Shane
Is that how the song goes? I think that's.
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah. In daylight. That's not the right words.
Amanda
Saw that.
Emma Chamberlain
I'm Broadway.
Shane
It's pretty freaking sad. That song is like.
Amanda
She was in all the biggest ones.
Emma Chamberlain
She was so.
Amanda
She was. She started.
Emma Chamberlain
She was the first cast of Rent and the first cast of Wicked.
Amanda
Jesus, that's crazy.
Emma Chamberlain
And she wasn't even famous. She wasn't even making a lot of money.
Amanda
That's.
Emma Chamberlain
Isn't that wild? She only started making money with Frozen.
Shane
Oh, my God. Wow.
Amanda
For the layperson like me, I didn't know who she was until Frozen.
Shane
Yeah.
Emma Chamberlain
Did John Travolta when he fucked up her name.
Amanda
I wonder if she.
Shane
I wonder if she.
Amanda
I've noticed because every TikTok or any video I've seen of Idina Menzel recently, all the comments are just Adele, Delzym. And I'm like, I wonder if at this point she is just so pissed off about it because you sent her.
Emma Chamberlain
A lot of flowers.
Amanda
Apparently when it first happened, it was funny. It was silly. But don't make that her legacy.
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah. Move on.
Amanda
Comment that under John Travolta's shit.
Emma Chamberlain
Exactly. God.
Amanda
Um. Welcome to smosh Mouth. I'm Shane.
Emma Chamberlain
And I'm Amanda. And we are going to be talking about memes, but we have a very special guest with us today. Trevor.
Shane
Hi.
Amanda
We can't talk about memes without Trevor.
Emma Chamberlain
Without Trevor. Because you're our guy.
Shane
I'm. I like memes. You know me. I'm a meme guy.
Emma Chamberlain
You're good at school guy.
Shane
I keep up.
Amanda
I should also preface. We spent the past two days having 12 hour shoot days doing improv all day. When you see the project that comes out you'll know what we were filming. So we're a little kooky right now.
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah, bear with us. It might get a little silly in here.
Amanda
We're a little silly today. The gas leak is strong.
Emma Chamberlain
Strong.
Amanda
Right before we started recording, though, Amanda was talking about how you fell off a ski lift. And I was like, halt. Wait until we're rolling.
Shane
Yeah.
Emma Chamberlain
Well, Trevor was talking about skiing and how he got caught in the snow when he was young and wasn't sure anyone was going to get him.
Shane
Yeah, I was just kind of sitting there for, you know, an indiscernible amount of time because I was a child probably, like, fourth grade. And, yeah, I got stuck and I couldn't get out, and I.
Amanda
Your feet were stuck in the ground.
Shane
It was like his whole body was. I was kind of sat prone. Like, my butt was deep. And then my skis were lodged, so I couldn't. Like, I couldn't wiggle my feet because my skis were stuck in the snow. So I was kind of just sitting like this. Sorry for the microphone. That's not great, I'm sure. And, yeah, I was just sitting like that, and I couldn't move, so I was like, well, I just gotta wait, I guess, until someone comes by. And then a friend of mine that I knew did come by, but he was such a tiny child. Like, he was just a very, like, small kid and.
Emma Chamberlain
Help you?
Shane
He couldn't help me. He was like. He tried to pull me.
Amanda
He couldn't dig the snow.
Emma Chamberlain
Not when snow's hard. Listen, mountain snow is tough.
Shane
Yeah. Well, it was also tough because it was like a powder bank, and there wasn't, like, powder in between some. Some trees and stuff, so.
Amanda
Love that show.
Shane
Good.
Amanda
Okay. So you're stuck in the powder. Yeah.
Shane
And then he's like, well, I can't get you out. I'll go see if I can find someone to help. And. Yeah, and then I actually ended up wiggling myself. I wiggled enough that one of my feet came out of the ski, and then I could kind of get a footing.
Emma Chamberlain
Wow.
Shane
Yeah. And then I just went back to the lodge, and my parents were very worried and everything was okay.
Emma Chamberlain
I feel like there are people who grow up around going skiing or going snowboarding and some people who don't. And it is the wildest thing to grow up with and then talk to people who have never done it. And it's like, okay, that's a whole life that I've lived. And I was telling you guys that I have fallen so much. I Have literally somersaulted down full mountains with skis.
Amanda
Your ass gets absolutely kicked.
Emma Chamberlain
Lost everything. And I did it with all my sisters. And my little sister was adrenaline junkie. She would have no poles and she would just go straight down, arms out, didn't care. My other sister was like a pro. She was really good at it. I was so scared that I would go really slow along the edge of the mountain. And my mom was like. My mom was so mad because she was like, you're slowing us down.
Amanda
Oh, my God.
Emma Chamberlain
I paid a lot of money. Get your shit together. We're going on a black diamond. Oh, my God, a black diamond.
Shane
French fries.
Emma Chamberlain
I was doing way more pizza. A black diamond is the worst mountain that you can go down. Cause they essentially build these mounds. So you're supposed to be like, I fell so hard, but getting there, I completely fell off a ski lift. But not like in the middle. Like right when you're about. The scariest thing is right when you're about to get off the ski lift and you have your sisters next to you and it's literally just. They open the thing and it's like a little mound. And you're supposed to go off and be like, yay. But my sisters were always like, let's fucking go. And I would have my poles out and I'd be, hold on, hold on, hold on. And they pushed and I fell flat on my face. And another chair is coming with more people. More and more people. So I was stuck and I was really scared. And I got no mercy. I swear to God. Skiing, I got no mercy. When I was skiing, people were like, hurry, hurry up. Like, get it together, lady. And I was always freezing. I needed, like heat warmers in my toes because it was so cold.
Amanda
Yeah, everything hurts more when it's cold.
Emma Chamberlain
But a ski lift is so scary. My sister once sat on it and didn't want to get off. I was like, nope. And when it just went back, it went all the way around halfway. And they had to stop it and then pull her back. And she was so little and she.
Amanda
Was like, why'd they have to pull it? Doesn't it just go back to the other station?
Emma Chamberlain
It's not safe to fall. It's very non safe because the whole thing's up funny. You're on a huge mountain and she was so little and she was like, no. And she just sat there crazy.
Shane
I got a deep cut reference that I don't think anybody's gonna get. But growing up, you know, in a conservative Christian Home. There was a comedian named Tim Hawkins who did like parody songs. He did one, it was a parody of With Arms Wide Open by Creed. And it was My Arms are Broken. And the whole song was about him bailing down a black diamond slope and breaking his arms. My arms are broken.
Amanda
That's really funny. On that big black diamond. The last time I went, I was snowboarding and I, I start of the day, I didn't know how to do it at all. By the end you kind of get like, you're kind of doing the very basic like going back and forth. But at one point I got like confident enough and I had goggles on, you know, and. And I start going and I made a wrong turn and I just fully like fly back onto my back. I slammed so hard that the goggles just into the sky. Dude. Just getting your ass.
Emma Chamberlain
It is so insanely dangerous. Like just somersault and have everything and then your hat goes somewhere and people are like, get out of the way.
Amanda
I know other people are going past.
Emma Chamberlain
You and they have no patience. They're like either. Get off the mountain. Don't be here.
Amanda
I know.
Shane
I think the craziest thing was being a kid. And like when you're a kid you don't have like ski gear. At least. Like I didn't. It was like you just go up and you rent skis. Like I didn't have poles when I was doing it as a kid. I had a beanie. I didn't have goggles. Like I was just raw dogging going down this mountain as a child. Which is probably why I got stuck because I'm just going down the stairs.
Emma Chamberlain
You didn't have poles?
Amanda
No rules.
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah, that's.
Amanda
I didn't have poles when I. When you're, when you go skiing as a little kid, they often don't give you poles.
Emma Chamberlain
No, that's why your arms are just.
Amanda
You'Re just like my hot take. I was constantly told that skiing is easier than snowboarding. Skiing to me is way more terrifying.
Emma Chamberlain
Oh, cuz you can.
Amanda
When I snowboarded, I was like, at least my feet are on the same thing with skiing. I'm like, oh, my legs are going to split off. It's.
Emma Chamberlain
It's your legs.
Amanda
My legs are going to split off. My dick is going to get completely ripped off.
Emma Chamberlain
Completely out. And the worst part is the shame and embarrassment because grown ass men or women who look fantastic are like, get out of the way.
Amanda
Brutal.
Shane
Because you're trying to slow down then and you're there and you Try and turn the skis in. And that's when you just go for it.
Emma Chamberlain
It's starfish and it's so embarrassing.
Amanda
God.
Emma Chamberlain
And your family has to wait for you. And they're like, dude, we're going to the lodge. We're getting chicken nuggets. And you're like, I'll be there in an hour.
Amanda
You're starving.
Emma Chamberlain
You.
Amanda
All you want to do is get there and you can see it, but you can't make it. Wait.
Shane
And like, you're skiing and you don't want to. Like, people just get on the lift going back up. So it's like your whole family, like, they get to the bottom and they just get on the lift. And then you're all.
Amanda
And you see them going back up, and you're by yourself.
Emma Chamberlain
What are you doing? And it's like, there's no mercy. I need help. I'm skiing down an ice snow powder mountain. Stop it. It's freezing.
Shane
I'm just sliding down like I've fallen and I'm not getting up. Like, I'm towards the end. So I'm just sliding down the last little bit. Everyone's going by.
Amanda
I accidentally went up a black on a black diamond when I my first time snowboarding. So I literally do not know how to do it. And all I had to do is I just unbuckled it and I just sat on the snowboard, loosely made my way down. Meanwhile, people are like ramping over you.
Emma Chamberlain
I don't care if you. If you are too scared or you take up. One time I took off my skis on a black mountain and my mom was like, fine, whatever. And I took off my skis and.
Amanda
Walked down slowly, but it's just a nightmare.
Emma Chamberlain
She just, like. I think when she sees her kids get scared, she gets worried. And worried comes out as anger. And she's like, no.
Amanda
And worry leads to anger.
Emma Chamberlain
And anger leads to rage. And she's like, you have to face this. And I was like, this is not going to help me learn. I'm gonna take off my skis and I'm gonna walk down the fucking black.
Amanda
It's such a nightmare when you're not really good at it. And then you have those moments when you finally crash and you just kind of sit up and you just sit there. You just look around. It's like silent. You're just like.
Emma Chamberlain
And you're like, I'm never gonna make it.
Amanda
Like, I'm gonna die on this mountain.
Shane
Just freezing cold. Can't feel your fingers inside your gloves.
Emma Chamberlain
And it's, like, puffed up. I feel like the jackets were puffed. I felt very claustrophobic. I had, like, the overall ski thing where it's like, overalls, it's all puffy. And I was like, I have 600 layers on. I feel like the kid in A Christmas Story. Like, I was just.
Amanda
You're also, like, you're. At the same time, your fingers and toes are freezing off, but your torso is sweating so sweaty.
Shane
It's like an oven inside, like, the eight layers. But then I have one small pair of gloves on, and my fingers are.
Amanda
Just every layer of hell at once.
Emma Chamberlain
And also, H has never skied in his literal life. And I'm like, do I do it with him?
Shane
Yeah.
Emma Chamberlain
I don't know if I can.
Amanda
You're talking about. You're talking about East Coast, Massachusetts skiing.
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah. Where it's, like, real snow.
Amanda
I've done Colorado skiing.
Emma Chamberlain
What's that like?
Amanda
It's. It's. I mean, it's real snow, too. It's just like. I feel like the vibe has got to be a little different vibe. Like, the. The culture.
Emma Chamberlain
I spent some time in Vail, Colorado.
Amanda
Okay. Okay.
Emma Chamberlain
So, yeah, And I've skied down there. And that was, like. That was like, a rich sport.
Amanda
Oh, that was rich. Yeah.
Emma Chamberlain
Like, matching outfits.
Amanda
You're talking, like, Aspen. Like, that's people flying from California to go skiing there. So you're. That's. That's rich.
Emma Chamberlain
And it was stunning. But I was like, this is rich skiing.
Amanda
Oh, it's bougie.
Shane
That's like, Sun Valley in Idaho. Sun Valley in Idaho is like, the rich. Like, there are a lot of celebrities that have, like, winter homes in Sun Valley.
Amanda
Whoa.
Shane
It's like, rich skiing.
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah. Mine was, like, Ragged Mountain, and it was like, good luck. I hope the chairlift gets you up there.
Amanda
That sounds better.
Shane
That was all the skiing that I did, like, close to Boise, like, up in the mountains was just like. They're, like, three different, like, big, like, ski resorts. It's actually really cool when you're in Boise in the winter, you can look up at the mountains, and at night, you see, like, this little triangle of lights that's. It's Bogus Basin is what it's called. And it's one of, like, the ski. You can see the lights that go down the mountain. Yeah, it's pretty cool.
Emma Chamberlain
Well, anyways, that's our skiing journeys, and now we'll get into memes.
Amanda
So we thought we would take this episode to discuss some of our favorite memes of 2024. We're like I said, favorite memes. So there are some big memes this year we are not going to discuss because we didn't like them and maybe nobody likes them.
Shane
Probably correct.
Amanda
But with the. We're going to discuss a few of them. There's obviously infinite amount of memes every year. I'm gonna start off with a little bit of a hot take.
Shane
Okay.
Amanda
I don't know if this was a good meme year.
Emma Chamberlain
No, I kind of agree with you.
Amanda
I don't think it was a really solid meme year. I think there's other years where it's like, really fun and really good. I think there was a lot of memes this year that weren't like. They were just kind of more of a theme that went on for a while.
Emma Chamberlain
I thought Smosh did better memes this year.
Amanda
Smosh had smash wise. Mosh wise. The memes were solid. It's been in the world in the U.S. i just.
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah.
Amanda
Kind of weak.
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah. I know.
Amanda
Like, a lot of the memes, some of which we're not discussing, were only like, kind of funny. Like when once we started making fun of it in an ironic way.
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah.
Amanda
But there are years where like 2016 insane year memes dying. No, they fluctuate. There's good memes meme years and good and bad ones. Like 2018 was a weird meme year where it came pure nonsensical.
Shane
Yeah. You can actually look like people will do like breakdowns of meme years. Like, almost like you have like, like periods of art. It's like you'll be like, this is like the post ironic meme era, like, deep fried, where nothing makes sense. It's just like an image. Like there is that markiplier one E. It was E. It was Markiplier photoshopped as Lord Farquaad and it was super deep fried. And it just had the letter E on it. And that was the whole meme.
Amanda
When. When it's. It happens occasionally when it just. We. We devolve, where the jokes keep layering on to each other until all you're doing is posting absurd nothingness. And then we kind of reset.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
And it'll eventually.
Emma Chamberlain
Those are scientists or historians.
Amanda
I mean, this is, yeah. Incredible.
Shane
I think this was an awesome year for like meme language. Like meme words. Because, like, I will say, like, I think like the mainstream, like, memes that you get like a lot of like, variations of weren't as good. But I think just as far as like, words go, like, I think Anything like Skibidi, Ohio, Gyat Riz. Like, that is awesome to me. I love that.
Amanda
But I think this. This year was almost entirely, like, ironic. Whereas there are years where, like, the memes aren't fully irony yet. Like, it's. The thing itself is kind of funny.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
I also think a lot of it was just, like, X was just not good for delivering memes like, it had been. No, its algorithm is dog. It's all AI, so it doesn't. It doesn't communicate it as well because it's not real people doing it anymore.
Shane
We need to go back to I funny.
Amanda
Yeah, true meaning base. Back.
Emma Chamberlain
I funny.
Shane
I funny.
Amanda
I funny. That's what I say. That's. That's what I say when I look in the mirror every morning.
Emma Chamberlain
No.
Amanda
I funny.
Emma Chamberlain
No, that's not good, Shane.
Amanda
I handsome. I funny.
Emma Chamberlain
I handsome.
Amanda
I worth it. I funny. Okay, so we have a list here of some. And, Amanda, you threw in some images you found on the Internet.
Emma Chamberlain
I went. I went meme hunting.
Amanda
I wrote down this list, and all of a sudden, I see. I see images popping up, and I'm like, way to go, Amanda.
Emma Chamberlain
You were like, what are you. You're like. You're working hard. Like, way to brag, boss.
Amanda
I was like, we were going to talk about these events, but, yeah, let's look at some images. No, you did the correct thing because.
Shane
I didn't add any images. I didn't have the doc. So I'm almost, like, the expert that they'd bring in on, like, Pawn Stars.
Amanda
Hell, yeah.
Shane
Like, we're going to bring in a meme guy.
Amanda
This is worth $100,000. Like, great. We'll give you 20 bucks.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
So one of them that I wasn't really aware of at first, it took a while, was Mu Dang, the baby hippo.
Emma Chamberlain
It took me a second, too, but the memes are hilarious.
Amanda
I heard the name before I saw the creature.
Shane
The creature.
Amanda
The creature. So Mu Dang is a little baby hippo who lives in a zoo in Thailand.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
She's adorable. Everyone loves her. She's violent.
Emma Chamberlain
She's so violent.
Amanda
She's constantly getting sprayed with water. She's constantly biting people.
Shane
Yeah.
Emma Chamberlain
And hippos are extremely violent and dangerous.
Amanda
I believe they kill more people than every other animal, which is crazy, because.
Emma Chamberlain
In Fantasia, they made them do, like, ballet. And I was like, that's a lie.
Amanda
Well, they could do ballet, but they can also kill people.
Shane
Have you seen that Black Swan?
Emma Chamberlain
So true.
Shane
Have you seen that video of, like, a boat? Like, like.
Amanda
Yeah.
Shane
Going on a river and there's a hippo chasing them.
Amanda
Dude.
Shane
It's so insane.
Amanda
And you know what's extra terrifying? Hippos can't swim.
Shane
They don't swim.
Amanda
They are. They are jumping off the bottom of the. Like. Yeah, they're on the ground of the. Oh, they just go on the bottom and like, jump bound. They just.
Emma Chamberlain
Which is crazy because they're thick.
Shane
They're so muscularly dense. They're so dense that they just sink to the bottom and can bound across their fast.
Amanda
They're so fast and they are so aggressive.
Emma Chamberlain
What would you do if a hippo was barreling towards you?
Amanda
I die. You're going to die.
Emma Chamberlain
You up immediately.
Amanda
You are going to die. There's. I would feel. I would feel so much more comfortable if I saw a giant great white coming towards me than a hippo. No, a great white. I would believe that. I'm like, it might not attack me. Or you can do the thing where you. If. If I'm good enough.
Emma Chamberlain
You're going to go like this to.
Amanda
I have seen. I'm not going to put my hand. I'm not. I'm going to go. Stop it. I'm not saying I will successfully do this, but I have seen videos of scuba divers. They direct that woman who. I'm saying it's possible to do that. If you try to do that with a hippo, they're gonna go and they're gonna just bite your arm off.
Emma Chamberlain
Sharks are so fast that there's you going like this.
Amanda
Sharks, okay. Sharks are fast, but most often they're just swimming.
Emma Chamberlain
They just swim? Yeah.
Amanda
If it was like, sharks are just robots.
Shane
I feel like those videos, they're like kind of coming at them slowly, though, where it's like they're coming at them slowly and then open their mouth. If a great wide is like charging me.
Amanda
Okay, we're not talking over. We're not talking about.
Emma Chamberlain
It's crazy, Shane.
Amanda
A demon situation about natural animal back.
Shane
Okay.
Amanda
Hippos charge at you because they are coming at you. Sharks are usually a lot of shark attacks are just sharks. Just accidentally.
Emma Chamberlain
Here's what I would do. I would roll to the side. I would go down in a squat. I would jump up.
Amanda
I would jump up my hand.
Emma Chamberlain
I would get on the back of the hippo because its mouth is the most dangerous part. And I would ride it until I got to a ship to safety.
Shane
It'd be like Legolas in Lord of the Rings clambering onto the horse from underneath.
Emma Chamberlain
I just Watched all the Lord of the Rings.
Shane
So did I.
Emma Chamberlain
Not extended version, though, because I didn't have the time.
Amanda
Yeah. You know what I do? The. The would open its mouth, and you'd see me there in the middle of its mouth, holding the tongue.
Emma Chamberlain
Hold on.
Shane
I'm funny.
Amanda
Like Captain Hook with the cock. And I was like, oh, no nightmare for you dying. I don't. I don't have. I don't have any interest in being around wild hippos. No. There's not many animals that I'm like, I don't want to go see them. Most animals I would love to go see. Like, for instance, I really want to go see wild gorillas. I'd love to hike up and be around gorillas. Like chimps, chimp, chimpanzees. No, thank you.
Emma Chamberlain
Gorillas are dangerous, too.
Amanda
Gorillas are nowhere near as dangerous as chimpanzees.
Shane
Yeah, I just love.
Amanda
Nowhere near as dangerous.
Shane
I just want to hang out with a gorilla.
Amanda
A gorilla will, like, if you just respect them, they're like, hey, man, you can hang out.
Emma Chamberlain
So what happened when Harambe got shot?
Amanda
Well, a kid jumped into their.
Emma Chamberlain
So he was disrespected.
Amanda
I think that's an unfortunate situation.
Shane
I think there's still speculation on whether or not Harambe had intent to hurt, because some people are like, it seemed like he was dragging the child out of the water, almost like to safety. But everyone was just so scared of the idea that Harambe might hurt the child that they had to put him down. But I believe. I don't know, I'm on the side of, like, maybe Harambe wasn't going to. I don't know that the child. The child was in danger, but I don't know that Harambe hadn't put himself there.
Emma Chamberlain
So, yeah, karma's a bitch. All right, we don't have to open.
Amanda
It's gotta. Can I say we don't have to open up the spoon. Can I say this reminds me, like. Cause it is that fucked up thought of, like, well, if you jump into the animal exhibit, you're in their home and they're allowed to be an animal at you. It was a child. I think it's a little different, but it's segue. I have this thought of when it comes to sports. When have you ever seen, like, when someone streaks out into a.
Shane
Yes.
Amanda
And a football player pulls down? I think it's so funny every time, because my thought is, if you go out onto a sports field, the athletes are allowed to do sports at you're ass naked fully all go at you and tackle you or whatever. I think it's so funny every time.
Emma Chamberlain
So funny when streakers get knocked on.
Shane
Just get laid out or like security.
Emma Chamberlain
Like knocked them down. They're like looking at their friends like, yeah. And then security's like, just lays them out.
Amanda
I think sometimes you can tell the security is like, stoked. They're like. They're like, this is my moment. I'm going to make the team. Okay. So mu. Dang adorable baby hippo. Someday nightmare hippo, she's going to. Is she a mini hippo?
Shane
She's a pygmy hippo. Oh, I don't know about.
Amanda
So she's not going to get. So maybe she's going to be cool.
Shane
Might not be a killer hippo. Probably still dangerous.
Emma Chamberlain
She seems pretty cool. Like, she's.
Amanda
I just love all these images of her just biting. You posted one just like, be the violence you want to see in the world. And it's like just screaming and biting a leg. Her name translates to bouncy pork in Thai.
Shane
Bouncy.
Emma Chamberlain
Good Lord.
Amanda
Bouncy pork.
Emma Chamberlain
If I was nicknamed bouncy pork, I would start non on legs too. Okay.
Amanda
Yeah, look.
Shane
No, actually I haven't thought about this until now, but bouncing. Oh, man. No, I was gonna say mudang is kind of like my dog Napkin. Napkin. My dog Napkin is a psycho. He will. If you. If you look at him and if he's close to you and you just look him in the eye for more than like, two seconds, he will just, like, turn his head and just bite it. He'll just be like. And it's always, like, playful. He's not, like, trying to be mean or hurt you, but he just gets this little look in his eye and he'll go completely still and then just lunge at you. It's awesome. It's so, so funny.
Emma Chamberlain
Napkin seems so sweet. Like a sweet name, but he is.
Shane
But he's a little psychopath, but kind of like he gives mudang vibes. He's like a little.
Amanda
He's.
Shane
He's a little rasp with a mudang.
Emma Chamberlain
A bouncy pork.
Shane
Bouncy pork.
Emma Chamberlain
I just don't know how I feel about that.
Shane
I love. I love doing a little pork bouncing on the weekend.
Amanda
Oh, yeah.
Emma Chamberlain
You are a freak. You are a nasty little freak.
Amanda
You know, the weekends for bouncing on pork, you know? And that's. That'.
Emma Chamberlain
God, every time we have you on Trevor, you're more shocking than me, and it's insane.
Shane
Just a Regular guy.
Emma Chamberlain
Motorboating. Regular guy.
Amanda
You motorboats.
Shane
And I'm Borg.
Amanda
Hey, that was one of our best memes of the year.
Emma Chamberlain
I literally was like, yeah, I was having a great time. My sisters, we're on a motorboat.
Shane
Yeah, I'm motorboating this weekend.
Amanda
Motorboating this weekend.
Emma Chamberlain
Good Lord.
Amanda
You said Saturday. Okay. There was another animal this year that I was also not aware of until we talked about it on here. Pesto.
Emma Chamberlain
Pesto the penguin.
Shane
I've not heard of.
Amanda
So Pesto is a little. A baby penguin, I believe. A baby emperor penguin or. Yeah, that was adopted by smaller penguins. Yeah. So he.
Emma Chamberlain
So this is not its birth mom.
Amanda
Yeah. So he's massive, but he's following these other penguins that are small.
Emma Chamberlain
He's a miniature mob Boss baby.
Shane
That's awesome.
Amanda
Massive.
Emma Chamberlain
And I all, like. There wasn't. There weren't a lot of good Pesto memes, but there were great tick tocks. So I like, screenshotted some, and some of the tick tocks had me rolling.
Amanda
They were following my mom at the function because I don't know anyone there, just because he's just awkward. He's just this giant, awkward, bumbling, awesome animal. So cute.
Shane
Does anyone in the room remember Mr. Popper's penguins?
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah.
Shane
Anyone?
Amanda
I didn't see the movie, but there was a movie. There's. I think there's two movies. Oh.
Shane
See, I was a fan of the. Of the novel, but that was, like, my dream as a kid. Like, the idea of someone owning a penguin. As a child, for me, I was like, that would be so awesome to own a penguin and have a penguin.
Amanda
They are.
Emma Chamberlain
You'd have to live on ice, like, you know, in the cold.
Amanda
This is the thing about. This is the thing about birds, though. And it's always shocking. Every kind of bird, they stink like nothing else.
Emma Chamberlain
Wait, really?
Amanda
Birds stink so bad?
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
I love birds. But when you go to a zoo or if you're just around any. Any bird, it's always amazing. The flamingo. The flamingo exhibit, you can smell it a mile away. Why? And penguins are the same way.
Emma Chamberlain
Why is that?
Amanda
They're just stinky.
Shane
When I was in high school, just stinky.
Amanda
I don't know what to tell you.
Shane
I skipped school one day to go to the Boise Zoo, and I was going into the penguin exhibit, and there was. I almost got attacked by a goose. There was a very threatening goose.
Emma Chamberlain
That makes sense.
Shane
There are a lot of geese in Idaho. But this particular one was literally. He was, like, standing on the little corner above the penguin exhibit. And he had his wings out and he was just staring me down and hissing at me. And I was like trying to walk in. He's right above the door and I was just like having a face off with this goose and. Yeah, hissing at me. I ended up just having to bolt forward to the door and get inside.
Emma Chamberlain
They will take you down.
Shane
I. I hate geese. Terrifying.
Amanda
So aggressive.
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah, swans are kind of, you know, aggressive.
Amanda
Swans and geese, they're assholes. Don't mess with them.
Emma Chamberlain
Do you guys remember when planet Earth came out? Like back in the day, like planet Earth, and they did the whole penguin segment and they had, they showed like a time lapse of all the penguins huddling up for warmth. And when they let out, it let out all this heat. Penguins are amazing.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
Have you ever seen, like, how dense their feathers are? Yeah, because it's like that. You think it's their skin, but no, it's just dense feathers. Antarctica is an absolute hellscape though, because they show the penguins all running from seals and hunting them. And then it's like, it's like, oh, you thought it ended there. And then they saw the seals running. Running away from. Yeah. Polar bears or something. I'm like, oh, my God.
Emma Chamberlain
And penguins, it's hard for them to run.
Amanda
They can't.
Emma Chamberlain
I saw the Penguin on hbo, Max. Colin Farrell had a hard time running.
Shane
Well, have you seen Happy Feet? There are some terrifying scenes in that film. And surfs up as well.
Amanda
Several of them get eaten by seals.
Emma Chamberlain
Well, yeah, I mean, their arms aren't giving them a lot of leverage.
Amanda
No, they're not. Anyways, that's why the ones in Mary Poppins, they got to stay there.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
So Mary Poppins, penguins.
Shane
Look, you can't get caught by the seals, Vic. I'm gonna give you what you deserve. You deserve the biggest fish in the Arctic.
Emma Chamberlain
He's doing the Penguin. You never saw the Penguin on hbo.
Shane
Max never saw the Penguin. Such a good show. It's been out for like two months.
Amanda
Okay, man.
Shane
You never saw it.
Emma Chamberlain
It's because it's such a good show.
Shane
No spoilers. He becomes the penguin.
Emma Chamberlain
He is. He's the Penguin.
Amanda
I couldn't think of a character from Batman that I was less interested in. Wow. Look, Are you joking? It's like you got. You got Mr. Freeze, you got Poison Ivy, you got the Joker. It's like, oh, and here's a guy.
Emma Chamberlain
No.
Shane
Okay, guys, he's got a sick ass umbrella.
Emma Chamberlain
We're talking about the Batman. The Penguin from the Batman Okay. It was sick. And he's. He's twisted and wild and, and, you know, sometimes cute. Like in the tiniest second, like quick second, you're like. And then you're like, no.
Shane
It's crazy how like, you, you're so close to rooting for him. You, like so badly want to root for him, then he is just like a terrible person.
Emma Chamberlain
And then you're like, damn, I can't root for you.
Shane
He's the penguin. I. I thought it was crazy. When Raven and I finished it, we watched like the end, like kind of after where some of the actors were talking about it, seeing, to seeing Colin Farrell then he's got like his Ireland headband, his hair all pushed up.
Emma Chamberlain
It's a good time, yo.
Shane
Yeah. Playing the penguin, it was such a crazy. And it's like, it goes from it so fast. I'm like, it's insane that you played that character.
Emma Chamberlain
It's.
Amanda
He's a great actor. So this was probably the first big meme of the year. And I, I cannot believe this happened this year. I'm wondering if I made a mistake. And this was last year.
Emma Chamberlain
It feels like a year.
Amanda
Like, this feels like it was so long ago, but. Willy's Chocolate experience.
Shane
Good God.
Emma Chamberlain
In Glasgow.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
Yeah. So this was in Scotland and this was a full on scam where they were like, guys were putting on this huge cool experience where you're going to go to. To basically Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. And it's. And they advertised and it was like expensive tickets.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
Well bought tons. And they show up and it is basically an empty, empty, like factory room with just a few decorations. A couple actors.
Emma Chamberlain
A couple actors who.
Amanda
The actors were the heroes.
Emma Chamberlain
I was like, they. I don't think they knew how much of a scam it was.
Amanda
Actors did everything they could to make it worth it. And in fact, some of the performances I saw, I was like, you know what? I would have bought a ticket just to support them because. But the best was. And they didn't shy away, you know, because a lot of people would have shown up and been like, I'm out of here.
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah.
Amanda
But the famous photo was the lady who is the Oompa Loompa Loompa. That photo is just legendary. She's not hiding away. She's like, I'm here. I'm staying with it.
Emma Chamberlain
And I just found some different versions of her.
Amanda
That famous, that famous artwork.
Shane
Oh, my God.
Emma Chamberlain
Her with the Breaking Bad just standing.
Shane
With Mr. White Dude.
Amanda
Also the fucking like, like, what's that it's the unknown, and it's like the person just the mask just, like, coming out, like, being all crazy and, like, you hear a kid, like, start to cry.
Shane
I know.
Amanda
And I'm like, the unknown's not even. What is that? What is that? I don't know.
Emma Chamberlain
Nobody knows what that is. Like, Veruca Salt wasn't there. No one was there.
Amanda
I don't think it wasn't initially Willy Wonka because it was Willy's Chocolate Experience, but it was completely a fraud. They tried to, like, they sue. I think it. I think it culminated in a lawsuit of some sort, but I don't know much about that. I just know that it happened, and that that is probably my favorite meme of the year. It was just stellar. Yeah, it was so funny. It was definitely sad that people got scammed out of money, but it wasn't enough money that I'm like, okay, there were actual, like, you know, casualties here. It was just stupid.
Emma Chamberlain
I know.
Shane
I feel bad.
Amanda
I feel bad for the kids.
Emma Chamberlain
What was the description on it? Like, how. Why did people spend so much money? Like, what did they offer them? Like, a chocolate fountain that they could swim in?
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
Like, probably a lot more. This has happened a lot. You know, this all comes back to the OG was Dash Con, which you may or may not know about, because at Smosh Live, it might be the one we talk about.
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah. Recording this before, I don't know. But I do know about Fyre Festival.
Amanda
Yeah. Similar types of things happen all the time.
Shane
I feel bad because it seems like of all the people that, like, deserve to turn their 15 minutes of fame into something, it should have been the Oompa Loompa girl. And it seems like she, like, didn't get that opportunity. Like, I wish she would have, like, been able to do something, and we'd be, you know, we're. We would still be keeping up with Oompa Loompa girl.
Emma Chamberlain
I think it's the picture that they caught of her. I think if she looked a little bit more like.
Amanda
Her face is excitement.
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah. But her face is perfect. I think people after the bag just wanted to leave her alone.
Amanda
She. She was there going, this sucks so bad.
Emma Chamberlain
She's like, I'm. I'm probably making. She probably made, like, 300 bucks or something.
Amanda
Yeah. I don't know if she made that much money. I, I, I. I wonder if they made. I wonder if they got paid. I think that was part of the contest.
Emma Chamberlain
Maybe they were promised to swim in the chocolate fountain, but there wasn't one.
Amanda
Also what happened this year, though, was the Detroit Bridgerton Ball, which was the same situation where it was like it was going to be another big party. It was like, oh, for fans of Bridgerton, we're going to do this big. Bridgerton.
Emma Chamberlain
Because they did it in la. My friend was actually one of the pianists.
Amanda
Oh, really?
Emma Chamberlain
She played like the Queen's guard, and she was a pianist. And I went with all my friends and it was sick.
Amanda
Oh, really? I didn't know that you went so good.
Emma Chamberlain
It was at the Biltmore in downtown.
Amanda
Whoa.
Emma Chamberlain
And it was actually sick. But it was. It was sponsored by, like, a very famous vodka, not Smirnoff or something. So it felt like they had a budget. They had a fricking budget. Like you bowed to the Queen. There was a full dance experience, like violinist singers. And I was like, okay, this is pretty sick.
Amanda
That's what people expected. But the Bridgerton Ball, I wonder if, like, the sponsor fell through or something. Cause it was just an empty hotel. Convention center. No. And a bunch of people there just dressed up, excited for that, thinking that was gonna happen. And then they're just sitting around and I'm like, that's such a bummer.
Emma Chamberlain
Wait, that sucks. Because one, they were, like, traveling and they had, like. They had professional dancers and singers, and the costumes were outrageous and the cocktails were so good. That sucks. Cause, like, all those people probably dressed up.
Amanda
Yeah. Oh, they're all. There's the famous image, which we may or may not be able to show of. Just like, you see several women dressed up in, like, really nice gowns, and one's just sitting against the wall, just on her phone, just like. And I'm like, that sucks, man. You were so excited to be such a fan of something and to show up, and it's just nothing.
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah, sucks. Like buying long gloves is a thing, you know?
Amanda
Yeah. Hold on. We have a post here that. That Selena put up. The Detroit Bridgerton Ball was a complete scam. My family and I just left the Detroit Bridgerton Ball. It was absolutely horrendous. There was nowhere to sit all. Although the venue was nice, the decor was sparse and extremely tacky. It wasn't even Bridgerton themed. We spent $400 on tickets. Wait for a complete BS experience? I read that the event company made hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue for this event. We went to the Bridgerton Ball in Chicago two years ago, and it was absolutely beautiful. We were so disappointed. The last two slides are more along the lines of what we were Expecting this event, honestly, was so damaging to the Bridgerton brand. I'm so shocked that this was even allowed. Several people were complaining and upset with the event. Anyone else go to the ball tonight?
Emma Chamberlain
Wait, my ticket was, like, $50, so not 400.
Amanda
This is so. That's probably what they're expecting. Expecting. So. Yeah, that looks nice. Yeah, that looks nice. That looks beautiful. So that's what they were expecting.
Shane
They got like, oh, my God, that is so.
Emma Chamberlain
No, that's a carpet on a wall.
Amanda
They got a carpet on a wall for hundreds of. Dude spent 400.
Emma Chamberlain
The one in LA. They choose. You know how they choose the diamond. I don't know if you guys are Bridgerton lovers like me. They choose the diamond of the year. And my friend has never watched Bridgerton, so she showed up looking like she was, like, a goth witch.
Amanda
Nice.
Emma Chamberlain
With, like, a huge wig. And we were like, damn. And we were like, you look amazing. And she looks so gothy and, like, not Bridgerton themed, but looked incredible. And the fucking queen chose her as the diamond. So she got to go out and they, like, had confetti and she was on this turntable and we were like, what the fuck is happening?
Amanda
That's awesome.
Emma Chamberlain
So for them to spend. First of all, we didn't even spend over $100 a person.
Amanda
It was like 50 bucks.
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah. For them to spend. I know, 400 and get that.
Amanda
That was collectively probably their group, maybe insane to me. No, it's. It's a huge scam. If you're not. You need to deliver what that's worth.
Shane
Can I say something really quick? I've recently just started watching Gossip Girl.
Emma Chamberlain
You've never seen it?
Shane
Never seen it. It's great. It's a lot of fun. That's just Bridgerton. Bridgerton is just gossip.
Amanda
Oh, well, yeah. It's all. It all boils down.
Emma Chamberlain
Author. Because. Isn't it? I've actually. I think I've only seen a couple episodes. No, no. Gossip Girl is like a girl. It's like a secret.
Shane
Yeah.
Emma Chamberlain
Person.
Amanda
It's the Lady Whistledown.
Shane
All they do is have parties. Like, they just have parties all the time because they're rich and that's what they do in Bridgerton. And then there's just all these, like, rich people and they just, you know, are all encompassed.
Amanda
It's kind of like a soap opera basis of, like, drama. Like, the pole is like, the relationships and the. And the secrets and the betrayals formula.
Shane
I will say, classic. Watching TV from that era, it is insane how different it is. Like, the era of binging has made it so easy for people to not really put much in a single episode as far as drama and kind of like drag drama out. There is something insane happening in. In every single episode.
Amanda
Oh, yeah.
Shane
Every single episode has some betrayal, some insane reveal at the end because they're like, we got to get people back next week. You know, we got to get people back on cable shows were like the last crazy.
Amanda
We miss.
Emma Chamberlain

Amanda
My take on it. Cause I Drew Gooden had a good video about how Netflix and other streaming services are like, just trying to draw out your attention how documentary series are like. Like 10 episodes to tell you something that you could have told you in one.
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah.
Amanda
But yeah, back. Back then it was like every episode was a show.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
Like this hour is a full show. It's gonna have. It's gonna have the whole arc, but it's gonna lead you to next episode. But that's why I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Cause every episode out of its mind. And it's every. And the first season is monster of the week. And it moves on from that. But it still has monster of the week week. It's most of the week. And then there's the big bad that they hint to Every episode. And I'm such a good job. That formula.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
So fun.
Emma Chamberlain
They're trying to bring it back. Like, One Tree Hill was that. They're trying to. They're literally rebooting One Tree Hill, which is wild to me.
Amanda
Crazy.
Emma Chamberlain
And, like, the O.C. they brought it back on Netflix. Not like a new one, but the O.C. i don't know if you guys ever watched the O.C. or.
Amanda
I know of. I.
Emma Chamberlain
The Hills. Like, all of those were. I know that's more reality, but those actually had, like, intense, intense things happening. Intense acting, and that's why we were addicted. And now shows are just like, bro.
Amanda
So Courtney's been watching Vanderpump Rules, and she's like, okay, it's reality. She's like, yeah, it's reality, but it's from, like, the first season's, like, 2013. And watching this, I was like, you cannot be this bad of a person nowadays on reality tv. These people are awful. How blatantly awful. Like, people are awful on reality TV all the time. Still not to this degree. Like, she'll, like, explain what someone did. I'm just like. And they're still on the show.
Emma Chamberlain
Restaurants and bars.
Amanda
Yeah. It's like, oh, my God. It's shocking.
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah.
Amanda
So I'm like, there's no way you could do this. I mean, I guess it's still around today. There are still shows, But I couldn't believe it. I was like, this has to be fake, right? I'm like, no, people were. People are really like that?
Emma Chamberlain
Yep.
Amanda
They're still like that. They just have to kind of disguise it a little bit nowadays. Maybe they have, like, reunion. Depends on the show.
Emma Chamberlain
Like, call them out. They know that they have a reunion coming up.
Amanda
Those reunions are unlike any. Because I think about Love is Blind, where they don't call out anyone on anything. And then Vanderpump Rules. Whenever I'm, like, walking by and it's on, they're just, like, going. Walking in on people.
Emma Chamberlain
You know, he's just sitting there.
Amanda
I'm not.
Shane
When I'm sitting there, locked in on the tv.
Amanda
What did Jax do this time?
Shane
After I get my popcorn from the kitchen.
Amanda
Mind boggling. But also, like, we're sitting there going, this. This restaurant's insane. And I realized. I meant to ask you. I was like, I think restaurants are probably just like this.
Emma Chamberlain
Maybe, like, restaurants are soap operas.
Amanda
Insane.
Emma Chamberlain
They are.
Amanda
Every behavior.
Emma Chamberlain
Every day that I worked in a restaurant, something fucked happened. Whether it was like. Like, you could make a reality show easily on Just any restaurant in LA or anywhere. Because there's all these factors, like drunk people, rats, relationships, hookups.
Amanda
Literally, in these episodes, several times someone, like, punches someone else in the face. It's not like, oh, there's a fight. They yelled at you. It's like, no, that guy punched that guy in the face.
Shane
That's awesome.
Amanda
They're cheating on each other. They're saying horrible things. And then there's the reveal that they're in there 30s.
Emma Chamberlain
Yep.
Amanda
It's not like they're like 18 to 20. And it's like, whoa, these kids. This guy is 35 years old.
Emma Chamberlain
I mean, do you remember the Jersey Shore?
Amanda
I mean, no. Oh, my God. See, I don't know if we need to go back to that era of reality television, but.
Emma Chamberlain
No, I don't think so.
Amanda
But going all the way back, I remember I watched the first season of Gossip Girl as it was airing because, like, I was out here. I was. I was auditioning. I was like, I need to watch. I need to keep up with the shows so that I know what I, like, might go out for. I was too young at the time for Gossip Girl, but I remember watching that show and just. It wasn't for me.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
And then I. But I was always curious. I'm like, who is the Gossip Girl? And when someone revealed it to me, I was like, oh, okay, wait, who is it? I'm not.
Shane
Hey, hey, hey.
Amanda
I'm going to spoil it.
Emma Chamberlain
Oh, yeah, you haven't seen it.
Shane
I'm watching.
Amanda
No people who know. Did you watch? Did you watch Gossip Girl?
Emma Chamberlain
Well, don't Google it, because you know, the show, it's old.
Amanda
It surprised me.
Shane
It's insane how shocking out. It's like that show came out in, like, 2009. But, like, they're all in high school. Like, these people are set up as being, like, 17 year olds. And there are plot lines in the show that are like, that's just like, insane. Like, you have. You have a, like a 40 year old Duchess that's hooking up with, like, a 17 year old. And it's just this plot line. There's like this, like, plot where, like, Blake Lively's character has, like, someone like, filmed her, like, having sex without her consent. And I'm like, this is crazy stuff. But then, like, they'll also treat some things in the weirdest way where it's like, they're like, you can't have sex on the first date. And I'm like, what? Like, this is, like, insane.
Amanda
It was. It's all over the place back then. Our next meme. I think this was the biggest one here at the office.
Emma Chamberlain
I agree.
Amanda
This was. This was the theme here for months. It's Brat Summer.
Emma Chamberlain
Brad Summer.
Amanda
Brat Summer everywhere.
Emma Chamberlain
Brad Summer, baby.
Amanda
What a. What a.
Emma Chamberlain
It literally became. It should be in the dictionary. Like, that's so Brat. Like, brat.
Amanda
There's a man. I've been obsessed a little bit, just cause I was listening to a lot of music this year of like, what'll win album of the year. And there's a real argument to make that, I think. I do think Chapel Roan's album is the most significant this year. But Charli XCX's album more so the like. But is it the album or is it just like the whole campaign of it? The vibe of it impacted this year. Oh, it's great.
Emma Chamberlain
But then also the vibe, it just.
Amanda
It was just everywhere.
Emma Chamberlain
But I did love Chapel Rounds.
Amanda
It was all. It was a lot of good stuff this year. Really good shit. This.
Emma Chamberlain
Listen to the Brat album. I don't feel like you're into it.
Amanda
What?
Shane
No, I've listened to the album. I don't want to get too into my feelings about.
Amanda
Whoa.
Emma Chamberlain
Okay.
Amanda
Whoa.
Shane
I just don't want people to be mad at me.
Emma Chamberlain
I think Brat of you.
Amanda
Yeah. What the fuck do you have against Brad?
Shane
Just not super into it. I don't know. Like, as far as far as the album goes, I'm like, this is fine, you know, like, this is music that I, like, enjoy listening to, but I'm not like, oh, my God, this is phenomenal stuff. Like, everything is brat.
Amanda
I think Brat kind of like. I think the music from that album, it's like, you have to be in the right place. Like, it's party music.
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah.
Amanda
It's. It's good for when I'm working out or something, but it's not like, I don't know, it's got. You got to be in the right place, right time.
Shane
Yeah. I also think that, like, the genre of memes that I consume more regularly is more of like, probably Gen Alpha and like, gamer type memes, I think, because, like, that's my whole, like, Twitter feed is like, I've curated it. That's the kind of people that I follow, and that's like the kind of people that, like, I don't know, I talk to. Like, that's what my friends and I are doing. So. Yeah. Something like Brat Summer. I'm like, okay. Like, that's fine. That's. That's a fun one. Not just Just not for me.
Emma Chamberlain
That's a fun one.
Amanda
Yeah. I don't think I saw too many memes of it. What?
Emma Chamberlain
There was so many Brat Summer.
Amanda
It was more just like the. Well, what did occur that I saw was, like, calling Kamala Harris brat.
Emma Chamberlain
Once she said that Kamala Harris was brat. The political brat memes.
Amanda
I have to go to the emergency room. Is this real? Yes.
Shane
In brat.
Amanda
In brat, dude. Okay, so I pitched this video, and I need to pitch it to Emily and Bailey because I think it'd be really fun where we all have just. We get a bunch of paints, right? Bunch of different colors, basic colors of paint, and then we are given a very specific color, and we all have to try to mix paints together and see who can most accurately.
Emma Chamberlain
Oh, yeah.
Amanda
Wow. And I think brat green would be a really fun one because it's a very specific. I love that type of green because a smosh meme was Courtney telling me, like, if you don't. If you don't correctly make brat green, we're done, or something like that. I forget what she said to me.
Emma Chamberlain
So you have to do it.
Amanda
So I have to do it. Okay. Before and after brat and after. It's the Shrek thing. That's great. It became of, like, who is brat and who is not.
Emma Chamberlain
Oh, my God. Anyone wearing the brat colors back in the day was memed. It was like, that's so brat.
Amanda
And I love this when someone tries to talk to me while I'm overstimulated, and she just has a sign that just says, I'm on vocal rest. That's awesome.
Emma Chamberlain
She looks amazing.
Amanda
I love Charlie xcx. She's so funny. This other meme I was not aware of until fans were saying that it was me, that this was who I am. Are you aware of this?
Shane
The chill guy?
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah, Chill guy.
Amanda
Chill guy. Had you seen chill Guy?
Emma Chamberlain
I think I have. And then I saw you put it on there, and I was like, it does kind of look like chill.
Amanda
So it's artwork by Philip Banks. I posted it on Twitter, and it then became like, a meme on TikTok and stuff. But it's just a drawing of a chill guy. Chill Guy.
Emma Chamberlain
It kind of reminds me of that show. What was that? Or, like, the book?
Amanda
I. I feel like he looks like Brian from Family Guy.
Emma Chamberlain
Oh, Brian from Family Guy.
Amanda
But it's. It's its own unique drawing, but I get it. It's kind of my vibe. I dress like that.
Emma Chamberlain
Are you like Brian and Family Guy?
Amanda
I'm not like Brian I'm like this guy. I'm like, chill guy. I'm just like chill guy.
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah, if you're, if you're Brian.
Amanda
I'm not Brian.
Emma Chamberlain
I'm Stewie and Family Guy.
Amanda
How are you Stewie from Family? Stewie Griffin? How are you like Stewie? Brian.
Emma Chamberlain
Brian.
Amanda
Brian.
Shane
Louis, I need Family Guy different Family Guy impressions for the rest of the video.
Amanda
Have you seen, have you seen Spencer's video? Yeah, dude, we, Spencer and I have that video where we, where we're like talking and then there's a Family Guy clip below us and then we just start doing it verbatim and we rehearsed that a lot. I listened to that. It's the Godfather clip.
Emma Chamberlain
Wow.
Amanda
I did not care for the Godfather there. You what?
Emma Chamberlain
Oh, good.
Shane
When, when the Peter Griffin skin came out on Fortnite, I did, I did random duos on Fortnite and I talked like Peter Griffin.
Emma Chamberlain
That's really good.
Shane
Yeah, I did. I literally just went into like random random duos and I was just talking like Peter Griffin as the Peter Griffin skin to like probably like 13 year old kids. They thought it was hilarious.
Amanda
Oh, yeah.
Emma Chamberlain
And it is.
Amanda
It's very funny.
Emma Chamberlain
I think it's hilarious. I'm laughing.
Amanda
We agree that it's incredible.
Shane
Yeah. Thank you. Chill Guy was unfortunate because I think it like had potential to be like, good, like, and it was good when it first started, but it so immediately became like, it got like kind of deep fried almost. It like, it became like a weird, like kind of grifter meme where people like, oh, we got to make like a chill guy like, like, like token, like, like meme coin, you know, like, oh, here's my chill guy NFTs. And it's like it got latched onto by that group of people.
Amanda
You know, I almost think. Think another opinion is I almost think this year wasn't a strong meme year for me because it feels like corporations are now waiting for the memes to happen and they immediately take them. So they become like kind of capitalized on too quickly nowadays. Whereas back in the day it was like it was only for random people. Whereas now it's like the second they're out there, the Starbucks TikTok account is like, and, oh, we're Chill Guy. And it's like, oh, no, they last a week. I still, it ages me. But I'm like, remember when Numa Numa was the biggest meme for like two years for so long? Well, of course you don't, but that's the thing. But Nowadays, it's like a meme will happen. And if you are a week behind, they're like, oh, that. That's dead. Yeah, like that things are moving too.
Emma Chamberlain
Fast because brands are on social media and they are like, I want to get.
Amanda
They're just looking for it.
Emma Chamberlain
And so they kill it.
Amanda
It.
Emma Chamberlain
They kill it before it like could even have time to breathe.
Shane
I think that's why I love like Gen Alpha humor because so much of it is just completely nonsensical. Like, it doesn't, like, you can't even explain it. It's just like a word that someone will say and it's like, it's just a funny word and everyone thinks it's funny.
Emma Chamberlain
Alpha is before gen. Alpha is after Gen Z. After Gen Z.
Amanda
So it's younger.
Emma Chamberlain
Younger than Gen Z.
Shane
And it's like you can't, as a corporation, you can't just slap like a random word on something because it's like not that relatable because it's like, well, what does it mean? Like, not everyone.
Amanda
I don't know, man. You're going to drive past a Wendy's and see a sign that says, like, our nuggets are skibidy. I feel like they're Wendy.
Shane
Wendy's chili only in Ohio. Like, like that doesn't appeal to the general population as. As much I think is like, oh, it's a chill guy.
Amanda
Yeah, okay.
Emma Chamberlain
The world coming to, you know.
Amanda
Yeah.
Shane
Well, dude, imagine. Imagine if chill guy got a low taper fade.
Amanda
You don't go on. Hey, hey.
Shane
I feel like. I feel like. I feel like Marty McFly. Like, you don't. You're not ready for that yet. But your kids are gonna love it.
Emma Chamberlain
That's so you, Trevor, though. That is literally you. You just described who you are as a vibe.
Amanda
Okay, so we'll move on to some smosh memes that were. You found this one.
Emma Chamberlain
Okay.
Amanda
No, yeah. Okay, Makes sense.
Emma Chamberlain
Oh yeah. I thought I found a Krungle meme and it's just us doing the. The act.
Amanda
I love how we. We did that on Reddit stories before that aired.
Emma Chamberlain
That wasn't.
Shane
This is me doing the act.
Emma Chamberlain
That was. Yeah, this is the act, Trevor.
Shane
Dude.
Amanda
Okay, dude, don't give us the profile shot of it.
Shane
Yeah, it's gotta be head on.
Emma Chamberlain
Literally head on. We did it on Reddit stories because that was the end of the shoot week. That was the craziest gas leak Reddit story.
Amanda
I don't know if they cut that part or not, but I. I'm not.
Emma Chamberlain
Sure that they did.
Amanda
Yeah. But anyways, anyway, we had been rehearsing that for a long time because we were like, this is how we're going.
Shane
To get people to break long.
Emma Chamberlain
I found that I also, I will say I put all of my favorite Tommy specials. So Tommy Bo, I think is the God of memes here.
Amanda
Really?
Emma Chamberlain
Smosh. I think he makes some of the.
Amanda
Funniest memes he does make.
Emma Chamberlain
And I put some of my favorites on there.
Amanda
So I found one though. I. This one was. Someone made this earlier this year. I found it on a Reddit post by wonderful, wonderful painter 14. I don't know if they're the original poster of it. There was this thing going around and they made it look like a real article where it's she's a lesbian, he's he's gay. And their 33 year marriage will change your perception of love. And this actually made the rounds to where people believed it was real.
Emma Chamberlain
People believe that I'm married to anybody, but my actual people are like, yeah, her husband's a front. The Belarusian model. I was like, the man is not a Belarusian model from Belarus.
Amanda
But no one, no, he's a prince.
Emma Chamberlain
No one's like, yeah, okay, she's married to H is fine. But no, she's really married to Tommy or Angela.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
As far as memes that Tommy made though, the big one was just you and Angela being like weird creatures. This is maybe the best meme of so.
Shane
Oh my God.
Emma Chamberlain
Oh, creation.
Amanda
Insane. It's fully insane.
Shane
Disgusting.
Amanda
It's really disgusting. There was also this one.
Shane
Jesus Christ.
Amanda
Angela Amanda.
Emma Chamberlain
And I'm this big creature and Angela and Chance are like my little babies.
Amanda
I love when my wife plays crazy characters. And aan k that's Carde next to.
Emma Chamberlain
Me and I crazy. I look like a potato with.
Amanda
That's from Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Oh my God.
Emma Chamberlain
That's because. That's why. That's why I laugh so hard at his muse. Cuz I'm like, he. He knows me so well. And then like goes a step further and it's so good.
Amanda
There was also this one Tommy watching Chosen Assumptions before they had him a real person.
Emma Chamberlain
And it's the white dog that looks like so bad.
Amanda
Speaking of chosens A I would this isn't quite meme territory, but it was just a cool thing is in October I was shocked at how many people dressed as the Chosen.
Emma Chamberlain
So many people.
Amanda
I saw dozens of posts.
Emma Chamberlain
I also saw the Chosen with Sarah Christ duos.
Amanda
Really?
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah. Sarah Christ duo.
Amanda
So Cool. The problem is if you're Sarah Christ, people are gonna think it's now Agatha all along.
Emma Chamberlain
Don't. Don't. Don't say that.
Amanda
Don't you dare say that they ripped you off.
Emma Chamberlain
Don't you dare say that I freaking.
Amanda
Like, ripped you off.
Shane
I don't know. I don't know how my memes do on. On who memed it. Like, I don't. I don't scroll for my part or anything. I don't know how they do because I feel like mine are generally pretty different than other people's. Like, I don't know, maybe like, the formats are different. I feel like on the most recent one, I sent it in and I was like, I don't know if this is going to land with everyone.
Amanda
My favorite is still. It's an old one from one of the OG who memed it where you. It was like, when Courtney freaking Miller something. You do the good thing. You do the thing where you, like, make the meme messed up on purpose, where you repeat the sentence a little bit.
Shane
When Courtney freaking Miller is sus or something like that. It was the buff among us with, like, the penis almost out.
Amanda
So good.
Shane
Yeah, that was a good.
Emma Chamberlain
We'll do a Trevor special.
Shane
Yeah.
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah.
Shane
Okay. I look forward to that.
Amanda
Okay, these are some other ones that Amanda found. Ian and Anthony look great here. It's the two different snack packs, but one just has. Has the. The like lines in it. Anthony's tattoos make the rounds on. On the Internet sometimes people. It's a topic. It's very fun. I love this one. Was this from this year? There are two types of gays.
Emma Chamberlain
I thought it was.
Amanda
I don't. God.
Emma Chamberlain
Was it not if not.
Amanda
If not. It's a good one to talk about. Such a good one. It's so great. It's Chance's tweet where he's like, I woke up in this house and he had this is genuine posts.
Emma Chamberlain
Genuine.
Amanda
And then there's the one where Tommy post would just be like, I peed blood this morning.
Emma Chamberlain
And the pictures are Tommy like, this close up and Chance with, like, his shirt off. And he's just like, I woke up in this house.
Shane
Oh, my God.
Amanda
A meme that I've been seeing. See, I would argue it's either Tommy or Spencer that I would say are the king of the memes this year.
Emma Chamberlain
Okay.
Amanda
Because. Or Spencer. Because Spencer. Well, I'm also saying being the focal point of memes as well.
Shane
I think I only made one this year. I literally think. Think I And it was just pumping it.
Emma Chamberlain
Okay.
Amanda
You're talking about making memes. I'm talking about being the foc. And Spencer has. Did somebody say meatloaf? Oh, yeah, that might be. That might be the phrase of the year. Yeah.
Emma Chamberlain
I can't stand, though, that people think they don't know who Fred Durst is.
Amanda
They. Fred Darts is more famous than Fred Durst right now.
Shane
Yeah. How do you not You. As soon as you hear Fred Dart's voice, it's like, oh, I immediately know who that is.
Emma Chamberlain
Some people don't know who fre.
Amanda
The funniest was people. Some people posted they dressed up as Fred Darts for Halloween. I was like, no, you're Fred Durst.
Emma Chamberlain
You're literally. I did it all for the nookie Fred Durst for Halloween.
Amanda
Just so you know, you are just Fred Durst. Like, yo, I love Smosh, dude. But also, Spencer as the gentleman this year was just off his rocker. People have been talking about how the top hat is like the mask for Spencer. He becomes a completely person. And his top hat, the green goblin mask. Someone made this meme. Spencer gentleman's top hat. It's true. He puts it on and he is a different person.
Shane
It's insane. Like, I don't know what it is about, like, that format that just like, for whatever reason, everybody who has a top hat on, Spencer and to the, like, nth degree, but everyone's just so much more insane.
Amanda
Like, I feel like some of the.
Shane
Craziest clips and most, like, out of pocket things that, like, we've said this year has been just from gentleman's videos.
Amanda
It's. It's where atrocious. It's like, we put it on. It's like, oh, we have permission.
Shane
Yeah.
Emma Chamberlain
You have multiple wives and all of them are missing.
Amanda
Talking about, like, crazy about breastfeeding and all sorts of horrible.
Shane
So feeding our wives.
Amanda
Spencer says things that I'm like, we shouldn't be able to say that. No, we shouldn't.
Emma Chamberlain
But we're gonna say it because he reads like Frankenstein.
Amanda
Like, when, like, some of those first ones came out, he had been reading literally Frankenstein and other, like, old or Dracula.
Emma Chamberlain
Oh, Dracula. Dracula.
Amanda
He read Frankenstein. And he was also reading Dracula, which has all this, like, old way of speaking. And so he's using it so good. Be like gay little creatures too. Like, just insane shit that he's saying.
Emma Chamberlain
It's all in jest. It's fun.
Amanda
Oh, yeah, It's. It's all great. And then our final meme here, this was all thanks To Courtney. Haunted.
Shane
Oh, yeah.
Amanda
Courtney drew.
Emma Chamberlain
You know what it looks like.
Amanda
We know what it looks. Looks like.
Emma Chamberlain
Sure.
Amanda
Yeah. Someone even fully photoshopped it.
Shane
Oh my God.
Amanda
There was a TikTok. I don't have it here. Someone. Someone post a TikTok that they spent time painting, like recreating it as a full on canvas painting. And it looks really good. I was shocked that someone put that much effort into it.
Emma Chamberlain
Did you buy it? Was it for sale?
Amanda
I'm going to buy it.
Emma Chamberlain
And you should put it right next to the mirror when you say I funny, I funny. You look at it going like, I.
Shane
Smart, funny, I shame.
Amanda
I sexy.
Emma Chamberlain
That picture like your wife is.
Amanda
Oh, Brittany. Brittany. So. Well, Brittany did the full photoshop.
Shane
Oh my God.
Amanda
Awful.
Emma Chamberlain
It is. That's why it taunts me.
Amanda
That's why it looks terrible. Terrifying.
Emma Chamberlain
It's haunting.
Shane
Yeah. No, that's absurd.
Emma Chamberlain
Wow.
Amanda
Yeah. What a year, man.
Emma Chamberlain
Memes of 2024.
Amanda
This is the last December of the year.
Shane
I gotta look and see because I wrote down this is.
Amanda
Tell me I'm wrong.
Emma Chamberlain
Wait, are you.
Amanda
Tell me I'm wrong.
Emma Chamberlain
Are.
Amanda
No, tell me I'm wrong.
Emma Chamberlain
December 31st would be the last December of the year.
Amanda
December of the year. Okay, sorry, I meant to say the last Monday of the year, but.
Emma Chamberlain
Sure you did.
Amanda
But it is also technically the last December of the year. Okay, prove me wrong. Is there another one coming up?
Emma Chamberlain
Don't.
Amanda
Is there another one coming up? Do that.
Shane
Yeah. Good shift. You shifted that. That was good.
Amanda
Next month we're going to talk about our predictions in 2025. I. I'm gonna bring this up here now, before the end of the year. So we had a bunch of our predictions for the year. Right? And a bunch came true. Right?
Emma Chamberlain
Yeah.
Amanda
We'll kind of go up, we'll talk about this again. Something I did not tell you and Selena. There was one that came true of my predictions.
Emma Chamberlain
What?
Amanda
That I didn't tell you. Cause it happened a while ago.
Emma Chamberlain
Guys, I'm looking at it right now. What?
Amanda
So you see that top one there? I shook Markiplier's hand this year.
Emma Chamberlain
Wait, I knew that.
Amanda
You knew that? When did I tell you that?
Emma Chamberlain
You did a Vidcon.
Shane
No, when was it?
Amanda
I never shook Markiplier's hand at Vidcon.
Emma Chamberlain
Wait, when? Where was it?
Amanda
I was hanging out with some friends who are YouTubers. I was about to leave, right? So I'm like, okay, I gotta head out. And as I'm leaving, Markiplier walks in the room and I was Like, I was like, oh, hey. He's, like, talking to them. I was like, hey, how's it going, man? I, like, reach out my hand and he goes. He goes, oh, we've met before, right? And I go, no, we literally haven't. And then I shake his hand. And I was like, he didn't realize the significance that I had realized how power was.
Emma Chamberlain
When I shook his hand, I was.
Amanda
Just like, hey, man. Yeah, it's good to see you. Like, whatever, blah, blah, blah. And then I got. And I was just like.
Emma Chamberlain
I'm not washing this hand for weeks.
Amanda
I thought it was so funny because it was such a casual, just random interaction. And normally, you know, we meet YouTubers all the time. Normally it would have just been like, oh, cool. But I was like, oh, my gosh. I made that prediction and it happened.
Shane
That's awesome.
Emma Chamberlain
Holy shit.
Shane
That's really big.
Amanda
Yeah.
Emma Chamberlain
We still need to get on Good Morning America.
Amanda
We got on Good Morning America. What are you talking about?
Emma Chamberlain
Oh, my God.
Amanda
Yeah, the kid got struck by lightning.
Emma Chamberlain
We need to cross these things off.
Amanda
Yeah.
Emma Chamberlain
We must do this.
Amanda
Well, in a couple weeks, we're going to recap this, and then we're going to make our predictions for 2025. So we'll. We'll recap it then. I just wanted to bring this up before the year ends because that's fucking awesome.
Shane
I make a prediction.
Amanda
Sure.
Shane
Is that allowed? You don't have to put it on the list.
Amanda
Make a prediction because it's still 2024. So make a prediction for 2025.
Shane
We are going to play Fortnite with Ninja on Smosh Games.
Amanda
Oh, my God, dude.
Shane
Imagine how sick that would be. Tyler. Dude, imagine if Ninja got a low taper fade.
Amanda
Okay. Okay. I want to know. Let us know in the comments if you want to see that. I don't know what people.
Shane
I don't care.
Amanda
I have not. I have not kept up on Nin in years. So I don't know what people's opinions of him are same.
Shane
I think he's just pretty.
Amanda
Only if the fans want to see it.
Shane
Tyler Blevin, I think he's just. I think he literally just still plays Fortnite. I think that's pretty much the extent of what he does. I think people are pretty neutral on Ninja.
Amanda
Are they neutral on Ninja?
Shane
I think he's still just a cringe, like, nerdy Fortnite player. Ninja. If you're watching this, you're awesome.
Amanda
Ninja loves Smoshmouth. So, yeah, absolutely.
Shane
You imagine it's out there but man.
Amanda
But yeah, it happened so pretty sick. Pretty cool, right, guys?
Emma Chamberlain
That was really cool.
Amanda
What a year, man. I will say, as far as Smosh goes, really fun. Awesome year.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
Did some really cool. Such a good year was Smosh's like, arguably, as far as just how we did it was like our best year. Friggin Reddit Stories was the number nine podcast on Spotify.
Shane
Crazy.
Emma Chamberlain
Insane.
Amanda
Yeah.
Emma Chamberlain
We all got our Spotify reaction. And that was so. I got to be next to Ian when he discovered that and he was so proud.
Amanda
It was crazy.
Emma Chamberlain
That is so, so cool.
Amanda
I cannot believe it.
Emma Chamberlain
Cause I always thought that people were watching it on YouTube because people are.
Amanda
That's what's also.
Emma Chamberlain
But then they're listening to it on Spotify.
Amanda
I would argue it's like, we don't think of it as our podcast. We record it as a YouTube show. It's also funny because, you know, whereas all the other podcasts on the top 10, it's like, oh, that's what they do. This podcast is their focus.
Emma Chamberlain
That's what they do.
Amanda
Whereas Reddit Stories is one of the dozens of shows we do when we're filming it. We're filming a couple later today, right? Like we're filming other things. We hop in there, we do it. It's very casual for us.
Emma Chamberlain
So it's not our number one.
Amanda
We're doing big is so interesting.
Shane
I'll be honest. Didn't even know that it was on Spotify as a podcast until.
Emma Chamberlain
It's okay, Trevor.
Amanda
Number nine in the U.S. no idea.
Shane
I. Literally everyone was like, who's number nine on podcast? And I was like, they. You guys, we put it on. On Spotify.
Emma Chamberlain
I know. No, I.
Amanda
That's great.
Shane
I hope people listen to it because, you know, that I might not look stupid. You know, people want to know that.
Amanda
It'S especially funny when you, like, view all. If you put all 10 of those hosts together, it is such a funny group.
Emma Chamberlain
Wait, it was crime junkie.
Amanda
Crime junkies. Call her Daddy. It's Joe Rogan, Tucker Carlson. I'm like, this is.
Emma Chamberlain
Is.
Amanda
This is a strange collection of people.
Shane
You and the whole of the Smosh cast just like, group photo, everyone.
Emma Chamberlain
Am I the.
Amanda
I was like. I was like, what if they invited all 10 for. For a photo shoot? I was like, so weird.
Emma Chamberlain
That would be.
Shane
Oh, my God. Just Shane with Tucker Carlson. Hey, Joe Rogan.
Emma Chamberlain
And call her Daddy.
Shane
Oh my God.
Amanda
The Overlord.
Shane
Holy shit.
Amanda
It was so. It's such a funny list. It's hilarious.
Emma Chamberlain
Thanks for coming. On Trevor.
Amanda
Yeah. Thank you for having me being here. And thank you. Thank you to everyone in this room for all the work we're doing. This is really cool. It's such a. So much fun.
Emma Chamberlain
It's so much fun to get to do this. And it isn't just Shane and I. It takes like a whole team.
Amanda
Yeah.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda
Shout out to Selena. Selena's been really producing all of this. This editing, like, looking through the edits. Unbelievable thumbnails. I mean, it's been all Selena for these past couple months, and it has been really awesome.
Emma Chamberlain
She's the best.
Amanda
And when I make. When I make little oopsies, she's there to fix it for us. I will say the oopsie is not that big of a deal.
Emma Chamberlain
It's really not.
Amanda
It's really. It's. It's. I don't want to say it. We'll talk about it eventually.
Shane
What was that?
Emma Chamberlain
We'll talk about it.
Amanda
I'm telling you, it's something so dumb. And when we.
Emma Chamberlain
It's so dumb.
Amanda
When we get to the episode, when we actually upload. Upload this episode, you'll be like, oh, okay.
Emma Chamberlain
It's not a big deal at all.
Amanda
But I promise you, you're going to be let down.
Emma Chamberlain
Truly.
Shane
Well, I'm going to get to know. You're going to tell me as soon as the camera stops rolling.
Amanda
Tell you afterwards. And you're like, oh, okay.
Shane
Yeah. Yeah, okay.
Amanda
All right. Anyways, thank you guys for watching all of this year. We love. You guys are the best. We appreciate you for watching this show and we'll see you next year year for more of this.
Emma Chamberlain
We'll see you next year. This is the last December.
Amanda
The last December of 2024.
Emma Chamberlain
2024.
Amanda
Don't say that.
Emma Chamberlain
Happy last December.
