Welcome back to social media Decoded or if you're new here. Hey friend, I'm Michelle Thames and today's episode is a special one because I just hit 600 podcast episodes. 600. And trust me when I say this milestone didn't happen by accident. People always ask me, how do you stay consistent? How do you show up week after week? So today I'm sharing what 600 episodes has really taught me. The things no one tells you when you decide to start a podcast. And if you've been thinking about launching your own podcast in 2026, stay until the end. Because I've got something special for you. Let's get into it now. The hard truth about podcasting. Let's start here.
Let's start here. Starting a podcast is easy. Maintaining a podcast, that's the hard part. It's not the mic or the tech or the hosting platform. It's actually discipline. Recording when you don't feel like it. Publishing even when you're tired, frustrated, or wondering if Anyone is listening. Podcasting will test your consistency more than any other content platform. And most people quit way before the results show up. Here's what 600 episodes taught me. The real lessons, the ones that matter.
Number one, Consistency beats motivation every single time. You will not always feel inspired, but you still show up. Number two, your best episodes are ahead of you. Your first 20 to 50 episodes, they're just practice. Don't judge your future by your beginnings. Number three, if you don't market your episodes, they don't exist. Sharing once is not enough. Your audience needs reminders, repurposed clips, stories, all of it. Number four, your podcast is a visibility engine, not just content. It opens doors, builds trust, and creates opportunities you didn't even know existed. Number five, Repurposing is how you scale one episode equals reels, carousels, emails, quotes, blogs, stories. Podcasting should make your marketing easier. Number six, you have no idea who's listening. People binge in silence, and they reach out when you least expect it, with partnerships, speaking opportunities, and clients. Number seven, the only way to fail is to stop. 600 episodes didn't come from talent. It came from commitment. The mindset shift. Here's the real secret. I decided my podcast wasn't optional. It became a part of my identity. I'm someone who shows up. I'm someone who records even when no one's clapping. I'm someone who treats my podcast like a business asset. That identity is what got me here, not motivation. If you want to start a podcast in 2026, here's my advice. If you're ready, don't overthink the setup. It's not complicated. I record in my bedroom. Focus on one clear topic and audience. Create a simple recording schedule that you can stick to. Have a plan for marketing each of your episodes. Don't aim for perfect. Aim for publish. And if you want to stay consistent, build a system before you build a podcast. If this episode inspired you and you're ready to launch your own podcast in 2026, I've got something special.
