Luke explains the ancient art of “rattle canning” to Andrew, which reminds Andrew of a disturbing site he saw recently. They also discuss the backlash to the awful new designs on official MLB team hats…including the one that unintentionally...

Chase, what's your favorite thing to snack on when you're jamming out to music? I don't know. Everything's good. Okay, well, we're streaming live on bagel Bites tv, so can you say bagel bites? Oh, yeah. Bagel bites. Okay, great.
Luke Burbank
But can you say it in a.
Andrew Walsh
Sentence like, I'm chase dreams, and when I'm jamming out to music, I love to eat bagel bites. I'm chase dreams, and when I'm jamming out to music, I love to eat bagel bites. Okay, great.
Luke Burbank
Congrats on whatever it is you do.
Andrew Walsh
TBTL TL comin across the airwaves full of love through the sky. There is one more thing. The network has received quite a few angry phone calls from older viewers about our theme song.
Luke Burbank
Really? I think our theme song's zazzy.
Andrew Walsh
Laughter.
Luke Burbank
A sure sign of a good time. A year ago, this is exactly what Greg Kinnear was doing. But now he has an Oscar for sliding doors.
Andrew Walsh
3 Jingle all the door things are going to start happening to me now. Well, all right.
Luke Burbank
Hello, good morning, and welcome, everyone, to a Thursday edition of tbtl, the show that just might be too beautiful to live. In this show, people get a little embarrassed and then very angry. My name is Luke Burbank.
Andrew Walsh
I am your host.
Luke Burbank
I'll do it until it stops.
Andrew Walsh
Will you please stop?
Luke Burbank
Coming to you from the Madrona Hill studio perched high above the mighty Columbia, where we are getting another beautiful day. Oh, my pa. It's just beautiful. I think it is officially spring, if I'm not mistaken. I think we're actually in springtime. We've sprung ahead. It is blue skies, and we are feeling very good about episode 4422 in a collector series.
Andrew Walsh
Let the fun begin.
Luke Burbank
I don't know if Major League Baseball is feeling very good about these new hats that they rolled out that first of all just look weird as hell. And also, one of them accidentally involves a anatomical reference in Spanish. I've made a huge mistake, and I didn't realize this until I read the article, but they had a similar problem last year involving an. I guess. Was it still the Oakland A's back then? An Oakland A's hat from last year? We'll talk Major League Baseball hat stuff. We'll also talk about this new scam that you should be aware of, where they're texting you about tolls that you may owe.
Andrew Walsh
It's literally illegal.
Luke Burbank
I do think I've actually gotten caught up in this. Caught up in this cotton C A u G, H, T O, N. That's not a word and I'm not gonna use it today. I am gonna use the word blursday though because It's a Thursday a.k.a. blurs Day birthday. Today we'll do the blur st messages and we'll talk to this guy. Longest running cobra of the show. May be best known for his depictions of the tall ships. Yeah. Oh yeah, buddy. He brought the rock and roll edge to the Eagles. He's Andrew Walsh and he's joining me right now. Good morning my friend.
Andrew Walsh
Good morning, Luke. I'm one of a couple of people who in all fairness brought the double.
Luke Burbank
Neck guitar that helped you do it.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah, well again I'm one of a couple of people with a double neck guitar who brought a heart, by the way.
Luke Burbank
You know old Don Felder, Old Fingers Felder is also playing the Clark County Fairgrounds down here.
Andrew Walsh
No, I didn't know that. There's something. There's something extremely fair groundsy about a Clark County Fairgrounds. You know what I mean? Like doesn't that sound even checks out? Yeah, like it really sounds like a real county fair.
Luke Burbank
Although here's the thing. I think it's called the so sad. I think the name of the amphitheater is technically the RV in Style Amphitheater or something like one of those real, real non flowy names for something. So you drive by when you're driving through. I guess you would be a little north of Vancouver, Washington and a little south of Ridgefield. You'd be south of the new Costco in Ridgefield, but. But north of Vancouver. And you would see the Clark County Fairgrounds. There's also a King Lazik there which always makes me think of the fact that Makavik from King and Makavik is doing hard time for trying to kill King. But anyway, you would look to your. Depending on which direction you were driving. I guess if we're going south in this analogy, you look to your right, you'd see the Clark County Fairgrounds and a sign that flashes various bands and artists that are going to be coming through. But I think if you went to the actual place that the concert's happening, I believe it's the RV in style something. Listen, the.
Andrew Walsh
It's clunky. The InStyle part of that is clunky. I will be the first one to say it, but I'm. But at least it's rv. Like I thought you were going to say it's like the Sam Bankman fried. Like I don't even. I don't Even know Sparks. Yeah, right. Like some sort of bitcoiny, like, awfulness. I mean, again, if it's going to be a fairground, naming it after an RV company seems like fair game to me.
Luke Burbank
Yeah, you're right. The.
Andrew Walsh
The actual.
Luke Burbank
I'm looking this up to double check if it's. Yeah, I believe it's the RV In Style Resorts Amphitheater. They had to get resorts in there.
Andrew Walsh
Hotline, Hotline. That's. That's how we monetize tbtl. And these are the burden off the listeners.
Luke Burbank
These are the small details that. That just drive me absolutely crazy. There was something like this the other day on the show I was talking about. It's like RV In Style Resorts Amphitheater.
Andrew Walsh
And Roxino.
Luke Burbank
Fingers Felt. It's like they wanted to make sure that you could. You. It's also a resort. You know what I mean? So it's like rv. And by the way, inn is spelled with two N's. So what this is is some chain of RV parks. Fine. It's honest work.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah.
Luke Burbank
In is two N. Not to jump.
Andrew Walsh
The gun, but we are in MLB hat territory here. What are they doing? It's so many weird referen differences.
Luke Burbank
It's the puta style. Please. I'm sorry. I said a really bad word in Spanish. Tetas is not that bad. Puta not great.
Andrew Walsh
I don't know what that means. I'm not gonna repeat. Don't look it up, but I promise not to say ash hose when that comes up later in the show.
Luke Burbank
What about the Los Angeles anals?
Andrew Walsh
We can't get into it now. We must save it. Although I got nothing else.
Luke Burbank
This can. This conversation makes me so mad because I'm not. Not the conversation I'm having with you. The conversation that I'm imagining happened around the naming of this amphitheater, which was somebody was like, okay, it's an RV park, but you can RV in Style. Like, they've got a lot of perks. They've got probably some kind of a, you know, pickleball courts and all kinds. You're RVing and styling.
Andrew Walsh
This is not like. This is not your grandfather's RV park.
Luke Burbank
No, this ain't no koa, brother.
Andrew Walsh
Right.
Luke Burbank
Okay. This is. You're RVing in style, but then someone's like, okay, but also, we do have resort facilities. And what if they don't have an rv? What if they're driving by? What if they're on their way to see Don Fingers Felder, by the way, I don't know if you've heard this 2024 is really shaping up to be Don Fingers Felter's year. He is back in the driver's seat, baby.
Andrew Walsh
Can we circle back on that and see how it went? Because that's what the press release still says, right?
Luke Burbank
That's what the bio on the Emerald Queen Casino listing For Don Fingersfeld 1983.
Andrew Walsh
Is shaping up to be a big year for the Eagles, the man who brought the rock and roll edge to the Eagles.
Luke Burbank
So like imagine you're driving on Interstate 5. You're me, you're going down to the big city, aka Portland, actually, aka Salmon Creek, where they now have a Trader Joe's and soon an In n Out. And that, my friend, is going to be a Titanic shit show.
Andrew Walsh
In. But just you should specify in is spelled with two N's in this case as well. Exactly. It's not the in and out that everybody is familiar with.
Luke Burbank
RV In n Out style resorts. Animal style amphitheater.
Andrew Walsh
Roxy though, Right, Got it.
Luke Burbank
Like there's one. There is just. There's nothing white people like. Like an In n Out that's far away from other In n outs. There's one in Kaiser, Oregon, which is down near Salem on the way to Salem, where Becca's mom lives. And so we go down to Salem a lot. And as you're driving by Kaiser, there is a perennial and perpetual insane line to go through the in and Out. And again, you know, it's a fun place. I've been to In n Out. I have no, no qualms within out per se.
Andrew Walsh
Can I ask you a quick question? In n Out is. I don't think I've ever had a burger there. Ever been there before. But this the one that is like kind of the iconic LA place that people freak out about. Okay, gotcha. Yeah, I get some of those burger.
Luke Burbank
Joints confused and they're, you know, even the ones in LA will have a line. But there are, you know, there's a good number of them there. But because they're so iconic, when you put one in like a Kaiser, Oregon or a Ridgefield, Washington, it becomes people's entire personality to go to the in and out to wait in line at the In n out.
Andrew Walsh
I've seen Chick Fil a do that to communities.
Luke Burbank
Yes, exactly. Except In n Out is, I believe, open on Sunday. So.
Andrew Walsh
Ah, yes.
Luke Burbank
One extra day to have a crazy line. And again, it's next to a sparkling new Costco. Like they almost share a parking lot. So just think about the demo overlap. Think about the Canyoneros full of kids named Braylon that have recently Costco'd and are now celebrating by getting a. A 4x4 animal style.
Andrew Walsh
I do believe one of our dazzling donors today is named Braylin, though, so ease up on that.
Luke Burbank
Peace and love.
Andrew Walsh
Yes, and love to all Braylons.
Luke Burbank
But, yeah, it's funny because they have such the.
Andrew Walsh
The.
Luke Burbank
What do you call it?
Andrew Walsh
The.
Luke Burbank
The look of an in and out is so iconic that it's not even. It's just plywood right now. But I know it's going to be an in and out because of the building shape.
Andrew Walsh
You know, this is. Again, I'm really in the dark on this one, or maybe in the. In the shade, because I know of in and out. I can picture the sign, the iconic logo, but it's not like a Pizza Hut for me, where I can see a Pizza Hut or I see a craft shop. I'm like, somebody used to be a Pizza Hut, right?
Luke Burbank
And, you know, as I think about it, I don't know if every in and out has the same architectural style. I actually don't know if that's the case. In fact, maybe I think it's not. Now that I'm kind of playing this out of my mind, what I can tell you is I've been driving past this. Again, it's just plywood right now. It's basically the cladding. Not. Not the cladding, but, like the. You know, the. The building is built. It's. It's plywood. It doesn't have on, like, whatever stucco or siding it's going to ultimately have. And I kept looking at it like, what is that going to be? And then it just hit me. Oh, that's going to be an in and out. So maybe there's enough of them that are built in this style that I recognize it. But anyway, let's just imagine you got. You got Braylon, Cooper and Kalin in the backseat, and you are driving now. You're returning down to North Vancouver, Washington area.
Andrew Walsh
You just got into a fight with Braylon's coach at Little League at a big game. You're driving.
Luke Burbank
I am hoping nobody taped it on their cell phone. You just turned it over to the police.
Andrew Walsh
You just got ejected for questioning. A call by the.
Luke Burbank
I have been trespassed from the. The North Vancouver Little League. And honestly, they had a point.
Andrew Walsh
You need a burger.
Luke Burbank
You're driving south now, and you're going past the Clark County Fairgrounds, and somewhere, and it's not even that big, there is a sign that indicates that the amphitheater Where Don Felder will be playing is called the RV in style. And you think to yourself, not for me. I don't have an rv. And then you see the word resort and you're like, it could be. For me, it's also a resort, Andrew.
Andrew Walsh
But is it an inn? Is there any way for me to figure out if there's room at the inn there?
Luke Burbank
It's weird because their mascot is an old man in a nightgown holding one of those candles, opening the door of the inner, telling you that there's no more room. Yeah.
Andrew Walsh
Anyway, they call.
Luke Burbank
That's where Don Felder's playing.
Andrew Walsh
Kevin the Creeper Crowley is his name. Actually grew up in town. By the way, the old man who holds the door open for you, you.
Luke Burbank
Know who we're trying to get on Livewire for next fall is Kevin the Creeper Crowley.
Andrew Walsh
Close, huh?
Luke Burbank
Elvira.
Andrew Walsh
Oh, no kidding. Yes.
Luke Burbank
Because she has a cookbook coming out in the fall, The Elvira Cookbook. I believe her name is Cassandra Peterson. I don't know if you saw this video.
Andrew Walsh
I was trying to remember her name. It is Cassandra. Yeah.
Luke Burbank
So it turns out she lives in Portland now. She moved up to Portland a few years ago, and she recently donated her Tesla to charity and gave the money to npr.
Andrew Walsh
Oh, nice.
Luke Burbank
Elvira with good takes.
Andrew Walsh
I don't know why when you said Elvira, like, I'm not somebody who grew up a big Elvira fan. I remember seeing her. She cut quite a figure. I don't know if you'll recall. It was.
Luke Burbank
I don't see. I don't see Titas.
Andrew Walsh
And save it for the baseball hat show. Exactly. Segment. But anyway, I feel like I spent a couple of decades not really thinking about her, but recently.
Luke Burbank
But walking by her in the beer section of the grocery store, a cutout of her doing some kind of Bud Light or Miller Light ad. I feel like she was omnipresent in.
Andrew Walsh
Our childhood, especially around Halloween, of course. But anyway, I just sort of feel like. Yeah, lately I've been hearing, oh, yeah, the woman who plays Elvira is like. Like a really good person. I don't know why. I just. I'm kind of get. I just feel like lately I've been getting that glow off of stories about her. That's cool.
Luke Burbank
I believe you're getting an accurate glow, at least as it. As it relates to her giving away her Tesla and giving the money to NPR and doing a whole kind of video about basically, like, you know, not being a fan of Elon Musk.
Andrew Walsh
Nice.
Luke Burbank
I really Appreciated. Yes.
Andrew Walsh
I wonder what the charity is going to do with that car. Like, stop egging the charity car.
Luke Burbank
Have you seen we're taking orphans to.
Andrew Walsh
The hospital in this figure? People are spray painting swastikas on it.
Luke Burbank
I don't know how actually common this is or this was just, you know, like a. Like a New York Times trend piece and that three people did it and now we're talking about, like, it's a thing. But I did see some photos on the Internet of people who have modified their Tesla to look like they changed the Tesla logo to be.
Andrew Walsh
Oh, yeah. Oh, that's all over the place. Yeah, yeah. On the Seattle subreddit, there's like five photos of the day. Somebody painted their. I don't know if this was Photoshopped or not or somebody is just has a great sense of humor. Somebody spray painted their cybertruck white and put the Rivian logo spaced out. You know, it's just the simple words Rivian. They spelled out Rivian across the back. That's pretty great. Yeah. I mean, again, absolutely support that person. Yeah.
Luke Burbank
Oh, you think someone did it to someone's car?
Andrew Walsh
No, no, no.
Luke Burbank
I think somebody did that to their own cybertruck.
Andrew Walsh
The idea of this photo is that somebody did this to their own cybertruck.
Luke Burbank
My question is it's one of those. Eat more chicken. Back to Chick Fil A.
Andrew Walsh
My question.
Luke Burbank
The cows spray painting Eat more chicken.
Andrew Walsh
No, it was definitely somebody who's like kind of like, you know, getting on this trend of disguising their car as something else. But it's obviously a joke. I just don't know if the joke started with somebody actually doing this to their car or if we live in 2025 and I can't believe my eyes. Like, did somebody modify this in Photoshop to make it look this way? I'm not sure where the.
Luke Burbank
It looks like somebody rattle canned it as we used to say.
Andrew Walsh
Oh, what does that mean?
Luke Burbank
When somebody would. Would paint their car in high school, but they would spray paint. They'd buy like 30 cans of like, you know, Krylon.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah.
Luke Burbank
And they would rattle can it. And it did not turn out great.
Andrew Walsh
I've never heard that term.
Luke Burbank
They didn't have the $200 for Mako.
Andrew Walsh
I'm thinking of two Rattle canned cars that I know of right now. One was rattle canned pink two weeks ago and turned on its side.
Luke Burbank
I live this near the chop shop.
Andrew Walsh
No. Well, yeah, my neighborhood. It's like there's this weird. It's really hard to describe, but there's this weird little cutoff road that just goes like past a park. Oh, you know the park where they play disc golf.
Luke Burbank
Oh, sure.
Andrew Walsh
You know, that little, that little tiny.
Luke Burbank
Little triangle of land.
Andrew Walsh
I'm glad you know it and I'm really glad I couldn't explain this to our listeners. That's near Delphia.
Luke Burbank
This is going out to everyone in Baltimore.
Andrew Walsh
That's right.
Luke Burbank
The. That's. That's very close to, well, the Seattle Police north precinct where I've spent some time. And also a public health center, which is where I used to go to get my health publicly dealt with when I was a kid.
Andrew Walsh
I didn't. Oh, that's interesting. That's right past that. That's the. I remember you talking. That's where you saw condoms.
Luke Burbank
That is where I saw.
Andrew Walsh
I didn't realize that.
Luke Burbank
I saw I.
Andrew Walsh
Condom. I didn't realize. I didn't realize that that's the. That I passed the building where you condoned. But I did.
Luke Burbank
For the record, I didn't. Condom in the building. I brought them home. I locked myself. We didn't have a lock. I shut the door. One bathroom. This is the. I've mentioned this before, but this is what's so weird about my childhood is nine people in the house. That's not technically true. Not at the same time, but let's just go with seven. A number being seven, it would be probably an average one bathroom. I don't remember it being a problem. And then I've, you know, I've lived with, with, with people in my life and in houses that have like three to four bathrooms. And I've been like, are you almost done in there?
Andrew Walsh
Yeah.
Luke Burbank
I don't know how it wasn't an issue. I don't know how there was the privacy for me to go into this bathroom as a 13 year old, close the door, put a condom on myself to just see. And nobody was knocking on that door, like, we need to get in there like that. You would think there just be. It would be grand, you know, Grand Central Station.
Andrew Walsh
Well, when you weren't experimenting with your sexuality.
Luke Burbank
I mean, ironically, years later, I should have been wearing a condom.
Andrew Walsh
There is a lot of.
Luke Burbank
I mean, thank God I wasn't because then we've got to. We've got a jingle off the doors kind of situation.
Andrew Walsh
But, but like, I think that at a pretty young age I was, you know, I don't know if this is learned behavior or if it's just instinctual or if it's just the draw of A huge stack of old Readers Digests that we kept on the back of the toilet. But I was a camper pretty early on. Like, I would camp out in the bathroom if I was ever.
Luke Burbank
RV in style.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah, in style.
Luke Burbank
By the way, it's also a resort.
Andrew Walsh
Yes.
Luke Burbank
No, there was no. There was no bathroom in an RV.
Andrew Walsh
One time when it wasn't hooked up to water. Got in trouble for that or whatever it was.
Luke Burbank
There was no reading mater in our bathroom.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah, see, you probably just didn't have that culture. Like, you probably didn't think about it because it wasn't like something being taken away from you. But I probably couldn't have gotten away with my drama in real life.
Luke Burbank
Reading made up for that in my adulthood. I've become quite the. I've RV'd in style in many a bathroom in my adulthood. But, yeah, as a kid, it was not a place to. You did not tarry in that bathroom again, unless you were experimenting with safe sex.
Andrew Walsh
But it's, like, fresh, but. Yeah, yeah. And so I. Oh, when you said you put it on, you mean you put it on your eye in its package. Oh, that's a much less upsetting image, actually. Good. I'm happy to hear that.
Luke Burbank
No, it didn't feel in the bathroom growing up. It wasn't like. It wasn't like the opening scene of Caddyshack, which. I talk about the movie Caddyshack a lot on this show because, first of all, I just love that movie. It's very funny to me. But it's also just so funny how, like, it starts off as kind of one sort of movie and then they just completely forget about the plot of Danny Noonan Is a Teen is about to be a teen parent. Speaking of teen parenthood. So the beginning of Caddyshack is at the Noonan household, where there's, like, too many kids and a beleaguered father, and they're banging away on the bathroom door. And I don't know if it's Danny Noonan's sisters or if it's him or somebody's in the bathroom. Maybe he's in the bathroom doing his hair. There's a whole situation of, like, a traffic jam, a Chris Sullivan choke point at the Noonan family bathroom. And then Danny goes down. I believe he gets on his 10 speed. He rides over to Bushwood Country Club where he's a Caddy, and. And. And then he finds out from his, for some reason, Irish girlfriend that she's pregnant.
Andrew Walsh
They met at a law enforcement conference.
Luke Burbank
Law enforcement Convention. Please go Back to episode 2640 to learn what that means. And then like, this is. Again, maybe I relate to this because of my own sordid past, but like, this is a big part of the plot. That is, if I remember right, never revisited. Once he starts like, you know, once he and Judge Schmail start chopping it up around the, you know, the Bushwood scholarship. How about a Fresca?
Andrew Walsh
Oh, that's what that's from. That's Judge talking to the. Know what that was from?
Luke Burbank
It's not just an audio drop, Andrew. It's a lifestyle.
Andrew Walsh
Right. Oh. As he takes a sip from his Fresca. Anyway, there was a rattle canned pink car on its side next to that park. That's all. I just wanted to let people know why I started saying it was the weirdest thing. So you can. Listeners. I'm talking to Luke here. Luke. You can picture the purpose of that road, right? You're coming off of what is North Gateway at this weird little s. Absolute.
Luke Burbank
To take a left off of.
Andrew Walsh
You can't take a left. You're not really supposed to. It's a one way for the block.
Luke Burbank
How am I gonna get to the Arby's? How am I gonna get to the.
Andrew Walsh
Arby's is gone, my friend.
Luke Burbank
I'm not gonna get the hotel. Now the, the. What would you call it, the ceremonial grounds that used to be the Arby.
Andrew Walsh
Do you know that in the. In the. I don't really have a lot on this pink car. It was just flipped on its side. I have a lot of questions. There was some. Okay, I'll tell you what I saw, but I do want to let you.
Luke Burbank
Know, think about how many people it took to get it onto its side.
Andrew Walsh
I've been. But it's might have.
Luke Burbank
Or one very, very triggered mother.
Andrew Walsh
Okay, listen, let me. Okay, I'll scrap what I was going to say and just get back to this. So that road, you're really only supposed to take it one way. And it's when you're coming off of North Gateway, right of that S turn, you're heading east and this is like kind of a little shortcut to either the highway or really to like the. The community college that's back there. Right. And so you're on North Gateway, you take a right, kind of a weird kind of right onto this thing that splits off where you've turned off. It's like. Like you said, it's almost like a little triangle there and it's a one way. They do not want Cars kind of getting to North Gateway. From there, you're only. It's only egress off. I don't know if egress is the right word there. So when you take that weird kind of right, and you look to your left, there's this little just dead area where sometimes an old car is parked or an old truck or whatever. There was a truck with a flat tire there forever. It's right, like, kind of at the beginning of the park instead of a car being parked there on Sunday. This is a couple of Sundays ago. I was shocked to see that there was a bright pink car. But clearly, to use my new favorite word, rattle, canned pink. It's on its side, the truck. And so it's on its side so that the wheels are facing the park. And the top of the car is facing me. When I look out my driver's side window to the left, I'm seeing the top of the car. I'm seeing the trunk is open with a bunch of stuff coming out of it. I'm seeing a young woman who looks like she might have rattle canned her car pink sitting on the ground looking very calmly. But. And there are two police officers standing there and a car with its. In a cop car with its lights flashing. And I saw it all so quickly, and I had to take it in quickly. And I couldn't be a. Look at me, Louie. And I couldn't turn around or anything. Is the weirdness of this area. But it's lived in my head. Kind of like a flashing scene in Lost highway or some other flash thing.
Luke Burbank
I know I've overused the David Lynchian sort of thing recently, but that sounds very Lynching.
Andrew Walsh
She had this big plastic wig. Okay, okay, yeah. Yes. And there were. There were three singers singing an old 50s tune behind her. No, but it really was. It was like one of those things.
Luke Burbank
Stockwell there.
Andrew Walsh
Yes, he was, but weirdly, he was saying, ziggy, Ziggy, you got to. Ziggy says, you got to go back. Sam. Not my best Dean Stockwell, but also not my worst. You should have. You should have heard it before. You should have heard the other Dean Stockwell. Anyway, it was just a lot to take in in a split second. And it was afternoon, too. It would have been really weird if it was nighttime. I do not know if the young woman who I'm taking to be the owner of the car. I'm guessing the driver of the car. I don't know if she was handcuffed. That's the thing. I remember thinking, like oh, she looks like she's just sitting amongst her things that are kind of piling out of the trunk. Like she, like she decided to flip her car and then have maybe a drug induced picnic or something there. It was a very strange scene, but she might have been cuffed and maybe just looking calm because her arms were behind her back. I don't know. It all went by very, very quickly.
Luke Burbank
So it's your sense that this car got on its side because of basically an auto accident of sorts, Maybe a one car accident. I don't know if you've been hearing about these one car accidents lately.
Andrew Walsh
I don't know if it's video games.
Luke Burbank
Or what do you think it was video games or what?
Andrew Walsh
Really good point. This is exactly, this is exactly what.
Luke Burbank
Scott Hoy has been talking about. No, but in, in all seriousness, so sorry. It is crazy that we're just. It is insane that we're discussing one on this of all weeks, on this, the day of my daughter's wedding. But seriously, the only logical explanation of how this car got this way is somebody was driving it. They sort of swerved in such a way that it got up on its side because otherwise you would have had to get a team of circus strongmen to push it up on its side, which would make no sense.
Andrew Walsh
And I feel like you'd flip it the other way and it is sort of up on a hill there. Because if you can picture it, if you are going the wrong way on that road because it's kind of two way up until the very end and it's like that last little weird block there, like they have built out this little like preventative sort of curb in the road.
Luke Burbank
Chicane's more of a bump.
Andrew Walsh
I think it's like a rattle chicane. Anyway, so they have it kind of. So I could see this person maybe like driving too quickly maybe. Again, I don't want to stereotype up just based on some of the indicators that I saw. This person could potentially have not been sober. You know, like kind of going.
Luke Burbank
Was it the rattlesnake pink car up on its side that might have.
Andrew Walsh
Yes. Right.
Luke Burbank
Tipped you off.
Andrew Walsh
The, the bong with the scary clown face on it coming out of the trunk.
Luke Burbank
Dead giveaway. Yeah.
Andrew Walsh
I don't know. So but I could see this person maybe kind of coming up maybe realizing at the last minute, oh, this is a one way or just not knowing or maybe even just going for a bad parking job maybe was up on the hill. I could also see a bunch of weirdos maybe saying, hey, wouldn't it be funny if we flipped your, your car? Sabrina? I don't know. I'm calling her Sabrina. I don't know why a lot of weird stuff happens in that area.
Luke Burbank
Uh huh. It's interesting because like if you, if you offered me a million dollars to either flip a car or get it up on its side, I wouldn't even know how to begin.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah.
Luke Burbank
Like I wouldn't know how to, I don't mean like physically push it, I mean to do that while driving, you know.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah.
Luke Burbank
It like in all of my, in all of my. Maybe just because I'm a kind of a, a Hans Mollman style of driver, but like in all my driving, I don't think, and I'm, you know, 48 years old, I've. I don't think I've ever had a car up on even, you know, almost two wheels.
Andrew Walsh
Like that's just, I don't think that's like most people.
Luke Burbank
Well, I don't know. I mean your cars flip over.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah.
Luke Burbank
You know, you'll see that occasionally. You'll see that on the like, you know, on the freeway or something, like down in the ravine or whatever. Like I, I've personally witnessed, I'd say 10 to 15 cars that were flipped in my life.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah. You know, through driving, seeing them, that.
Luke Burbank
Just seems like a lot to me. Like considering how it's never even been close to a possibility for me.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah, yeah, me neither. Luckily, if anything it would have been during like a, some sort of snow event in Cleveland maybe like parking on some weird thing or sliding down some weird thing. Luckily I have not been. Yeah, I've been really lucky when it comes to that stuff. But yeah, this was a real, this was a real mystery. And I'll tell you what, if it was at nighttime, it would have been right out of Lost Highway.
Luke Burbank
I seriously, just like a couple of fires burning.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah, right. And a guy with no eyebrows nearby silently. Yes.
Luke Burbank
It's gone though now, right? The pink car.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah, it was gone like pretty quickly. I never saw it again. That's why. And again I should mention this, I was saying that the driver of the car, you know, could have been impaired. I was tripping so hard.
Luke Burbank
Sure.
Andrew Walsh
Like I needed.
Luke Burbank
You were on a lot of Dramamine.
Andrew Walsh
Because I was going, did anyone hand you a condom? Somebody removed it from their eye and handed it to me and said, follow me. And I said left it. It's so left eye. Left eye, not lefty. Sorry.
Luke Burbank
Wouldn't it be funny if it Was. It was T Boss, Chili and Lefty.
Andrew Walsh
Lefty.
Luke Burbank
It's like one guy playing like. Like one guy playing an upright bass. Tlc. That's Lefty.
Andrew Walsh
She's a soft toss. And Lefty. All right. That's all I got. The show. It occurred. I don't. I haven't done my homework. I haven't done prep, so I don't know what we're gonna do.
Luke Burbank
I like this new kind of, you know, shoot from the hip blurs day thing where we're just, you know, it's basically. It's farm to table.
Andrew Walsh
Yes.
Luke Burbank
You know, coming right out of the not ultra processed. It's like. It is a. It's the it. You've pulled it. You've pulled these blurs days right out of the earth. And you're present. They might have a little dirt on them. You're presenting them to the listeners. Basically minutes from being pulled out of the ground.
Andrew Walsh
That's right. And they're dirty. They're dirty, Luke.
Luke Burbank
Okay, the hair. Dad, Go back and listen to episode 3240. Yeah, it all makes sense. We was hoping for some razzle dazzle. Razzle dazzle. That's right, man. Razzle dazzle. On your mark. On your mark.
Andrew Walsh
Get set. Get set now. Ready? Ready. Go, everybody. Razzle dazzle.
Luke Burbank
All right, let's go ahead and thank those dazzling donors right now. These. These folks who I am about to honor. I do believe that is the term. They are helping TBTL exist with their donation. And the first person has helped TBTL in so many ways, including hosting us, including making this. I'll move this way. This beautiful artwork behind me, Andrew, that says Madrone Hill and mine, which is.
Andrew Walsh
Almost always behind me in the camera there, you can see the TBTL woodcut back there.
Luke Burbank
Talking about Jamie Nettles in Columbus, Mississippi. In the pronunciation, Jamie says Jamie, and then net tulls and then says, the sewists will get this. And that leads me to believe that is some kind of a sewing reference that I do not pick up.
Andrew Walsh
That confusing me, because now I'm thinking it's needles, because sewers use needles.
Luke Burbank
But. But look at the. I mean, net tolls.
Andrew Walsh
No, it's got to be nettles.
Luke Burbank
I'm just saying needles would be the more obvious. Yeah, the more obvious.
Andrew Walsh
Sorry to confuse.
Luke Burbank
Listen, since Joanne shut down, none of us have been the same. I don't know where to go for my notions.
Andrew Walsh
Genevieve. Actually, I wanted RIP the other day. She went in there to get some patterns or something. It was a total disaster. Area.
Luke Burbank
I actually wanted to talk about this tomorrow on the show. Jamie, this is on you. My friend. When you said the sewists, you sewist this and you're about to reap it as a listener. Do you know that Joanne is not honoring gift cards now?
Andrew Walsh
Well, are they still standing? Are they totally honoring?
Luke Burbank
I mean, I think you can still get in there for the moment, basically before the doors have been shut. I just read an article today. I actually sent it to myself to talk about it tomorrow, but now I'm talking about it here. Yeah, they are, they're just, they're. If you have a gift card for Joanne fabric, you are sol, my friend.
Andrew Walsh
That is awful.
Luke Burbank
Like illegal, right?
Andrew Walsh
Yeah. You would think they might be sort of rocky fiving it at this point.
Luke Burbank
Sue me for what? Show me for what?
Andrew Walsh
Show me now.
Luke Burbank
Is that show me for what we.
Andrew Walsh
Got there and it wasn't condom related? Yes.
Luke Burbank
Thanks, Jamie. A shout out to a dog doesn't make sense in any way. A mostly deaf one at that. But I started listening when my dog Cerberus, AKA sir was a puppy. By the way, don't take Cerberus if you're allergic to Cerberus, Andrew.
Andrew Walsh
It's spelled with a C.
Luke Burbank
Jamie started listening when sir was a puppy and he is now an elderly good boy. Winding down. I've spent at least an hour a day listening to TBTL and running with our now mostly walking with him to keep him from waking me up earlier and earlier. I queued, leaving for our jog with the intro music. He would get so excited to hear it and it was always a cute party trick. Oh my gosh, Jamie, that is such a cool story.
Andrew Walsh
Heartwarming.
Luke Burbank
So Jamie would play the TBTL intro music and sir would like perk up because he identified it or even still identifies it with we're going out.
Andrew Walsh
And then she would play the Blurs day music for me. Be like, are you kidding me? We're still doing this? Come on, man.
Luke Burbank
And he'd be like, I don't think Andrew prepped.
Andrew Walsh
It's just really falling down on the job lately. Jamie.
Luke Burbank
Jamie says I suspect our time together won't last much longer. But after 15 years we still get up and go rain or shine. And I still look forward to TBTL getting me ready to face the world. Ah, Jamie, we appreciate you so much. Remember also Jamie won the bizarro contest of Jamie was patient zero of the spread spread the disease that is TBTL to as many people as possible, I believe.
Andrew Walsh
Also she was a coven super Spreader, right? Or no, no, I'm sorry. I'm looking at the notes wrong. I'm looking at the notes wrong. That is not a fact.
Luke Burbank
Sorry. Was there a point where Jamie was. I think this is a Mandela thing. But. But she wasn't driving down the street playing it out of her car like somebody running for dog catcher in 19, 1950s.
Andrew Walsh
No, but she did somebody who.
Luke Burbank
Like to like Ike.
Andrew Walsh
She got a local, I think her. Her like cafe or something.
Luke Burbank
That was it. Through the business.
Andrew Walsh
A whole business. A whole bunch of annoyed people who just wanted their. Their coffee and their flat whites. Is that. Is that a thing? Had to listen to us.
Luke Burbank
Not in Columbus.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah, maybe not in Columbus, but anyway. Yeah, she. When you were going over Jamie's accolades before, I was going to say she also is the person who has. Has. Like. At least I'm gonna use the word exposed. I know you told me not to use that word on the show anymore, but exposed the most people to TBTL if not converted them.
Luke Burbank
Yes. I don't know what the conversion rate is, but I know that the number of people that. That heard TBTL for even a moment because of Jamie, it's. Well, that's why she won the contest. That's why Jamie won the incredible honor of us showing up at her house. Probably a little ripe from the road.
Andrew Walsh
Yes.
Luke Burbank
To host an episode of the show in her house. Little Sunstroke Studio.
Andrew Walsh
That's right. And I just remember everybody freaking out about the Chicken drawer. I know we've. We've.
Luke Burbank
I'm guilty.
Andrew Walsh
A lot of ink on that. But, like, I'm guilty of it. I remember. I mean, listen, I'm not guilty of anything. It's an amazing thing to have a chicken drawer. It was just that, you know, at a certain point, it became clear that the Chicken Drawer was the star of the show, and we were sort of the opening act for Chicken Drawers.
Luke Burbank
We were told that it was going to say TBTL with Luke and Andrew, and then the subheading was going to be featuring the chicken Drawer. We got there. The chicken drawer had top.
Andrew Walsh
Yes. So you do understand and you do remember this. Well, thank you. Yes. It was a little.
Luke Burbank
It was the RV in Style Resorts Chicken Drawer featuring TBTL with Luke and Andrew.
Andrew Walsh
That's right. With Luke featuring Andrew, which I got two featured. Yeah, I was really buried.
Luke Burbank
It was with Luke.
Andrew Walsh
Featuring special guests Rattle Can, Rattle can and Chicken Drawer.
Luke Burbank
Yep. Rattle Can.
Andrew Walsh
Any really. I do feel like we're kind of getting in some 90s grunge territory. Like, couldn't you see yourself going to chop suey in the late 90s, you saw rattle can and Chicken Drawer?
Luke Burbank
Well, there was. Yeah. Oh, 100. There was a band called Rattletrap.
Andrew Walsh
Oh, really? There you go.
Luke Burbank
Back in the day. And there was Hammerbox. And then there was also. Hammerbox was a big one. And then I worked at Bumpy's Fruit and Yogurt with a guy, Eric Aho was his name. And he was in not Hammerbox, but another grunge band in Seattle that was kind of popular, that had box in the name. There's a lot of box related bands back in the day.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah, yeah, I feel like anyway, you could create one of those like online randomized grunge band makers. Anyway, back to Jamie here.
Luke Burbank
Jamie says, I am so grateful to you all for keeping the mood to quiet desperation and not utter panic. I can only absorb so much reality. You and me both, Jamie. Thank you to my TBTL friends, to IRL and online. P.S. if any listeners know Glitter Fox, tell them they need to come play at Sunstroke House when they come south. Funny you'd mention it, Jamie. We're doing a livewire pop up at Kiln in Portland in July and Glitter Fox is the band. When I see them in July, I will tell them to stop by Sunstroke Studio.
Andrew Walsh
Hey. Wow. That.
Luke Burbank
I mean, you know what I mean?
Andrew Walsh
Dazzling donor message is really painful answer.
Luke Burbank
Yeah, I am literally going to be spending time with the fine folks from Glitter Fox. Jamie and I will tell them all about Sunstroke Studio and then later the Chicken Drawer. But I'm gonna low key that so that they don't get upstaged by the Chicken Drawer like so many have before.
Andrew Walsh
So many tiers of performers.
Luke Burbank
Yes. No Mountain Too Tall. Signed Jamie. Thanks, Jamie. Appreciate you always. Maestro, on your mark, on your mark.
Andrew Walsh
Get set now.
Luke Burbank
Ready, ready, go. Look who it is. It's Nicole Giuliani in Eugene, Oregon. Nicole says in the pronunciation part of the message, same as Rudy, but still no relation. Nicole is down in Eugene, Oregon. I've got a. I got a whole thing on Eugene, Oregon right now.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah, yeah.
Luke Burbank
It's not a good thing, not interesting thing. The other day, Becca and I were on a walk and we were talking about the. The New York Times food writer Pete Wells, who had been the restaurant reviewer. Remember he got kind of a lot of attention when he stepped away from the restaurant beat because his like, his levels, you know, his, his blood markers were really, really out of whack from eating all of the really food.
Andrew Walsh
I don't remember this.
Luke Burbank
He did a lot of kind of exit interviews about, like, the actual physical toll it can take on a person to be a restaurant reviewer.
Andrew Walsh
Oh, interesting. And of course, the.
Luke Burbank
You.
Andrew Walsh
Your upper lip goes bad because of all the fake mustaches you have to wear.
Luke Burbank
They call that racheling media to moderate Racheling.
Andrew Walsh
That's pretty good.
Luke Burbank
But so, like. Like two days ago, Becca and I are on a walk, and we're. For some reason, we're. Oh, because Pete Wells had been doing an interview somewhere because he famously, like his. Maybe his most known piece in the New York Times when he just really went to town on the, like, Guy Fieri restaurant in Times Square.
Andrew Walsh
Okay.
Luke Burbank
Like, he just wrote a pretty scathing review of it. And I think he was on a podcast. Becca listens to tons of, like, cooking and food podcasts. I think he was on, like, Milk street or something. Pete Wells was.
Andrew Walsh
And this would have been back in the day when people were piling up on Guy Fieri more, I'm assuming.
Luke Burbank
I think so. Yeah. I mean, I. And I think that the issue was that the food was. Was, in Pete Wells's opinion, actually very, very bad. Like, it wasn't just like, Guy Fieri looks silly with his hair or whatever. It's, like, actual poor execution. I think that the people. I didn't hear the show, but Becca related to me. They said, do you regret writing this review? And he said, no, because it's really what I thought. But. So that's like, two days ago. Then flash forward to yesterday, Andrew. Pete Wells is checking in from Eugene, Oregon, where he's writing a story about truffles. And then he starts the piece by going, anybody associated with the movie Pig is a liar or owes me an apology because. And now guess who's associated with the movie Pig? Very sort of in a kind of glancing way. Becca, my girlfriend. She was an extra in that movie. She was sitting next to Nicolas Cage in the movie Pig for, like, two solid days as an extra in this restaurant scene. So Tuesday, we're talking about Pete Wells. Wednesday, there's a Pete Wells story that's based in Eugene, Oregon, where she went to college. And it starts by saying, anyone in the movie Pig needs to apologize to me. Which is a thing that is. Actually relates to my girlfriend.
Andrew Walsh
Did she apologize?
Luke Burbank
Yes.
Andrew Walsh
How did she get the letter to him? Wait, how old is Pig, by the way? Like, I think that is a new movie. And that was Becca in college. Really?
Luke Burbank
No, no, she went to college because she went to the University of Oregon, regrettably.
Andrew Walsh
This wasn't when she was in college.
Luke Burbank
No, this was like a. No, this was probably like four years ago.
Andrew Walsh
Okay. Yeah. Because I thought Pig was a relatively new movie. I have not. I have not seen it. It seems like it's weird. It might be up my alley.
Luke Burbank
I really liked it. I mean, it's, you know, it's Nicolas Cage. So there is a weird gratuitous scene where he has to fight someone in the. What are called the. Like the tunnels under Portland, which are a real thing. You know, they had these tunnels back in the turn of the century, I think, and I think they were used by. By maybe people that were in the restaurant industry, particularly people that. Chinese restaurants. I think they're called like the Chinese tunnels or something.
Andrew Walsh
Okay.
Luke Burbank
But it's. I think it's a pretty interesting movie. Pretty entertaining movie, but it just was funny. This all brings you back to Nicole Giuliani being in Eugene, Oregon. I don't know if Nicole saw Pete Wells wandering around looking for truffles. The point of Wells is opening graph was that the movie Pig makes you think that people in Oregon are finding truffles with a pig. Because the premise of that movie is Nicholas Cage was like a kind of a, you know, James Beard award winning chef in Portland, and then he lost it all. And now he's living out in the wilderness of Oregon with this beloved pig. And this pig is beloved or beloved because it can find truffles for him. And then somebody steals his pig and then Nicholas Cage has to go down to Portland and rattle some traps, rattle some cages, rattle some cans and get his pig back.
Andrew Walsh
Well, then what is Daddy Long Legs about? Or whatever.
Luke Burbank
That I don't know. But even two seconds of that movie gives me a terror.
Andrew Walsh
Well, that's the thing. I only. I only know of those two movies. You. I now know more about Pig. I've learned more about Pig in the past 30 seconds than I've known my whole life. Right. And it's been out for a few years. All I knew was it was sort of dark. I thought that pig was sort of dark and upsetting. Maybe I'm wrong about that. No. And then there's. It's not at all legs. And then it's long. It's not Daddy Long Legs. No, no.
Luke Burbank
I would watch a movie about a huge spider that terrorizes the town before I would watch Long Legs. It is. I don't know what is going on with Nicolas Cage in that movie, but it is terrifying.
Andrew Walsh
Daddy's home too. Long Legs. Is that the movie I think I'm confusing those two movies and Adam Sandler with Nicholas Cage. Yes.
Luke Burbank
Okay, okay, back to Nicole's message in Eugene, Oregon. Yes, I am in the very privileged position to be able to be a dazzling donor for many years running now. And that means I've been able to support my favorite podcast. Rawr. But I've totally run out of dazzling things to say. Not awesome. I should pre read these. I could have had those drops ready. I'm sorry, Nicole. So I'll just share my ongoing appreciation for this podcast and community. I've been listening since the late radio days and TBTL has carried me through almost all of my major life events. You are my ear friendos day in and day out, and this community provides support and hope to so many of us. I am so grateful to be part of this weird little world and to help keep it going. And one of these days, I may even make it to a live event. Yeah, Nicole, you've. You've more than supported the show. And now it's time for you to reap the benefits of keeping TBTL going by getting to get eyes on me and Andrew, AKA Long Legs.
Andrew Walsh
Now, just together, we're known as Long Legs.
Luke Burbank
Put two of us in a trench coat, we equal one. Long Legs.
Andrew Walsh
Just so you know. I mean, and I do hope you make it out to a live show. But just so you know, Nicole, I'm not allowed on the main stage anymore. Apparently they keep on putting me further and further away from where the action is. I don't know if you heard in Philly, they put me up in like some sort of a balcony somewhere and made me cover my face.
Luke Burbank
Probably the funniest thing, I guess we're in 2025 now. And that was. Was that 2024 when we did that?
Andrew Walsh
That was September of 2024. Yeah.
Luke Burbank
I will say that one of the funniest things I saw in 2024 was you emerging in your outfit. I have a feeling in the could not stop laughing.
Andrew Walsh
I was ready for that moment. But then there was something about the moment I walked out. I got flushed or something. And then suddenly because I had to wear my glasses over the top of.
Luke Burbank
My fogging a mess.
Andrew Walsh
And then I was like, I was all ready. I was all ready. But then at the very last minute, suddenly my glasses just totally fogged up and I've already got this mask on. I'm trying to keep the glass. I shudder to think of what that moment must have looked like, but I'm glad it made.
Luke Burbank
You were pretty far away. So, like, if you hadn't pointed it out, people wouldn't know your glasses were fogging.
Andrew Walsh
I was just. I was just stumbling around, though. I couldn't see anything.
Luke Burbank
You added to the humor. The door that you emerged from into that balcony with the cape on, the whole thing, it was great. I really appreciate you committing to that bit.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah, sure.
Luke Burbank
Jamie. Excuse me. Nicole says I may even make it to a live event. Thank you, Luke, Andrew, and John, for all that you do. Thank you for all that you've done, Nicole. We really do appreciate it. We. We couldn't do this without you, so thank you for the support. Hello, and welcome to Top Story. Now, speaking of dazzling donors, Andrew, I want to clarify something. I want to correct a mistake that we made yesterday, and it actually relates to our top story because guess what? Remember yesterday? I remember it like it was yesterday, Andrew.
Andrew Walsh
Sort of. Yes.
Luke Burbank
We were reading a thank you to a dazzling donor, our friend, I believe, Lisa. Right. In Jarris in Ohio.
Andrew Walsh
Yes, in Lakewood.
Luke Burbank
And we were talking about Lisa's podcast. Lisa does a podcast about the Olympics and the Paralympics. And we were reading what I thought was the URL for Lisa's podcast. And I even had the thought as I was reading, and I was like, well, the show is Flame Alive. Why would the website not reflect the name of the show? And I did not trust my instincts. I did not trust the still small voice. So yesterday, I erroneously read the wrong web address for Lisa's podcast. So I want to give the real address, which is flamealivepod.com. so the word flame, We've seen that word before. Alive. We've also seen that word. And then pod. These are three words we're familiar with.
Andrew Walsh
Well, pod is an abbreviation of a longer word, right.
Luke Burbank
PodCard. Flame alive. Pod. I believe I left the A out.
Andrew Walsh
Yes. Yes, it was. You're taking a lot of heat. It wasn't in the copy at the time. I just want to throw that out there.
Luke Burbank
We are giving. But I had a feeling. I was like, why would the. I knew something was off.
Andrew Walsh
But the name of the show is Keep the Flame Alive. That's the name of the podcast. So that's how you remember flame alive. Pod.com. yeah. As we were reading it, I'm like, oh, you know, I like to check it out. And I was clicking on the link and it was going to a dead end. I was like, what? How do we fix this? And I couldn't fix it live on the air because I wasn't sure what was going on. And I didn't have the deductive skills.
Luke Burbank
Meanwhile, I was. I saw your email to John to say, hey, can we double check this?
Andrew Walsh
Oh, yeah. Because I sent that during the show.
Luke Burbank
And then I double checked it and figured out what we had done wrong. And then I sent John a message saying, oh, here's what it actually is. And then John had already sent a message just to you directly. It was a comedy of errors.
Andrew Walsh
Yes. All while we were recording the show.
Luke Burbank
I think that's right. So if it sounded a little funky, not in a good way yesterday, that's what was going on. And this is the thing. Andrew, Jamie. Excuse me. Lisa is also the person who sent a link to what is the top story today? I mean, what are the chances. Hat tip to our friend Lisa of the Flame Alive podcast. Keep the Flame Alive. What's it called again?
Andrew Walsh
Flame Alive Pod is where you're going to want to go. That is the website.
Luke Burbank
Lisa is the one who sent us this article from the Athletic, which I don't pay for, by the way. I pay for the New York Times, but not the Athletic. It's an extra. No, it's a little. It's a. It's a Lagniope. It isn't. I don't have the. I don't have full. You, I believe to get all of it, which includes New York Times cooking and the Athletic, I think you have to pay at a higher tier than I'm paying.
Andrew Walsh
Are you surprised to hear that we are paying that higher tier?
Luke Burbank
Because I am.
Andrew Walsh
I mean, what was it a couple of years ago? They just said, hey, the Athletic is now part of the New York Times and it's part of your subscription and it's been really great. Great.
Luke Burbank
Well, maybe I am. I don't know.
Andrew Walsh
I bet you if you just. You might. I think you have to set up a separate account potentially, if you want to use the app, but I don't know, we can.
Luke Burbank
Let me ask you this. Do you guys get the New York Times cooking stuff?
Andrew Walsh
I believe so, yes.
Luke Burbank
So I think you're at a higher.
Andrew Walsh
Okay, well, there you go.
Luke Burbank
I keep trying.
Andrew Walsh
I'll share that with you. What are you trying to share me? You can give me the.
Luke Burbank
I'll give you an Apple tv. That'd be good for you. With severance.
Andrew Walsh
I know.
Luke Burbank
You can pause it.
Andrew Walsh
No, it's like a real boy. We should just have the. Well, whatever. We. We should. Never mind.
Luke Burbank
Okay. This is an article from the Athletic. New Era. Texas Rangers Hat Now. New Era is a company that makes hats.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah, they're the.
Luke Burbank
They are like Rick Abbott has not taken over the Texas Rangers as of yet. There's not a New era for the Texas Rangers.
Andrew Walsh
Right. New Era, I'm pretty sure are the. The is the main company that makes all of the official MLB hats.
Luke Burbank
And I remember New Era, you know, when I was, you know, a kid, when I was in middle school and, and I wanted to get a new cap at the pro image at Northgate Mall. That's New Era. They were the ones that made the fitted baseball caps. You know, the kind of like, like not the snapback or whatever they call it, like the fitted hat. That was the. That was the move. Anyway, these hats that New Era has made for the MLB this year are having some problems. The headline is New Era Texas Rangers Hat Bearing Accidental Spanish Vulgarity Disappears from Online shops up. So they decided. Andrew, I don't want to dampen the spirit of creativity, but I do think that if you are tasked with coming up with some new to do on a baseball hat a hundred plus years into this, there's just nothing left to do under the sun. And so then you start doing stuff like whatever this person did or team of people did at New Era, which was to take these. The. The names of the cities where these baseball teams are and then take the first letter in their. In the cities. Like the. The city's not first name, but like the. So for instance, the Texas Rangers, it says Texas. And then in the middle of the word Texas has a huge T. Yes, I think, because T is the first letter in Texas.
Andrew Walsh
Yes, yes and no. Let me clean that up for you a little bit, please. I've been following this for a while. It's. Yeah, it's the team logo. And in many cases the team logo is a letter. So most of these or two letters, in the case of LA or New York. Right. So a lot of these are. They just look like weird misspellings. It's like the official font spelling out the name of the city right behind it. And then the logo stamped right in the middle of it, covering up some of those letters. But when the logo is another letter, it makes like it looks a new word. Yeah. Because I'm thinking of the Mariners cap. It just says Mariners. But then right in the middle of it, they slap the letter S. Because that's the logo. Yeah. So it looks like. So it looks like masers. And the Astros have a big H covering up the T. And it looks an R. And so it looks like ashos or ash hose. Yes. Which sounds filthy.
Luke Burbank
It Sounds and also couldn't happen to a nicer team.
Andrew Walsh
There are three teams it works for because their logo isn't letters. And it is. I know we have a rivalry, but the Blue Jays and the Orioles and the Brewers. Gotcha. They're not perfect, but they're the only three that work. Because there's, like, you see the Orioles and then a bird face kind of covering up some of the letters. That's fine. But when you take letters and you say brewers as well, and the brewers is a mitt. Yep. So it's the mitt over top of, I think, the word Brewers. And then. And then, of course, the. The Orioles and then the Blue Jays. Looks pretty sweet, honestly.
Luke Burbank
Honestly, the Braves one isn't terrible because their logo is an A.
Andrew Walsh
So it's just like a bigger A.
Luke Burbank
A bigger A over where the other A is.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah, yeah.
Luke Burbank
But that is not the case for a lot of the teams, including, as we already talked about, the Texas Rangers, where it's the word Texas and then it's a huge T over the X, which is where your eye goes immediately. And it just looks like tatas, which it turns out is, you know, boobs in Spanish.
Andrew Walsh
Yes. Like, which makes it honestly one of the most sought after hats. Oh, I believe it's already.
Luke Burbank
It's already pulled down, sadly. Did you see last year that they did one for the Oakland Athletics that was like A's. It's like a apostrophe s and then another S. Because it's. Again, this is what I'm talking about with graphic design, which is my passion. You know, this. It's like they're out of ideas because every year it's like a. You know, it's like a company that has to continually increase profits. It's like it drives you crazy because it's like, well, I don't know. We're. We're. We're selling as much of this stuff as we can. It's like you're the new era hat person. And they're like, do something totally new.
Andrew Walsh
With these hats because we have to sell more. Like, we have already sell more hats.
Luke Burbank
It's like, what if we put ass on it?
Andrew Walsh
Okay, yeah, that A's one. I don't understand how nobody saw that.
Luke Burbank
Like, it's insane. It's ass.
Andrew Walsh
Yes, it is. Like all of these new ones this year, like, they're. They're ugly. Like, there's a bad design idea anyway. And then the tatas thing is kind of like, well, the double meaning there would be lost on you. If you're. But I'm also, you know, baseball, a sport that has no Spanish speakers in it. Like, who could have caught that?
Luke Burbank
And Texas, a famous. Famously a place that does not have many Spanish speakers in it.
Andrew Walsh
Right.
Luke Burbank
So the Astros, as we mentioned, it looks basically like as hos. As hoes. The Angels, because it's. They are. Their logo is an A with a halo on it. They used to be called the Halos. Do they still call them the Halos.
Andrew Walsh
As a nickname though, Right? Yeah, yeah, I've heard that.
Luke Burbank
I've. You know, I've.
Andrew Walsh
Seems like a Rick Riz thing.
Luke Burbank
I've droned on. He used to call the White Sox the Pale Hose. For real?
Andrew Walsh
Oh, really?
Luke Burbank
Yeah, for real. Like the White Sox.
Andrew Walsh
Oh, I was gonna.
Luke Burbank
That was a nickname for the White Sox from the.
Andrew Walsh
From the north side of the Bay Area.
Luke Burbank
I am confused as to the location, in case you're curious. If you have not listened to a Mariners play by play broadcast, you know why Andrew and I constantly talk about the south side of Chicago? It's because it's where our play by play guy, Rick Riz, is from. And when the Mariners have the misfortune to go play the Chicago White Sox, who are located on the south side of Chicago, it's a drink. If you did this as a drinking game, you would get alcohol poisoning.
Andrew Walsh
That's right.
Luke Burbank
The number of times that Rick Riz talks about it being on the south side of Chicago.
Andrew Walsh
Yes. And him growing up playing in sandlots, he's just like it gets. And again, I don't want to speak ill of the man. He's carried the Mariner's torch for a long time.
Luke Burbank
He was recently beamed in the head.
Andrew Walsh
By a foul ball in some of the most upsetting baseball sound I've heard.
Luke Burbank
I wanted to play the audio and then I listened to it and then we both agreed. Not a good idea.
Andrew Walsh
Septuagenarian. Just getting nailed by a baseball and then trying to croak out I'm okay. Was not fun sound to hear.
Luke Burbank
Upsetting.
Andrew Walsh
But with all due respect, like the romanticism of his, like him growing up playing stickball in the. In the sand lots with Jackie Robinson. He said he was in the middle of a cornfield and he just built. His dad just built a field. I've never seen Field of Dreams. Anyway. Yeah, it's getting pretty. It's getting pretty gauzy. His. His memory of his baseball year. Youth.
Luke Burbank
My. My. My rant that I always bring up about the Anaheim Angels is of course, the fact that Artie Moreno, the owner of the Angels. They were the California Angels when I was a kid.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah.
Luke Burbank
Which was fine. And they've been. I think they've been located in Anaheim for maybe their whole existence. And in order to get this stadium built, I think it's Edison Field. I don't know if it's still called that or not, but it's RV in style.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah, I know. I've never heard Edison Fields, so I don't think that's it.
Luke Burbank
Is that not what they called anymore? It was. It was at some point called Edison or.
Andrew Walsh
I never heard. I'm going to look it up here.
Luke Burbank
So Artie Moreno, the owner of the Anaheim Angels, wanted to change their name. Well, he wanted to get a stadium built. And. And so he got the citizens of Anaheim to pay for this expensive stadium. And the one thing that the citizens of Anaheim, I. E. Their representative said was, you got. You can't. You have to call them the Anaheim Angels. And he agreed to do that. And of course, he then called them the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Andrew Walsh
That's right.
Luke Burbank
Because it was in the name. What they didn't have the foresight to say was Anaheim has to be the first city mentioned in the name of the team. They didn't do that because it was so preposterous that it wouldn't be. And he went ahead and called them the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Well, anyway, when you put this, a logo over Angels, you get what looks like a kind of a weird spelling of anals.
Andrew Walsh
That one. I don't know if I noticed that one. One.
Luke Burbank
It's it's just odd. It's just.
Andrew Walsh
It's just bad design anyway. It's just ugly.
Luke Burbank
The Diamondbacks look like Ariana, which also, by the way, not terrible. If you're an Ariana Grande fan, that's pretty smart.
Andrew Walsh
Or can I just say something?
Luke Burbank
Tan mom says it. Alana Gandhi. That's just for Phyllis.
Andrew Walsh
By the way, it's now called Angel Stadium, which is nice. That's very clean. I love that. And just so you know, this is interesting. It was called Anaheim Stadium. It's in. Since it was built in 1966 through 97, then 98 to 2003, it was called Edison International Field of Anaheim.
Luke Burbank
No way.
Andrew Walsh
RVN no, for real. Edison International Field of anaheim. That was 98 to 2003. And apparently, I guess after 2003 it went back to Angel Stadium, which is really. I give them credit for that because I'm not a. I don't know if I'm being rude to Angels fans out there. I'm not a huge fan of the Angels. The rivalry between them and the Mariners has gotten pretty ugly at times with them, like, purposely trying, like, putting out pictures in the first inning, specifically just to be in one of our players. Like, it was just like. There's some ugly stuff that I can't let go of from a couple of seasons ago. But I like this. The address. Do you want to guess the address of Angel Stadium?
Luke Burbank
Is it, like, on. Like, on Walt Disney Way or something?
Andrew Walsh
Very close. It's Gene Autry Way. It's 2000 Gene Autry Way.
Luke Burbank
Gene Autry, I believe, was an early owner of. Of the California Angels, Right?
Andrew Walsh
Yes. That's why. Of course. Yeah.
Luke Burbank
And do you know that when I worked at KVI Radio and it was owned by Golden West, Gene Autry was the owner of the radio station.
Andrew Walsh
You have told me that our Christmas.
Luke Burbank
Bonus was cowboy boots from Gene Autry the Singing Cowboy.
Andrew Walsh
I hope you still have.
Luke Burbank
I do not have them. And I am so mad. I am so mad about that.
Andrew Walsh
He was the founding owner, so that's. He was cool. Yeah.
Luke Burbank
So anyway, I mean, I don't know how much more we have to add to the story other than to say, you know, how. It's just like, I guess if you stare at something. I know groupthink is a very odd. Is a very odd phenomenon. Right. Because, like, it must have been the case, like, that the team. The design team coming up with this, they were just, like, almost like they were standing too close to it. Like, if they would have taken one step back, they would have been like, oh, wait, oh, I'm sorry, Tetas. Oh, I'm sorry. Annals. Like. Like. But it's like they were just, like, they agreed that this is what they were going to do, and then they were. They were so locked in that, like, nobody. I just can't believe that somebody didn't walk into the room when these were all mocked up like an early custodian.
Andrew Walsh
Even if it was just. Even if it was just pencil on paper, how were you not seeing how this is going to turn out?
Luke Burbank
And, you know, my guess is that the designers would have been annoyed, like.
Andrew Walsh
If, like, if it's pencil and paper anymore. Just occurred to me. I think mockups probably begin on computer. Sure.
Luke Burbank
But, like, I could totally see the scene where, like, you know, these designers are. Are smart, talented, creative people, and they're. Again, they're tasked with something kind of impossible, which is, like, reinvent the baseball cap. Like, look, it's like, I don't know, put the name of the team on there. Like, how do we. I mean that. This is what you get when you're trying to iterate past what makes any sense. Right? But we, like, if their boss would have walked in and saw this and went, you guys, this is terrible. Or not, this is terrible, but this can't work. They would have been so annoyed because they would have been like a month into the process. But that would have been the right advice. Because any normal person looking at this is like, this is a very bad idea.
Andrew Walsh
I wonder if this actually was top down or something. Like, it's one of those things where, like, could the boss have saved it? Or did the boss say, hey, I have this idea and I don't know who the boss is, but some powerful person in the organization.
Luke Burbank
Tony Anil.
Andrew Walsh
That you cannot say. You cannot say Tony assholes. He's like, what's wrong? I don't understand.
Luke Burbank
This is really working.
Andrew Walsh
Do you know, one of my. And I don't know if this holds up at all, but I remember when I was in high school or younger, maybe even in junior high, there was, I believe at the time, a new SNL sketch that made me and my friend Tony laugh.
Luke Burbank
Is this a Nicholas Cage thing?
Andrew Walsh
Was he in. Yes, Mr. Asweepe. I forgot that that's Nicolas Cage. I just remembered it. I just remembered it as a couple sitting on their couch and they're. And I think the woman is pregnant, and they're like, having a conversation about what to name the kid. And every idea that the woman suggests, he's like, oh, well, we can just turn that into an insult. And he imagines how kids would, like, twist and just butcher these names into somehow being an insult. And it gets more and more ridiculous. And then, yeah, the first few are actually like.
Luke Burbank
Like he kind of has a point. But then he's, like, torturing. He's torturing the idea, you know, as the names are like, you know, Joe or something. And he's just, like, saying these ridiculous things that no one would ever say. And then, of course, the payoff is.
Andrew Walsh
At the very end. Here, let me, let me, Let me play a little bit of this. And then we'll tell you what happens at the end. Because it's five and a half minutes long. I don't think we can play the whole. So I hear the food's not bad in there. He's talking to her belly. Well, stay calm. We'll get you out in a few weeks. Oh, sweetheart, you're not missing anything. It's raining outside. It's Julia Sweeney. Wow. Just a few more weeks. I know. You know, honey, we should really start trying to settle on a name. I really could have cut into this further. I set all this up already. You should have picked one by now, don't you think? Well, sure, but it's a difficult thing, you know? Well, if we could just focus on it a little bit, Please. What?
Luke Burbank
Sure.
Andrew Walsh
I've got no problem. I'm thrilled to do this.
Luke Burbank
Let's just do it.
Andrew Walsh
Okay? Well, I was thinking about Joseph.
Luke Burbank
Joseph?
Andrew Walsh
Yeah, Joseph. Joseph. Well, it's a nice name, but the kids are gonna call him Joe Blow.
Luke Burbank
I mean, as long as you know that. Or Sloppy Joe.
Andrew Walsh
You know, how are Mr. And Mrs. Schmuck? Well, I guess that's true. I mean, it's a nice name, but. Well, that's okay. That's all right. Well, how about John? That's nice and simple.
Luke Burbank
What? Are you serious?
Andrew Walsh
Well, yeah.
Luke Burbank
John.
Andrew Walsh
You want to do that to the kid? Do what? Hey, John. Hey, let's go to the John, huh? John, let's go. Okay, so we see where this is going. I want to. Now, let's get to the end of the sketch. Maybe I'll try to get, like, one or two left ridiculous names in here.
Luke Burbank
You better get used to it.
Andrew Walsh
Hey, where are you going? Looking at this baby name book. I thought it could help us. How about Bjardkar, for our son? Bjardkar. B, J, A, A, R, D, K, E, R. It's Icelandic. Yeah.
Luke Burbank
Bjardker.
Andrew Walsh
That's a tough little name to crack. That could be good. Yeah. Hey, Bjarkr, little fella. You just might have a good childhood after all. Talk to you later. I love you. I love you.
Luke Burbank
You sit, honey. All right. Yes. Hi. How you doing?
Andrew Walsh
I got a telegram here for Mr. And Mrs. Asswipe Johnson. Thank you. That's us.
Luke Burbank
I'm supposed to read it?
Andrew Walsh
Dear Asswipe and Emily, congratulations on your upcoming blessed event.
Luke Burbank
All our love, Bob and Diane. Here you go, sir.
Andrew Walsh
Listen, that's Oz. We pay. What? Forget it. Forget it. It's such a good joke.
Luke Burbank
It's a solid, solid joke.
Andrew Walsh
Is that a pretty famous sketch? Did I start, like, describing what I thought?
Luke Burbank
No, it's just, I think, you know, we're the same age and, like, I think me and my friends locked in on that as well.
Andrew Walsh
You also. I don't know why I need to bring this up, but I was thinking about the show yesterday, which is something I try not to do. But. Or maybe. No, you know what it was? I was posting the show yesterday, and I was grabbing an image for our show pic, and I grabbed the image of Christopher Lloyd driving the taxi cab in that 1010, 220 commercial. And so I had to watch it again to grab the. To grab the image. And you're right at the end of it. It's so funny when he says, I'd use it if I had a phone. Like, that's a really good joke. And I'm proud of the commercial. And I'm proud of 10 10, 220 putting it in there.
Luke Burbank
Yeah, every one of those commercials. I mean, that's probably of the ones we played, that one works the best. But they all ended on a punchline.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah. Yeah. Not bad. There's a right way to rock In a wrong way to roll. You can't just listen to your song. Just remember that life is number one. You can be having so much fun. Just remember that life is much fun. You can be nothing but one. All right, you ready to blurs?
Luke Burbank
Oh, man, I was born ready.
Andrew Walsh
Born to blurs. Yeah, I. I was able to grab some of these out of my email. Ah, my email address. By the way, if people want to send it in a blurs day or a birthday message, you can email me andrew btl.net you'll put blurs day in the subject line. Bingo bango bongo. What does Kevin say? Is that what he says?
Luke Burbank
Probably. Bingo bango bongo. He also says, that's my wife.
Andrew Walsh
He does say that a lot. He's the one who brought it to the table.
Luke Burbank
He sure did.
Andrew Walsh
Here's how blursday messages go. Max wrote in to say happy belated blurs day to my longtime friend, an accidental TB tail progenitor, Katie in Seattle.
Luke Burbank
Wait a minute.
Andrew Walsh
You're an accidental progenitor?
Luke Burbank
We know Acadian Seattle whose birthday it is as well. Oh, is this the same?
Andrew Walsh
No, this is a different spelling. This is a different spelling. Whoa. Yes.
Luke Burbank
What are the chances?
Andrew Walsh
Relatively good. I have had the pleasure of calling a Friday. Katie's one of the brightest, kindest, most endearing people I have the pleasure of calling a friend. Although our paths don't cross as frequently as I'd like, when they do, it's always a complete joy and adventure often ensues. Sorry for missing the actual thurse of your blurs, but here's to celebrating many more. That's for Katie with a K in Seattle. Got a question for you, Luke.
Luke Burbank
Yes.
Andrew Walsh
Am I applying electricity rules to paths when our paths cross. When our paths cross. Is it paths?
Luke Burbank
I think paths would be wrong, but paths. No, I don't think you're saying that wrong.
Andrew Walsh
I said paths.
Luke Burbank
I think that's how we say it.
Andrew Walsh
And there's some jokers out there, Luke, I don't know if you know this, but there's some jokers out there who make fun of the way I say electricity. And so I wasn't.
Luke Burbank
I love it. I think it's so much more fun than the real way. I'm being serious.
Andrew Walsh
Arlen says. A shout out to my 11 or 11 and a half Kathy, who is in Oregon attending a guide dog school for two weeks.
Luke Burbank
Whoa.
Andrew Walsh
She's dealt with lifechanging challenges over the past five years and I love and admire her very much. We've been married for 38 years. Happy blurs day to Kathy. That's so far the Katie and a.
Luke Burbank
Kathy, both with thinking about making it serious.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah. Come on. Gotta lock that down.
Luke Burbank
38 years. Congratulations.
Andrew Walsh
That's right. Happy Thursday, Kathy. Good to that dog. Sounds so real. Good to hear from you, Harlan. See you at the grocery store. Peter says, wishing a happy birthday to Sherry in Port Townsend. She's been listening for many, many years or decades by now, never misses a show and still laughs at your jokes and silliness.
Luke Burbank
Aw, thank you.
Andrew Walsh
I like that Peter says Joe jokes there because you know my least favorite New Yorker cartoon because Genevieve laughed too hard at it. It's a guy sitting at a bar saying to the bartender, I did my joke. Something like, it's my wife. She doesn't laugh at my joke anymore. Too close to home.
Luke Burbank
That's pretty good.
Andrew Walsh
Erica says, this is my birthday wish for my mama. Maggie from the middle shelf.
Luke Burbank
Maggie.
Andrew Walsh
That's right. And Erica, one fun fact about my mama is she is always brushing her teeth. She has a beautiful and sparkling personality and loves to make sure she always has a shiny smile to match. I love you, Mama. That's a nice message. Happy birthday, Maggie.
Luke Burbank
It's a great. If you're gonna have a. A sort of a habit, you're gonna have something that you do sort of almost unconsciously brushing your teeth is a pretty good one.
Andrew Walsh
It's a good one and I like the way it matches your personality. You're like, I'm gonna be smiling a lot. That's why I keep my armpits clean. Because I always go around making that farty noise with my hand in my armpit. And so if that's gonna be my signature trait, gotta keep those puppies clean. Happy Birthday Maggie. Sorry to say all of that on your birthday. Speaking of pals, is our pal Krista in Eastlake saying happiest of blursays to Jennifer. Jennifer, it's been lovely getting to know you better in recent months. You're an inspiration and we're lucky to have you in the tens community treat yourself for your birthday. Happy birthday, Jennifer. We will see Jennifer at Rough and Tumble at some point.
Luke Burbank
Ah, yes, I told you that we illegally used their restroom once.
Andrew Walsh
No, when it was Rough and tumble. Since it's been that. No.
Luke Burbank
Becca and I were around the holidays and we were wandering around Ballard and she needed to use the restroom and Rough and Tumble was right there. But we weren't going there to like, you know, eat wings or do anything, you know, with the establishment other than use their facilities. And so I tried to distract the host while she went off and did her thing.
Andrew Walsh
Can I say something about those bathrooms?
Luke Burbank
Yes, they're great. Oh, really?
Andrew Walsh
Yes. Because, you know, they're unisex bathrooms now and so they're just like very private and just really well kept. I really like those bathrooms.
Luke Burbank
I mean, I've said this before but.
Andrew Walsh
Like they smell so nice. They have great soap.
Luke Burbank
Of the many things that are so silly to me about, like question of who's using what bathroom.
Andrew Walsh
What?
Luke Burbank
I don't know if it's video games or what. Andrew.
Andrew Walsh
What bathroom? I don't know if it's video games or what bathroom but like, who in.
Luke Burbank
The world is upset that maybe there are more places that have a private it Nice. Everyone is invited, you know, not at the same time but like bathroom that you can now go in. If the. If the point of having bathrooms that are more inclusive to folks or whatever their gender identity might be is that I get to lock a door and be by myself in a room, I am here for that.
Andrew Walsh
I am now remembering there is one thing and I'm fine with this, but this is one of those places where you can't lock the door to the whole thing. So. So there could be me. I'm just remembering this now, but because I remember like I was washing my hands and I think a woman came in to use the stall. So like you can't lock the door, but the stall itself is very secure and private.
Luke Burbank
Shared area for everybody.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah. It's not one of those things though where there's a shared area with a couple of sinks and everybody's washing their hands. It is like walking into a room and you could have a guy like me washing my hands and Then a woman go in and use the stall, like right behind me.
Luke Burbank
And can you see the feet in the stall?
Andrew Walsh
I don't think so. I remember thinking, because I'm always sort of doing the math on this a little bit because I don't have issues with it, but I grew up, you know, like, I'm kind of an older guy who grew up in a, you know, conservative household. Or I'm not somebody who's been like, super, like, secure in my, in the way I maybe in your, like what.
Luke Burbank
You'Re not secure in your poop skillinity?
Andrew Walsh
Yes, exactly. Or whatever. I'm not secure in any way I present to the world. Right. So you could see me being bashful or something in that situation.
Luke Burbank
And you don't have that.
Andrew Walsh
But I don't. But I. But I'm always sort of running it through my head of like, well, what would folks back home think about this? You know what I mean? There are certain people in my life who we don't really get into it on a political level, but I do wonder, like, what would be the level of comfort if you're like, you know, whatever. And so I'm always wondering, like, how. How would they deal with this? Because it's really nice, like I'm telling you, because everybody can use this bathroom. Like, it's just nicer. Like, the slope is nice. It's. It's very. It seems like again, the stall seems very private. I can't remember if it. If you can see the feet or not, but either way, it's. It's not an uncomfortable setting for me for whatever that.
Luke Burbank
I'm guessing that it is. It must be sufficiently private because you would. If it wasn't, that would have been. That would be attached to the memory for you.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah. Because I'm usually changing my shirt in there too.
Luke Burbank
Yes, obviously you bring about three to four shirts out when you go to watch the game, cuz you'll, you'll sweat through at least two of them.
Andrew Walsh
Absolutely. Just get those meat sweats. Corbin says Happy Blurs day to the one and only Robin in Denver. Hey, Robin. Hey.
Luke Burbank
It's our Robin. We love Robin.
Andrew Walsh
It has been over seven years since you invited me to the what the hell is TBTL challenge. We're just talking about it. That's the. That was what Jamie won.
Luke Burbank
And you don't believe in a dog.
Andrew Walsh
Wow. Thank you for showing me the light and the way of tbtl. Party hard. Let's celebrate soon. So Corbin is literally one of the people who came to life in the tbt through our outreach efforts of getting people to share the show. Corbin, welcome aboard. New list.
Luke Burbank
You know what I would say to Corbin? You get the show.
Andrew Walsh
That's right. And happy Blurs day to Robin. It was so good to see you in Denton.
Luke Burbank
Robin came in hot off of an international flight.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah.
Luke Burbank
Came right to the event and then shut it down.
Andrew Walsh
We were literally shut the whole thing down. Said, you got. Y'all gotta get out of here.
Luke Burbank
Yeah. She's like, I'm tired. Everybody go home.
Andrew Walsh
Go home. This is where we sleep.
Luke Burbank
We were at something, I think, called, like, the crow bar. It had crow in the name. It was like two in the morning. I was. I think I was getting a little, as you would say, a little tight or a little loose. But Robin was keeping up with the best of them, considering that she had just flown in from, like, Spain or something.
Andrew Walsh
You know how sometimes, though, after a really, really long trip, you're tired? But also, I remember I was sort of manic when we got back from Croatia. Like, I was tired, but also, like, super awake at the same time. I kind of can't explain it. And I remember just being feeling very manic and getting very little sleep. But the next day, like, riding my bicycle all over town to, like, get to a place where I could watch a Seahawks game. I remember just feeling like I have the strength bicycle. No rental. You know, one of those. Oh, yeah, yeah.
Luke Burbank
One. Like, city bikes.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah.
Luke Burbank
What do they call it?
Andrew Walsh
Yeah.
Luke Burbank
Is it. Is it an E bike?
Andrew Walsh
Yeah, it's an E bike. Those line bikes are E bikes. Yeah.
Luke Burbank
You know that my E bike is showing up tomorrow, Andrew.
Andrew Walsh
Oh, I'm excited for that.
Luke Burbank
I'm very. Things are gonna start happening to me now.
Andrew Walsh
Nice. Anyway, happy birthday to Robin in Denver. I don't know why I said it like that. Chris and Liz say happy Blurs day. Shout out. Huh? I think I read that wrong. Blurry shout out to our amazing daughter Eleanor, who's turning 16. It's hard to believe it's been 16 years. And even harder to believe that the night she was born, we were listening to TBTL on the radio in the hospital.
Luke Burbank
That's wild.
Andrew Walsh
From the very beginning, she's been bringing joy, laughter, and probably better takes than Luke and Andrew. Hey, Eleanor, Stay in your lane. Eleanor. I love. I hope your days.
Luke Burbank
Hold on. I'm calling the birthday police on you. Yeah. No backhanded comments. How dare you.
Andrew Walsh
I hope your day is filled with all of the things that make you happy, like sirens. Sorry.
Luke Burbank
This is a really Long drive, actually, it really is.
Andrew Walsh
And it's actually either appropriate or deeply inappropriate for the rest of the sentence. I hope your day is filled with all of the things that make you happy. Unless those things involve driving too fast, in which case, let's take it slow. Eleanor, Happy blurs day.
Luke Burbank
Oh, because Eleanor is turning. Or, excuse me, is 16.
Andrew Walsh
Yes, Eleanor's turning 16.
Luke Burbank
Amazing.
Andrew Walsh
I love the name Eleanor. Genevieve said a. An interesting thing to me recently because we have said, and we don't have any intention of having kids. I think that part of our life has passed, and we never intended on having kids. That was never part of the plan. But we did say if we ever had a kid, we would name her Ramona, just because we love the name Ramona. Genevieve reminds me of a Ramona Quimby kind of person in. It just sort of fits in that.
Luke Burbank
She is perpetually age 8.
Andrew Walsh
It gets weird, but Genevieve said something to me. Are we out of this music already? The other day. And I didn't realize that she's like, you know, I'm always thinking about. I'm thinking about what the middle name would be. And then she says to me, I know our real fake daughter's name is Ramona, but I need to figure out what the middle name is. I was like, oh, okay. That's right. Our fake daughter's real name is Ramona. Okay. Right. But anyway, Eleanor would potentially be a good middle name. I will run that by.
Luke Burbank
That's a great one. Yeah, test that out. Try that out.
Andrew Walsh
What are we going to do about this music? We got to get back to here. We can.
Luke Burbank
Well, I've got this sound effect. Oh, that goes on for a while.
Andrew Walsh
People are driving right now. They're so mad at you.
Luke Burbank
Hey, speaking of which, Andrew, I did take my mandatory training on when I'm allowed to use the emergency broadcast system and not.
Andrew Walsh
Is it never? Because I think you should not be allowed to use.
Luke Burbank
I don't even know where they keep it. I don't. I mean, it's so silly that I had to take that thing. It's just because I guess I'm on air or whatever. But one of the things they covered was sirens during stories and during, you know, fictionalized CBS programming. And, in fact, you can put a siren in.
Andrew Walsh
You can, but it's probably allowed to put a siren.
Luke Burbank
But if you have any questions about something that might be getting too close to the emergency broadcast alert, talk to hr Talk. No, there's a guy named Gary who's the liaison with the fcc.
Andrew Walsh
Oh, Nice.
Luke Burbank
You run it by Gary.
Andrew Walsh
Can I get Gary's number? No, I have some questions for Gary.
Luke Burbank
I bet you do.
Andrew Walsh
About old Sheldon.
Luke Burbank
I need a young Sheldon and an old Sheldon.
Andrew Walsh
Okay. Brian in Portland says blurs a shout out to Joey of the Pine Hearts.
Luke Burbank
I know which Brian this is of course. Joey this is of course.
Andrew Walsh
That's right. Joey, I believe plays slide guitar. Right. Also the musical. My or Brian plays the slide. Sorry.
Luke Burbank
Brian's a pedal steel guy. I think Brian plays everything. Pedal steel is a special, special gusto.
Andrew Walsh
Okay, here. Here we go. I'm going to fix this. I'm going to clean all this up.
Luke Burbank
Three, two, and one.
Andrew Walsh
Oh, sorry, I messed that up. Let me try this again. Brian in Portland says blursday shout out to Joey of the Pine Hearts. Also the musical mind to be behind the smash hits boondocked with TBTL and the right Way to Remember the Wrong Kind of night.
Luke Burbank
Didn't we? Wasn't Brian on a flight with us?
Andrew Walsh
I think maybe you maybe with me. Joey, I think Brian, Joey.
Luke Burbank
Brian I would have recognized immediately. I think Joey was on a flight. Cross country flight that I was on and I think maybe had already written the eternal classic the right way to remember the wrong. Right, right way to remember the wrong Kind of night or whatever.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah.
Luke Burbank
And. And I. I think he was going out to. It might have even been like some kind of a music festival. I think Joey was on a flight. I was on a flight with Joey and we were going to.
Andrew Walsh
Oh, that's. Now what if. What if a police officer were chasing that airplane? Oh, man.
Luke Burbank
Get over here. Pull that plane over. Joey.
Andrew Walsh
Looking to see if I have that song anywhere. But yeah, I feel like that was.
Luke Burbank
A bigger thing in the 80s. There was a lot of people chasing airplanes from either the stair car or a police cruiser. I feel like that was many films. Like the bad person was gonna get away or something. And then it got down to like a police officer driving on the tarmac.
Andrew Walsh
With their lights going, well, what was the movie? Movie that had an accompanying music video that had, I believe Snoop Dogg in it. And certainly Dre. It could have even been it. Was it Soul Plane. I feel like maybe it's like I might just be conflating things here, but there is a music video for a Dre song and it might be keep their heads Ringing or something like that. Where it begins with a plane filled with partying hip hop cop folks. And police are chasing them.
Luke Burbank
Oh, wow.
Andrew Walsh
On the tarmac before they. Because there's a really funny line where he says something like, I. I can't remember exactly what it is, but somebody.
Luke Burbank
Somebody better get these MF cops off this MF plane.
Andrew Walsh
I really messed up that story. But that doesn't ring a bell to you? What is the video for? Keep Their Heads Ringing. Do you?
Luke Burbank
I don't even. Never even heard that song.
Andrew Walsh
Oh, sure you have. I know you have. You listen to more pop music than me. Yeah, but anyway, we can move on here. Anyway, happy birthday, Joey. Sorry about everything. And finally you mentioned.
Luke Burbank
Looks like it might be off of the Friday soundtrack.
Andrew Walsh
That might be. That makes more sense. And is the video. Does it begin? Can we hear the beginning of that video? Are you curious?
Luke Burbank
First I have to watch an ad about eating more avocado so that I will have really tight abs starring Dr. Drew.
Andrew Walsh
You hold off on that, okay? I'll tell you what. Hold off on that for a second. I have one more blur say here. And it's important one.
Luke Burbank
Yep.
Andrew Walsh
You mentioned our dear friend Katie earlier. And indeed today is today. Today, actual day of is her blurs day. Which is why our dear friend Liz writes in to say, happy golden Blurs day to our dear friend Katie. Beloved by the Co Bros Eagles and many, many others, Katie is the kind of person anyone would be lucky to know. In the past year, Katie has saved me from my cold, dark house during a big winter storm. And she's been there for me through a tough breakup. Through our shared history. Nope, Sorry. Though our shared history takes us all the way back to third grade, it's the time we've been able to reconnect and share as adults that I treasure the most. Happy blurs day. Katie from Liz.
Luke Burbank
And you know what the ultimate gift is?
Andrew Walsh
Hearing the beginning of.
Luke Burbank
No Liz. Not mentioning the fact that Katie once did steal her keys.
Andrew Walsh
That's right.
Luke Burbank
And we had to go on an epic quest.
Andrew Walsh
A drunken epic quest.
Luke Burbank
What are the chances that there will be swears in this?
Andrew Walsh
An. Oh, there are going to be swears.
Luke Burbank
I don't think I know this song, dude.
Andrew Walsh
Really?
Luke Burbank
And Friday is kind of a blind spot for me. You're very right about the plot of the video.
Andrew Walsh
Wait, do you see an airplane at the beginning?
Luke Burbank
Well, basically what happens is there is they're in, like, the control tower sort of thing.
Andrew Walsh
Okay. Yeah.
Luke Burbank
So there's an airplane that's pulled up. Like, you just see the back. I wonder if the budget. I mean, it would be crazy if Dr. Dre didn't have an almost unlimited budget for a video, but you just see the outline of an airplane next to the control tower. And then it kind of cuts to the people in the command center analyzing something that they're very nervous about.
Andrew Walsh
And there's some line in this where somebody says, that's an ambulance chasing us. And he's says, that's not an ambulance. That's the police. I'm just going to play the.
Luke Burbank
There is a scene where it looks like Chris Tucker is, I think maybe in the cockpit of the airplane, like, he's supposedly flying the plane. But again, it's cut. It's cut. So weird. Like, they clearly didn't have the budget for a real plane, or, like, you know what I mean? Like, they didn't shoot it on a plane. It's kind of like it's a little. Again, which is crazy to me, because we're talking about Dre. Like, this guy should have. He should be able to put anything in his video he wants.
Andrew Walsh
Let me. This is terrible. This is a terrible idea. But we're near the end of the show. In fact, we're probably in overtime here. We're probably in extra innings. So let me just try playing the beginning sketch. And again, I have no idea what words we're gonna hear in this, but. Yeah, we see the control tower. We see.
Luke Burbank
Yeah.
Andrew Walsh
What up? This is Dr. Dre. Okay. The people in the control tower are very surprised, and they're looking around. Where is this Dr. Dre voice coming from? The party's going on.
Luke Burbank
Thank God it's Friday now. Oh, man.
Andrew Walsh
I think the line I'm thinking of that always made me laugh because I do think it's Chris Tucker who says it, and he delivers it in the. That.
Luke Burbank
Oh, okay.
Andrew Walsh
I do know this. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I knew you would.
Luke Burbank
Iconic, I don't think.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah, I knew you would. You would recognize that. It's so good. Anyway, there's a very funny line to live delivered by Chris Tucker in a very Chris Tuckery way. So anyway, it happened somewhere else in the video. Not at the beginning.
Luke Burbank
All right.
Andrew Walsh
The show. Did I end the show perfectly? What a great dismount. As always.
Luke Burbank
The dismount. Stop it. You stop.
Andrew Walsh
Better.
Luke Burbank
You'd be nice to my friend Andrew, please.
Andrew Walsh
Okay. I just feel like it's been a weird week for me, but. Oh, you know, do we want to go out with Joey's song? Would that be fun?
Luke Burbank
Absolutely. And I think we have the rights to it.
Andrew Walsh
Yeah, exactly.
Luke Burbank
Did Joey give us the rights here?
Andrew Walsh
Let's just listen to a little bit of it, then I'll let you close out.
Luke Burbank
Good thinking.
Andrew Walsh
Right way to remember the wrong kind of night the wrong way to fall in love until the morning light Standing in shadows after holding you tight the right way to remember the wrong kind tonight Let me just jump in here and say, I believe the origin of this is. You said that line on the show, and you said, that sounds like a good country western. Western song. And so then Joey recorded this. And then there's another version, which I guess I didn't grab the right one, that also has Brian playing pedal steel on it.
Luke Burbank
And Dr. Dre.
Andrew Walsh
And Dr. Dre is saying, ring a ding dong. That always made me think of Lily Tomlin because she would always go, ring a ding, ring a ding when she played her telephone operator.
Luke Burbank
Oh, yeah. On Laugh in or something on Laugh.
Andrew Walsh
And I'm the only person who associates that Dr. Dre Song with Lily Thomas character. I'm the guy. I'm confident, shocked that he's white.
Luke Burbank
I'm confident that that is the case. All right, well, listen, thank you, everybody, for spending this time with us. We are going to be back here tomorrow with more imaginary radio, and so we hope to see you there as well. In the meantime, have a great Thursday. Take care of yourselves. Keep their heads ringing, please. Remember, no mountain too tall Good luck to all.
Andrew Walsh
To find nothing on the other side Lost in your arms like the embrace of a storm and waking in the morning to find your sails have all.
Luke Burbank
Been torn.
Andrew Walsh
The right way to remember the wrong kind of night the wrong way to fall in love Till the morning light Standing in the shadow holding you tight the right way to remember the wrong kind tonight Power out.
