Today we're diving into one of my favorite topics, digital products and passive income. And not just the fluffy kind. Okay. We're talking real money, real strategy and real stories. And I am excited to be joined by Becky Beach, a million dollar digital product seller, coach and host of the Becky Beach Show. Becky helps women stop trading their time for dollars because who has time for that? And start building digital product businesses that run without ads, burnout or gimmicks. She's been featured in Business Insider and Forbes and today she's here to break down how she went from 9 to 5 to 70k months. Y'. All, I'm so excited to talk about this. Plus how you can start selling your own digital products even with a small audience. You all know how I feel about that. So excited. Let's get into it. Becky, welcome to the show.
Becky Beach
Thanks so much Michelle. I'm really happy to be here.
Michelle (Podcast Host)
Yes, I'm really happy to chat all about all things digital products. I always love to start with the why. What made you decide to leave the 9 to 5 world and dive headfirst into digital products?
Becky Beach
Great question. Yeah, I get asked that a lot because I had a really great career as a senior, you know, user experience designer, you know, website developer, and I was working for American Airlines at the time. But I had a. I felt like a little boy and I wasn't getting to spend much time with him. I would spend more time with his picture on my desk than I was with him. So I just knew, I knew there was something else out there. Like, I just didn't want to have to be chained to this, like, desk all day. And this, it was like a bullpen. Like, it was gray and no windows, no sunlight. Like, I would get up in the morning, I'll come in when it's dark, and I'll leave when it was dark. So I never got to experience the light of the day. It was horrible.
Michelle (Podcast Host)
Yes. Having kids will make us change a lot of things. It will. It will make us do that. So can you take us back to those early days? What was your first digital product? This is exciting. And what was the experience, like, building it? Like building it from Scrat? Yeah.
Becky Beach
Yes. Well, I got started as a blogger because when I was pregnant with my son Brian, I just really wanted to leave the nine to five because I. I knew that I wouldn't get to spend much time with my child before that. I had a really, really great career all through my 20s. I had a child in my early 30s, so in my 20s, I was perfectly happy as a nine to fiver. But then when I became a parent, that, that's when I really wanted to. I wanted something more for myself. So I decided to start a blog. And from there I started growing a digital product business selling printable spreadsheets and ebooks to various. To moms. Like. So I. I specialize in helping millennial moms find success and balance@mombeach.com yes, our.
Michelle (Podcast Host)
Audience is full of moms and creatives, side hustlers and people who are busy. And so what would you say to someone who thinks I don't have time to create a digital product again, like.
Becky Beach
You, you do have the time. You know, I can create a workbook using AI tools in only 20 minutes, and it's super easy. Like, in fact, I'm gonna give your audience a freebie.
Michelle (Podcast Host)
And let's talk about one of your big beliefs is that you don't need paid ads because a lot of people Might think that they need paid ads to build a successful business. What are some of the organic strategies that you use to grow your income?
Becky Beach
Sure. Well, like, I'd seldom use any paid ads. I did run paid ads to like, a summit that I ran. Ended up getting like 120 leads. But mostly I grow organically. I'll join, you know, people, summits and bundles, and I find some. It's in bundles on the Facebook group called Bundles of Bundles with Bree Boucher. And she has a big group full of, like, people will have, like, summits and bundles. You can enter and I'll enter digital products to those summits and bundles to grow my list. And then it gets me traffic to my products organically from my email list. And as well, I'll do blogging content and also podcasting content to drive traffic to my products and membership.
Michelle (Podcast Host)
Oh, I love that. I love that. So I do a lot of that as well. And I love bundles. And so you all, I hope you all wrote that down because Becky is dropping gems here on the social media podcast. Okay. She just gave us a lot of great tools. So you said that was called Bundles of Bundles on Facebook?
Becky Beach
Yes. Bri's a member of my Facebook group too, really good friends. And her Facebook group is called Bundles of Bundles. And you just search bundles in like, Facebook groups and it comes up and she has several members and everybody's posting about their bundles. You could join, like, bundles are like, like a group of people given a digital product and then somebody can sign up to this whole entire group of like, products and then like for free or for, or a paid. And then, then everybody can join your list from this sales page that they get access to once they join the bundle. Wow.
Michelle (Podcast Host)
So this is like increasing visibility. You all exactly what I talk about here on the social media decoded podcast. Right? Increasing visibility. So a way that you can use other people's audiences. Right, because this is what we're doing, right? Using other people's aud and now having a bundle that you are a part of with other creative entrepreneurs, professionals within your niche. Right? Because you're going to go in this group, you're going to search the group and you're going to see which ones fits your niche. Right? Because you want to join things that will make sense. Right. And so then you're going to increase your visibility. Wow, this is amazing. And so the next thing I want to chat about is Instagram chatbots, because I know you use these a lot in automations. Can you explain how that works for your Business and someone that is new, right? We may be new to automation. How do we even get started with automations?
Becky Beach
Oh yeah, great. Well all you all do Instagram reels because Instagram is really pushing reels. They want to, to compete with TikTok because tech talk made these, these short form videos very popular where you record on your phone and you're just like chatting on your phone and then you record like something about your product, get people to sign up. But with this automation you could, you can actually use manychat.com and it has like a free plan to get started and you could tell the person in the video to please, you know, like comments with whatever. Like let's, let's. For instance, I'm, I'm promoting a membership. I say please comment with, with Amazing to get access to my free, my free, you know, freebie or something like that. And then they would comment Amazing and then the Manychat would send them via their DMs access to that freebie. Then they would click to get on my list. You can also, you know, make it so they just put their email in the DMS and it gets sent to your, your email service provider. Like I use convertkit or it's now called kit.com and it will actually put them on your email list without them having to leave Instagram.
Michelle (Podcast Host)
Yes, I love Many chat. I love Manny Chat. I'm a Manny Chat user. You all super easy, right? You can go to manichat.com sign up for an account, okay. Because here's the thing, you use the Instagram, using it for visibility and you want to make sure that you're getting seen. And so what Becky is saying, right, is we're going to tell them to send us a keyword and then we're going to set up that automation so that we can send them the link to join our landing page that leads to the digital products. Wow, it's that easy.
Becky Beach
Yes. And they're, they're really, like I said, they're really pushing these reels. So you don't even need an audience to get found on there. Like. Cause there, there's people like just finding it, you know, because there's like a, a little button that says like it looks like a video icon and they click that and they can see everybody's reels and they could just swipe through and like see everybody's video. So it's like there's, you're really pushing so it's really easy to get an audience. Like I already have 17,000 followers on Instagram.
Michelle (Podcast Host)
Wow. And how, and what was that growth?
Becky Beach
Like, I kind of grow like maybe like a thousand, A couple thousand. Like, like every, every few months. And I got started on Instagram really like three years ago. I really started pushing myself on there and, and getting more traction. So yeah, it just, just takes time and I try to post it at least a few times a week, but it's optimal to try to do a one Instagram video each, each day if you can. And also we'll put that on TikTok as well. On TikTok, I have like 3,000 followers.
Michelle (Podcast Host)
Oh, that's amazing. That is amazing. So let's talk numbers. You've earned over $70,000 a month selling digital products. What are two to three specific things that helped you scale to that level?
Becky Beach
Oh sure. Well, number one has to be AI. Since I've been using AI tools, I've tripled my income. I can create digital products within 20 minutes. Like I'll reveal to your audience in the training that I'm going to give you. And, and it will help you just create workbooks. You could create them to, you know, to get your, your list, get more people on your list. You can create them, you know, to make money. There's, there's just some, these workbooks. You can do journals with it too. Like journals with journal prompts, like really simple and easy. And now what you do, just go to the, the chat or even any writer really. Like there's Claude, that's another writer and you just have it generate a list of prompts for your workbook or your journal. Yeah. And then you just go from there. And I show exactly what to do, like step by step in the video training.
Michelle (Podcast Host)
Awesome. I love that. I love that, I love that. So I want to talk about emails because you said that you send an email every single day and don't care about unsubscribe. So can you unpack that for us? How has email marketing helped you grow and connect with your audience?
Becky Beach
Sure, yeah. I do send an email every day. Like I actually have three different email lists. I run like three separate businesses that are digital product based businesses. And what I'll do is I'll send in one email to one list and then like maybe five a week to this other list and then like three or four a week to the, the last list. And I don't really care when I get unsubscribed because when those people unsubscribe, that means they aren't going to buy from you anyway and they're not interested in what you have to say.
Michelle (Podcast Host)
I.
Becky Beach
Or maybe they're just too busy. Maybe they have too many people on their list and they can't really devote any time to you. So it's for the best. And don't get upset if you send an email out and you're like, oh, I'm afraid to send email because I'm going to get all these unsubscribes. Well, well, don't worry about that. That's, that's like you have to pay for these people. You know, you're, they're saving you money.
Michelle (Podcast Host)
Yes, you're right. Those unsubscribes are only helping us. Right. And so don't be afraid to send an email to your list.
Becky Beach
Right.
Michelle (Podcast Host)
And so I know that you're a mom and a business owner. How do you balance it all?
Becky Beach
Oh yeah, great, great question there. Yeah, I'm really good with productivity. I'll use the pomodoro technique. I'm holding up this egg timer that I got on Amazon. It's a digital timer. And I'll set up for 25 minute time blocks and I'll use my Google calendar and then I'll put in time blocks every 25 minutes. I'll, I'll have something in there and I'll do like blocks of like 4, 425 minute blocks to do like task, like certain tasks. I just know by now how long something's going to take me. Like how many time blocks it will take. And I'll sit over 25 minutes and for five minutes in between I'll get up and stretch. Because sitting down for a really long time, like over 20 minutes or 30 minutes at a time, it can be bad for your heart. So I like to get up every like 25 to 30 minutes just to move around and get the blood flowing and stretch. Because it can be hard to just be seated all day.
Michelle (Podcast Host)
Yes. No, it can just to be seated in one place. Definitely understand that. And what about any mindset shifts or boundaries that is help you grow without sacrificing your sanity? Because I feel like creating all these digital products, creating content, all the things like how do we, you know, set boundaries?
Becky Beach
Well, I, I work within the hours of somebody that works nine to five. Sometimes they'll even just work four hours in a day. Like do a half day is a lot. Like Friday, I'll do a half day. And like during the week if I, I really have like after one is when I do my coaching calls with people. Like one on one coaching I'll have that time set up for that, but if nobody has a call that day, I'll just take the rest of the day off. So I, I set boundaries that way. And after four is when I stop working completely even I even stop any calls during that time. And I'll go get my son from his school. Like right now he's, he's at a day, a day camp for the summer. So then I'll go pick him up at his day camp. And then the weekends I don't work at all. Like, I don't even check my emails. I have like an autoresponder that will send an email to somebody if they try to email me during that time. And because that way it protects my boundaries and I don't work any holidays too. Like I even took the whole day off of July 4th recently.
Michelle (Podcast Host)
I love that because as moms and business owners we feel like we work, work, work and I love that I do the same thing. And I think for getting off at 4 or 5 o' clock and saying, all right, that's the end of the day, we're going to wrap it up. Because you know that your business is still working for you. Like you still are selling your digital products while you sleep. You have the systems, the automations that we talked about here today all set up so that you can continue to build your business, run your business, but also not sacrifice your sanity and spend time with your family. I think that that is like one of the most important things. And why I went into business, right? And I think that you said why you went into business too, right, Is for family and being able to provide for your family, enjoy what you do. Right? Because I can hear, you know, the passion in your voice. And so there's many moms and many people listening that think that they can't leave their nine to five. Now I'm never gonna say like, oh yeah, go and leave your nine to five. Of course have a plan, but know that it's totally possible to do it and you can be at home with your kids. Like you said, my daughter, she's, she's home, she has running camp. I get to see her, you know, every day and talk to her. We get to spend time together, maybe we'll go catch a movie, you know, we can do those type of things. And so I hope that this episode inspires and thank you for sharing your story. And I want to end with this last question for someone who is listening, who maybe feels stuck in their job or unsure how to start like what's your advice for taking the first step towards building a profitable digital product business?
Becky Beach
Well, first of all, you really got to find your why. Like, for you, I'm sure your why is your daughter, and then for me, my why is my son and anybody out there. Maybe your why is you want to, you know, to live in a nice house or maybe you want to go on vacation more. Maybe you want to go shopping more and have more extra money. Like, just think of your why. Like, what exactly do you want and why? What's going to motivate you to create this business? Because it is a lot of work. Like I, I have worked, you know, until my knuckles bleed. Like, doing this, you know, this is not easy. This isn't for the faint of heart. This is for somebody that really wants to, wants to get out there and take action. It's for action takers. It's not somebody that wants to get rich quick somebody scheme, because that's not what, what this kind of business is. So you really got to do a lot of work. You got to be willing to put the work in. You need a why to motivate you along the way. And I use my son as my drive to, to get things done. Like, I, I'm very consequence driven. If, if I'm not, I don't feel like doing something, I go, I don't feel like doing that today. I just want to watch Netflix all day. I'll go, well, if I don't do this, what's going to happen? And I start thinking about what's going to happen if I don't do it. And then I say, I make myself do it.
Michelle (Podcast Host)
No, I, yes, totally. Like, this definitely takes consistency. It takes keeping going when nobody's watching. It takes when nobody's buying, when nobody's paying attention. Right? You gotta show up for that visibility. You can do it in a way that works with your life. It doesn't have to be stressful, but know that it has to be done right. Like you said, Z is key. Thank you so much for that, Becky. This was amazing. I know my listeners are fired up right now and ready to finally get their ideas out of their head and onto products that sell digital products. Can you share where everyone can connect with you, tune into your show and learn more about working with you?
