Spin Quest is a free to play social casino void where prohibited. Visit spinquest.com for more details. The Bird Show People feel very strongly about reality TV shows. You know, it's like based on what I've seen on Facebook and emails. Even friends I haven't talked to in like months have been hitting me up the last couple of days because we've been talking about this on the air, feeling really strongly about it, like do not do it no matter what. And Princess and I have worked out at Body Sculpting Ink together for a while. I mean we just see each other in the gym from time to time and I didn't know she had anything to do with Real Housewives Atlanta till just a couple of months ago where we just really started talking about it and getting to know each other. And she called a couple of days ago and she said she's creating this reality TV show here in Atlanta, and it's called Boys Club Atlanta. Right?
Development Producer
Close.
Bert
I got all that right.
Development Producer
Club atl.
Bert
Boys Club atl. And you are the creator of the show, but your official title is.
Development Producer
I'm a development producer. So I create shows, I develop them. And. And I guess the unique thing to me is I actually cast my own shows, which most development producers do not. They take their own show and they develop it and they kind of pass it off and let other people cast it, or they come into someone else's show and they help to develop out the show. I cast my own show, so I'm very hands on, and that's why I think for me, that works.
Michelle
Okay, so I want to know more
Melissa
about the Boys Club ATL concept.
Michelle
Is this a concept that you could start here and then take the franchise
Development Producer
all over the country?
Melissa
That's what I was thinking from the name.
Development Producer
It sounded like it was applicable. That's correct. Everywhere.
Princess
Yeah.
Development Producer
And so when. When Housewives kind of. Well, when. When the Real Housewives developed, I. I definitely thought of a show that was with women in Atlanta and kind of a similar format to Orange county, which, you know, was developed in. In California.
Bert
Was that one yours also, or did somebody else?
Development Producer
It's not. It's not. But I work with Evolution. Evolution is the company that I'm very close to. They're a huge production house out of la and they started the franchise. So when I started or when I developed Housewives for Atlanta, it actually wasn't Housewives. It was, you know, similar. I wasn't familiar with the brand. I wasn't familiar with the franchise. And, you know, really. Long story short, I developed a show. I thought it would be great for Atlanta to see women in Atlanta kind of, you know, successful women doing different things, different aspects of their lives.
Bert
And.
Development Producer
And, you know, I got approached by Bravo through True Entertainment, who, you know, produced the Real Housewives of Atlanta with me, and there was the show. So very long story short, that's how the show really developed. And, you know, I actually came out, found the women, and Bravo picked it up.
Bert
Oh, you picked the right women for that show, too. So you. Obviously.
Princess
The highest rated one, right?
Melissa
It is.
Michelle
Of the whole franchise.
Melissa
Yeah.
Bert
So you obviously know what you're doing. So when you started to piecemeal people in mind for this show, I'm a little nervous that my name popped into your head based on what I saw on Real Housewives of Atlanta.
Michelle
Right, right.
Bert
So how is it gonna be similar or how is it gonna be different?
Development Producer
Sure. Well, it's gonna be similar in. The only thing that I think is the same is the format or the formula with the foundation of the show. It's gonna be following the lives of five men in Atlanta, you know, and ranging from the radio personality, I hope, to all the way through to Dolvett. Like you mentioned, you. He's a business owner. We've got a couple guys in there that I'm really, really interested in that are entrepreneurs. We just want men that are businessmen, family men. We wanna follow the lives of different types of men in Atlanta. So in that respect, it's the same, but it's very, very different.
Melissa
Any of them have a big mama
Princess
like a big papa?
Bert
No, not that you know of.
Princess
Not that.
Michelle
Yes, it could be on there.
Development Producer
No, not that I know of. But, you know, a lot of people are asking me that. They're saying, well, is it kind of like Housewives but with men? There's no way to duplicate any show. There really isn't. This is a different show. This is a cast with males, which is completely different in itself. Where men. The show with men really is about their lifestyle, what they drive, you know, the women around them, the things they do for fun, family. It's kind of a mixture of everything, but more lifestyle. People want to see the lifestyle.
Melissa
So, you know, now let's just dive right in. Because I think a lot of people's concern is with reality shows and like, with Real Housewives of Atlanta, I mean, you have these women, you follow their lives. But what makes it the highest rated show is the drama and the arguments that happen between them. And we hear from reality show people, not only Real Housewives of Atlanta, but, I mean, when we've talked to reality show stars, they always talk about how, you know, I went in there with this one idea and the editing created me to be somebody completely different that I didn't realize until I saw the show itself. And. And so how do you ease, say, Bert's fears of going into this and then being turned into some villain on air?
Development Producer
Well, I always say that, you know, you self edit when you go into. And you do you go into a show and, you know, you be yourself. Certainly, I think there are certain aspects of reality TV that people want to see. They definitely don't want to tune in and see, you know, Burt taking the dog for a walk and all that stuff. So there are elements of drama to every show. But again, I think this show is different. Lot of people are kind of tying it to the Housewives brand and the Housewives franchise and all of that stuff. But I think the difference is that, you know, you are who you are. And when you get on television and you portray those things, you know, of your life, you can self edit to some degree. You can self edit. And I think that one of the things that people, you know, mistakenly do is they get on there and they kind of just. They forget that the cameras are around, which is easy to do when you. When a camera is turned on. You kind of do forget, but you do sometimes it kind of going through your life and you're just doing everything you would normally do and you forget that the camera's there. But I think that if you consciously think about the things that you're doing and the things that you want the world to see, you know, that will to some degree help you to self edit. And the other thing I really want to say too is that people have this idea that you get in there and you create something completely different. Not the case, I think if you are a certain way, let's say that, you know, some people say, oh, there's, you know, one wife is a. Whatever they. They describe her as being, let's see, a B. She definitely may have that in her personality. But, you know, we can't create a whole new person. We can't create a whole new birth.
Bert
Here's my fear though, you know, because I've been seriously considering this the last couple of days. And what I've tried to do the last couple of days is at end of the day, look back at my life that day and say, okay, what could have been exposed today on television that really isn't me, but could certainly be exploited in a different storyline. And yesterday I had a couple of meltdowns yesterday. Really stressful, professional day yesterday, behind the scenes. So I yelled at one of our employees yesterday, which I never do. Never do. But I had a meltdown during the show yesterday. And while the mics were off, I went and I chewed a guy out. I yelled at him. And I never do that. And my thought was, okay, so there's a storyline that I'm a. And then I thought, yesterday I'm on the phone with my agent because there's some stuff going on behind the scenes and I'm livid, livid yesterday. But this is one day out of my life and I am not that person. Except for that day. But now on tv, you guys have this storyline of Burke being like this loose cannon and could yell at employees,
Melissa
you know, well, I think.
Development Producer
I think that one of the things that. Or an advantage that. That you have is you are on the radio. So, you know, if the show's coming on and most of the time the talent gets to see or the cast members, they get to see the episode prior to it coming out. So you are gonna be able to see that and you're gonna say, oh, man, that, you know.
Bert
But it's 24 hours before it comes out, right?
Development Producer
It's about. You get to see it about two or, you know, about two days before it comes out, typically.
Bert
And contractually, would I be able to talk about the show on the air before it comes out? So I could say, look, even before you see this thing on Wednesday night, I want to let you know what was going on behind the scenes.
Development Producer
Well, contractually, I. I actually don't do anything to do with the contracts. You know, I develop. I develop the shows. I kind of. I do let them go to some degree. I'm always around, but I'm actually not day to day, you know, on set with you. And I don't know anything about the contracts. But what I can tell you is that, um, the women do talk about the things that, you know, if there was an episode that came on and Kim, for instance, she wanted to talk about what you've seen and kind of sort of give her side of the story. They blog, they talk about it, they come on the radio. So there are. There are ways to kind of, I guess, explain to people. Now the only downfall is the world won't get to know. Cause you're in Atlanta and, you know, you're able to.
Princess
That's the only downfall, Bert.
Bert
The world.
Princess
No, no, no.
Bert
You.
Development Producer
The only people you have to worry about is everyone. Is everyone.
Melissa
And I said affair to Bert because everybody, you know, we took a lot of calls the past couple days. So we talked about this, and I
Michelle
didn't hear any of them.
Melissa
And people are concerned and say, don't do it, don't do it. And I said, I fear, you know, I'm pushing toward it only if he's able to talk about it. Because I think that him being the radio personality and our show being so authentic, that I feel like it would be a behind the scenes of a reality show and it would be educational and the world could listen to us online. The show could let people know that. And so if Bert's able to share everything, then I feel comfortable with him doing it. But if he has to keep his mouth shut, we.
Development Producer
As a show, yeah, it wouldn't well, and that's what attracted me to Bert. Other than that, when I set out to do this show, I had a wish list, and Bert was on my wish list for sure.
Melissa
He's on all of our wish lists.
Development Producer
Bert's awesome.
Princess
Santa, please bring me a Bert.
Michelle
Bring me a Bert.
Princess
Right?
Bert
I can just go right in the stocking. I don't even take up a lot of room.
Development Producer
But no, I definitely had Bert on my wish list. And I think that what really struck me as interesting is as I started to interview a few other guys that were, you know, being considered, and I thought about. They kept bringing up Bert. Hey, if you talk to Bert from the Bert show. And hey, you know, and they were actually not only just suggesting him, but they were actually telling me that they were close friends of his or certainly knew him well enough that they thought he would be good for the show. So, you know, there was a moment, especially when I met him, and it just. It was just by chance that we met. I said, yeah, I'm gonna talk to him and see, you know, what his thoughts are. And when I called him and we talked about talking about it on air, I thought it was a great idea because definitely, I think that Bert would fit the show just based off of the fact that, you know, he is from Atlanta or he is here representing Atlanta. He's a huge part of the community. People are just so. They feel like they know Bert. I feel like even listening to him in the morning when my husband's getting up to go to work. You know, I'm one eye open and I get to listen to the show. I think that Burt is just so giving of himself, of his life to some degree. And I think that people feel like they really know him and he really fits what we're looking for. What I'm looking for in the show. I just really think that he is somebody that, you know, somebody out there will relate to Burton. Many people will relate to Burton, say, wow, you know, he's a professional. He goes to work, he takes care of his family. He's a huge, you know, figure in the community. And I think the other thing too is that, you know this show for sure. And any reality show, there's goods, there's bads, for sure, there's. There's a lot of. And in my opinion, there's a lot more good than bad because it's a huge eight hour commercial for whatever it is you're doing in your life. And I think this show definitely will, you know, bring publicity and bring additional you know, interest in the things that Bert's already doing on a national level. So, you know, that's just one of the reasons why there are a whole
Bert
bunch of angles and questions that I still have for you. My wife is on the phone, and she's been listening the whole time also. Okay, so she's got questions for you also that are gonna have to do with, like, cameras in the house.
Melissa
Yeah.
Development Producer
Let's talk about it.
Bert
How much of the children gonna be exposed? Because we do want a little exposure for Hayden because he's a little actor now also. But if we want a little, does that mean we gotta give everything? I've got questions about how much it's gonna drain me of my time and take me away from this show. And what's the most important to me is my, you know, my family and my career. So. And then I wanna play for you. What? Kim Zolciak. Your friend, and she's your friend.
Development Producer
She's a good friend. Yeah. I'm close to all the girls. I love Kim.
Bert
Well, we had her on yesterday, and she told me straight up, don't do this thing. Don't even consider it.
Development Producer
I heard she said that I didn't get to hear the show, but I did hear that she said that.
Bert
I'll play a little bit of her on the show yesterday also. The Birch Show.

I'm a development producer, so I'm a creative development producer.
Bert
Creative development producer for a reality TV show. She her brand is Real Housewives of Atlanta. She was behind that. And they are casting for a new reality show here in Atlanta called Boys Club atl.
Development Producer
Correct?
Bert
Right. And she has asked me to consider being on the show. And when she was talking to me on the phone the other day, I said, you know what, let's do this on the radio. Because I don't know that anybody has ever heard sort of the inner debate that goes on in people should I do the show and not do the show. And I think there's a very good reason for that is that generally people are going to casting calls to be on reality TV shows. So they've already said that's what I want for my life. Whereas Princess came to me and she's like, look, you already have your own life. But I think it fits well into our show. So it wasn't. It's anything but a slam dunk for me and my wife. I like what's going on in my life right now. Me and my wife are cool, the kids are healthy, I got this job, we're all straight, everything's good. So just to disrupt it with. And it really would be a huge disruption in every way, shape and form. I mean, y' all think cameras are gonna be in here every day. So it's not just affecting me, it's affecting Melissa and Jen. If Jen comes to the show with a personal story, all of a sudden she is gonna be a target for message boards also. So it not only affects the person that's on the show, but everybody that's around.
Melissa
Oh, well, forget it.
Princess
I know we gotta talk.
Michelle
That means we have to dress up every day.
Princess
Yeah, Hair.
Development Producer
Full hair.
Bert
That's right. We're all gonna have to dress up. That's right. It's over.
Michelle
Late night parties at night.
Princess
No.
Melissa
It was so sweet of you to come in. Thank you so much. Yeah, we'll see ya.
Bert
So my wife and I have been debating this back and forth, and we thought it would be a good idea to get Kim Zolciak from Real Housewives on yesterday. And Kim is a real good friend of Princess's here and she's done the show and she keeps signing up to do the show. So at least at some point I thought she'd say, you know what, go ahead and do it. But this was her reaction yesterday when we asked, you know what, Should I go ahead and do this thing or should I stay away from it?
Princess
I'm just telling you should just run like hell on my children. And you're gonna get angry at somebody at some point and they're gonna capture it on film, and I can guarantee you that's going to make it to air. So if you, if you're smart about. It's a great platform to do anything that you want to do in the future or start a company. So if you can keep that in the back of your mind and do it, that's great. But your relationship with your wife, I mean, it takes a. On everything from family to friends. I mean, it's. It's definitely difficult. They put you in situations that you normally wouldn't be in. I mean, I, you know, would rather take a bullet than have dinner with Charay. And I have to go have dinner With Charay sometimes. So I'm in situations that I don't really want to be in, and then you can tell, you know. But honestly, it's just not worth it. I'm not married, and I'm trying to juggle my kids. But you have a marriage, and it's hard. You know, you girls that you dated in the past, I mean, you just name it, it'll come out. You know, you already have, you know, a great show in the morning. I just think that you really need to really, really think about it.
Bert
Well, that's what she said yesterday. What do you think of that?
Development Producer
I think that, you know, one thing that really sticks out to me in that is. And I didn't hear that yesterday, so it's my first time hearing that. But, you know, there are five women on the show, and I love Kim. I love all of the women. I think, though, that if you were to speak to, say, all of them, you may have a different reaction or a different answer, let's say, from Lisa or from Candy or from, you know, whoever. So I don't. I don't necessarily think that, you know, and of course I want you to be on the show. That's why I'm here today. But I certainly think that, you know, it is. Kim does have a valid point, but, you know, it's really probably a good idea to get the opinion of all of the women and then, you know, for myself, I've. I've definitely sat with people that have been on reality shows. Many, many, many people. And trust me, even with this show and the buzz around it, and when it kind of, you know, leaked out that I was doing this show and it's, you know, I'm working with Evolution, who started the whole reality or the whole Housewives franchise, People kind of started to. To say, hey, well, you know, hey, I want to be on this show. Interview me. So I've had a lot of people reach out to me that you would never even think would want to be on. You know, there are people definitely, I think, that would want to do it, and there are people that have already been on reality shows who say, I would do it again. I would. The Good, the bad, the ugly, because it definitely will expose you. You know, there's going to be times that you don't want things exposed, but it's how you deal with it. And I think that for you, again, there is an advantage that you're on the radio and, you know, again, contractually, I don't know what you're going to be able to do. But certainly, I don't think it's any different than, you know, blogging or coming on the radio and talking about it. You just happen to be the, you know, the personality that, you know, you can talk a little bit about it, but again, different react, different answer. You may get a different answer from each wife.
Bert
Yeah. I mean, Kim loves that, so that's why you see her all over the place, where there are some you rarely hear of. One of the things that Stacy and I were talking about, and she's on the phone now, is how great exposure this could be for Burt's Big Adventure.
Development Producer
Absolutely. Absolutely. Without a doubt. I think that that's one of the things that will be the greatest advantage for you and any other things that you're working on or plan to work on. You know, this is definitely a platform for the world to see all of the stuff that you're doing. And Burt's Big adventure, that's an advantage for sure. It definitely will, you know, give the world a chance to see what you do. And, you know, that's a great part of who you are.
Bert
That means more money for the organization
Princess
is what that means.
Bert
Hi, baby.
Princess
Hi. Hey.
Bert
How are you?
Princess
I'm good. How are you?
Bert
Good. Princess is here, and I know you had a whole bunch of questions you wanted to run by her.
Development Producer
I'll do my best. I'll do my best.
Bert
Because now at this point, I think you. I have been really surprised that you were, like, 50. 50 on doing it or not.
Princess
Well, the old me would have. I mean, he was even afraid to tell me about it. And my initial reaction in the past would have been automatically, no, absolutely not. We're not going to do this. Okay.
Development Producer
You did mention that you were probably gonna shut it down.
Bert
No, no, no. I wasn't gonna mention it to her. Not out of fear, but I just thought she'd say, absolutely not. I mean, it was gonna be a real quick conversation.
Development Producer
You kind of said, well, I don't know.
Princess
My job is to be the protector, you know, of the family and the kids and Bert, and that's what I do. So the first reaction is, okay, you're gonna expose the most important people to me, to the world. And I don't want anyone to think badly, my husband or myself, for that matter. So I think my biggest concern is the kids. For a long time, I wouldn't even allow them to be photographed. I wouldn't let them be in any marketing materials for their school. I kept a lot of that really private. And then Found as they got older, that was just almost impossible to do anymore. So as I've given into that, I become more laxed about all those kind of things and realize that there could be some positives that come from exposure for them as long as we try to keep their world as normal as possible. And that sort of, you know, it's an extra effort that we have to make and focus on. But I think it's possible. I think my main concern is in our home.
Development Producer
Right.
Princess
I don't really care what goes on outside of the house, honestly, the events that Bert and I go to or the things that he participates in. If there's cameras and there's people involved in that outside our home, whatever happens, happens. And that part doesn't bother me, but it's inside my home, my private place, my private quiet life, you know, that we try to maintain some normalcy for the boys. What is that going to do? How much they're going to be cameras there? How much are they allowed to film? What parts of my life are they allowed to film? I mean, I'm just confused about. I don't really understand that part.
Development Producer
Okay, well, that's, that's a great question. And a lot of people are always curious about this and I'm glad I get to tell people kind of the behind the scenes and the way that it works. And this is not for all reality shows. There are some shows that, you know, Big Brother and all these shows, it's a 24 hour operation. You have cameras that are hidden, you have cameras in the house, and that's it. This is definitely not that type of show. Typically a docu series or a docudrama like this reality show is, is, is, you know, you definitely have times that you're scheduled, so to speak, to have the camera with you. For instance, if you have, if on Monday, you know, you're. You're getting ready for this great event that you're going to be going to, you may have a camera there kind of watching you get ready. People get to see what you do, you know, to get prepared for these events. Bert may be hosting the event. We talk, talk to him about that. We may talk to you about that. So we're in your home, we're scheduled to be there. We have a camera there. And whether or not the children are there and everybody gets to see them running around getting ready for bed, all of that stuff is kind of in a way up to you. I think that we will be there with a camera. It's definitely not 24 7. You have times that the camera is there. You have times that they're not there
Bert
are those scheduled times. So we can say, okay, from nine to five, the cameras are in the house. Then after five, they're gone.
Development Producer
Sort of. I mean, right? And it sort of is the answer because, you know, you start off your day and we may be with you and then things happen. We, you may say, whoa, hey, I got a call to go golfing with whoever, Tiger Woods.
Bert
I can tell you Stacy would put it into that way quicker than she wouldn't be doing a reality TV show. You're on the vert show.

Michelle
Yeah, absolutely. December 2nd was a year that my father passed away. So it's one of those, you know, it's Christmas and of course everybody wants to be in the Christmas spirit. And I actually know, I'm sure there's many people out there who face this dilemma where Christmas supposed to be a happy time. And you know, if you have kids, you want to make it special and all this stuff, but when you lose somebody that's so dear to your heart that you love so much, it's difficult sometimes it's difficult to get in that holiday spirit and, you know, be all excited about Christmas.
Melissa
Does everything sort of remind you of him?
Development Producer
Like little things that remind you of
Michelle
traditions or family traditions or. My dad was just a big Christmas guy. He was. My dad was old school, was 45 when he had me. I mean, all the Frank Sinatra, the big band, all that stuff just reminds me of my dad. Very classy, very kind of an Italian mafioso type thing going on with my dad. And he was just very. He just had this classy thing about him. And so Christmas was big for him. Uh, I have traveled throughout my life and there's one holiday I would never miss is Christmas. Cause that's just big, you know, dad that means everything to him. So, yeah, there's a lot. There are traditions, there are just the season in general just reminds me of my father. And last Christmas he passed away right before Christmas. And it was really, I mean, of course it was a terrible Christmas. We never had a Christmas without my dad. So. And what do you do? You know, he's kind of, he's the man, he's led the family. So this Christmas is interesting. You know, as anniversary came around and you never know what to expect. And I think people build things up in their mind. You're almost anticipating, waiting for how that day, how you're gonna feel, what you're gonna go through. It was a great day for me. So I think I kind of made up my mind that day how I was gonna kind of deal with Christmas and that is honor them and celebrate and live how they would want you to be if they were here.
Bert
You can tell that she's got sort of, I mean, she said her dad had, they had her when he was 45. So you could see sort of like in. Michelle here is like a 55 or 60 year old man trying to get out of a 29 year old mom.
Michelle
I'm my father. I look nothing like my father. I am a splitting image of my mother, but I am my father. I a thousand percent. And I'm an old soul. And as I've grown, as I've grown, I've learned how much of an old soul I am. I totally vibe older people. I mean, you know, I just do better than young people and I'm just so there. And I think like I said in this, in this time of the holiday season, you want to remember it doesn't mean you can't cry, doesn't mean you can't have emotions and have your moments. But to celebrate a person's life that was so wonderful and so dear to you is the biggest honor in my opinion. You know, when I, you got to think like, when I'm gone, I want people to say, this was Michelle, this is how let's remember her and let's celebrate that life that touched your life so dearly.
Bert
When I die, I want people to be in pain for a long time. I want a lot of crying and a lot of whoa, what are we gonna do?
Princess
What are we gonna make it?
Bert
And I mean for a long, extended period of time.
Michelle
I'm sure you do. I'm sure you have a list of people too.
Bert
I'm sure you do.
Princess
She said sarcastically.
Melissa
My dad was 43 when he had me, so I see what you're saying. And he passed away in two and won. And you know, I think that you have evolved from the first year because anybody that's lost a loved one that close immediate family, because grandparents are hard and aunts and uncles are hard and cousins are hard. But I mean, your parents and your siblings are the hardest. And so I think that that first year is the hardest because you go through. You go through everything. You get through Mother's Day and Father's Day and fourth of July and Christmas and things.
Bert
It's always the first without it.
Melissa
It's always the first. But then it gets so much easier because now you can reflect on a time at Christmas when he wasn't there. You know, so of think of my father all the time, but I also have experienced several Christmases without him and now it's not as painful. And also, I think you. You know, Jen, you talk about how some. Some people, if self selfishly may be depressed, whatever. When you lose a loved one that close to you, you have no idea when it's going to hit you. Like, I mean, he's been gone, you know, he's been gone, what, eight years now. And I'm trying to think of the last time I cried about him. But it hits you at the most random moments or the random thoughts. Like the thing that I hate that I can't talk to him about is politics, the war in Iraq, you know, he was a military vet and we always would talk about world news and there are times where there's something come up. I'm like, God, I wish I could know his opinion.
Bert
Here's Brittany. Good morning, Brittany. You're on Q100.

Princess
All?
Bert
Good, thanks.
Princess
Good. I just had to call in because I was totally touched by what she said. I just lost my grandmother earlier this year, sorry to put bone cancer. And she helped raise me. So what you said was just amazing because that's exactly what I'm going through right now. And I totally needed to hear that. You know, I'm 22 years old and I've been in and out of hospitals for the last 10 years. So to see somebody who's been through the hospitals with me pass away was really hard. But hearing you know that, that you were okay with it and that you felt your father there was with you, it's just amazing and it totally, totally touched me. So thank you.
Michelle
Oh, you're welcome. I'm so sorry for your loss. Oh, poor baby. I'm so sorry for your loss. And, you know, it's just one of those things that, you know, like Melissa says, it hits you and, you know, I'm one of those people I rise to the occasion. When my father passed away, it was like, I'm just. I'm like the son my dad never had. I'm the leader of the family. I just take care of my sister and my mom. And so I don't cry. It's funny, sometimes I almost feel guilty, like I don't cry over my dad all the time. Like Melissa said, there's things that trigger. But I have to say that in my. I could only give from my perspective. And when you lose somebody, you really have to think selflessly. They're in a better place. And I hate to say that sounds so cliche, like, oh, they're in a better place, but they are. And I'm a strong believer. Sometimes people can do in heaven what they can't know, what they can no longer do on earth. And I know that. I know my dad. I can name a million things that I've seen in the last year that, yeah, that he's carried me and carried my family in a way that he just. He was, you know, he's sick. He just couldn't do it. And my dad was a. I might have. Was like 6, 5. He was a very prideful man, so. And like anybody that. And I know my best friend's mom, who was very dear to me. We lost her in May of 2008, and we saw her pass away of cancer. And cancer's a very. My dad had congestive heart failure. Cancer's a very. It's the saddest way. Yeah. To see. Cause you. You know, when my dad dropped dead. And I always laugh when I say that because my dad was like crazy funny. So like, if he. I could just see him laughing, like, yeah, I did drop dead. But. But he. He dropped dead. And he used to tell me, you know, when I asked God, when I go, I want to go quickly. And so when my dad dropped dead, I was like, oh, you know, it's weird, but it's like this is how I know he wanted to go.
Bert
Here's Liz. Good morning, Liz, you're on Q100.
Princess
Hey, good morning. I'm trying to control myself. Thank you, Michelle. I don't know, it's so ironic. This morning on my long drive to work, I have an hour long drive and I was just remembering my mother. She passed away this August of cancer. And I'm from California, so I've not been able to spend much time with her because I was in the military. And then I. I ended up out here. But I went back home for three weeks and it's like God knew that, you know, she was waiting for all of us. And yeah, cancer is just the most horrible way because I saw her deteriorate every day. But thank God he put me there and I held her for the last three weeks of her life. And I saw her take her last breath. And I'm just thanking Michelle. You've given me hope. Like the last caller said. You've given me hope that hopefully it'll get better.
Michelle
It will get better. And thank you. I mean, I'm honored. I mean, I'm flabbergasted that y' all are so gracious to me. I could only say, if you haven't lost someone. And this is once again so textbook and cliche, really like. And I know, especially younger kids, I don't know if they're in school, if they're not listening. Your parents, if you're blessed enough to have amazing parents, grandparents, whoever raises you, cherish them. Those memories are what will carry you for the rest of your life. They will carry you. I mean, I can't even say. And my dad used to tell me just little things. Of course you become your parents as you get older. I mean, I think a lot of us learn that, but my dad used to say, well, unfortunately, I'm not having that. Hey, sometimes, you know, bad situations turn out to create great things.
Melissa
And one last thing, advice to parents. In this day and age of texting and emailing, handwritten things mean far more than you can ever imagine. Especially when you.
Bert
Nobody does it anymore, man. Go ahead and try to write two lines now on a piece of paper. Your hand starts to cramble up.
Melissa
Once you lose them and you have something handwritten, you'll never realize how much it means to you.
Bert
Hey, Katherine, good morning. You're on Q100.
Princess
Good morning, you guys.
Melissa
Good morning.
Princess
My mom just passed away in January and so this is our first Christmas without her. And I just want to say thank you guys because just yesterday I had two of my friends that I sat and had this very discussion with because I don't even have the heart right now for Christmas. I have no energy or desire for it, but I have to because I have a six year old little girl that absolutely is, you know, around this time is just loves it and wants to celebrate it. I finally got the energy she's been asking to put the Christmas tree up and I finally, we finally did it on Sunday and there were so many things I just had to leave at certain times when we were decorating it. And I just want to say thank you because it's hard enough when you lose a grandparent or aunt or uncle or someone, but when somebody you grew up with, like, a brother, a sister, or a mother, a father, even, whoever it is that raised you to not have them in your life. And that's all you've known all your life. And had everything, every Christmas, every celebration with them, to not have been there anymore, to celebrate those little moments devastate you. So it makes you feel like you're not alone, to hear other people and how they handle this. Because I have been fighting it for so long. And so thank you guys for this. And Melissa, I know you have had a little longer time to have to deal with this. And so I just feel like I feel better listening to you, knowing that eventually it doesn't hurt as much.
Melissa
And that's what I was just about to tell you. I'm telling you, this will be the worst Christmas. It will only get better from here, I promise you.
Michelle
And hopefully everybody gets to this point where you see their presence. I mean, I can't tell you the. I mean, I've been driving down 75, 85, listening to Frank Sinatra, you know, remembering my dad or whatever. And I see a truck that looks just like my dad's truck. And I mean, they're not common. Cause he tried to, like, pimp it out, like, his style or whatever.
Bert
He didn't have those testicles on the back, like, intern, did he?
Development Producer
No, he had, like.
Michelle
I don't know, he did all this stuff to his, like, red Chevy. And no lie, like in Atlanta. I mean, I'm from Florida, Cocoa Beach. You know, there's this truck that looks so similar to him. I'm listening to Frank Sinatra. And you have those moments and you feel their presence. And once you can get over, yeah, of course your heart's broken, of course you're grieving. But once you could get past that a little bit and think about how they would want you to be, where they would want you to be. I'm still lost for my dad passing. I mean, I'm at one of the most pivotal moments of my life without him being here. Because like Melissa said, you know, to be able to talk to him about things. My dad was with me through my whole career. He was my best friend. We were. I mean, three hours before he passed away, he called me just because that's what he did. So. So it's definitely that. But when you can get past that and, like, the memories and you feel them, I don't know, it's just something that they're just there and they let you know in these little ways that they're there. And These little things remind. It's really such a beautiful thing if you can get to that place and you can have that. It's so much more beautiful than you could ever imagine.
Melissa
And that's what's helping me with my mom. You know, she's 80, and her body's starting to give out a little bit, so. And we had a conversation like she was in the hospital, and she said, it just really sucks getting this old. And she said, because I still feel the same as I did when I was five inside, but my body's just not doing what I want it to do. And we said, you know what? But everybody has their turn. It's her turn to be old, and it's her turn for her body to break down. It's her turn to be in the last stage of her life. Then it'll be my turn. And that's what I said. It's just your turn. And eventually I'll be there. And eventually, eventually Katie will be there, and eventually we all will be there.
Bert
I will never.
Melissa
Except for Bird and all our children.
Bert
It's my turn for Bowtie.
Melissa
Yeah.
Bert
This is the Bird show.

All right, we have the retail rant line. Now it is open and it is ready to take your voicemail messages. And these are really, it's just a place for you guys to vent. If you're in retail, it's hard right now.
Melissa
You have to because you're going to get fired if if you say it to the customer. I mean, you worked ret, right, Wendy?
Michelle
Oh yeah. And you've been dealing with this since the day after Thanksgiving. So this has been long in coming. So now every little thing bothers you from every little piece of clothing someone throws on the floor or can't take it out of the dressing room or just pees in your dressing room. That's happened.
Bert
People pee in the dressing room?
Melissa
Yes.
Bert
Shut up.
Michelle
I am not. You see everything disgusting and you can't say anything about it. So I used to go into my stock room and just scream at the top of my line because everything would bother you. Just somebody saying, hey, can you help me get something down? No, I can't.

Look at me.
Princess
I'm 5 foot 2, 5 foot tall.
Development Producer
What makes me more qualified to get it than you?
Bert
The ladder's right there. Where did you work retail?
Michelle
I used to work at Kohl's. So then I had to have to go get the pole down and have to do this for a million people. So Someone see, get. Get one shirt down. They're like, I need this other shirt down. Meanwhile, their kids throwing everything on the hangers on the floor and you're just done.
Bert
Right. You need the phone number. Even though it's been five years.
Melissa
Definitely needed. It's like post war stress disorder.
Princess
Yeah.
Bert
404-255-3535. What is the. What is standard? Like when you bring five items into the dressing room with you and you're gonna buy two, but you're not gonna buy three, then are you supposed to bring those out and put them back yourself?
Princess
No.
Michelle
Well, you're supposed to bring them out on the hanger and hang them on the little thing right outside the dressing room. It's real convenient. You don't have to put it back where you found it. We'll do that.
Princess
That.
Michelle
Just bring it outside so we don't have to hang it back up on the hanger.
Melissa
Katie and I argument.
Princess
Yeah.
Melissa
Because I usually take it out, but she's like, I'll leave it in here. It's fine.
Bert
I leave it in there because I just think that if I fold it or I put it back on the hanger, you're just gonna have to go back and do the work that I just did. Because I'm not gonna do it to Gap standard.
Melissa
I just always do like a yes pile and a no pile and then
Princess
give the no pile back to them.
Bert
Okay, so you do hand it over.
Princess
You did it very well, Jen.
Bert
Okay, well, these are current retail employees that are upset, unlike Wendy, who is a veter. If she would have just called, then she wouldn't be nearly as angry today.
Princess
Listen, people, if you're placing an order, I understand that, you know your grandma and your auntie and whatever is going on, but can you please keep it simple and keep it short, because I have other customers that are looking at me crazy in the face because you're going on about your life story when you're trying to place an order. I don't care about your life story. Just tell me what you need. Tell me what you need and get off the phone so I can take care of the rest of the customers. Okay? So seriously, I work at a department store in North Georgia and it happened on Saturday. I work in the home department, and there was a comforter that this couple wanted, and they wanted to give it as a present. So I have like five people in line. I'm the only one there right at that moment. And they come up to me and they throw, pretty much throw the comforter up on the couch, how much is this? You know, I tell them how much it is, and then they argue that the sign is wrong. So I have to go check the sign. And the sign turns out that it was a correct, incorrect price. So I adjust the price. It was not a big deal. We always have to adjust the price of something that was wrong. And so from that point on, it was just hell. The next five, ten minutes that I was working with these people, we didn't have one of the pillows that they wanted, so they threw the other pillow at me and told me to keep it. And then the man looked at me and said, give me my receipt. So I said, okay, sir. And I handed him his receipt. And he said, you know what? You don't know how to do your job. Turn around and walked away. Now, like, what kind of person does that? I think it should be a rule that everybody should have to work retail at least once in their life.
Bert
I think it's funny, as she's calling, there's another one going in.
Melissa
Yeah.
Princess
Now, is that ours clicking or was that our signal?
Development Producer
Tell her.
Bert
I think it's funny that her very first vent was, I don't want to know your whole life story. Just get in and get out. And she's telling us her whole life story.
Princess
Isn't the normal response to a hello or a hi, how are you doing? The normal response is hello, not, I'm just looking. I don't go over your house and when you open the door, say, I'm just visiting. I say, hi, hey, I work in a pharmacy and it's just like, okay, if you have 10 prescriptions, do you really think I can have them done in five minutes? Really? Do you? And no, I don't have an attitude. You do. You getting all smart with me? It's not my fault that your thing is not covered. It's not my fault it costs this much. Not my fault. You need to calm down, take a deep breath, and stop tripping. Okay? Okay. What is up with people whistling at me like I'm a dog across the store? If you want my attention, please just come and ask me. Do not whistle at me or point at me and give me the come here motion. I am not a dog, I'm not an animal, and I'm not your best friend. So please quit yelling at me across the store, you dumb idiot. Get a life or go shop somewhere else. I don't need your customer complaint. Thank you.
Melissa
Whistling at them.
Princess
I would like to tell everybody to get their computers. We do not carry the stuff that is on the computers in our store. Order online. If it says that we don't have it online, then we don't have it on. We don't have it. Stop calling the store. Thank you.
Bert
So she's saying what, like online sales do not translate into in store sales?
Melissa
And there's times that I've gone online at different companies that are in Atlanta and online, it'll say online only or. And it will tell you online if it's available at your store or not. So I think she's saying you, you saw it went at our store and you called us anyway.
