Shane
Hi, welcome to Smosh Mouth. I'm Shane.
Amanda Leehan
Hi, I'm Amanda Leehan. Canto Full full title. And here's Spencer, our favorite guy.
Shane
Whoa, whoa.
Spencer
Favorite guy.
Shane
That's.
Amanda Leehan
I'm changing it up. I'm changing up my intro. You are.
Shane
You are changing it up.
Spencer
What do you usually say, special guest?
Shane
We were saying that for, like.
Amanda Leehan
Oh, lame.
Shane
100 episodes.
Amanda Leehan
I know.
Spencer
What episode number is this?
Shane
100? Is it 103?
Amanda Leehan
Wait, we're not on 100 yet.
Shane
We're not at 100 yet.
Amanda Leehan
Remember?
Shane
I completely forgot.
Amanda Leehan
We have something special plan.
Shane
Completely forgot. Someone did point out. Someone did point out. We are now past the amount of episodes we had on the original Smosh cast.
Spencer
Oh, yeah.
Shane
That.
Spencer
They never had me on.
Amanda Leehan
Jesus.
Spencer
They never had me on.
Shane
You never on.
Spencer
They never had me on.
Amanda Leehan
Well, I didn't work here, so you can't blame me.
Shane
They were.
Spencer
They were pulling anyone onto that show except for me. They were like, oh, that guy that walked by the office one time, get him in here.
Amanda Leehan
Oh, no.
Spencer
They were afraid of what I might say.
Amanda Leehan
Whoa. And look at us. We brought you on so much. And you said really fun things on here.
Shane
We're fearless on Smoshmouth. That's what people say. The most fearless podcast that exists.
Amanda Leehan
We are.
Spencer
This was. This was fact checked by real American Patriots.
Amanda Leehan
Gross.
Shane
We'll say anything on this show. Okay.
Amanda Leehan
You wanted to discuss something, Shane, before we get.
Shane
We're going to talk about movies today.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah, we are.
Shane
Because I've been laughing my ass off at letterboxd reviews, and I. I pulled a bunch.
Amanda Leehan
Lol, man.
Shane
But there's a serious discussion happening. By the time this episode airs, it'll probably. The discussion will be past its prime, but I feel like we need to address it because of a lot of things, you know, particularly. Look, you got the portrait right behind you. So Gorillaz are back online right now.
Spencer
Gorillas are back.
Shane
Gorillas are back.
Spencer
Have you ever seen Congo?
Shane
Yeah, haven't I? There's a very serious. There's a very serious debate happening right now. And before I Give you any context, going to have you answer, who would win in a fight? 100 men versus one silverback gorilla.
Amanda Leehan
Oh, yeah. Oh, God, this is happening.
Spencer
Oh, God, this is happening.
Shane
This is happening for real men.
Amanda Leehan
Just coming back. I'm strong.
Shane
This is 100 random men. We don't get to pick the men.
Spencer
And there's no weapons.
Shane
There's no weapons. Bear bare hands.
Amanda Leehan
One hundred percent. A silverback gorilla versus a hundred men. Yes.
Spencer
Fuck those guys.
Amanda Leehan
A hundred men. I'm pissed that men are even coming together and being like, hey, what do you guys think? Right, Spencer?
Spencer
That was what I thought at first. That was my initial thought.
Amanda Leehan
No, don't.
Spencer
I have been cooking on this for like a week.
Shane
Yeah. Every man. This is what it's been like.
Amanda Leehan
Realistically.
Spencer
It's been. Realistically. It's only been a couple days since this discussion fully emerged. But because I've been thinking about strategies, I've been thinking about how we would do it.
Amanda Leehan
I don't like this.
Spencer
Yeah, no, I. And that's. I think the ultimate thing is I think this is. This is something that a lot of men, I think, enjoy thinking about just.
Shane
The sheer military strategy.
Amanda Leehan
What's your strategy?
Spencer
I just, I don't want to get too, like, graphic with it, but like, essentially you have to suffocate him.
Shane
That's, that's, that is.
Spencer
That's the only. But it's like, it's pure numbers and like, like you, like you would lose many men. Like, it would not be.
Amanda Leehan
Do you know who you're speaking to? Someone who will defend her life for these silverback gorillas.
Shane
Nobody's going to be happy.
Spencer
I know. So that's the other thing I always want to, like, preface this conversation with, like, is this would be awful. This would be like, this would be a tragedy for all involved. And I never want this to happen.
Shane
I'm just saying I hope this situation does not occur.
Amanda Leehan
Why are men randomly now bringing this up?
Shane
I think it's a discussion a lot.
Spencer
Of, like, I think it's a discussion we need to have.
Shane
I think it's a discussion we need to have. Why I brought up this all the time of, like, if you put me in the octagon with any wild animal, I'm losing. I don't think I'm. There's not many animals, but I think people often overestimate what a person could do. Now, 100 men. The problem is that has been brought up is that gorillas, while so strong, so strong, their endurance is not infinite. So, you know, they're gonna get tired out from killing men.
Amanda Leehan
Have you guys seen Gladiator? You have to work together. So are these hundred men meeting. Are you guys having meetings?
Shane
We all just get dropped in and there's no pre planning.
Spencer
It's like the Batman thing. It's like. It's like, oh, could Batman beat him? It's like, with prep time.
Shane
Yes, with prep time, Batman could beat him, but. And technically Batman, one of Batman's villains is a gorilla. That's really smart.
Spencer
So there's the theory that it's like Batman could be. Not even a theory. I would say it's the truth. It's like Batman could beat anybody if given prep time.
Amanda Leehan
Which Batman? Christian Bale, Literally anybody. Ben Affleck.
Spencer
Yes.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda Leehan
You think Ben Affleck.
Shane
Actually, Ben Affleck's Batman is kind of op.
Spencer
I won't lie to you. The only Batman Ben Affleck piece of film I've seen was his brief appearance in Suicide Squad.
Amanda Leehan
Got it.
Spencer
I haven't seen the full unaliving squad.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah, very good.
Shane
But. Okay, that's a different discussion, the Batman discussion. But I do agree. I think that the gorilla would get tired out. I do think you just have to dogpile him on top.
Spencer
It'd be like in the second Matrix movie, you know, when all the Agent Smiths jump on. Yeah, that's exactly.
Shane
I love that part.
Amanda Leehan
And then.
Spencer
And then he goes, boom.
Shane
Neo did win that fight. I think that would happen the first. The first time we dogpile him, the gorilla is going to do that, and we're all going to go flying. We all have to then regroup, and.
Spencer
Then we go slide back.
Shane
We'd be like, more. Yeah, I do think. I do think we're going to lose. The question is, how many men are you going to. I think it's a lot.
Amanda Leehan
Oh, I don't think you guys are going to succeed.
Shane
My favorite discussion topic has been like, hey, we might win, but what that gorilla is going to do to the first guy, we're going to know about. We're going to hear about that for centuries.
Amanda Leehan
The first guy's going to go. He's going to look around and go. And the girl is going to go. And he's going to go.
Shane
That's his crumbled body. That's my fear. Is this.
Spencer
The.
Shane
The psychological aspect is the problem? Because you need to hope that in the hundred guys that you have, like five to 10 guys who are so egotistical that they're going to go. They're going to charge and start this. Because if we hesitate and that gorilla gets a chance to take people one on one, we're going to lose a lot more guys.
Amanda Leehan
I'm telling you. I think it's going to be more than five to 10 egotistical guys. I think it's going to be 50 guys who are like, I am going to take.
Shane
I think our chances are much better because we got to get on top of him. You got to just put weight.
Spencer
I want to. I want to emphasize again, I want no part of this, that this actually happened.
Shane
I hope this never happens.
Amanda Leehan
Oh, I don't like this.
Shane
But let people have been. People have been making the joke of, like, if Mr. Beast hears about this.
Spencer
Well, he already said something about it.
Shane
Oh, God.
Amanda Leehan
He say.
Spencer
He's like. He's like, let me work on this.
Shane
No, don't let him cook.
Amanda Leehan
Don't let him cook at all.
Spencer
Honestly, you throw Mr. Beast in.
Amanda Leehan
Here's the thing. I think if you guys were thrown into, like, a coliseum with a silverback gorilla, I would hope that you wouldn't. I would hope that it would be, like, against your will. I don't know why that makes me feel better.
Shane
The context of this is it's not like 100 guys signed up for this. It's like, what would happen if 100 guys and a gorilla were in the same room and they could only leave once one of them was dead?
Spencer
I think. Here's the. Here's the thing. I think you could easily get 100 guys to sign up for this.
Amanda Leehan
I kind of agree. Actually, I went backwards. I'm like, wait a second. No, this is actually probably could be a thing.
Spencer
I don't want it to happen yet.
Shane
Yeah.
Spencer
So neither of you guys have seen Congo?
Shane
I don't know what Congo.
Spencer
So it's the. It's. It's the movie.
Amanda Leehan
Old school movie.
Spencer
It's like a 90s movie where they. They go into the Congo and there's like, the. The evil gorillas.
Shane
Oh, I don't think I know this.
Amanda Leehan
Maybe I have. Who's in it?
Spencer
See, that's Ernie Hudson.
Amanda Leehan
Should I let her box review it?
Spencer
Tim Curry's in it.
Amanda Leehan
What is he doing in it?
Shane
It does break my heart. The discussion breaks my heart. Because gorillas, I think, are very silly.
Spencer
Oh, they're silly.
Shane
And, like, truthfully, gorillas aren't, like, vicious animals. Now. Chimpanzees. Chimpanzees. Nightmare fuel. I did see someone bring up the debate of, like, okay, your entire friend group versus a chimpanzee. I'M like, you're losing that.
Spencer
Yeah.
Shane
You need way more than 10 guys.
Spencer
I would run.
Shane
Yeah. I would trip someone else and then run.
Amanda Leehan
Okay. Find yourself someone that looks at you the way Dr. Peter Elliot looks at Amy, the talking gorilla.
Spencer
Amy was the talking gorilla.
Amanda Leehan
One of the reviews from Congo. Ernie Hudson jumps out of a plane while hugging a talking gorilla.
Spencer
Yeah.
Amanda Leehan
So I gotta see this movie.
Spencer
Amy is the talking gorilla, and they bring her to the Congo rainforest. Like an expedition goes missing in the Congo. It's based on a Michael Crichton book. It's. It's pretty silly. It's got Bruce Campbell in the beginning.
Amanda Leehan
The movie is just okay. But I would take a bullet for the Amy, the gorilla.
Shane
So the gorilla does sign language.
Spencer
It does sign language, but she's got kind of a. Like a translator on, so it will translate her movements into speech.
Amanda Leehan
I think I need to watch this. Do you remember there was another gorilla movie?
Shane
Mighty Joe Young.
Amanda Leehan
Thank you so much for being incredible. Thank you.
Shane
There's our YouTube short. Thank you so much. There was only one other gorilla movie in the.
Amanda Leehan
There's only. Oh, so many people. I can go, do you remember that movie? And have them both say it at the same time.
Shane
It's like guerrilla movies. It's like you have King Kong. You have the Peter Jackson King Kong. You have Mighty Joe Young.
Amanda Leehan
You have Congo, Charlize Theron and Bill Paxton. Right? Mighty Joe Young.
Spencer
Paxton in it. I'm pretty sure it might be a Bill Pullman. Oh, no, I will say, did you guys ever see George of the Jungle?
Amanda Leehan
Yeah, of course.
Spencer
Remember, John Cleese is the gorilla?
Amanda Leehan
No.
Spencer
Well, John Cleese is the gorilla. It's a great movie.
Shane
There's the other gorilla movie.
Spencer
Yeah. George of the Jungle.
Shane
Was we also Greystoke.
Amanda Leehan
I know what that is.
Spencer
Oh, okay.
Amanda Leehan
See, Bill Paxton.
Spencer
You're right.
Shane
Okay. Mighty Joe Young. Bill Paxton.
Spencer
God, that age gap is probably crazy.
Amanda Leehan
You think? No, I think they were pretty much the same age.
Spencer
Charlize Theron is probably, like, young. She's probably 23. That's my. That's the age gap in Jurassic Park. Alan Grant is like, the actor is probably, like 20 years older than Laura Dern.
Amanda Leehan
Okay. Charlize Theron was. And she's 75. And he was born in 1955. R.I.P.
Shane
Yeah. Pretty wild.
Amanda Leehan
Wow. Okay. Gorilla movies. Incredible.

Is brought to you by Rocket Money. Shane, have you been watching a lot of shows recently?
Shane
Been watching a few, but I've definitely fallen off a little bit. And I still have my subscriptions for all my streaming services, though, and I need to. I need to dwindle that down because I'm spending a lot of money I don't want to spend, so I can lose track easily.
Amanda Leehan
Right. Well, luckily, there's Rocket Money for that, which is great.
Shane
I need it because Rocket Money is a personal finance app that helps you find and cancel your unwanted subscriptions, monitors your spending, and helps lower your bills so you can grow your savings. And I need that some a forgetful person. So if I have something that reminds me of the subscriptions that I'm paying for, that's nice. And it helps you cancel them too.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah, it's so easy. You just download the app, you see all your subscriptions right there, and it alerts you if your bills increase. And there's a new goal feature so you can start saving money, have a budget, and just, like, get everything on track.
Shane
It's incredible.
Amanda Leehan
Rocket Money has over 5 million users and has saved a total of $500 million in canceled subscriptions, saving members up to $740 a year when they use all of the app's premium features.
Shane
Before Rocket Money, I had tons of subscriptions that I had forgotten about when I downloaded the app. I was amazed to see the things that I was paying for that I was not realizing I was paying for. It is great. I'm saving so much more money every month.
Amanda Leehan
Cancel your unwanted subscriptions and reach your financial goals faster with Rocket Money. Go to RocketMoney.com Smoshmouth today. That's RocketMoney.com Smoshmouth RocketMoney.com Smoshmouth Back to the show. Let's go.
Shane
Okay, Adrian, so we want to talk about movies. Let's get into movies, dude.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah, let's get into movies. I will say I had not read letterboxd reviews, and so it was. So what I love about Smoshmouth is it's opening up my world into things that people do constantly. And so I got to go on letterboxd reviews and be like, this is so fun.
Spencer
Did you follow me?
Amanda Leehan
You're on there.
Spencer
I'm on there.
Amanda Leehan
How will I find you?
Shane
Are you popular on letterboxd? Are you a letterboxd influencer?
Spencer
No. That's good to you.
Amanda Leehan
How do I find you?
Spencer
So here's the thing. Look good, people of Letterboxd. If you're watching, fix your interface, bro. I don't know how to search for shit on there.
Shane
I don't either.
Amanda Leehan
You have to DO members or HQs.
Shane
So. By the way, Letterboxd is an app. It's like a social media app, but it's all about movies and reviewing movies. But it kind of works a little like social media because you can follow people.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah.
Spencer
You can see what they're watching.
Shane
You can have. There's reviews and then you can kind of review reviews.
Amanda Leehan
So I think it's. Leave comments on people's reviews and you're not there. I don't know where you are.
Spencer
I don't know where you are. So I really like it because I do like seeing what movies my friends are watching.
Amanda Leehan
That's true.
Spencer
So that I can kind of be like, oh, like I saw you watched. Blah, blah, blah. Like, what'd you think? Oh, that's usually like a conversation starter.
Shane
Yeah. And it also shows what movies are popular and it's not just what's out. It's like if. If there's a re release or if a movie's just kind of trending like. Like the prequels are kind of talk being talked.
Amanda Leehan
There is a movie trending right now that all the girlies are watching. There's a movie that got re released in theaters. Pride and Prejudice.
Spencer
Did you go?
Amanda Leehan
I was just with Morgan from Two Hot Takes and we talked about it for probably 30 minutes. I haven't gone because I just rewatched it streaming. Just because it's my yearly.
Shane
I've never seen it.
Amanda Leehan
I know the hell.
Shane
And I know that's. I know that's a big one because I know. I know people say that that is.
Amanda Leehan
Next level to get in your car and you need to go home. Right meow. Because it is so good. You guys like that?
Shane
Did you.
Amanda Leehan
You did pretty cool millennial shit.
Shane
You didn't just. You didn't just.
Amanda Leehan
Right now you need to. Right meow. Go home right now. Right now. Listen to me.
Shane
You hold up your finger and there's a mustache drawn on it.
Amanda Leehan
Right now you need to go home right now.
Shane
I must ask you a question.
Amanda Leehan
No Pride and Prejudice, okay? It is. It is the best fucking movie ever.
Shane
Is it one of your favorite movies of all time?
Amanda Leehan
It's one of my favorite movies of all time. I think a lot of women will say this. It is such a classic. Good movie, incredible music.
Shane
I literally. It has a. It has a soundtrack. It has a 4.1 on letterbox.
Amanda Leehan
Well, I looked up some reviews on letterbox for Pride and Prejudice. Five stars. I'm going to die alone.
Spencer
With that attitude.
Amanda Leehan
So that's one.
Spencer
And then me reviewing any movie, gonna die alone.
Amanda Leehan
And then four stars. And if you haven't watched this, you won't get this. No.
Shane
Pride and Prejudice.
Amanda Leehan
Listen to me. Four stars. My English literary teacher once said that the hand flex shot is one of the greatest shots in cinema history. She was so real for that. Do you know which one I'm talking about?
Shane
I don't know that.
Amanda Leehan
Okay.
Shane
But I know the plot. Pride and prejudice. I know Mr. Darcy.
Amanda Leehan
No, Mr. Darcy. It's an. Apparently, it's an improvised scene. He literally. So him and Keira Knightley have this tension going. Yeah. The guy from Succession. Which kills me because it's like, I don't want to picture that. Mr. Darcy. Very sexy. Don't think Succession. Don't even go, there. He is, like, lifting Keira Knightley into the carriage.
Shane
Yes.
Amanda Leehan
And they're. They're tense. They're very tense or whatever. None of them will admit anything. And he lifts her hand. And then there's just one shot of him walking back and he goes like this with his hand because he touched her hand.
Shane
Oh, romance.
Spencer
Yeah, this.
Amanda Leehan
God, I hate you both. You guys suck ass.
Spencer
Yeah, the part in Terminator 2, and he's like, I won't kill anyone. Then he shoots the guard, like, three times.
Shane
That's so sad.
Spencer
I love Terminator 2. You guys.
Shane
The top. The top comment on Pride and Prejudice, it's five stars. And it just says, the hand flex, the hand flex, the hand flex, the hand flex, the hand flex. And that goes on forever.
Amanda Leehan
Honestly, Shane, I think that you will literally, literally love it.
Shane
Oh, I'm sure I'll love it.
Amanda Leehan
You've seen it.
Spencer
I. I think I was a little young. I think I saw it kind of Mighty Joe Young. I saw it in, like, high school. I was like, yeah, I'm not really, like, I'm trying to see. I'm trying to see V for Vendetta for, like, the fifth time.
Shane
Yeah, bro.
Spencer
Yeah.
Amanda Leehan
Natalie Portman with a shaved head is.
Shane
Just hot ass movie.
Amanda Leehan
It is so good.
Spencer
That movie, like, shifted the way I. I thought for, like, week we came out of V for Vendetta. Me and my friends in, like, eighth grade. Or whatever. We were like, bro, no.
Shane
What the fuck? That's what I was the most chosen thought that I had watching V for Vendetta. Because this isn't like a huge. This is a spoiler, but not gonna ruin the movie. I'm just like, yeah, if I was on fire, I would just stand and take it, too. Cause that would be so badass if you're just on fire and just like, whatever.
Amanda Leehan
I think we should warn viewers that there might be some spoilers in this episode.
Shane
So I'm not gonna spoil movies.
Amanda Leehan
I'm not gonna spoil Ends or anything.
Shane
I'm not gonna spoil V for Vendetta.
Spencer
Director's other movie. Atonement.
Amanda Leehan
Oh, stop. Atonement is literally on my list.
Shane
I have watched Atonement and I've read the book, and it's amazing. No, no, no, no.
Amanda Leehan
Atonement is the top of my list under bad.
Spencer
What?
Amanda Leehan
I don't care. I don't care. No, don't lift up this table.
Shane
You think Atonement is bad. Movie.
Amanda Leehan
Movie. Here's the thing. As a movie, bad movie, it's gorgeous. Beautiful, excellent actors. As a person watching it, I would rather be buried in the ground than watch it again. I'm so sorry.
Spencer
It's pretty devastating.
Amanda Leehan
Saddest. And Saoirse Ronan. Incredible. Incredible. She plays a little. She plays a little shit. And I just. It's so upsetting. I think it's because all my. My mom and my sister, we had, like, a date in New York when we were younger, and my mom was like, and we're going to go see Atonement. We were like, ooh, yay.
Shane
And you left the theater.
Amanda Leehan
Fuck.
Shane
It is depressing.
Spencer
A movie with, like, a fuck you ending. Like a depressing one. Did you guys ever see Pay it Forward?
Shane
Yeah. You were talking about this the other day.
Amanda Leehan
The other day. Isn't that okay.
Shane
Pay it forward.
Spencer
Spoilers. It's Kevin Spacey as the. As the guy with the burnt face. It's. Yeah, I think it's Helen Hunt. And then it's Haley Jo Osmond. Yes, it is the kids and the whole movie. It's like him kind of like. Like, you know, it's him talking, like, paying it forward. It's him kind of like, you know, re establishing growth in the community general. At the end, just gets. Just gets stabbed and dies.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah.
Shane
It's not a movie that I feel like, oh, you got to see that movie. But it is just like, here. Here's this kid. He's so sweet that he's inspiring. Everyone. And at the end, he's like, yeah, he got stabbed and died this.
Amanda Leehan
Poor Haley Joel Osmond. I mean, Sixth Sense. This.
Spencer
He was fine in Sixth Sense.
Amanda Leehan
No, he was so good. But, like, the trauma.
Shane
Until he got. Until he got stabbed at the end.
Spencer
Yeah, but I mean, like. But he made it out of Sixth Sense.
Shane
Like, okay.
Spencer
Like, he made it out unz. Unscathed.
Shane
He makes Bruce Willis.
Spencer
Bruce Willis. Unfortunately, that.
Amanda Leehan
Don't you dare say anything else because that's a spoiler. One of my favorite. What?
Spencer
You never heard Jizz in My Pants?
Amanda Leehan
What?
Spencer
When Bruce Willis was dead at the end of Sixth Sense and I jizzed in my pants.
Amanda Leehan
What are you talking about?
Spencer
It's the Lonely island song. It was a really pop.
Amanda Leehan
It was a really popular island, but I don't remember.
Spencer
It was a really popular song.
Amanda Leehan
And you did it again.
Shane
You said something killed James.
Amanda Leehan
You said something worse than me. You did it again. I don't remember that Lonely island song.
Shane
But Atonement. Atonement. You hated that so much. You listened to that. Under bad. Because here's my bad movies before I get.
Spencer
I didn't know we were supposed to have a list.
Shane
No, you're just. Oh, you probably know you're bad.
Amanda Leehan
You weren't in the meeting.
Spencer
We could just talk about Joe Wright movies the whole time. So we talk about Hannah. Remember that movie?
Amanda Leehan
Of course. Hannah without the H at the end. They made a whole show about it.
Spencer
I didn't watch it.
Shane
Hannah's. Hannah's good.
Amanda Leehan
Pretty good. The show's really good.
Spencer
The music in the Hannah movie was.
Amanda Leehan
And that's Saoirse Ronan.
Shane
So I guess he just loves Saoirse movies. Like. So here's the two worst movie experiences I've had in theaters.
Amanda Leehan
Tell me.
Shane
I do not go to movies if I think they're going to be bad. Honestly, not a fan. I'm not. Not a bad movie person. For theaters.
Amanda Leehan
For theaters. For home streaming. Done.
Spencer
Until there was, like, a moment because my best friend worked at the movie theater. We were in high school, so we would see everything. And there was a moment, and I think it was seeing G.I. joe in theaters. I was like, hot movie. I was like, anymore? I was like, I no longer need to see.
Shane
You're thinking of G.I.
Amanda Leehan
Jane, right?
Spencer
Which I. I get.
Shane
Hey, G.I.
Spencer
Jane'S actually based on G.I. joe. G.I. joe was. Guys.
Amanda Leehan
No, I know that G.I.
Shane
Joes is.
Amanda Leehan
I don't think I remember the movie G.I. joe, but keep.
Spencer
It was really bad, but that was. I think I saw that movie And I was like wait, I don't have to see like everything in the theater.
Shane
Yeah.
Spencer
I think that was like a very like an important moment where I was.
Shane
I don't have.
Spencer
I was like this actually actively wasted my time.
Amanda Leehan
Ye. I. I feel that.
Shane
Have you walked out of a movie? Did you walk out?
Spencer
We walked out of. It wasn't Barnyard but it was like one of those. It was. It was like Hoodwinked or something like that. I think I also walked out of. What was the movie? It was John Heater and Billy Bob Thornton.
Amanda Leehan
Monster's Ball.
Shane
No, no, like John Heater. John Heater.
Amanda Leehan
Wait, who's John? Oh God.
Spencer
School for Scoundrels.
Shane
School for Scoundrels.
Spencer
I think I walked out of School for Scoundrels. Yeah.
Shane
I walked out of one movie and it was Cop Out. A Kevin Smith movie. It's Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan. That movie was so bad that I truly like my buddy and I were like let's go.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah.
Shane
And we had. Luckily we'd gone to a theater where we were able to get in for free.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah, I don't watch those type of movies.
Shane
I found two reviews. I found two reviews on letterboxd for it and they seem to agree. Someone just said nah and gave it a half a star. And then someone, someone else, someone left a review for Cop out saying it's a slept on bit of trivia that this is actually the longest movie ever made. One and a half stars.
Spencer
I think Kevin Smith has come out and been like this is one of the worst movies ever made.
Shane
I. I did not realize it was Kevin Smith.
Amanda Leehan
Cover alone is the type of movies I cannot.
Shane
They just were like we're going to make money.
Amanda Leehan
I can't get through those type of movies. I struggle with them.
Shane
So I love strong form movies and this just felt like buddy duo. It just felt bad.
Spencer
I love a good buddy.
Amanda Leehan
Me too. But they've got to be fucking good. Yeah, they've got to be good.
Shane
The other. And I'm so glad we're past this era. I worry it's going to come back but I. Do you remember the era when it was like. So we started with Scary Movie and Scary Movie rocked.
Amanda Leehan
Love scary.
Shane
And all those scary movies. I've only seen the first one.
Amanda Leehan
What they get.
Spencer
So get dude. Once they bring in like the airplane Naked gun guys like Scary Movie one. Not a fan. Scary Movie two. It's better.
Amanda Leehan
So good.
Spencer
Scary Movie three.
Shane
Holy.
Amanda Leehan
Which ones is that the My hand.
Spencer
That's two.
Amanda Leehan
That's what three What? What?
Spencer
Three is where. Where she.
Amanda Leehan
Leslie Nielsen.
Spencer
Yeah.
Shane
Wow.
Spencer
Three is when they start bringing in Leslie Nielsen.
Shane
Okay, I'll watch.
Amanda Leehan
Naked Gun was one of my favorite.
Spencer
Three is like, the ring. Like, oh.
Amanda Leehan
Where it's like, yes. Water all over my floor. Cindy.
Spencer
And she's like, beating her up.
Shane
It's like one of the two movies Keith has seen. Any quiets? All the time.
Spencer
But.
Shane
So those. The scary movies were so successful, they started being like, let's just make a ton of these types of date movie. So they started. They made date movie. They made Disaster movie.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah, yeah.
Spencer
Movie 43.
Shane
Epic movie. Yeah.
Amanda Leehan
Movie 43 is an acid trip. My sister loves that movie.
Shane
But I. I did have a knockout.
Amanda Leehan
The knockout. Oh, my God. Yeah.
Shane
I would only want to go see good movies or movies that I knew were good.
Spencer
They should make a parody disaster movie. And then once. Just good movies.
Shane
Good movie. But I had a group of friends who would want to go see movies all the time, and they always picked the worst movies. And what sucked is they weren't picking it ironically.
Amanda Leehan
Gotta leave those friends.
Shane
Like, they were like, oh, this looks. They were like, let's go see Epic Movie. It looks so funny.
Amanda Leehan
No.
Shane
And I was like, really?
Spencer
What was the one that. Oh, superhero movie was one with Drake Bell.
Shane
Oh, God.
Amanda Leehan
Didn't watch that.
Shane
But I went and saw Epic Movie, and I don't remember much of it because it's not even a movie. It's just a series of stupid gags and. Yeah, like, baseline jokes. But I found some reviews of it. Someone said this cost 20 million to make half a star. Someone left a review for Epic Movie saying, fuck off. Lastly, someone said, more like funny fucking movie. Four stars.
Amanda Leehan
Okay.
Shane
Someone liked it, dude. Which is crazy.
Amanda Leehan
I. I will say I. After Scary Movie, I was like, I can't, guys. I can't go down this journey of, like, these fake movies. I will say, though, movie 43. My sister's the type of person who re. Watches movies constantly. I do, too. But, like, to the point where it's like.
Spencer
It gets to a point.
Shane
43 is a series of, like, short.
Spencer
Movies with, like, some top.
Shane
It was huge actors. It was like Hugh Jackman.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah. And what's his name?
Spencer
Kate Winslet, I think.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda Leehan
It's got a lot of, like, Anna Faris and when she was married to.
Shane
Chris Pratt, a bunch of a list celebrities in this weird collection of short movies. But apparently it's so bad.
Amanda Leehan
It's actually really funny and bad at the same time, so it's hard to watch.
Spencer
Didn't the Farley Brothers do, like, one of the segments? Like, I think it was different directors per segment.
Amanda Leehan
So my mom went to high school with the Farley brothers. She brings it up all the time.
Spencer
That's fucking fun.
Amanda Leehan
She went to high school, the Farley Brothers, and they always put. So I got really into the Farley brothers growing up.
Spencer
Hey. Their first, like, five or six movies.
Amanda Leehan
There's something about Mary.
Spencer
Yeah.
Shane
Dumb and Dumber.
Amanda Leehan
Dumb and Dumber. Oh, my God.
Shane
It's one of my favorites.
Amanda Leehan
Have you rewatched or something about Mary?
Shane
Yeah, we watched it, and I was like, damn, Okay.
Amanda Leehan
I still love that movie.
Shane
I love that movie.
Amanda Leehan
But when he has Grandma.
Spencer
Oh, yeah.
Amanda Leehan
Ben Stiller, man.
Shane
Any comedy you watch from the 90s, you're gonna have a couple moments in the. In the movie where you're like, whoa.
Amanda Leehan
Whoa. Which brings me to my next letterbox.
Spencer
AKA all of me, myself and Irene, and Stuck on you.
Amanda Leehan
And the one that you and me talk about, Drop Dead Gorgeous, which I'm.
Shane
Gonna tell you right now, I've not seen it. Still.
Spencer
It is so funny.
Amanda Leehan
It's so funny. But it doesn't hold up well.
Shane
No.
Amanda Leehan
I looked up 1 review. 5 stars. When they wheel the former queen around the stage, I always lose it.
Shane
I think I looked up the reviews for Drop Dead Gorgeous. Someone said it's so bad for feminism, but it's so funny that I love it.
Amanda Leehan
It's actually.
Spencer
It's women.
Amanda Leehan
Hilarious.
Spencer
It's an ensemble cast of the best.
Amanda Leehan
It's Kirsten Dunst. It's Brittany Murphy. It's Amy Adams. It's Denise Richards. Denise Richards.
Spencer
Kirstie Alley.
Amanda Leehan
Kirstie Alley.
Spencer
Who's the lady? You know, Frau Forbisno.
Amanda Leehan
Mindy Sterling.
Spencer
Mindy Sterling is fucking.
Advertiser
I don't know where they get this.
Amanda Leehan
I don't know where they get this. Mel Rules American Team Princess. And it's literally the. It's the perfect movie. And then it just gets. So one of the judges with the video camera. Just gonna go film the girls.
Spencer
Just gonna go watch the girl. Will Sasso.
Shane
Will Sasso. Will Sasso's the best.
Amanda Leehan
He plays.
Spencer
Yeah, yeah.
Amanda Leehan
We don't have to talk.
Spencer
We don't have to go into it.
Amanda Leehan
But the last review that I put in is five stars. Jesus loves winners.
Spencer
Jesus loves winners.
Amanda Leehan
That's like this slogan in there.
Spencer
No, Denise Richards is, like. She plays this super. They're, like, super conservative, like family that kind of, like, runs the town informally. So good.
Amanda Leehan
It's. Yeah.
Spencer
Oh, Tammy, you're Tammy.
Amanda Leehan
Tammy. Oh, my God. Tammy. Well, you just have to watch it.
Spencer
You gotta watch it, bro.
Shane
All right, I'll add it to the list.
Amanda Leehan
I think Shane's gonna watch it and be like, what the hell?
Spencer
No, I would be surprised if you didn't find it funny.
Shane
Okay, I'll check it out.
Amanda Leehan
So bad.
Shane
Yeah, there's a few Amanda movies I need to watch. Cause that. It's drop dead gorgeous, but it's also. What's the one with Meryl Streep? The.
Amanda Leehan
Oh, River Wild. No, I wore that T shirt the other day. I literally wore it.
Shane
I think it's Jack Nicholson. Meryl Streep. It's like Witches of Eastwick. Is it Witches of Eastwood?
Spencer
I think that's.
Shane
No, I thought. I thought it was a. It's like.
Spencer
It's not. Death becomes hers.
Shane
Death becomes her.
Amanda Leehan
Oh, Jack Nicholson's not in that.
Spencer
It's Bruce Willie.
Amanda Leehan
It's Bruce Willis.
Shane
Okay. Death becomes hers.
Spencer
Death becomes her. I didn't see it till a couple, like, probably a couple months ago. It's incredible. It's Robert Zemeckis, like, firing on all cylinders.
Shane
Okay.
Amanda Leehan
And they're doing a musical. I think the musical's happening in Chicago and maybe New York.
Shane
Wow.
Amanda Leehan
But Meryl Streep, what? Like, she's a dramatic actor, but she's.
Spencer
So good at comedy. Dude, her and Goldie Hawn are, like, eating in that movie.
Amanda Leehan
Oh, my God. Goldie Hawn is incredible.
Spencer
She's.
Shane
She's really funny.
Amanda Leehan
And Witches of Eastwood is Michelle Pfeiffer, Meryl Streep and cherry and Jack Nicholson.
Shane
Wow.
Spencer
That's.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah, that would be.

Amanda Leehan
This episode is brought to you by Get Contact. Shane, have you been getting those spam told text messages?
Shane
So many. Each one is like, okay, this is for real this time. You need to pay this. And I'm like, I know you're a scam. Your tell is so obvious. But I'm not getting them anymore because I got get Contact, which is an app that screens and helps block scam and spam messages, calls, texts. It's incredible.
Amanda Leehan
We need that. Everybody needs that. Because I'm constantly getting texts while I'm on set, which is really annoying. And then you always think I'm ignoring you on my phone, but I'm really not.
Shane
Yeah, but it seems like you are.
Amanda Leehan
No, but Get Contact also blocks all texts, so I never even see them. They don't even exist.
Shane
That's right. Get Contact has a lot of other features, too. It has Call Reason display. So you might get a call from an unknown number, something that you would normally wouldn't answer, but it might give the reasoning for it. It might say, hey, package delivery. Need confirmation for something? You're like, okay, like, because you might be waiting on a call from someone, but you don't know their number. So it can help you in a lot of other ways, too, but all of it points to avoiding scams.
Amanda Leehan
And spam relieves so much anxiety. And I really am listening to you sometimes.
Shane
Okay. Get Contact ensures reliable spam blocking for calls and texts, letting you stay focused on what truly matters, take control of.
Amanda Leehan
Your calls, block spam, identify unknown numbers, and stay connected securely. Get Contact is available now on the App Store and Google Play. Download.
Shane
Today back to what's important. The show. You. Me.
Amanda Leehan
I will say I put in one of my favorite 90s movies, what lies Beneath.
Spencer
Yeah, I was scarred by the trailer for that. I have seen the movie. I think that's Robert Zemeckis, too. No, that's.
Amanda Leehan
I think you might be right. It's Michelle Pfeiffer.
Shane
I had the ending of that spoiled because my mom was watching it one day.
Amanda Leehan
No.
Shane
And I walked out as the ending was happening, but the ending made me go like, this is sick. I should watch this movie.
Amanda Leehan
It's Robert Zemeckis.
Shane
Wow. You clocked it.
Amanda Leehan
It's Robert Zemeckis. And one of the reviews is 3 stars. I bet wine moms went crazy over this back in 2000.
Shane
My mom fucking loved that movie.
Spencer
Are you a wine drinker?
Shane
You're a wine. Yeah, you are.
Spencer
Future wine mom shirt that says, like, future?
Amanda Leehan
Yeah, Yeah, I was a wine mom, like, 22.
Spencer
What movie are you gonna show your kid first?
Shane
Oh, wow.
Amanda Leehan
Definitely not what Lies Beneath. A little spooky.
Spencer
Are you. Are you putting, like, the headphones on your belly and just, like, playing stuff for me?
Amanda Leehan
I haven't yet, but I should. G will play hardcore techno, though.
Shane
This is Pride and Prejudice.
Amanda Leehan
I don't know what first movie.
Spencer
This one's Pride and Bridge.
Amanda Leehan
They wouldn't understand Pride and Prejudice yet.
Spencer
Yeah, not until they Wouldn't get it.
Shane
Maybe Double jeopardy, pride and pregnant. Am I right?
Spencer
Junior?
Amanda Leehan
Get out of here. Get out of here right now. Oh yeah, we could play Junior, which no one talks about that movie cuz.
Spencer
No one talks about. Junior is pregnant. They got him. They got him.
Shane
Boy.
Spencer
Pregnant. I forgot that's the first mpreg movie.
Amanda Leehan
I. Yeah, yeah.
Shane
I forget that that movie exists. And I truly have moments where I'm like, it was that a Berenstain bears thing? Where I thought that movie existed and it didn't.
Spencer
So I thought that that and twins were like the same movie. Danny DeVito, because I've never seen either. And to me they're just like that. Never seen twins that in like Kindergarten Cop, like as a kid, like they were all kind of the same.
Shane
That's all just movie. Arnold Schwarzwartz, Jingle all the Way.
Spencer
Jingle all the Way was the one that I did see as a kid. That and Jungle the Jungle.
Amanda Leehan
Jungle. Jungle. Tim Allen. Yeah, he did so many movies. Jungle, the Jungle the mom fish sticks. Do you remember that?
Spencer
So I don't remember Jungle to Jungle.
Amanda Leehan
It was me and my sister's like. It's one of those that I've seen a hundred times.
Spencer
Have you ever seen Galaxy Quest?
Amanda Leehan
Of course.
Shane
That movie's. That movie.
Amanda Leehan
Galaxy Quest. Severus Snape, actor. Galaxy Quest is so good. And Sigourney Weaver's in that.
Spencer
Dude, she's so hot in that movie.
Shane
She is. Actually. It's.
Amanda Leehan
It's.
Shane
It's insane.
Amanda Leehan
Calm down.
Shane
It's insane. It's fully. It's fully insane.
Amanda Leehan
Jesus Christ, you guys.
Shane
Okay, relax. I. I was loving these letterboxes.
Spencer
Sam Rockwell in that movie.
Shane
Guy super good.
Amanda Leehan
Him and White Lotus.
Spencer
That was crazy.
Amanda Leehan
Yum.
Shane
Well, okay, stop.
Amanda Leehan
Yum, yum, yum.
Shane
You're gonna. You're gonna shame us for Sigourney Weaver.
Amanda Leehan
No, I wasn't gonna shame you. It's all good. It's fine.
Shane
Anyways, I was looking up on letterboxd. Just a bunch of reviews for my favorite movies and just random movies.
Spencer
Have we. Could we look at the ones for the smosh movies?
Shane
I. I did.
Amanda Leehan
Okay, but I want to hear your faves.
Shane
We'll get to the smosh. We'll get to smosh the movie soon. So my faves are a few of them. Raiders of the Lost Ark. Someone left a review. He really rated the fuck out of those arcs.
Spencer
Four stars, four stars.
Shane
Four stars. I was like, come on, give it five.
Spencer
Come on.
Shane
Some guy named Joe gave it five stars. That French dude Totally eats a fly. Like it just crawls right into his mouth and he acts like nothing happened. So hardcore than Temple of Doom.
Spencer
So there is actually a story to that because.
Shane
Okay. For anyone who's seen Raiders Lost Ark, there's a part where an actor, the main villain, they're outside and a fly just lands on his mouth and just crawls into his mouth.
Amanda Leehan
Yes.
Spencer
So it's, it's, it's not real. They, they cut. Well, it crawls on his mouth and then it flew away. But they cut it out of the fly flying away so that it looks like it goes into his mouth to make him creepier. To make him. Well, cuz like that at that point he's been fully corrupted, like by the power of the Ark is like kind of like what? Like the explanation that was given. I was like, that's cool.
Amanda Leehan
I love trivia like that. That's. That's so cool.
Spencer
I love that movie. I'm a big indie head.
Shane
Yeah, you and I are big. We're both big indie heads.
Amanda Leehan
I'm a big indie head.
Shane
Like, it's like Star wars versus Indiana Jones. We're taking Indiana Jones every time.
Amanda Leehan
I will say I never went down the Indiana Jones path really that much at all. But Star wars obsessed.
Shane
You're obsessed with Star Wars.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah. My grandmother had all the vhs, so we watched all of them.
Shane
I want to talk about.
Amanda Leehan
But I didn't know the fucking place where.
Shane
Wasn't it Tatooine?
Amanda Leehan
I was like, where the fuck? What's Tatooine?
Shane
Chance and I had a great riff on gentrified tattooing. Chance was like, they have a Shake Shack there.
Spencer
They have a Shake Shack.
Amanda Leehan
Little details that I don't remember.
Shane
So funny. We'll talk about Star wars in a second because that's. Is there. Is there a more heated debate amongst the movie genre than Star wars movies?
Amanda Leehan
What about Hayden Christensen?
Shane
I feel like if you talk about Star wars movies, that's the most heated debate. Movie discussion.
Amanda Leehan
Absolutely. Absolutely. I think it's because of the Star wars world. I mean, that's still happening currently. Like, absolutely. I think people get really upset about, like, which one's their favorite, which ones? I think there's this. There's a large group of people who think there's one or two movies that are like really bad that they didn't enjoy that. Because, like, you think about it, you're like picturing the story and when they cast it, that's the hardest part.
Shane
Totally.
Amanda Leehan
Casting can make people really upset, which I get.
Shane
It's It's.
Spencer
I think, to me, Star wars just means so many different things to so many different people. So you're never gonna. You're always gonna piss people off.
Amanda Leehan
You're never gonna make everyone.
Spencer
But when it hits.
Shane
When it hits, it hits.
Amanda Leehan
It hits.
Shane
We'll get to. We'll get back to that in a second. Some others I have Before Sunrise. The before trilogy is one of my favorites.
Amanda Leehan
I've never seen them, and it's one of those things where I'm like, I have to. You haven't?
Spencer
No.
Amanda Leehan
But don't you feel like I gotta. Right?
Shane
They're so good. Ethan Hahn. So Richard Linklater is the director, and he does a lot of experimental, very, like, subtle things. Boyhood.
Amanda Leehan
Boyhood.
Shane
But Before. The before trilogy is his best work, I think. And now he does have School of Rock, which is badass.
Amanda Leehan
Wait, I thought Mike White did School of Rock.
Spencer
He wrote it.
Shane
He wrote it, but Richard Linklater directed it, which is very funny when you watch all of his other stuff.
Amanda Leehan
He does like.
Spencer
He did like.
Shane
But what's.
Amanda Leehan
Did he do the animated one with Keanu Reeves?
Shane
I don't know.
Spencer
Sausage party.
Shane
Sausage party. Anyways, before, the premise of Before Sunrise is these two people are in Europe and they meet on a train. They get stuck overnight at this place. So the whole.
Spencer
There's only one bed.
Shane
The whole movie takes place over the course of one night, just one night. And then the second movie takes place. It was filmed nine years later. It takes place nine years later. And once again, you just see them for literally two hours. And the movie takes place over the course. It's just two hours of them talking. And the next movie is nine years after that. And it's once again, these same two people nine years later, talking for just two hours. So every movie is just very slice of life, but you're seeing different parts of their life.
Amanda Leehan
Whoa.
Shane
And it's really, really well done. But I found two comments. Someone said, I don't think I've had a real conversation before. Five star. Someone else. Someone else said, this is how some of y' all think you talk. Four and a half stars.
Amanda Leehan
That is so true.
Shane
The dialogue is so good, and it's so, like, subtle and, like, everyone's just, like, so in it.
Amanda Leehan
That's how you.
Shane
It's very poetic and it's very romantic. And then I put Forrest Gump as another one of my favorites. That's a very cheesy Robert Zemeckis. Robert Zemeckis.
Amanda Leehan
Wait, really?
Spencer
I think so.
Shane
Maybe Maybe a huge lie.
Amanda Leehan
He won an Oscar for that. Tom Hanks.
Shane
I love it. I loved it as a kid because it's such. Such a, like folk tale type movie. Yeah, it's very unrealistic. It's very silly. But someone. Someone said. I don't think this movie is as confused as people claim. The message is pretty simple. Jenny hates her country, protests it, and is punished for it. Lt. Dan believes in it and is willing to die for his country. And his country doesn't care at all. You've got to be a stupid idiot who never questions anything, who falls in line working for the system, and only then will you be rewarded. But what about Bubba? You might ask Edit and be white. And I was like, okay, fair criticism.
Amanda Leehan
That's a wild.
Shane
Someone else said, Tom Hanks got to have one of the top five foreheads in Hollywood. Five stars.
Spencer
He's.
Amanda Leehan
I mean, that's a very cool.
Shane
There was a lot of. There was a lot of criticism of the movie that. About it being just propaganda. And I was like, okay, fair. I'm not gonna. For me, that movie was never. I was always.
Amanda Leehan
I think I was too young to think about it.
Shane
I think I was too young.
Spencer
I think it not to get too. I think it does so much that it never feels like a celebration of America in a way where it presents it as like. Cause I mean, it shows the Vietnam War, like how much it ruined that whole generation while also showing like, hey, if you like, stood up against it, it also ruined you. But I mean, I guess that's where it's like, hey, if you fall in line, you. But I mean, I guess it's like, if that's the message you take away.
Shane
I don't know if I would.
Spencer
Sure. Like, that's not the message I took away.
Shane
I don't think I did either. It was interesting. Interesting.
Spencer
I just thought he was really good at ping pong.
Shane
He was just really. That's the thing. If you're really good at ping pong, you're gonna get through life.
Spencer
To me, it was like. I hate to say it, but it's like. It's just kind of showing American history through like a certain person's eyes. N A. Yeah.
Amanda Leehan
Come on, come on, come on.
Shane
And then I wrote Dumb and Dumber back to Fairleigh, so. Cause that's like my family. That's like my family's comedy movie.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah.
Spencer
We quote that ours was Ace Ventura.
Amanda Leehan
Ours was Ace Ventura. Mine too.
Shane
But tons of bad or tons of great reviews and it was just people quoting it Right. And there was one bad review that I saw, and it was just. I look around at all the four and five star reviews and I feel I'm on a different planet.
Amanda Leehan
You are on a different planet.
Shane
This is the thing, though, I want to bring this up. When it comes to comedies, I feel like if you watch it in the right time and place, it's going to be your favorite comedy.
Amanda Leehan
You cannot. You cannot show someone a classic. Like, if, like, I'm a little bit worried that you're going to watch Drop Dead Gorgeous, it's fine.
Spencer
I think you'll be fine.
Amanda Leehan
I think you'll be fine. But, like, you cannot show someone a classic years later. It has to be like, you gotta.
Shane
Be the right time, place.
Spencer
I remember even showing a friend Dumb and dumber in college. I was like, oh, like, I see. It was way, like, broader than I remember, I guess, in a way where I was like, oh, like, they. They really are like. I mean, there's scenery's, like, pooping for, like, you know, it's just like, sure, yeah, great scene like this. Yeah. I mean, yeah, like, I love that movie, but it's like, I see how if you're watching it for the first.
Amanda Leehan
Time, it's nostalgic for us to. To rewatch it, you know, like, also, that was Jim Carrey in his prime. That's when he did so many movies like that.
Spencer
The Mask in Ace Ventura. Within like a year.
Amanda Leehan
I will say I rewatched the Mask. It still.
Shane
Oh, the Mask holds up.
Amanda Leehan
It is so good.
Shane
That movie's incredible.
Spencer
I rewatched the Mask and I was thinking it. I feel like it could have gone. To me, it was the weakest of, like, those three to me.
Shane
Interesting.
Spencer
But, like, it's still. I also. I also recently. Recently I recently webbed a comic. I recently read the comic.
Shane
Well, the comic is, like, viciously violent.
Spencer
And I think that's kind of what, like, it felt really toned down. Toned down for the.
Amanda Leehan
That's because they probably wanted, like, kids to be able to watch it.
Spencer
Oh, absolutely. And as a kid, I love the Mask.
Shane
It's a wild choice to turn that comic into a kid's movie because the comic is, like, very adult, wild.
Amanda Leehan
There is one Jim Carrey movie that still haunts me to this day that I don't need to ever realize.
Shane
The majestic.
Spencer
I was gonna say man on the Moon.
Amanda Leehan
Larry the Cable Guy.
Shane
What?
Spencer
My parents wouldn't let me see that one.
Amanda Leehan
It. I don't know what it does.
Shane
You mean the Cable Man. You said Larry The Cable Guy.
Amanda Leehan
Not Larry the Cable Guy.
Spencer
You just mean the Cable Guy.
Shane
You mean the Cable Guy with Matt Burr?
Amanda Leehan
Because, wait, isn't his name Larry the Cable Guy?
Spencer
No, no, you're thinking of.
Amanda Leehan
What the hell?
Shane
You're thinking of Blue collar comedy. You're thinking of Mater from Cars.
Amanda Leehan
No, I hate when my brain crosses over and makes it real.
Spencer
It crossed over so much that I didn't. I didn't clock it.
Shane
I'm sitting here like Larry the Cable Guy.
Amanda Leehan
My brain does that and I can't stand it.
Shane
That movie is really the Cable Guy. That movie's really good. It's also got Jack Black in it.
Spencer
Whoa. Did Ben Stiller direct that?
Amanda Leehan
I don't know, but he's an excellent director.
Shane
He did direct it.
Amanda Leehan
Oh, my God. I've been calling it Larry the Cable Guy a lot.
Spencer
There's a part succession, severance and the.
Shane
Cable Guy and the Cable Guy. It is Pen Stiller, but I laugh really hard when they're at medieval times. That.
Spencer
That scene I've never seen.
Shane
Funny.
Amanda Leehan
Well, I won't watch it with you because I never want to see it again.
Shane
Speaking of bugs, there's an incredible shot where he's on the phone with Matthew Broderick. And the whole premise of it is that he's a cable guy who comes over to Matthew Broderick's to fix his cable and then becomes obsessed with Matthew Broderick and wants to be his friend.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah.
Shane
So bad that he's like.
Amanda Leehan
It's like Single White Female.
Shane
But it is actually terrifying. It's a scary, scary comedy. Very similar to Severance.
Amanda Leehan
Very scary.
Shane
But there's a part where Jim Carrey's on the phone with him and he's just, like, talking in his, like, crazy Jim Carrey way. And a real spider crawls across Jim Carrey's face. And it's so good. It was fake and it was not.
Amanda Leehan
Was it real?
Spencer
Yeah, it was. The arc had corrupted him.
Shane
Unless I'm making that up in my head, but I'm pretty sure that's a scene.
Spencer
No, that sounds like a. There was so. There was that movie of Jim Carrey that I wasn't allowed to watch and then I wasn't allowed to watch, so I married an axe murderer.
Shane
Oh, that movie.
Amanda Leehan
Wrong Mike Myers.
Spencer
But I. But I was watching, like, every other Mike Myers. I was like. I was like, oh, well, I love Wayne's World. I love Shrek and Austin Powers.
Amanda Leehan
Bit of a scary movie, I guess. So I married an axe murderer, I guess.
Spencer
And that was Kind of the movie. My parents were like, oh, we're not gonna get that one.
Shane
It's another one where I wonder if I rewatched it now, if it would be as good. But it's like, it's so near and dear to my heart. And that's another one that my family loves. Like, we quote it.
Amanda Leehan
What's that amazing actor? She's British. She's in so much. I think her name's Fiona. She was in, like, the Most recent True Detective. She was in Killing Eve. She was you.
Shane
We've already marked this bingo spot of you being like, who's that actor?
Amanda Leehan
Damn it. She has a role. And so I married your ex murderer. And it made me and my sisters cry.
Spencer
She's in Killing Zoe. Or Zoe.
Amanda Leehan
Killing Eve. Killing Eve. Oh, killing Fiona Shaw. Fiona Shaw. This woman. She's in. So I married an axe murderer.
Shane
Oh, and. Oh, you're saying about the Mrs. Dudley.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah, and she's all.
Shane
Or Mrs. Dursley.
Amanda Leehan
Super flirty. And I still.
Shane
She's a great actor.
Spencer
Mrs. Dursley from Harry Potter.
Shane
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's her.
Amanda Leehan
That's her.
Shane
Yeah. She's an incredible actress, but she's in.
Amanda Leehan
So I Married Axe Murderer. And it is the.
Shane
I didn't realize she was in that.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah.
Shane
Moving on. What do you guys think? I think there's a. There's a movie opinion that I think is. There's a clear answer. What is the greatest movie trilogy ever made? It's. It's obvious. There's one. There's one answer. Yeah, it's Lord of the Rings.
Amanda Leehan
Return of the King is best.
Shane
Do you have a different opinion? Do you think there's a trilogy that's better than Lord of the Rings?
Amanda Leehan
It's not the Matrix, because. The Matrix.
Shane
No.
Amanda Leehan
Fourth one.
Shane
No. Well, the Matrix. The third Matrix movie sucks.
Spencer
Third Matrix movie is not as good as I want.
Amanda Leehan
Then the newest one is for the fourth one.
Shane
We can just take things in trilogies. Right. So if someone wants to argue that the original Star wars trilogy is the best trilogy that can exist on stars.
Spencer
I mean, my favorite is probably the Indiana Jones original trilogy.
Shane
I love. I love them. I think Temple of Doom is a little weak at times.
Spencer
Temple of Doom's actually my favorite.
Shane
I know people say that I respect.
Spencer
Is the Dark Souls, two of the Indiana Jones films.
Shane
That's a very good comparison.
Amanda Leehan
Wow.
Shane
Amanda would agree.
Spencer
When did you last watch it?
Amanda Leehan
I didn't really watch Indiana Jones. Like, I didn't grow up on Indiana Jones.
Spencer
I was I was sorry.
Shane
We watch those all the time.
Amanda Leehan
But I love the ride at Disney. It makes me laugh.
Spencer
So it's a fun ride.
Shane
It's a fun ride.
Spencer
And, you know, most of the. The music in that ride is from Temple of Doom.
Amanda Leehan
What?
Shane
Yeah, it's very inspiring.
Amanda Leehan
Of Doom is the one where the ball.
Spencer
Like, that's Raiders Lost art.
Shane
That's right. Lost Ark.
Amanda Leehan
Totally got it.
Shane
Raiders Lost Ark is the best. It is a through and through perfect movie.
Spencer
Last Crusade, if you rewatch it, it's very silly.
Shane
It's a lot more silly than I thought.
Spencer
Very slapsticky.
Shane
Temple Doom and Last Crusader.
Amanda Leehan
But you still don't think that that's a better trilogy than Lord of the Rings.
Spencer
Lord of the Rings is the best trilogy.
Shane
It's the best trilogy ever made.
Amanda Leehan
It is the best.
Shane
It's argued. I would argue that that was the peak of, like, movie spectacle and the way the industry has gone since then, we're just not gonna get a movie of that caliber ever again.
Amanda Leehan
Here's the thing. I know that this is also maybe gonna be like, a hot take or I think the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy. It's just Christopher Nolan, who directed the three. I think those are so good.
Spencer
They are incredible.
Amanda Leehan
Batman Begins. Batman Returns.
Shane
It was Batman Begins. Dark Knight. Dark Knight Returns.
Spencer
No, Dark Knight Rises.
Shane
Dark Knight Rises. Dark Knight Rises is the reason it's. And that's. And that's unfortunate because I think. I think the passing of Heath Ledger, like, shifted the course of that trilogy.
Spencer
That was one of the, like, most grumpy I've ever been walking out of a movie was Dark Knight Rises.
Shane
I was bummed, too. It's really unfortunate. His directing is good no matter what. Right. Like, it looks.
Spencer
The music's great.
Amanda Leehan
It's unfortunate.
Shane
So much is great.
Spencer
Bane's fun.
Shane
They're. They're. I think that's why it's a frustrating movie is because it's like, man, so much of it was executed properly. It just.
Spencer
All the stuff like Talia.
Shane
Yeah.
Spencer
Even like Catwoman was like, there's no movies.
Amanda Leehan
I agree.
Shane
There's nothing that pisses me off more when a movie is good in so many ways, but it's just missing the mark a little bit.
Spencer
You know, it was when. At the end, when she's like, oh, you should go by, like, your first name, or Robin. I think. I think at that point, had I had a hat.
Amanda Leehan
Who played Robin? Again?
Spencer
It was Joseph Gordon Levitt.
Shane
Yeah.
Spencer
I would have. I should. I would. If I had had, like, a hat. I would have taken off, thrown on the floor and stomped on it.
Amanda Leehan
A hat.
Spencer
Like a very.
Amanda Leehan
I would love to see Spencer in the theater with like a coat.
Shane
You're wearing your fedora for the whole movie.
Amanda Leehan
Mmm.
Shane
No, I agree with stuff like that cuz it shifted in tone from Batman Begins in Dark Knight so much.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah.
Spencer
So I also rewatched Batman Begins. Granted, this is probably five or six years ago. I was like, this is not as good as I remember at the time. I remember seeing that shit in theaters and I was like, this is. I was.
Shane
Yeah, no, cuz like, I love Batman.
Spencer
But as soon as like Killian Murphy put on the mask for the first time and he's like, oh, like, yeah, like the prisoners don't like this. He's like, oh, like they think the mask is scary and what's that actor's name? Tom Something Hardy. No, he plays like Tom Hardy Falcone or whatever.
Shane
Julia Roberts brother.
Spencer
No, that's Eric Roberts.
Shane
No.
Spencer
Yeah, Tom Wilkinson is playing. He's like. He's like. Because he's. He's put. Let me, Let me set the scene. He has been captured by Batman and then turned over to Scarecrow. Thomas Crane. What's his name?
Amanda Leehan
Oh, I know.
Spencer
He's been turned over to Killian Murphy and he's been placed in the. And he's like pleading insanity and he's like, oh, like I'm like scared. Like the walls are closing in. And then like Killian Murphy's like, oh, like I'm gonna do like a little exercise with you. And that's when he puts on the Scarecrow mask for the first time.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah.
Spencer
And it's like he, like. He sprays him with like the Scarecrow gas.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah.
Spencer
It's like the trippy gas was like, this is so. Because I had come from my Batman movie growing up was Batman and Robin, which I fucking love. Oh, George Clooney.
Amanda Leehan
George Clooney. George Clooney is one of the worst movies ever. Is an epic. Batman and Arnold Schwarzenegger is Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Spencer
Uma Thurman. So sexy.
Amanda Leehan
Poison Ivy and Jim Carrey.
Spencer
That's the Joker.
Amanda Leehan
All right.
Shane
Batman begins has a 3.8 on letterbox.
Amanda Leehan
I loved Batman.
Shane
So not bad. I.
Spencer
It's. I still like. I see what you're saying. Memories of it.
Shane
I see what you're saying.
Amanda Leehan
There's no other trilogies that I can really think of that that does compare to.
Shane
Back to the Future trilogy is really good. Well, the Godfather's close, but the third one sucks.
Amanda Leehan
Third one sucks. The second one personally is the best one.
Shane
Oh, yeah.
Amanda Leehan
100.
Spencer
Guys. I think something that's come around in the years is the original Spider man trilogy.

Shane
Whoa.
Spencer
I think people have re examined Spider Man.
Shane
You're saying Spider Man 3.
Spencer
Sam Raimi's Spider man films.
Shane
No.
Spencer
1 and 2 are like bonafide clothes.
Shane
Absolutely.
Spencer
And 3 is like, good enough to. Where it doesn't ruin, like, rewatch three. And I think you will see it falls more in line with the. The first two than like, you realize.
Shane
I get. I get that. But it's still just like has.
Spencer
Has time has been kind.
Shane
What other trilogies, though? What other trilogies? Because I feel like the third never sticks the landing. And I feel I'm gonna. Maybe I'll get some hate for this. Maybe not. But like original Star wars trilogy. Like the first one, Return of the Jedi's Return of the Jedi. When you watch. If you watch all three of them back to back, Return of the Jedi, just like it's the same.
Spencer
It's another one where it goes full slapstick.
Shane
Yeah. And it happens a lot.
Amanda Leehan
Do you think is. Was that a different director? See, that's the thing.
Shane
I think I thought Return of the Jedi was George Lucas again.
Spencer
No, it was. I don't know. It was some rando. Because the first one's George Lucas, second one's Irving Kirschner, Aaron Kushner. And then the third one is.
Shane
It's crazy how you just have this knowledge, like, you just know.
Amanda Leehan
I love it. I love it. I will say when another director comes in, I mean, I know we were talking about the Mission Impossible movies. They're not a trilogy possible. Is the only time the second and the. The third was. That was a totally different director. And they are like drama, like, super.
Spencer
Because the first one's Brian De Palma who's like making like a bonafide, like, crazy intense, like, sexual spy thriller.
Shane
Yeah.
Spencer
And then two is John Woo who's like, I'm gonna. I'm.
Amanda Leehan
Exactly.
Shane
And that shit rocks.
Spencer
And John Way worked.
Amanda Leehan
And it worked. And it was so good. Totally different Mission Impossible.
Spencer
There are.
Shane
There are three movie segments of the Mission Impossible series that could contend for, like, best trilogy. Right. Because, like, you have. Is it five? And then Fallout, and then.
Spencer
And then Dead Reckoning Part one.
Shane
I mean, those are. Those three are bad.
Spencer
If they stick the landing on this eighth one, the. What is it called? Like, Final Reckoning, like, I think it's called.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah. It's where he hangs onto a plane and it's really happening.
Shane
It could certainly contend as, like, that's the best run.
Spencer
Yeah. If it's not good, something's going to happen to me.
Amanda Leehan
I. I think it will be good.
Spencer
But, you know, once Christopher McQuarrie took over, because it's. It's. I mean, the. The director line.
Amanda Leehan
So good at director names.
Spencer
Well, because the third one's J.J. abrams.
Shane
Abrams, wow.
Amanda Leehan
And J.J. abrams did Star Wars. Star Wars.
Spencer
And then the fourth one is Brad Bird, which I would argue is even crazier.
Amanda Leehan
I don't know.
Spencer
Brad Bird did, like, Iron Giant, Incredibles. It was his first live action movie.
Amanda Leehan
Which one did he do? He did four, which is. Oh, right before. Is that right before Reckoning?
Spencer
No, no, this was. This was the one where.
Amanda Leehan
This is after John Woo stopped. John Woo.
Spencer
Didn't he do two and three? No, John Woo did two. Three is J.J. abrams. Four is Brad Bird. Five, and on is Christopher McQuarrie.
Amanda Leehan
Guys, I will say the best thing you can do, if you're sick or anything, rewatch all the Mission Impossibles in a row. It is excellent.
Shane
No, they. They rock.
Spencer
That's, like, why, When I saw. Because, like, I recently. I recently twote that I wasn't a fan of. I saw Top Gun Maverick finally, and I was like, this wasn't as good as I want it to be. It was because the Mission Impossible is refreshing my mind that I'm like, these are so complete.
Amanda Leehan
It's not as.
Spencer
They give you a little of everything, like, true.
Shane
But. But. But it was still Top Guns. A different vibe. Top Gun's a totally different.
Spencer
It was close enough to the vibe of the new Mission Impossibles, where it was kind of encroaching on that territory. It was like, well, now I just want Ethan Hunt.
Shane
I get that.
Spencer
And I want his team of. I want the IMF to come in and stop this.
Shane
I get that.
Spencer
But still Mission Force.
Shane
But speaking of different directors, because that's what fucked up the sequels for so many people of Star wars is you have. You have J.J. abrams, then you're in the casting. And I like both those directors, which kind of sucks.
Amanda Leehan
People went way too hard on Hayden Christensen about the prequels. I'm talking about the prequels. Yeah, that was all George Lucas.
Spencer
George Lucas is all.
Amanda Leehan
Oh, I'm not talking about the directing in that. I'm talking about the casting in that. People. People really harsh on Hayden Christensen, which.
Spencer
Is like, okay, but the prequels is what happens when you do prequels. Well, no, it's. To me, it's what happens when you let someone control the entire pipeline of like, no one was telling him. And episode one, two and three. Because I like, it's been such a.
Shane
Weird thing though, because when I was a kid, when I was a kid and Star wars prequels came out, my brothers were older than me and like, so all the discourse was just hating them. They were like, these suck.
Amanda Leehan
I still went to theaters and watched.
Shane
But now, now the way people talk about them online, they're like beloved classics, I think.
Spencer
Yeah.
Amanda Leehan
I think it can't be.
Spencer
When you're.
Amanda Leehan
I guess we'd like the kids. I think they're like cultural.
Shane
Maybe that's more. It is.
Spencer
But I mean, one, when I saw it, because I was probably what? It came out 99. So I was eight years old.
Amanda Leehan
The prequel.
Spencer
Yeah, the first episode one. Yeah. So I was like, this is the best movie I've ever seen. I did this is like. I'm like, this is. Not only is this like old Star wars, like, I'm like, well, not only does he have a lightsaber, he has a lightsaber with two sides. Yeah, the pod race. Like, I was like, this movie is the best movie ever made. And I saw it probably like five or six times. Times in theaters.
Shane
No. Eight year old me definitely was loving the Gungan palace and everything.
Spencer
Battle for Naboo. Like, the.
Shane
Is that. When I thought about that I dreamed about that.
Amanda Leehan
Anakin was really. Is that when Anakin.
Shane
Jake Lloyd.
Amanda Leehan
Little.
Shane
When he's a little kid and Natalie Portman's like, Liam Neeson feels like 10 years old. No, it's very trippy. The casting was strange where it's like, all right, we're gonna cast this boy who looks way younger than Natalie Portman, the love interest.
Amanda Leehan
No, I know.
Spencer
Oh, we were just. Because we were crunching the numbers because she's like. She is like five or six years older than him. And then when they cast Hayden Christensen, he's older than Natalie Portman. So it's just like. Yeah.
Shane
And yeah, it's been cool to see Hayden Christensen. The hate that he got back in the day was immense.
Amanda Leehan
Well, he came back and then did a scene with Ian McGregor.
Shane
Yeah. So he kind of like, people, like, love him now.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah, people.
Shane
People come back around.
Amanda Leehan
So much hate. I was like, okay, he got a.
Shane
Stupid amount of hate. Well, that's been the trend with Star wars is the actors get all the hate when they do nothing.
Amanda Leehan
They're just like vessels. They're doing the best. I will say the chemistry between him and Natalie Portman was a little. It's a little funny to watch.
Spencer
Oh, they're.
Amanda Leehan
It's a little.
Spencer
They're low key, bad.
Amanda Leehan
It's a little awkward. It's pretty awkward. I think that's what it is.
Spencer
You're like, John Williams is, like, carrying those movies on his back.
Shane
Yeah.
Spencer
And like, the whole, like, production, like, the designs of, like, the designs and the prequels are like, some of the best designed, like, so pretty ships. Like, all the sound design is incredible. The music is like, I would say almost just as good as, like, the old ones. And then you have, like, the acting.
Amanda Leehan
They're just chemistry.
Spencer
And the dialogue, like, it's. It's.
Shane
It's just kind of.
Amanda Leehan
The chemistry has to be so good.
Spencer
For my point of view, the Jedi are evil.
Shane
Wow. Dude.
Spencer
Wow.
Shane
Anakin did nothing wrong.
Amanda Leehan
Hot take.
Spencer
I mean, that's what Anakin says when they're fighting on Mustafar. He's like. From my. He's like. He's like, like, he's like. I don't remember what Obi Wan says, but Anakin's retort is. Is from my point of view, the Jedi are evil.
Amanda Leehan
Wow.
Spencer
And it's like, whoa.
Shane
It's like, hey, man, but you killed a bunch of younglings.
Amanda Leehan
So what's wild is Star wars is, like, still pumping.
Shane
Oh.
Amanda Leehan
Like, Ryan Gosling is apparently in a new show that's coming out. I mean, I am just. I am just. I am tired. Andor. I think Andor is really good show, but like, like, I'm.
Shane
I'm genuinely tired andor kicks so much ass. But I will say, watching it, it's so well done and so well written that it's hard for me to now, like, be like, okay, this takes place in the same universe, I know, as all these really glow up shittos.
Amanda Leehan
Glopu fricks.
Shane
Diya.
Spencer
Luna's good.
Amanda Leehan
I mean, he's such a good actor.
Shane
That show is amazing.
Spencer
He's sexy too.
Amanda Leehan
He's so, you know, he's E2 Mama Tamien.
Spencer
Yeah, his voice. Oh, yeah.
Amanda Leehan
Sexy.
Spencer
He's.
Shane
He is really good.
Spencer
Let's think about Diego Luna.
Shane
Everybody's sexy.
Spencer
Take five for Diego.
Shane
Andor is a sexy show.
Spencer
I do kind of want to watch season two because I fell off of season one, but when they added back in, like, the only part of Rogue One I liked, which was Krennic. What's. His face? I can't.
Shane
No, he rocks.
Spencer
He's the Australian guy. He's. Are you watching season two?
Amanda Leehan
I'm not watching season two.
Shane
He's the main bad guy.
Spencer
He's the main bad. He's the main bad guy in Rogue One. What's that, Ben?
Shane
I don't know.
Spencer
He's like. You haven't been talking to the cops, have you, mate? He's the.
Shane
He's really awesome.
Spencer
Yeah. Ben Mendelsohn.
Shane
He's.
Amanda Leehan
He's also in Dark Knight, and he's the evil guy in. No, he's also plays the evil guy and. Oh, my God, I hate when I.
Shane
Do this 60 minutes of.
Amanda Leehan
He's with Ren. With. With Kylo Ren.
Spencer
No, he's in Rogue One.
Amanda Leehan
Yes. Now Kylo Ren's not Kylo Ren. No. Doesn't he. Isn't he the bad guy in. Oh, my God. I'm mixing up the movies. Nevermind.
Spencer
He's the bad guy in Rogue One.
Amanda Leehan
You're right.
Spencer
With. With.
Amanda Leehan
With Jyn, not with Kylo Ren.
Spencer
Erso, dude.
Shane
Yeah.
Amanda Leehan
Ben Mendelsohn just did a movie on Netflix, and it was the worst movie ever. And I was like, God damn it, you're so good. I'm done with Netflix bringing in these top actors.
Spencer
Did you ever see Place down the Pines?
Amanda Leehan
Yes.
Shane
Ryan Gosling.
Amanda Leehan
That's where Ryan Gosling met Eva Mendez.
Spencer
Yeah. Yeah.
Shane
Wow.
Spencer
And he made her stop acting.
Amanda Leehan
He didn't make to do anything.
Shane
She chose.
Amanda Leehan
Don't you dare. Yeah.
Spencer
I love her.
Amanda Leehan
Wait. Ben Mendelson has the coolest, like, voice.
Shane
Yeah, he does.
Amanda Leehan
He has a really cool voice. And he did that show Bloodline or whatever it's called, with the original Wicked guy who won the Tony. Leo Norbit or something.
Spencer
It's called Leo Norbit. No, that's not right.
Amanda Leehan
That's not right.
Spencer
He was also in the. He was in the show with Cynthia Erivo, the Outsider.
Shane
Wow. There you go.
Amanda Leehan
Oh, my God. Cynthia Riva's in the outside.
Spencer
She's. She's. What's her face? The.
Shane
Someone's gonna be like, what are you listening to? And people are gonna take out their headphone and go, I don't know. I don't know.
Amanda Leehan
Sorry. The Outsider was a really good show. Had great Promise. And then the ended and I was like, fuck off.
Spencer
I never watched the show, but I read the book.
Amanda Leehan
I watched the show.
Spencer
And then now I might watch it because I didn't realize that Cynthia Erivo plays. What is. What is her name? Not Helen? Holly. Yeah. Holly Gibney.
Amanda Leehan
Wow.
Spencer
Yeah. Anyways, it's all just bouncing up Norbert.
Amanda Leehan
Leo Butz. That's his name. That's the original Wicked director.
Spencer
My ex was Fiero.
Amanda Leehan
That's the original Fiero.
Spencer
My ex one's called Don Cheadle. Bill Cheeto.
Amanda Leehan
Bad, bad Bill. He is not a Bill Cheeto.
Spencer
Bill Cheeto.
Amanda Leehan
He is not a Bill.
Shane
That's gonna be. Someone needs to make a character named Bill Cheeto.
Spencer
I like. It's close. I know who you're talking about.
Amanda Leehan
Okay, I'm switching gears completely because I.
Spencer
So the gorilla?
Amanda Leehan
No, I'm moving on from the gorilla. I was looking up some of my favorites and I looked up what's Eating Gilbert Grape On.
Shane
That's one of your favorite movies.
Amanda Leehan
It's.
Shane
I'm not ask. I'm just. I'm asking. Genuine.
Amanda Leehan
It's like one of my favorite, like, classics. Do I watch it all the time? No Keanu in that?
Shane
No, it's Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp.
Amanda Leehan
Leonardo DiCaprio.
Spencer
I know Leo's because I remember I had that trailer in front of a vhs and I was like, there's no way I'm gonna watch that movie.
Amanda Leehan
Dude, what's eating Gilbert Grape? Four stars. Oh, my God, I hope they burned that wig Johnny Depp had to wear. Four stars. If Gilbert's mom can stay inside for seven years, I think we can all for a couple weeks. This must have been during COVID Oh, my God. Do you remember?
Shane
Yeah, I never seen it.
Spencer
Who plays the mom?
Shane
I don't know.
Spencer
Probably Kathy Bates or something like that.
Shane
No, I have one for. Because it was one of the top movies on letterboxd. Minecraft movie. Haven't seen Chicken Jackie.
Amanda Leehan
People are. You know about all the viral content.
Shane
People been fucking shit up.
Amanda Leehan
It's during the. What you just said, right?
Shane
Chicken Jockey. And everyone throws everything.
Spencer
Ollie's cheering back there.
Shane
Ollie loves going to theaters and fucking shit up.
Amanda Leehan
That's Jack Black and what's his name? Aquaman.
Shane
Jason Momoa.
Amanda Leehan
We should look up Aquaman reviews. Anyways.
Shane
Anyways. Minecraft reviews someone one and a half stars. I got to get a real job, man. Someone left five stars and said. The last time I was this horrified by Minecraft content was when Dream did his Face reveal.
Spencer
Oof. You see, he's got easy drop a new music.
Shane
Whoa.
Spencer
We got a track.
Shane
Someone vidcon Jake said there's a character named General Chungus. Half a star.
Spencer
Ollie, can you confirm?
Amanda Leehan
I love half a star.
Spencer
Did you see it, Ollie?
Shane
There's a character named General Chungus. This is gonna be. This gotta be.
Amanda Leehan
Trevor's fine. You were fine.
Shane
Lastly, someone said someone left a review. Bold move to have both Minecraft YouTubers and a child in the same movie. Three and a half stars.
Spencer
General.
Amanda Leehan
I will not be watching this.
Shane
That's fair. Someone. I pulled up Twilight. Someone said, Robert Pattinson wasn't acting. That's just how he is in real life. Three stars. Someone else said, this is the most unintentionally funny movie of all time. 3 stars.
Amanda Leehan
I will say I re. Because Peacock re Released them. I will say I rewatched it and it was very hard. It was very hard to watch. And I was a Twilight fan.
Shane
Yeah.
Spencer
Team Edward.
Amanda Leehan
Well, now that you watch it, you're like, none of that.
Spencer
Okay. But like, at the time. Which way?
Amanda Leehan
At the time, you were.
Shane
Jacob.
Amanda Leehan
Jacob.
Shane
Yeah.
Spencer
I think that was Jacob.
Amanda Leehan
I was not Edward. Sorry.
Spencer
I think that was common. Like, I think that was very common.
Amanda Leehan
Jacob was. Now I watch and I'm like, both of them are unhealthy.
Spencer
Yeah. Yeah.
Amanda Leehan
But back then, Jacob was.
Spencer
To me, we have, like, the groomer and the gaslighter.
Amanda Leehan
The groomer.
Shane
I've never thought of Twilight that way.
Amanda Leehan
Who's the gaslighter?
Spencer
Jacob.
Amanda Leehan
Jacob, Right. Of course.
Spencer
He says crazy shit to her, dude.
Amanda Leehan
He does. And both of them. You watch it now and it's very crazy.
Shane
But then in the very. And then in the very final movie, Jacob switches around and becomes the groomer.
Spencer
Yeah.
Amanda Leehan
And then. Yeah.
Spencer
You either die a gaslighter or live long enough to see yourself become the groomer.
Amanda Leehan
Jesus. That's a good review. You need to do more reviews.
Shane
Oh, God. That's the review you should leave on letterbox.
Spencer
You need to do so when I. When I leave letterbox reviews. This some Shane had talked about briefly yesterday. I do want to inject. Like, not inject. I need to stop saying inject. It's such a potential. It's such a pretentious word. Like, I want to inject a little, like, sentiment. Like, but I do want to include. Because I love a joke. I love, like, to do a bit.
Amanda Leehan
But you want to include real.
Spencer
I want to include, like, a real. Like, if I have a legitimate criticism of it or, like, legitimate praise. Like, I do want to give a movie its laurels in a sincere way. Because. Because I think a lot of these reviews just like kind of fully. They almost treat the movie as like disposable. Where it's like haha. Like, like.
Amanda Leehan
I know, like it's like months and months of shooting. So much money.
Spencer
It's like this is like someone dedicated. It's like I'm trying to think of an example from the previous one where it's like, oh, like you know, he rescued the shit out of that arc.
Shane
But like there are legitimate reviews in there, but the top ones are always like.
Spencer
The top ones are always like jokes. And I think that does kind of maybe not diminish the platform, but it does. It's seen kind of as like a meme platform.
Shane
I get that. And there are.
Spencer
I use it. I think my primary thing is to use it to catalog what I have been watching.
Shane
I for sure.
Amanda Leehan
Oh, you save what you've been watching.
Shane
To come back around to something we were talking about earlier. I've smoshed the movie, pulled up.
Spencer
Fuck yes.
Shane
What do you think?
Spencer
It's.
Shane
It's. What do you think it's average rating?
Spencer
2.4. No. 1.7.
Shane
You think 1.7. Amanda?
Amanda Leehan
One and a half.
Shane
One and a half. 1.5. Yeah, it's at 1.7.
Amanda Leehan
What did you say?
Shane
I said look, look at the review bar though. It's like a lot of 1 stars. The slope is like the lower.
Spencer
So. So how much of the movie have you seen?
Amanda Leehan
Zero.
Spencer
How much have you seen?
Shane
I saw. We went to the premiere.
Amanda Leehan
You went to the premiere?
Spencer
What was the vibe?
Shane
It was 2015 YouTube up in there. It was crazy. Someone left a review, they said, what the hell Was wrong with 12 year old me? One star. Someone left a half star saying my favorite character was the cat. They blew him up. Someone left a one star review and said, I want to force a small Victorian child to watch this movie. What? Someone Left a hat. 5 star review and said, my grandpa died while I was watching this movie and it ruined everybody's year. This movie. Someone. Someone left five stars and said Criterion really needs to keep up with the real masterpieces.
Amanda Leehan
Oh my God.
Shane
Someone left a five star review saying if Stanley Kubrick was still alive, this movie would be his cause of death.
Amanda Leehan
Wow. People are. They're not really giving like yeah, I want to know reviews. I want to know reviews about the actual movie.
Shane
Someone said one star review. The only time Markiplier and Stone Cold Steve Austin will intersect. Cherish it.
Spencer
Fair. I mean, we can cut this. I might want to ask Ian about this. But there's a picture. The last time was at Ian's house. He has a picture of him and Stonewall. Stone Cold Steve. That's not him. And Stonewall Jackson, the Civil War general. No, there's a picture of him in Stone Cold Steve Austin hung up in his place. And I was like, that's like the best picture ever.
Shane
Whoa.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah, that's very cool.
Shane
There's really no legitimate reviews on this.
Spencer
So I remember again, we can cut this. I remember it used to be on Netflix. I was like, I'm gonna pop this on. Because I was working at Smosh. I was like, I'm gonna pop this on. Just like, yeah, see? I'm like, there's no way it's that bad. It was. It was worse. It was worse than, like, we have.
Amanda Leehan
To watch what's better? That or Ghost, mate.
Shane
Ghost is a better.
Spencer
Probably way better.
Shane
Ghostmates is a better movie. But Smosh. The movies. The movie you want to watch.
Amanda Leehan
I just don't know when I'll have the time.
Spencer
I'm just so. I'm a mom.
Amanda Leehan
I'm gonna be a mom.
Shane
Can I see? What makes Smash the movie really funny is the added context that in real life, like, that's the time when Ian and Anthony were both like, I don't know, what if we're struggling with what we want to do with that?
Spencer
I thought that was Ghostmates was like. Because that's kind of.
Shane
That was. Was. But like, I already know that during Smash the movie, they were already feeling like. Like. Right. Like from the conversations they've had. Maybe I'm wrong.
Spencer
So there's. There is a. And I think I brought this up on when. On the lunch time with Smosh. But there was a time we were shooting a Summer games and it was when we were at like Wet and Wild World. What is that place called? Six Flags Wild World. Hurricane Harbor.
Amanda Leehan
Hurricane Harbor.
Spencer
And they were like, Spencer, you drive them back to the defy office. Cuz they have to get back for like a righty meeting for Ghost mates.
Amanda Leehan
They're like, yes, sir.
Spencer
And I was like, okay, right away, sir. And. And so it was me.
Amanda Leehan
Your hat.
Spencer
Yeah, I took my hat.
Shane
Your feet like a bunch.
Spencer
And so they got into my. My car and. And. And they didn't. I don't think they really knew me very well.
Shane
I know you that well at this point.
Spencer
And so I was. I was driving them back, like the two. Like the two important guys. And they were Trying to. They were trying to break this scene of, like, this teacher. It was like a scene where they're, like, in school. Like, they have to, like, establish something about the teacher. And they were talking about it for, like, 45 minutes. And, like, this is for ghost mates. And I was listening the whole time, and I was like, do I give a suggestion? Do I give a suggestion? And kind of, like, towards the end, I was like, what if.
Amanda Leehan
And I.
Spencer
Like, I thought I had come. Like, I had been thinking about it as they were talking about it. I was like, what if the teacher did this to show that he was. This, this and this. It was like, like. And they're like, oh, okay. And then they. And then they just continued on. And I was like, maybe they. Maybe they liked it. Maybe they. Maybe they're gonna take my own. I've never seen it.
Shane
You don't know.
Amanda Leehan
They just went. Can you lift up the partition, please?
Spencer
Yeah. Yeah.
Amanda Leehan
You're like, I don't have that.
Spencer
I was like, I don't. Yeah, this is a. Press the button and I have that. This is a coupe.
Advertiser
I.
Amanda Leehan
Honestly, if I were you, I would have probably done the same thing. Like, hey, can I. I was like.
Spencer
Y' all want me to, like, be quiet for 45 minutes? That's crazy. I mean. And they didn't. They never. They didn't ask me to be quiet for 45.
Amanda Leehan
You were.
Spencer
But I was. Because I was like, I was. I was.
Amanda Leehan
They were chatting.
Spencer
Yeah, they were chatting about, like, a legitimate movie they were making.
Shane
They were on work hours.
Spencer
They were on work hours. And I was like, who the fuck am I? But I was like, you know, my dumb ass was like, I feel like I. I've got an opinion.
Amanda Leehan
I think your opinions are great.
Shane
They are great. I'm glad that. Hey. They didn't say no.
Spencer
Yeah.
Shane
They were like, okay. Interesting.
Amanda Leehan
I will say I found until dawn the movie.
Shane
Oh, the new one.
Amanda Leehan
The new one that's coming out in 20. Directed by David. Okay. It already came out.
Shane
It's already out.
Spencer
Already out. Already saw it.
Amanda Leehan
Two and a half stars, yo. Why did they make a time loop movie out of the one horror game where you can't retry or respawn.
Shane
Whoa.
Spencer
Now, I've been thinking about this a lot. I'm like, if any game you were to one to one make into a movie, like, I can think.
Amanda Leehan
It's not this one.
Spencer
Well, no. Like it. They. They change it a lot.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah, that's what. That's what people are saying. They're saying Like. Like two and a half stars. More like until. Yawn.
Spencer
That's good.
Shane
Solid.
Amanda Leehan
Finally, a film that captures the unspeakable horror of tap water.
Shane
Nice.
Spencer
Is there something in the waters?
Shane
Maybe.
Amanda Leehan
Spoiler actually pissed me off. Angry face. If you're gonna take the name and a few elements of a game but abandon the story, your version has to be better than the OG but no, until dawn decides to be a repetitive time loop movie where they were the incredibly forgettable characters have to survive the night or else it restarts. Imagine if a Minecraft movie was just about some regular guy named Jeff in the real world working as a construction worker.
Shane
Wow.
Amanda Leehan
This person.
Spencer
Maybe it would be good.
Shane
Yeah, it would be good. Maybe I would see it then. Yeah, we're way over 60 minutes.
Amanda Leehan
Oh, shit. I didn't know.
Spencer
Yeah, I didn't know. I had. I saw the 60. I was like, oh, we got time.
Amanda Leehan
I didn't even see the 60.
Shane
We do technically have time, but no, we try not to go. But that was. Hey, we talked about movies.
Spencer
Hey, we talk. We did it. We talked about movies.
Amanda Leehan
Spencer. We lose time.
Spencer
You guys.
Shane
You guys spend a good amount of.
Spencer
Time thinking about every time you waste my time.
Amanda Leehan
No, it's. It's a compliment.
Spencer
Lose track of time.
Shane
Just like an until dawn, apparently.
Amanda Leehan
Okay. All right, well, that was so much fun. You know, I love talking about movies.
Shane
I hope you guys enjoyed our discussion about movies.
Amanda Leehan
And let us know your favorite trilogy.
Spencer
Yeah, let us know which is better, Ghost Mates or Smash the Movie.
Shane
Which is better, Ghostmates or Smash the Movie? Also, is there a trilogy better than Lord of the Rings? The answer is no. But you can try.
Amanda Leehan
You can try.
Shane
You will try.
Spencer
That's from Return of the King.
Shane
That's from Revenge.
Amanda Leehan
Yeah, I was gonna say that's not Return of the King.
Shane
All right, bye, guys.
Amanda Leehan
Bye.
