show hi Melissa Carter, what is the teacher vent line?
Teacher 1
Basically, it's a place for teachers to vent. Because we know that teachers, you know, every day they deal with the students, they deal with the teachers, they deal with the administration, they deal with other teachers. And so they can't get in front of the classroom and show any kind of anger or frustration. They have to be kind and nurturing. So we want to give them a place to be able to vent. So it's our voicemail and you can call this number and you can if you're a teacher and you can just get it out of your system so that we can Public service it is because exactly. This is a public service we do for children because we don't want the teachers to get in front of you and do and say the things that they say on this vent line.
Melissa Carter
404-255-3535 is the vet line number. If you're a teacher and you just

want to talk, if you haven't seen math in 20 years, how do you expect to tell me how to teach math when you don't even know how to do anything without a calculator? So please, parents, lay off.
Melissa Carter
And this is the same reoccurring theme here.
Teacher 1
Yes.
Melissa Carter
Is that teachers aren't calling up necessarily about the students. They're just really angry at the parents, right?
Teacher 3
Are you kidding me? All the students are just idiots now. The parents are making them that way. They just entitle them to everything. They don't do anything now. They just sit around and play the games at home. They sit inside. They don't learn anything. They don't care about learning and the parents are just as accountable as they are. And don't get me on Sonny Pradult who keeps to trying dropping our jobs every damn year. We get paid less and less every year. Let's take your supplements out even more. That makes you want to teach, it really does. And now we're just losing jobs every year.
Teacher 2
I am so sick of these kids coming to school without paper and pencil. How are you going to expect to do anything if you don't have your supplies? And no, I don't have any for you. Hi, I'm a specialized teacher in a very poor district and I want to know how we are supposed to teach our children without textbooks. Many counties around us have plenty of material. We're expected to meet these expectations and we have nothing. My children write with crayons. Tell me how we're supposed to meet these expectations that legislators are passing down. I'm a daycare teacher and a parent sucks. The kids tell you what to do, when to do it. They bring their kids in at any time of the day, before nap, after nap when they need to.

to me becoming a teacher. I either hear oh I'm sorry or someone says oh well at least you picked an easy job. We are not just working from 8 until 3:30 every day. We work around the clock all week, weekends, nights and I'm just so sick of everyone being so discouraging when I'm entering the field.
Radio Host
Thanks.
Teacher 4
I am sick of parents that think that all of their children are perfect little angels and they can do no wrong when they come in the classroom and cuss and hit and spit and kick and totally dis. And then when you try to tell the student that they need to straighten up they tell their parents and the parents want to come in with their ghetto redneck irritating not having any common to themselves and wonder why in the hell we are treating their child so rudely when their child is the one acting like a straight and we make 20 to $25,000 a year to do this and have to take furlough days. But we, we're the students greatest greatest inspiration because we teach them and there's some bad kids and half of it is because the parents think that they can do no wrong, which is ridiculous. End of messages.
Melissa Carter
Yeah, that's the one. We've talked quite a bit about that one how there are just some parents that are just so out of touch with their own kids that they have. Like when the teachers or school calls. It feels like they're talking about a completely different person, right?
Teacher 1
Absolutely. Yeah. And then you can tell that teachers and parents don't seem to work together because we talked. We've said this so many times. If a teacher called my mom about something I did, my mom automatically sided with the teacher and then got on tone. And nowadays it seems like the parent goes to the teacher and says, how dare you punish my child.
Former Student
I would almost be puzzled if my parents got a call from school and my mom or dad said, well, why don't you tell me your side of the story?
Commercial Announcer
No way.
Melissa Carter
There was no whatever. There was no side of the story.
Former Student
I was not side of the story. I deserve to be grounded. The Bird show
