Hey, it's Michelle Thames and welcome back to Social Media Decoded, the show that helps entrepreneurs and creators get visible, get paid, and grow without burning out. Okay, today's episode is a juicy one because we're talking about the real reason my event sold out. And it wasn't ads. Yep, I ran one Eventbrite ad. It technically brought in one signup, but that's not what moved the needle. What actually filled every seat was relationships, trust, and emotional equity. Months of showing up for my community long before I ever asked them to buy a ticket. So. So if you've ever wondered how to sell out of your launch event or offer without relying on ad spend, this episode is your blueprint. Let's talk about the power of organic momentum and why Community will always outperform campaigns. Let's start with the myth of ads. Now, don't get me wrong. Ads can work. They can accelerate visibility, retarget audiences, and scale what's already converting. But here's the secret that nobody tells you. Ads don't create momentum. They amplify it. If the energy, trust, and connection aren't there first, you're just paying to show cold people your link. When I decided to host Elevate and Empower Live, I told myself I'm going to prove that I can sell out this event organically first. So, yes, the truth about ads. Let's get this out of the way first. I love ads. They have their place, they're tools, but they're not magic. When I set up my small Eventbrite ad, I thought, let's just, you know, keep testing this. I've been testing Eventbrite ads. They've been working well for me. And it bought in one ticket sale. Just one. The trust was already built. Didn't Create the the ad didn't create the conversion. My relationships did. People weren't clicking because of the headline. They were showing up because of connection. You can't out advertise a lack of trust and you don't need a big budget when your brand is rooted in relationships. Let's now let's talk about what actually worked. Here's what really drove the momentum behind elevating Empower Live. Number one Community conversations before conversion Weeks before the event was public, I was already talking about visibility, collaboration and connection. Themes that align with the experience. I didn't need to scream buy tickets because my audience was already emotionally bought in. Number two, the soft list strategy. Before I posted anything public, I DMed and texted my inner circle women who've been in my community, clients, collaborators. I said, hey, I'm doing something big in Chicago and I thought of you first. Ten spots sold that way. Zero ads. Just alignment. Number three Momentum through moments. Instead of blasting flyers, I shared moments, venue walkthroughs, sponsor meetings and sneak peeks of behind the scenes. People love to witness the journey. When they feel a part of it, they become advocates, not just attendees. Next, the relationship Marketing blueprint. This is good. All right, let's break it down. The three relationship driven steps that truly sell out offers, not ads. Step one is Earn emotional equity. People invest in people they trust. Show up with value long before you ask for anything. Host free trainings, share resources, celebrate others publicly. Every act of generosity becomes a brick in your visibility foundation. Number two, Humanize your marketing. Behind every DM is a real person. Talk to them. Like it. I voice note people, I send thank yous, check in on past clients. That authenticity is rare and that's why it works. Step 3 Leverage your platform strategically. I don't need to post 10 times a day. I layered my message in podcast episodes, LinkedIn articles, Instagram stories, and email updates. All sharing pieces to the bigger story. By the time I announced tickets, my audience already knew the vibe and the value. Now let's go behind the scenes. Here's what I don't usually share. Okay, I had a tracking spreadsheet for warm leads Whenever someone engaged deeply with my content. If they commented DM's emails, I noted their name and interest. It helped me see who was already leaning in. I also sent private audio invites. Instead of mass messages, I recorded quick voice notes like hey, I thought of you for this event. That personal touch matters. I also mapped out my timeline backward from the event date. Every piece of content had a purpose, trust, interest, conversion, community that's why it looked effortless. That's the difference between visibility and strategy. So yeah, I ran an ad and it did nothing. But the work that I did months before the ad, that's what filled the room. Your relationships are the real marketing engine. Your community is the algorithm you control. If you're planning a launch, a program or an event, creating don't just build a funnel. Build friendships. If this episode resonated with you, share it with someone who needs the reminder that authentic marketing still wins. And if you're ready to build authority and community the same way I did, join me inside of Elevate and Empower Collective, my private space for multi passionate women growing with strategy, structure and support. I will be opening the doors soon. The link is in the bio for the waitlist. Until next time. Keep showing up, keep serving. And remember, you don't need ads to be seen. You need alignment. I will talk to you in the next one.
