This episode of Stylish is brought to you by Prime Video's addictive new series, Elle, based on Elle Wood's bougie teenage life in 90s Bel Air before she became that Harvard law student. Watch it now, exclusively on Prime Video.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
This is Stylish, the podcast for all things fashion, lifestyle, brand and beauty. Oh, my goodness, guys, well done. Am I the new head of podcast? Senior producer and talent, Annika Joshua Smith. One day I'll be plumpin.
Annika Joshua Smith
Is that the first time you've done an intro ever? Oh, my God, you nailed that.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Thank you, thank you.
Annika Joshua Smith
Well, you're joined by. Oh, yeah, sorry.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
It's actually Justiana Kishan. No, I'm kidding. I am joined by Naima Fatima and Rhiannon Joyce. How are we, my beautiful ladies?
Annika Joshua Smith
We are good. We are good. I'm a bit croaky, I've just realized, so I apologize in advance.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
I feel like I sound like that every morning. Very nasally.
Annika Joshua Smith
I've got all the things going on, but I'm really pushing through. I'm like happy to be here.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
I love that.
Annika Joshua Smith
So I'm proud of you. Proud of you.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
How are you, Naima?
Naima Fatima
I'm good. I want to talk about something that's on my TikTok.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Oh, I thought you were about to get really deep, Justin.
Naima Fatima
Yeah, it is deep, actually.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Hit me.
Naima Fatima
Are we all obsessed with Sophie, Dofa and Bailey in Europe right now?
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Yes. Aren't they cute? Like, they're so cute.
Annika Joshua Smith
They're so cute.
Naima Fatima
I love them. I saw this comment and I was like, perfect description. Someone was like, they're like Sharpay and Ryan from High School Musical.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
I think that what I love about this is Bailey. He's just like shot to fame, don't we think? And she's obviously like main character. Respect Bailey, if you're listening. But like just seeing him come out of his shell and he's so prominent in all of her videos and the content. But I love him. Like, I want to like tune into. Sorry now. So I want to tune in to Bailey like full time.
Annika Joshua Smith
I love following him now because what's his actual title?
Naima Fatima
Social media assistant.
Annika Joshua Smith
So he actually pitched for his job by TikTok and I feel like from the get go he came in and you could see the impact he made on their content.
Naima Fatima
Yeah, I feel like she asked for a social media assistant and got like a long lost brother in the process. Like, they're so cute together.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
I think what's so beautiful as well, I saw this TikTok where he was actually telling his bestie about when he got the job and his bestie was like, shut up. Like they were screaming. They were having this moment. This role is so perfectly fitted for him and you can genuinely tell that that was one of the biggest milestones in his career. So I can just envision that this trip for him, all of the things he gets to do with Soph are just probably so meaningful and just something that he's just really dreamt about, which is so cool to see.
Naima Fatima
I also just feel like he loves his job. He has so much joy in the content that they create. There's not a lot of ego behind it and I really like that. It's like not very, I don't know, KPI based. It's not like this is the top from or from Mimi, please buy it. It's just fun and personality based. It's nice. It's a nice to go onto my feed and it's seeing them together. It's a nice little break.
Annika Joshua Smith
They've recently grown, like quite a bit.
Naima Fatima
Yeah.
Annika Joshua Smith
Because they hit 100 followers not that long ago and then all of a sudden they've jumped up over to 200,000 and that dynamic duo is really working for them. Which is interesting because so often you see that play out online where like a duo have a very prevalent brand and it can kind of backfire. But it seems like to me that those two are just, you know, they' friendship and their work dynamic is really strong. People obviously love it. I also love that they're doing like bulk brand deals, like collectively, but then also individually on this trip.
Naima Fatima
It's so smart. They've obviously been pitched together, they've gone well.
Annika Joshua Smith
They have the same manager.
Naima Fatima
Yeah.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Smart sense. And I think going back to what both of you are saying, this is why I think their friendship is so infectious. Like this is why we're on the journey while we're following along. Because often there's so many parasocial relationships created in social media. But I think something I also, when I was researching this app, so many people are talking about how Gen Z is one of the loneliest generations and seeing these two, seeing their friendship, seeing their relationship just blossom authentically. We get taken along this ride, which is really beautiful and you can kind of feel included. But it also kind of scares me because what happens, dun, dun, dun, if the relationship breaks down?
Annika Joshua Smith
Yeah, there's a lot of pressure if it goes south. But I just, I don't get any indication that that's the dynamic. And I feel like when what they've probably done, and I have no idea, like, this is pure speculation, but it seems like to me they even kind of poke fun at the fact that Sophia is his boss as well. Like, they bring that into the content. So I feel if there was tension, you're not bringing that to the front of the conversation. Like, you're very much like, that's buried underneath. And that's usually where aminosity, like, builds. But I feel they've done the smart thing, which is like, say the uncomfy thing out loud, acknowledge it up top. And then I always notice as well, when he flies economy and she flies business, and people always comment like, oh, my God, I can't believe she doesn't fly in business. I'm like, do you know how expensive business class flights are?
Naima Fatima
He's going to Europe.
Annika Joshua Smith
He's going to Europe, babe. I'd be flying economy as well if I had the opportunity to go, I'm
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
switching over here and fly business in my team.
Annika Joshua Smith
Yeah, but that's like. That's a business. You own this business. That is, like, a very common choice.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
That'll say it louder.
Annika Joshua Smith
It's a lot of. It's very common for a lot of businesses to do that. I know friends who work for big corps and they still fly economy. So, you know, I think it's just people wanting to find something to poke at. I don't even think they actually believe that. They're just. They're trying to get to this, like, underlying tension. Guys, I don't think is there.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
It's not. And it's not that deep.
Annika Joshua Smith
It's not that deep, but we just spent five minutes talking about it, so it is. Guys, swap. Annika, you can go first.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Oh, back to my time for the swap to my number one chair.
Guest / Everybody as a Secret Podcast Host
Yeah.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
So last year, I made a goal to become really more conscious of what I'm consuming and just getting to a place of contentment. And you might remember us when we were talking through our goals and what our future looked like, and this was something for me that I was forced into because motherhood just makes you readjust, reassess all of your priorities. I had to slow down whether I liked it or not. So I have just become really conscious of what I'm consuming and something I listened to recently, actually. Tessa James. If you guys don't know her, I'm sure you both do. It's hard to miss. She's one of the most, in my opinion, remarkable Australian women. Her journey is so inspiring. If you're not familiar with her story, I highly recommend that you get amongst, get familiar. But she has come out with a podcast called the Art of Living. And they just talk about really beautiful topics, really interview really beautiful people as well. And someone she interviewed recently was Morgan Hill. And this story, it's just, I think, so beautiful for the fact that it's raw, it's real. Morgan gets incredibly candid and her story is so interesting. I think it's talking about things as women that we can all relate to. And her journey, her story has changed and dare I say, it's changed for the better. Listening to her and listening to what she spoke about in her story was just so inspiring because I think in our 20s, we have this idea of what our life is gonna look like, what we're working towards. And her 30s have changed a lot for her. I don't wanna give too much away because I want to.
Annika Joshua Smith
I can see you're really trying to, like, take us on the journey without revealing too much.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
And you guys know, like, I've got loose lips. I don't know how to, like, you know, keep things and you're doing great, sweetie. You're doing great, sweetie. But anyway, I just think there's nothing more beautiful than being vulnerable. And I think in your 20s, it's really hard. But as you're growing and you get to your 30s, it's something that I actually also spoke about on my Inherited app, that there is so much beauty and vulnerability.
Naima Fatima
We actually had Tessa on Inherited, which is also an incredible episode. Sorry, a bit of cross network promotion there. But yeah, that one's a really amazing episode too, love.
Annika Joshua Smith
And to round it out, the artwork looks really good. So great branding.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Great branding. She's Kiss riri, what have you got for us?
Annika Joshua Smith
I've got a podcast episode as well. So I listened to Georgie Coleridge Cole, the founder of Sheer Lux, and the episode is Jamie Lang's podcast. So if you guys haven't listened to that, you must. He's recently launched a. Actually, I don't know if it was recent, but I've only just really started listening to the Friday Founders series that he does. So if you don't know who Jamie Lang is, he's a British personality. He's the founder of Candy Kittens, which is a vegan lolly brand. They are so good. So I'm also plugging his brand. A little double swap there. But the episode is titled Georgie Coleridge Cole I Sold she likes for £40 million. You can find it in Spotify or Apple. I mean, I love everything that she likes does. That's no surprise to anyone. It's about a 40 minute episode, so it's on the shorter side. I will admit I was craving like a little bit more. But what I did really appreciate is that Georgie doesn't shy away from how hard it was and the relief that she felt when she sold her business. And I thought that was a really interesting perspective to give. And she has a lot of good little tidbits for, you know, even if you're a small business owner or if you're someone who is working in corporate. I feel like you can take away a lot from this episode, so I really, really recommend it.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
I feel like you also forgot to mention that Jamie Lang is from Main and Child. Yes. Famously og like, guys, I don't know fun fact about me, but I'm obsessed with reality tv. Like obsessed. Like reality TV is my kryptonite. Like I go so hard. Anyway, Jamie Lange and Sophie Habo also obsessed.
Naima Fatima
Yeah.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
And I just love seeing this character arc for him.
Annika Joshua Smith
Well, I was about to say that's great for his personal brand that I didn't even reference Made in Chelsea because that is his origin story.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Oh, my God. It's such a good show, you guys.
Annika Joshua Smith
I watch that.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Poppy watches that. She. I think she's probably going to put on a little British accent because like when she was in the womb, it really calmed me down.
Naima Fatima
Jinx. I want to talk about my favorite influencer who is Erling Haaland. Are we all following him?
Annika Joshua Smith
Obsessed.
Naima Fatima
Obsessed As a side hustle. He obviously also plays for the World Cup.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
We put our funny pants on today. So funny.
Naima Fatima
I just, I love this man. He brings me so much joy. He is the most online person ever.
Annika Joshua Smith
I'm pretty sure after the World cup he officially became the most followed footballer. He's got like something like 16 million followers. It's insane. Everyone's obsessed with him. Just like us. My husband actually got me into him because he actually likes soccer or football. He'll probably say soccer, football. But he is so good to fall. And the handbag collection, you put up a process stylish the other week and that popped off.
Naima Fatima
I've been trying to think of where to bring him into. Like, I'm like, I need a post. And then I was like, the handbags.
Annika Joshua Smith
Oh, yeah, he's.
Naima Fatima
His collection of handbags is better than the Kardashians. Like, it is crazy.
Annika Joshua Smith
He also bought his girlfriend this really rare Birkin and they were seen like she was walking around. I think they were in Italy and they just look so chic and so cute together.
Naima Fatima
If there's a meme about him, he's commenting on it. Like, I'm like, does he have like a team of community managers? Like, he's on every post ever.
Annika Joshua Smith
He makes me want to get on Snapchat as well. I'm too old for Snapchat, but his Snapchats are hilarious.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
I am so happy you just dropped in Snapchat because I literally went on a tangent last night when I was actually on the plane coming back from Byron and his Snapchat is hilarious. So there's this one pose where someone commented, are you a boy or a girl? And his response was so iconic. He said, my dad is a boy and my mum is a girl, so I'm Mix xoxo. And I was actually deceased. Like I was cackling on the plane and I was like, oh my God, this man is so unbothered and so funny.
Annika Joshua Smith
So funny. Okay, so what are we actually talking about today? Well, it's really, really hard to talk about anything other than the suite of influencer weddings that we just saw roll out over the weekend. But we will get into that right after a word from today's sponsor.
Sponsor Voice / Prime Video Announcer
There are some fictional characters who stay with us long after the movie has ended, and Elle woods is absolutely one of them. Even though Legally blonde was released 25 years ago, her character is still one of the most iconic to grace our screens. Whether you were around for the original movie or not, I'm going to guess you're familiar with Elle, her story and obviously her wardrobe. So you're going to love this news. Prime Video has just released a prequel TV series that explores Elle Wood's teenage years before she became that Harvard Law student. This time we meet her as a 16 year old living her best life in Bel air in the 90s with a wardrobe full of glossy pink outfits and her future as a popular cheer captain. All planned out. But then in true coming of age drama fashion, everything changes when her family moves to Seattle after a reputation crushing social disaster. Cue grunge culture, rainy weather, and plenty of teen angst. If Prime Video knows one thing, it's how to deliver a series that becomes a full cultural obsession. Elle definitely belongs on your list. Watch Elle now exclusively on Prime Video. And thank you so much to Prime Video for making this episode as stylish possible.
Annika Joshua Smith
Couldn't open TikTok without seeing someone get married.
Naima Fatima
Everyone in the world got married on the weekend.
Annika Joshua Smith
Everyone.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Very romantic, wasn't it? I just love love you Love, love, I love love and I'm a big soppy sucker. Like I love love.
Annika Joshua Smith
And now you've been in the thick of doing research for these weddings. You're like, I love them all.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
I know. It made me feel like I'm going to go on another tangent. My wedding wasn't that great.
Annika Joshua Smith
That was not true.
Naima Fatima
Oh my gosh.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
But I was like watching these weddings and like the lavishness.
Annika Joshua Smith
Yeah, yours is shake. Yours was timeless. But if you didn't see Tommy Paul and Paige Lorenz got married, I would say that was the one that very much dominated my feed. And then Shay Sullivan and Casey Johnson, two American influences. Have to be really honest, guys did not know who these two people were until we started researching for this episode because my feed was absolutely dominated by Tommy and Paige. And I think that's because I follow quite a few people who actually attended that wedding. And also de moi were all over it. So Tommy Paul and Paige Lorenz wedding, it featured in Vogue and was held at Old Westonbury Gardens at Nassau county in New York. If you guys don't know who Tommy Paul is, he's an American tennis player. He's currently ranked number 24. Paige Lorenz, now Paul, she's an American influencer and entrepreneur who founded her lifestyle brand dairy boy in 2021. Quite pop popular in the shameless media office. To see a few of the girlies wearing it, I feel like it's really popped off recently. Let's go through the three looks that she wore.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
The looks were so iconic. So Carolina Herrera, as we all know, is such a formidable designer. And I think what really stuck out for me was she has designed for Jackie O Michelle Obama. So we're talking the most regal first ladies ever, dare I say it. And I think just for Paige, dressing her. So she had her wedding dress and also her reception dress in Carolina Herrera classic, timeless, elegant Chef's freakin kiss. And then we had her afterparty dress and Wiederhoft. I'm gonna be so.
Annika Joshua Smith
I love how you would own that. That was so good. So good.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
I'm actually part German, you guys. So guten tag. But anyway, yes, I know there are many character arcs over here but then we cannot forget her jewelry which was 3 million USD. So what's that like 4.2 AUD in jewellery she was dripping.
Annika Joshua Smith
She was ripping.
Naima Fatima
As obsessed with her like getting ready, like her getting ready photos. While she's getting her makeup done, she's got these big diamond earrings on. I was like, this is so glam. I'M obsessed.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
I know I would have been runaway bride, like with these, like, imagine, imagine
Annika Joshua Smith
the insurance forms that she had to sign before putting those on loan.
Naima Fatima
They're probably in the corner.
Annika Joshua Smith
Yeah, no, probably. Yeah, they probably did have security. I wouldn't be surprised. Now, on the other end of the spectrum, we had Shay and Casey. So if you don't know who Shay is, she's an American content creator and influencer. I didn't know who she was, so no shame in the game. And Casey is a reality star who was popular in Fboy Island. So they married at Castella di Tulsa in Tuscany. Her dress was designed by designer Kim Kasas Couture and she did her own glam, which I love.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Stunning. I mean, mad skills there as well. She looked beautiful. Stunning.
Annika Joshua Smith
So both weddings received a lot of love and huge engagement. But. But they also, as the Internet does, it did invite a lot of criticism because people have opinions about how much people's weddings show up online. I think the main sentiment was very much that it didn't feel authentic. A lot of questions were like, okay, who is this for? Is this for the Internet or is this very much about your love? So a lot of the buzz around, specifically about Shay and Casey's wedding, there was a lot of buzz around the authenticity, particularly because of the number of social media posts they had. So they had 19 Instagram posts and 23 TikTok posts within a four day period. That's two posts in four days. And six of those Instagram posts were actually scheduled on the same day as they got married.
Naima Fatima
Massive amount of work, really. That is a lot to get up. I mean, it's definitely not them doing it. They've definitely hired someone to do that. So I think a lot of the commentary that's like, oh my God, why don't you enjoy your wedding? It's performing. It's like they're not the people actually doing the work. I kind of understand a lot of people are saying that it feels performative, but for me, I actually have seen them on my feed quite a bit. And her style and the way that they, I guess like exist on the Internet is very this, like they're really romantic. They got engaged within three months. They've got this like big love story and they love to show it. So I kind of understand the very bold, the super romantic dress, then the like costumes at their after party. It kind of makes sense to me for them.
Annika Joshua Smith
Yeah. I think the style, the look and the feel, I don't know them as a couple and I don't know them very much online, but when I looked at all the photos, like, I definitely got old Hollywood glam vibes. And I thought it was incredibly beautiful. The way that she shot her portraits, like she looked absolutely stunning. So it wasn't so much how she looked or how they looked as a couple. I think it's more about the volume of the content that goes out. And I've said this on the podcast before when we've spoken about wedding culture on the Internet. I find it interesting when people choose to make something that is so private, so public, whether that's part of your content promise or not, or whether, you know, you're someone who's very open with everything in your life. Like, I understand why people do it from like a wedding point of view because the engagement is through the roof. For me personally, I wouldn't do it, but I tip my hat off to people who can. I also think when people are saying, don't you just want to be present during the day? I understand they're not editing the content and stuff, but to take time out of your day that already is pretty jam packed to shoot multiple trend videos is pretty like you're carving time out to do that. So I definitely see where people are coming from that perspective where they're like, I would never do that.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Yeah, I am with you, Ray. I actually hadn't followed this couple before and they were very new to me. So when I was looking into the show notes, I was just floored by how beautiful these people are.
Naima Fatima
Like, what face?
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Oh my goodness. She like, definitely old Hollywood. Like I was saying a little bit of like Anna Nicole Smith, even Pamela Anderson coming through with the hair. Like these references of old Hollywood glam. Like, dare I say, even Marilyn Monroe.
Annika Joshua Smith
I was getting major Marilyn Monroe vibes.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
And I just think something that I noticed through the content was this did feel quite authentic to them. Like, she is such a princess. This is the ultimate fairytale wedding. And I think it's really beautiful when you see people just lean into who they are, what they're about. And that clearly shone through on their wedding day. I do think from a content lens now, just being a bride as well, I don't know where the hell you find time to make that much content. I was a guest at my own wedding. Like, guys, I was legalist. Like, this bride had a bit too much fun. But it was clear that what Sean threw was their love. How he calls himself Mr. Shay. Yeah, like hello. I just love that about them as well. And again, sometimes I think the Internet just loves to hate. They were picking holes and things, the comments that I saw. And rule number one, we never read the comments, but I did. And people were asking, how much was this wedding cost? People wanted just to know things because of, like, the display. But at the end of the day, it's like, okay, well, if you're making this content, this content is a memory for you on your day. It's about what you guys believe in and was going to be meaningful for. For you.
Sponsor Voice / Prime Video Announcer
Go hard.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Like, why not? And I think just a bit of a, you know, a comparison between the two weddings that we're talking about. Paige and Tommy, obviously, it felt very, I want to say, like, regal. It felt very, like, American. I want to say, she is America's sweetheart. And I just loved everything that they stand for. It was classy, it was timeless. It was elegant. But so was everything that Shay and Casey are doing in their own way.
Annika Joshua Smith
This is why I find it so interesting that these two weddings have played out on the weekend, and everyone has something to say about one of them. So no matter, like, which one you felt.
Naima Fatima
Resin.
Annika Joshua Smith
Wait, which one you preferred? It sounds so bad. I don't even want to. It's not even, like, which one you prefer. It's more so which one you're like, oh, I really like that. I actually really liked both of them, but on completely different ends of the spectrum. They got so much hate. They got so much love. Like, it just goes to show how you cannot please everyone. So just please yourself. Dolls totally what you want on your wedding day. Then lean in.
Naima Fatima
It's giving, like, Vogue wedding to content. I don't know. There's a spectrum. Like, she didn't post until the Vogue cover came out, and then she just went ahead and posted, and that's okay. Like, both of those are fine. And people are gonna probably find criticisms in both because I saw lots of things that were like, her dress is too simple, and then her dress is too much. It's like, yeah, not your wedding.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
You can't. And do you know what I find also quite interesting? So a wedding we haven't spoken about is Gabrielle and Matty healy from the 1975.
Naima Fatima
I was locked into this one.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
I love her. Like, guys, have you seen the Jimmy Choo campaign that she did? And she literally had this witty little comment where she was like, it's about love and looking hot, but mainly about love. And I was just like, you're funny. And she just kind of how she speaks about herself. I think it's that Brat era. Right. It kind of brings it back and maybe, dare I say, ex Brat era now, but it's kind of like the resurgence of indie sleaze and the gothic bride. But what I did love was her wedding dress had a very exaggerated dropped waist, and it felt, again, very authentic to them. But looking at a celebrity wedding versus an influencer wedding, it's so hard to find content of the celebrity wedding. Like, they really, really, really have a lot more privacy. It's a lot more hidden. It's a lot more, you know, like, we're wanting more.
Annika Joshua Smith
I thought they maybe the paps photos were like. I thought they were, like, they knew that paparazzi were gonna be there. Oh, yeah.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Okay.
Annika Joshua Smith
I don't know why I have nothing to support this other than being a dimwarf.
Naima Fatima
These are kind of clear because he
Annika Joshua Smith
was like, wait a minute. These are, like, too good.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
That's so good.
Annika Joshua Smith
Like, they are clear shots of the dress them at the ceremony, multiple celebrities walking in. Like, you see Charlie XCX get papped. And I just felt, huh, I don't know about this.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Is this set in D. Slay's vibe where it's like, no, this is the content. Because I'm really into lo fi.
Sponsor Voice / Prime Video Announcer
Yeah.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Back then, like, oh, shifts.
Annika Joshua Smith
And I loved it. Like, what I got. I was, like, eating it all out. I was like, nom, nom, nom, nom. But, like, I did it maybe as well. Like, maybe I'm just so paranoid because I listened to Shameless so much and obviously work for Shameless Media. I'm like, paparazzi photos. They're all staged. That was my immediate thought. So I was like, they've gone, like, the celebrity route, which is like, oh, we want to be private.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Private, private.
Naima Fatima
Technically, Gabriette is an influencer, too.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
True.
Annika Joshua Smith
So, yeah.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Okay. Yeah. You've proved me wrong.
Naima Fatima
Her st. I think the dress is so her.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Yeah.
Naima Fatima
She's been indie sleaze since. Indie sleaze. She might. Yes. It's not. She hasn't gone back in and out, you know?
Annika Joshua Smith
No, her hands party was hilarious. She did, like, the whole, like, posed out the front of a private jet and had this cop, by pretending to arrest her. Like, really just lent in.
Naima Fatima
Did we see his Bucks party?
Annika Joshua Smith
No, I didn't.
Naima Fatima
Oh, Matty Healy's Bucks party. Was Matty Healy themed?
Guest / Everybody as a Secret Podcast Host
No,
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
no. This is iconic. I'm like, tell me more. Naima, I have not seen this.
Naima Fatima
He had a. I don't think he organized it. His friends did. But me speaking, like, we're close friends, but they had a cover band, like a 1975 cover band at his hands. And he's like cheering them on and he pushes the guy off the stage and comes on and starts, no, guys.
Annika Joshua Smith
I actually think he told his friends to do that and is just hiding behind, like, oh, I didn't plan it. Like, he so planned that.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
I think that Ray is actually Dumas.
Annika Joshua Smith
Like, she.
Naima Fatima
She knows.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
We've got our own Gossip Girl in the building, everybody.
Guest / Everybody as a Secret Podcast Host
I just.
Annika Joshua Smith
I don't buy that for a silent. That he didn't plan that himself.
Naima Fatima
I mean, he loved it.
Guest / Everybody as a Secret Podcast Host
Exactly.
Naima Fatima
That's my point.
Annika Joshua Smith
I'm like these. He's enjoying this way too much for someone who was in the dark about his box. All right, well, next we're going to be talking about Zendaya, obviously, because we've all seen. Well, actually, it's really hard to see the Odyssey, but we've seen the Odyssey restaurant. But we'll get into that right after a word from today's sponsor.
Sponsor Voice / Prime Video Announcer
25 years after legally Blonde hit our movie screens, changing fashion culture forever, Prime Video have just released elle, the prequel TV series based on Elle woods bougie teenage life in 90s Bel Air. We may or may not have squealed in the shameless office when we heard this news. In the series, Elle is on her way to be a popular cheer captain when her family moves to grungy Seattle, where her collection of bubblegum pink looks don't exactly fit in. This is made for a girl's weekend in Catch Elle, exclusively on Prime Video. And thank you so much to Prime Video for making this episode as stylish possible.
Annika Joshua Smith
Honestly, I'm dying to see the Odyssey.
Naima Fatima
I didn't know tickets were $50.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
$50? 50?
Annika Joshua Smith
Yeah.
Naima Fatima
For the IMAX, it's $50 each.
Annika Joshua Smith
Yes, but it is the way that Christine, no one intended for you to see the film, so I understand you're paying the extra money. What I would like to know is why I can't get in until the end to see it in imax, there's
Naima Fatima
a line you cannot get in.
Annika Joshua Smith
I almost booked at 9:30 session last night. Anyone who knows me that is insane. Insane. Like I go to bed at 8:30 and that's how desperate I was to see the movie. I mean, this is one of the most stacked cast lists I've ever seen. We've got Tom Holland, we've got Zendaya, we've got Charlize Theron, we've got Lupita Nyong', O, we've got Mia Goth, we've got Matt Damon, we've got Robert Pattinson. Like, it just leaves Travis Scott.
Naima Fatima
He gets a gig.
Annika Joshua Smith
Like, literally. Why wasn't I invited? But we're not here to talk about the Odyssey because none of us have seen it.
Naima Fatima
Yeah.
Annika Joshua Smith
So we can't talk about it, but
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
most exclusive ticket in town.
Annika Joshua Smith
Honestly, harder to get a ticket to the Odyssey than Taylor Swift's wedding. This hilarious TikTok that popped up on my feed showed me last night. But we will talk about the Odyssey press tour, because I must say, it is one of the most impressive press tours I've seen probably since Barbie.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Yeah.
Annika Joshua Smith
In terms of not just Zendaya, who is. Is the jewel in the crown.
Naima Fatima
Yeah.
Annika Joshua Smith
But everyone else really, really turned it up a notch. This press tour. What were your favorites?
Naima Fatima
I want to be part of this crew. I'm obsessed with this ensemble of actors. They all just look like they're really good friends. And I'm loving all the, like, banter and memes that we're getting out of it too. But from a fashion standpoint, obviously, Zendaya is killing it. I want to talk about the Schiaparelli dress.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Oh, we have to.
Naima Fatima
The Schiaparelli dress that was shown at 10am in Paris and was on the red carpet by 6pm London time the same day. Insane.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Insane insanity.
Naima Fatima
I watched a video backstage from a creator, Elias, and he's like, with Law Roach. La Roach, which is her stylist, and he's like, oh, like you're taking this to a premiere. Which premiere would that be? Wink, wink, Odyssey. Wink, wink. And he says that he literally flew in. Law Roach flew in the night before and then had a private jet pretty much ready to go to take the dress onto the plane. Straight onto Zendaya. My question is, how did it fit her? Couture is, like, fit to the person. Like, it's hand sewn pretty much into the person. How has that come off the Runway straight onto her?
Annika Joshua Smith
Well, I wonder if they'd picked a model who had the same all pretty close measurements to her, because that would be a really tight turnaround.
Naima Fatima
Yeah, I can't get over it. I've been thinking about it.
Annika Joshua Smith
Yeah, I didn't think about that. Nightmare. That's a good point.
Naima Fatima
And, like, the bodice is silicone, so it's not like I'm just going to add it, let it out a little bit.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Yeah, It's.
Naima Fatima
They've literally just had to, like, hopes and dreams. It's def. I mean, there's probably Been a lot of planning that's gone into it, but in my head, it's like, just slipped onto her perfectly, totally.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
And it's like, the commitment to the look. Right. And I think with Law Roach, like, he speaks about fashion as his visual language, and he always says that fashion should communicate before someone speaks. And that for me, it's just like he continues to outdo himself. Like, the commitment to this look, the commitment to getting that dress from the Runway onto Zen and Daya in record time is just unreal. And there is a reason why this man is such a leader in what he does. Like, he didn't create method dressing, but, my God, he's one of the founding fathers. We've actually done a full episode on Law Roach, which we will link in the show notes.
Naima Fatima
It's interesting because it's like what they're known for, for me is like, really pulling out specific archival 90s 2000s, like, archival vintage designer fashion is like, the looks that a lot of the time, you know, Zendaya and Law Roach do so amazingly together and kind of like, I think, really brought that onto red carpet dressing. This is the other way around. Like, this is. This design couldn't be newer. Like, if anything, they've set the record on the other side.
Annika Joshua Smith
Yeah, I love that they're using, like, new pieces, but also they're making a lot of odes to, like, the history of Greece. And I feel even in the way that they accessorize, like, for a photo call in Paris, Zendaya actually wore an ornate mask and dress from Givenchy, and then Sofia Webster healed gladiator sandals in New York. So I feel even the accessories are really bringing that method dressing to life, but also just making really nice ties to, like, that Grecian look and feel. And so the one that she wore to the New York premiere is very dramatic.
Naima Fatima
And I believe, yes, the feathers, it's actually a brand called fecal matter.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Okay. And fun fact, Gabriette's wedding dress was also by them.
Naima Fatima
Yeah.
Annika Joshua Smith
Okay.
Naima Fatima
I actually listened to a podcast with them last night, the Fashion Neurosis episode, and they're really apparently picky with who gets to wear their designs, so they have to really embody the brand of, like, doing something out of the norm. So I do think that's really interesting with Law Roach and Zendaya like that, because one of their main people that actually wear the brand is Lady Gaga. I don't know if you guys remember that big. The black feathered dress that she wore to the Grammys. That's this brand.
Annika Joshua Smith
Okay. Right. I also read that apparently they had put the dress on hold for two years.
Naima Fatima
Yeah.
Annika Joshua Smith
So that Zendaya could wear it for the Odyssey premiere.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
So that is insane.
Annika Joshua Smith
Yeah. The quote was, we kept our promise and turned down so many great requests, but knew this was the right fit for such an important creation in our archive.
Naima Fatima
It's so funny to see comparisons as well, like where on the actual runaway, the person wearing it is actually the designer of the dress. And she's got a full white makeup, face, quite dramatic eye makeup on, like eyeliner, a shaved head, and it's quite avant garde, looks quite different. And then when it's the, like vision for Law Roach to then put it on Zendaya, it's so like Grecian and angelic. It was just such a good, like, contrast.
Annika Joshua Smith
To me, it was softened with like that light glam, which I'm also seeing. The Bridal Journey did a post saying that that very fresh glam is coming in for weddings. She just looked absolutely ethereal. And then the curly hair and the way it was draped, it would just, oh, my God, Chef's kiss. But there were other people in this press tour. We should probably talk about them.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
I also think, though, just back to Zendaya.
Naima Fatima
Just let me, let me come back here.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
I think that's the word, right? Ethereal. And I think that is what I love about Law Roach and he is a self proclaimed image architect. I would love that. It freaking shows like, you guys, everything that they do is just world class. And I had to collect my jaw from the floor when I saw her walk out in this feathered, ethereal, angelic number. Because like you said, Naima, completely different vision from what we saw on the Runway. And I think it also shows what Law Roach's vision is as well. Like, it just shows something you can't replicate with. What him and Zendaya do is they have this aura. And you cannot replicate that aura because on the Runway I saw almost contemporary, I saw bold, I saw loud avant garde, like you said. And then I see the soft, beautiful references coming through on Zendaya. I, like, I have no notes. I was just staring at the beauty of like this image in this press tour. And now we can talk about the rest of the cast.
Annika Joshua Smith
I was about to say, they're like, so Sophie, Dover and Bailey. They can never break up. You can never break up.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Never.
Naima Fatima
Never.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
And they won't. They literally won't. I reckon there's a contract that's so deep that it's like until the end of time. It's like a freaking prenup. So they're married? Yeah.
Naima Fatima
Tom's actually last in that list. Law Roach, Tony.
Annika Joshua Smith
Speaking of Tom Holland, I did like one of his looks. Just one? Just one. No, I actually think he dresses really well because he doesn't dress to try and outshine or match Zendaya. He compliments her. But I did love him the jacquemus, which was the tan jacket and the tailored black pants. He just looked very effortless, very complimentary to the jewel in the crown, which is Zendaya. Who did you guys like? Who else did you guys like?
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
I actually really liked seeing him in Fear of God, and I saw Corey Hawkins in Fear of God as well, and I thought they both kind of had a little bit of contemporary coming through. I don't think they really channeled the Odyssey vibe. But the one who really did not channel the Odyssey was my dear friend Matt Damon. Don't know him. Sorry, I want. I want to say it kindly. We are talking about a navy blue suit with a polka dot navy blue tie and these brown leather loafers for the Odyssey. It does not make sense. Matt Sacas, I.
Naima Fatima
It's also.
Annika Joshua Smith
You are the Odyssey. Yeah, you are Odysseus.
Naima Fatima
You're the main guy.
Annika Joshua Smith
You are the main guy.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
I'm like, this look is just. It's not serving. I mean, maybe if we're off to a corporate board meeting, but, like, he needs to go and hang out with Corey and Tom because they looked great. I think contemporary, fresh. And Fear of God.
Naima Fatima
Isn't that funny, though, that it's like, if it was like 20 years ago on a red carpet, dressing like this wouldn't be a thing. But now, because he's next to Zendaya, it's like, like, oh, now, now he looks not as good.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
That's actually really good.
Naima Fatima
Like, it's like back in the 90s, you wouldn't wear an outfit related. Like, it's like a Star wars premiere. You're not doing it for Star Wars. You're not doing the full costume. But for this now it's like, it's just the standard. It's just the expectation.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
We expect you to deliver, Matt, and you simply did not.
Naima Fatima
I think, respectfully. Did you see Robert Pattinson talking about this?
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
Oh, my God, no. It hurt me.
Naima Fatima
It's like, I think they asked. It was like, oh, like, do you feel like a lot of, you know, next to all this, like, amazingly dressed cast? But I'll just play what he said.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
There's fashion pressure out here today.
Sponsor Voice / Prime Video Announcer
I was terrified.
Annika Joshua Smith
Whenever Zendaya's coming to something, you're like, oh, God, everyone's gonna get out.
Sponsor Voice / Prime Video Announcer
Sean.
Naima Fatima
It was just like, what's the point? You know, next to Zendaya, I mean,
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
he could have just been like Travis Scott and like, you know, borrowed some like sick sunglasses and like a funky little sneaker. No, didn't pull through. I'm let down over here. Can you tell?
Naima Fatima
Yeah, you're really mad at me, David.
Annika Joshua Smith
Anne Hathaway and Lupita Nyong' o were also so impeccable.
Naima Fatima
I really loved Anne Hathaway. I thought she's really, I don't know, she's like glowing. She's pregnant, she's naturally glowing. And I think she's like really lent into the style of dressing and I think she's really lent into that flowy Grecian style and she's just like glowing. Her hair is like, just looks beautiful. I think she looks amazing.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
I know. You're like so smitten over there. I quite like it.
Naima Fatima
I love Anne Hathaway, I think. Cause it's like I've.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
We grew up with aunt. Yeah, we were rally Claire.
Naima Fatima
Yeah, yeah. Princess Diaries aunt. And like, look at her now.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
I know she's everywhere. Some Prada number. She just honestly, like, she looks beautiful. Like again, I think you summarized it perfectly. So I won't, I won't even try and act more smitten.
Annika Joshua Smith
What did the custom Prada look like?
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
This. Okay, I'm showing you my screen. But it was so a crossed necked bed, bejeweled. Sorry, I don't know if Prada would like that, but bedazzled number up the top. And then it just had a really beautiful pl. Say. So it was like an ivory silk. Actually, can you please say silk? I don't know. The fashion girl in me should know this, but it was all plaid and it just really like, I think made the bump the main feature, the main event. But it was just stunning. It fits her beautifully.
Naima Fatima
And I will say Lupita's glam.
Annika Joshua Smith
I was just about to go there. Nma her glam was next level and also like glowing.
Naima Fatima
What's her? Who's her? What's her body care routine like? She's just glowing, gorgeous, really embodying Helen of Troy.
Annika Joshua Smith
Looking at Lupita's glam as well. It's very much leaning into like that ancient Greek, almost like ancient Egyptian vibes as well. Very Cleopatra in a way.
Naima Fatima
Zendaya's makeup artist Sorry to go back to Zendaya. Zendaya's makeup artist Ernesto also made a bunch of videos on his Instagram about how he did the kind of like really soft glam. My call out from that was the blush, because I think everyone wanted to know what the blush was. It's actually a Prada blush in the Shade Cafe. So everyone look that up. I'd love to know what the sales are on that now.
Host / Stylish Podcast Main Host
It's probably sold out now, before.
Naima Fatima
No, it's there. I had a look.
Annika Joshua Smith
Well, won't be after this.
Naima Fatima
Okay. And that's. We're officially making a call. No more Zendaya. We're not allowed to talk about her anymore.
Annika Joshua Smith
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
Naima Fatima
Today. Today. Yeah, today. Sorry. And that's actually all for this week's episode of Stylish. Please, if you enjoy enjoyed this episode, leave us a review. We want to keep growing. We want to keep making this show. So give us a little review, a little love. Give us a little love.
