The Social Media Decoded Podcast, the number one podcast to help you understand social media better so that you grow your business, get more clients and monetize. I'm your host Michelle Thames, marketing strategist, business coach, and your girl for cutting through all of this digital marketing chaos. Today, we're diving into a topic that's going to ruffle some feathers, but I also think it will give you some clarity that you need to succeed. The big, biggest, and I mean biggest marketing mistakes that I see businesses make, and more importantly, how you can avoid them. So listen, I get it. Digital marketing can feel like a minefield. But if you're tired of throwing spaghetti at the wall and praying something sticks, I need you to keep listening to this episode. This episode is packed with straight talk and actionable tips to help you level up. Let's get into it now. These mistakes are mistakes that I have been seeing. And the purpose of this is, of course, to help you avoid these mistakes. So the first mistake is not having a clear strategy. Yep, not having a clear strategy. So you set up TikTok, you got a couple of emails going and maybe even dabbled a little bit in TikTok, but there's no real plan. Does that sound familiar, my friend? The problem with this is that many businesses jump into marketing without a clear strategy. They're doing something, but not connecting the dots between their efforts and their goals. But how do we fix this? Before you post another reel, before you send another email, ask yourself, what's my end goal? Who am I talking to? And how am I measuring my success? If you cannot answer these questions, it's time to pause and create a strategy. The second mistake is ignoring your audience. Okay. Raise your hand if you've ever created content that you thought was amazing but heard crickets. Yep, me too. Been there, done that. But this is before I learned the golden rule of marketing. It's not about you. The problem is that businesses focus too much on what they want to say and not enough on what their audience wants to hear. How do we fix this? We fix this when we start by getting to know our audience, really know them, what are their pain points, what keeps them up at night, and what solutions are they actively looking for? Once you align your messaging with their needs, you'll see a massive shift in engagement and results. So I want to tell you really quickly about my one on one coaching sessions. Okay? If you're ready to finally create a marketing strategy that works, let's chat, friend. Okay. Whether you're stuck on social media, email, or scaling your business, I'm here to help. You can head to the Show Notes to check out that one on one session. Let's make it happen. Or you can DM me over on Instagram at Michelle L. Thames. So the third mistake I see is not showing up consistently. So here's the thing. Consistency isn't sexy, but it's necessary. Imagine dating someone who calls you once a week, then disappears for a month. Would you trust them? No. And your audience feels the same way when you ghost them. And the problem with this is that inconsistent posting leads to lost trust, lower engagement, and missed opportunities. How do we fix this? We fix this by creating a content calendar that works for you. Whether that's posting three times a week or daily. The key is to show up consistently so that your audience knows you're reliable. They know you're reliable. And if you need a content calendar, DM me the word content calendar on Instagram. I have a free content calendar for you. So you don't have any excuses, my friend. Any excuses to create this content. The fourth mistake is that we're obsessing over vanity metrics. Okay, I hate to break it to you, but likes and followers don't pay your bills. They're like junk food. They feel good in the moment, but they will not sustain you. The problem with this is that businesses chase likes and followers instead of focusing on metrics that matter, like conversions, engagement, and return on investment, which is roi, my friend. How do we fix this? We fix this when we shift our focus to meaningful metrics. I want you to ask yourself, how many leads am I generating? Are people clicking on my links and most importantly, are they converting into paying customers? Right? And the fifth mistake. Okay. Is trying to do everything yourself, my friend. News flash. You're not a one person marketing department and if you're trying to be, you're setting yourself up for burnout. Real talk. Okay. The problem is that entrepreneurs try to handle every aspect of their marketing, often leading to mediocre results and exhaustion. How do we fix this? We fix this when we delegate where we can. Whether that's hiring a va, outsourcing content creation, or booking a one on one call with me to create a streamlined strategy. You'll see faster and better results when you stop trying to do it all alone. Stop trying to do it all alone. You don't have to. Right? So I hope this episode was helpful for you. Today, my friends recap. The biggest marketing mistakes I see are not having a clear strategy, ignoring your audience, being inconsistent, chasing vanity metrics, and trying to do everything yourself. The good news is that every single one of these are fixable. Starting today, my friend. If you're ready to stop making these mistakes and start leveling up in your marketing, I love to help.
