of expending more creative energy, I just don't have it. But if it was something that was purely for fun.
Amanda
Yeah.
Shane
Then it's a little different.
Amanda
A passion project has to be something that's fun. And I also see it as like a fire that's inside of you, that if you don't tend to it, you're gonna burn up, you're gonna burst. That's how I see passion projects. Like when I wrote my One Woman Show, It, I literally wasn't like, and now I will write my One Woman show it, like, bursts out of anger and sadness and excitement and fear and joy until I was, like, listening to music that I was obsessed with and just writing. Like. I feel like passion projects have to birth from this big magic moment. I love Elizabeth Gilbert, and that book is amazing. But that big magic moment, you're like, bing, light bulb. And then if you gotta. It's almost like if you don't jump on it, you're gonna combust.
Tommy
Yeah. Yeah. And, you know, the fun part is the most important part. Like, as much as it is work and it is stuff like that, it's like trying to have fun during the whole process as much as you can.
Amanda
You have to remind yourself of that because sometimes you can get to a place where you're like, I've gotten so far. I feel sick right before I'm about to perform. Why am I doing this?
Tommy
Literally.
Shane
And some parts of anything are just not fun. Nothing is fun through and through. And you have to accept that. It's like, okay, well, parts of this are gonna suck.
Amanda
Yeah, parts of this are gonna suck.
Shane
But if the most of it will be fun.
Amanda
Yeah, exactly. If you think about it and there is that, like, level of fun, it is what's gonna drive you. But if it's not fun, if you're doing it for someone else or if you signed onto a project with another collaborative person who you almost like, oh, then those are things that I just think nowadays are just not worth it.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
Time is precious.
Shane
Yeah.
Tommy
But maybe that's because we're all 30.
Amanda
Yeah. I just think it's so cool that you're doing this.
Shane
It's really cool.
Amanda
Amazing.
Shane
Is there added pressure? Because the. You know, it. It's done very well, thank you. And, I mean, I don't know what you were expecting when you put it out, but.
Amanda
Yeah.
Shane
Does it add more pressure? Has it changed your point of view on making it now that you know a decent audience has watched it and likes it?
Tommy
Yeah. I mean, the Mac episode is like 200k views, which is like, that's really great. That's a good amount when you're.
Shane
When you're doing it all yourself.
Tommy
Yeah.
Shane
And that's like some of your first episodes on a channel that's actually insane.
Tommy
It is crazy.
Shane
You know, you think about it, like, most YouTubers truly go years getting hardly any views.
Amanda
Yeah.
Shane
And so by the time you're getting views, it's like, well, I've been doing this so long that it's one thing, but this is your first.
Tommy
Yeah. I mean, the. It adds pressure in a way where it's just like, I want to get them out. You know, it's like. It's like if it's already. If the audience is there and is hungry for it, then it's like, like, damn, this extra week that I have to take to edit it, I'm like, it's not my favorite thing, but that. So that's like the only pressure. Otherwise. It's like, I feel like with most things, you just have to convince someone to buy into your idea, and then once they're bought in, they're bought in. So it's like, even if one episode doesn't hit the same way or whatever, it's like, you'll still enjoy it. They're still part of it. Yeah. But, yeah, there's no big. I literally was like, this'll get 30k views total. I literally was like, all the episodes total will get. And then that'll be that. And that'll be fun. And that's fun.
Amanda
Fun and low expectations are also part of a passion project. If you do it for fun and low expectations, like, I'm just doing this because it's fun. And then something bigger happens.
Shane
That's how you do it the best. Someone said this recently, I think I want to say it was. Alex said something that there's, like, a saying at some university of, like, they have a no masterpiece policy. And when I heard that, I was like, oh, that's really great. Because what's held me back over the years is my perfection. And it's something that I've thought about for my entire time at Smosh. It's been like a, oh, well, I should make my own videos. I should work on my own channel, and it's just so hard. But I think part of that is that I put this pressure of, like, what it needs to be, as opposed to, like, I could literally film some bullshit and upload it to a channel, and that might be better than nothing. It's certainly something I am. I have been pondering and would love to try and do at some point, which is making my own channel and making my own stuff. But I'm not making any promises to those.
Amanda
I think that that's awesome, because I think the best way to kind of move through that is to just make stuff that you're passionate about in that moment. And a lot of it will happen, and it happens, and then it just goes. But you get used to making and then moving on and making and moving on and making, and then maybe something else comes from that, and then it's like a double meaning. It's like, oh, someone. You know. It's just. If you are passionate about it, jump on it. Because I always think that when I am, like, old, hopefully in my bed dying, like the woman on the Titanic, I hope that I'm like, God, I jumped on most of my passion projects, and one did well. I always think back to that. That is my motivator.
Tommy
It's kind of the same thing that I have where it's like, I'm gonna be dead one day, and so I better be happy about that.
Amanda
And the Titanic woman, too.
Tommy
A thing that I. So before it did well, there was a different kind of pressure that. I see what you're saying. I didn't think about. I was like, wait, this is my debut in this medium. I was like, oh, oops. I didn't think about. I was just like, yeah, I'll shoot the show and it'll be fun and edit it, and we'll put it up. And then as it was happening, I was like, oh, my God, this is me doing it feels actually way bigger than just like, oh, yeah, put it on my YouTube channel. And then because I kind of, like, accidentally fell into doing that, I was like, all right, whatever. I was like, okay, if it does well, who cares? Or if it does. If it doesn't do well also, who cares? And. And who knows? I could put out five episodes of Serving Cunt and then put out a different thing on that channel or I'll disappear. I'll do whatever I want to do, actually.
Amanda
Yeah.
Tommy
And, yeah, all that matters, actually. Fine.
Amanda
You're following your passion.
Tommy
Mm.
Amanda
You know.
Tommy
Yeah.
Shane
Right?
Tommy
Yeah.
Amanda
Hell, yeah.
Tommy
Just, like, letting go of that, like, the Pressure of it. It's still there.
Shane
Well, it's still there. Yeah. And, I mean, look, you're killing it, but it's.
Amanda
It's there in, like, a fun way.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
But we do want to have a little end segment.
Shane
Yeah, Our. Our one for today is we're trying new things. We're trying new things. Did we have. Okay. Yeah. Lip service?
Amanda
Yeah, lip service.
Shane
So this is. This is our little gossip segment.
Amanda
This is like silly tea or gossip or things that we have insider into that maybe you might not know.
Shane
Yeah. And it could be about. You know, it can be about anything you want. It doesn't have to be. It doesn't be like, celebrity gossip or even gossip about here at Smosh. It could be like any. Anything in the whole world.
Amanda
Anything in the whole world.
Shane
I have been thinking about it all day, and I'm struggling. This is definitely. I am not good at coming up with tea.
Amanda
This one's. This one's hard.
Shane
This one's really tough.
Amanda
But if you're good at coming up.
Shane
With tea, here's our segment that we're putting right on you.
Amanda
Here's our segment. Tommy, would you like to go first?
Tommy
Yeah. Yeah, I can go first. At least the tea. And the Bow family right now is. My dad is working toward retirement. Whoa. Which is awesome. Oh, that is key, because Mr. Thomas Bowe Jr. Needs to sit down. He needs to sit down, and he needs to have another rum drink. And you should, Tom. Yeah, yeah, that's up and coming. Okay, there's that.
Amanda
Yeah, I like that. That's very good. Here's my tea. It's very dumb. I just thought of it right now, this moment. I kind of lied to my husband last night, but. Whoa. This is tea. So we're both kind of intermittent fasting. And I was like, yeah, I'll do it with you. Absolutely. We were supposed to be done at 8, and then at 8:15, I went in the fridge and I poured myself a little gin and soda with, like, a lime. And I was like, oh, shit. It's past intermittent fasting. And I opened the soda water and poured it in, and he went. Got up and ran into the kitchen and went, what's that? I just went, soda water. And he was like, it's after our time. And I was like, it's soda water.
Tommy
Damn.
Amanda
He was like, to his face. Really? And I was like, yep. And he was like, yum. Can I have some? And I was like, no, I'll make you one. And I made him one. He knew I was fucking lying. And I was just like, I'll make you one. And he was like, okay, okay. I was like, okay. And that's my fucking nutty tea.
Tommy
That's some nutty tea.
Amanda
That's my lip service for today.
Tommy
Shane, you got anything?
Shane
It's, it's. It's more confessing a secret, but it's. I guess so in a way it's tea. Back when I was. I want to say I was like 15, we were visiting my family and I were visiting some family friends, and they had a son who was like, had to have been like 8 to 10 years old. But in their backyard, they had like a really nice backyard. And like any. They were, you know, like a middle class, upper middle class family. They had like a bunch of nice toys. And like, he had like several bikes and stuff like that, like, you know, that kids have. But he had like, they were like small little bikes. And you know, me at 15, me still now. If I see any form of like, bike, I'm gonna try to see if I can ride it. You know, if it's like a tiny. But you know when a bike is like too small for you and it's just really tempting to be like, well, can I ride this little tiny bike? And so like, there's a little, tiny bike in their backyard. And I was kind of just like alone just in the backyard, and I was like, I'm gonna try to ride this tiny little bike. I get on this tiny little bike and I break the fucking seat off like, fully.
Tommy
How instantly did it happen?
Shane
Oh, pretty instantly. Like I sat on it, fucking broke off. And I was like, like broke off from the, like the rod of the sea level. It's. But, well, it wasn't. I don't. I forget how it broke so easily, but I was like, oh, my God. And I like kind of repositioned it back and then was just like, okay and didn't tell a soul and just kind of like put it back where it was. Maybe it was a cheap bike and it doesn't matter. Maybe they wouldn't care. They'd be able to easily get another bike. And it was also not their only bike. But I definitely was just like, okay. And I never heard anything about it since, but I did that. And I felt bad. I think about it occasionally because I.
Amanda
Saw the mom was in the window.
Shane
Like, I saw what he did.
Tommy
She's like, finally, that bike's going to be.
Shane
I saw you break his bike. I felt more bad that I'm like, that kid's going to try to sell that bike Break.
Amanda
The friggin rod's going to go.
Shane
No, it wasn't. It didn't break like that. It didn't. It didn't break like that. It broke in a way that that wouldn't be what happened, but it's still.
Tommy
That kid's in a full body cast.
Shane
From that light accent.
Amanda
You're serving asshole right now.
Shane
But I feel bad about it.
Amanda
Wow. Lift service.
Shane
The tea is on myself.
Amanda
The tea is on yourself. The tea's on all of ourselves.
Shane
I spilled tea all over myself.
Tommy
I'm wet.
Amanda
You're wet.
Shane
Oh great.
Amanda

Podcast Summary: Smosh Mouth Episode #24 - "What Vibes Do We Give Off? w/ Tommy Bowe"
Introduction
In Episode #24 of Smosh Mouth, released on December 11, 2023, hosts Shayne Topp (referred to as "Short") and Amanda Lehan-Canto (referred to as "Tall"), along with their guest Tommy Bowe, delve into the intriguing topic of personal vibes and confidence. The episode explores the nuances of "serving" different vibes, particularly focusing on the term "serving cunt," its origins, and its cultural significance.
Understanding "Serving Cunt"
The conversation kicks off with Shayne mentioning the buzz around the term "serving cunt," a phrase gaining traction on Twitter and within certain internet communities. Amanda adds, “People on the streets of Los Angeles, California, are really using this new term.”
Tommy clarifies the term’s usage on his own YouTube channel, Serving Cunt, where he judges various subjects based on whether they are "serving" or not. He explains, “It's like the Runway portion of RuPaul's Drag Race. And that's it with objects and things and creatures and no people.”
Shayne attempts to define "serving cunt" with Amanda offering her interpretation: “It is a, like, borderline... you're exuding a confidence that is perhaps almost offensive to some, but you don't care.”
Tommy Bowe’s "Serving Cunt" Show
Tommy provides an in-depth look into his show, “Serving Cunt,” detailing its structure and creative process. He describes the format: “You come in, there's the intro, we dive right in, and we decide out of five pictures, which one is serving the most.” Each episode involves selecting finalists, playing light-hearted games, and ultimately choosing a winner based on their "serving" prowess.
A notable moment occurs when Tommy discusses his episode with Rachel, mentioning, “Angela on the episode with fish” indicating the variety of themes he explores. He emphasizes the show's flexible nature, allowing each guest to bring their unique perspective on what constitutes "serving."
Defining Different "Serving" Terms
Shayne and Amanda brainstorm various "serving" terms beyond "cunt," illustrating the versatility of the concept. Shayne remarks, “Is this an arrogance? Is there arrogance involved in this?” leading to a discussion where Tommy explains, “It's more about how you're showing up to work... it's how you exude your own self. It's a power. It's an energy.”
Amanda shares a personal anecdote from Vidcon, where she was told she was "serving clunt" (clown cunt) for her bold jumper, highlighting how serving is about embracing one's true self without concern for others' opinions. She reflects, “It's like when you tap into this part of yourself that's like, yes. And you don't give a... you don't give a shite who.”

Personal Reflections on Confidence and Vibes
The conversation transitions to personal experiences with confidence and serving vibes. Amanda recounts her wedding day as a peak moment of serving confidence: “I felt like I was serving that day.”
Shayne shares his struggle with consistently feeling confident, questioning whether he ever truly serves: “I don't think I ever have,” though his friends disagree, noting his confident moments in promos.
Tommy reflects on moments when serving confidence peaks, such as during the production of his show: “I put in a month's work... I was serving exhausted,” illustrating the ebb and flow of maintaining one's vibe.
Passion Projects and Self-Motivation
The discussion shifts to Tommy’s passion project—his YouTube show—and the challenges of self-motivation. He emphasizes the importance of creating something enjoyable: “It's crucial to have fun during the whole process as much as you can.”
Shayne shares his own challenges with starting personal projects, highlighting the difference between obligations and passion-driven creativity: “If it was something that was purely for fun, then it's a little different.”
Amanda adds, “A passion project has to be something that's fun... it's like a fire that's inside of you,” underscoring the necessity of passion in creative endeavors.
Tommy elaborates on his process, mentioning, “I feel like Servicing fear. That's actually what I serve the most,” pointing to fear of time slipping away as a motivator for his work.
