The bro marketing world is built on fake scarcity, urgency timers, cold DMs, and promises that rarely deliver. But here's the thing that doesn't work for us. I've tried it all. I followed the templates, use urgency hacks, and you know what? The results never felt right. My audience tuned out. The sales went down. It wasn't until I started selling the way I wanted to be sold to like a human that that everything shifted. Now here's what happened when I changed my strategy. My engagement doubled, my DM conversations turned into clients without awkwardness, my launches started to feel easy, My clients began to refer others and I've seen this work for my clients too. One of my coaching clients used my Teach first pitch second strategy and landed three new clients from one Instagram story I Another one of my clients saw her best sales month ever by simply sharing more social proof and less hard pitching. Now here's where the good stuff comes in. Get your pins and notepads ready because gems are about to be dropped. I am sharing with you my five authentic sales strategy. Here are the exact sales strategies I use and teach for sales that feel good and work. The first is teach first, pitch second. Start with value, break down a myth, answer a question, or give a quick win. Make your audience say if this is what she gives away, what must her paid stuff be like? The second thing is to flood your feed with social proof now. Share screenshots, testimonials, before and afters, and yes, maybe even your sticky note wall. People buy what they see working for others. If you celebrate a big win, that is huge, right? When they see you win big or small, celebrate it publicly. Number three is stories and DMs are where the sales happen. Your Instagram feed is what builds awareness, but your stories and DMs that's what builds trust. Use things like polls. Who wants to link to this question and answer what's your biggest struggle? And voice notes to connect one on one. Number four is soft, consistent call to actions. You do not have to shout by now and instead invite. Want my system DM me fix for the results. Make an invitation, not a command. And the fifth thing is to make it safe and relatable to buy. Share behind the scenes of your process, talk about your own hesitations and wins and normalize the journey. When people feel safe, seen and understood, they want to work with you. Let me guess, you've been showing up on Instagram trying to be consistent, but your stories? Crickets? Here's the thing. Stories sell when you use them, right? So I created a free mini guide called the $200 a day story Strategy to help you start turning views into conversations and conversations into cash. Inside, I give you the exact framework that I've used to sell out offers using just Instagram stories and voice notes. No ads, no pressure. Grab it for free at the link in the show notes or DM me the word story S T O R y on Instagram. Your content is powerful. Let's make it also profitable. Now here's for my action takers. All right, take action now. This week, answer three dms with a voice note. Show up as you authentically post a Friday receipt story celebrating a client win or your own win. In your next post, teach something for free before you mention your offer and replace Buy now with DM me for more info. Or let's chat about your now. Episode: Bro Marketing is Dead: 5 Authentic Sales Strategies for Entrepreneurs (2025 Update)
Host: Michelle Thames
Release Date: June 25, 2025
In this empowering episode of Social Media Decoded, host Michelle Thames delves deep into redefining sales strategies for entrepreneurs, challenging the conventional "bro marketing" tactics that have long dominated the scene. With a focus on authenticity and genuine connection, Michelle shares actionable strategies to transform how business owners engage with their audience and convert leads into loyal clients.
Michelle begins by addressing the prevalent issue in modern marketing: the over-reliance on aggressive and impersonal sales tactics often referred to as "bro marketing." She critiques the use of fake scarcity, urgency timers, cold DMs, and hollow promises, emphasizing their ineffectiveness and detrimental impact on audience trust.
“The bro marketing world is built on fake scarcity, urgency timers, cold DMs, and promises that rarely deliver. But here's the thing that doesn't work for us.”
— Michelle Thames [02:30]
Having experimented with these strategies herself, Michelle shares her personal journey of disillusionment when she noticed her audience tuning out and sales dwindling despite following conventional methods.
The turning point for Michelle came when she decided to adopt a more human-centric approach to selling. By aligning her sales tactics with how she prefers to be approached as a consumer, she witnessed remarkable improvements in engagement and client acquisition.
“It wasn't until I started selling the way I wanted to be sold to—like a human—that everything shifted.”
— Michelle Thames [04:15]
This shift not only doubled her engagement but also made sales conversations with clients feel seamless and non-awkward. Additionally, her client base began to organically refer others, showcasing the power of authentic interactions.
Michelle outlines five key strategies that form the backbone of authentic sales, each designed to foster trust and genuine connections with the audience.
The foundation of this strategy is to provide value upfront before introducing any sales pitch. By sharing knowledge, debunking myths, answering common questions, or offering quick wins, entrepreneurs can demonstrate expertise and build credibility.
“Start with value, break down a myth, answer a question, or give a quick win. Make your audience say, 'If this is what she gives away, what must her paid stuff be like?'”
— Michelle Thames [05:10]
Example: One of Michelle’s coaching clients implemented the "Teach First, Pitch Second" approach and successfully landed three new clients from a single Instagram story.
Social proof acts as a testament to an entrepreneur's credibility and effectiveness. Michelle advises sharing screenshots, testimonials, before-and-afters, and even casual setups like a sticky note wall to showcase successes.
“People buy what they see working for others. If you celebrate a big win, that is huge, right?”
— Michelle Thames [06:05]
Celebrating both big and small victories publicly reinforces trust and encourages potential clients to envision similar successes.
While the Instagram feed is excellent for building awareness, Michelle emphasizes that stories and direct messages (DMs) are the primary channels where sales occur. These platforms allow for more personalized and trustworthy interactions.
“Stories and DMs are where the sales happen. Use things like polls, 'Who wants to link to this?', questions and answers, what's your biggest struggle? And voice notes to connect one-on-one.”
— Michelle Thames [06:50]
By engaging directly through these mediums, entrepreneurs can foster deeper connections and address specific client needs.
Instead of aggressive sales pitches, Michelle recommends soft and consistent CTAs that invite engagement without pressure. Phrases like “DM me for more info” or “Let’s chat about your needs” create a welcoming environment for potential clients.
“You do not have to shout by now and instead invite. 'Want my system? DM me for the fix for the results.' Make an invitation, not a command.”
— Michelle Thames [07:30]
This approach encourages organic interest and makes the audience feel respected and valued.
Creating a safe and relatable purchasing environment involves sharing behind-the-scenes processes, discussing personal hesitations and wins, and normalizing the entrepreneurial journey. This transparency makes clients feel seen and understood, fostering trust.
“When people feel safe, seen, and understood, they want to work with you.”
— Michelle Thames [08:15]
By humanizing the sales process, entrepreneurs can dismantle barriers and build long-lasting client relationships.
Michelle illustrates the effectiveness of her strategies with real-world examples:
Client Success: A coaching client utilized the "Teach First, Pitch Second" method to secure three new clients through a strategic Instagram story.
Sales Milestone: Another client achieved her best sales month ever by focusing on sharing social proof rather than engaging in hard selling.
These stories underscore the tangible benefits of adopting authentic sales strategies over traditional bro marketing techniques.
Wrapping up the episode, Michelle encourages listeners to take immediate action to implement these strategies:
Additionally, Michelle offers a free mini-guide titled "$200 a Day Story Strategy", which provides a framework for turning Instagram stories into profitable conversations without relying on ads or pressure tactics.
“Your content is powerful. Let's make it also profitable.”
— Michelle Thames [09:45]
She also teases the next episode, promising to unveil a five-step content system for building authority and daily sales, reinforcing her commitment to guiding entrepreneurs on their growth journey.
Michelle Thames wraps up the episode by reiterating the importance of authentic engagement and strategic content creation. She invites listeners to connect, share their experiences, and support the podcast by leaving reviews.
“Keep showing up, keep growing and I'll talk to y' all in the next one.”
— Michelle Thames [10:50]
By embracing these strategies, entrepreneurs can cultivate a more engaged and loyal client base, ultimately driving sustainable business growth.
