No, she was. We were at the airport because we just came back from Gen Con. But yesterday, late last night, I don't even know how it got.

12 hours ago we got home, but.

Started sending me like every picture from her trip to Maine, I guess. And it was the most mom coded shit of all time. And I was like kind of reacting to each one, like, whoa, awesome. Like, blah, blah. But it was so similar to like when my mom. And then my mom texted me a picture. Cause when I was in New York this morning and I was like, this is just like, Amanda.

Yeah. My mom will send photos of just like a landscape. Like, it'll be like the sun is setting. And she'll send a photo to our big family group chat.

And it's like the worst photo you've ever seen. And you're like, did you even think about the subject?

But I did. As we were driving in, as I was driving in, I thought of. I. When we first got to the hotel, which is a really cool hotel, the first thing we noticed was like, the shower, it had one of those kind of like. It just had like a clear, like an opaque door.

Yeah. So like, if someone's like, in the shower and you're just like, out in like the. Where the beds are.

Well, I know I tested, I was closed, but I tested, I was like, we're, first of all, we're going to test this.

I've noticed that with a lot of hotels. A lot of hotels, the bathroom doors are basically see through and a lot of them don't lock or they.

Ours was not even a door. It was just a, it was a sliding door.

My theory, because I've been to several hotels where that's the case, my theory is that people might like die in bathrooms a lot or like this serious medical, medical emergency might happen so that they can go in and they can be like, there's someone in the bathroom and they're on the floor.

The shower is pretty slippery.

Yeah. But, but then what we were, we found, we figured out there was a curtain. But I mean I was also, also thinking like, what scenario would you ever want to like, what would it be like? It would never be erotic to see someone shower.

This was years ago, but you know, you have to shower before you go get into the, the like pools or whatever and just showering when other people are around. I was so uncomfortable. Yeah, this sucks. I hate this.

I've never, I've never really had to do that. I. But we spot has been on my list. But everyone's always like, it is cool. Like, look out. We got to get naked. I'm like, honestly, like, the older I get them, I'm like, I like, bro, if you look, that's on you. Like, that sucks.

Yeah, no, the. The old dudes at Wii Spa did not give a shit. Yeah, I really admired that.

And it's funny because I literally almost know nothing about Wii Spa. People go there to relax, and you have to get fully naked.

No, I'm. I'm saying this was kind of the first kind of experience where I did smell a couple.

I have such a terrible sense of smell that I never noticed. Bo and I to the gym all the time, and I don't even notice there. And then occasionally, like, once in a blue moon, someone will walk past, and it's. It's like I. A physical force.

Now I really. You know, this is one of my million excuses to never work out. I cannot stand the smell of the gym.

I'm not gonna meet any really cool people off of this or anything. But this year at Gen Con, I'm.

Yeah, that was huge. That was my favorite bit is anytime we run anyone at the booth and I'd be like, and it's his birthday.

It kind of only worked on magic. And they gave me. They like. They took out a bunch of shit, just like gave it to me. It's like a bunch of packs, a bunch of starter decks and yeah. So I was stoked.

I don't play Magic the Gathering. I don't play any card games. But I do miss because when I was a kid I was really into Pokemon and Yu Gi.

Oh yeah.

I miss like getting booster packs. The satisfaction I would get from opening up a booster pack of np.

I know you could get so into magic.

I think I've played. I have played some.

No, I think Commander specifically is what really got me into it because it's like the way it works is you have one card and that's like the whole. Your whole deck kind of wraps around that one card. And then every other card in the deck is a different card. So you have 100 cards with different names.

So you're not like putting a bunch of the same stuff inside and so you get to have your pet card and you can play it Whenever you want. Like, you don't have to shuffle it in or anything.

See, that's what I couldn't believe is that you have a hundred fucking cards and, like, do you like them?

I do, yeah.

But I met a bunch of designers, like, game designers at Gen Con, and a lot of them also really fuck with Magic.

In high school, I would teach. I was just telling the story to someone. But I Would teach like elementary school and middle school students at like this kind of. It was a makerspace, which I don't know if you've ever been to one, but they have like a lot of computers. They're for adults usually, but they have like computers with like 3D modeling software, animation software. So you can go and kind of use that equipment without having to buy a lot of those expensive things. And so you can use their 3D printers. Is it almost like the Evelyn Cutter cutters? It is. It's like a library, but you're kind of there to make things. So in my hometown in Massachusetts, we had one. It's not open anymore, but it was for kids. So parents could drop their kids off or they could come after school. It was kind of close to all the schools so kids could walk or they could do like summer camps where they're there for a whole week. And I would do classes where it's just like, oh, let's do 3D modeling classes or like 3D printing classes. So they would go in to like auto or not AutoCAD. We had like a. I don't remember what it was called, but it was like a simpler CAD programming thing and they would like make shit that's awesome in the computers.

Probably 10 to 15. It was small.

Or I would just be sitting there and they're all playing Minecraft and then.

And then it's like girls playing video games. It's like them making a prison in the Sims. And it's like they're so systematically torturing people.

It's really messed up. Speaking of, this weekend, I booted Animal Crossing back up.

So it had been years since Crucified Tom Nook is just like.

Every year I had. I had not touched that game since 2020. Right. Because that was my lockdown.

That was March and April. That's actually. I think that's actually all I did in April of 2020.

We were all filming from home, but I would get my work done, and then I would just play Animal Crossing. And I would try my best to be like, oh, I need to stop. I need to take a break.

And then I just, like, I'm gonna hop back on. And so I put in so many hours. We were all playing together. We had, like, a Slack channel where we were talking about it, and I had forgotten what I'd done with it. And I realized when I booted it back up that I had deleted my island.

I think I remember restarting. I think in all of 2020, I put in so much time into it. And then I hit a point where months later, you know, I'm just kind of burned out, maybe, or unhappy with the island. I think it's all very reflective of my own inner struggle. Throughout 2020. And so I remember I tried to really remodel the entire island. And then I hated that stress. And then I ended up just. I remember just being like, I'm deleting this and I'm walking away and I'm done and I'm not gonna revisit it.

And then lately systematically executed that was.

Like read the burning of Jurassic Park.

But then I just lately was like, you know what, I'm gonna check it out. And hopping back on. But just such a different feeling playing it now than back then.

I think I'd fallen off by the time those updates came out.

I can't go back to a game that I used to play every single like all day, every day.

And I've also forgotten that Animal Crossing is meant to be played like short for like an hour a day is a really ideal way to play the game. Cause you.

And that one's super built to play for an hour, and then, like, you kind of play for an hour. There's nothing else to do, really. And where this one was, we were lucky. Cause we were all quarantine, and so we had to. That was all we had to do. And thank God it had a lot that you can do. And. And I'm such a. Skipping the days, obviously.

So those first few days. Because I'm remembering now as I'm playing it, like, currently, I'm remembering that I'm like, oh, those first few days, there's actually nothing to do.

I. So the final straw for me was I skipped days, and it felt like cheating.

No, they're in my fucking. But. So, like, each. Each thing. This is not. Not an ad, but truly not. So it comes with, like, the Uno thing, and then it comes like, a goal. Like a foil pack of, like, player cards. So you open, you, like, you pull, like. And each. You pull, like, NFL players. And each one has, like, special abilities.

So let me tell you, it's regular Uno. So you're drawing cards off the thing. You put the one in the middle, and then the next person goes. You have to match the numbers or the color, but you have another deck of cards that you build. I think it's eight cards, and you have three of them available to you. And they're all different colors, and they all do different actions. So some of them are like, target player draws a card or take an extra turn, or everyone draws a card. You take an extra turn. Or there's like, a lot of weird advanced ones that we didn't get to see. And if you play a card with a star on it, you get to play a card of the same color from your hand, essentially. And then you play it, and you target someone and do it, and then you reveal another. So it adds another layer of Uno where you kind of have, like, some strategy.

And I had been looking at her at the airport too. I was like, she looks really familiar. She was the one that demoed the game to us.

And we're like, oh, my God. Yeah. That was so fun. I was just telling her I actually really enjoyed that game.

And she was like, right after. We're like, dude, Jane's gonna love this game.

And she was like, yeah. And she was a designer at Mattel, and she wasn't the designer for Uno Elite. I don't remember how this came up, but she was like, yeah, the guy who designed that is really into magic.

[Alex]

Yeah.

And I was like, no, everyone's into magic.

[Spencer]

Everyone is in. Every designer is into magic. I just think magic's like. The gameplay lends itself really well to referencing for something else.

[Alex]

It seems like there's so many different mechanics within magic where it's like, oh, I want to focus just on this kind of part of magic. And I think we make a game based on, like, you know, this.

[Spencer]

Not even that, but like, the way that magic layers game actions. Where it's like, okay, someone does something, then someone can respond to that. Now it's on the stack, they call it. And then you can start putting things on the stack, and then something will resolve. You can put something else, and then you resolve it in order.

[Shane]

And that I take into account whenever I'm playing any game, it's like, okay, now we should do all these actions in a specific order. And I was trying to do that with Laneckbeard, but we fucked that up. I don't know if you saw that comment.

But it lends itself well to like, okay, I'm gonna design a game and.

Well, so then the creator of the Scott Cawthon, or whatever his name is, he did, like, an interview the day before, like, yesterday, guys, and he was like, I want to make sure that any collabs that we do with Fortnite or with Fortnite. He said that, and then we knew. No. Any collabs with FNAF Makes sense to fnaf. He's like, there's a lot of games that I like a lot, but I don't think it would be a good fit. And so a lot of people were thinking dead by Daylight horror.

And then people go up one at a time to face each other. And he was like, walk up on this bridge, and they bow to each other, and then they fight. And I was like, this is crazy that you. This has happened organically in the volcano area where you guys aren't just all killing each other. You have created this organization, this fight.

Like those videos of guys trying to do sketches in Fortnite, but they have to do it in a big hundred player lobby.

It's like the best game of all time.

It's a book. Yeah, it's fully a book. It's similar like Baldur's Gate 3 vibes, where you're just clicking things and then you get a whole spiel. I struggle with that and make decisions. I do too. That's why I'm like, okay, I need to really. It's the same feeling as reading a book where you have to really be locked in. That's why I love games like Animal Crossing, though, where I'm like, I don't have to think. I actually don't have to think at all. I could close my eyes, put earplugs in and just press buttons and I'll be okay.

See, I really want a game that makes me think about, like, how I'm playing it. I think, like, engaging with the gameplay of a game is really important to me. And so that's why, like, Animal Crossing I don't think I could sit down with again. You know, that's why Monster Hunter and Dark Souls is so cool, because, like, you are kind of studying as you're playing it, reacting to the way the game is allowing you to exist in its world.

I miss Monster Hunter a lot because that was my unemployed game.

Yeah, they're similar in vibe, but Monster Hunter was so repetitive to me.

It's like, oh, I go and fight that monster again.

In Elden Ring or Dark Souls. Like, you know, if you're going longer than that, it's like we've kind of lost Monster Hunter.

You enter the world and it's like, okay, you have 40 minutes and it's like, okay.

The GameCube, like those reflections or like the way the, like the curtains would blow and then kind of like dynamically get like sucked into your thing. Like, it's really funny.

I've only played three, which was the switch one, right. With the man with the. He's in like the hotel.

Yeah, Yeah. I think that was the most recent one. If there was a game that we could play on the game's channel that and we could guarantee like, oh, this is gonna crush.

What would it be? Because I feel like we. Monkey Ball. That'd be insane. If games became known for doing Monkey.

Now Monkey Ball is. It always seemed really fun. And then I play it. I'm like, yeah, this is fun.

It's fun when you play it a lot. You have to play it a lot and then understand how to break the game, essentially. Because watching speedruns of Monkey Ball is crazy interesting.

I mean, the thing I would love is if we could, you know, be more of like, a. Not like a Fortnite channel, but, like, you know, it's such a fun social.

Game where it just got so oversaturated for so long.

Yeah, well, like. And it's. It's funny because a lot of the streamers, like, they are, like, solo creators, so it's like they're not. They're. They're playing the game and. And they're talking to chat. But, like, you know, to me, that kind of takes away the. The group dynamic of.

That was whenever I played, I'm like, why is nobody else just getting in a car? It just seems like it's the smart move.

Well, the new season's just, like, all cars, and I think everyone's ready for the next thing, but.

Cause they're just fun to revisit. They're simple. But I understand why they don't typically get massive, like, views. Cause it's just like. It's not.

I know. You'd have to, like. It wouldn't be just. It would be every single one. Like, you'd have to do a different one every time you couldn't return.

It is cool that we're playing, like, N64 Mario Party and it's working, but obviously there's that whole twist to that. But I wish we could need more twists. We need more twists. I would like to do more on games. Like, you know, I like, like the elevated, you know, like elevating silly games to be like really serious. Like, those are my favorite moments in the darts videos where it's like, you know, we wanted like that close up camera on the thing. So you like really see.

And it's like two people commentating that are kind of lifting the comedy.

It's hard because you're kind of trying to think of what to say next. And it's hard to be in that mode while also engaging with.

But if you had a commentator who's. They're just watching the thing. I've seen a lot of baseball commentary clips lately. They're really Funny. Cause they're kind of just sitting there watching it all happen.

Yeah, that shit's the best. I mean, that's. That's the thing, right? It's like you kind of just make anything. We could just record a regular games video.

Know, like, maybe the Connect four thing is here in the middle. The pieces are all, like, on the opposite sides of the room. It's like, all right, you don't have to wait your turn. You just go as fast, but you can only go one at a time.
