Hey, hey, it's Michelle Thames and you're listening to Social Media Decoded, the podcast that helps entrepreneurs, creators and marketers get visible, get paid, and grow with purpose. Today we're talking about something that most people completely skip when it comes to event marketing. The after you've done the hard work, you fill the room, the event is over, the lights are off. But if your audience leaves Inspire and there's no next step, you you've missed the magic moment. Because visibility isn't just about getting people to your event. It's about keeping them connected afterward. So today I'm going to break down how to build a community follow up plan that transforms one time attendees into lifelong advocates, clients and collaborators. Let's get into it. The gap that nobody talks about. Here's the truth. Most event organizers focus on the front end to ticket sales, logistics, speakers, decor. But almost nobody talks about what happens after the event. And that's where visibility is either sustained or lost. When someone attends your event, their emotional energy is at an all time high. They're inspired, motivated and connected. If you don't nurture that spark right away, it fades. So think about it. You wouldn't go on a great date and never text again. So why would you do that to your attendees? Your follow up plan is where real ROI happens. Not just revenue, but relationships. How I learned this the hard way. Let me be transparent. I learned from this experience years ago. I've hosted several events that were powerful. Great speakers, great energy. But when it was over, I moved on to the next thing. I didn't nurture the new faces who showed up. I didn't send personalized follow ups. I didn't invite them deeper into my community. And guess what? A few months later, those connections gone. But when I started working on Elevated Empower Live series, I decided that not this time. This time I would hope so. When I started planning my Elevate and Empower Live series years ago, I decided not this time. This time the post event energy strategy will be just as strong as the pre event marketing because community is the real conversion strategy. Okay, that's the T. Clock it. Okay, let's talk about the community follow up framework. All right, grab your notes. Here's how to build a follow up plan that keeps your event alive long after the lights go out. Step 1 Create the after party energy. Don't let the excitement die within 48 hours. Send a recap, email or video, thank attendees, share highlight photos and remind them of their why your goal is to extend the feeling of being part of something bigger. I even do this for my online events. You all so this can go for online events too. Here's a pro tip. Add a call to action that invites them to stay connected. Whether that's your, you know, your networking call or your community or your free resource. Step 2 Personal touch points = Gold DM People who showed up live love doing this. Comment on their posts. If they share photos or takeaways, say I am so glad you are in the room. Those messages build loyalty faster than any funnel ever could. A funnel could never right Step three Bring them into your ecosystem. Events are top of funnel visibility moments. Your goal is to move them deeper. Invite them to your newsletter, your podcast, your Facebook group, wherever your consistent content lives. That's why I started she Connects, my ongoing monthly networking call to keep the connection alive. After the conference, people buy from people they can stay in proximity to. Step 4 Get feedback. It's marketing data. Ask attendees what they love, what they want more of, and how they found you. This feedback helps you improve and it gives you a marketing language for your next launch. All right, here's some real behind the scenes from my own follow up plan for Elevate and Empower Live. Number one, I already have my recap email written before the event even happens. That way I'm not scrambling later. I'll just plug in the highlights and hit send within 48 hours. Number two, I created my she Connects reminder segment to go to my email list. Everyone who attends the event gets an invite to my next call automatically. Number three I plan to go live the week after the event. Not to sell, but to celebrate. To reflect on what we built together. To thank our sponsors and give people space to share takeaways. That's what turns attendees into brand advocates. So if you are planning an event, a launch, or even a webinar, remember this. The follow up is the future. Don't let all that hard work in when the event does. Keep the energy going. Build systems that sustain connection, not just capture attention.
