Good morning and welcome to the NBA Daily. Coming up, the warriors beat the Grizzlies. We got Marcus Thompson to talk about it, and we're going to go a little bit deep on Orlando and Atlanta. Good morning, everybody. Good morning.
Esperahenny
S. Good morning.
Dave Dufour
Play in action last night? We.
Esperahenny
We got so back.
Dave Dufour
You know, I. I'm not going to say we got two good games. We did get one really good game.
Esperahenny
Yeah.
Dave Dufour
Memphis and. And Golden State. The warriors get the big win. We went deep on the Warrior side with Marcus, so stick around for that after the break. Yes, the Grizzlies are not done. Even though they did get beat by the warriors. They've got to go on to play another game Friday night. We don't know who the opponent is going to be yet, but either Dallas or Sacramento. What do you think about the Grizzlies? I mean, you know, they come back from down 20 and they have that really great run. John Morant goes out with a. With an ankle sprain, comes back and actually has kind of a heroic run there. Give me your impressions of. Of how the Grizzlies played.
Esperahenny
Yeah, this was a great, gritty, gritty loss for the Grizzlies. You know, we talk about grit and grind. They really embodied that tonight with the way that they fought. I thought that part of it was awesome to watch. Between Jaw coming back from the ankle injury, I thought Zach Edie sort of figured it out as the game progressed. I want to talk about that for a second, a little bit more. But Desmond Bane, the way that he was shooting the rock, the way that he was basically like leading this team on the offensive end. They got contributions from a couple of different rotation guys, too. It was just a gritty way to try and grind out this away game to try and get to seventh. They just, they couldn't do it because of a few different things. So people are going to bring up Zach Eddy, right? Because in the first half, the warriors constantly went at Edie and pick and rolls. They constantly went at him basically anytime he was guarding anybody. And. And the thing was, basically they went Jimmy Butler on Zach Edie, which was the matchup the warriors were going for. Warriors were completely comfortable with Zach trying to attack offensively. That part of it 100% a growing and learning experience for a rookie who's still trying to figure out how he can be impactful second half. I thought he really figured it out. And the the Grizzlies did a better job of pre switching certain actions to make sure that he stays around the paint. The warriors did. I mean the Grizzlies did a great job of kind of walling off the paint in certain areas with Edie in the middle. He had 17 rebounds, which is offensive rebounds, seven offensive rebounds which is huge for this Grizzlies team with the way that they struggle in the half court. And he was a plus six in 32 minutes. So I think Edie, yes there were moments where you could say man, why are they going to him in the post? It doesn't make sense for them to try and force the situation with him offensively and defensively. There are moments where he was getting hunted. Yes, you expect that from a rookie. My question is where was Jaren Jackson.
Dave Dufour
Jr. Well that was going to be where I was heading next. Jaren Jackson winds up with 18 points in the game, you know, four fouls. So at least you know he stayed out of foul trouble. But as it felt to me like he just didn't make any real impact on the game, he was 4 of 9 from 3. Again he scored 18 points but he was minus 7. And and single game plus minus doesn't tell you everything but it can tell a story. And again I contrast that with winning the Zach Edy minutes and losing the Jaren Jackson minutes and that's your game. You know, it's a five point game. Jaren Jackson's -7 in 39 minutes.
Esperahenny
See and this is actually part of why there's so much pressure on Zach Edie, because the right the Grizzlies struggled with going Jaren at the 5 and.
Dave Dufour
So they were forced rebound.
Esperahenny
Exactly. They he had six rebounds in this game. He is the second tallest player on either roster and there were five guys who out rebounded him tonight. So like that's a very, very persistent issue with Jaren. Obviously the fouls are another aspect but generally they couldn't go to him at the 5 right. Because they were just getting destroyed on the glass when Edie wasn't on the floor. And so yes we can blame Edie for rookie mistakes and kind of learning curve and all that type of stuff but I honestly thought the if you wanted to blame a Grizzlies big for tonight's loss, it would be Jaren.
Dave Dufour
You know, they Ran it a couple times. Ja and Jaren pick and roll. But what happened to that? Like, why aren't we getting more of that? Jared? Yeah, you know, again, we get plenty of screens from Zach Eady, but Zach Eaty is not a threat to Pop at all. He doesn't really apply the same pressure to the defense. I mean, again, he can finish and he's huge, which you know, you cannot teach huge. But you know, to get Jaren going and to open things up for Ja. I mean, again, this is when you got to get Ed on the bench because you want those driving lanes open. But they've got the shooting and it, it seems to me that they should have been able to go to that lineup with Santee aldama at the 4 and Jaren Jackson at the 5. To be able to match. He was, but to be able to match up with the warriors, especially in that run where the warriors were hitting shots and the Grizzlies just couldn't. And now the fortune changed in the second half. Obviously the, the warriors just weren't making shots. Grizzlies started to. And you mentioned Desmond Bay and when we first started, he put up 30. He was five of eight from three. The three that he missed, they were in the basket. I mean, they just, they rolled out.
Esperahenny
And clutch moments too.
Dave Dufour
Yeah, he has, he is to me, become a big game player. You know, he's done this now a couple years in a row where he's had a big play in or early, early playoff game when Ja went down. The only reason this game stayed close was because Desmond Bain had a few ridiculous shots.
Esperahenny
Absolutely. Yeah. And like the way this Grizzlies team has played all season was to figure out how to play without jaw and to lean away from what jaw could do in the pick and roll. And so I wasn't surprised that their offense was able to sustain when Joff went off the floor with that injury. And the fact that Bane kind of seized the moment, the driving tonight was awesome. You, you mentioned the shot making, the three point shooting, but generally like creation off of drives was really impressive for Bane. Ton. Yeah, it was a huge game, a massive game for him. It's just, it's tough because now you're. You're either going to play OKC or your season's done. And so a little bit tougher of a circumstance for the Grizzlies with the season finishing, if you will. Well, it's not over yet, but you.
Dave Dufour
Know, it's not done yet, but it's not looking great. Okay. The, the early game, the Orlando Magic just dusted the Hawks by 25. They look great. Paolo Banchero started this game off his first quarter s was kind of funny. He had five assists, he had eight free throw attempts and he made no field goals. Yeah, yeah, just a weird start to the game.
Esperahenny
It was honestly kind of how the rest of the game played out too. He was 4:13 throughout. He took 11 free throws, had 7 assists, finished with 17 points. I thought it was interesting because he really struggled from the field in that mid range area. You know, Paolo likes to get into that mid range bag was just not hitting any of those shots. But the playmaking, like Atlanta was shading and throwing tons of bodies at Paolo. And Paolo was doing a great job of kind of just manipulating the Hawks defense, getting good looks for basically anybody else. And Orlando did enough to make the Hawks pay in this one. It was about as simple as that. It was too aggressive of a defensive scheme from the Hawks. Paulo was able to make them play. And then in the second half, Cole Anthony and Wendell Carter Jr. Massive nights for the Magic to, to get them this win.
Dave Dufour
Yeah, Cole Anthony, Anthony Black. I mean, it really like they got some key performances from just a bunch of guys, which is what they've been missing. You know, that was the thing as like this team when they were healthy and they were in the top of the standings and they were getting contributions from everybody. And then all these role players just kind of fell off and obviously they've, they've had guys in and out of the lineup. Trey Young got ejected in the game and you know, we didn't see on, on the TV broadcast exactly what happened, but apparently unsportsmanlike conduct. He did fake out the ref with, with the, behind the backpack. What do you think about that?
Esperahenny
Yeah, I thought that was funny. I honestly thought that was just a.
Dave Dufour
Funny thing why he got attack for that.
Esperahenny
It was silly. And, and the, the reasoning after the game, the ref explained and said it was conduct detrimental to the game, which is like, what, what are we talking?
Dave Dufour
Making a mockery.
Esperahenny
Right? Mockery basketball. Yeah.
Dave Dufour
Where you know, oftentimes at halftime entertainment is a lady who's on a unicycle juggling bowls. So we don't.
Esperahenny
She is, she is incredible.
Dave Dufour
She's the goat. But let's be honest here, right? Like, you know, it is an entertainment thing. But it was a weird night. I mean, it just. Atlanta never really got anything going and obviously, yeah, you know, they didn't have, they don't have their full roster. Right. Like no, Jalen Johnson is really the guy that, when I was watching this game, I kept thinking, oh, wow, they are missing a long athlete to, to match up against, you know, Franz and to match up against Paolo. Trey, youngsters, this.
Esperahenny
Yeah, I'll ask you this, Dave. I'm curious because now we got basically Orlando. Boston. Right.
Dave Dufour
Yeah.
Esperahenny
And we know Boston is dealing with the Jalen Brown issue. We'll see how, how healthy and available and ready he is for, for game one and moving forward. But do you think Orlando can make some noise? Do you think they could, they, they could keep up?
Dave Dufour
No, I don't.
Esperahenny
Okay.
Dave Dufour
I don't. I mean, I just don't. I think Boston is too good. I think Boston's too solid. And you know, you said this the other day on the show. If, if Boston had to sit Jalen Brown for the whole first round, they'd still win. Everyone's still taking Boston in five or six. Yeah, I don't, I, I, I just don't think Orlando has the offensive juice. You know, they put up 120 in this game, but it's Atlanta. Boston has been so locked in, especially the last six weeks. I just don't think it's going to be anywhere close.
Esperahenny
It'll be a fun defensive challenge though.
Dave Dufour
You, I agree with that. I was going to ask you, I mean, what's like the matchup that you're looking forward to with Orlando and Boston?
Esperahenny
Yeah, I think it's Paolo versus Jason Tatum, which is, I think will be the matchup throughout this game, throughout the series. Right. And Tatum is such an underrated defender. Such a, he's huge, by the way. People don't, people don't really realize how big Jason Tatum is, but you see him in person, he's like, this is a large man. And the same thing applies to Paulo Ben Caro. So it's like two guys who can just go at each other and two guys who like to get into their one on one game. Two guys who like to miss match hunt. I think again, Orlando with, with Paolo, they're going to have some troubles offensively getting to that and how much they lean on Franz Wagner to be a driver and pick and roll player. All that type of stuff is, is I think important to their offense, but defensively they might be able to pose a challenge. You know, you think of like their size, their length on the perimeter. You mentioned Anthony Black. He's, he's a great point of attack defender. But you also have Jonathan Isaac cleaning things up on the inside. Makes me think like Maybe they could steal a game, but that's. That's as far as I'm.
Dave Dufour
They have to get hot, and that's the thing. Like Boston, we know the recipe to beat Boston. Hold them below 35% on threes, shoot 40%, right. Like, they have missed theirs, and you've got to hit yours. And. And frankly, I just. I don't trust Orlando to do it. I mean, Cole Anthony and Anthony Black came off the bench and were ridiculous.
Esperahenny
Yeah.
Dave Dufour
Can they do it again? Can they do it right? I just, you know, it is what it is. The talent gap between those two teams, I think, is just too far. Atlanta, they're going on. I mean, it feels like we're just setting up for Atlanta vs. Chicago playing Friday night. What? You know, this is what it's all about. This is why we like to play it.
Esperahenny
Oh, yeah, absolutely. You know, there's. There's the. You ever watch the Lion King? And, you know, Mufasa is explaining to Simba. He's like, what's that dark side is. That's the Eastern Conference playing tournament. We don't go there. Simba. That's. That's how it feels like with the Eastern Conference. But shout out to the Hawks, man, they're going to win the consolation spot.
Dave Dufour
But, no, I think it's gonna be the Bulls anyway, guys, hang out. Stick around after the break. Marcus Thompson, post game. After the warriors win, the warriors survived the play in, and they will go on to face the Houston Rockets. Here to talk about it, because he was in the arena, Marcus Thompson. Marcus, give me one word to describe the game.
Marcus Thompson
Entertaining.
Dave Dufour
It was awesome.
Marcus Thompson
What else do you want? What more could you ask for? That's basketball, baby.
Dave Dufour
What did you think about how the warriors came out? And in particular, how aggressive Jimmy Butler was attacking the basket? I mean, that was the difference in the game to me.
Marcus Thompson
Well, to start, to me, they just needed to. I mean, this team, basically, when they make threes, they look like they could win a championship. And when they don't, they look like they're so far from a championship. So the real, like, difference. What makes Jimmy, like, the difference maker in this is that he helps them score without raining threes, right? And so, you know, Memphis, as teams do when they come in this building, started making everything, and Jimmy was just able to get everybody to relax, like, get inside. They were playing them very weird. You know, they were almost basically daring him in. In a weird way to say, yeah, let's see if you can get 30. Which, you know, odd choice, but it Definitely got Jimmy going. So, yeah, this was, this was way closer than it should have been. The warriors just, they just don't have enough composure for these one off type of games. Like, it's just a very weird energy. It's been like that for the three years. They just don't. They get real tight and nervous.
Dave Dufour
Did the signature Steph Curry late game turnover, that almost puts the game in peril. I thought that was a little out of character, to be honest.
Marcus Thompson
He's got the, he's got the, you know, it's contagious.
Dave Dufour
He's a Warrior.
Marcus Thompson
It's so weird.
Esperahenny
It's. It's funny you say that because I did feel like they played with their food throughout this game, especially in that second quarter, a little bit in that third and fourth too. And that's sort of been equality over the last couple weeks with this warriors team. You think of that spurs game, you think of obviously losing in, in the Clippers game to be able to get to this point in the first place. What is it about this team that has, like you said, Marcus, like, such highs and then the lows can get really, really low too.
Marcus Thompson
I mean, I think it starts and stops with Steph. Like, he's such a high variance player, right? This thing can go as. Skyrocket as. As you want it to go a step. You know what I'm saying? Like, he could take you to the moon. But also, I just think people forget this. Like, it matters to be 6 foot 3. Like, people can do things against you. They can trap you, they can w. You can get them, you can speed them up a bit. Like, this has always been the thing. He's gotten so much better at dealing with it. But 6 foot 3 is 6 foot 3. When your best player is 6 foot 3, like, there's some things you can do against it. So I do think the nature of their offense, which requires so much movement and so much passing, which all is just more opportunity to turn the ball over, right? All more opportunity to swing. Swing to an open shot that a lot of dudes just don't make regularly. Like, that's just. I mean, bottom line, the best shooters in the world shoot 40%, which means they're missing six out of 10. So that type of offense, I remember coming up, Dave, I'm telling you, man, our AAU coach used to preach into us. High percentage shot, high percentage shot. Like, the warriors just simply do not believe in high percentage shots. They believe in the shots they've been hitting in practice. By every definition is a Low percentage shot, but they always feel like it's high percentage shot. Drive me crazy. They did it tonight. Fast break GP2. Butler kicks it out for a Quinn post 3. Like you don't do that. But that's their style of play. And it leads to these like hold spells and high. Various kind of runs.
Dave Dufour
Yeah, they went from what, like about the seven minute mark of the second quarter till the fourth without hitting a three. Right. I mean, that was when. When Memphis erased that big lead. I mean, what. What did you think about the rotations? You know, I thought Quentin Post gave him good minutes. But. But what'd you see with what Steve Kerr was doing rotation wise?
Marcus Thompson
It's. It's weird because the very reason, like Jonathan Kaminga has been exiled doesn't stop it from happening. They still below assignments. They still are out of place. They. Jimmy and Draymond spends the entire game yelling at Buddy Hill for not being in position or doing a thing where it's like a press up take away the three and the guys kind of caught in between. So it's weird. I do think those guys make the hustle plays and when they're on, they rotate. But I mean, the NBA is just so good and it's so fast that if you just, if you, if you just are on the wrong foot at all, like it's going to cost you. And they're. They're bench players for a reason. They're just. You give them seven plays, they're going to be good for five. Two of them things, you're going to cook them. And that's, that's why they're role players.
Dave Dufour
Right.
Marcus Thompson
And right. When you got four guys out there, it just increases the opportunity. And then again, it's like all heavy in rotation. Right. Everything is rotation. Draymond says the goal is to put a defense in rotation. And the warriors live in rotation. So the more they rotate, the more mistakes they create.
Esperahenny
Yeah, there was, There was a time in the game where obviously second quarter, start of second quarter, it was the Jimmy Butler lineup, no Steph Curry. Right. And that fueled the game for them. Like they, they went on a massive run. It was actually same against the Clippers, same against. Right. They're finding an identity there without Steph. I think free throws is a big part of it. Like they took. Jimmy took 18 free throws tonight, which is a huge part of how he got to his 38 points. What is it about this team? Actually, better question that than that is, does the free throw merchant ability of Jimmy Butler give a change up for this warriors offense.
Marcus Thompson
Oh, yeah. It's a Barry Zito 12 to 6 curveball.
Dave Dufour
Yeah.
Marcus Thompson
You know what I'm saying? You know. You know what it is? The other thing, you know, the free throws are the end result.
Esperahenny
Yeah.
Marcus Thompson
But I think the. The actual, like, schematic or philosophical difference is they match up. Hunt. They don't match up.
Dave Dufour
Right.
Marcus Thompson
When it's Steph.
Esperahenny
Yeah.
Marcus Thompson
When it's Jimmy out there, Jimmy's out here. Like.
Dave Dufour
It was eeny meaty Edie for the first half of the game, right?
Marcus Thompson
Yes. No question. No question. Then they put. They brought out. Who was it, like, Conchar and Santio Dama. He's like, yeah, come on.
Dave Dufour
It was a parade of white guys for Jimmy Butler to attack Jimmy.
Marcus Thompson
Jimmy sees a white guy, he's going for the jugular. Jimmy's not messing around with this. But like, that. To me, they do that. When it's Steph. You don't really see that. They only do it when it's like a big. They want a big on Steph, but when it's Steph, it's run the offense. Right. Let's create a mistake with Jimmy. It's matchup hunting. Let's take our time. And you guys remember this. Remember when they were in championship form and they had that kind of rough and rugged second unit? It was like David west and Sean Livingston, and they'd want, like, three yards in the cloud of smoke, right? They want to win. Those minutes, eight to six, played completely different basketball. This is a version of that, just a little bit more offensively potent, where they just say, all right, steps out. Let's just run an entire new system and be a completely different team.
Dave Dufour
I know the game just ended, but you want to think about the Rockets at all. How. How do you feel about the warriors going into Houston?
Esperahenny
Steph Curry.
Marcus Thompson
Yeah, I mean, Steph. Steph's going to be a problem for them. And it. It starts like. It's everything to me. In every series, the number one question you have to answer is, what is their plan for Steph? You got a good plan, you got a good chance. And the Rockets have a good plan. Like, they got bodies to throw at them. The difficulty is their offense. Like, do they sacrifice offense to. To put a guy. To put Atari Easton in there, or do they just hope Tari Eason just has a game where he can get you 17 points? Right. This is the kind of betwix that Steph puts on a team. Like, even tonight, it was like, all right, Scottie Pippen Jr. Get out here and probably Vince Williams Jr. Might have been a better option, but you just sacrificed too much offense. So you're going to see Houston in that a lot and you already know who's going to want to be on him and it's Dylan Brooks and then he's going to try to go back. And if that's the recipe, hopefully he may is smarter to know that. But you just. You're not. You're not beating Steph Curry with Dylan Brooks. It's going to have to be like how they do it. Amen. Thompson is just.
Dave Dufour
I'm in. Thompson is the guy.
Esperahenny
Yeah, that's the guy. That's the guy.
Marcus Thompson
Yeah. I just. It was great for the one game. Remember they played the warriors four times. The warriors won the first three. It was a great plan for one game against the entire team. I would caution our man and like, this is Stephen Curry and it's seven games. It sounds good to you know what I'm saying? Like, he's going to figure out something, they're going to have a counter, and if he's really good on it, that means he won't be on Steph. That's all that means if he's really good on Stephen, he won't be on Steph. They're going to run him through three screens and it's somebody else. So this is going to be an interesting matchup. I just, I wonder. To me, it's going to come down to Jalen Green. Jalen. If Jalen Green gets buckets, if they can score, they're. They're just such a problem because they. They just have athletes all over the place.
Esperahenny
How much mood, how much looney do you think we end up seeing in that series? Because the Rockets.
Guest
Really.
Dave Dufour
None.
Esperahenny
Just because, like, the Rockets are massive and yeah, Memphis is massive tonight. But Edie, again, very different type of big than like Steven Adam.
Dave Dufour
Yeah, but you can't play Steven Adams against Steph Curry. You just be able to do it.
Marcus Thompson
I think. I think they're going to try to run him off the court. I think they want to run. So, you know who.
Esperahenny
I play small all the time.
Dave Dufour
Yeah.
Marcus Thompson
You know, I think instead of Luna, you get this series. I think you get Jonathan coming in the series. I think this is the time where you dust him off and say, well, he's put up. Let's just go.
Dave Dufour
Great numbers against Houston all season.
Esperahenny
He has.
Marcus Thompson
Yeah, yeah, he's been great against Houston. He's actually been good against Memphis. The thing about. The thing about Houston is they make enough mistakes offensively and they got enough, like, sketchy shooters on the floor that you could survive if Kaminga makes a mistake. You know what I'm saying? Like, yeah, Houston will. Houston will show you some mercy. Whereas you saw, like, tonight, you make the mistake. Desmond Bain is drilling it.
Dave Dufour
He was amazing.
Marcus Thompson
Like, it's insane. Like, they're not making, they're not missing shots. Yeah, he also, it's the, the ghost of 27 straight mystery. So you never know what happens.
Esperahenny
Oh, are you.
Dave Dufour
Are you making a trip down there, Marcus?
Marcus Thompson
Am I making a trip to Houston? You know I'm going to Houston.
Dave Dufour
Exactly. Well, we're gonna get you in here next week, guys. Go and read Marcus over at the Athletic. I'm sure you know, big, big written piece. Oh, that's right. Steph Curry. That's gonna do it for the show, folks. Thank you guys for listening. For Marcus Thompson and Esperahenny, I'm Dave Dufour and this, this is Ben, the NBA Daily. Thanks for waking up with us.

Golden State Warriors vs. Memphis Grizzlies: A Gritty Battle
The episode kicks off with an in-depth analysis of the Warriors' narrow victory over the Grizzlies. Dave DuFour introduces the topic at [03:19], highlighting the game's intensity and the Warriors' ability to secure a crucial win.
Esperahenny on Grizzlies' Resilience and Challenges
Esperahenny ([04:29]) describes the Grizzlies' performance as "a great, gritty loss," emphasizing their relentless effort despite the defeat. She commends Zach Edie's tenacity, noting his "17 rebounds, seven offensive rebounds," which was pivotal for the team despite his rookie challenges. 「Zach Edie sort of figured it out as the game progressed,」 she explains ([04:50]).
Jaren Jackson Jr.'s Impact
Dave raises concerns about Jaren Jackson Jr.'s ([06:33]) performance, pointing out his limited impact with "18 points but minus 7 in 32 minutes." Esperahenny counters by suggesting that Jackson’s inability to match up defensively against Edie was a significant factor in the loss ([07:13]).
Team Dynamics and Player Contributions
The conversation shifts to team dynamics, with Esperahenny highlighting Desmond Bane's crucial role in clutch moments ([09:10]). 「Bane has become a big game player," she states ([09:08]), crediting his leadership in the Grizzlies' offense, especially when Jackson was injured.
Upcoming Playoff Scenarios
The hosts discuss the Grizzlies' impending game against either Dallas or Sacramento, assessing their chances of advancing. Esperahenny remains cautiously optimistic but acknowledges the tough path ahead ([10:15]).
Orlando Magic Dominates Atlanta Hawks
Transitioning to the Eastern Conference, Dave and Esperahenny review the Orlando Magic's commanding 25-point victory over the Atlanta Hawks ([10:15]).
Paolo Banchero's Struggles and Adaptation
Paolo Banchero's performance is dissected, noting his initial struggles from the field but eventual adaptation through playmaking ([10:42]). 「Paolo was doing a great job of manipulating the Hawks defense," Esperahenny observes ([11:36]).
Key Performances from Magic's Bench
Dave highlights the contributions from Cole Anthony and Anthony Black, whose standout performances were instrumental in securing the win ([11:36]). Despite setbacks like Trey Young's ejection for unsportsmanlike conduct ([12:18]), the Magic showcased depth with role players stepping up.
Playoff Prospects: Orlando vs. Boston
The discussion moves to the anticipated playoff matchup between Orlando and Boston. Esperahenny questions Orlando's ability to compete with Boston's strength, while Dave ([13:40]) expresses skepticism about Orlando's offensive prowess against a solid Boston team. 「I just don't trust Orlando to do it," Dave confidently asserts ([13:42]).
Marcus Thompson's Post-Game Insights
Marcus Thompson joins the conversation post-Warriors' win, providing an eyewitness perspective from the arena ([17:08]). He describes the game as "entertaining" and praises Jimmy Butler's aggressive play, which was a decisive factor in the Warriors' strategies. 「Jimmy helps them score without relying on threes," Thompson explains ([17:10]).
Steph Curry and Warriors' Inconsistencies
Thompson critiques the Warriors' inconsistency, attributing it to Steph Curry's high variance performance ([19:19]). He discusses the challenges of relying heavily on three-point shooting and the inherent risks of their offensive system, which often leads to turnovers and defensive lapses.
Defensive Strategies and Rotations
The hosts analyze Steve Kerr's rotation strategies, highlighting issues with defensive assignments and the Warriors' reliance on rotation, which sometimes leads to defensive breakdowns ([20:53]). Marcus emphasizes the importance of disciplined rotations in the high-paced NBA environment ([21:13]).
Upcoming Series: Warriors vs. Rockets
Looking ahead, the conversation turns to the Warriors' upcoming series against the Houston Rockets. Thompson ([24:38]) anticipates a strategic battle focused on countering Steph Curry's influence. He predicts that Houston will attempt to "run him off the court," but acknowledges the Rockets' offensive weaknesses and the persistent threat posed by Curry's shooting prowess.
Final Thoughts on Playoff Matchups
Esperahenny and Thompson conclude with thoughts on the overall playoff landscape, suggesting that while Orlando has potential, the talent gap and Boston's consistency make the latter a formidable opponent. 「Boston is too solid," Dave reiterates ([13:42]), forecasting Boston's dominance in the series.
Conclusion
The episode wraps up with a recap of the Warriors' survival in the play-in tournament and the Magic's advancement, setting the stage for thrilling playoff action. Hosts encourage listeners to stay tuned for further analysis and guest insights in upcoming episodes.
