100,000 views in seven days. And let me tell you something, that was not the flex because without strategy that would have just been a cute screenshot. 65,000 people reached 4.8 thousand likes 453 comments 1.9 thousand shares 1000 saves from 2 reels in 7 days. Now don't get me wrong, I am grateful. I love visibility. I literally teach visibility. But let me tell you what I think people get wrong about social media. Everybody wants to go viral. Everybody wants the views. Everybody wants people in the comments saying oh my God, you're real. Blew up. But nobody talks about what happens after the views. And honestly, that's the part that matters the most. Hey y'. All, welcome back to Social Media Decoded. I'm Michelle Thames, marketing strategist, visibility coach, entrepreneur and your go to for turning visibility into actual opportunities. And today we're talking about something that I think entrepreneurs really need to hear. Going viral means absolutely nothing if you don't know what to do after the views. And yes, I said it because I think social media got some of us confused. We've made virality the goal. Like if your reel hits 100,000 views, suddenly your business changes overnight. And sometimes visibility can shift things. Yes, social media has changed my life. I was visible online years ago because of that visibility opportunity started finding me jobs, clients, speaking opportunities, partnerships, relationships. So let me be clear. I believe in visibility, but I believe in strategic visibility. Because visibility without strategy will have you feeling successful while nothing in your business is actually changing. You got the views. Cool. But did anybody join your email list? Did trust get built? Did new relationships happen? Did opportunities come from it? Or was it just a dopamine hit? And I'm talking about this because yes, the reels that I posted this week did amazing, but the real flex is what happened after Now. I posted another reel and that reel got reshared by kit. And if you know me, you know I use kit for email marketing. I mean, love kit. Been with it since 2019. And the CEO commented and shared it to his Instagram stories. Their team engaged more people, found me, more trust got built, and immediately my brain shifted into strategy mode. Not, oh my God, I am viral and all these things are happening. No, my thought was, okay, now how am I going to leverage all this visibility? Who do I need to build with? What relationships can I deepen? What opportunities can come from this? Because anybody can accidentally go viral, but can you leverage visibility after the views? That is the real question. Can you turn attention into opportunity? Can you turn visibility into trust? Can you turn content into relationships? Because relationships, that's where the opportunities live. The speaking opportunities, the clients, the collaborations, the partnerships. And I think too many entrepreneurs are posting just to post. No strategy, no next step, no ecosystem. And you know, I say this all the time. Most people are building content. I'm building ecosystems. Meaning when somebody finds me, there's somewhere to go. The podcast, the email list, the community, ways to work with me, more content, a relationship, something deeper. And that's what I want you thinking about. So here are three things you need to do if your content starts getting attention. Number one, build relationships. Immediately reply to comments, start conversations. DM people. Yes, DM people. Relationship building matters. Number two, have a next step. Please stop posting with nowhere for people to go. Can they join your email list, listen to your podcast, work with you, download something, what happens next? And number three, create follow up content. One viral post should lead to more content. Talk about lessons, talk about behind the scenes, talk about what happened, deepen the relationship. So no, a hundred thousand views in seven days was not the flex. The flex was what happened after. The visibility, the relationships, the trust, the opportunities. That's marketing. And that's why I don't just teach content, I teach visibility that creates opportunities. If this episode helps, you send it to another entrepreneur who's been chasing views but really needs a strategy. And if you love this episode, tag me on Instagram michellelthames and let me know your biggest takeaway from today's episode. I will talk to you in the next episode. Peace.

Episode: 100K Views in 7 Days… But That Wasn’t the Real Flex
Date: May 18, 2026
Host: Michelle Thames
This episode of Social Media Decoded centers around the realities behind viral content, specifically focusing on why achieving high visibility metrics—like getting 100,000 views in seven days—isn’t the true measure of success on social media. Michelle Thames, a marketing strategist and visibility coach, emphasizes that the real “flex” is not the views themselves, but what you strategically do after gaining that attention, and how you turn visibility into opportunities, relationships, and long-term growth for your business.
Viral stats shared: Michelle discusses recent metrics: 100,000 views, 65,000 people reached, 4,800+ likes, 1,900 shares, and over 1,000 saves from just two reels in one week.
She acknowledges the excitement but critiques the obsession with virality for its own sake.
“100,000 views in seven days. And let me tell you something, that was not the flex because without strategy that would have just been a cute screenshot.” (Michelle Thames, 00:44)
Michelle warns that many entrepreneurs are chasing vanity metrics, assuming visibility alone will transform their business overnight, when in reality, it won’t—unless paired with a strategy.
Michelle shares her own journey of leveraging online visibility to create opportunities: jobs, clients, speaking gigs, partnerships, and meaningful relationships.
She makes a pivotal distinction: Strategic visibility goes beyond mere numbers.
“Visibility without strategy will have you feeling successful while nothing in your business is actually changing.” (Michelle Thames, 02:04)
She urges listeners to ask, after their content gets attention, whether it led to deeper outcomes: new email subscribers, built trust, sparked relationships, or generated genuine opportunities.
Michelle describes a specific win:
This scenario prompted Michelle to immediately think, “How am I going to leverage all this visibility?”
She highlights the importance of shifting from excitement to strategy—asking yourself, what relationships can I deepen? What opportunities can I unlock?
“Anybody can accidentally go viral, but can you leverage visibility after the views? That is the real question.” (Michelle Thames, 03:38)
Many entrepreneurs post without guiding their new audience to a next step—Michelle stresses the value of designing an “ecosystem.”
Her system ensures that when someone discovers her, there are pathways: podcast, email list, community, ways to work with her, and more.
This ecosystem approach fosters genuine relationships and meaningful business connections.
“Most people are building content. I'm building ecosystems. Meaning when somebody finds me, there's somewhere to go.” (Michelle Thames, 04:40)
Michelle delivers actionable steps for listeners whose content is gaining traction:
(All actionable strategies summarized from 05:00–06:06)
The “real flex” isn’t views, but the visibility, trust, and opportunities created through intentional action.
Michelle reaffirms she doesn’t just teach “content,” but “visibility that creates opportunities.”
“The real flex was what happened after. The visibility, the relationships, the trust, the opportunities. That's marketing.” (Michelle Thames, 06:18)
For entrepreneurs and creators, Michelle’s key message is to stop chasing views for their own sake. Instead, build systems, foster relationships, and always have the next step ready—because that’s what will turn attention into real, profitable opportunity.
