Here's the truth. It is not about the number of followers. It is about the quality of your audience. And they're your ideal clients. Do they engage with your client? Your content? Are they actually interested in what you're selling? The quality? If not, your follow account is just a vanity metric. If none of those things matter, it's time to refocus. Hey hey. Welcome to the Social Media Decoded Podcast, the Go to podcast for entrepreneurs and business owners who want to grow their brand, increase visibility and make more money without the overwhelm. I'm your host, Michelle Thames, marketing strategist, business coach and the person who's here to give you the real no fluff strategies to help you succeed online. Each week I bring you expert insights, actionable tips, and real talk about what's actually working in social media and digital marketing. Whether you're just starting or scaling the six figures, you're in the right place. So grab your coffee or Matcha if you're like me and let's dive into today's episode. All right, let's keep it real. Everyone wants to grow on social media, but most people are going about it all wrong. If you've ever thought I just need to post more and I'll blow up, going viral is the only way to grow and if I had more followers, I'd have more sales then this episode is about to rock your world. So get your pins and notepads out because you already know gems are going to be dropped. And because the truth Social media growth is not just about getting more followers. It's about getting the right followers, creating content that actually converts, and understanding what really works in 2025, not just what looks good on paper, friend. So today we're going to debunk some of the biggest social media myths that are keeping you stuck. I'm going to break down the real strategies that actually work and and give you the tough love friend that you need to stop wasting time and start seeing real results. So let's get right into it now. Let's talk about the lies that you've been told because people are out here telling these lies about social media growth. Here's a fact. According to sprout social, 79% of consumers say that they bought something because of a brand's social media presence, but not because they went viral. Yet I see entrepreneurs fall and business owners and brands alike for the social media myths every single day. Like more followers equals more success. I hate to break it to you, but having 10,000 followers who don't engage or buy from you is completely useless. I would rather have a thousand loyal engaged followers than a hundred thousand random people who never interact. Here's the second lie we've been told you need to post every single day to grow. This makes my head hurt because posting daily with no strategy is like throwing spaghetti at the wall and hoping something sticks. The truth is consistency is important, but quality matters more than quantity. Focus on creating high value content that resonates. Batch your content so that you don't burn out friend and engage with your audiences instead of just posting and ghosting. That's one thing you already know. I've talked about that on the podcast all the time. No posting and ghosting. I've seen accounts that post three times a week and grow faster because these the post the seven days a week with boring content. Okay, those posting seven days a week can have boring content work smarter and not harder. Here's the third lie. Going viral will solve all of your problems. I know that it looks exciting when someone's real or TikTok blows up friend, but here's the truth. Going viral does not mean more sales. Here's the truth. I want you to know that virality without strategy leads to followers who do not convert. And if your viral content isn't connected to your business goals, it will not bring in customers. So that's why I've always Sometimes I laugh and say you can post about cats, but if your business has nothing to do with cats, you're going to get off these followers who are not going to bring in conversions. Instead of chasing vanity, let's focus on content that builds trust and authority. We want to nurture the audience. You do have so that they actually turn into paying clients. Now let's talk about the real strategies that actually work. Go ahead. And I know you're writing this down, niche down and speak to one person. One of the biggest mistakes I see you trying to talk to everybody. We can't do that. Here's the action step. Get super clear on who you are talking to. Ask yourself, who is my ideal client? What are their major pain points in their struggles? And how can I create content that solves this problem and speaks directly to them? The more specific you get, the easier it will be to attract the right people. The second thing I want us to do is create content that converts. We're not just here to get likes. Likes and comments are real cute. Demure, right? It's cute. But do they translate into actual sales? No. We want to focus on three types of content. This is what I want you to do. Educational. You're teaching your audience. When someone comes to your page, they should see you teaching. You should have content that builds authority. Show people why you are the expert that they need. Number three, you want conversion content. Clearly tell them how to work with you. I guarantee if you go to my Instagram right now. Go to my Instagram. That's the action step at Michelle Themes and tell me if you see these three type of content. The content on my page gets me speaking engagements, people to work with me. When people decide if they want to work with me, they're going to go to my social media and they're going to look and see if I actually do what I say that I'm presenting, right? So if all you do is trend in audio, your audience will be entertained, but they will not buy from you. Like, that stuff is cute, but they're not going to buy from you. And then the third thing is leverage engagement over everything. Because what these algorithms do is they reward engagement. So if you're not interacting with your audience, you are missing out. Here's the action step I want you to take. You can. I know you got 15 minutes of your day. Right? Right. You got that? So spend 15 minutes a day engaging with your audience. Reply to comments. DMS like people's stories, reply to their stories, start conversations. When you reply to someone's story, that is a conversation that has started. Go and comment on other people's content, especially potential clients, and be genuine. Come on, be genuine. The more conversations you start, the faster your brand will grow. And I guarantee you that 100%, I know it to be true. And if you are struggling to grow your Business online and friend. Let's post with intention, not just for the sake of it and friend going viral. That's not the goal. We are converting followers into customers. And we're gonna focus on engagement because it matters more than anything. Let's talk to our audience. So here's your next move. Go and audit your social media.
