This is Michelle Thames and you're listening to Social Media Decoded, the podcast where we talk about what actually works in visibility, marketing and brand building without blaming platforms or chasing trends. Today's episode might ruffle a few feathers because I keep seeing posts like the algorithm hates me, Instagram is dead, my reach is trash, and I'm going to say something clearly and respectfully. The Instagram algorithm isn't broken. Your strategy is. And I don't say that to be harsh. I say it because once you stop blaming the algorithm, you actually regain control. So today we're going to talk about why blaming the algorithm is the fastest way to stay stuck, what Instagram actually rewards right now, and why clarity will always outperform trends. Go ahead and get your pens and your notepads ready because gems are about to be dropped now. Why blaming the algorithm is lazy. Yep, let's start here. Blaming the algorithm feels good because it removes responsibility. If the platform is if the problem is the platform, then there's nothing you can do. No strategy to fix, no decisions to make, no clarity required. But here's the truth. Most people don't want to hear when everyone says the algorithm is broken. But some people are still growing, converting and getting clients. The algorithm isn't the issue. What I see over and over again when I audit accounts is this. No clear positioning, no clear audience, no clear message. People are posting consistently but randomly. They're visible but forgettable. They're active but unclear. And then they blame the algorithm. The algorithm didn't hide your content. People didn't connect with it. And that's an important distinction. What the algorithm actually rewards. Let me simplify this. Instagram rewards human behavior. No hacks, not sounds, not trends. It rewards watch time, saves, shares, replies, profile tabs. And all of these come from clarity and relevance, not creativity alone. Here's what I notice immediately. When content underperforms, the message is vague. The audience isn't clearly defined. The content doesn't answer a real question. There's no reason to engage. Meanwhile, content that performs well usually does one of three make someone feel seen, make someone think differently, make someone take the next step. The algorithm follows attention. Attention follows clarity, not trends. Why? Clarity beats true trends every single time. Trends are not strategy. Trends are amplification tools and only work when there's something clear to amplify. I've seen accounts jump on every trend and still struggle. I've seen accounts post simple, clear content and build momentum fast. Why? Because clarity compounds. When someone lands on your page, they should immediately know who you help, what you're known for, why they should stay. And if they have to guess, they leave. And no algorithm can save that. This is why I focus so much on audits. Because most people don't need more content. They need a clearer foundation. Quick pause. If you're listening to this and thinking, okay, this is hidden, I might need another set of eyes. That's exactly why I offer Instagram audits. If you want clear, honest feedback on what's actually blocking your visibility, you DM me the word audit A u D I t on Instagram. My Instagram is Michelle L Thames. No fluff, no guessing, just clarity. And if you want ongoing support, strategy and proximity, that's what the collective is for. All right, back to it. What to fix. Instead of complaining, instead of asking, why isn't the algorithm pushing my content? Ask, is my message clear? Is my audience obvious? Does my content invite engagement or just broadcast? Most visibility issues come down to misalignment, not suppression. The algorithm doesn't need you to be louder, it needs you to be clearer. And clarity is something that you can control. So let me leave you with this. If Instagram feels hard right now, it's not because the platform is broken and it's because your strategy needs refinement. And that's good news, because strategies can be fixed. If you want feedback on your account, DM me the word audit. If you want daily insight into visibility, strategy and community, go ahead and follow me on Instagram. Ichellellthanes and if this episode gave you a different way to think about visibility, share it with someone who keeps blaming that algorithm. This is Michelle Thames and you've been listening to social media decoded. I cannot wait to talk to you in the next one. Peace.
