Style Every Home the Birch show alright, so this right here is an email that we got a couple of days ago. And the first part of it I don't think is gonna be too shocking for you guys. It's the second part that's got me a little miffed. And I'm wondering if you guys in the Burch show community will just say she's she's comparing apples and oranges. There's she. She might be unhappy, but it's for a reason other than the one that she thinks it is.
Melissa
Okay?
Bird Show Host
Okay, says Dear Bircho, I have a question for all the ladies in atl. Is there anyone that is married but not in love with their husbands?
Caller - Married Woman
All right.
Bird Show Host
Phone lines will light up on that one for sure.
Caller - Listener Woman
Right?
Bird Show Host
That's unfortunate. I'm pretty sure there are a lot of couples out there in this situation. The reason I ask is because I've been married for over five years and I love my husband. He's a great guy and I would never change him for anybody. But I'm just here it is not in love with him like I was the first time I felt in love with my first boyfriend.
Caller - Listener Woman
Oops.
Jeff
Oh honey.
Caller - Male
So she's retrying to capture the 10th grade.
Jeff
That's.
Bird Show Host
I guess that's what she's getting at here. Just a couple more lines. What scares me is that I will never fall in love like I did back then.
Jeff
Oh no.
Bird Show Host
Is this normal? Question question question mark does this happen to other women or men? 404-741-Q100 well, what I think is normal
Jen
is to look back on your teenage years or your high school years or whatever years it was when she had her first boyfriend with rose colored glasses. You know, everything was better back then because you're looking back on it. And I think also because you've got like so much, I don't know, emotion and hormones and all that stuff when you're younger that I think it makes it more dramatic and seem more passionate or, you know, deeper love that you experience then because you're a teenager and your hormones are all over the place
Jeff
and coupling that with the fact you can't see each other all the time. So as teenagers, you're sneaking around, you, you don't, you know, you're not living together. You can't live together. You see each other in class, you see each other. You don't have to clean up each other's lawns. Yeah, Dutch ovens don't exist, you know, except with your siblings. And anyway, so you made a bet
Bird Show Host
with somebody nine years ago that you'd get a dollar for every time you said Dutch oven.
Jeff
You know, whatever. So. So, yeah, but I think that, yeah, it is def comparing apples to oranges.
Caller - Married Woman
Yeah.
Bird Show Host
And it's not like to me, and I'm sorry, high school students, that's not even the real world yet, man. That's not even the real world. That's like your hormones are so different. You got love and you've got hate and that, that fire that burns in high school is so different.
Jen
I think it's real love though, for the top.
Bird Show Host
For a 17 year old, it's a real 16 year old love. But when you look back at it, that's not love.
Jeff
That's like it's real love or not
Bird Show Host
it's not real love.
Jen
I think it is when you fall in love anytime, I think it's real love. But I don't think that she can compare that looking back on it to what she has with her husband now. Does that make any sense?
Bird Show Host
So what are you saying, like the definition of love changes with your age? Because Certainly love at 25 or 35 years old is way different than love at 15 years old.
Jen
It's definitely different. But I wouldn't say that teenage love isn't love.
Bird Show Host
I would say that it's not love.
Jen
Really?
Melissa
What would it be?
Jen
I think, I mean, like my high school boyfriend, I think I really loved him.
Bird Show Host
Yeah, I agree with you.
Jen
I think it's real love, but I just think it's different when you're older. It's a different, it's a Different, maybe form of it, but I would still, I wouldn't say it's not real.
Bird Show Host
I think it's strong emotions, but I don't think it's love.
Jen
Now people are gonna fight me. More on my comment about Justin Bieber than your comment about that.
Bird Show Host
Here is Wendy. Good morning, Wendy, you're on Q100.
Caller - Listener Female
Good morning.
Caller - Listener Woman
I love the bird show.
Bird Show Host
Thank you.
Caller - Listener Woman
Yeah, I was married for about three years to my ex husband and I'm still madly in love with him. But I'm remarried, but the love is just not the same. I mean, I love my husband. I'm not in love with him.
Jen
In love with your ex husband.
Caller - Male
Do you want to be on the voice disguiser?
Caller - Listener Woman
No, I don't care.
Jeff
It seems to me that when people say this, they are confused. Comparing it to something like two people are two completely different people. I will say that. I mean, loving more than one person in your life, which is what you do, they're different people. And it's going to be expressed differently. It's going to feel different. And I think by comparing to. And especially what Jen said, looking back on just the good times with somebody, I mean, you got to let that go.
Bird Show Host
Someone is going to have to explain to me as a guy that phrase, Wendy, that you love them, but you're just not in love with them. Call her Wendy. Because as a guy, I've never understood that. It always has sounded like an excuse to me.
Caller - Listener Woman
It's really not an excuse, though, because with my husband, he is so great and the total opposite from my ex husband. But there's just things that's missing in our relationship. I mean, it's not exciting anymore and I don't want to leave him, but
Jeff
just not in love with him.
Bird Show Host
I mean, it sounds like you're bored, but you still. But you have more feelings, stronger feelings for your ex husband than you do your current.
Caller - Listener Woman
Yeah. And it ended bad.
Jen
And what?
Caller - Listener Woman
It didn't end good. We. I mean, we didn't have a good divorce.
Jen
Who does, honey?
Bird Show Host
Yeah.
Jen
Right. Who does, honey?
Jeff
I just.
Jen
Yeah.
Jeff
That would break my heart if I was with somebody that said that. You know what I mean?
Bird Show Host
Oh, yeah.
Jeff
Then why are you with them?
Bird Show Host
That's the end of the relationship. If I'm listening to that. Hey, Kathy.
Caller - Married Woman
Hey. Good morning.
Bird Show Host
Good morning. You're on the voice disguiser. So we get this email from a virtual listener that says that she has been married to her husband for five years. She says she's not in love with him anymore. And she knows that because she had stronger feelings for her first boyfriend than she does her current husband. And this first boyfriend was years ago.
Caller - Married Woman
Yeah, I know that feeling. I'm in the same situation.
Melissa
What's going on?
Caller - Married Woman
I've been married to my husband for nine and a half years and we have three children together. He's a great guy, but, you know, put behind everything else in the life, in his life. And, you know, started, you know, talking with friends of mine, male friends, who are, you know, friends of both of ours. And, yeah, I have feelings, very strong feelings for an old boyfriend. However, when I told my husband I was not in love with him, but I did love him because he was the father of my children and because he put me behind everything else. He was. You know what? I gotta fix this. It's not worth losing you because I've put myself first. So it does happen.
Jen
But was he able to turn it around? Were you guys able to turn it around?
Caller - Married Woman
It's a work in progress. We are work. He is working on it. I'm working on it too, because, I mean, it does take two to goof up a marriage, not just one. I'm not perfect by any means. It's working. But, you know, there's always. Well, what if.
Bird Show Host
It's always been my experience with women that once you fall out of love that it's really tough to turn that switch back on.
Melissa
That's what I was gonna ask her.
Jeff
Well, I just also. And I brought up the word bored earlier or frustrated or overwhelmed, because I do think there are some women that misinterpret what they're feeling. I mean, I do think there are women that have totally fallen out of love with somebody. But I also think that there's some women that are frustrated, tired. You know, like she said, neglect feels neglected because an old boyfriend was not the father of your children. You may not have lived together. You may have been able to do fun stuff because you didn't have responsibilities. I just. I do find it sad that as people's lives progress that they don't enjoy what they've done. They don't enjoy the fact that they've had children with somebody. They don't enjoy because they let the fatigue and the busyness of it, you know, kind of water down the emotions for each other.
Bird Show Host
You don't agree, Jen?
Jen
I think it's different for every couple, I think, because each individual is so unique and so different. I think it's so different for each and every couple that get to a stage like that. I think some women could be exactly What Melissa said, just like, tired and caught up in the day to day and sort of lose that emotion. But I think also people can get so far apart from each other that there is no way to get back.
Bird Show Host
But if you're comparing it always to the first boyfriend or the first girlfriend and you think that you're going to keep that. That flame going for 10 years with your current husband, I think that's just a mirage.
Jeff
And the funny thing is, I look back at teenage romance and I find it kind of silly compared to what I'm doing. Not that I'm not diminishing it.
Caller - Male
I'm not diminishing it, but I'm saying
Jeff
that the people that I was with back then would say the same thing about me.
Bird Show Host
I think that's the point I was trying to make when Jen said that love back at 16 years old is the same now as an adult. To me, it seems that love seems like a silly life.
Jeff
It was fun and it was spontaneous and it was cool, and it was something we did because we were bored in Columbia, Tennessee, and, you know, all these things. But I'm sure, you know, if I went to them and saw their life now, it's far more. Well, you know, the feelings I have for who they're with now is far deeper than they ever were for me.
Jen
What I disagreed with you on is you said teenage love wasn't real love, and that's why I disagree with you. I thought it was real love. I think it is real love. It's a different form of it, and it's at a different time of life, of course, but I think teenagers that are in love are really in love.
Caller - Male
It might be a shallower version of the love that you have when you're in your 20s and then 30s and then for your kids and then whatever, but it's.
Jen
But to me, I don't think you can say it's not real love.
Bird Show Host
Here's Julie. Good morning, Julie. You are on the Burt Show.
Caller - Listener Woman
Good morning. Hi. So, okay. My first love and I broke up over 12 years ago. And we broke up for valid reasons. I was 19 and all of that. But I still love him and I'll never forget him. But your first love is your first love for a reason. It's always going to be the most, in my opinion, the most powerful. I've never loved anybody as much as I've. I've loved my first love.
Caller - Eastaco
Really?
Jen
Wow.
Caller - Listener Woman
You know, I mean, he. He was my first for. For everything.
Jeff
I mean, I understand that he's very important in your life, but nobody, it seems to me, for some people, nobody else has a chance.
Caller - Listener Woman
Basically, my philosophy is now. I mean, I'm 30 and I'm still single. But what. The guys that I'm meeting, all the good guys are either taken or they're gay. There's really just not any. Not the ones that I've met. There's just not really any good guys out there. And my first love and I. I mean, we broke up for valid reasons. It would have never worked, but, you know, still, he was my first love for a reason. And it's. I mean, it. I'm sure I'll fall in love one day. But, I mean, he will always hold a special place in my heart because he was my first love.
Bird Show Host
People have really, really strong feelings about this. We gotta come back and talk more about this.
Jen
I think we should.
Bird Show Host
I didn't know that it would start such a firestorm of calls, but people are very passionate about this. We. We read an email that we got a couple of days ago from a Berkshire listener. Says that she's been married for five years now. She loves her husband, but she's not in love with her husband. And she knows what love feels like based on her very first boyfriend. And the husband's love doesn't seem to stack up to that.

The Bird Show. All right, Mandy wants in on this whole conversation. Can you compare your current love with the love of your very first boyfriend or girlfriend? Good morning, Mandy. You're on Q100.
Caller - Listener Woman
Hi. I just called because I get so frustrated when I hear this stuff. I love him, but I'm not in love with him anymore. I'm currently divorced from my high school sweetheart and the father of my children because I felt the same way. I wasn't. I loved him, but I wasn't in love with him anymore. And I live with the regret every day of taking him for granted and treating him the way that I did and pushing him away because I didn't think I was in love anymore.
Caller - Listener Female
And it just.
Caller - Listener Woman
It drives Me crazy. Melissa's right. It's bored and the excitement's not there anymore. And after a couple of years, that every relationship and it's on you to make things exciting and to bring that spark back. I'd give anything to redo the mistakes I made and it just, it drives me insane.
Bird Show Host
So what's the definition of being in love and not in love then? I'm in love. I just don't love you. What's the definition there?
Caller - Listener Woman
I'm with you, Bird. I think it's an excuse you have that when you first meet somebody, you have that tingling and excitement and you do everything you can to make each other feel special and everything else. And I think after a few years you quit doing that and so you lose that excitement and you don't feel special anymore and you look for that somewhere else when you should be looking for it inside your marriage. And I would, like I said, she'll regret if he's a great man like she said, and she just doesn't feel like she's in love anymore. She'll regret what she's doing. Just appreciate your husband, love him, and bring the excitement back.
Caller - Male
Especially once she goes to her 10 year high school reunion and sees that the guy that she thinks she's in love with is 70 pounds heavier.
Melissa
Wow.
Jeff
You didn't look like that in high school, right?
Bird Show Host
Here's Ruth.
Caller - Male
Good morning, ruth.
Bird Show Host
You're on Q100.
Caller - Listener Female
Hi. Hey, bird show.
Caller - Listener Woman
Love you guys.
Bird Show Host
Thank you.
Caller - Listener Woman
So I totally think it's normal to be married and not be in love, but you have to work at that, you know, and as far as, you know, comparing it to your first love, though those feelings may have been genuine, it's different. I mean, you're married now. You, you stop trying to impress each other as much as you did before when you were had your boyfriend. But I've been married 27 years and we've had our moments where just hearing him breathe would annoy, you know, when you just get that annoyed and I'm thinking, I really just don't even like you anymore. But we talk about it, you know, and you're honest with each other and say, I need you to woo me. I need, I want to kiss you and be turned on. You have to talk through it, push through it. It is normal.
Bird Show Host
See, that's why that kind of love to me is like a real love that you have to push through. And like 16 and 17 year old
Melissa
love, that's just not real, just a difference in maturity.
Jen
I think that's cool that they talk about it.
Bird Show Host
What are you smirking like?
Jen
I'm just laughing at her saying, like, her he was just breathing and just driving me crazy.
Caller - Male
How do you talk about that? I don't know.
Jen
I tell someone that I just think that's cool that, I mean, They've been married 27 years. They talk about it. Your breathing is driving me nuts right now. And could you please chew with your mouth closed?
Bird Show Host
This is the email that we got, and it says, I have a question for all the ladies listening. Is there anyone that's married but not in love with their husbands? I'm pretty sure there are a lot of couples out there in this situation. The reason I ask is because I've been married for over five years and I love my husband. He's a great guy and would never change him for anybody, but I'm just not in love with him. And this is the key one right here. Like, I was the first time I felt in love with my first boyfriend. So we're asking, is that even fair to do? Here is Stacy. Good Morning. You're on Q100.
Caller - Listener Female
Hey, I just wanted to let you guys know that I love your show and a little confused because I can get through now, but not when I
Caller - Listener Woman
want to win $1,000.
Caller - Male
But are you in love with our show or do you just love our show?
Caller - Listener Female
I love your show.
Jeff
If you were in love, you would
Jen
have won that thousand.
Jeff
But anyway, go ahead.
Caller - Listener Female
The only thing I'm in love with is my husband. And I think that the first true love ordeal is just a bunch of psycho babble for women who think that they're still in love with their first boyfriend because they realize what they had and they let it go and somebody else came along and took him. And I'm just speaking from experience because I'm married to my husband and my. His ex girlfriend and I got into an argument and a fight, and she's already married to somebody else. And she just came up to me when I first met her and said, I'm his first true love, and I hold a spot in his heart that you will never feel. And I think that's just ridiculous.
Sleep Number Announcer 2
Damn.
Bird Show Host
See, to me, like, you're. They're almost different things. Your first love and your first true love. To me, I don't know. I feel like there's a difference there.
Jeff
I mean, you know, when you're in high school, there's also there. I mean, it could just be a case. There's more effort. I mean, again, you don't see each other all the time. And it's the first time you're gonna kiss. It's the first time you're gonna. You know, whatever. It's the first time you're gonna get flowers. It may be the first time you get all these little romantic things that. Cause everybody's trying out their dating skills when they're in high school, and it's cute. And then I do think it. I do find it so sad that when people finally get with somebody as an adult that they chose to be with, that they're with them.
Caller - Listener Woman
Far.
Jeff
The time spent with the person you're with as an adult is far more. Is far greater than it was with the time you spent when you were a teenager with somebody. And so, yes, there's gonna be times where you're bored. There's times where you're just gonna sit on the couch. There's times it's not gonna be flowers and romance and kissing to where the sparks fly all the time.
Caller - Eastaco
And.
Jeff
And I. But I don't think that's a bad thing. I think it's. I think it's a. It's a privilege to. To. For me, it's a privilege to be with Katie and to sit and be bored with her and to. For us to get on each other's nerves, because that's. To me, that's real. That's real life. You know, as well as when we're romancing each other and we're doing all these other things. It's not fake or this facade of something.
Bird Show Host
There was a couple of weeks ago, Stacy and I were sitting on the couch, and we were just watching who knows what show together. And I do this leg twitch thing that it's very hard for me just to sit still. So without even knowing it, I twitch my leg. And just from out of nowhere, Stacy's like, will you stop that?
Jen
She's annoyed.
Bird Show Host
See, that's 16 years of love that
Caller - Listener Woman
went into that segment right there. That's real.
Jen
I've seen my parents. I mean, my parents have been married 39 years. It was really neat at the wedding we went to over this. This past weekend. You know how they invite, like, all the married couples up onto the dance floor? Like, if you've been married, you know, one year, five years, 10 years, and they go all the way up. My parents were one of the last ones to join the dance floor at 39 years of marriage, but he never stopped flirting with my mom. And when I was a kid, I thought it was gross. I would be like, would you Quit doing that in front of us. Like, ew. But my dad's never, ever stopped doing, like, the romantic things all along the way. So I don't think they ever sort of let themselves fall out of love with each other because they always, you know, and I'm sure it. It ebbed and flowed through the years or whatever and. But he never stopped, like, grabbing her butt and, like, doing stuff like that.
Caller - Male
And then 39 years, she's got a really grabbable butt.
Jeff
Jeff's even grabbing.
Jen
Don't you even come close to talking about my mom's rub?
Caller - Male
Does he ever do the two hand? Cause she's got a good two hander.
Bird Show Host
That same experience happened to me at the prom when I thought I had true love. The DJ said, look, for all you that have been in love for two weeks, come out on the dance floor. And then it was four weeks and then it was six. Just got to be kind of a lonely dance.
Caller - Male
I think we all need to forgive Jen right now for saying that true love can be found in high school.
Jen
Oh.
Bird Show Host
What?
Caller - Male
You'll get it in a minute.
Jen
That's where I found it.
Bird Show Host
I don't think I get it.
Caller - Male
You will in a minute.
Bird Show Host
Okay. The Bird Show

the Birch Show. All right, let's talk proms here for a second. I think there is a deeper problem than just the proms because new stats are showing now that if you're in high school and you want to get in on this. 404-741-Q100. Stats are showing that if you're in high school, like your age is 13 to 17 or whatever, that if you get a invitation to go to prom via text, you probably say yes. Wouldn't bother you at all. And they're even giving you suggestions. Eight tips for asking a date to prom over text. Come on, Come on.
Melissa
Disagree.
Bird Show Host
All right, let's go through these one at a time real quick and then we'll talk about the bigger problem here. Because I think Wendy, as somebody that's younger than us, may have A totally different take on it. Be sure to personalize your text when you ask.
Caller - Listener Woman
Come on.
Jeff
Wow.
Bird Show Host
You don't want to see Big advice.
Jeff
Common sense won't tell you to do that. Okay.
Jen
But you don't want it to look like it's a mass text that could have been sent to three or four
Bird Show Host
people, which, if I was in high school would seem like a brilliant idea. However, I'm not, so it's not. Right.
Jen
Like, if you ask three of them say yes.
Bird Show Host
Well, then you got another. Well, then it's not really a problem because you never have to see them face to face. You can always text them back, say,
Caller - Male
sorry, you responded too slow. It becomes like a radio contest. No, I'm sorry, we already gave away the thousand dollars. But Try again at 8:15. Try again in my senior year.
Bird Show Host
Remember, this is the prom we're talking about here. This is like one of the biggest nights of your life up until this point here. Skip the text shortcuts, type out full spell checks, spell checked words for this one is the advice.
Jeff
Are you kidding me?
Bird Show Host
Totally serious.
Jen
So instead of. It would be gr. The number eight. If you went to prom with me, you should really spell it out.
Bird Show Host
Spell it out because this is a very important event. Okay. If you are texting to be asked to the prom, ask a witty friend to help you wordsmith it. So not only are they saying that texting is a proper way to go, that that's not easy enough. They say, get a friend now to help you with the wording on it so you don't mess it up.
Melissa
It's like a letter. You want it to be just right.
Caller - Male
Says get 160 characters right?
Melissa
Absolutely.
Caller - Male
Can you scroll over? Is the same thing, Bert, about scrolling over texting? Because I feel the same way about that as tweeting. If you can't fit it in one text message and it has to say, hey, Wendy, I was wondering if you would like to go to senior prom with me. I have a limo and I have already rented my tuxedo. And I'm also going with Superman and. Jen, do you want to go with me? That right there is a no.
Melissa
Well, if you have an iPhone, you can send as long of a text message as you want. Like, there's no stopping and starting.
Caller - Male
Not if you're sending it to somebody who doesn't have an iPhone.
Melissa
Well, that's what I'm saying. So good night.
Bird Show Host
So the world should go on iPhone. Get creative with your cell phone camera. I know a lot of you high school students have Done that, and it's gotten you in trouble. And also, if you're asked out over text, be sure to respond within a few hours. Okay, so that is the standard now to which if you're going to accept or you're going to ask for prom over text, that's your standard. Check out these stats. So 40% of teens between 13 and 17 say they'd consider asking their date to prom via text, and 64% say they'd accept the invitation by text.
Jen
Because it's just so normal. It's just regular language now. It's sort of just the mode of communication. And I don't think that it carries the same weight that we put on it, the same meaning that we put on it that it does for teenagers, because they've always had it. They've always come up with it. I mean, think about it. I didn't have a cell phone until I was in college. And I mean, they've had cell phones since they were 10 or 9 or even younger than that. Like their parents are giving them cell phones. So this texting mode of communication doesn't have a diminished value like we put a diminished value on it. Even though I still believe that it's not the right way to go and it's not proper and it's not, you know, it's not being a gentleman to ask your date to prom via text message doesn't have that same meaning if you're younger as it does to us. So, I mean, yes, I get it, why they're doing it, but I still disagree with it.
Bird Show Host
Okay, I agree. I agree with what you're saying about the age thing and how I agree with that, but here's where I disagree, is that you're starting to set the bar so low for dudes that when they get older, you won't be able to reverse this.
Jeff
Exactly. That's where I come from, is that you cannot complain as an adult woman about how guys aren't romantic enough. They're not being a gentleman, because Jen used the word gentleman. They're not being a gentleman. They don't do this. They do. Because you know what? Your wedding proposal is going to end up being an untext message. I mean, seriously, you can't all of
Caller - Male
a sudden think, melissa Carter, will you marry Eftler?
Jeff
Save that.
Jen
But you can't expect me out on Twitter.
Jeff
Really?
Jen
Yeah.
Bird Show Host
Would you ever even consider it?
Jen
I mean, we talked back and forth. We never did go out.
Caller - Male
But it was direct via direct message.
Jeff
Yeah, but if you're cool with that, that's fine on Twitter, but I think a lot of time and like. Cause when you said that you don't disagree with this. I just know that there's a lot of times you're like, you know, guys are jerks and guys are this and guys don't step up and they're not like old fashioned gentlemen kind of guys. And it's like old fashioned gentlemen kind of guys aren't going to ask you to prom in a text message.
Melissa
I don't think they would ever do it to ask you to marry them though. Even if they asked you to promote.
Jeff
Why would it change? Why would it change in 10 years?
Melissa
No one's ever done that before.
Bird Show Host
Years ago you'd have said nobody would have. Four, you would have never asked to go to prom via text.
Melissa
But that's okay. I mean those are teenagers. You're not getting asked to prom when you an adult.
Bird Show Host
But that's when you're supposed to start to learn how to man up is when you're.
Jen
And I think too that like they don't have the excuse, especially if they want to ask a girl who goes to their school because you know you're gonna see her, you're either gonna see her before school, after school, in the cafeteria, like at some point during the day you have a class with her or something. There's a chance to have that face to face meeting if you go to a separate school and maybe there's not enough time to see her in person. Calling on the phone and actually having a real conversation I think would be second best, you know, but you don't really have the excuse about texting if you're gonna see her at school.
Jeff
But you just said that when they get older, all of a sudden they're gonna.
Wayfair Announcer
Yeah.
Melissa
Cause it's just high school.
Jeff
How is that gonna. How all of a sudden are they gonna learn?
Melissa
Age. I think it just comes with age.
Bird Show Host
Here's Eastaco. Good Morning. You're on Q100.
Caller - Eastaco
Hi. I wanted to say that sometimes it gives kids sort of a chance because not all these kids have. High school was supposed to be the best time for the most part of these kids lives when you have like, let's say a nerd that doesn't really have any girlfriends, maybe not even that many friends. He used the opportunity of texting instead of going in in person. It sort of brings his kids out to shine, so to speak. And it lets them get a chance at some of the bigger goals. Let's say for them that they want to have by the end of their high school career.
Bird Show Host
Eastigo. I think that's a great, great point, but here's my point to that, is that at some point, those quote unquote nerds that you're talking about are gonna have to learn to take rejection face to face. They're gonna have to learn to be brave enough to go up to a girl and ask her out. And there's no better time than to learn that lesson than right now. So you're just putting off what you're gonna have to do in a couple of years.
Melissa
I would have preferred to text back in high school if we had phones back in, like, text. Cell phones are popular back in high school. But now, I mean, I can go out and ask somebody out, whereas in high school, I would have been too shy or timid. So that would have been a perfect way for me to do it in high school. But now I'm not gonna sit here and text somebody to go out with me. I can go to, like, a bar and ask somebody.
Caller - Male
Wendy, we all know that no matter how somebody asks you out, you're saying yes right now. They could. The window washer could write in the dirt on the window.
Melissa
It's true.
Caller - Male
And get your name wrong.
Melissa
Oh, very true.
Bird Show Host
Hey, Julie. Good morning. You're on the Burt Show.
Caller - Listener Woman
Hello.
Bird Show Host
Hello.
Caller - Male
Hello.
Caller - Listener Woman
Hi.
Bird Show Host
Hi, Julie.
Caller - Listener Female
I'm just saying that in today's society, like, in my school, if you don't accept a text message, you know, prom
Caller - Listener Woman
offer, you're not gonna go to prom.
Bird Show Host
But, Julie, what if you get that, that. That offer and you text back, why don't you call me? Or why don't you see me when we both get to school tomorrow?
Caller - Listener Woman
Well, here's the thing.
Caller - Listener Female
Boys are just gonna move on to the next one. They're just gonna be like, oh, okay, well, this one's just a little too hard to get. So I. The next one. Because there are girls that will say yes in a second and show all their friends, like my friends do, and think it's the most romantic thing in the world.
Bird Show Host
Melissa, do you want to address that? Because I think you go first. I think you raised a great point.
Jeff
You go first.
Bird Show Host
See, and here's where it all starts right here. Julius, See, here's what I'm hearing you say is, like, you're already acting from a place of desperation. Like, if I don't take this one, then no one else is going to come along. And dudes sense that. And I see girls turning into women with the same attitude when they're Older.
Caller - Listener Woman
Yeah, I agree.
Caller - Listener Female
Like, this year I got a couple of actually text message offers, which is funny how you brought that up today. And I said no, because, you know, I'm sadly one of those romantic girls that would like to have a pizza written with prom and a question mark delivered to my door in pepperonis rather than a text message.
Jen
That's cute.
Jeff
That's not sad.
Caller - Listener Female
I didn't go to prom this year.
Bird Show Host
So you're saying you raised the bar and you sat home?
Caller - Listener Female
Mm, I did.
Caller - Male
That sucks you didn't get your pizza.
Caller - Listener Female
I know, right?
Bird Show Host
Jeff's way more concerned about the pizza. But I still think. I mean, I think internally this is all, like, adult stuff, but you set the bar high and all.
Jeff
Well, talk to the guys.
Bird Show Host
I like that.
Jeff
Yeah. And I think that, you know, and I always talk about. Yeah, I don't. The thing that always makes me uncomfortable sometimes in conversations, that all the burden is on the women to make the men do a certain thing. And I understand that women are a huge motivation for men. But it's like, I want to hear you talk to the guys and say, guys, what are you doing?
Bird Show Host
You're gonna have to. I think we all like to stay away from uncomfortable situations. It's way easier to flee than it is to fight. But at some point, and I know I sound like an old dude talking about this stuff, but at some point, you have got to get the skillset, the tools to be able to walk up to somebody and tell them what you want and not be intimidated. And the longer you put that off, the longer, the harder it's gonna get.
Jeff
And, dudes, listen. I mean, your competition, you have none. If all guys are texting and all guys aren't putting up the effort, if you're the guy that puts up the effort, you are guaranteed to get reaction. You know what I'm saying? Because no other guy's doing it.
Caller - Male
Oh, my God. Can you believe Bert asked me out in person? Like, I had to reject him right to his face.
Bird Show Host
And Jeff will tell you this. Jeff will tell you this. The more you get rejected, I mean. Cause he's been rejected time again and again.
Jen
Even when you get married, it gets easier.
Bird Show Host
Hey, Theresa. Good Morning. You're on Q100.
Caller - Listener Woman
Hey.
Caller - Listener Female
Okay, so I completely agree with you guys. This is ridiculous. I got asked out over text messages, and I completely turned them down. I think it's ridiculous that they don't have the guts to come up to your face. Like, nowadays, girls are accepting it and they're, like, freaking out.
Caller - Listener Woman
Oh, my Gosh, they asked me over
Caller - Listener Female
promotion to go to prom over a text. I'm like, that's one of the best times in your life. Why would you want to be asked out over a text message? And like you said, how they're not going to have the guts to do it in the future. You know, you have to grow up and be able to do it when you get older. Are you seriously going to be freaked out every time to go ask a girl to prom? I think it's ridiculous.
Bird Show Host
Amen.
Caller - Married Woman
No.
Jen
Good for you.
Caller - Listener Female
I don't think it's romantic at all.
Bird Show Host
Amen, girl.
Jeff
And I do think that. Yeah, I would love to talk to somebody who got proposed to via text because that's what's coming. It's not going to change just because the guy. Because graduation does not all of a sudden make a man. You know what I'm saying? It just. It just doesn't. He's not going to step up all of a sudden because he graduates.
Caller - Male
I love the fact that we're talking about the romanticism of a night where people more often than not end up with their pants off in the back of a rented limo.
Jeff
I'm sorry, Jeff.
Caller - Male
End up with their rented pants off in the back of a rented limo. What?
Jeff
It's before 8:30.
Caller - Married Woman
Did.
Bird Show Host
Well, I'm saying anybody listening right now is way ahead of that conversation.
Jeff
I know, but the parents are also listening to.
Caller - Eastaco
Come on.
Bird Show Host
I got this email yesterday after. Before we even started talking about this, and it says, this is from Julie. Heard the news story about boys asking a girl to prom via text and had to tell you about my son. He's 15 and he has never asked a girl out. He worked up his courage and he asked a girl to prom this year in person. She had said yes. And then two weeks later later she text him and told him her parents wouldn't let her go with him, even as a friend. So he got dumped via text.
Jeff
See, that's stupid too.
Bird Show Host
Can't do that.
Jeff
She's at fault for that.
Melissa
She's.
Jeff
That's not cool at all.
Jen
Talk to him in person.
Bird Show Host
Those are personal, personal conversations, man. You got to do it face to face.
Jeff
Wimp.
Bird Show Host
Wimp.
Sleep Number Announcer 2
Change the bar, girl.
Jeff
Texting is a form of wimpiness.
Bird Show Host
Group dates either.
Melissa
I would never do another one. Yeah, I would never do a group date.
Caller - Male
Take what you can get, Wendy. Just get out there and date.
Melissa
I know. Someone just send me a text and ask me out.
Jen
I'll take it.
Jeff
Somebody ask her to prom via text, please. I'll say yes.
Caller - Male
Hey.

The third show, Jen Hobby. What is the celebrity incarceration draft?
Jen
Basically, this is where we try to predict the next celebrity who is going to be arrested. And each and every time, we each pick a player for that round. And if that's the person that we choose who gets arrested next, then we win the entire pot of money. We put in about five bucks every single time. So this one's been going for a while. Now the pot of money is over 500 bucks.
Caller - Male
Over 500? You mean 250. You are right.
Bird Show Host
You told us 500 last time.
Caller - Male
I was. I'm terrible at math.
Jen
Oh, okay. Well, we're not that high up yet, but we've been doing round after round of this thing. We're all in it for the money, and we try to predict which celebrity is going to get arrested next. So we all have our little lineups, and then today we're going to do it again because of Warrant singer. You remember this song?
Bird Show Host
This is a round that barely fits under the category of you would have, right?
Jen
Because I think I got to play the song.
Jeff
But you know the song, right?
Bird Show Host
Because I think our rule has always been if you heard his name, you'd instantly know who he was where. I don't think you have that here. But you do have the song, right?
Jen
Yeah. So he's the lead singer of Warrant. Got busted for dui, actually by the exact same cop in Los Angeles who busted him last year for dui. Now, I wonder if that's exact same police officer.
Bird Show Host
Was it on the same street? Because I wonder if that's just that police officer's probably same neighborhood.
Jen
But I don't. I don't know if it's the exact same street.
Jeff
The first words that cup says, well, well, well, here we are.
Bird Show Host
Here we go again. All right. The order in which we will pick we have been drawn at is Wendy, Melissa Burke, Jeff, and Jen.
Jen
Okay.
Melissa
All right.
Bird Show Host
Wendy.
Melissa
Yes.
Jeff
Because we're competitive.
Melissa
Well, Gossip Girl, people will know who this girl is. Her name is Taylor Momson. And she's the 16, 17 year old girl. And she was better known as one of the little who girls in the how the Grinch Stole Christmas, the one with Jim Carrey. But she has got a potty mouth on her and she is just growing up being a bad girl. So she has been all over the tabloids lately. So I go with Taylor Momson.
Bird Show Host
Okay.
Caller - Male
Is it Momson or Monson Momsen?
Melissa
M O M. Got it.
Jen
Momson.
Bird Show Host
Melissa, your pick this round.
Jen
I.
Jeff
Because of this story, he wrecked into a parked car. Is that what you said, Jen? Is that how?
Caller - Listener Female
Is that how?
Jen
Yes. Okay.
Jeff
This reminded me of somebody, another musician. I just wanted my arsenal in case he does this again. Is George Michael. Because remember he. Several times he's gotten drunk and rammed into parked cars.
Bird Show Host
There is always a bath house in his future.
Jeff
Well, they're not in his day, but a bathroom stall. It's him leaving the bathhouse that gets him in trouble.
Bird Show Host
Okay, so George Michael, has. Has Gary Coleman been chosen yet?
Caller - Male
No, I don't think so.
Bird Show Host
It's a good one because he always seems to be about seven or eight months. It's almost like he's got a quota he needs to fill every year to get busted once a year. I think it's been a while. So I'm gonna go with Gary Coleman.
Caller - Male
Sticking with the rock theme, you know, with Janny Lane getting arrested. I'm gonna go with Nikki Sixx, who is the bassist for Motley Crue.
Bird Show Host
Mm. Okay.
Jen
That's definitely a good one.
Caller - Male
Yeah. Yep. Because it's the rock person theme.
Bird Show Host
Okay, Jen.
Jen
All right. This one was suggested to me on Twitter last time, and I didn't pick it. And I think it's random enough that it would be good. But John Goodman.
Bird Show Host
John Goodman.
Jen
Mm.
Caller - Listener Female
Who's that?
Jen
He had lots of drinking problems at some point. Oh, yeah. It was a suggestion on Twitter. And I thought, you know, that's just random enough that it might work because
Bird Show Host
it's generally not the A listers that get busted.
Jen
Right.
Bird Show Host
They have too much protection around. Like Jay Z. He's never gonna get busted.
Jeff
He's not gonna get busted.
Bird Show Host
He's not gonna get busted. John Goodman.
Jen
Mike.
Bird Show Host
He's gonna get busted.
Jen
Maybe.
