And I'm Amanda. And we have two very, very special guests with us today. Sid and Olivia. Hi, guys.
Shane
Hi.
Sid
Hi.
Amanda
Hi. Hi. I feel like you guys are going to your doctor's appointment. Hi.
Sid
Hi.
Amanda
Hi.
Olivia
Hi.
Shane
Hello. For those watching and listening, Sid and Olivia have worked with Smosh over the years plenty of times. But this whole episode is about Smosh the sitcom. The. This Friday, 6pm or wait, yes, 6pm.
Amanda
The pre show is at 5:30pm It's a 90 minute show. And then we have a VIP after show.
Shane
That's right. But pretty sexy talking about it. And Sid and Olivia, you both pretty much wrote this entire sitcom.
Sid
Sorry. Sorry.
Shane
So we're going to talk about that today. Thank you for being here.
Olivia
Thank you for having us. Thank you for letting us into the building.
Sid
Yeah, thank you for letting us back.
Shane
It's been so fun just having you both around again.
Sid
I know you. You had to, like, take security measures and we have to have people.
Olivia
We have your picture with a security guard. Well, we're. We're both on a no Fly list, so it really does mean the world.
Sid
It means the world to be allowed in the building.
Shane
What happened? How did you get on the no Fly list?
Olivia
Oh, that I'm not at liberty to say.
Amanda
I think their lawyer said they weren't allowed to say it.
Olivia
Our lawyer said.
Shane
Who's standing off camera?
Olivia
How are you?
Amanda
This is.
Olivia
But, yeah. So it's just like an honor to be sitting.
Sid
Honor to be out of jail. Our ankle monitors are buzzing. Right. Fussing off the charts where we're allowed to be in the vicinity of where we're.
Olivia
But yeah, before we.
Shane
Before we rolled today, I was like, all right, we just need to buckle up. This is gonna be insane.
Amanda
Yeah. We have a plan, but fuck it.
Shane
Yeah, who cares? Just to. Just to introduce this. This smarts. The sitcom was an idea that I pitched, like forever ago. We finally, this year were like, let's do it. And then it was kind of just given to me, and it was just like, all right, Shane. Who should. Where? They're like, who do you want? Who you think should write it? And I was like, well, I want it to be insane. I need it to be as insane as bonkers. So truly, it was like, all right. Sid and Olivia are the perfect people to write that. And then we brought you guys in. I kind of met with you guys, I remember. And I was like, all right, so here's the. The premise. Here's what I'm thinking. Here's all this stuff. And it was like, all right, and I'll talk to you guys in a couple of days. You're like, all right, see ya.
Amanda
And then they're like, we got this.
Shane
Explosions behind created magic. It's.
Amanda
It's so funny. The script is so, so, so funny.
Olivia
Yeah. I don't know if it's magic. It's definitely chaos.
Sid
Chaos is, like neutral magic. You know, magic sounds good. Chaos is good or bad.
Amanda
Well, we'll find out May 10th.
Sid
It's chaotic. Neutral.
Shane
It's a tough thing to write, too, because where I'm like, all right, so write out this script. But we need to have a ton of surprises and traps for all the performers. Everyone's. There's two actors per character. And also, all of this script can be improvised.
Olivia
Yes.
Shane
Yeah. Nothing is held to it on the night of. I mean, I certainly plan on just going off the rails and not doing what anyone expects.
Olivia
Yeah. The idea is we want to break the show. We want the show to break. We want every. We said. We kept saying the best possible thing that could happen is a light could fall. Like, if a light in the studio falls down. On Krungle. On Krungle and somebody gets maybe injured, it would be the best possible thing to happen.
Sid
If I get injured, it would be so funny because then no one would be hurt, but it would be so funny.
Olivia
What? You're not a Olivia.
Sid
That's even funnier.
Shane
Or a person.
Sid
It is funnier if, like, a crew.
Olivia
Olivia was like, he's, like, holding up the cue card.
Sid
But I'm volunteering because it's not funny if I volunteer anyone else to do.
Olivia
Right, Totally. But you're not on camera. So then what it is is just a real injury in real life that nobody knows about, which is funny for us.
Sid
Which is fun. Funnier.
Shane
The articles after. Very funny.
Sid
I think it's funny.
Amanda
So Sid and Olivia want one of the cast members to get injured and We.
Sid
We're gonna spread it. Spread it.
Olivia
Me on that.
Shane
But it's. It's. It is really funny that, like, in writing it out, in talking about it all, like, I've been nervous and. But I've been nervous in the way of, like, I truly have been saying, like, I hope it goes wrong. Like, I want this to go wrong in. In the correct.
Amanda
But not like those plays that are like, Peter Pan gone wrong.
Olivia
No.
Sid
Because they all know what's gonna happen.
Shane
Not Spider Man. I don't want someone swinging around with.
Olivia
Yeah, we're hoping for no deaths.
Sid
Yeah, we're hoping for no injuries.
Shane
Well.
Olivia
Well, no, I think it's just gonna be absolute chaos, destruction. Yeah, it's gonna be fun.
Sid
We wrote something and now we get to break it.
Shane
Yeah.
Sid
And it's already breaking, and I'm so happy about it.
Shane
It's a blast. No, already rehearsing it. I'm like, this is gonna be nuts, man.
Amanda
So, like, how did you guys go about writing this with all of those added things that you had to do?
Olivia
We wrote it like a fanfiction.
Sid
Yeah. We write each other fanfictions for, like, every hol.
Shane
Really?
Amanda
Yeah.
Shane
How long are these fanfictions?
Olivia
So long. And like, so long It'll be like.
Sid
70 pages in 14 point comic San.
Olivia
And everyone always will say, like, recently it was Olivia's birthday, and obviously I wrote her a fan fiction that took me days. And it was so stupid, and I was getting really stressed about it, and I would be, like, sitting downstairs and being like, oh, my God, I gotta break this story. Like, when does the tornado come in? Like, it's, like, so crazy.
Shane
Can I ask a premise of any of these fan fans?
Sid
There are a lot of them. Are tornado coming in based on weird, deep inside jokes? So, like, other jokes.
Olivia
We've known each other for half of our lives.
Shane
Right.
Sid
Literally starting now. Half of our lives.
Olivia
And so there's a lot to pull from. So it'll be like a joke on a joke on a joke on a joke on a joke.
Sid
The most too recent ones were, like, a side job. We were working that. We were like, okay, it's a fan fiction about this side job. Not you guys. Not Smosh.
Olivia
No, not Smosh.
Sid
It's not Smash.
Amanda
It's Fan and Havana.
Sid
We can. It's just not.
Olivia
We did a side job that was meant for children.
Sid
And so, of course, there's a lot of stuff.
Shane
I'm aware of this.
Olivia
Yes. So the fanfiction was a bunch of pitches that never made it. And they're all the worst thing you could ever possibly think of.
Sid
Unread, unreadably bad.
Amanda
This is so fun. This is really. You guys have this every holiday, every.
Olivia
Birthday, and everyone around us will be like, oh, so you give yourself homework.
Sid
Yeah. No, like last week, which is true. When I wrote the one that was. Same kind of premise, but different take on it. Same job, same, but different take.
Olivia
Different. Different franchise. Same job.
Sid
Yes. And I wrote. I just, like, literally, I quit a job to write it because I was like, I need time to write.
Shane
No, no, no.
Olivia
She quit that job to write it.
Sid
I did. I did, I did, I did, I did, I did, I did.
Olivia
So she did the same job, but for free.
Sid
And I was like, I have to get home early because. Yeah, so.
Shane
So you're putting days of work.
Olivia
Months. Like, months. Like, this comes months before horrifying.
Shane
Because, Olivia, your birthday was as of recording this just a couple days ago.
Sid
Yeah.
Shane
Happy birthday. But. So how long before her birthday did you start working on your story?
Olivia
I had the idea in January.
Amanda
Yeah.
Sid
Yeah.
Amanda
This is the coolest thing ever.
Shane
That's so sweet.
Amanda
Wait a second.
Sid
It's the best.
Amanda
They're all saved, right?
Olivia
Oh, yeah.
Sid
And they're printed out, too.
Amanda
Are you ever going to, like, create like a little, like a.
Sid
No one else can. I mean, you could. It's.
Olivia
No.
Amanda
Just for each other.
Shane
Then I would. Because what you guys write, like, what you wrote in this sitcom is so batshit crazy. I cannot imagine what you guys are just writing for each other.
Sid
That only off the rails.
Olivia
Not of this planet.
Sid
No, it's not allowed.
Olivia
And it's all misspelled. That's the other thing.
Sid
It has to be misspelled. All misspelled purposefully. Of course.
Olivia
It's all misspelled.
Sid
I can misspell.
Shane
I know, but I didn't know if. It's just like.
Olivia
It's a shame that it's fast.
Shane
No, but let's spell misspell purposes is so funny.
Sid
It's the only thing I like to do.
Olivia
We add numbers into words. Like, it's great.
Sid
Yeah. And we'll use.
Olivia
Yeah, it's like an actual. I'm saying it's like an actual crazy person wrote it. Recognizing.
Amanda
The awareness right now.
Olivia
Recognizing that, yes, we are unwell.
Sid
Yeah. And like.
Olivia
Okay, so we're ill.
Sid
So let's get one thing straight.
Olivia
We're ill. We're ill. And we came in to help You're. You guys.
Sid
We came in to make you guys sick like us.
Amanda
Know what? I can't I can't stop forgetting about when you told me, Sid, when your mom or someone walked in and you had a beard and you were braiding it, and you were like. And she's like.
Sid
She's like, we didn't even know each other.
Olivia
It was my Joker origin story is I was in, like, fifth grade and I was sitting in my room. I lived in Vegas. So already, if you're a fifth grader living in Vegas, like, you are going to become the Joker. And I. I was, like, sitting in my room alone, and my mom walked in and she looked over and what she saw was me wearing a fake beard, braiding it, looking at nothing. And then she looked at me and went. And I was like, what? And that defined the rest of my personality for all of time.
Shane
Your mom was like, she's gonna be a writer.
Sid
Cut.
Amanda
Was my favorite story ever.
Olivia
She was just like, oh, God. This came out of me.
Sid
Yeah. God damn it.
Olivia
God damn it.
Sid
Yeah. No, cut to. Meanwhile, I was at the same age I was obsessed with making movies.
Olivia
Hot to.
Sid
Hot to. But my favorite thing to do because I also was a kid who ate more than I was told I was supposed to. I was like, oh. Like, I would film myself. I'd make a movie, quote, unquote, that was like, oh, the. The joke is, I sit down, eat three full meals, and then I play it backwards.
Olivia
Now.
Sid
I was like, nine. So, like, it wasn't that elevated of a joke. It wasn't quite a joke. It was more an excuse for me to eat three meals.
Olivia
It's not a joke.
Sid
No, it's.
Olivia
It's not a joke.
Sid
It's not. It's just sickness. So meanwhile, you're crying.
Shane
You told us this story.
Sid
And I also. I had a lice haircut. I had a lice haircut and crutches. And I was just like, this, like, awful little, like, thing.
Olivia
She would sit on her neighbor's yard to eat different snacks.
Sid
Oh, my God. Because I would go.
Olivia
Her parents would be like, no more.
Sid
They'd be like, please stop. We know you're not even hungry anymore. Why are you doing this to yourself? And I'd be like, yeah, I'm fine. I'm gonna go hang out with the neighbors. And then I'd grab food and I'd go and I'd eat it on their lawn. And then I'd come back being like, they weren't home. So anyway, and then we met.
Amanda
All of the snacks are gone then.
Sid
Yeah, all the snacks are gone. We gotta get more. Then we met when we were 14, and now we're okay. We're not okay, but you know what I mean.
Shane
Early on in writing this. This show, Amanda, you were in the writer's room for this day, and we were like, let's go to lunch. And we go to lunch, and you guys are recount story. And we're like, at a busy restaurant, there's people sitting next to us. But you. We're laughing. I'm laughing out loud so hard. Crying. Guys are saying, come up for air.
Amanda
And we just look at each other and we go, do you know what's happening?
Shane
I don't know what's going on. I'm like, I think they're telling their life story. And it's the funniest ever.
Sid
I think they're.
Olivia
I think they're telling us their life story. I can't tell.
Sid
I think it's talking about itself.
Amanda
No, it was so funny because it made things so clear in my head who you guys were. I was like. And I already had known you for a while, but I was like, oh, no. I needed these stories to really connect and understand.
Olivia
Yeah. How did. How did it get that way? Yeah.
Amanda
Yeah, exactly. I was like, oh, that's how it was made.
Olivia
Yeah.
Shane
Just. Even just sitting and having a conversation with you guys is truly like watching a show.
Sid
Oh, my God.
Shane
Because you guys, I've never known two people who go at such rapid pace. Like, you do. Like, just. Just what we just experienced just now.
Amanda
You guys don't finish.
Shane
Listeners are like, whoa. Like, it's fascinating. You guys are in, like, lockstep with each other, too.
Amanda
Yeah.
Shane
The amount of times you guys say things at the same time.
Sid
Oh, it's terrifying.
Shane
And you're not twins.
Sid
No.
Shane
Like, you're not even related.
Amanda
Not related.
Sid
The weirdest thing is that people will say, like, we'll do a sketch. And, like, we just did a sketch. And there are so many comments that are like, it took me eight watches to realize these are two different girls. And it's like, we don't look anything like each other.
Olivia
Entirely different.
Sid
We're both just white. No, you're both just white.
Olivia
And. And I understand.
Sid
We have completely different faces, completely different.
Olivia
Hair colors, just that we both are talking at both loud and white. It's truly just that instead of talking with you and being on the same plane as you, our eyes are different. We're like. And you're like, stop.
Sid
And you're like, oh, my God. And then I guess maybe you're overwhelmed. And then you're like, there's Two of them. I thought I was seeing devil because I thought I was having a panic attack.
Olivia
Yeah.
Amanda
First of all, both of you are so different in my eyes. Like a. You look so different, but you guys have such different vibes. Like, I feel like when you're talking Olivia, you're sick. Olivia's, like, going off on this, like. Like, she's so excited she's in this room since going, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And then she goes in, and then Sid will, like, do the, like, oh, okay. They're not on the same page. Let's gather. Let's gather around. And Olivia's like, oh, yeah, we'll get on the same page. But hold on one second. Let me just go to this other place.
Sid
It's really good.
Shane
The same. But then occasionally you're like that. The two masks, the, like, happy mask and the sad mask.
Olivia
I'm always the sad mask.
Shane
You guys are ranting, and then all of a sudden you'll kind of stop and you'll look at me and you'll just be like, yeah. What do you think about that?
Amanda
What I think. I think it's that you bring it.
Shane
What?
Amanda
You guys just bring it back to a.
Olivia
What do you think about that?
Amanda
It's. Cause you have a lower register voice, so it cuts through everything so good.
Olivia
I don't know what it is, but I think. I mean, I think I have. Well, I have resting, depressed face. And, like, I truly will be sitting just kind of relaxing. And someone's like, God, what happened to you?
Sid
Are you okay?
Olivia
Like, are you okay? And I'm like, oh, no, I'm just relaxing and I'm okay.
Sid
Just relax.
Olivia
Like, I'm relaxing. And thank you for asking. I'm watching Vanderpump Rules.
Sid
Yeah, I'm fine thinking about pottery.
Olivia
And so I think people assume I'm sad when I'm not. I just look like this one of my eyelids is a little lazy. That can be. I don't throw people off. But. But so like, sometimes, especially when we were younger and like, we're trying to understand us as well.
Sid
What's the difference between.
Olivia
Because we, like, started writing together when we were in college, and then we were getting repped as a duo, like, right. Coming out of college, we would go on all these general meetings where people would be like, okay, I've got you two.
Sid
You know what you two are? You're the fox and the hound.
Olivia
Like, they would give us a fox.
Amanda
And the hound so that what she's.
Olivia
Giving you is a joke on. A joke on A joke on a joke that we haven't explained. Even the first joke.
Amanda
I hope there's fan fiction about that.
Olivia
What it is, is that people would relate us to other duos and be, you're the this one, and you're the this one. You're the this one and you're the this one. Eventually we started making jokes about that they would escalate. You're Mary Kate and Ashley. Oh, I get it. You're the this one and you're the this one. Oh, I get it. You're the fox and the H. That's where that came from.
Sid
Yeah, I went. I went A to Z.
Amanda
What were the babies?
Sid
I didn't give a fuck. I didn't give a fuck.
Olivia
See, that's what I meant.
Amanda
Is she going. And then. And then Sid's going, you asked us a question. You asked us a question. What's the biggest duo that they compared you guys to? In the beginning?
Olivia
At the beginning, obviously, everyone was like, oh, it's Broad City. Because we're two girls.
Amanda
Oh, God.
Olivia
And here's the thing. I love them.
Sid
I don't favor anything like that.
Olivia
I love Broad City. But Broad City did Broad City.
Sid
So we as Broad City.
Olivia
Broad City because Broad City did Broad City.
Amanda
Only comparison that they. I swear.
Olivia
Yeah, well, it's. Cause, like, a lot of women aren't allowed to do anything. And so. So when women are allowed to do anything, people go, oh, it's like that. I saw a woman do that once. Okay. And you go like, sure, for sure. So, yeah, people will do that. But then, like, for a long time, we were like. Everyone's like, oh, I get it. Olivia's the happy baby and Sydney is the sad baby.
Amanda
Just like what Shane just did to you guys.
Shane
Okay. I'm just saying, when you guys are. Occasionally you turn into that. When. Okay, so what age were you when you met?
Olivia
14.
Sid
I was 14.
Shane
I'm trying to picture you guys before you knew each other. Fourteen, because it's kind of like thinking.
Amanda
About braiding her beard.
Sid
I was counterculture.
Shane
You know who I picked?
Sid
I was emo.
Shane
You were emo. You as emo sounds. So I was punk, cuz, like, you're. You're emo. And people are like, how are you feeling? You're like. Like, yeah, I'm feeling kind of sad today. Like, I'm feeling that. No, 100% sad right now.
Sid
That's what. Yeah, it's that. It's like. I don't know. I'm having, like, pretty much a terrible time. It's Just like.
Shane
Okay, you met when you're 14.
Sid
Yeah.
Shane
What was. What was your. How quickly did you guys become like.
Olivia
This took a second. Yeah, it took a second really well because we were. I was a year older, so.
Sid
But not anymore.
Olivia
But not anymore. Now I went backwards, so now I'm a year younger.
Sid
Yeah. And now I'm aging. She's aging backwards. We're trying to figure out how to.
Olivia
Get in the middle.
Sid
Yeah, I'm gonna. I'm talking to the wizard this weekend. I'm trying to go, yeah, yeah, we're.
Olivia
Gonna talk to the wizard and figure it out.
Sid
But we were on an improv team together. We were in different grades, and they were like, you guys aren't allowed to be in a scene together. Cause no one to talk. And then we were like, heard, heard. Absolutely heard, Chef. And then when we. When she went to UCLA and then the next year I got in, I was like. I called her. I was like, should I go?
Olivia
And she was like, you're going, actually, yeah.
Sid
And then it started. And then that's when it began. Like, that's when, like, us being a duo began. Not us.
Olivia
In high school, we were friends and we were, like, hanging out, too, but. And we, like, were on the same.
Sid
Improv team, but we had all the same friends.
Olivia
We were, you know, in.
Sid
You know, it wasn't a high school.
Olivia
When you're like a grade difference, there's, like, more of a difference there.
Amanda
Big time cla.
Shane
The same time as Angela.
Amanda
Yeah, yeah, they know Angela.
Olivia
I met Angela my freshman year of college.
Shane
What?
Olivia
And we had. There was like. It was like we were both in theater, and there was like, a thing where it's like the bruin buddy system, where, like, everyone who is, like, coming in gets matched with, like, a person a year older than them. And I remember the first time I met her, she hadn't met her Bruin buddy yet, and I hadn't met my Bruin buddy yet. And we met and she literally went, do you want to just pretend we're Bruin buddies? And I think that's the right way I would do that.
Sid
I think it's. I think it's a match made in heaven.
Amanda
That's so cute.
Sid
Love, Angela. Angela's like an absolute 15.
Olivia
She's the best. She was, like, one of the first.
Amanda
That they knew each other. No. Yeah.
Sid
Isn't that funny?
Shane
It's a small town.
Sid
It's a silly small town. The town of ucla.
Amanda
Silly small.
Sid
Yeah.
Olivia
Yeah. She's the best.
Amanda
When you guys met, were you immediately like, oh, you're my friend. Or was it just like.
Sid
I think we were just like, oh, I thought. I always thought she was fucking funny.
Olivia
Yeah, I always thought she was super funny. We just weren't just, like, you know, we were all part of the big friend group.
Sid
Yeah, we were just mostly just like, being like, what's high school?
Olivia
Yeah.
Shane
I just feel like you guys so.
Amanda
Sitcom vibe together.
Shane
Were you guys like, this is gonna sound stupid.
Sid
Yeah.
Shane
Were you funny before you, like, were hanging out with each other, like, when you were, like, 12 and stuff? But, like, what did your friends think of your sense of humor?
Sid
I think humor is subjective, but I think so. I think, like, were you joking around the same weird. And I think that's funny because you don't.
Shane
I can't imagine any other friends who could keep up with the same pace.
Amanda
I.
Olivia
Well, yeah, I think we were in different types of friend groups and had, like, different experiences before we met each other. Cause, like, you were. Weren't you in, like, a.
Sid
Like a. I would always befriend all of the most fucked up people in my. In the AP classes. Cause that was like, they were like, really had really great, dark senses of humor. But they weren't like, comedy people or acting people. They were just, like, real people. The most fucked up people in, like, the smartest, most fucked up people. You were like, ooh, I'm an alert person. I would be like, that's my friend. Because they get what's going on in here.
Olivia
And I was in a friend group where I would stand outside the choir room during lunch while my friends made out.
Amanda
Wait. Watching the door. Watching the door for them. Making sure no one would go in.
Olivia
I would watch the door while two of my friends would make out.
Sid
And then what did the principal say?
Olivia
Oh, then the principal saw us on the security camera footage and called us into the office and said to them, like, hey, guys, like, during lunch, you gotta be in the lunch area. You cannot sneak off into the choir room. Sydney, this is sad.
Amanda
Oh, my God, you dead serious.
Sid
Sydney, you're the sad baby.
Olivia
She literally was just like. They were like, sydney, don't do this. This is not good. This is sad.
Amanda
You were just trying to be a good friend. Oh, my God, she is.
Olivia
Sid, here's the thing. I'm a fantastic friend.
Amanda
You are.
Olivia
If you want to make out with someone, I'll hide in an auditorium.
Shane
I don't think.
Amanda
I don't. What did they think you were gonna, like, dedicate your life to that kind of labor?
Olivia
Amanda, I did. So are you telling me I made a mistake here?
Amanda
Are we talking about Olivia now?
Olivia
All I do is prevent Samia from making out.
Sid
Yeah, yeah. Olivia is not allowed to.
Olivia
No, Olivia makes out. I stand on the door.
Amanda
But on the inside, when someone changes, you're just standing there.
Olivia
We're at a general meeting and they go. So the difference between you two is you make out and you stand guard.
Amanda
And you go, that's correct.
Olivia
And I go, that's right.
Sid
So, yeah, writing the script was.
Olivia
Did we write something?
Amanda
Yeah, you guys actually wrote a great.
Sid
Script, which was really fun because if of us.
Olivia
Which one of us is you guys?
Sid
Oh, you're Shane.
Olivia
I already know I'm Shane and I wanted to. Do you think so?
Sid
Oh, I think that you guys are the exact same person.
Olivia
I think you in general.
Shane
Oh, really?
Sid
I really do.
Amanda
Because some and I are the same person.
Sid
I think you guys are the same person.
Amanda
I relate so much to Sid because in my friend groups, I feel very similar to Sid sometimes where it's like got like the.
Sid
The mom energy.
Olivia
We do both have a. It's so funny because I think normally people would not see me in like a nurturing way, but there is a weird one, two punch.
Amanda
Oh, no, I see it.
Sid
If you know, like, if I.
Olivia
If you know me really well, I'm gonna fucking bring you groceries.
Sid
Yes. Oh, my God. No, the amount of. The amount of. You're gonna fucking fight. If you're having a not great day, like, she will be sending you an edible arrangement.
Olivia
You're gonna get one.
Sid
And it's like, what? You don't need to do that.
Olivia
You're gon.
Amanda
Yeah, see, I feel that from you.
Olivia
I feel that the thing that I can't.
Shane
But that's Amanda. I think that's more Amanda's.
Amanda
It is.
Olivia
It's so interesting.
Sid
I'm like, nobody.
Olivia
You're like nobody.
Sid
I'm like, no, you are.
Olivia
No, no, no, you are. It's. There is like different sides of the. Of the coin. Yeah, Yeah.
Sid
I think people. Okay, now buckle up. Oh, no, I'm going to use a big word.
Olivia
Is it.
Sid
And it's going to make me sound like a pick me. But I do like tushy. Yeah, people are tushy. No, I think people are dichotomous. Like, I think people have. Have opposite traits that they hold all the time. And I think, like, I'm seeing that in everyone all the time now of like, oh, you're this and this. And it's not that you're very this. It's like you are your most extreme trait. And the opposite, for sure.
Amanda
Yes.
Sid
So, like, and I. It's just like, so, like, I'm simultaneously so sane and out of my mind.
Shane
Yeah, that's fair.
Amanda
Yes.
Olivia
Yeah, that's fair.
Amanda
So in some ways. In some ways, I do relate to you on, like, that. The energy in the part when we get, like, excited and passionate, and then also when we reveal, like, I feel like I reveal things and people are like, whoa, yeah, that's really dark that that happened. And I'm like, no, no, no.
Sid
It's literally.
Amanda
No, it's fine.
Sid
It's great. No, it's fine. It's funny.
Shane
I think I was kidnapped. I think as comedians and also just, like, what we do, creative people. I think what, like, is crazy to us and not crazy to us is just different than a lot. Yeah. I realize that a lot when we read Reddit stories and, like, how we interpret things and people are just like, you guys are different than a lot of people. And I'm like, yeah, I guess.
Amanda
Yeah.
Shane
Like, being in our space, things that impact us or don't impact us, I.
Amanda
Think when it comes to that, I am very much like Olivia. And really, when I respond to things, I'm like. And you're like, okay, okay. And I feel like that's also kind of Sid's energy, but I don't know.
Olivia
It'S that different things bring out different things in different people.
Amanda
100%.
Sid
100%.
Olivia
And I think that the things I see in you, that I see in Olivia, are the ability to connect with people despite not really knowing them.
Amanda
Yeah.
Olivia
Like, seeing somebody and being like, I'm gonna make you feel so safe right now. Like, that's not something I have. But that is something you guys definitely have.
Shane
Yeah, I don't have that.
Amanda
You also have that. But you have to earn it.
Olivia
No, what I say don't have to earn it. What I have is I am the type of person that someone on the street will come up to and be like, I gotta tell you about my divorce.
Shane
Oh, my God. People do that to me.
Olivia
Yes.
Amanda
Whoa.
Sid
I think you guys are awesome.
Shane
I truly.
Amanda
What is that?
Shane
Uber rides are really rough for me because people just start telling me such crazy shit immediately.
Amanda
Why do you guys think that is?
Shane
I don't know. I think part of the problem.
Olivia
Yeah.
Amanda
Oh, it's your eyes.
Olivia
I'm like.
Shane
And they're like, my life story. I think, unfortunately, I'm too polite where I can't shut people down. I try it when I get into like a Uber. If I'm like a stranger's like near me trying to talk to me, I can't like, just be like, like, and look away. I'm always like, oh yeah, for sure. Like, but I never, I never ask anything.
Olivia
Yeah.
Shane
I'm not asking questions. I never ask questions. I'm trying. I truly, when I'm, because I have a social anxiety.
Olivia
Same.
Shane
So if I, if I get into it, I'm like, this person could kill me because they're driving this. And so I'm like there and I just, I'm like, I just want to, I just want to like, like be in my space and, and pretend that I'm alone right now. And then 9 out of 10 times they will start talking to me. If it's a guy, if it's a, if it's a lady driving, which I, doesn't happen too often. I, I feel like, I don't know. But if it's a guy, especially if it's a guy over the age of 40, I'm, I'm about to hear some boy. I remember one time I had eight, 15 minute ride, ride. And within that ride, he pitched to me his entire screenplay.
Sid
Stunning.
Shane
And it was, and, and the screenplay was enough for me to realize that this guy was insane.
Amanda
Oh, no.
Shane
And I was like, I'm fearing for my life.
Sid
There's nothing better.
Shane
And I love that he started off, he's just being like, he's like, yeah, I wrote this whole screenplay. Okay, I won't tell. I'm not, I'm not gonna say anything.
Amanda
Oh, no, no.
Shane
Okay, I'll give you the pill. And I was just like, without me saying anything.
Sid
Oh, that's amazing.
Amanda
This is so scary.
Sid
That's such spectacular.
Amanda
I, I, I, I don't know what it is, but like, I am a, I allow myself in like stranger situations like airports, Ubers, to be just a bitch. I am just like, that's so, I.
Shane
Wonder if that's part of it. Like, I don't, like, I'm just like, I don't know. I don't think I'm intimidating at all.
Sid
I need to get that energy.
Amanda
Oh, I, when I told, I think I told this on the pod maybe, but like I was running late for a flight and they weren't going to hold the flight. It was like one of those, like, it got delayed and we had to push through and the flight attendant was like, good luck. You got to push through all the people. And I was like, seat 31 or something. And I was like. And another girl was like, oh, my God, we're gonna miss it. We're on the same one. And she was like, you should go ahead of me. You look pretty scary. And, like, you'll probably get through the crowd. And I was like, okay. And I was like, excuse me, we gotta. I. I have to get to my flight. And people are like, I do, too. And I was like, do you have to get to your flight in five minutes? They're like. And I don't know what it is. I just become aggressive in a way where it's like, that's so hot, y'all. But I used to not be like that. I used to let people tell me their life story on airplanes, and now I'm just like, headphones in.
Sid
I love that.
Amanda
Do not. One guy told me that he worked on the Top Gun. One guy told me his whole story. He's, like, top secret. You know where Top Gun was filmed? Yeah. We're not allowed to talk about it, but that's where I worked. He talked to me for five hours, and I said, never again.
Sid
Wow.
Amanda
Never again.
Sid
I love meeting people and connecting to strangers. Like, I love it. But when it's not. I don't mind that consensual.
Amanda
When it's traveling, when I. When I'm.
Olivia
For.
Amanda
When I. When we're, like, forced to be in the same place.
Sid
I feel you gotta be able to set your boundaries, and that's very cool that you can. Well, I'm gonna learn that.
Amanda
I learned many, many hard times of, like, law.
Sid
Yeah.
Olivia
Yeah.
Shane
I guess we are the same in that way.
Olivia
Yeah. I mean, people tell me conspiracy theories at the dog park.
Shane
I. Bro. People love to tell me conspiracy theories.
Olivia
It's so.
Shane
It happens so fast all the time.
Olivia
And I'm like, how did we get here?
Amanda
Oh, my God. That doesn't happen to conspiracy theories. Not to me.
Sid
Not to me.
Olivia
No. It's the weirdest. It's so strange. I don't know.
Sid
That'd be hilarious.
Shane
No, I literally. I'm not actually kidding. One of my last Uber drives, it was short drive. He was telling me about lizard people and how he's seen them.
Sid
Oh, he's seen them. Oh, hell, yeah.
Amanda
He gets your blue eyes.
Sid
I think it's that you have.
Amanda
I think it's your blue eyes. I think our brown eyes just. I don't know, something.
Sid
They're shields.
Amanda
Something or. Or they want to tell us. Like, really, like, deep, sad.
Sid
Yeah. Emotional, like.
Amanda
And I'm fine with that, actually.
Sid
I mean, unless it's yeah. Unless it goes bad. But like, I love when. I love when people are okay. So if someone talking to me can make them more okay, I'm like, fuck.
Amanda
Yeah, I'm into that.
Olivia
I love.
Sid
I'm into that. So when we were writing the script, it was really funny because, like, you're.
Amanda
Gonna have to take it.
Sid
Shane came to us and he was like, I want it to be really meta.
Shane
Yeah.
Sid
And really chaotic.
Shane
That is ultimately the point. The. Yeah, the. The point of this is we're playing all these characters. We're. We've got this story out, but it's really. You're watching us on stage fucking with each other, trying to make each other break, trying to make each other laugh.
Amanda
So Mother's Day is coming up and there's a really cool gift idea. Get your siblings together and get your mom an aura frame. It's so cute. You can send pictures right to the frame digitally. Look at it. It was voted best digital photo frame by Wirecutter.
Shane
Honestly, this is. This is truly, like the perfect gift for my mom. My mom loves photos. She loves memories. I know that if I give her this and. And. And also my parents not technologically too savvy. But aura frame is so easy to navigate and you can be constantly uploading more photos from it. And I could upload photos to their frame if I'm from the app. It's so cool. And it's got unlimited storage and it's pretty awesome.
Amanda
Oh, yeah, it's perfect right now. Aura has a great deal for Mother's Day listeners. Can save on the perfect gift by visiting Oraframes.com smosh to get $30 off plus free shipping on their best selling frame. That's a U R A frames.com smosh use code smosh at checkout to save. Terms and conditions apply.
Shane
Back to the show.
Amanda
Let's go. Let's go over the characters.
Shane
Characters. Yeah, I love that. So you guys came up. We kind of. The pitch was like a friends. How I met your mother. Like a group of friends.
Sid
Yeah.
Shane
We weren't gonna do the family dynamic. Cause that's weird. Friends allows for anything to happen.
Amanda
The friend group.
Shane
So the first. First one out of the group is Benny. Benny, played by Damian and Noah.
Amanda
Perfect casting. All of these characters are perfectly cast.
Shane
It's got a lot of work, like rearranging. Have played anyone? Yeah, yeah, we felt that. We felt strongly about that. But we ended up kind of shuffling.
Sid
It on the whiteboard, just being like, no, not this person. This person here.
Amanda
So Benny Yeah, yeah.
Olivia
He's the self proclaimed leader of the friend group. We kind of wanted to make him like Chandler esque, but like, like less.
Sid
Less losery and more snarky. Like leaning more into, like the. He has a lot of long pieces of information. He has to deliver a lot of lines.
Olivia
They crush with that. Yeah. We wanted to like, lean into the fact that in so many of these sitcoms, there's like a character in the friend group who's like. And we all know I'm in charge and it's like, okay.
Sid
And like being snarky to other people. But you're like, if my friend was like, being snarky to me this often and like taking this many dates.
Olivia
Yeah, you don't like me. Yeah, yeah.
Sid
And so it's just like, yeah, I can't.
Olivia
His whole thing is he just observes other people's flaws and comments on them.
Amanda
He's like, someone used all the laundry. All the laundry detergent up. Someone's gonna have to pay for that.
Sid
And we have a lot of moments where he's talking to no one and like, other shit's going on in the background.
Olivia
Yeah. In parentheses. Well, luckily, to no one. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Sid
There's a lot of parentheticals for Benny that say to no one.
Amanda
Oh, that explains so much in rehearsal.
Sid
Yeah, yeah. Well, when you see him talking to no one and you're like, who is he talking to? The answer is out. No. Out. The answer is no.
Shane
He's saying it to hear himself.
Olivia
Yeah.
Sid
No, he's like one of the guys who likes to hear himself talking.
Olivia
Yeah. And then we have Martha.
Shane
Martha. Martha by Rasha and Chance.
Amanda
So perfect.
Shane
Really perfect.
Sid
Really freakishly.
Amanda
They look incredible.
Olivia
Oh, my God.
Sid
Look so, like, beautiful. Like beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
Olivia
Hot.
Amanda
So what's Martha's vibe?
Sid
We just took the trope step into.
Shane
The world of power, loyalty, and luck.
Amanda
I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse.
Shane
With family canola. Bullies and spins mean everything.
Amanda
Now you want to get mixed up.
Olivia
In the family business?
Shane
Introducing the godfather@champacasino.com test your luck in the shadowy world of the Godfather slots.
Olivia
Someday I will call upon you to.
Amanda
Do a service for me.
Shane
Play the godfather now@champacasino.com.
Sid
Welcome to the family.
Shane
No purchase necessary vgw group void. We're prohibited by law 21 plus terms and conditions apply.
Sid
Of like, the woman has one personality trait and it's that she's clean.
Olivia
Yeah.
Sid
Because it's meta. It's like, you know, it's it is.
Olivia
It's the Monica. It's the. There's always, like, the girl who's like, just clean. And she is like, you're no fun. You're just clean. And it's like, what?
Sid
And it's like, that's a really annoying trope to see. But when we're like, we're writing things to trope and we're writing things to be super meta, it's like, of course. Like, that's what the girl has to be.
Amanda
Oh, yeah.
Sid
I think girls be like. I literally am just like, no. Yeah.
Amanda
Just like, she's going to a business meeting but could get drinks after always.
Olivia
Yeah.
Sid
Yes.
Olivia
And like, no one assumes that she would have any, like, sexual desires because she likes the house to be clean.
Sid
Yeah. Yeah. Which, of course.
Olivia
Which you can have both.
Sid
Yeah. Clean is the opposite of sex, obviously, but she's a neat freak. Virgin.
Olivia
Yeah. And then we have, like, real life Dominic Patron.
Sid
Yeah. Classic.
Amanda
Oh, yeah.
Sid
So, yeah, Dominic's. Dominic is one of the only two characters in the whole thing that are just, like a real smoshlore character.
Amanda
Courtney's character.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
Also played by Olivia.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
Slays it.
Shane
Olivia's insane.
Sid
Yeah. She's so good.
Olivia
Yeah. It's pretty awesome. They're both so.
Shane
And Courtney just fully becomes Dominic.
Olivia
Oh, yeah.
Shane
Gone.
Amanda
I don't see it.
Shane
Courtney's not there at all. Just Dominic breaking. It's gonna be. I think Courtney will be the hardest to break.
Sid
Yeah.
Shane
But I've got plans up my sleeve.
Amanda
Because when you break, it's like, you know, a vibe of. Try not to laugh. You break, and then your exact character comes in and takes over and takes.
Shane
Over on that same line.
Amanda
Yeah.
Shane
Repeat that line. They just keep going in the scene. And if you just keep breaking, you just keep swapping back and forth. We had a moment in rehearsal with. With us where we. I think on one line, we swapped, like, four times.
Sid
Yeah.
Shane
And we kept trying to nail the line. Oh, it's gonna happen a lot.
Sid
It's so funny. And yeah, it's. Oh, my God, it's so funny. No. Yeah. Like, they. They're. They. Absolutely. We knew that, like, one of the tropes is like, you know, ladies man. The ladies man. The castle, the Barney, you know, and the Joey. And we were just like, well, that already exists in Dominic, which is perfect. Yeah. Might as well.
Olivia
Yeah.
Shane
Then we have Kevin. Love Kevin, played by Ian and Anthony.
Amanda
Yes.
Shane
The lovable loser. Nothing ever goes his way down on his love.
Sid
Always getting broken up with.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
He's always like, guys, I have a problem. He's always that guy.
Shane
Pretty much the main character of every sitcom.
Sid
He's like the Ted Mosby kind of just like, oh, this guy's a loser. But all his friends love him.
Olivia
All he wants is love.
Sid
Yeah. And he'll never get it.
Amanda
Yeah.
Sid
So. Yeah. But they do an amazing job. They get tortured a lot. I don't know if you guys will like that or hate that. That, but it happens. So buckle up.
Amanda
Poor babies.
Sid
Yeah.
Amanda
They're like being thrown about the whole sit, like emotionally, physically, for babies.
Olivia
But we love him. We love Kevin.
Amanda
We love Kevin and we love Ian and Anthony who are playing them.
Sid
We love them. Absolutely.
Olivia
The whole friend group loves Kevin. All they want is to do something nice for him because the last like 30 years of his life haven't gone well.
Shane
I know.
Olivia
And so, you know.
Sid
Yeah. It hasn't been his day, his month, or even in his.
Olivia
Yeah. So they want to, you know, throw a party for him.
Sid
Yeah. Yeah. And then. And that's Spoiler alert. That's what the whole episode.
Amanda
Oh, baby.
Sid
Throwing a party.
Amanda
And that's the core. That's like the core friend group.
Shane
That's the core friend group.
Sid
Hypothetically.
Shane
Then there's a couple other characters.
Sid
Yeah.
Shane
And then there's Krungle, played by Amanda and I.
Sid
This is the Krungle and Crungle podcast. Now you have to rename it from Smash.
Shane
From Krungle to Krungle.
Olivia
Welcome to the Crungle.
Amanda
The Krungle.
Sid
You have to change it. Oh my God.
Olivia
We're in between two Krungles.
Sid
Oh my God.
Shane
Between two Krungles.
Amanda
How do you guys feel?
Sid
I feel sexual.
Olivia
So activated.
Amanda
Finally someone feels sexual. From Krungle.
Shane
Krungle might be the biggest mess of all the characters because truly Krungle is inspired by a million things. Because it was. It's Kramer.
Olivia
Started with Kramer meets, but like I. Kimmy Gibbler.
Amanda
Kimmy Gibbler.
Shane
But for me, a lot of my inspiration is. Is Golden Girls.
Olivia
Yep, yep.
Sid
That's very true.
Shane
Krungle is like a. Somewhere between 50 and 90 year old Krungle aged, ageless. She is the kooky neighbor. Cuz every sitcom has a kooky neighbor.
Sid
And like a boundaryless neighbor that's like always in your space knocking over things. Why are you here? And we just took that to an extreme of like, what if there was someone that you really, really. It was like, we do not want you here.
Amanda
And they. And they say it to your face. Yeah, Like Okay.
Shane
But Krungle's just the best. She's a free spirit.
Sid
Yeah. She's a free.
Shane
She's. She's.
Amanda
She's lived many lives.
Shane
She's done everything. Yes. You know, because those neighbors, it's like, just. They're the. Yes. And machine. They're the way to introduce anything into the sitcom.
Olivia
Yes.
Shane
That's Krungle.
Sid
Yeah.
Shane
An absolute blast. We play her similarly, but also completely different.
Sid
You guys definitely have different takes on Krungle, which I love.
Olivia
I love. It is. Is. I'm just so excited for the Krungle spin off. I mean, there has to be one because, like, oh, my God, it's amazing.
Amanda
She has so much going on in her apartment.
Olivia
Her apartment is like skeletons.
Sid
It's just lining the walls.
Amanda
War stories. Weird. Like, things from her exes.
Olivia
Yeah.
Amanda
Like, you know that they were her exes.
Olivia
It's pretty awesome. I think she has.
Sid
She's sponsored by Hustler.
Olivia
Like, she has one of those police. What are the radios in the police cars?
Sid
And she's an Uber driver who tells Shane conspiracy theories on the way to the airport. Like, that's so. Yeah, that's. I'm so excited for you guys to meet Krungle.
Shane
It's a. It's an absolute blast. I, I, I can't be. It's my fault.
Sid
Yeah.
Shane
But Krungle's outfit is insane.
Amanda
So much layers and layers.
Shane
Heaviest eyelashes on the plane planet. And I. And when I got into all this makeup, like, I don't love wearing wigs and makeup and stuff. I. I don't know why. It makes me, like, tired. Yeah. I'm just kind of, like, out of it. But I get into all of this and I look in the mirror, I'm like, this is so funny.
Olivia
Yeah.
Shane
And I'm like, this is what it has to be. Oh, my God.
Sid
You did this to yourself.
Amanda
It fell asleep, like, so many times.
Sid
Just like.
Amanda
But even me, too. The eyelashes were so.
Sid
I hope during the show it happens that they just.
Shane
If I fall asleep.
Sid
I hope you fall asleep in real life during the show.
Shane
Once we get into the show, I'm gonna lose my mind. I'm gonna.
Amanda
I'm super physical.
Shane
I'm gonna chug. I'm gonna chug a gallon of cold brew before.
Olivia
And I'm gonna chug a gallon of milk for myself so that I throw up.
Shane
It's just like, it's. It's a blast.
Amanda
I'm excited.
Olivia
It's gonna be awesome, you guys. Absolutely kill it. It is, like, so silly. And stupid.
Amanda
I love our lines.
Olivia
Excited?
Amanda
You guys wrote our lines. They're so good.
Olivia
She has the craziest backstory that we never find out, really. But just hear hints of it.
Sid
You can sense it.
Amanda
You can sense it.
Shane
We know it might come out. Look, it's all. We can improvise whatever we want.
Sid
That's true.
Shane
We can take charge.
Sid
That's true.
Shane
Say whatever we want to say.
Amanda
I'm just literally going to yes. And everything you say. And I know that you're going to yes and everything we say. So whatever we come up with yes.
Shane
It'S going to get.
Olivia
I'll just say, like, the thing we knew about Kringle from the beginning is she's a gaslighter.
Sid
Yeah.
Olivia
And she absolutely was at the January 6th insurrection. Those were the two things we were like, so this is Krungle.
Sid
Yeah. We had it on a. You know, on a whiteboard. Kungle equals gaslighter. For, like, weeks in the.
Amanda
He is a gaslighter.
Sid
She's a total gas.
Olivia
He's a gas.
Amanda
Weird. No, you're being crazy.
Shane
January 6th, but not for the same reasons.
Amanda
As she walked by and she went, what's going on?
Sid
Yeah. She thought it was a farmer's market. She was trying to buy stuff.
Olivia
Invited.
Sid
She's trying to buy oranges from people. Yeah.
Shane
But she has a podium.
Olivia
Oh, yeah.
Amanda
And she has a poster for some reason.
Sid
Another big thing about Krungle is that Krungle's biggest want is to be part of the friend.
Shane
The group.
Olivia
She. And she'll.
Sid
She will never be part of the friend. Yeah. That's a huge.
Shane
She just wants friends.
Amanda
But she doesn't realize that she never will be. Like, she's like, I'll convince you.
Sid
She. Yeah. Which is great.
Shane
And then we have. Chosens are in it.
Amanda
Yeah.
Olivia
You know them?
Shane
The Chosens. I don't want to say where they play a part, but they're in it. But they're in it.
Amanda
But they're in it.
Shane
They're in it.
Amanda
And then we have.
Shane
And then we have Tommy's character.
Sid
Oh, no, we have one more other character.
Amanda
Yes. We have Young Sebastian.
Shane
Oh, my God. I completely forgot about the boy genius.
Sid
How could you forget? He's been here the whole time.
Shane
That's right.
Amanda
Young Sebastian is like a Young Sheldon vibe. Boy genius.
Sid
It's Young Sheldon.
Olivia
I'd call it a direct ripoff.
Sid
It's a direct ripoff. It's a direct rip off.
Shane
What if I walked in and you guys like. Yeah. So Young Sebastian.
Sid
Yeah. Yeah.
Shane
And I was like, what?
Olivia
Yeah, to the point where in rehearsal people are constantly accidentally saying young Shelton.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
And that's Angela and Keith. Keith.
Olivia
Which is perfect.
Sid
They are great at it.
Olivia
Yeah, it's awesome.
Sid
Young Sebastian is a boy genius. A boy genius. He's an eight year old rocket scout.
Olivia
And he's in the friend group. Cause what child isn't? Exactly.
Amanda
He's in the friend group. He's not forced by himself. In the friend group.
Sid
Young Sebastian is in the friend group.
Olivia
Yep.
Sid
And listen, he's got science magic.
Shane
Yeah.
Olivia
Yeah.
Amanda
He's amazing. He schools everyone. But also he's like. He's a little shit.
Sid
He's a little shit.
Olivia
Yeah.
Sid
He's a catchphrase. You'll find out.
Shane
Absolute narcissist.
Sid
Complete narcissist.
Olivia
But when you think about it, like, this is a trope of sitcoms. Like there was a show called Smart Guy and the whole thing is a child genius. Like, this is a real trope, which is insane. Urkel, child genius.
Amanda
Oh, Urkel. Remember when Urkel got a makeover? Does anyone remember this? He goes into a time machine and gets a makeover and comes out hot.
Sid
Oh, I do remember as a child.
Olivia
Yes.
Sid
Pass.
Olivia
I do know this.
Sid
Pass.
Amanda
He looks a little bit older. Anyways, whatever. It's fine.
Sid
He look over 18. Oh, pass.
Olivia
Well, you mean child hot. He gets hot for the other children.
Sid
Pass. How about because.
Olivia
Pass.
Shane
Do the other children.
Amanda
Well, I watched it as a child.
Olivia
It's important to specify. He gets hot for the other children. Yes, fine.
Sid
Next.
Amanda
As a child watching the child.
Olivia
Yeah, no, that's fine. That's fine.
Sid
So when we were writing this script, Shane really wanted.
Olivia
I want to double down on this.
Amanda
Thanks, Sid.
Shane
You watch.
Olivia
When you watch Boy Meets World and you're a child, you go, wow, Topanga, wow. Yeah, you're a child, so it's okay. Yes, but if you were an adult, it'd be weird.
Shane
No, I get what you're saying, because.
Amanda
I was a child watching that. And even I was like, typical childhood.
Shane
When I was young. Like Lizzie McGuire.
Olivia
Yes, of course. Wawa wooga.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
I never. Me and Lizzie. Nah.
Sid
Really?
Amanda
But even Stevens.
Sid
Shout out. Shout out to.
Shane
Yeah.
Sid
Yeah.
Olivia
That's the only way I show people I'm interested in them.
Sid
Yeah.
Olivia
And anyway, I'll never be loved.
Amanda
This is what I'm saying.
Shane
The.
Amanda
The bank.
Shane
Anyways.
Olivia
It is true. I do turn to you a lot and go, what do you think about that?
Amanda
Yeah, you do.
Shane
I forever ago. I forever ago. Went on their podcast.
Sid
Oh, my God, I was supposed to.
Shane
Be a ref, and I'm in the middle of them, and they were drinking, and I was sober, and just. They had a point where they ranted to a degree where I actually didn't know what was going on.
Sid
Yeah.
Shane
And then all sudden, you turned to me and you said some of the most insane shit ever. You, like, told me, like, a very.
Sid
Personal thing, and then you just, like.
Shane
Looked at me, and I was just. And I remember being like, I put my hand on your shoulder. I was like, it's okay.
Sid
We told Shane's dad.
Amanda
I remember being like, oh, my God.
Sid
We told Shane, like, show up. You're gonna referee us. We're gonna be drunk. That's the episode.
Olivia
Yeah.
Sid
And I think Shane didn't really think we would be that drunk.
Olivia
Oh, we were hammered.
Sid
We each had a bottle of wine to ourselves.
Olivia
We were hammered.
Shane
And we had technical difficulties, which gave you more time to drink the wine. Wine, of course.
Amanda
That sounds amazing.
Olivia
It was the best.
Amanda
Can I do that? But, like, join in on the wine.
Olivia
Oh, my God. Absolutely.
Sid
That's just a girls night.
Olivia
Like, I mean, listen, if we ever bring the podcast back, we'll do the three of us just drink.
Sid
And Shane can ra.
Olivia
And you can.
Shane
And I'll ra again.
Amanda
Oh, God. Poor Shane.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
Shouldn't be there.
Shane
Okay, so we have the chosens that are there. And then finally, lastly. We're not going to reveal the name.
Sid
No.
Shane
Because the name is so stupid.
Sid
It's so stupid.
Shane
But Tommy's character. Tommy's the one who's not gonna be swapping in and out of any. Nope.
Amanda
He is on his own.
Shane
But Tommy also doesn't have any actual lines. He has, like, one actual line in the script. Otherwise, Tommy's a fully improvised character on stage.
Sid
Tommy's a free agent of chaos.
Amanda
I actually think he's probably going to be my favorite character, because in rehearsal.
Shane
I was like, he's just saying insane shit. And that's personal.
Olivia
Yeah. I mean, it's. You can't. You can't tie Tommy down. You have to let him do anything he wants to do.
Sid
Let him go wild when he read the script. And we were like, you're going to be this character? He was like, well, here's the thing. That character's not in it.
Olivia
And we were like.
Sid
We were like, no, that character's in whatever they want to be in. Yeah. Truly true. They are in any part they want to be. And he was like, sorry. And we were like, yes, perfect.
Shane
The degree to which we can Try to destroy this show from within is crazy. Like, Tommy's characters in specific scenes.
Sid
Oh, of course.
Shane
There's nothing stopping him from. From just walking into another scene.
Amanda
He can do whatever he wants.
Olivia
Those are his rules.
Sid
And the thing about it is, we're not gonna reveal the name. Cause the name is too stupid. But we were coming up with. We were trying to come up with the name of a location, a location in the place. Can we say what the location.
Shane
You know what? Let's give a rundown of the basic premise of the episode.
Olivia
Right?
Sid
Sure.
Olivia
Yeah.
Shane
So the whole basis of the episode is trying to throw a birthday party for Kevin or surprise party for Kevin.
Amanda
Surprise party for Kevin.
Shane
Because Kevin doesn't get a lot of love. So let's show Kevin some love. And there's a couple locations in this sitcom, like all sitcoms. There's a coffee shop, and there is an apartment set underneath the coffee shop. Yes, that's. That's right there at the coffee shop.
Olivia
But underneath the coffee shop.
Sid
Underground.
Olivia
Because you know how sometimes in, like, how I met your mother, they live above. Or like you live above a coffee shop? Do they live above a bar?
Amanda
They live above a bar.
Olivia
Yeah.
Sid
So they live underneath.
Olivia
Yeah, they live underneath the coffee shop in this underground. It's subterranean.
Sid
It's never said.
Amanda
It's never stated.
Sid
It's just true.
Shane
But you listening to this podcast, you get the scoop. You know that the apartment is underneath the coffee shop.
Olivia
100% underneath the ground of the city.
Amanda
Yeah, it's underground. Yeah.
Sid
The coffee shop is.
Amanda
Apartment is underground.
Shane
Yes.
Sid
Yeah.
Amanda
So whenever I say I'm looking out the window now I know I'm looking at cement.
Sid
You're looking at cement.
Shane
Kle is the neighbor. So, yeah, she just lives underground.
Amanda
She lives underground.
Olivia
I don't even know if she has an apartment.
Shane
No, I don't even know if she's.
Sid
We know she lives underground.
Olivia
Lives underground.
Sid
She lives underground for short ways.
Olivia
But I don't know if she has.
Sid
Like, she's perfect at digging passageways.
Olivia
So, yeah, she's in a tunnel.
Sid
There's a coffee shop, like a central perk. And we were trying to come up with like, okay, well, what would be a stupid, bad name for that coffee shop?
Olivia
And obviously we asked AI.
Sid
Yeah, we went back and forth.
Olivia
So quick, shout out plug to AI.
Amanda
Oh, God.
Sid
I didn't use the AI. Pretty cool. AI.
Olivia
Thank you for all you do, AI.
Sid
We.
Olivia
We did chatgpt.
Sid
You're going back and forth. Well, we were thinking, like, what's something that's like, kind of inappropriate or what's something that's like a weird spin on something. Sid was like, I'm going to ask AI.
Amanda
What?
Olivia
Yeah, no, put it on me. That's good. We were like, why am I so sad, baby? In this.
Sid
No, you're fine, you're fine, you're fine, you're fine. We were.
Amanda
It's because you did that face. You were like.
Shane
We were like, clear. Smosh. Hired writers.
Sid
Yeah.
Shane
And then the writers hired AI.
Sid
No, we also didn't use the AI.
Shane
No, it was bad.
Sid
This is just part of the story.
Olivia
This is actually why you shouldn't use AI Is we checked to see. We were like, what is the most.
Sid
Stupid, inappropriate name for a coffee shop?
Olivia
And they were like, cup of brown. And then after that, we're like, but I wouldn't recommend doing.
Sid
Doing that because people won't come to your coffee shop. Shut up. No, Shut up, you idiot. So then we went back to us and our human brains. And then we were doing a joke on a joke on a joke on a joke on a joke. Shocker.
Olivia
And we came up.
Sid
We came up with the stupidest name of a coffee shop of all time. And it's so stupid. We were like, they're not gonna let us call it this. It's. That's too stupid. And then now it's called that.
Shane
Yeah. No, you guys pitched it to me, and I was like, yeah.
Sid
And we were like. And that's my favorite part about this whole experience. There's been so many things. You've been like, what about this? Knowing, like, that's not gonna get.
Olivia
Yeah.
Sid
And then you're like.
Olivia
You go like, yeah, that's fine.
Amanda
That's what I love about you guys, is that you guys will go to the that place and then be like, might as well just fucking act.
Sid
You can always be told to take it back. You can always reign.
Olivia
It's the only thing that happens is somebody says no.
Amanda
Yeah. Yeah.
Shane
But I realized we hardly cut anything. Like, there's really not much.
Sid
There were, like, rewrites and things that had to change for structure of game.
Shane
Yes.
Sid
But in terms of purely cutting things, because the things didn't work like you guys.
Shane
There was nothing that was too crazy. No, we've rewritten the script to make it flow, but we've not rewritten it because it's like, no, we can't say that.
Amanda
Yeah, but the breaking will be crazy. Like, who do you guys think is going to break break the most?
Sid
Me. But I won't be on Stage.
Olivia
Yeah. Yeah.
Amanda
But you guys. You guys are also going to be involved.
Sid
Oh, you have no idea.
Olivia
But I think of the people on stage, I feel like you guys are gonna break a lot and have to switch out a lot because I feel like you guys have a crazy. You guys are just insane.
Amanda
You guys wrote the best lines for us.
Olivia
I think you guys are, like, insane. And you both come in, even in the rehearsals, with things that I'm like, what?
Sid
Yeah.
Olivia
It's so shocking and perfect. And I think that you will make each other break.
Sid
I think you guys are breaking.
Amanda
I think so, too.
Olivia
You guys. Each other.
Sid
I think Keith and Angela are gonna break in a very different way. I think we gave them a lot of big words to say.
Shane
Well. Cause to be clear, if you mess up a line that also counts, you.
Sid
Have to come off. And then the person has to say the same line from the top.
Shane
They have to keep attempting.
Sid
And we gave young Sebastian a lot of dialogue that is purposefully jarring and all over the place in the structure of it. Of like. Like, first it's this topic, then it's this topic, then it's this topic. And it has nothing to do with, like, it. And it's. That's the joke for us. It's not like.
Shane
And also a lot of lines. We're improvising. We're saying these lines, but there's a lot of lines that, as we're saying, we're given a cue card off camera that we have to read.
Olivia
Yes.
Shane
That is something we've never heard before.
Amanda
Are you guys going to be doing the cue cards?
Olivia
I hope so.
Sid
I love that.
Amanda
That would be the greatest thing on the planet.
Olivia
I think so.
Amanda
I wish you guys could have the cue cards and then, like, change it if you wanted to.
Olivia
I wonder if we can. I would do any.
Sid
Anything.
Olivia
I don't know.
Sid
I'm crazy.
Amanda
Just the thought of having them there, having you guys there just makes me so happy. Like, during rehearsal, just having you guys there was so nice to be like, are they proud? Are they proud of us?
Sid
Oh, my God, we're doing the script. It is so.
Olivia
No, it's gonna be so fun. Like, it's. It's so dumb. So silly. Like, oh, my God. So fun.
Amanda
But it's so. It's also like, in order to write a. In order to have, like, a dumb, silly show, it has to be so smart. You have to write it so smart. That's the thing.
Shane
Really hard. I will say this is like, the hardest thing, because even pitching it to you Guys, I felt bad of just, like, how are you guys going to write this? This is insane. Where I'm like, write a script that's supposed to, like, be a fucking mess.
Olivia
Right.
Shane
And collapse.
Amanda
They're brilliant.
Olivia
I also think that, like, a big help has been Kate, who is directing it, and she, like, her big thing is, like, she's going to keep it as absurd as it is, but she's going to ground it in some sort of reality of the absurd world that it's in.
Amanda
Yes. So it's like, out to Kate.
Olivia
She's the best. But she'll, like. And she'll say things that are like. Yeah. So in this world, this thing is true. And even though the thing she's saying is crazy, she's like, okay, now let's find the logic of this world. And we're like, yeah, for sure. Like, that's the right thing.
Sid
But things have to be built in order to break things.
Olivia
Yeah, yeah.
Sid
You know, if you break nothing, it's not funny. But if something is built a little bit and then you rip it to shreds, it's hilarious.
Shane
No, and my hope. And we'll see on the night. But my hope is, like, the first, like, bit of the show, the first act, it's going to be crazy, but it's going to be like, all right, I'm watching a sitcom. And then by the end of it, I don't know, I. Look, if part of the set is torn down, if people are fully, like, if their costumes messed up, people are lost wigs. There could be a little bit of a fire somewhere. I don't know. I'd be playing with that.
Sid
I love a fire.
Amanda
Someone, you know, fire, injured, someone runs into a fire. This is what we want.
Sid
I.
Shane
The cameras go outside, and we're just on the street.
Sid
Not on the street, interviewing people about their conspiracy theories.
Shane
Just anything down for it. Yeah. So excited. That's what I'm hoping for. I'm gonna do everything in my power to make that happen.
Olivia
Yeah.
Amanda
And you're me.
Shane
I'm you. And so we. We're a team. That's also what's kind of fun, is that all the characters are kind of their own team.
Sid
Yeah.
Olivia
Yeah. It's awesome. And it's like, the duos are good.
Shane
The duos are perfect. They're really.
Olivia
It's a show. Duos.
Sid
It is. It is. It is. It is. You should call it Duos.
Olivia
Duolingo.
Sid
Yeah, yeah. Duolingo, the sitcom. Duolingo, the sitcom sponsored by Duolingo. And Nothing else.
Shane
Pretty cool.
Sid
No Duolingo sitcom would actually be great because duolingo gets it.
Olivia
Yeah. And also he got a bbl. Did you guys see that?
Amanda
Oh yeah.
Sid
Did you see the Du Lingo?
Olivia
Duolingo out. The duolingo owl got a bbl. And that's not a magic puzzle.
Shane
In real life, the duolingo owl is caked up now.
Olivia
Caked up. And like there was a video about. About it.
Sid
Yeah, they did.
Olivia
They did not like someone the gender of the owl. So I'm just gonna go with the owl.
Sid
We're gonna say that the owl got kicked. So the owl got a bbl. It is real. Duolingo posted it. They were like, come with us to get a bbl.
Olivia
If you get nothing else from this episode.
Sid
No.
Olivia
Go check out Duolingo's fat ass.
Sid
Yeah. The duolingo owl is.
Olivia
You okay, Shane?
Shane
Thinking about it.
Sid
Yeah. Just honestly, what do you think about that?
Amanda
Going back to who Sid and Olivia are compared to us? And I just like, I go back and forth.
Sid
I love that for you.
Amanda
I'm like Sid. I relate to that so much. Like you okay, Shane?
Sid
You okay, Shane? The Du Lingo Alice kicked up. Yeah.
Amanda
By the way, I don't think you're sad, baby.
Sid
No, I don't think so either.
Olivia
It's okay. No, it's not.
Amanda
Cuz you're not.
Olivia
That was the most sad baby response.
Sid
No, I. I think there's. I think there's. I think everyone is a full human being. And then there's the part of you that you lean into for fun in a social thing.
Amanda
Call out like the truth in the. In the thing. And some people are like, hey. And I like that. I like that because I do that shit too.
Olivia
It's the Judaism. There's just so much Judaism in there. And I just. That's it.
Shane
Oh my God.
Amanda
Wow. There's so much that we covered. Yeah.
Olivia
Did you guys get anything you need?
Shane
Did we get what we needed?
Sid
Are we still allowed in the building at this point?
Amanda
Definitely. Please.
Olivia
Like, is there anything usable here?
Sid
Yes.
Olivia
Okay.
Amanda
Yes. The owl.
Shane
This is gonna be a 10 minute.
Sid
The owl's the owl.
Shane
This will be a 10 minute episode.
Sid
10 minute episode all about.
Amanda
Wait. Okay, one thing that I wanna know is like, what was your guys, like, favorite, favorite experience of writing the show?
Sid
Oh my God.
Olivia
Getting to hang out with everyone.
Sid
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know. I know. It really is.
Olivia
Cause I just love you all and like I, you know, just love you. And so I like to see You. I love being able to hug you all.
Amanda
I know.
Olivia
It's like, it's such a gift. Like, what a wonderful thing. It feels so. And happy.
Sid
Yeah. So it's like no matter what's so nice, no matter what you make, it's like that's the thing that is like the hands down, like, just seeing everyone.
Olivia
Makes me so unbelievably happy.
Sid
I get so excited, like, having to be here at like 8 in the morning some days and being like, yes is crazy. Crazy.
Amanda
And I like, guess I forgot that I might not see you guys every day. And that makes me really, really sad.
Sid
Yeah, I hate that. No, we have to move into your basement.
Amanda
Yeah.
Sid
Yeah.
Amanda
Oh, no, guess I'm moving to my basement. No one's in there.
Olivia
Yeah, it's one couch. You guys just have to adopt us and then we'll just follow.
Sid
I'm actually gonna be really sad.
Amanda
Okay.
Sid
I'm gonna be really sad when the show's over.
Shane
Yeah, it's gonna be sad.
Sid
I'm actually gonna be really. I, like, didn't even clock that yet.
Amanda
I, I, I just clocked it right now.
Olivia
We're just gonna have to do more hangs.
Sid
I know.
Amanda
Actual hangs.
Olivia
Yeah.
Amanda
Yeah, you can be there.
Sid
Yeah, you can be there. You can ref.
Amanda
Yeah, you can ref.
Olivia
You can ref the hangs.
Amanda
You can sit in the corner.
Olivia
That's.
Shane
Super stoked for that, actually. It was really funny.
Sid
It was so upsetting.
Shane
I would be happy to do it again.
Olivia
So silly.
Amanda
Is that podcast out?
Olivia
No. Yeah, it's been out for years.
Sid
It's just called. It's called Sid and Olivia Talk shit. It's on YouTube and everything.
Shane
Yeah, it was a while ago and it was insane.
Sid
It's our top rated episode.
Shane
Really?
Sid
100%. Have you seen you?
Olivia
You're great.
Sid
You're amazing.
Olivia
People love the concept of you being there. They love the concept of us being irritating. Like, these are things that work well.
Sid
The episode is called We're Drunk with Shane Topps, so.
Amanda
Oh, that's amazing, cuz.
Sid
Yeah.
Shane
You don't drink on every episode.
Sid
No, just that one.
Shane
That one.
Sid
Just that one.
Olivia
Which is hard to believe when you see the episode.
Sid
Hard to believe we're sober. This hard to believe we're sober right now.
Olivia
Like, those girls are sober.
Sid
Oh, no.
Olivia
Yeah, okay, I'm listening.
Shane
I'm sad.
Olivia
I'm listening.
Amanda
Okay.
Olivia
These girls are not on any drug.
Sid
Oh, wow. Okay, I'm listening.
Olivia
Wow.
Amanda
Oh, look. God, I wish you guys were kind of in the show as like, a guest.
Shane
I, I, I'M I mean, look, what.
Olivia
If we move your. Your Guillermo from Jimmy Kimmel and we can sit in the. In a trench coat, we can stack.
Sid
It on my shoulders.
Shane
Look, Amanda, here's the thing. We don't know what's going to actually happen.
Sid
No one knows. That's.
Amanda
That's true.
Shane
There's so much that we don't know.
Amanda
There's so many secrets in this script that is redacted that we haven't seen that are just surprises that we won't know.
Sid
Yeah.
Amanda
So, like, I am kind of nervous and excited about that, but also like it.
Shane
Let's do it.
Sid
I'm so excited.
Olivia
It's going to be a mess regardless. We'll be sitting off screen in a trench coat.
Sid
Yeah, we'll be stacked on each other's shoulders in a big, long trench coat.
Olivia
Just regardless. So whether you shoot us or not, that's what we'll be doing.
Amanda
Oh, my God. 90 minute show.
Sid
And I've got strong legs. I can do it.
Amanda
Okay, good. Oh, so it's Sid.
Sid
Of course she's on top. What are you talking about?
Olivia
Yeah, I'm very weak. Weak.
Shane
She's.
Sid
She's light. She's light. I'm not strong.
Olivia
Olivia was a kickboxing instructor, so Olivia is very.
Sid
And she's very light.
Amanda
Yeah, I'm very weak.
Sid
