In my dream, it's a red car, candy apple red convertible with the fans. And I'm driving it. Four years old, but I'm driving it Jack made just for me. Zoom past my little brother past Susie on the corner. Watch out, Suzy, watch out, cutie pie. Everybody's looking. Cause I'm sharp, Jack Sharp car gleaming so fast. I'm dreaming so hard, so vividly that I remember it all these years later. Don't want to get out the bed. I love this dream car that much. So much. But I hear something pulls me awake. I don't wanna be awake. I'm on the second floor of the house. And it's early. Sounds like somebody rustling something. Somebody trying to sneak. Somebody trying to be real careful. Somebody outside. Now I'm scared. I'm scared. But I crawl over to underneath the window and I start to raise my head to look. Slowly, slowly. Oh no. Don't let him see you. Slowly. When I get the glimpse, I almost pass out. It's my pops. In his arms, wrapped in thick plastic is a candy apple red kid's sports car. Convertible with the fins. The kind you pedal. Maybe I do pass out. I know this car. I know what it feels like. I know what it looks like. I know how the left side door opens but the right side does not. I know the license plate says go fast. I know there's a fake spare tire in the trunk. I know the horn makes a beep beep sound. I already know everything. Later that morning, Pops ask me if I can guess what he got for me. I say I don't know what. I'm a liar, but I want to make him as happy as he's making me. Ripping the amazing thing from my dream and handing it over to me wrapped in plastic. As a little boy, I wonder if this happens often. Later, I discover it does not. My name is Glenn Washington. Turns out not all dreams should come true. Spook starts now. Now, now, now, now, now, now. Then our very first storyteller, Jodie Torpy Jody, discovers that it's hard to run from someone you've already seen coming for. You don't understand. Well, you will. Spooked.

There were three of us all together. Two work friends and myself. One of my friends had a gift certificate for a hotel in Denver and we decided that we would take a trip and just have a girls weekend. Somebody had packed a thermos of Bloody Marys. It was just a party on wheels. We were coming from Pueblo, which is about two hours away from Denver and it's over a mountain pass. I had the best car. It was just a small Volkswagen Beetle. It was the middle of December. The mountain pass was snow packed. It was a very slow drive. There was full on blizzard. Fortunately there weren't many cars on the road, but it did take a while to get to Denver. When we arrived in Denver, we got to the hotel, we got settled and we stayed up late talking and then everyone was ready for bed. It's really dark in the room and my two friends are sharing one of the beds and I'm in the other bed by myself. I was in a very, very deep sleep. The dream That I had was that I was alone in my car and I was driving down the streets in lower downtown Denver. It was a very deserted area, like a skid row. It's the middle of the night, it was dark. There's nobody else around, no other cars on the road. There's no sound. And I was stopped at a stoplight. And that's when I looked up and across the street at the diagonal, I see there's a guy standing there, blonde, and he's youngish, probably 29, 30ish. He's kind of a cute guy and he's wearing a green army jacket and he has the collar up and his hands are in his pockets and he's staring at me from across the street. I lock eyes with him and he starts to take a step off the curb and walk toward me in the car. I'm frozen, watching him watch me as he's walking across the street. I'm curious, like, is he going to come over and ask me for directions or ask if I'm lost or if I need help? As he came across the street, I just stayed there, even though the light had changed. So as he gets close enough to the car where he's about a foot away from the door, I start to roll down the window and he pulls a gun out of his pocket. And that's when I wake up from the dream with my heart kind of pounding. I just remember feeling scared, kind of like, oh, grateful. That was just a dream. Nothing bad happened. I just kept it to myself. The next morning, we got up, got dressed, went out, had breakfast, and started our big adventure in downtown Denver to go shopping. And it was all decorated with greenery and big red ribbon and just a nice Christmas atmosphere. Everybody was in a good mood. The sun was out, it was cold, but it was beautiful. Blue sky, crisp Colorado day. But I just couldn't shake the feeling. I still can see the images very clearly in my mind. Him standing there at the side of my car and seeing the gun in his hand. I see that over and over again almost all day. I still don't understand what it means.

We decided at the end of the day that we'd go out to dinner and after dinner we'd try to find a bar and have a few drinks. We started driving around on the downtown streets. We really didn't know where we were going because none of us were familiar with the area at all. The roads were snow packed and there was nobody else on the street. There were no other cars. There were no other people. We were on a dark street. I didn't know where we were. And that's when it started to feel familiar. We were stopped at a light. It was a very odd feeling because I had the feeling if I looked across the street I would see that man before I saw him. I had the feeling that I was going to see him and I turned my head and there he was. Everything was exactly as my dream. The green army jacket, the blond hair, the collar up, hands in his pocket. We locked eyes just like in my dream. He started walking across the street and even though my friend that was sitting in the passenger seat said, Jody, the lights turned green. I couldn't take my eyes off of the man as he was walking toward us. I said, I know that the lights turned green, but there's the guy from my dream. And she said, what dream? I said, the guy, the guy from my dream. I had this dream and he's coming over to the car and I want to see what happens next. As he got close to the Car. My friend said, well, what happens in your dream? I said, he pulls a gun out of his pocket. And both of my friends screamed, a gun. And that was the moment where the reality and the dream world collided. So I stepped on the gas. The light is red. The car fishtails out of there, sliding along on the snow. And I drive out of there as fast as I can. It was nonstop. What was that? Let's find a bar. We really need a drink now. And my friends asking me, walk us through that. What just happened back there? And I don't have any answers. There is a part of me that wishes I would have found out what happened so that maybe it would be complete and I would know and I wouldn't have to think about it or wonder about it. And I still wonder. What was that?

I think everything started when I was 13 years old. I used to have these weird dreams. One night I had a dream where I was crying in my room. And I heard the. The door of my room opening and it was my best friend crying too. For some reason, I stood up and just hugged her really hard. She kept muttering, canela. Canela. That was her dog's name. And then I woke up. I don't remember how much time it passed, but one day my dog was barking at the street, so I went to check on him. I looked more closely to the street and after a few seconds I noticed my best friend's dog there. She was run over by some car. So I went to my room and started crying because I don't like when people see me crying. Then a few minutes later, I heard my door opening and I saw her. My best friend called me crying. And that's when it clicked. My dreams were in fact, visions. I never knew which ones were dreams and which ones were going to come true. When I was 15, I had a really. A really weird dream. I was taking a shower and I put on my pajamas. They were mint colored and with purple spots. Everything seemed normal. So I got out of the bathroom and. And in the window, I could see a man's head. I thought, who is this man? What is he doing there? The first thing that made me freak out wasn't just the fact that there was a man in my rooftop. But the fact that he was wearing a mask, the Jason mask. I don't think he saw me. But I was scared that the back door was open. So I ran downstairs. And when I finally reached the back door, I found it locked. I could see outside. He had now climbed down and was standing on the wall that separates my house from my neighbor. He was looking right at me. Then this man pointed at the floor. And as soon as I looked, I realized that he was not pointed to the floor, but to my dog's camp. I was panicking because I knew this man. He would harm him or even kill him. I really loved my dog. So I didn't even think it through and grabbed the keys and opened the door. So I called him Scamp. Entrap of our Entra. But he didn't move upon nothing. I saw how this man was climbing down to my backyard. The nearer he was, the more desperate I was to the point that I wanted to cry. So I stepped the foot up to try to pull Scamp by the collar. And then this man jumped inside the backyard. As soon as I saw how he grabbed the machete our corner uses and run towards me, I knew he was aiming for me and not my dog. When I tried to close the door, he grabbed it and opened it. And that's when I felt something sharp in my shoulder. He had cut me with the machete. I wake up and I felt really weird. My shoulder, I felt it sore. I was scared because I didn't know if it was going to happen in real life or if it was just a really bad nightmare. But still, I didn't want to take risks. I decided that I didn't want to wear those pajamas with purple spots. Because if I was wearing those pajamas, I felt like it could happen. That night during the day, I grabbed Machete, walked to the living room and hid the machete under the stairs. And from that day on, I didn't let my dog sleep outside. I would let him sleep in the hallway. If my dog wasn't in the backyard, then he wouldn't be able to manipulate me to open the door. But after I had the vision of my death, I stopped having more dreams. Not even a short dream. And it was way more scary. Because if I didn't have dreams, then it means that I won't have a future. Two or three months after that felt like someone was watching us from the distance. My brother noticed this too. I remember that one day we were returning home and one of my neighbors told me that we should be Careful when we had to go out of the house. Someone had been walking through the streets repeatedly. And my neighbor didn't recognize this person. It was just scary. And I was nervous because if this is the person who I think it is, the man from my dream, then he knows where do we live. He knows my house. He knows our routines. He knows when my parents are out of the house. He knows when we are alone. Limu.

At one night, it was about to be 9pm so before going upstairs, my dad asked me to take out the trash. So I opened the front door and threw the trash in the trash bin. And when I was about to return inside, I saw this black figure behind our car. I noticed that he was. That his face was looking through the window. Like he could have a perfect look at the living room, the kitchen and the hallway. If he was looking through the window, then it may be him. So I just. I ran back inside and I told my father. And when he went outside, he. He turned on the light of the front yard and couldn't see anything. He was gone. After that event, I was really stressed. I couldn't stay alone without freaking out. I always looked out the window. I wanted to know if there was someone looking at my house. I finally had my 16th birthday. But I wasn't really happy because my dog woke up really tired. He didn't want to move. He didn't even want to eat. My brother and I were trying to cheer up my dog. But nothing happened. And at the end of the day, my parents took him to the vet. The next day, my parents woke us up early and told us that Scamp had died. Everyone cried. I didn't want to believe it. I had had him since I was 5. I just couldn't imagine a life without him. In fact. But after one month, I was closing the doors and I saw my dog's collar. And then I thought, wait, the vision isn't gonna happen. I stopped locking up the door and I returned the machete to its original place. I felt like I could live more happily even though my dog wasn't with me anymore. That meant that I wasn't going to die. A few days after I realized this, my mother was in the living room watching the tv when all of a sudden, I noticed the news footage. The report was saying that a woman was kidnapped in her house. Now she was dead, and this man was a culprit. The footage was black and white from a security camera in my neighborhood. It looked like the man was trying to break the lock. After some minutes of entering, he came out with a girl and he dragged her to his car. And you could see that he was wearing the Jason's mask. Just by seeing the mask, I knew it was him in the footage. They didn't give him a name. They just called him the Masked Man. His victims were young girls. I panicked. I felt like the earth was so heavy, and I wanted to cry because I thought I had got rid of him. But then all of a sudden, he reappeared again. It was almost two weeks after the news footage when my mother told us that we were going to adopt another dog. My new dog is called Bijou. He is a corgi. My first dog, Scamp, he was really calm and quiet. Bijou isn't like that. In fact, he barks a lot. Now he sleeps in my room. Scamp wasn't allowed before, but this new dog, we let him sleep inside. And it makes me feel safer when. When he's around. If this man ever happens to come to the house, my dog would definitely bark. After several months, I started wearing the pajamas again. And I still use the pajamas even to this day. This means that I'm not afraid anymore. Sometimes I wish I had my visions back again. But maybe it's better this way, so I can experience the future on my own.

Spooked: “I Know What You Did Next Summer - Snap Classic”
Release Date: August 15, 2025
Host: Glynn Washington
Produced by KQED and Snap Studios
In the “Spooked” episode titled “I Know What You Did Next Summer - Snap Classic,” host Glynn Washington delves into chilling true-life supernatural experiences shared by individuals who question the boundary between dreams and reality. This episode features two gripping stories: one from Jody Torpy and another from Silvana, both of whom encounter eerie premonitions that blur the lines between their subconscious and waking lives.
Timestamp: [06:25]
Jody Torpy begins her narrative with a seemingly ordinary trip to Denver with two work friends. Their weekend getaway takes a sinister turn during a deep sleep when Jody experiences a vivid dream:
“I was alone in my car and I was driving down the streets in lower downtown Denver. It was a very deserted area, like a skid row...” [06:30]
In the dream, she encounters a young man in a green army jacket who approaches her car with menacing intent. The tension peaks when he pulls out a gun:
“…he pulls a gun out of his pocket.” [10:45]
Jody awakens in a panic, heart pounding, but dismisses it as merely a nightmare. The following day, despite the festive Christmas atmosphere in Denver, she remains unsettled by her dream’s vividness.
Later, while exploring downtown Denver, Jody’s reality mirrors her nightmare. At a stoplight, she spots the very man from her dream:
“Everything was exactly as my dream. The green army jacket, the blond hair, the collar up, hands in his pocket.” [11:15]
As the man approaches her car, the situation escalates. Terrified, Jody accelerates away, narrowly escaping a confrontation that aligns eerily with her subconscious warning.
“If you see your dream killer in real life, run, don’t walk, run away.” [16:52]
Jody's story serves as a stark reminder of the thin veil between dreams and reality, highlighting how deep-seated fears and premonitions can manifest in unsettling ways.
Timestamp: [17:27]
Silvana shares her terrifying journey with premonitory dreams that foretell real-life tragedies. Beginning at the age of 13, her dreams initially seemed like mere nightmares but soon revealed themselves as prophetic visions.
“I never knew which ones were dreams and which ones were going to come true.” [18:05]
One particularly harrowing dream involved a masked man threatening her beloved dog, Scamp. In her vision, the man equipped with a machete targets her directly:
“…he was aiming for me and not my dog.” [21:30]
This dream precedes a tragic event where Silvana’s dog tragically dies, mirroring the distressing imagery from her nightmare. The recurring presence of the masked man, later identified in news footage as “the Masked Man,” who targets young girls, solidifies the reality of her fears.
“They didn’t give him a name. They just called him the Masked Man.” [24:50]
Despite her attempts to prevent the predicted tragedy by taking precautionary measures, including changing her dog’s sleeping arrangements and safeguarding her home, the Masked Man remains a looming threat.
Silvana’s experience underscores the profound impact that prophetic dreams can have on one’s psyche, blurring the lines between foresight and fear.
Glynn Washington concludes the episode by reflecting on the shared stories of Jody Torpy and Silvana, emphasizing the lingering effects of such supernatural encounters. He warns listeners to heed their intuitive fears:
“Be afraid. So I understand if you prefer not to battle these dark forces and instead enjoy amazing storytelling under the bright light of day.” [29:42]
This episode of “Spooked” masterfully intertwines personal testimonies with the eerie possibility that our dreams might be more than just subconscious musings, leaving listeners contemplating the mysteries that lie between sleep and wakefulness.
Jody Torpy:
“I know that he's going to harm him or even kill him. I really loved my dog.” [21:00]
Glynn Washington:
“If you see your dream killer in real life, run, don't walk, run away.” [16:52]
Silvana:
“I never knew which ones were dreams and which ones were going to come true.” [18:05]
This episode of “Spooked” effectively captures the harrowing experiences of individuals who face the unnerving intersection of dreams and reality. Through Jody and Silvana’s narratives, listeners are invited to explore the possibility that our deepest fears and subconscious visions might hold a mirror to events yet to unfold.
