FOREIGN.
A
Hello. Welcome back to Jung on Purpose. I'm Deborah Maldonado.
B
I'm Dr. Rob.
A
And we have a really great episode today. For those of you who are thinking of New Year's resolutions, wanting to create something new in 2026. We wanted to have a conversation about manifestation and why you aren't getting the results you really want in life. What's stopping you from truly creating the. The life you want? And it's more than just thinking positive and visualizing. So we're going to get into that today. I do want to remind you before we begin and dive into this episode, please subscribe to our podcast if you're listening to us on one of the podcast services and if you're watching us on YouTube, click the link in the corner and sign up for our channel on YouTube. So, Rob, let's start with what is manifestation? Like, what does that mean to you as Dr. Rob To. As a Jungian Eastern philosophy neuroscience, neuromindra method guy.
B
Yeah. So let's back up a little bit because we want to understand it in the right perspective. So the right perspective is that we're all creative beings. Whether you like it or not, whether you believe it or not, whether you experience it or not, you're creating your world in a very direct way. And this is neuroscience. This is not metaphysics. Neuroscience tells us very directly that the brain is a. It's a simulation machine that creates for us what we call our reality. So you're already manifesting your. Your life, your world, your manifesters. That. That's our gig, basically, as human beings, you're here to create. That perspective then gives us the right understanding of what people mean by manifesting, let's say ab. Nothing wrong with abundance. But when people approach it as I'm not creating and therefore I want to manifest abundance, that's their ego talking, that's their limited self experiencing the mind and the world and thinking there's things out there in the world that I want, I want to possess, I want more money, I want more success, I want cars, I want houses or relationships or even health or even spirituality. We might say spirituality is in India and I need to go get it out there and receive it from a guru. Or somebody so that I can possess it, so I can possess the wisdom. So the ego gives us this framework of the, the very world that we're creating in our mind. It projects it and it thinks it's independent of my mental experience. It's out there, therefore I'm in lack, right? If it's out there, meaning I don't have it in this room with me or in my bank account or in my, in my bed or, you know, whatever relationship is. And so it, it automatically the ego begins with lack. I'm in lack and I lack something. And therefore I want it and need it or, or simply desire it, right? I have a desire for that.
A
I'd like to jump back a little this time too, and talk about what the ego is. So we're on the same page as well. The ego is the sense of I. So if we think of the ego, it contains all of our like, conditioning that we're not conscious of, but it's kind of like the holder of the sense of I, our personal history, all the past patterns that we're bringing into our experience. But the ego doesn't want us to look inward. It wants us to look outward and maybe focus on the conscious level, maybe change the thoughts. It interprets sensory data, so it takes information from the outside and interprets it and personalizes it. Oh, that bank account of mine, of my bank account has this number that meant me something about my worth. I don't have an Mrs. After, before my name. That must be something there. I have not. Didn't get a plus one. I don't have a plus one to bring to the wedding. I don't have a partner, I don't have children or whatever it is we want in relationships. There's the ego's like measuring from that external data our worth, our value, a sense of safety and security. So that's evaluating, you know, what the ego's doing. And it really is looking at what's happening in the present moment. It's not seeing possibility, it's just taking in data. And it compares, it judges, it predicts and protects. So that's not a creative of mind. That is the ego. So here's some questions the ego would ask. Is it here yet? Is it working? Hear that question a lot. Why isn't it working? What does this mean about me? Like, I tried something, I put myself out there, and crickets. What does that mean about me? I'm not working hard enough, there's something wrong with me, my vibration's off or whatever. And then what Do I need to fix? That's what the ego says, what do I need to fix? So now it's very functional. But when it comes to what we call manifestation or creating, it gives us a distorted story of what is really happening.
B
Very much so that distortion, it's not that you're doing anything wrong, it's that. That's the way the ego functions because it's function and it is a function of mind. Like if we, well, when we look at the brain, we do not see a little area called the ego. It just doesn't exist.
A
It's like a little person. It's like the man behind the curtain pulling the strings.
B
It's more that in eastern philosophy. I love the way they put it that there's an E, an eye maker in the mind. And that eye maker gives us a sense of me, right, That I am the one that's deciding these things. I'm the one that is in lack and therefore I'm the one that is wanting to manifest something so that I. It doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong. It simply means your, your mind is functioning perfectly the way it should. The only problem is that that's not who you are, right? It's a big problem in, in that regard. Because when you're, when you're identifying as the I, of course you're going to be in lack because you can't possess things. You can't really hold on to things, right? It's like it's an illusion that the mind creates. It's creating this external experience of the world and then it's thinking, I want to possess these things. I want to hold on to them the way they are. I want happiness, I want abundance, I want relationships, I want health, spirituality. All these things that we want now become objects out there in the world that I need to acquire. So then we get into acting and working really hard and all that good stuff. But we all know the pattern. And the harder you work, the more real abundance appears to elude you because it's not out there. Satisfaction is not to be found in accumulating things. We know from research not not having money makes you unhappy. Everybody knows that being in poverty or in lack makes you unhappy. But acquiring a certain amount of money makes you happier than or happy, but only to a certain extent.
A
And you're actually talking about the ego, not the true self. The ego gets a little happier or feels more safe and secure or. I think most people, it's not about the money, but the fear of the shame around not having it.
B
Yeah. Turned down for a credit card because it illustrates something important. So from the ego perspective, we think if something makes me initially happy or happier than I was, you know, if I haven't enough money, let's say I'm happy, that must mean that if I get more money, I will be happier, right? If I get the double the amount of money, then I will be as doubly happy, happier. I will double my happiness. That is an illusion, and it's, it's a false illusion. Or in other words, it's, it's a cognitive error that we make because we know from research that at a certain point when you have enough to meet your basic needs and, and, you know, pay the bills and have a little extra, whatever it is, then happiness levels off. So even if you're increasing your wealth and money, the happiness level will level off. So you'll be pretty much stuck at the same level of happiness despite increasing the abundance.
A
But I think individually, I think everyone has that point where they feel, they think they're going to feel okay, right? And some people are happy, you know, with lower amounts. And some people are like more. Their set point is a little higher for satisfaction. But it all comes down to if we want to create more. And wherever that level is, if we feel like it's not enough now, we're automatically creating from lack. So the ego is the one that's judging it based on our past experience. So if you grew up in a very wealthy house, you know, making 25,000 a year might not be great, but if you grew up in a poor family that, you know, lived with three other families and you were not eating, some days, 25,000 may be riches for you. So it's really that ego perspective of where that is. But if we come from a place of lack and a deficit, we're always going to keep creating that deficit. So I think that's what happens in our culture is that this kind of need for more than enough all the time, that constant consumerism kind of sets us up conditionally, socially, to never feel like we're satisfied. But it's all a perception from the ego. And the ego is a judger and it sees things in a distorted way.
B
So, and the ego has this also, this function that it's never enough. So regardless of what you acquire from the ego perspective, it will never be enough. So that's why you see people just accumulate and accumulate. It becomes almost like an addiction for them that. I don't know why I need more. I just need it and they, they, they don't feel there's enough still. And they'll continue to accumulate. Now this is a lot of the.
A
Personal development systems are based on our ego, based and building up the ego. So manifestation program, reprogram your ego to be more positive. You are still working from that limitation. You're still working from that delusion that, you know this thing out there is going to make you happy. And that is, is so, it's so sad. I just want to say one more thing. I think this happens in personal development as well. In general. It's that ego never feels enough. So if you're constantly trying to fix the ego, no matter how much work you do on yourself, it'll just feel like a never ending, like, oh, I got to keep, you know, working on my childhood all the time. And it becomes like the ego, fixing the ego. And that ends up getting you like in a cycle of just fixing and just like with money, just getting in a cycle of, I need more, it's not enough. So I'm, I'm not enough. And this money's not enough, this relationship's not enough, this career is not enough.
B
Yeah. So that begs the question, if we're not doing anything wrong by creating this ego, and, and then therefore creating our experience of the world, if we're not doing anything wrong, why is it so bad to, to be in this ego? And it's simply that you're not, you're not the ego. So you're misidentifying, interpreting your human experience very, very severely and limiting yourself. Because if you're not the ego, you're going to suffer. You're going to be at least, at the very least, you're going to be frustrated because you're operating from a limited perspective that is unable to give you real satisfaction, real meaning in your life. Right. The, the ego is always looking for the next thing to fill, fulfill its happiness. And therefore it never reaches a state of tranquility, happiness, peacefulness, because that's not its function. Its function is to seek out problems and to try to help you solve them. So it's a temporary phase of development we can say that needs to take place. We need to develop a powerful, strong ego that helps us survive. But it's a stage and it comes to an end right around our 30s, you know, so there's been some developmental neuroscience coming out that.
A
Yeah, we talked about that in another episode.
B
Yeah, yeah. Around the age 32, we kind of hit a mark, right. And a stepping stone where we go to the next level. And that level is kind of leaving our old self behind. So in other words, we're meant to develop a strong ego, acquire the things that we need to acquire and learn how to do those things. But then at around 32, we're meant to leave that behind. Almost like leaving our youth and our childhood behind and stepping into more responsibility, more understanding of what the, the true nature of the mind is.
A
And I think, you know, you can create from the ego. There's people that really focus on positive thinking. They do their meditations and reprogramming and all that, those things and they create maybe lots of money or find a partner, but it's all from the ego perspective. So eventually it's not going to be like you said, it's not going to be enough. Or what's worse is people get an inflated ego and they start identifying with the results in their life. I am the person that has a successful business. I am the person that has this successful marriage. I am the person that has this beautiful body that's been reshaped through working out. And we start, if we over identify with the ego and this our results in life and what we create, our ego becomes inflated, which is actually not a strong ego. It's actually a sign of a weak ego because the ego's const. It's almost like off balance because now it's so dependent on the external to feel safe. And that is really not a great place to be long term. So we do want to prove to ourselves that we have the ability to create. But there comes a stage, like you said, where we need to create from another place. And for those of you who are feeling that pain, I call it the manifestation shame that oh, I can't do it, something's wrong with me and I'm so positive. And we're, you know, beat ourselves up about not being able to create what we want, when we want it. And you know, my friend over here is doing her visualizations and she had all this money throw into her bank account or she found her partner and what am I doing wrong? And we hear this all the time that people start beating themselves up about it. But I sometimes think that if it doesn't work for us, it forces us to look inward, it forces us to do what you're saying and we hit that level of you know what, let's maybe there's another way. And the reason is that we're, that those things can never make us happy anyway. And we're trying to use the ego to build the ego, which is like, not really helping. I, like, I always think of it as a rushing river and there's a drowning person. The ego is going, I want more of my life. And you jump in with it and you're like taken away with it on this like crazy journey to, to get something, you know, And I've been there. It's, it's very exhausting. You've spent years building success and achieving what others would only imagine. But yet something deeper is calling. So what's the answer, Rob? What is, what is really the key?
B
Let's start with a question. The question then is if we're not the ego, who are we? I, you know, we all kind of have that sense that it's me, right? It, it's me peering out through my eyes and me reaching out for this glass of water. And so there's an I sense in our mind. But if, you know, that's why in Eastern philosophy, you see, a lot of most of the spiritual schools use meditation as a way of quieting the mind to see. Is that true? Is this really me, the one that is thinking? And that little voice that I hear prompting me to do things, is that who I am? So the answer is that we are not that little voice that we hear, although it appears to be our, our own voice, our own internal voice. What we are hearing there is, is really the mind and its conditioning. And it's, it's, it's pointing to survival, first of all, physical survival and social survival or social adaptation, let's say.
A
And when you say based on the assumptions that we have learned early in life, the thinking is that past assumptions kind of like spinning the same narrative pretty much.
B
And its aim is simply to keep the status quo. That's why people get stuck so easily, because they're listening to their ego and believing they are their ego. And therefore the ego is always telling them, if this helped you survive yesterday, just Repeat it and you'll be fine. And so there's this sense of, even if I'm unhappy, if I simply repeat what I did yesterday, I will be okay. So that they. They remain stuck. They feel like, why should I do anything different if my mind is telling me to do this? And it's prompting me to fear the unpredictable? And we all have.
A
And that's why resistance shows up. And sometimes when we hit those walls in our personal growth and in our manifestation, we. We get frustrated, and we are, like, trying to push through, and it's the ego resisting in a way. And what we want to do is push it away. We. We tend to be like, I just want it to show up out there so I could stop feeling this way.
B
Yes.
A
And that is. I think the number one thing I learned from knowing you, Rob, all these years is I used to do that. I used to get so. And I still do sometimes get that, like, frustration. And then I just want the external to show up differently so I can relax or I can let go of this anxiety or whatever it is, and that is the way to keep it going. Maybe if something shows up, it may temporarily subside, but it's still there operating, and it's gonna show up again. And you don't want to feel a slave to the external world. Like the external world is the source of your power. No, you are the source of your power. And I think when we think about manifestation, when we are frustrated, we forgot that we're the source. And I call it spiritual amnesia. That we forget that we're spiritual beings, we're not the ego.
B
Yes. So a practical way to think about that. That if we're not the ego, then who am I? We can use this simple experiment. I like to talk about giraffes just because they're so strange. Right. That you know when you can visualize a giraffe. So if I ask you visualize a giraffe in your mind, just visualize it. Can you see it? You can say no or yes. But who is the observer that looked inside the mind to verify whether indeed there was a giraffe or there wasn't that observer that. That looked in the mind and said, yes or no, that's the real you. That's the true you. So we can say that our ego is like the front kind of person that greets people as they walk into the store, but the. The real owner is in the back in a. In an office in the back, simply observing. Right. So this observer is who you really are. In other Words, you are the observer of your mind experiencing the world. That's a, that's a truer concept that is emerging from neuroscience as well as it's what the ancients taught. It's what the ancient seers that wrote the Upanishads and the Vedas, that's what they, they left for us as higher knowledge. That you are not the ego, you're not the I. There's an eye maker in the mind. But that I is simply like a stand in for the true you, which is the observer. So we call that the Witness Mind. The Witness mind is who you really are, the witness. Because it's, it's like a pure awareness that includes the awareness of what's going on in your mind. So, and I, I feel like we can observe in the mind, we can say, or in awareness we can say that that are, those are objects that are appearing in consciousness. So if the giraffe is appearing in consciousness, we can say that's an object that's appearing in consciousness. We wouldn't say I am the giraffe because I'm thinking about it, right? We would say, no, it's, I'm just thinking of an object. So if we can observe our own ego, like I can hear my own little voice, right? That, that voice that I hear in my head, if I can observe it, that means it's an object and you.
A
Don'T identify with it. You're saying this thought aroused, not my thought, or I am thinking, it's. There's thinking happening or there is a feeling, emotion arising. Not I feel this.
B
That's right.
A
So I think, you know, that comes to mind is that a lot of people will say, Dr. Rob, how is that going to help me create anything with a Witness mind? And I remember you told me about this experiment they did. So here are two reasons. One is they told the experiment where they brought a consultant in and he was there to look at the factory and this actual experiment, I mean actual psychological experiment, and he went into the factory to observe the, to workers and come up with a report on how to make them more efficient.
B
Right?
A
Efficiency. And so. Efficiency, yeah. So build the efficiency of the unit. So he was supposed to just go there, take notes, watch them and give the boss the report and the boss would implement the plan. Well, what's weird was that he didn't even get a plan. And by him just observing, the efficiency increased. So if you think about it is the effortless creating when you're in the Witness. And another thing, I think physiologically that Happens when you are in the witness mind, you're automatically calmer. You're automatically less anxious. It. Like even if you're in a. Worried about something and then you're in the witness mind, it. It changes and shifts your conscious awareness, your experience of it. So it's a very powerful. It seems so passive, like I'm just going to witness my ego. There it is. That's not all you do, but that is just in itself is so powerful.
B
Yes. It goes back to this idea again that we are already creating our world. It's simply that we keep repeating the same pattern of ideas, right? The same pattern of thoughts. And therefore we keep seeing the same pattern in our lives. So whatever you want to change, you have to change internally because you're understanding. Like you you mentioned, right, that if you're not depending on the external to validate you and to give you that sense of fulfillment. In other words, you're not depending on the external to show you through your senses that you are abundant. That or that you're lovable or that you are a good person. You're not depending on the.
A
Or successful.
B
Or successful. Exactly. Then you're imp. Because you're understanding that if I am indeed the creator, if I change my thoughts and. And I can change them by observing them, that whatever I focus on appears to increase. So that I. If I focus on increasing my thoughts of abundance and my sense of self as. As an abundant person, that will then be reflected in the external circumstances. Which is a strange idea for. For most people because they're used to thinking of the ext. Separate from their mind. They think, if I'm observing something out there, right. That's going on across the street, I have nothing to do with that. But that's an illusion. If you're perceiving it, that means it's appearing in your consciousness. It's not your mind not be separate. That's an impossibility. It is your mind that you're observing now what. What that means. Then whatever you focus on, whatever you truly focus on with that non judgmental witness mind, this is key. The ego is judged based on judgment. It's always looking at things in black and white. Is this good for me or bad for me? And it makes very quick rational decisions.
A
And it takes everything like in face value, like the senses are showing me the truth of what's possible. So you get a result and you're like, well, I guess that's all I can have or all I can make. You know, like when it comes to money, or the only relationship I can get when I would, did love coaching, I'd get like, I keep going out with these same guys that don't want a commitment or the men that are, you know, flaking out. And so that's all that's out there. Like the ego makes that blanket assumption that the, this, the pickings are slim. There's not enough really great guys in New York City or I heard it all or in la. And that's what the ego does. It just tells you it misinterprets reality.
B
That's right. So we usually talk about relationships or money, right. But let's talk about health. When you have a pain or an illness or disease, right. What the doctors tell you and what you start to believe is that there's something wrong in your body. Now what that means is there's nothing wrong with that idea, right? And. And kind of it's helping you find a solution for it. But if you understand how perception works and how the mind works, if you believe that and you focus on that, what you're doing is increasing that. In other words, you're increasing the sense of illness, increasing the sense of pain, of discomfort, of illness, of sickness, et cetera. And you repeat those ideas, right, Continuously. Then you simply go down the tubes as you get sick or.
A
Well, you're making an assumption that my body's in pain and then the body has pain and then you get fear around. There was like a fear cycle that we used to teach fear, tension, pain cycle that I used to teach in hypnotherapy, pain management. And you have pain, then you get into fear, which causes tension, which creates more pain, then creates more fear, then creates more tension. And it's just a cycle. And we do that with everything. Like we, we create tension in our bodies, we create tension in our minds, our anxieties about what we want in life. And we just keep that cycle. And that's the ego. And so if we, let's say let's heal the anxiety, that's going to temporarily supp it, but not really deal with it. To really, truly deal with, you have to go right through it. Like, what is this anxiety about anyway? That's where the witness comes in. Because now I can examine it with non judgment, not trying to fix the anxiety, not trying to get rid of it, but understand it. And then through that understanding, it's almost like there's this amazing thing that happens when you witness something and you change your perspective of it.
B
Yeah, it is very powerful. It's probably the biggest power move a human being can make. Because what it does then it allows your higher mind, your, your pure consciousness. Which means it's. Think of pure consciousness as the clay that you're building your world out of. See, in other words, it's the material from which you build and construct your world. It's an infinite source within you consciousness. It's limitless. In other words, it's infinite. It, it has no limitations. Therefore the only limitation is what you're able to accept the responsibility for and create for yourself. So whatever you focus on, and in this situation, like we were talking about health, all you have to do is focus on wellness, lots of wellness and seeing yourself as well. Now I know this is not easy. So I'm not, I'm not recommending that you don't listen to your doctors or do you don't continue your medications and all that stuff. Yes, but you continue to with the understanding that your thoughts are going to play a big role in your health, just as they do in your relationships and in your level of abundance.
A
But wouldn't that just focusing on health negate all the anxiety around your health? You need to deal with the feelings and the things that are arising. I mean you can't just like, just I'm going to be healthy, ignore like the feelings in your body and the things that come up, like almost like washing it away with positive thinking. Right? We want to, we want to do that, but we also want to examine what is happening with. Even the pain has information for us.
B
Well that, that's the key, right? That you want to use pain and discomfort as motivation to focus your mind. In other words, if you understand the principle you're saying, I understand that my thoughts, my, the thought patterns that arise in my mind will create my circumstances. I'm going to use my witness mind to direct them, the thought patterns towards health, wellness, away from pain, suffering. Right. Because if I let the mind do its natural thing, it simply focuses on the problem. Again the. Or if I let the ego do it, the ego will focus on the problem, which helps me kind of define the problem. There's nothing wrong with it. But if, if I am over identifying with the ego, then I'm simply amplifying the problem to where the problem that just becomes bigger and bigger. Right. It's like putting fuel into the fire. Whereas the witness mind has no judgment of good and bad, it simply observes and says I want to move towards happiness, wellness, non pain, you know, et cetera, et cetera. So I'm, I'm using a non Judgmental awareness. It's not splitting things into good and bad. It's simply observing, but choosing to move in the direction of happiness, abundance, health.
A
So how could you clarify? Because how is that not just ignoring the bad and focusing on the good? Just because. I just want to clarify. What you're saying for people is that it's like. Because a lot of people do that. They're like, I just want to ignore the. I not going to get sick or I'm not going to get sicker. I'm going to focus on. Which is great. But we also want to pay attention to the fears that are arising and not just, yeah, ignore them. Yeah.
B
It has to do with the ego. If we ask, what. What is the ego doing? How does it function? So it has a very strict judgment of experiences. You notice people's minds are always discerning whether something is good or bad, whether they like it or hate it. Now, does anything really work that way? Is there anything in life that is black and white? No, it's simply like a judgment that the mind makes because it's like shorthand for do I want to continue to do this or do I want to move away from it? So it works really well as a survival mechanism. If something is pleasant to me or for me, I'm going to repeat it. I'm going to seek it out. I'm going to continue to do it. If something is abrasive, uncomfortable, painful, I move away from it. Now, what does that do in the long run? It saves me. It saves my body. It. It helps me survive. In other words. So animals survive in that fashion because they're able to discern very quickly. Is this painful for me or is this nourishing and adaptive? The, the, the. The witness mind, because it's not judging. It's able to discern things in a more complete way. So there might even be some benefit to paying attention to illness that way. It's not saying it's bad. It's simply saying there's some discomfort in my body, let me pay attention to it. But it's not judging it. In other words, it's not saying I need to get rid of it or it's bad or it's hurting.
A
I was just thinking, like, we don't want to confuse this with fantasizing where someone is like, no, these are. I used to work with a lot of single people, and I would sometimes have people that say to me, you know, they're. They're not dating or not doing anything, and they're in this. I'M just thinking positive and it's just gonna happen and I'm gonna focus my mind on being positive and not letting anything bother me. And it's almost like a. Like they're not allowing themselves to feel disappointed even. And it becomes really more of a wishful thinking, a fantasy thinking.
B
Yeah, no, I'm not saying that. I'm saying.
A
I know you're not. I just.
B
Understanding the higher principles.
A
Yeah.
B
How do we work with the mind? Right. In other words, the understanding comes first. You have to understand this difference between the ego and the Witness mind.
A
So here's a quote I think would be interesting to share at this point. So when we're creating from the Witness, whether it's health, whether it's relationships, whether it's success, the key is really that non attachment. That's when you know you were in the Witness mind versus in the ego mind or your ego's operating in there, taking over your conscious mind. So non attachment doesn't mean that there's non intention. So it doesn't mean you don't care and it doesn't mean that you don't set goals. It means that it's not dependent on your. The external is not dependent on your inner stability. So really the Witness is like when the rains come or the sun comes out, it's like equal equanimity. And you're able to really create in that space. When you're in the pushing something away and grasping for. For what you want, you get split with yourself. You're almost like splitting your energy where if you're in that new not neutral, but it's more of a equal, like not attachment to result. Like I. I don't need these things to make me more I. I'd like to create them, but it's less attached. You have more power. Like you basically are working with all your power versus projecting it out there.
B
Absolutely. Equanimity is a superpower because instead of handing your power over to the external circumstances and saying, I will only be happy when these external circumstances appear, you're taking ownership and you're saying, I will direct my mind and I will be happy right now despite. Or whatever the. The appearance of the external is, I'm willing to accept it as my creation again because we're the ones that creating it. So this understanding of awareness, because that's really what it is, we're simply understanding what is it that I'm experiencing in this human life. Right. So if I understand the field of awareness, then I can see and observe directly in other Words. I'm not, I'm not going by faith. It's simply that I'm not going by the senses.
A
You're not going. It's more of a knowing, like knowing your philosophy.
B
Well, you.
A
You can test it not believing, you.
B
Can test it directly. You can ask yourself, who is the one that is observing my mind? Just like with the giraffe, right? You're looking inside your mind and you're saying, yes, I can see the giraffe there, or no, I can't see it. Who is the one that is observing your life playing out, right? And observing your body and observing. Even if you're Anx, who's the one that is observing your mind? Being anxious. That's the real you. And that awareness is always crystal clear, unperturbed by whatever happens that, that what that does. It gives you the confidence to not buy into the fear. So you're not trying to stop the fear. Or let's say you're not condemning yourself for being afraid. You're simply understanding that my mind is reacting in fear. What do I want to do in this situation instead of reacting as the fear is prompting me to lash out.
A
Fight, or double down, work harder.
B
Right? Exactly. It's a more mature, a more realistic way of being in the world. And it's such a simple thing, but it requires some practice, let's say, to decondition our mind of that idea that we are the ego, that we are the individual I in the body.
A
So really it's. It's practice. And I. People are like, I want to be aligned. You know, how do I create? With alignment. And it says, first you have to work with when things don't show up. That's really the work. The work for people. It's like how you respond to things that aren't working out for you. You start there, you start with your current results. Not, let's just jump over. And what I found too is that in my life and many of my clients over the years, is that the anxiety or the fears or the, you know, things that the reason they thought, what they needed, they thought they needed, like a love for. To be, belong or a love to. For security or money to feel that they made it and they can, you know, have an authority. They. They realize that the motivation they have is really not about having more money or having a partner. It's something about themselves, like a part that isn't fulfilled. And if you can figure out what that is, then you don't need the money out there to do that for you and you're coming from a full cup versus an empty cup. So here are some. Some, like you were saying, these are some ways, as we're wrapping up, some ways to focus on what you want. First of all, visualize clearly what you want. Some people don't even know, like get focused on what do you want to create.
B
Yeah.
A
Think about it and then feel resonance with that image. Connect your mind, body to that image as if this part of you is experiencing it. Take action and release the judgment of timing. Stop checking for appearances, for validation, and remain steady when the externals fluctuate. So it's the practice and so it's not really what you get in the end. Like you get the million dollars, you get the girl, you get the guy, you get the, you know, clean doctor's note. Like you're, you're free from any disease. It's really about your ability to understand your power to create and that you always have been in control. And I think that is what you're really learning. And if you remember that this is about me growing and growing my awareness versus this is about me getting something, then when you're manifesting, it becomes a tool for self awareness versus a tool to just get more stuff.
B
Yes. And again, because if you're simply manifesting and saying I just want more stuff, you're back in ego. Essentially, that itself is ego. It's this idea that more stuff will make you better, happier, fix you somehow. That's the wrong understanding. So it all goes to, it all goes back to this. Do I understand what my experience in life is? Am I really understanding it? Or am I falling for the illusion that my ego creates? And remember, the ego creates simply this illusion that the world is independent of your mind, that you have nothing to do with it, that it's already there. And you're simply like walking onto a stage that's already built and the scene is already happening. That is an illusion. Your mind is creating it. It's filling it with color form, meaning you are the one bringing life to it. And so it's yours. You own the world. You're especially your world, right? You own it. It's up to you to determine what you want to do.
A
We heard when teacher, non dual teacher said there's like 9 billion universes out there. Like every consciousness, individual consciousness, is creating their own universe for themselves.
B
Very much, yeah.
A
And we overlap sometimes and meet each other on the journey, but we're all playing that person out there that feels out there is really just in our mind and our assumptions about that person. So yeah, it's. It's pretty deep. It's not as mechanical as let me think positive. And then my vibration of my thoughts are going to go out into the universe and then the universe is going to bring them back to me. You know, that's kind of a mechanical way of thinking about creating. And it really, when they talk about effortless action, it's when we can be in the witness, that's where all, everything can flow. But when you're in ego, it always feels like you're Sisyphus going up the hill with the boulder rolling down again. It's never enough. So keep that picture in your mind. Are you pushing that boulder up the hill and it's never really getting to the top? Or are you letting go of where that boulder falls or how far it goes? And that's when everything starts to flow. It really is a reverse psychology antithetical. So what we normally think is how we create. It's less Western hard work, get it? Versus just letting go and letting it appear without judgment.
B
No, the ultimate goal of manifesting is to manifest self realization. In other words, that is why we're given the ability to manifest is to manifest our own enlightenment, our own self realization. Our choose the ultimate goal. That's the real gold that is. And the practice, let's say, or the. The way we get there is through working with these life situations of how do I build my relationships, how do I create abundance for myself and my family, how do I stay healthy and wise and centered. All those are the way we practice.
A
The way we get there, how do we dedicate. And so you dedicate all the struggles on your journey to self knowledge and the big self. Not ego knowledge, but ego knowledge too. To understand who you are and the magic of who you are. And that is really the goal. And then if you're so focused on the external, you miss the point and it feels like again, you're never ending satisfaction. But if you get the point, everything starts to be easier. So we hope that helps you today. If you're thinking of goals this year, if you feel like I didn't make all my goals in 2025 and I want to make this next year the best year, we feel you. You know, we all want to create great things. It's because we're creative beings and we have that desire innate in us to create more. It's just the ego hijacks that and makes it about you and personalizes it as about your worth or your security or your value. And has nothing to do with that. So imagine being able to create from a different place of a place of abundance, like you said, Rob.
B
Absolutely. All right.

Jung On Purpose Podcast by CreativeMind
Hosts: Debra Maldonado & Robert Maldonado, PhD
Release Date: January 12, 2026
In this episode, Debra and Dr. Rob Maldonado explore the concept of manifestation from a Jungian, Eastern, and neuroscience-integrated perspective. They challenge the popular “think positive and visualize” approach by delving into the deeper workings of ego, the true self, and what it really means to create your reality. The conversation addresses why many struggle to achieve what they want and offers practical insights into transcending ego-based creation, emphasizing the transformative power of cultivating the “witness mind” for genuine fulfillment, meaning, and self-realization.
[00:42–03:58]
“When people approach it as, ‘I’m not creating and therefore I want to manifest abundance,’ that’s their ego talking... The ego begins with lack.” — Rob [01:55]
[03:58–11:08]
“The ego doesn't want us to look inward. It wants us to look outward... It compares, it judges, it predicts and protects.” — Debra [04:32]
“If you’re constantly trying to fix the ego, no matter how much work you do on yourself, it’ll just feel like a never ending… the ego fixing the ego.” — Debra [11:30]
[12:08–14:17]
“It's a temporary phase of development… we need to develop a powerful, strong ego that helps us survive. But it's a stage, and it comes to an end.” — Rob [12:32]
[14:17–17:48]
“If we over identify with the ego and this our results in life and what we create, our ego becomes inflated, which is actually not a strong ego. It's actually a sign of a weak ego because the ego... is so dependent on the external to feel safe.” — Debra [14:45]
[17:48–23:23]
“We are not that little voice that we hear... What we are hearing there is the mind and its conditioning.” — Rob [18:21]
[20:46–24:50]
“That observer that looked in the mind and said, yes or no, that’s the real you. That’s the true you.” — Rob [21:25]
[24:50–32:36]
“Whatever you focus on appears to increase... If I focus on increasing my thoughts of abundance and my sense of self as an abundant person, that will then be reflected in the external circumstances.” — Rob [25:34]
[32:36–37:36]
“Non attachment doesn't mean that there's non intention. So it doesn't mean you don't care... The external is not dependent on your inner stability.” — Debra [35:37]
[39:03–41:18]
Steps:
“Stop checking for appearances for validation and remain steady when the externals fluctuate. So it's the practice and so it's not really what you get in the end.” — Debra [40:26]
[43:43–45:27]
“The ultimate goal of manifesting is to manifest self realization. In other words, that is why we're given the ability to manifest is to manifest our own enlightenment, our own self realization.” — Rob [43:46]
On the Root of Manifestation:
“You're already manifesting your life, your world... That's our gig, basically, as human beings—you're here to create.” — Rob [01:53]
On the Prison of Ego:
“If you’re constantly trying to fix the ego, no matter how much work you do on yourself, it'll just feel like a never ending... the ego fixing the ego.” — Debra [11:31]
On True Self:
“You are the observer of your mind experiencing the world. That's a truer concept that is emerging from neuroscience as well as... the ancients taught.” — Rob [22:03]
On Non-Attachment:
“Non-attachment doesn't mean there's non-intention... It means that the external is not dependent on your inner stability.” — Debra [35:36]
Debra and Dr. Rob reframe manifestation as an inner journey from ego-driven striving to the deep, creative power of self-realization. The path is not about relentless external achievement, but about cultivating the witness mind, practicing non-attachment, and allowing life’s challenges to serve as catalysts for inner growth. Ultimately, the goal is to manifest true awareness and fulfillment—the foundation for authentic abundance and purpose.
