Welcome to Stronger Today is my inspiring conversation with a true American hero, Jason Redmond. As a former Navy SEAL and wounded warrior, Jason is the living personification of strength, perseverance, and patriotism. So I'm honored to have him on the show. I'm Don Saladino. Let's get Stronger with Jason Red. I would love to kind of just give everyone a little bit of backstory. I mean, I feel like everyone should know who Jason Redmond is, but can you. Can you give a little backstory for those who are just kind of diving in and they don't know?
Jason Redmond (1:14)
Yeah. So I am a average, everyday American. I think you could find me on any block or in any city. A young kid who aspired for something bigger is. Is really it. And I think there's any kid. I mean, you know, there are some kids that aspire to be a ballplayer. There are some kids who aspire to. All of us, as kids, aspire to do something bigger. Mine happened to follow the path of special operations. I came from a military family. Not. Not that my dad served while I was still young, but my dad had served, and it led to stories about all these people in my family. My dad, journey of service. I was always fascinated with, from a young age with special. I'm a G.I. joe kid. You know, I grew up in the G.I. joe generation, so. So, yeah, man. I mean, that was super cool, man. You know, Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. Oh, my God. Secretive cloak world that they, you know, they grew up in. And I was just that intrigued me.

And I learned about the. The Army Rangers, and my dad told me a lot about long range recon patrols. He was familiar with some. Some of the stuff he had done in the Army. He was army airborne. He had jumped out of airplanes, and that's what I was super interested in. I happened to Through a unique set of circumstances, I ended up in the Virgin Islands for a period of time. My. My mom ended up going down there for work, and I ended up going down with her and love the wall. From seven years old, man, swimming in the water down there and started bodyboarding and tried surfing. Stuck to body board a lot more, but I was very comfortable in the water. So when I was about 14, my dad told me about the SEAL teams. He said, you know, you're a good swimmer. There's a group of guys in the military called SEALs, and this is late mid to late 80s at this point. And, you know, no Internet or anything like that. There really was nothing out there about the SEAL teams at that time. They were very secretive. It was very difficult to find anything about them. But my dad said, hey, these guys went through jump school with me. You should look into them. So tried finding stuff out about SEAL teams and couldn't find a whole lot. And there was a guy at our church at the time who had had polio when he was a kid, but he was a military aficionado, and specifically on special operations, he had collected all this stuff. And I happened to mention it, or somebody heard and said, you should talk to this guy. And I did. And he had a decent amount of stuff about SEAL teams. He had collected things. There had been different, you know, magazine articles and stuff, you know, here and there that he had put together about the SEAL teams. And it just, you know, America's premier military maritime special operation unit. Hardest training in the entire military. You know, brutal, legendary for how difficult it was. And. And I wasn't like this, you know, I wasn't like this. I was. I was a GI Joe wannabe is really what I was. You know, I wasn't like this strapping athlete or anything. I was a. I was a runt, man. I was the underdog. I was like. At 14 years old, I was like 95 pounds and maybe 5 foot tall at best. And I don't know what it was, but when I read that, and I was like, wow, toughest train in the military. Like, I was like.
