Welcome to the Saturday Slam and Jam here on the Athletic NBA Daily. On today's show we're talking to Trill Bro dude of the you know, Ball podcast about the 76ers.
Finn AI Advertiser
The.
Andrew Board
Oh my gosh, the 76ers. And then we'll do some trivia. With me, as always is my good friend Alex Spears. Alex, what's up?
Alex Spears
What's up Andrew?
Andrew Board
And joining us from the you know Ball podcast, Trill Bro dude, what's up?
Trill Bro Dude
Thanks for having me. You know they always will provide us with something. You never know what it's going to be but every few months to a year you guys call me up and I always am down to come on because this team is just never never ending with the slot.
Alex Spears
This has to be like the most positive reason for meeting, though. I feel like every other time you've come, it's been bad circumstances.
Andrew Board
That's true.
Trill Bro Dude
I was gonna say, I. I guess the last time I was on just with by myself, it was probably related to the disaster season that they had in 2024. So that was signing Paul George, Joel Embiid's health being up in the air, and I would definitely rather come on here for this than that.
Andrew Board
I bet you haven't even thought about Jared McCain in weeks.
Trill Bro Dude
I don't know. Even though I love LeBaron Filon and I love the pick, I think that there will be a part of me that will just always be crushed over trading Jared because, yeah, that time period was such. It was such a blur. You know what I mean? Like, we draft them and it's like, all right, I like Jared, but like he's another small guard and then he balls out for us, then he gets injured, then we trade him out of nowhere and then he balls out for you guys. Then we draft Phylon, who I also like. So it's once again, it is just always a roller coaster with this team. No matter who's in charge, it's always something.
Andrew Board
So the Sixers are one of the biggest stories of the summer so far because of the Jalen Brown trade. Now that we're past the initial shock of the trade, what are your thoughts on how this will play out on the court for the Sixers and where Jalen will provide the biggest boost this season?
Trill Bro Dude
Yeah, so the first reaction obviously is just shock because it was probably the most shocking trade since the Luca trade. Just because we had no reporting, these teams just played each other in the playoffs, we thought that Jaylen Brown the week prior was going to be traded for Giannis. To then flip around and then have him traded for Paul George in two first round picks is obviously a shock to the system. I was streaming when it happened and I was absolutely floored. You could go watch my reaction. I had no idea this is possible.
Andrew Board
I watched it and listened to it. I like watched at least like a clip and then re listened to it and it's. It's awesome. It is really fun, content.
Trill Bro Dude
I've never had a livestream moment quite like that one where it's just caught me off guard so much that I couldn't even process my own thoughts.
Ondeck Advertiser
And.
Trill Bro Dude
And so once I did, I thought about a few things. Like, it's very funny because coming into this off season, I. I think this was the first time in my life that I wanted the Sixers to be patient. Like I was like, you know, we kind of need to see what's going on with this team. We have two Albatross contracts on the books. We have basically, you know, Vijay has this great rookie season and indeed, you know, when he came back and looked like himself for a little bit, there was a lot of optimism, but he's just not been able to stay healthy for hasn't played six straight games since the 2024 playoffs. And even if you go back further than that, it's really the 2023 regular season because he doesn't play back to backs. Paul George was awesome when he could play, but he only played half the season once again. So obviously I wanted them to kind of take things slow, see how everything was going to go in 2027 and 2028 and then they hit me over the head with this. So I'm still kind of reeling even a week later on really what to make of all this. I love the fact that they are being aggressive and trying to make moves that make this team more available and more just younger and more athletic and a team that will run the floor and fit the identity of what they did to start last year before they ran Maxi and Vijay into the ground. By December they BJ was playing the most minutes for a rookie since LeBron James. Maxi was playing the most minutes by an NBA player since Monta Ellis. So I think the fact that you had those, those two things were really what determined and kind of defined this off season. They want players who are going to be available, they want players who are going to buy in and they also want some depth at those positions by you know, going out and getting Jalen who can also play the two a little bit, going out and signing Anthony Simons, drafting LeBaron Filon, trying to basically completely reinvigorate the team and reshape the team to be a team that runs and is more of a, like I said, a younger, more athletic team that has still has a lot of talent and is just different than Sixers teams of the past. And I'm excited to see how it looks on the court. I'm a little, the only thing that I have a little bit of reservation about is Jalen Brown's coming off this season where he was basically a 30 point per game scorer on you know, having he was six in MVP. He's you know, a second team all NBA guy had a case for first team and we can do the whole analytics versus itest versus whatever debate. But ultimately he was an incredibly productive player on a team that won over 50 games and is not someone who necessarily wants to take a back seat at this point of his career. Like, he thinks that he is the guy. I think that's part of the reason why he wanted out of Boston. And, and I think that now I think that this team can absolutely fit around the image of that, especially because Joel Embiid misses so much time. But I am a little bit interested to see how this all works on the court.
Alex Spears
So the, the trade I would say generally is being viewed as a low risk move for Philly considering that they got off the Paul George contract in the process. That said, and you kind of alluded to this, but one of the revelations that came out of the trade is that we learned that Jaylen Brown is the 275th best player in the NBA. So I was wondering how you viewed Jalen Brown's value as a basketball player previously when he was playing for one of your rivals. Has your thinking changed around Jalen Brown at all now that you are going to be rooting for him this upcoming season?
Trill Bro Dude
Well, I, I think that you always have an idea of a player when he plays against your team versus when you have to watch him on a night to night basis. We all have had this right where a player plays pretty well against your team. And Jalen honestly has always kind of killed us until really until the last few games of these playoffs. Like he's always been a bit of a Sixers killer. We've never had any answer for his size and athleticism. And I felt like he was getting a little bit slandered for, for. I didn't really get the slander is what I'm trying to say. And I understand he does have flaws as a player in terms of like the turnover stuff, the decision making, the, you know, the off ball defense, all of that. I get it. Like, I think that there is an argument to be made that maybe Jaylen Brown got a little bit overrated. I certainly don't think that is the case anymore because of the last few weeks. It feels like to quote our guy Bill Simmons, he might have got so overrated that he's actually underrated now. So I feel like the thing with Jalen is the fear, obviously as a Sixers fan is that like the Celtics are trading him to us. And like what's going on here? Like what's, what's the deal? I know they are like, exactly. I mean in the past, all of the guys that we've gotten from rival teams have kind of burned us. Right? Like, I think back famously to the 2019, 2020 season when we got Al Horford in free agency and then we also got Josh Richardson from the Miami Heat. How did that turn out? Like they were both off the team within a year. The vibes were miserable. The team didn't fit. So obviously there's always a fear and a panic that that could happen. And I think that there might be something to the fact that in the regular season, Jalen's value, it might not be quite as what people think that it is, just because over the course of 82 games, some of those flaws are going to be on display and. But ultimately, at the end of the day, he is a very good offensive player who can guard one on one, has positional versatility and value to the Sixers. Like he can play with Maxi and Vijay, which was always going to be the thing that was hard to find for the Sixers. Like, I thought that they should be patient because I just felt like we were so far away from having a team that made sense because it's just like you can't get good wings and forwards. Like, we have the guard thing set. But like every good player that gets traded that is a wing or a forward is like a crazy overpay price. It's just like always, like, I didn't think they had it in them to acquire a player like that, let alone. It's very rare that those guys become available. Like the guys that I was thinking of was like, two years from now, maybe before they traded for Kawhi Leonard, like Scotty Barnes or Franz Wagner from the Magic, or maybe even if, if everything goes wrong for Atlanta, Jalen Johnson from Atlanta. But, like, the realistic thing is that none of these guys hit the market unless it's a circumstance like this, right where he wants to get paid. They have all their money tied up in him and Jason Tatum, and honestly, they have success in the regular season no matter who they play. It just seems like they can roll out anyone and just coast to 50 wins. And they made the determination that if they could trade for Giannis, they would pay Giannis, but they don't want to pay Jalen another contract. And, and honestly, I hope the Sixers wait and see what this looks like for a year before we get to a point where we're just committing all of this money to him. Because I think that you really need to be careful with the way that you're building, especially with Joel Embiid on the Supermax and you're going to have to pay Maxi a year from now. Assuming that this trade was kind of a push in to make a team that's more available and make more sense around Tyrese Maxey and Vijay Edgecombe, that I feel like they should just wait until next offseason to really make any massive decisions. And the only fear that I have with all of this is that this determined that they are going to be like this. This kind of shows that they're going to be aggressive and I don't want them to get overly aggressive trying to make moves on a team that I think is certainly a good team. I don't know if they're a great team. Unless LeBron James, you want to come on over here and play for us? I would, I would. I would allow that and certainly get my hopes up if that happens.
Alex Spears
Well, before we get to that, I. One more question before we move on, because you've had a lot to say about this person. Considering that Paul George is now the centerpiece in a trade for a 29 year old finals MVP, are you ready to admit that Daryl Morey's cap Space plan of 2024 was a rousing success?
Trill Bro Dude
Okay, so here's my thing with everything with Daryl Morey. What we're doing now is basically the exact opposite in terms of like spending on the margins, using all of our exceptions, and also just being aggressive and trying to go out and make win now trades to get guys that kind of fit with this team. Right. The thing that drove me the most insane about Daryl Morey is that if you just look at like the transactions, he might have won one on one transactions, right? Where it's like, oh, well, he won the James Harden trade and he won the Paul George in cap space and he won. But the opportunity cost of all of this is what drove me so insane. And it's very funny that Maury kind of came after hinky and they were friends and they worked together because that hinky talked about this stuff all the time. The opportunity cost of what happened during the years with Ben Simmons, James Harden, Paul George, all those guys in the middle of Joel Embiid's prime was really the reason that this team's championship window was shot. Like the fact that they basically wasted time always were trying to remake the team around Joel. You know, he. Obviously him not being able to stay healthy is the biggest factor in all of this, but you really didn't give yourself a chance just by constantly shuffling. And the cap space plan is just Another example of that, like, they punted on a year after Joel embiId won the MVP. We knew his. His body was a ticking time bomb. And you decided, you know what? No, it's actually better for us to wait until next offseason to give this team some sort of competitive advantage. That. That raises their ceiling. And ultimately, what that did was it overtax and bead ran him into the ground, and our championship window was basically shut because you got really cute. And that is the thing that really frustrates me about the Maury era that I feel like no one talks about. And I went. We went through this whole slop trial where we talked about this. It's like. It's not to say that Daryl More, he didn't make good moves. It's to say, when you look at the whole picture, you should do what you did in Houston and try to maximize as much of that guy's window. Even if you're going up against the warriors, who were this unbeatable force, you should try to do whatever you can to maximize those years, because you never know how long Joel's going to stay healthy. So this. Obviously, they. They pivoted out of this pretty nicely. Even though, like I said, ownership has got to show that they're willing to spend if they want to keep this thing going. And in the past, they've only spent for one or two seasons, and then they pull back. But obviously, yes, I feel pretty good about the fact that the outcome, even though it did cost me my beloved Clippers pick, which I was really hoping that we could hold on to. But you guys have seen some. Some good, some bad with that?
Andrew Board
Yeah, yeah. Maury's kind of like. He's kind of, like, having these, like, really nice GM hockey assists, you know, where he, like, does the first thing, but he's not going to get, like, full credit for what's happening here. Do it. Do we have any interest in reading this report? We're actually recording this on Thursday. Mostly my fault that we're recording this early, but this. The Raptors trade Center on Kauai will not be complete until the NBA investigation into the Clippers is over. Did you see this?
OnDeck Advertiser
Wow.
Andrew Board
So they're waiting for the. The. The investigation to be finished before they complete the Kawhi Leonard deal. And then, like, Shams was funneled this, like, big statement from the Clippers about how they didn't do. They didn't do the. The whole aspiration thing.
Trill Bro Dude
Yeah, no, we're good. That was. That was not our. Our fault.
Alex Spears
Yeah.
Trill Bro Dude
So that's crazy, though.
Andrew Board
Anyways.
Trill Bro Dude
I can't remember a scenario ever like this in history where a trade is being held up because of an investigation.
Alex Spears
I'm. Because this. This makes me feel like, well, we're gonna get something now because they're gonna get.
Andrew Board
Yes, there's a.
Alex Spears
A timeline. I mean, there's not really a timeline, but you obviously want to resolve this before the start of the season. For both of these teams.
Andrew Board
Maybe the punishment is they just hold it. Hold off for forever. They just. Actually, that's just punishing Raptors fans more than it is anything. Yeah. This is very strange. This is. Yeah. Something is going to happen, and it should happen relatively soon now that this is out there, because I. I have to believe the investigation's done, like, less than a year. Come on. The investigation also. We don't. We don't.
Alex Spears
They wait until now, because when was that trade agreed to? Was that a full week ago?
Trill Bro Dude
Yeah. And it wasn't. It wasn't dependent on free agency.
Alex Spears
Yeah.
Trill Bro Dude
Like, it wasn't one of those moves where it couldn't have been done a week ago. Like, most of these moves that are dependent on free agency, they wait a little bit. But this was. These were guys that were under contract.
Alex Spears
That's so strange. I wonder what happened in the last week to make them suddenly decide, like, what did they not know a week ago?
Trill Bro Dude
Maybe they knew and they were just deciding that maybe both teams knew that this was a chance and that they would complete it. And they, like, let's be honest, it's probably going to be a slap on the wrist. It will probably be some sort of fine, and then we'll go from there. But, yeah, I would. I would imagine the league would tell them not to trade Kawhi if they felt like it was going to be.
Alex Spears
Right. Yeah.
Trill Bro Dude
Much more serious.
Finn AI Advertiser
Yeah.
Andrew Board
Yeah. If the trade call came in and like, you know what? Let's just. Can we just keep this quiet for a little bit?
Trill Bro Dude
Are we going to have a Dante DiVincenzo, Bogdan Bogdanovich? I don't know if you guys remember, that was one of the last famously called off trades.
Andrew Board
Yeah.
Trill Bro Dude
And Mark Williams, Dalton connect probably being the more recent one because of physical.
Andrew Board
Yeah. Oh, man. That would be. That would be so sad for after. So Kawhi was just at Kyle Lowry's, like, big thing in Toronto. Oh, no. All right, back to your regularly scheduled programming here. Oh, my gosh. Okay, so Jalen Brown was not the only move for the Sixers this summer. The Sixers have also added Dean Wade, Anthony Simons, and NBA champion Ariel Hakporti. Outside of the Jalen move, what are your thoughts on Mike Gansey's first summer in charge of the Sixers?
Trill Bro Dude
Well, Wade seemed like the most obvious move. He was discovered by Mike Gansey with the Cavs. We had a need at the four spot even before we traded for Jalen Brown. And then all of the other moves, I was a little bit. And I like that move, to be clear. Like, we need some, especially this team. Like this. This team needs a really good rebounder. This team needs a really good defender and a guy who just knows kind of how to do his job and just not really get in the way because I. There are players that I have loved on the Sixers the last few years. Kelly Oubre has given me a lot of amazing moments. Andre Drummond, all of those guys love him even less. I wouldn't say I love Quentin Grimes, but Quentin Grimes had that Mickey Mouse march was special. None of those guys knew their role. They all thought they were the best player on the team. And I think getting a guy like Dean Wade and then probably to an a lesser extent, a guy like Huck Porty, it's just nice to have guys who feel like they will buy into a role and kind of stay out of the way in a way that those guys, they've. They've had a lot more success in the NBA than someone like Dean Wade. And, and they're generally speaking, like more quote, unquote, talented because of their scoring ability. So I, I think it's nice just to get a normal role player in Dean Wade. The Huck Purdy thing, I didn't like it at first. I was like, this guy has played nine minutes a game in his career. He's a foul machine. He's a turnover machine because just like Adam Bona on the Sixers, he doesn't know how to set screens, which always is offensive fouls and da, da. But then I saw the rest of the center market and how it broke, and I was like, what were the other options? Like, I was interested in Jock landale. He got $14 million. Zach Collins got $7 million. I was like, who would we have spent this money on that could have been better than the kind of potential of what hook Purdy could be if he can clean up some of his issues? And also I, I obviously only watched him a little bit in the playoffs because he didn't play a ton, but he at least proved that he could stay on the floor in the playoffs. Is something that is important for a team that has the aspirations that the Sixers have. And then on top of that I just think that the fact that he basically is someone that's a little bit more athletic than Andre Drummond, he's willing to run the floor and they envision him as like a dribble handoff hub for when Embiid is is not playing. There could be some upside there for sure. I'm a little bit skeptical, but there could be some upside. The Simon I would like the Simon signing a lot more if they didn't also draft LeBaron Filon. Like I feel like it's a good value signing to be clear. Like Simon should make more money than what he made. It's just that the new the way that the market broke, they do not value scoring guards. And I do think that he's one of the best shooters in the NBA. He will provide a scoring punch off the bench that the Sixers have sorely lacked the last few years. And I think that he absolutely will help the team in the regular season. But also like I love Phylon, that was my guy and now I feel like he's going to get buried already potentially. But maybe the idea is essentially we can bring him along slowly, let see what he is and then if he's awesome we can trade Simons at the deadline with second round picks to go, maybe get more big and forward depth. So overall I'm totally fine with all the moves just because of how the market broke. I just hope that they're showing that they are willing to spend these exceptions and actually spend money and not do what the Nets did when they traded for the Kevin Gardette Paul Pierce thing which is ultimately what led to what happened with the Celtics and drafting Jalen Brown funny enough. And then more recently I would say the other example of this is like when the Suns traded for Bradley Beal and then they immediately like obviously they've made out fine on the other end because they traded Kevin Durant and they turned that into whatever. But I just, my big fear is that they're, they're doing all their spending right now and then they're going to pull the money back like they have in the past. They haven't been shown that they're willing to go into the tax for multiple years because this team just never gets out of the second round of the playoffs.
Alex Spears
We're going to talk about LeBron next, but other than him, do you have any favorite veteran minimum players you'd like Philly to add if it just. If LeBron doesn't pick Philly, I mean,
Trill Bro Dude
I can't imagine why you wouldn't want to go to Philly. Come on. He has so many connections here. You know, with Rich Paul and Tyrese Maxey pushing for it on, you know, we're getting an advertisement on there, but there are a few guys that I feel like, first off, I'm sure you guys have noticed this as well. I just discussed this. There's really no bigs that you can kind of go get that feel like on the vet minimum. Like, Andre Drummond might be the best vetman big, and I love Andre, but he is just at a very different stage of his career. He is just a wildly inconsistent player and someone you shouldn't rely on night to night. So I. I cannot believe I'm going to say this, because people have been giving me pushback because I. I lose my mind a little bit during the off season. But a player I really did not enjoy when he was on the Sixers after his first year or two was Matisse Thibault. And I am not a huge fan just because Matisse has not really shown the ability to stay healthy and play a lot of minutes and whatever. But I'm looking at this Sixers team, and I'm going, if they want to run, there's no one better to go get than thible to play 15 minutes off the bench whenever he can and cause three or four turnovers a game like he always does, and then get the team out running with this core. Because if their goal is to run in the open court and have the best transition offense in the NBA, other than LeBron James, who better than to go get Matisse Thible who's going to be someone? Because one of the things that Paul, Georgia, Kelly, you did, even with their flaws, is they turn teams over. And that's something that I think that we will miss from them, even though we have Jalen Brown, indeed, Wade and bjh. Com and all those guys, like, I think that they kind of are missing someone that will just turn teams over and get out running. But that would be. Matisse would probably be my number one. I never thought I would say that, but. And then the other guys are just like, guys that are just like, in a pinch, you might be able to like Gary Payton the second or Jayson Tate or Micah Potter who just got waved. He killed us this year. I mean, he might not be good, but he killed us this year. So he's a goat. He's a goat. I don't I don't know. I watched him play two basketball games, and I was like, why would they waive the greatest player of all time, Micah Potter? But, like, once again, I'm telling you, look at the vet Min market left. It's. It's pretty grim. Unless you're getting one of these guys to take a vetman that is, like, clearly way above that and just has to settle for it.
Alex Spears
Yeah. Someone who's listened to your pot a lot. You saying Matisse Thible. I mean, I said, wow. Because he has not been your favorite. I would say.
Trill Bro Dude
No, no. I mean, to be fair, also, when we had Thibel on the team, our expectations were championship, like, all the way up here. And then the way that it ended with the vaccine thing in Canada, then he couldn't play in Toronto, and it was. It was. It was a combination of. He was frustrating as a player because he never really got better. But on top of that, like, it was the vibes of all of it. And I just feel like now I've. I've. I know a lot of Sixers fans feel differently, and I might be in the minority here. I've removed championship from my brain. Like, I don't view the Sixers as a championship contender, literally, unless they get LeBron James. So what was five?
Andrew Board
What about. Yeah, what about Yabu would Yaboo Change.
OnDeck Advertiser
Change.
Trill Bro Dude
He went back.
Andrew Board
Oh, he's gone. Oh, man. Well, there goes telling you that's why you're not thinking championship anymore.
Trill Bro Dude
Yeah, exactly. No, I'm telling you, it's. The guys left. Like, everyone that was decent got paid. Like, say what you will about the new cba, if you have at least theoretical upside, or you are a playable player in the regular seasons or playoffs, you will get like, Colin Sexton just got $7.5 million or whatever from the Lakers. Like, those are. Those are the kind of guys that I assumed would be vet minimum players. And they. They really don't exist all that much anymore unless they're really old. Like, you know, the guys in their mid to late 30s.
Alex Spears
Was. Was Thibault the first Sixers vlogger?
Trill Bro Dude
He must have been. Yeah, I don't think we had. I mean, J.J. redick had a podcast, but that was obviously a little bit different. We would. We've had a long lineage of content creators on the six. Jared Thible, pg.
Alex Spears
Of course.
Trill Bro Dude
Yeah. How could I forget? And now we have a new one. We have a streamer. It's our. To be. To my knowledge, it's our first famous streamer at Least I don't think that we had any. Like, I know Justin Edwards streams on TikTok and Twitch, I don't think. And Drummond does, too. I don't think people are tuning in quite as much as they are with Jaylen Brown on Twitch.
Alex Spears
Yeah. Didn't I read that Andre Drummond was just streaming playoff games on Twitch?
Trill Bro Dude
I talked about this on the podcast. Yeah, I talked about, like, he literally. I would go on TikTok and it would just be Andre Drummond watching. Like, this was last year's playoffs, I think. Like, watching the NBA Finals, and I'm like, this is illegal. How is this happening? But, you know, he got away with it, I think. I mean, he doesn't do it anymore, but okay.
Alex Spears
LeBron, Sixers, it's been reported, are among the final teams LeBron is considering. Trill, I need you to try to be objective. How do you think the pitch for Philly stacks up against the other potential LeBron destinations?
Trill Bro Dude
So if we're talking basketball fitness, I think that there's a pretty Easy pitch for LeBron. The Sixers are young and athletic. You're not going to have to try that hard in the regular season. Really, all they're missing is, like, a connective playmaker that just kind of makes everything make sense. And if you come to Philadelphia and we win a title, you will be a God. Like, you will be seen as. Even if you played here for one year, you won a title and you left, everyone would love you. Similar to how Kawhi is viewed with the raptors. Even at 41 years old, you've already won with the Cavs, so there's really no upside to that. You've already won with the Heat. There's really no upside to that. That would be my pitch. If I'm going up against the other two teams. And I understand that the other two teams have things that we can't offer. Like the Heat have golf year round. Like, he could go there and golf, and he has connections with SPO and. And he has a history of that team. And obviously, same same with the Cavs. Like, his best friend works for the team and he is from there, and he's living there right now. Like, I understand that they're up against a lot, but I'm actually, like, I would say relatively in the minority on the Cabs thing, where I feel like the basketball fit is actually, like, not as good as people are making it out to be. I just don't know how you can watch the last three playoffs and say, yeah, let's put Five guys who are like all star level players on the same team. And really the only guys that are, like, defensively tilted players are the bigs, which obviously helps, but no point of attack defense, no real, like, dirty work hustle guys. And then offensively, I just feel like the fit is a bit clunky with the double bigs. And then LeBron playing at the three with James, Harden, and Mitchell, all as a collective. Like, I do think that that fit is a little bit clunkier than people are leading it on to be. To be honest with you. They have no. They still have no wings. And obviously adding LeBron would help, but he's not going to do the stuff that you want your dirty work wings to do.
Alex Spears
And LeBron, don't sleep on the Marion Golf Club. It's very nice. My dad used to caddy there.
Trill Bro Dude
We have a lot of really good golf courses here. I will say you only will be able to golf the first month and a half of the season and then the end of the season. So that might be a little bit. We do have. My dad's a big golfer and he golfs all around here. And yeah, we have a lot of great golf.
Alex Spears
So one of the factors at play is that LeBron is planning to film this upcoming season, make it into a documentary. If we're just thinking about a potential documentary, what can Philly offer as a team, a fan base, a city to really take this documentary to the next level? I mean, obviously we can get a gritty cameo, I think that's.
Trill Bro Dude
Sure, yeah, absolutely. I mean, once again, it would be. Because the thing that they talked about on Rich Paul's podcast, when they had Bob Myers on, and they were talking about the reason that LeBron was talking about, like, leaving the Lakers and going to a new team, the team was going to be the Knicks, right? And then they won the championship, which is, like, so crazy. He probably could have never imagined three years ago, oh, well, they're going to be winning the championship. So, like, I can't go have my storybook ending there and, you know, get this team that's been kind of stuck for so long over the top. What team in a major market better than Philadelphia in terms of, like, the story itself? It obviously. Philadelphia. I just talked about the fact that, like, you've already done it in the other places. And his whole thing. Nick wright, the famous LeBron historian, has said he goes to a place for one year, they figure out what works and what doesn't, and then they win the championship the second year. So I don't think that it's going to be something that in terms of, like, the, like, one year, like, victory lap, I think it's going to be two years wherever he goes. So I'm hoping that he considers if everything doesn't work with this team, they can rework it, and then the second year, you'd still have a chance. Even though LeBron will be, what, 43 years old.
Alex Spears
You know, the. The documentary angle that might be where the loss of Jared McCain hurts the most, because he would be a great, true supporting character in that documentary.
Trill Bro Dude
But he did. He did famously have a thumbnail on YouTube where he called LeBron Bronnie senior, and I do wonder if he. And made the call and said, if I'm coming there, by the way, I
Alex Spears
was going to say, get me a
Trill Bro Dude
D. Get me a D, Wade, just like I had in Miami.
Andrew Board
Also, I think it may help that Filon made a mean joke about shengun.
Trill Bro Dude
Definitely.
Andrew Board
Yeah.
Trill Bro Dude
LeBaron and LeBron, like, come on, we're getting so. We have. We signed Caleb Love. Just like Kevin Love, like, all of the things are. I mean, I'm all of it together. Yeah. I was going to say I've been going so insane that I'm listening to LeBron. I'm on LeBron's Instagram stories, and LeBron's playing a song from All Eyes on Me, which is featuring Corrupt, who is famous for being from la. But not a lot of people know that Corrupt was actually born in Philadelphia. And I'm like, stay woke. Savannah James, business partner. It went to Temple. I'm like, all of the signs are there, guys. Like, I'm telling you, LeBron, J.J. redick was his coach in LA and he said, you know, I lived in Brooklyn when I played for the Sixers and I commuted down to Philadelphia. He has someone in his ear. If LeBron, you've wanted to live in New York, you're not going to go play for the Nets. Like, who else is there if you can't get the Knicks over the top? I'm just saying I'm losing my mind a little bit.
Alex Spears
If he puts a Freeway song on one of his Instagram stories, we'll know that'll seal the deal.
Trill Bro Dude
Just saying. I'm just Will Smith, Meek Mill, Freeway, State Property, any of that stuff. Just keep an eye open.
Andrew Board
What. What did it feel like seeing the Sixers on the whiteboard?
Trill Bro Dude
By the way, we've been through this before. 2018. I don't know if anyone remembered this, but Rich Paul was pushing for LeBron to go to the Sixers in 2018 because of Ben Simmons. And funny enough, we draft. There's actually a famous photo I have from the 2020 pre draft workout. It was Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Maxey. They held a clutch pre draft workout during COVID and it was LeBron and Ben Simmons standing behind Tyrese Maxey shooting threes in the workout. And I was just being. And I remember making jokes about it being like prophetic that Maxi was going to come to the Sixers and then we were going to get LeBron and 2020, I was doing this. And so we have been through it. Because in 2018, Rich Paul wanted him to come to the Sixers. They obviously chose the Lakers because LeBron wants to live in LA and it's good for the brand. And the Lakers also obviously won a championship and made it back to another conference final. So. But the, like, we've been down this. We had the temporary loss of mine two years ago when there was a photo that was circulating where Elton. They say it was Elton Brand, but everyone said they saw LeBron James in Philadelphia meeting with the Sixers. And it was around the time of the 2024 draft. So we were like, maybe they did a pre draft workout with Bronnie. So we've had these things happen before. And all I know is that I'm not going to. I'm not like fully getting my hopes up just because it's way more logical for him to go to the cabs of the Heat in general. Like, it just makes more sense for him to go to a place where he's already been, place where he's from teams that are good. Like, if LeBron goes to any of these teams, they'll have a chance to win the championship. Like, I. Even if I said, like, I don't love the basketball fit of the Cavs roster right now, they could make moves and then make the team make more sense and then win the championship. Absolutely. But I do think that you have to consider the Rich Paul angle here. Like, look at clutches clients and tell me how many of those guys, like, even he even hyped up Darius Garland during the.
Andrew Board
I know.
Trill Bro Dude
And that's his guy. Like, that's his client. He's like, LeBron loves Garland. Like he loves Maxi. We don't even need to think talk about that. Like, he was basically like, so them losing Garland actually hurts a little bit. But Rich Paul's also on record saying you need to trade Garland. So, like, which, which way is it? Is what I'm trying to say, like, is this just a commercial for Clutch? Like, is Bob Myers going on the podcast to help out his friend and do an agent favor? Because it's, you know, obviously good to have, have Rich Paul on your side. And Maxi and Garland are really his two best young clients. And it's obviously in his benefit to push them out there on the biggest platform that he can get, which is when they're getting all these views and clicks right now.
Andrew Board
It's so weird. This is like the, one of the weirdest things, watching these, watching.
Alex Spears
I love it.
Trill Bro Dude
It's great. It's so great to have this angle of slop. Like an agent with a podcast on Bill Simmons network bringing on active executives to make a pitch for LeBron and free like it's a movie, dude.
Alex Spears
This is.
Andrew Board
It is, it is unbelievable. Okay, so as we wait for the LeBron thing to happen, the next big thing for the Sixers is summer league. And so the debut of their first round pick, LeBaron Phylon in Vegas. Who was one of your favorite players in the draft? What, what made you rank Phylon so high as a prospect?
Trill Bro Dude
He is like, it's obvious why you would be concerned about someone like Phylon. I was at the beginning of the process, like he came back, he was in the draft last year and apparently the Sixers did make him a promise to take him in the second round last year, but it wasn't enough for him to not go back to Alabama and he was more of a role player guy who fits in his first year. Occasionally we get buckets, but played off the ball next to Mark Sears in Alabama and then came back this year and just got better at literally everything. Like he was a high usage guard who did not turn the ball over, who got better as a playmaker, who got better as a shooter, who got better as a finisher. Like he learns the game super quick, you can tell. And that's kind of the reason why they love vj, to be honest with you. Like, they just love like hard working dudes who really buy in and learn the game super fast. And the thing about Phylon, like you can have concerns about the small guard stuff, the fact that he came back to the combine and he didn't put on much weight. I get all of it. Watch this guy for three, four games and you start to just kind of not worry about that stuff. Like you're. He is like one of the most captivating prospects I can remember in recent memory. I think, think, I think even in this draft that has these multi level scorers, these like this was an amazing guard class. Darren Peterson I could consider because he's wing size. Like I consider him kind of his own thing. But of the guards, the Darius A. Cuffs, the Keaton Waglers, the Kingston Flemings, the Phylons, all those guys, there is an argument to be made that Phylon has the best three level scoring package. And Chuck from chucking darts made this pitch on my podcast as well. Like he is a great shooter off the dribble. He does. The thing about Alabama is they don't shoot a lot of super long twos but they will shoot threes, they will get rim attempts. And he was a paint touch demon this past year. Like his floater was incredible. He has this. He really does like play like a mini Shay. Like his stop start athleticism is the best that I can remember in quite some time in terms of just someone that can has that crazy detail, the ability to just change directions on the fly. And I think every year in the draft that is one of the most underrated things for a guard prospect. Like we always look at guys that like, like guys that I liked in this draft. Even like a Corey and Flemings and all those guys like they could get into the pain at will but they at least right now someone like a Corey is kind of like maxi where he just like blows you away with top end speed and, and playing at like this breakneck pace and. And it's going to take him a little bit to play at a different pace, I think. I think it will take him time to learn in the NBA. I think Phylon is someone who already plays like a veteran guard and that was something that really stood out to me in his second year at Alabama. Like one of my favorite games of the year was The Darius Acuff vs. LeBaron file on Arkansas. Alabama double overtime game and a cuff went crazy that gave me like 49 points and was insane. But Phylon scored 35 on crazy efficiency. Was the only player in the tournament to really go up against Michigan and not really look scared at all. He dropped 30 in that game. They had no answer for him. And three of those guys just got drafted in the lottery for their defense. So I just feel like he, I felt like he had the most underrated ceiling of all the guards and the fact that he fell to 22. I just even though like could we have used Zubi Edge of four or Terrace Reed or one of these guys more for next year? Yes. But I do like that they just took the the quote unquote best player available in their mind.
Andrew Board
Summer is one of my favorite times of the year, but it can also just be full of chaos. I got the NBA draft that we're covering, got all these trades happening and between all of that and kids and everything else happening, I'm trying to enjoy some longer days here and I can feel like there's no time to like really unwind. Trill Bro Dude
And they're. They're taking a swing on the upside.
Alex Spears
All right, Trill, well, thank you for answering all of our questions about the always interesting Philadelphia 76ers. It's now time to play Andrew versus the Beat. And in honor of Daryl Morey no longer being the gm, all of these questions will be about the Mori era in Sixers history. So all from the 2020 draft up until very recently. So, Trill, you know how this works. Eight questions. If you get one right, you'll get at least two points. We get it wrong, Andrew have a chance to steal for one. Will go back and forth until all the questions been asked and answered. So where would you like to start?
Trill Bro Dude
Me?
Oregon Lottery Announcer
Yes.
Trill Bro Dude
Three.
Alex Spears
Three.
Trill Bro Dude
We always go three for Iverson.
Alex Spears
Five players scored 40 plus points in a game during the Mori era. Embiid, Maxi Harden, and these two players. And you do get one point per correct answer.
Trill Bro Dude
Okay, so I can go first?
Alex Spears
Yeah, you can get both of them. You can get both points.
Trill Bro Dude
Okay. Quentin. Quentin Grimes is the. I. I will never forget that. That game that he had 40 points. So you said it was Joel Embiid. Tyrese Matthew. James Harden, did you say? Or Paul George. Okay, yeah.
Alex Spears
Quentin Grimes. And then one more player.
Trill Bro Dude
Wow. 40 points is a lot of points. VJ. VJ only had in the high 30s. He never hit 40. I don't know if Paul Tobias never did. Tobias's career high is 39. I know that because we tried to get him 40 in a game, and he missed, like, the last five shots of the game. It was so.
Andrew Board
Yeah, I do. I. I kind of remember that.
Trill Bro Dude
Yeah, yeah, it was. It was really.
Alex Spears
But also, I'm glad that you said that. And Immediately realized I need to explain why I know this. I need to.
Trill Bro Dude
Yeah, no, it's. I. I was gonna say that there's a reason why we all. All Sixers fans know that. So I'm gonna say I don't think Paul George did it. I'm gonna just say Kelly Oubre, even though I don't think that's a great guess.
Alex Spears
I love that guess. I wish it was true. It's not. Andrew.
Andrew Board
I remember there was, like, a question. Uber was on my brain as well. I was. That was going to be my guess. He's always on my brain.
Alex Spears
I swear. I've talked about Kelly Oubrey every single episode for, like, four episodes now. He has come up.
Andrew Board
That. That. That. That has to be true.
Alex Spears
Can't stop talking about him now. He's a Pacer.
Andrew Board
That absolutely has to be true.
Trill Bro Dude
Pacers. Demon bench units.
Andrew Board
Yeah. Golly. I don't know. I don't know who this is. I don't know. Seth Curry.
Alex Spears
No. It is young socialite Ben Simmons.
Andrew Board
No way.
Trill Bro Dude
He did it against Utah. I think if I remember correctly, because
Alex Spears
I was just on there. It was against Utah. Wow.
Andrew Board
Yep. Wow.
Trill Bro Dude
We lost that game. But Joel was. It was against the really good Utah Jazz. And we played. It was the only game during this era that we started Ben Simmons at center that I can remember. Joel was out, and we. We started him at center, and we just went five out, and Tobias and Ben went off, but we lost.
Alex Spears
Trill, you have, like, a LeBron level memory about the Sixers. Such as.
Andrew Board
That just makes no sense.
Trill Bro Dude
This is my expertise, though. This era of. I should have known that one.
Alex Spears
All right, Andrew Board is yours number one. Okay. It's my favorite question. I think Trill's really going to appreciate this one. During his Sixers tenure, Daryl Morey signed or traded for 11 different players who played for Houston while Maury was the GM of the Rockets. And we're going to name them all. So, Andrew, you're going to give me a name? Then Troll will give me name. We'll go back and forth. Eleven players who, before coming to the Sixers, played for Maury in Houston.
Andrew Board
Well, for coming to the Sixers.
Alex Spears
Oh, my gosh, Maury, I think he was hired in 07. So, like, 07, 2020 rockets who played during that time period who then played for the Sixers,
Andrew Board
They have to go directly from the Rockets to the Sixers.
Alex Spears
Not necessarily. No.
Andrew Board
Okay. James Harden.
Alex Spears
Yeah.
Andrew Board
Yeah. Okay.
Trill Bro Dude
We'll get some obvious ones out of the way. Eric Gordon.
Alex Spears
Gordon.
Trill Bro Dude
Eric Gordon.
Finn AI Advertiser
Of course.
Alex Spears
Andrew.
Andrew Board
Eric Gordon. Oh, my gosh. Harold.
Trill Bro Dude
Wow.
Alex Spears
Good pull.
Trill Bro Dude
Good pull.
Alex Spears
It's a hard one.
Trill Bro Dude
Oh, yeah, I was gonna say. I'll say P.J. tucker.
Alex Spears
Tucker. Yes. Andrew Tucker.
Andrew Board
Oh, my gosh. Okay, I've gotta get my mind right here because there's a lot more on the board.
OnDeck Advertiser
Yeah.
Andrew Board
Then I. I had to.
Alex Spears
This was a very hard question to figure out the answers to because I had to go through basketball reference every transaction he made and then try to remember if some of these guys played for Houston during that time.
Trill Bro Dude
Yep.
Andrew Board
Yeah.
Alex Spears
And some of these.
Andrew Board
Oh, I think Pat. I think Pat Bev. Pat Bev played for the Sixers. Yeah.
Alex Spears
Good.
Trill Bro Dude
Yeah. I've been trying to save this one, but I don't know. I think it. I think I'm good. Kyle Lowry.
Alex Spears
Kyle Lowry. That is correct.
Andrew Board
Yeah. I. I don't know if this one is right. Oh, Covington.
Alex Spears
Yeah.
Andrew Board
Does that count?
Alex Spears
Robert Covington.
Trill Bro Dude
Damn. I. Actually, my back's against the wall here now because I. I was like. I was saving. I had a few in my back pocket. I didn't think that Andrew was going to get Four names remaining. Four names remaining. So does drafted count, or do they have to play a game for them? Because I know he drafted a player we got, but he. They never played a game for the Rockets. I know for sure. Like, they had him in summer league and then they traded them.
Alex Spears
Oh, I think I know what play you're talking about, but he never actually played for the Rockets.
Trill Bro Dude
No, he never played a game.
Alex Spears
Yes. No, he is not on the list.
Trill Bro Dude
Okay.
Andrew Board
All right.
Alex Spears
We were talking about KJ Morning. I'm assuming
Trill Bro Dude
I'm not, but let's say kj.
Alex Spears
No, that was the guy I was saying, because he was. He didn't play. He played the year after.
Trill Bro Dude
I forgot about K.J. martin. No, actually, there were multiple players he drafted that played for us. It was not K.J. martin. But I will say, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say, did Anthony Toliver ever play for the Rockets?
Alex Spears
Anthony Tolliver? Never played. Was one of the names. I checked because I wasn't sure. Seems like I could. I could imagine him in a Rockets jersey.
Trill Bro Dude
There's going to be someone I missed here that I'm going to be really mad because I wasn't going to cheat and take Andrew.
Alex Spears
Are you done?
Andrew Board
Well, there was one that I. I just can't remember if he actually played for the Sixers. I feel like he did, but. Marcus Morris.
Alex Spears
Morris.
Trill Bro Dude
Oh, my God. How did I lose this Other three names.
Alex Spears
Dwight Howard, Daniel House.
Trill Bro Dude
Yep.
Andrew Board
Oh, Daniel House.
Alex Spears
And then.
Andrew Board
Oh my gosh, he's. Daniel House is somebody that I've thought way too much about in my life that like mattered.
Alex Spears
And the, the guy I don't think you would have ever gotten, Gary Clark, who played.
Trill Bro Dude
Yeah, I would have never got. Because we only had him on a two way. Yeah, Gary Clark.
Alex Spears
Who was the name you were thinking
Trill Bro Dude
of though there's actually two. He technically drafted Nicholas Batum. So he drafted Nick Batum and then traded him on draft night to the Blazers. So that doesn't count. And then the player that I was talking about was the Anthony Melton. The Anthony Melton was drafted by the rockets in the second round of the 2018 draft and they, they, they salary dumped him to the Phoenix Suns after summer league with Ryan Anderson's contract that they had signed.
Alex Spears
Okay.
Trill Bro Dude
Yeah. And then Melton went to the Grizzlies and ended up.
Alex Spears
Honestly, you just knowing that is deserving of a point. I can't give it to you.
Trill Bro Dude
But fair, fair, fair.
Alex Spears
Okay. Trill board is yours.
Trill Bro Dude
I will take. Give me number seven, Jalen Brown.
Alex Spears
Seven. Which Sixer had the most games with zero points scored during the Maury era? So this is a player who played in a game, played at least a minute, didn't score. And this player had 46 of those games which led all players during the Mori era. You look surprised. But there was players with 44. This was a tight race. 42.
Andrew Board
Wow.
Alex Spears
I had the most.
Trill Bro Dude
I don't know if he played enough games. Oh my God. Zero points played one minute. Geez. I mean, I'm gonna say PJ Tucker, but I don't know if it's pj.
Alex Spears
I think he was third on the list. Andrew, any guesses?
Andrew Board
Oh boy. Good. I don't know if this guy played enough. It's not Kyle Lowry, is it?
Alex Spears
No, it was B Ball Paul. Wow.
Andrew Board
Oh really?
Trill Bro Dude
Yeah, he probably played a lot of garbage time to be fair because he said one minute. So.
Alex Spears
Okay, Andrew
Andrew Board
two.
Alex Spears
The top five for most games started during the Maury era goes Maxi. Number one, Embiid. Number two, Tobias Harris. Number three, Kelly Oubre Jr. Number four. And this player, number five, who had the fifth most starts for the Sixers during the Maury era.
Andrew Board
The fifth most starts,
Alex Spears
Maxi mb, Tobias Harris and Tsunami Poppy. Who would be number five most starts?
Andrew Board
Say that. Say the names one more time.
Alex Spears
Maxi, mb, Tomas Harris and Ubre.
Andrew Board
Okay. Goodness. This is going to be a weird name. I feel like. I don't know. Every name that I want to stick on just does not feel right at all. Melton. I don't know.
Alex Spears
D.N. melton. That is incorrect. Trill. Do you have a name?
Trill Bro Dude
I'm not sure if it's right, but I'm going to say James Harden.
Alex Spears
I think he was sixth. It is Seth Curry.
Trill Bro Dude
Paul George.
Andrew Board
Seth Curry.
Trill Bro Dude
Curry and a half.
Alex Spears
All right, Trill, board is yours.
Andrew Board
That is weird.
Trill Bro Dude
Thought you were trying to trick us and say it was going to be someone. That was actually fairly obvious. Give me eight.
Alex Spears
Eight. One of Maury's first big moves was trading Al Horford to Oklahoma City. There were five other players involved in that trade. Danny Green, Terence Ferguson, Teo Maladon, Vincent Poirier, and Vasili Micich. Which of those five players played the most NBA games post trade? So again, the names. Danny Green.
Trill Bro Dude
Say the names again.
Alex Spears
Danny Green, Terrence Ferguson, Teo Maladon, Vincent Poirier, and Mitsich.
Trill Bro Dude
I know. I mean, it cannot be Poirier. I think you're trying to trick me here.
Alex Spears
He definitely is and is most games post trade. Obviously, it would be Danny Green posture if it was career.
Trill Bro Dude
I'm gonna say Teo Maladon.
Alex Spears
That is correct.
Trill Bro Dude
I was like, you guys were so bad. He probably played a bunch of games for you, because I was thinking I was like, me just could be. Danny Green got injured. But my favorite thing I love to tell about just a microcosm for the Sixers. The last 10 years, Danny Green won a championship with every single team that he played before us. And both year, both years that he played for us, he got injured in the second round, and then we lost the series both times because we were so dependent on Danny Green being the glue to keep the team together, that we literally just fell apart right when he got injured. So shout out to Danny Green.
Alex Spears
One of my memories from this question, the. My first interaction with Trill, first time I ever. You were ever brought to my attention, was a fake group chat message that you posted on Twitter of Pretend Thunder fans talking and hyping up Teo Melodon. That is my first memory. He.
Andrew Board
You know, we. We did that, too.
Alex Spears
That's why I liked it so much, because it was very accurate.
Trill Bro Dude
Kindred spirits before you guys. So, I mean, we. We. We knew what it was like. A lot of KJ McDaniels fans out there.
Andrew Board
Yeah, that's true.
Alex Spears
Okay, Andrew, board is yours.
Andrew Board
Got Teo. Well, it's just like a blob player. Okay, four.
Alex Spears
Question number four. During a game in which he scored 39 points. This Maury era sixer tied an NBA record for most consecutive threes over multiple games by hitting 13 straight threes. Who is it?
Andrew Board
13 straight threes.
Alex Spears
13 straight threes over multiple games by a. Over multiple games tied in NBA.
Andrew Board
Golly niang.
Alex Spears
Nope. He did have a game with a lot of threes, didn't he? He had like 8 or 9.
Andrew Board
I feel like he did maybe an 11.
Trill Bro Dude
I'm actually. I. I should know this because it. It. And this was during the. More year. To be clear, while he was. Okay, because I actually was gonna say Shake Milton, but Sheikh Milton was. Prior to Maury being hired, he. He made like 11 straight in the 19. The 20. 19, 22. Remember the Paul George, Sheikh Milton famous game where he gave him like 38 points and he was. They were just killing the Clippers. It was. It inspired one of my favorite moments.
Andrew Board
No, no, I don't remember this.
Trill Bro Dude
No, there's a famous. There's a famous tweet that came from this. From Tyler I am where he said, help, help, help. I'm in hell. And it's quote, quote, tweeting Paul George guarding Jake Milton,
Andrew Board
which.
Trill Bro Dude
Which. Which is the only reason I really remember that. I also remember all of this, except for apparently a few of our trivia questions here. I'm gonna go and say. I'm actually gonna say Danny Green.
Alex Spears
Danny Green. The correct answer was. And I just want to say double check this.
Trill Bro Dude
It's not Tobias Harris, is it?
Alex Spears
No.
Livy Dunn
Okay.
Alex Spears
It is. You know, I must have done my. My search wrong. It is Sheikh Milton, but it must have happened because I just went through his three years dirt. When Maury was there,
Trill Bro Dude
it was just before. It was before COVID shut down March 2020.
Andrew Board
I mean, you kind of have to give him the point or at least like a. Like a mega ghost or something here.
Alex Spears
Let's. You know what? It'll be a tiebreaker if you guys tie. I'll put it over here to the side.
Andrew Board
That's fair. That's fair.
Alex Spears
I think it is. Trills turn.
Trill Bro Dude
Yeah. Give me five.
Alex Spears
Andre Drummond made 35 three pointers during his two stints with the Sixers during the Moore era. In Sixers history, There are only three centers who hit more than 35 threes during their time in Philly. Now, the obvious one is Joel Embiid. Who are the other two centers? You get one point per correct answer. Now, the way I decided centers, I would say both of these guys are thought of as centers. Now, they may have played some power forward during their Career. But I would say generally we think of these guys as centers.
Trill Bro Dude
Okay, so is it our guy, Mike Moscow?
Alex Spears
Mike Moscala. That is correct.
Trill Bro Dude
Very, very important to the Sixers. Thunder.
Alex Spears
Relationship. Love.
Andrew Board
Moose. Moose is the best. What a great guy. What a great guy.
Alex Spears
Can you get the other name? True.
Trill Bro Dude
This one I'm going to struggle with a little bit more because we really. I've been begging for a stretch five ever since we let go of Mike Moscow. And they're like, nope, we're never going to do it. With the Sixers. Right. Like specifically with the Sixers. Okay. Was. So this was prior because Moscala was prior to Maury. So it could go back. This is not going to be the right answer, but I'm gonna guess and say Dwayne Dedman.
Alex Spears
Dwayne Dedman. That is incorrect. I believe he did briefly. I think he under in the Mori era.
OnDeck Advertiser
He.
Trill Bro Dude
He played during the Moriara and he actually played very early on in his career with us. But I don't know if he played enough and I don't think he shot threes until later in his career. So we just have not had a lot of guys that shot threes.
Alex Spears
As a deadman is like an all time NBA smart guy who like, was only talking by like analytics.
Andrew Board
Oh, yep. Yeah.
Trill Bro Dude
Got that big payday and then got salary dumped like within a year.
Andrew Board
Yeah. Danny LaRue has said. Has said his name more than anybody in the world. What? Say this question again.
Alex Spears
So centers in Sixers history who have hit more than 35 threes in their Sixers career. So we got Embiid, we got Mascala, and there's one more name.
Andrew Board
Is it Drummond?
Alex Spears
The question was about Drummond.
Andrew Board
Yeah. Oh, sorry, I missed. I missed. I was answering the text. I was answering a text during you asking the question. I was just counting on.
Trill Bro Dude
Truly, Sam, she and Mood.
Andrew Board
I need to lock in a little bit. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. So besides Andre Drummond, which is a very obvious answer, I suppose. Okay, okay. My gosh, this is going to be a weird answer if Trill doesn't know it. There's no chance that I know this. I don't know Mo Bamba?
Alex Spears
No.
Trill Bro Dude
Wow, that was a good guess though. I got shocked because I was like, wow, I forgot Mo Bamba played for the six.
Alex Spears
I thought remembering Mescala might help you get this other name because. Another tall white center.
Andrew Board
Huh?
Alex Spears
Spencer Hawes.
Andrew Board
Spencer Haas. Spencer Haas was in OKC during the Western Conference finals in full Sonic's garb.
Alex Spears
Oh, really?
Andrew Board
And not One soul knew who he was.
Trill Bro Dude
He's from Washington. Right. So, yeah, he's probably.
Andrew Board
Listen, I do. I do a. I do a Thunder podcast. It's. It's on Patreon, and we. I was doing the podcast with. But I do it with a bunch of younger guys that are covering the Thunder, and I showed them the picture of Spencer Hawes, and they all looked at me with blank faces saying, we don't know who that is.
Trill Bro Dude
Right. I was gonna say, we're. We're unknown. We.
Andrew Board
We know who.
Trill Bro Dude
Spencer Hall.
Andrew Board
I had nobody to share this. The Spencer Hawes, like, knowledge with. Like, no one was with me.
Alex Spears
So, Andrew, does this mean that he didn't wear the shirt? He didn't put the shirt on.
Andrew Board
He did not wear the shirt. He was very excited. He was celebrating with the spurs after the game. This is after game seven. Yeah.
Alex Spears
Drill, did you know that Yaxel wore the shirt?
Trill Bro Dude
No, I didn't.
Andrew Board
Axel wore the shirt.
Alex Spears
Thunder playoff game.
Trill Bro Dude
Let's go. Love it.
Andrew Board
It's true.
Trill Bro Dude
Love it. And then you guys. Well, you guys didn't get a chance to draft. No. Because he went right before you.
Andrew Board
Yeah, it's true.
Trill Bro Dude
That was the guy I thought made most sense for you guys, but I didn't. Yeah.
Andrew Board
I don't know that they would have done that, but, you know, we'll never know. We'll never know.
Trill Bro Dude
I'm not sure. They. They got. They got off either way.
Alex Spears
I think him and Draymond seemed like a great pair.
Trill Bro Dude
Perfect.
Andrew Board
Hilarious. A hilarious pair.
Alex Spears
Okay, final question. Andrew, you get first dibs on this. Ferkin Cork Moss requested a trade at least twice during his time with the Sixers, An NBA record for guys most of our listeners do not remember.
Trill Bro Dude
What was his know your worth King?
Alex Spears
What was his career high in points? Now you get to choose who answers first. You can make trillion.
Andrew Board
Oh, my God.
Alex Spears
Or you can answer first, and Trill will go higher or lower. Freaking Cork Moss.
Andrew Board
Oh, my gosh. His trade request is genuinely hilarious. It cannot be that high.
Finn AI Advertiser
The career.
Andrew Board
His career high cannot be that high. I'll say 24 points.
Alex Spears
All right, Trill, would you like to go higher or lower?
Trill Bro Dude
Higher.
Alex Spears
Trill is raising the roof, and that means that Trill is the winner because he scored 34. Once Upon a time.
Trill Bro Dude
I was gonna say, I know we had over 30.
Oregon Lottery Announcer
Yeah.
Trill Bro Dude
I was actually gonna guess 35. So it was right on the line.
Alex Spears
So that would have been. That would have been. Andrew, you should have made him. Yes, but you definitely would have gone under. And you would have won by one point.
Andrew Board
Oh no. Fer and Cork ma
Trill Bro Dude
the best. The best fringe NBA player who could occasionally look like Luca mixed with Steph on any given night.
Alex Spears
And that's why he wanted his own team all those years.
OnDeck Advertiser
That's right.
Alex Spears
Congrats, Trill.
Trill Bro Dude
Thank you.
Andrew Board
What was your favorite Firkin Cor nickname? Turkish Delight or Goat Maze?
Trill Bro Dude
Goat Boss certainly is. Is the best because there was literally an account called Goat Maz on Sixers Twitter. Like the Fur Cod course Boss. Sixers experience is another perfect encapsulation of this time period because we declined his third year option and then brought him back on a vet minimum, signed him to a contract extension and that's ultimately why they ended up having multiple trade.
Alex Spears
He wanted to leave the entire time.
Andrew Board
He hated every second of it.
Trill Bro Dude
By the way, if you want another encapsulation of this era, Daryl Morey era and prior to Daryl Morey, Furkon Korkmas started a Game 7 for the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2021 playoffs. And I think that. And when Danny Green got hurt, he closed that series. I think it is a little bit under discussed when it comes to the history of the Sixers how badly we needed depth and rotation players that we started. P.J. tucker and Furcon Cork Moss. P.G. tucker, who was in his late 30s at the time.
Andrew Board
Wow.
Trill Bro Dude
In. In both started game sevens for the Sixers.
Andrew Board
Yeah. When they asked Furcon to start, they said he said no, but they made him do it anyways.
Finn AI Advertiser
So.
Andrew Board
Poor. Poor Firkin. Poor Perkin. Okay, go listen to the, you know, ball podcast. It's great. You have to. You have to. If you've never listened to it, you have to at least go listen to the episode where Trill finds out live on the pod. I believe you guys have clipped basically that whole section and put it on your podcast feed.
Trill Bro Dude
That's correct.
Andrew Board
Go listen to it. It is hilarious.
Alex Spears
It's important to note that Trills co host Sam Sheehan is a Celtics fan. So this trade is like the biggest, you know, ball trade possible.
Andrew Board
Although. Although I will say that Sam was like way too analytical throughout the whole reaction podcast. It made me really mad because it was like he won't. He's not giving a real reaction. Like he's giving like a measured reaction to all this. This isn't cool.
Trill Bro Dude
Sam knew that it was going to happen. He didn't know it was the Sixers, but he had heard that Jalen was going to get traded and knew that it was going to be an underwhelming. Return quote, unquote, is what. So he kind of mentally prepared himself for it. And I think that one of the things that just. Just knowing Sam. Sam has been like the Jaylen Brown defender, like, for. And was honestly vindicated in 2024 when they won and he won Eastern Conference finals and finals mvp. And he was just like, we need Jalen because he just makes the team have a higher ceiling and whatever. And so I think that Sam's reaction was basically the opposite of my reaction, where I had no idea. And he had a little bit of mental preparation. So, yeah, I was gonna say in defense of Sam, I know that deep down he was crushed because Jalen's his guy, but he had. He already went through the steps of mourning and coping in a way that I was like, what is going on? And it has been the year of, you know, ball. We had the best playoff series in the first round.
Alex Spears
Yeah.
Trill Bro Dude
Going seven and then the three one comeback, Joel comes back, and then this trade happens. So it's been the first reverse fortune ever in the history of the Sixers Celtics time period during this, because the last time when he first joined the podcast, they beat us in 2023 in the series that I described. That destroyed my spirit.
Andrew Board
So, yeah, tell Sam that we do not listen to, you know, ball for measured takes.
Alex Spears
Okay, well, this.
Trill Bro Dude
This whole we watch off the wall reactionary stuff, baby.
Andrew Board
Yes, please. That's what I wanted the whole time.
Alex Spears
This whole upcoming season is just going to be solely focused on those two teams and the relationship between them because of this, like, Jalen Brown discourse. Like, that's not going away anytime soon.
OnDeck Advertiser
Yeah.
Trill Bro Dude
And by the way, I just want to put this out there. I already said it on the podcast. They're gonna win 60 games in the regular season next year. Like, they have solved regular season basketball to the point where it's like. Like they. No matter what they do, no matter who they roll out, like. And Sam brought this up on the podcast yesterday. Jalen Brown swapped in for Jason Tatum. Add Paul George and Mitchell Robinson. That's still an excellent team, even with all of the question marks. So I think that next regular season end playoffs are going to be very, very interesting between those two teams, assuming that they're both there at the end.
Andrew Board
Yeah. If you make wagers, wagering that the Celtics will have more wins than the Sixers, I think is a good one.
Trill Bro Dude
Yeah. Regular season wise, they. They're definitely gonna be a better team.
Andrew Board
Playoff wise. There's just no way, though. There's just no way we'll see.
Trill Bro Dude
And the, the, the thing that I've been telling people is I would not be shocked if Jason Tatum's name is very high on MVP ballots next year.
Andrew Board
Wow. Okay. All right. Well, we appreciate you trail joining the show. Hope you guys are enjoying summer league. Dave and S are gonna have content for you guys all next week. We actually have an Alan Graves video that went up where S is interviewing Alan Graves, so go check that out. Hope everybody is having an awesome weekend and we'll talk to you guys again next week.
