And now for a bit of breaking news. Between your breaking news with me, the Geico Gecko, here are some things you ought to know today. People who switch their car insurance to geico save about $900 a year. Experts are calling that nice to know. Also, plants can hear when bees buzz. My ficus just heard that. And finally, animal experts have confirmed that goats have regional accents. I'm getting a hint of Irish there.

It feels good to get good news. It feels good to Geico.

Hey everyone. Welcome back to the podcast. If you're new here, welcome to Social Media Decoded, where we talk about visibility, personal branding, and how entrepreneurs turn their content into real opportunities and income. I'm your host, Michelle Thames, and today I'm actually getting ready to head to powertable Live this week in Florida. And I want to talk about something that has completely changed how I move in business. Not content, not strategy, but rooms. Because if I'm being honest, some of the biggest opportunities I've ever had in my business did not come from posting. They came from being in the right rooms. So get your pens and your notepads ready because gems are about to be dropped. Let's talk about why I invest in rooms. Let's start there, because I know how people think about this. Why would I pay to go to an event I can just network online? I'll just figure that myself. I used to think that too. But what I've learned is this. You cannot shortcut proximity. You can watch content all day. You can listen to podcasts all day. But there is something that happens when you are physically or intentionally in a space with people who are moving at a different level. The conversations are different, the energy is different, the expectations are different. And it forces you to elevate my real life example. Let me give you an example, because this is where it gets real. I met Taylor Smith on threads in 2024. We did not meet at a big conference. We didn't have some formal introduction. We connected because of perspective, because of how we showed up. And that connection turned into a real Relationship, not just we followed each other. A real relationship. I ended up speaking at her event in last year, powertable Live. She ended up speaking at one of my events last year. And from there she sent me opportunities. She's opened doors. She's connected me to rooms I wouldn't have been in otherwise. And that is what people don't understand. Opportunities don't just come from what you know. They come from who you're connected to. And more importantly, who is saying your name in the rooms that you are not in. What I expect from rooms. Now, let's talk about this. Because I don't go into rooms passively. I don't show up thinking, let me see what I can get. I show up thinking, who can I connect with? Who can I support? What conversations can I be a part of? Because when you lead with value, you naturally create opportunity. And I also go in expecting growth, not comfort growth. I expect to be stretched. I expect to hear things I need to hear. I expect to be around people who will challenge how I'm thinking. That's the point. How rooms create opportunities. This is the part people don't see. It's not always instant. Sometimes it is. Sometimes you meet someone and next week something happens. But a lot of the times it's layered. You meet someone, you stay connected, you support each other, you build trust, and then one day your name comes up in a room and you were not even there, but the opportunity still finds you. That's what rooms do. They expand your reach without you having to do more. The bigger shift. If you're listening to this and you feel like you've been doing everything on your own, trying to figure it out, posting consistently, but not seeing the opportunities that you want. This might be your gap, not your content, not your effort. Your proximity. Content gets you seen, rooms get you paid. So if you're listening to this and thinking, I need better connections, I need to be in the right rooms, I'm tired of doing this alone. Dm me the word room and I'll send you what I'm doing this month. Events, opportunities, ways to actually get in spaces where things happen. Because this is not something you have to figure out alone. And honestly, you shouldn't. If you enjoyed today's episode, make sure you follow the podcast and leave a review. And if you're on Spotify, answer the question. For today, thank you so much for being here and I'll see you in the next episode. Peace.
