Everywhere you look there's another tool, another prom, another app, and another person telling you how AI is going to change everything. And honestly, a lot of it feels overwhelming because while AI is incredibly powerful, I think most people are making a major mistake. They are asking AI questions that AI can't actually answer. Let me explain. Welcome back to Social Media Decoded. I'm your host, Michelle Thames, visibility strategist, community builder and founder of Thames Media. And today I want to talk about one of the most interesting things I saw at the Kit Craft and Commerce Conference. It's called mcp. Now, before your eyes glaze over because this sounds technical, stay with me friends, stay with me. Because this isn't really about technology. It's about getting better answers for your business. And I think this is going to change the way that creators, entrepreneurs and business owners use AI. So get your pens and your notepads ready because gems are about to be dropped. Now let's get into it. Have you ever asked ChatGPT, Claude or whatever AI tool you use? Something like what's the best email I should send this week? Or who are my most engaged subscribers? Or what should I launch next? Or why are people unsubscribing? The problem is that ChatGPT doesn't actually know. Not really. Because ChatGPT, Claude, whatever AI tool you're using does not know your business. It doesn't know your audience. It doesn't know your email list, it doesn't know your subscribers, it doesn't know your customers. It only knows what you Tell it. And that's where most people get stuck. They are asking AI for personalized answers using generic information. That's like asking a doctor to diagnose you without ever looking at your medical records. Yep. Now imagine something totally different. Imagining opening your favorite AI platform and asking who were my most engaged subscribers this month? And instead of guessing it actually knows, imagine asking what segment of my audience should I email this week? And instead of giving generic advice, it looks at your actual list. Imagine asking what lead magnet is performing best, which subscribers haven't opened in 90 days, which subscribers might be ready to buy, which tags are driving the most growth. And getting real answers based on your business, not somebody else's. Your business. That's what kids new MCP connection is designed to do. And I have been loving it. Now here is the simplest way that I can explain it. Think of AI like an incredibly smart assistant without mcp. That assistant is smart, but it doesn't know your business. With mcp, it's like giving that assistant access to your office, your files, your notes, your customer records, your email platform, your customer data. And now suddenly the advice becomes personal, relevant, useful and actionable. And here's the part that really got my attention. It's not just about getting answers, it's about taking action. Because let's be honest, most of us do not need more information. We need implementation. For example, you could ask who are my most engaged subscribers? Then immediately create a segment. You could ask who hasn't opened an email in 90 days? Then create a re engagement campaign. You could ask which subscribers came from a specific lead magnet, then build a follow up sequence all from one conversation. That's where this gets super exciting. And as somebody who has been building an email list for years, this really matters because your email list is one of the few things that you actually own. Social media platforms change, algorithms change, reach changes. But your email list, that is yours. And one of the biggest mistakes that I see creators make is spending all of their energy chasing followers while ignoring subscribers. Followers are borrowed, friend. Subscribers are on. That's why I'm always talking about building your email list. Not because it's trendy, because it is smart. Now here's what I think is really interesting. Most people think AI is going to replace marketers. I do not friend. I think AI is going to make good marketers better. And I think AI is going to help business owners make faster decisions, but only if the information is accurate. The quality of your answers depends on the quality of your data. And. And that's exactly why something like MCP matters because it's connecting AI to your actual business. Now let me give you a real world example. Let's say you're a coach. You could ask which subscribers clicked on my coaching offer but never purchased. Now you have a warm audience. Let's say you're a creator. You could ask which subscribers came from my podcast. Now you know that your podcast who those superfans are. Let's say you're a local business owner. You could ask which segment of my audience has been the most engaged over the last six months. Now you know exactly who to nurture. That is powerful. And honestly, I think we're entering a new era. And an era where AI isn't replacing relationships. It's helping us understand people better, helping us serve people better, helping us communicate better, helping us make better decisions. And that's exciting because at the end of the day, great marketing isn't about automation, it is about understanding people. And the better we understand people, the better that we can serve them. So if you're building a business, building a community, growing an audience, or trying to get more intentional with your email marketing, this is definitely something worth paying attention to.
