The Birch show so we were talking about kids who have sold out the shady partner.
Melissa
Yeah, because we just talked to a listener who you know, was a little confused because she was wondering why some 7 year old niece 7 year old niece had mentioned something bad about the guy that she was seeing. And so we wanted to hear from more listeners who, whether it is a family member of yours or maybe is the person you're dating and it's their children who could pull you aside and say don't date my daddy or mommy. And we said that we wanted to hear from people who a kid less than 10 years old is the one that is informing you that you need
Jeff
to get out we're getting some cool calls from people who are actually the ones who told on, huh? Yeah. Like Victoria. Hey, Victoria. Welcome to the show.
Caller/Listener Female
Hi.
Jeff
How are you?
Melissa
Good morning.
Caller/Listener Female
I'm good. Just driving to work.
Jeff
What's going on?
Caller/Listener Female
Well, that was funny that y' all brought this up this morning, because I had that experience when I was 7. My mom started dating a guy that she'd met, and he was really sweet to her, did all the little sweet gestures for her, but he really, really didn't pay a lot of attention to me and my two brothers. And, I mean, I remember it, but she would even tell me now that I would say things like, no, I don't like him. Or when he'd come over, I'd leave, like, go somewhere else. And normally, as a child, I was real outgoing and talk to everybody, and so she thought I was odd, but she just figured I was just, you know, being a kid. And they ended up getting married, and I continued to express my. My dislike. And sure enough, about five years into their marriage, he became more and more aggressive, ended up hitting her and becoming an alcoholic, and she finally left him.
Whitney
Wow.
Melissa
So you had instinct. Well, we were teasing earlier about, you know, little kids with more, you know, of an instinctual reaction to things rather than, you know, really thinking about it. So you were right.
Caller/Listener Female
All the.
Jeff
Most of the calls that we're getting, like, four out of five of the ones on hold right now were all the kids who told.
Caller/Listener Female
Oh, boy.
Jeff
Hey, Ryan. Welcome to the show.
Caller/Listener Female
Hey, how are you?
Jeff
What's going on?
Caller/Listener Female
All right. So I was, like 8 or 9 years old, and my neighbor, she had a boyfriend, but I noticed this other guy would come around when her boyfriend went around. And it went on for a while. She was seeing both guys. So first I told the guy she'd been with longer, and then he told her, you know, that I told him, and he broke up with her. And then I told the other guy, too. So she ended up with nobody.
Bert
Oh, that's hilarious.
Jeff
When you're eight or nine years old, do you know. Do you know what you're doing? Like, are you aware that it's wrong, or is it just that?
Caller/Listener Female
No, I knew. Cause then she got in a fight with my mom about it because they said I shouldn't have said anything. And I stood up for myself, and I was like, well, she shouldn't have been seeing two different guys. That's not right.
Jeff
Do you remember how you told her or how you told the guy?
Caller/Listener Female
I remember I told the guy, yeah.
Jeff
Do you Remember how you told the
Caller/Listener Female
guy, I told him that there was another car. I described the car for him and I told him the other guy's name because I'd met him too.
Jessica
Wow, that's awesome. That's hysterical. How much older was she than you?
Caller/Listener Female
Oh, she was an adult. She was only in her 30s.
Jeff
That's great.
Jessica
She's never gonna speak to you again.
Jeff
Can you imagine?
Caller/Listener Female
It was a long time war between us after that.
Jeff
I'll bet. And can you imagine being the, you know, the guy, the recipient of that news from an eight year old.
Bert
I know.
Jeff
Excuse me, mister.
Caller/Listener Female
Mr. Yeah, I walked right over into the driveway when he pulled up one day.
Jack
I remember it.
Jessica
That's great.
Jack
Wow.
Jeff
Good for you.
Caller/Listener Female
Y' all have a good morning.
Melissa
You too. And I think, yeah, I would believe a kid, you know, because what, what are they, you know, why are they trying to manipulate me? Unless they really, you know, had seen it or knew about it as opposed to an adult.
Jeff
Well, the thing about kids is there's zero filter. There's no. They've got nothing. You know, if that kid's twice his age, if he's 16 or 17 years old or older, you have the realization, well, there's going to be consequences and she's going to be unhappy. And what if the guy gets really mad and breaks down her door and what?
Lady Luck
Blah, blah, blah.
Jeff
When you're eight years old, you've got no.
Melissa
But you know what, Jeff, you know, we don't have children, so, you know, they lie all the time.
Jeff
Hey, Kerry, welcome to the show.
Caller/Listener Female
Hey, guys, how are y'?
Jack
All?
Jeff
How are you?
Caller/Listener Female
Well, when I was in high school, I was dating a guy that my nephew, who was like five at the time, hated. Every time he would come to the house, he'd get like the wiffle ball bat and just hit the guy over and over again. And he let in my dog, who would bite the guy. Y' all were talking about the dogs, right? Children have an intuition. Both of mine hated this guy and he ended up sleeping with my best friend.
Melissa
You kept him around even after the wiffle ball bat and the dog incident.
Caller/Listener Female
I was like 16. I wasn't very smart at the time.
Jeff
I think the better statement is the guy stuck around after gotten beaten with a wiffle ball bat and bit by a dog when he came over to your house.
Caller/Listener Female
He apparently wasn't very smart at the time either.
Jeff
Hey, Tori, welcome to the bird show.
Whitney
Hi.
Caller/Listener Female
When I was 7, I told my mom she had met a new boyfriend. And I was like, I Don't like this dude. She ends up getting pregnant. Moving out. I was like, I'm not going. I'm staying with my grandmother. So I've lived with my grandmother ever since. I am now 16 years old with an 8 year old brother. We found out about a year ago when they separated, we found out that he's been cheating on my mom for eight years, which is right after I told her that I didn't like the.
Jeff
Has your mom acknowledged that you were right back then?
Caller/Listener Female
Yes.
Jeff
That's cool.
Jessica
Should have listened.
Jeff
I really like being right. Hey, even if it means the end of a marriage, right? Hey Iris, welcome to the bird show.
Caller/Listener Female
Hi.
Jeff
Hey. How are you?
Caller/Listener Female
Good.
Jeff
What's going on?
Whitney
Sorry.
Jeff
Wesa, what's going on?
Caller/Listener Female
When I was about six years old, my aunt started dating a guy. And amongst all of my female cousins, we all just got a very creepy, crawly feeling from him. And my mom used to try to get us to stay the night over at my aunt's place with him and I just absolutely refused. They ended up getting married and having kids. And about six years ago, I'm now 24, about six years ago, we found out that he actually molested both of his daughters.
Caller/Listener Male
Whoa.
Melissa
Oh, wow.
Caller/Listener Female
Yeah.
Jeff
And when you were six or seven years old, did you have any inkling that that was what was weird about him or did you just get a bad energy?
Caller/Listener Female
I just, we always felt that he too attentive to the cousins. Like, you know, he'd always want the cousins to come and sit on his lap and he'd always hug us or too attentive. And you know, I would always tell my mom, I don't want to stay with uncle, I don't want to stay with him. And my mom eventually started getting her own weird feeling about it and tried to talk to my aunt. They eventually moved away from Florida, away from the family because so many people had negative feelings about him. And about two years after they moved away, my aunt called all of us to tell us that my then 11 and 9, I believe my cousins were 11 and 9 year old cousins had finally told her. Actually I think she read their diary when they were out of school one day. Eventually she eventually found out that he had been molesting both of them. The oldest one had an engagement ring from him. It was, it was weird.
Melissa
Oh my God. Oh my God. What's just crazy creepy. Oh, well, yeah. Listen to the children. Yeah, that's the lesson learned. Listen to the kids. Oh, thanks for the call.
Caller/Listener Female
No problem.
Melissa
I think.
Jeff
Well, you know What? It's, it is what it is. It's, you know, it's the energy that the people give off for whatever reason. Kids.
Melissa
Yeah.
Jeff
See it on filter or whatever.
Melissa
Yeah.
Jeff
Hey, our last call will be A.J. what's going on?
Caller/Listener Female
Hey, I had a story about my two year old daughter. Was really leery about a business associate of mine, right. Came over to my house, brought gifts and everything. And she's really outgoing. She would, I mean, she would play with anybody, hug on anybody. But the second he walked in the door, she instantly, her mood changed, became a completely different person. And he ended up trying to screw me out of like a hundred thousand dollars.
Lady Luck
Wow.
Melissa
Knew it.
Caller/Listener Female
I'm gonna.
Jeff
You know what? I'm gonna have to get a kid just to have around and evaluate people that are near me.
Melissa
Wouldn't it be funny if there was like CEOs or people hiring managers that just brought children in to sit in on an interview and then asked him after the fact, what do you think about this person?
Jeff
Hey, if I'm that dude and my daughter saved me out of 100 grand, I totally would do that. Next time.

Jeff
We got to talk to Tracy for a couple minutes about an issue that she has with her baby girl, Ella, who I saw the twit pic you sent yesterday.
Melissa
I said, katie, look. She goes, aww.
Jeff
And Tracy brings up a very good point because both Tracy and her husband are very intense, but in kind of two opposite ways. And if these two. If both of these personality traits manifest themselves in little. Merge into one in Ella, Ella could actually become a little tiny monster.
Jessica
Yeah, we don't have this problem yet, and I'm really nervous about it because my husband has add, so he can't really focus on anything. He's very scattered. He takes medication for it, which helps a lot, but without the medication, he's just all over the place. I, on the other hand, have been known to have a few OCD type tendencies.
Melissa
A few. I'm sorry, excuse me.
Jeff
Tracy is the producer of this show because she is beyond organized.
Melissa
Right.
Jeff
And I've actually. She has like, one of her OCD things is like, she has to write stuff down, even if it doesn't involve her or have anything to do. Like, she puts it on a list in a book somewhere. I've had to yell at her before.
Jessica
Jeff is like, I'm gonna go to the kitchen to the vending machine. And I'm writing down kitchen, vending machine on a notepad. But one of your favorite stores is the Container Store.
Jeff
Yes, that's true.
Jessica
Yes. And I'm so uber organized. But I also get very obsessed with everything being perfect. So my fear is if she gets his ADD and my ocd, oh, my gosh. She's gonna be obsessed with Being perfect but not be able to focus long enough to make it happen. And she's gonna go crazy.
Melissa
Let me ask a question now. Which would you. Because we talked about off here for a second and I said that with children it's either you mimic your parents or sometimes you go opposite of your parents. Like you decide that you're gonna rebel against that type of behavior. So which would you rather have Ella to be? OCD and perfectionist or would you rather her be A in reaction to you and Scott?
Jeff
Or the exact opposite? What if she doesn't have add? What if she's super focused but she decides to be super focused on being messy? You would have to give her away.
Melissa
You'd have to put your child on a sloppy room. She spills things, she doesn't care. She argues with you. I mean, you know about it.
Caller/Listener Female
I think mommy will wait on her hand and foot and clean up after
Jeff
her because you have OCD about cleanliness
Jessica
and nothing's gonna be clean enough for me. I understand that. I don't know what I'd rather her have because it's. I mean, it's frustrating for both of us. Like, while I love everything to be perfect and orderly, it drives me crazy that I'm like that. I'm just not willing to stop being like that because then that would mean nothing is orderly.
Jeff
So the question this made me think about is there, there has to be parents. And our Phone number is 404-741-Q100. Who you are aware of something that you do. Like everybody says, oh my God, I sound just like my mother. You know, at some point, or father or whatever, you have got to have something in your life, something that you do. Whether it's an OCD tendency that your laundry has to be folded in the exact certain way, or an ADD thing where you start 100 projects and you can't finish them, or anything in between that something that you do that you are so hard trying to prevent from being passed down to your child or
Melissa
even a short temper, or even sarcasm or cursing. Cursing, I think is a common thing with parents. But you know, I would think that, yeah, any behavior that you are self conscious about that you don't want your child to inherit, what are you keeping from him or trying to at least, or can you?
Jeff
Like I am a bad, I would say husband to Jessica, but I think I'm just a bad roommate because I have a tendency to think that just because an article of clothing is folded somewhat neat, then that is put away enough. Even if it's on the arm of a couch or the edge of a bed.
Caller/Listener Female
That drives me crazy.
Jeff
So, like, I'll come home and I'll take like, you know, I'll take the shirt off and I'll just fold it in half, but I'll put it on the edge of the bed. In my mind, it's away. It's away, it's folded in half and it's on the edge of the bed. Right, Right. So knowing how crazy that drives Jessica, if we had children in our house, I would try not to do that. I would try to avoid that. Hey, Julia. Welcome to the bird show.
Caller/Listener Female
Hi.
Whitney
Hey.
Jeff
What's going on?
Caller/Listener Female
I was listening and I was just thinking, wow, that's a topic. That's me. Because my mom has an issue with a short temper and she was also a pack rat. And I have a two year old and it seems like nothing can be thrown away. I don't care if it's a toy that's been broken, he can't throw it away. And the temper he's already caught the short tempered, too little things make him mad.
Jeff
Are you a pack rat?
Caller/Listener Female
I am. I try so hard to throw everything away, but it gets to the point where it's so much stuff where I don't even look through it. I just have to throw it away. But it's so hard because I was so used to her keeping everything from notes to unnecessary stuff.
Jeff
That right there is a curse. And you know what? That's what I would. Because my parents do the same thing. I told you all about the tv, right? And that ended up a cousin of mine ended up taking it. But I got my parents a new tv. And my dad, I said, just go put the TV in the car and take it to a church or Goodwill and donate the old one. And he goes, nah, just put it in the basement. So I go down and put it in the basement next to the boat engine. They don't live on a lake.
Melissa
They may need it someday.
Caller/Listener Female
Someday.
Jeff
Behind the dresser on the shelf beneath my dad's beer can collection. Pack rats. So am I. And it drives me nuts. And I'm trying so hard to break that habit. I would not want to give that curse to a child.
Jessica
Well, it's all learned behavior. You're gonna mimic exactly what your parents do. No, we're not.
Jeff
We're changing it. Wendy. Hey, Brittany. Welcome to the show.
Melissa
Breaking the cycle.
Jeff
What's going on?
Caller/Listener Female
I am super, super OCD about everything. And my 4 year old already acts just like me. If I Put his shoes on and he didn't get to do it. He has to take them off and then put them back on because I did it. And like, I'll even. I'll turn off a light and he'll scream at me and go, and turn it back on and then turn it back off and then turn it back on because I did it.
Jessica
Is that OCD thing or is that more of a, you know, young kid? I want to do everything myself. Being independent.
Caller/Listener Female
Yeah. No, I mean it's, it's not normal. He's definitely not normal. It's like I have to do everything my own personal way. Like it has to be done exactly the way it has to be done. And he is just like that. I mean, it's, it's not like a normal four year old behavior. He's been doing it since he was like 2 years old. I mean, he has to do it just the way it has to be done. It has to be done several times before he's happy with it.
It's kind of crippling for kids once they have to change schools and stuff because they get so used to routine and repetition and patterns of behavior that, you know, when they go from like maybe pre K to a different school for kindergartner or, you know, elementary to middle or whatever, it's gonna be freaky for them.
Jeff
And I do think there's two different. I mean, OCD is a loosely used term. But isn't like OCD is a medical term where like some people have like the chemical in their brain.
Caller/Listener Female
Sounds like she and her son are that way.
Jeff
Right.
Caller/Listener Female
Tracy's a perfectionist.
Jessica
Yeah, I don't think, I mean, I don't think I actually have ocd, like the condition. I just think I like things to be perfect. But it was just like that one girl.
Caller/Listener Female
Your husband really has add or he's just creative.
Jessica
He's creative, but he definitely has add.
Jeff
And she can diagnose that because she has ocd.
Caller/Listener Female
Because sometimes I think that creative people are deemed ADD because their thought process is different. They're not linear thinkers, you know?
Jessica
Yeah. But I can tell a definite difference when he doesn't have his medication. Like if he's out of a prescription, I can definitely tell, like he just can't focus on anything. He's all over the place. Like his legs are like all, you know, he's tapping his leg the whole time. Nothing gets done.
Jeff
You come home and there's a half built dresser, there's a half painted room, there's a half Clean kitchen, there's a half eaten sandwich.
Jessica
Right? But once he has those. That medication, he's pretty. I mean, it works.
Melissa
And with ocd, isn't it? You know, people who really have OCD are the ones that always have to count their steps or they always have to. Everything has to be.
Jeff
That's how Lindsay was like from our show. She was pretty intense about stuff like that.
Melissa
She had a bad thought. Yeah, with Lindsay, there was. It wasn't when she had a bad thought, she'd have to touch her face. Touch her face. Yeah.
Jeff
Hey, is it Marla?
Caller/Listener Female
Marala, It's Marla.
Jeff
Marla. Hey, how are you?
Whitney
Hi.
Caller/Listener Female
I'm good. I'm sorry, y'. All, I have a very bad cold.
Jeff
Oh, that's no worries.
Melissa
Everybody talk to Jen. You all can understand each other.
Jeff
Yeah, everybody knows each other.
Caller/Listener Female
I love your show. You guys make me laugh every morning.
Melissa
Thank you.
Jeff
Thank you.
Caller/Listener Female
Let's see. I have a couple of ocd, but my kids actually get it from both sides. The pack rat thing. Number one, my mom has taxes in our attic, probably from the late 80s. Yeah, it's really sad. And every closet in our house is full. Yeah, it's a really bad situation. But the one that I just thought of, that I didn't tell the girl on the phone, was especially like, when I'm cooking, if it's raw chicken, I have to trim that piece of chicken to within an inch of its life. I mean, every little tiny scrap of white that I can see on that piece of chicken is gone. It's really intense. But my kids are funny. They're like, mama, you're having a moment. You know, you need to calm down.
Melissa
See, that's what I've I vision, Ella being in the future. Like, mom. It's okay, Mom. It's okay, mom doesn't have to be perfect. Mom.
Jeff
Hey, is it Andrea or the more formal Andrea? Hey, Andrea. How are you?
Caller/Listener Female
Great. How are you guys?
Jessica
Good.
Jeff
A word of warning for Tracy.
Caller/Listener Female
Yes. Well, first I just want to say, I know everybody says this, but I'm so freaked out that I got to talk to you. I listen to y' all every day.
Jeff
Oh, cool. Thank you.
Caller/Listener Female
And if anybody I know hears this, I'll just die. But anyway, they'll know it's me. But my first thing is I'm kind of ocd. But mine is like a time. Everything has to be on a certain time schedule. I kind of slip my lid if my kids don't adhere to it. And I've got three boys. But what I want to tell her is with my first son, the mistake I made was I'm a little bit of a perfectionist. Like, everything has to be perfect. And so I kind of did everything for him. Like, everything. I mean, dressed him, got him, you know, just did everything for him. He didn't. If I could wrap him up in like a bubble, I would have. But now he's 11 and he's like the laziest child that ever walked the earth. He can't do anything. He would lay in bed and like, wait for someone to bring him socks.
Jeff
Ella Grace will not be a lazy child.
Jessica
Oh, no, she will not. And she's not already.
Jeff
Ella Grace is already doing. Ella is already doing chores at the house and she's doing them properly. The dishes are stacked biggest to smallest, and she knows how to alphabetize soup. Good job, Tracy.
Jessica
And she can use Microsoft Excel.

But it's disgusting, to be honest. I mean, it smells, you know, and it's got some thyroid thing going on with it. It just doesn't look healthy. And you know, they're needy and you got to walk them and they just thought it work. And I really just. I don't have the time. I don't want to deal with it. But anyway, so long story short, I was talking with a friend at work and he was telling me about these breeders. You know, there's these people, you know, that want your dog. They want these purebred dogs, right? So they can. They can breed them and sell them and make their own money. But anyway, there's these breeders that are going to pay you, you know, $1,000 or $2,000 for your dog. And then the thing. So this is what. This is what I'm throwing out at you. I want to see what you think about This, I hear that these breeders will take your dog, but then you can visit from time to time if, you know, if, if you want to see it and see sort of how it's growing up and everything. So, you know, my thinking is that I can get rid of this dog, but, you know, if my in laws are coming around or, you know, or the kids just want to see it, we can go see the dog, sort of rent it for a little while, you know, and not have to deal with the whole process of living with this animal, you know, and taking care of it all day long. But it's still in our lives basically, when the in laws come.
Melissa
I really. Jeff said that this was a brilliant idea, and I just don't think it is because you're going to confuse your children. Either have the dog or don't have the dog. But, and I also.
Jeff
But how does he tell the in laws if they spend. I mean, if you get a purebred dog that can cost you a grand,
Melissa
how does he tell the in laws? Yeah, give them back.
Jack
Give you people. No, nothing goes back. Can't give it back.
Melissa
Well, your reaction to your in laws, I think that you're. I think you're doing your children a disservice by doing this, honestly. Because my dad, My dad and myself and my siblings and my father were all animal fans. And Millie Pete was not like, she did not understand why people loved their animals so much. She didn't understand why. She still doesn't understand why people cry when their animals pass away.
Caller/Listener Female
Really?
Melissa
She doesn't. She didn't.
Jeff
Was she a farm girl growing up?
Melissa
She was a farm girl growing up. She said, they're work animals, they're not pets. She's like, she didn't understand why they had to be in the house and our dogs were not allowed in the house and all that. But she still said, but you know what? My husband loves them. My children love them. As long as I don't have to deal with them, then I'm fine with it. So, you know, the fact that you're the only one in the family that doesn't like the animals, so your family can never have animals because you don't want them.
Jack
I'm not saying that. But what I will tell you is that if, you know, I'm gonna be the one that's taking care of this dog, you'll get the responsibility that ends up walking it. You know, none of them are gonna do it. My wife certainly isn't gonna touch the dog.
Jessica
Okay, why not? Your children why not put the responsibility on your children? If your children want to keep the dog and they need to learn the responsibilities of the dog.
Jack
Yeah. They're too young. It just, it just won't work. And I mean, you know, this way, the way I see it is I get paid and they take care of all the dirty work for the dog. I mean, it just seems like a win win to me.
Jeff
You know, I can see from now I'm just gonna, I'm gonna defend you from a guy's point of view because the way guys think it is a flawless plan he gets.
Melissa
So that's why y' all are a little simple.
Jeff
Right. I'm just saying. So, I mean, we gotta shoot holes in it because, I mean, we're gonna get a lot of calls like. Liz. Hey, Liz.
Caller/Listener Female
Hi, how are you?
Jeff
We're great. How are you?
Caller/Listener Female
I am good. Love your show.
Jeff
All right, thank you.
Caller/Listener Female
So for the caller, you know, I can appreciate that you don't like animals. You don't want to take care of it. You know, you're kind of a dad. You're probably gonna get stuck with it at some point in time. But, you know, if you could just consider for a moment the possibility of putting this poor animal or just this animal to some breeder who's going to breed it. Those puppies are going to go to some family who may have the same predicament that this man has where they don't want the animal, they don't care for the animal, and they're going to keep contributing to this overpopulation of dogs that we have. We have so many dogs without homes, and he would be contributing to that issue. And it's just, it's very upsetting because I love animals and I understand that he might not want the dog, but there's got to be some other way to deal with it than give it to a breeder.
Melissa
And I understand where Jeff's coming from that I know that you didn't hear anything she had to say about overpopulation of animals, everything. But here's my thing. A dog usually lives to be, you know, is it a standard poodle or a miniature poodle? I forgot what you said.
Jeff
The smaller the dog, the longer they live.
Melissa
So let's just, I don't know, whatever. So let's, let's say that it lives to be.
Jeff
She was just asking to be polite.
Melissa
Yes. Let's say the dog lives to be. Be 15 years old. Let's be ambitious. 15 years old. So you're going to go through this for 15 years with your in laws because you just don't want to stand up to them.
Jack
Well, you know, I.
Spinquest Announcer
Good point.
Jeff
Well, no, I think it's a lot
Jack
better than living with his dog every day.
Jeff
Have you taken into account the health of the in laws? Like will they live 15 years?
Melissa
Well, yeah. How old are your children? I mean, age range? If you don't give exact ages, they're.
Jack
They're approximately three and six.
Melissa
Okay, three and six. 15 years from now, one's gonna be graduating from high school and one's gonna be in college and they're still lying to their grandparents about the dog.
Jeff
They're gonna be in college and they're gonna be talking to their friends who think it's normal to go to a farm to visit their pet.
Melissa
Yeah, and that dog's not gonna still be there. I mean, it just. I think it's a very flawed plan.
Jeff
Hey, Angela. Welcome to the Birch show.
Caller/Listener Female
I'm smart. Sorry, but I want to just smack the living tar of this guy. I mean, if he gets tired of his wife, he's gonna rent her out to breed while he's just not dealing with her. I mean, come on, people. These dogs get bred so much that it just. It basically kills their body. And that his only reasoning is because I don't want to deal with the dog. Then get rid of the dog. But don't put the dog through a lifetime of torture. Yeah.
Jessica
No way.
Caller/Listener Female
This is ridiculous. I mean. I mean. Oh my God.
Jessica
Can you not find another family if you don't want to keep the dog?
Caller/Listener Female
I'll take the dog. I'll take the dog. Just don't do that to the dog.
Jack
Let's do it. Set it up.
Jeff
Leave us your address. He'll FedEx it to you for two grand.
Jack
Absolutely.
Caller/Listener Female
Seriously, I was a gift.
Melissa
No, wait a second.
Jeff
To the dog.
Melissa
Why are you profiting from this dog when it was a gift to you? Why are you going to sell it?
Jack
Well, it was more. That's just like a good option, you know? I mean, I'm not sell a dog
Melissa
that you don't want. No, I think. No, I think you didn't pay. You did not pay for this dog. So you don't deserve to get the $2,000 or whatever for this dog unless you reimburse your in laws for this.
Jeff
Is that true? Because now listen.
Melissa
Absolutely.
Caller/Listener Male
I'm just.
Jeff
I'm just. Let's take the dog out of it and let's say that it's. Let's say that for your birthday, you Received a digital camera that is identical to one that you already own.
Melissa
I would not feel good about selling that camera if it was from a family member.
Jeff
You put one of them up on ebay, you get sell for 100 bucks.
Melissa
Unless you know what? Let me tell you, sir, the only time I would do that is sir
Jeff
is me or him.
Melissa
Because I'm trying to still kind of be respectful, I guess, is that I would give that money to charity and I would, I would not like profit from your.
Jessica
A living thing, though.
Melissa
Yeah, from your bad attitude. You know what I mean about this dog.
Bert
It's not a digital camera.
Jessica
It's a living, breathing thing.
Jeff
Hey, Jackie, welcome to the bird show.
Whitney
Hey.
Caller/Listener Female
I just, I just wanted to say I disagree also with, with sending it to a breeder, as the other callers said. And I mean, you know, you, if, if you do go that route, make sure you research the breeder first and know exactly, you know, what's going to be going on there. Because there's a lot of, you know, backyard breeders, they mistreat their dogs and it's unnecessary. And you could more than likely find somebody who is willing to take the dog and raise it as a pet instead of breeding it to death or again, adding to the overpopulation of dogs in the area.
Jack
But if I give it to someone else, then the kids can never see it. So this way they can still go and see it occasionally. Seems like the best way.
Melissa
I think that's silly because again, your kids friends have dogs that live in their backyards and your kids have to go somewhere to visit it. I think if you teach your child about adoption, about adopting the dog out, and you all find a good family for the dog, and it can be because I think we're losing sight of the children in this. How cruel for this child, these children to be playing with this dog, and then all of a sudden the dog disappears and you say, we can go down the street and visit every once in a while, Commit one side or the other.
Jeff
I don't know if you want to teach the kids about adoption because then they may want to be adopted by
Jessica
someone else, by another guy.
Jack
Really?
Jeff
Hey, Michelle.
Caller/Listener Female
Good morning. How are you doing?
Jeff
We're good. How are you?
Caller/Listener Female
I don't agree with that man at all. I'll be more than welcome to come to his house and get that dog. Because you know what? If his kids gets on his nerves, what is he gonna do, trade them out, too?
Melissa
He's gonna sell them.
Jessica
He's gonna make a profit.
Jeff
You gotta come to the house and get one of his kids, too.
Melissa
Well, the issue.
Caller/Listener Female
Well, I'll be more than happy to come get them, too.
Melissa
Well, the issue is. The issue is he doesn't want to stand up to his end. The issue is that you're kind of wussing out about your in laws.
Jack
I don't see that as the issue. I really don't. The dog.
McDonald's Announcer
Give them back.
Jessica
Give them back to your in laws.
Melissa
Then if you give the dog back to the in laws, they may be able to give it back to where they got it from and get their money back. You don't get to profit from this.
Jeff
Didn't that happen with Bert? Remember when Burt adopted. Bert got like two bulldogs the. The week Hollis was born. Crazy, man. And it just ended up being too much. And the breeder that he got the dog from was able to find another family that wanted those dogs. So that is a valid point. Hey, Chris, you're on with Jack.
Caller/Listener Female
No, he's not.
Jeff
Nevermind.
Melissa
Are we calling Chris?
Caller/Listener Male
Yeah.
Jeff
Everybody's pretty much saying the same thing. Warning you. Would it be different here in the room? Melissa and Wendy? Would it be different if the dog wasn't going to a breeder but was going to like a. A person who's going to show it?
Melissa
I mean, I. I'm just having issues.
Jessica
Take care of it.
Melissa
Well, I have an issue with the message he's sending to his kids that he can't talk to his in laws and that he wants to profit from. But there's so many layers to this story.
Jeff
You know, Jack, if. If the advice you were looking for is, should I take this idea to my wife? I think that the vote.
Jack
I got my answer already.
Jeff
Yeah. The answer is no, I think.
Melissa
Rethink it.
Jeff
Yeah. I think you need to grow to do it.
Caller/Listener Female
It's. It.
Jack
It makes the most sense. This is the way to go.
Jeff
All right. Thank you for calling.
Melissa
Bless your wife.
Jeff
Yes.
Jessica
Sorry for your kids.
Jeff
It is amazing. People who contact this show to ask for advice, get advice, and then they want.
Melissa
I think they want public acknowledgment that they're right. And when they don't get it, they don't care.
Whitney
Right.
Jessica
You know, is there one person that's called up saying they do it?
Jeff
Zero. But we have, like, four people who want to adopt a dog. So we'll get their numbers, but he won't do anything with it.

Jeff
The third show the most probably asked about thing this started at when Burt was here like middle of last week. Monday of last week we started off talking to Whitney and this is Whitney's very first time she's on with us talking about a guy who comes to her townhome community every day.
Whitney
First of all, I live in a gated townhome community and he comes in about 9:45 every day and he pretty much Gets out of his car. Sometimes he'll grab something out of his. The trunk or the back seat when he's walking down there. He's also looking around to see if anyone's looking at him. And then he goes in the townhome. He goes in for about four or five minutes and comes back out, goes to his car, and then drives away.
Jeff
So that was Whitney's very first time with us. And Whitney joins us again. Hey, Whitney, how are you?
Whitney
Hi.
Caller/Listener Female
Good.
Whitney
How are you?
Jeff
We're good. Okay.
Melissa
Adjusting the voice disguiser.
Jeff
Adjusting the voice disguiser. So you remain anonymous. So we talked to Whitney a few times, and we actually watched the guy, after we talked about her, pull up while she was on us. And then he made a U turn and left, which is something she had never noticed before. So we thought he was onto us. Then we realized we had to send somebody out there.
Melissa
And who else to send out?
Caller/Listener Male
Frankie.
Jeff
Frankie from our promotions department. He said he'd be all over it. So Frankie went out and hung out with Whitney one morning and actually had interaction with the guy.
Caller/Listener Female
So he pulled in at 9:45 on the dot. You know, I asked him, I was like, excuse me, do you live here? And he said, yes. He said he lives in the neighborhood. And I was like, I was wondering if, you know, if there are any townhomes here for sale. And he said, yeah, I think so. But he wasn't sure which ones were vacant or not. He was kind of stand buffish and kind of shady about the whole thing. And after he left, I walked by the house that he walks into, and there is a real estate lockbox on the front door.
Jeff
So the mystery deepens.
Melissa
Yes.
Jeff
And Frankie, being the generous guy that he is, offered to stage a stakeout.
Frankie
I'm just nosy.
Melissa
This just gives you a reason. You do this all the time.
Jeff
Well, this is going to be his stalking with a reason, because we need to know for. I'm just curious. So he coordinated with Whitney, and who'd you recall? Get your sister or somebody to help you.
Frankie
Yeah, my sister.
Melissa
Really nice.
Jeff
It's a family affair. This creeping.
Frankie
That was fun.
Jessica
So did you do the camouflage thing? Paint under your eyes?
Frankie
Well, I watched spy games before I went.
Jessica
Fair enough.
Frankie
You know, just to brush up.
Jeff
At any point, did you have to urinate into a bottle in your car?
Frankie
No, but I did.
Jessica
Just for fun.
Jeff
So, Whitney, have you gotten an update from Frankie yet since the stakeout, or are you gonna be hearing it for the first time with us?
Whitney
I'll be hearing it for the first time.
Caller/Listener Female
Okay.
Melissa
Okay.
Jeff
So, Frank, you actually did the stakeout Thursday into Friday, right?
Frankie
Yes.
Jeff
All right. Frankie was sneaky about it because he was trying to save. Save a treat for Burt coming back. But we don't know if that's ever gonna happen now. All right, Frank, you tell us what happened.
Frankie
All right, so we went in and we hid behind the wall.
Jeff
Are you in a car or.
Frankie
Well, we got out of the car to walk around to see if we saw his car.
Jeff
Okay.
Frankie
We didn't. We didn't see his car at all.
Melissa
Did you dress all in black and, like, shimmy down the wall?
Frankie
I didn't want to be. I didn't want to be that covert about it because then the other neighbors looking out the window were like, what is this?
Melissa
That's true.
Jeff
91 1.
Frankie
Yeah. So we. We looked at the house and there was a TV on.
Jeff
Now, what time are you there? This is around 9:00am or p.m. no,
Melissa
this is p.m. thursday night at 9.
Frankie
Yeah, just check them out. And there was no.
Jeff
Now, we don't know. Your sister. Is she hot? Were you using her as bait? Like, is she hot?
Frankie
She just wanted to come along. We talked about it because it bothered me that I couldn't figure this guy was. So I talked to a bunch of people about what they thought, and I got all types of different stories, like he's a murderer or blah, blah, blah, blah. But so we went. There was a TV on.
Jeff
Get your sister to join you for that.
Frankie
Yeah, well, she wanted to, so that was the sick part. So there was a TV on all night and that was it. No movement, nothing.
Melissa
You didn't see anybody in the.
Frankie
Not at all. So, you know, I got really frustrated and went and got the address. And because I'm connected, I went and looked up on the FMLS website and found out who the real estate agent lady was.
Jessica
What is the fmls?
Frankie
It's multi listing real estate.
Jeff
It's like if you're gonna buy a house and you can tell your real estate agent, I want to buy a house that costs $100,000 that's in this zip code. And then they can type that information in and it shows you every one of the houses. Here's 10 houses to choose from.
Frankie
Yeah. And it gives you the active listing, all the information about real estate agents, everything. Like, so did that and got her number and found out that she is the owner. And what really bothers me the most is the guy never said anything to me about, oh, yeah, well, this house is for sale. And it is an active listing.
Jeff
But he said you asked him specifically, are there any houses for sale?
Frankie
And he didn't bring. He didn't say anything about, oh, I'm a real estate agent, or he did not say, well, this house is for sale. Nothing like that. He totally just walked away from all of that.
Jeff
So now, have you spoken with the real estate agent?
Frankie
No, I wanted to wait to talk to you guys first before I called the real estate agent.
Melissa
Yes, because I, you know, if it's an active listing, it should be an empty house. Unless. Well, I guess, no, if it's for sale, the person could still live there. So why.
Frankie
Why wouldn't he. Why wouldn't he say, my wife or. Yes, this one is for sale or something like that. When the owner is a woman and the real estate. The real estate agent is the owner and she's actively selling it because he has a key.
Melissa
So the real estate agent is the owner. And because I'm curious, who lives there, because if a TV's on, somebody was inside that house.
Jeff
Well, that could be a timer thing too, right? Like security?
Frankie
It could be. Or it could be that he turned. Maybe he goes in and turns the TV on at night to prevent people from breaking in and then shows up every morning to shut it off.
Melissa
Maybe.
Frankie
It could be something like that.
Melissa
It'd be innocent like that.
Jessica
But if he didn't mention that the house was for sale, he would know that if he had to go in there and turn off the tv. But what worries me is that he has a key and we don't know who this guy is, but is coming in.
Jeff
What worries me is how interested we all are in this story about people we don't know.
Melissa
I know, I know. We're just curious. See. See how it works?
Jeff
Look what you've done to us, Whitney.
Whitney
I'm sorry.
Melissa
Have you ever seen anybody come in and out of that house that you've noticed? Because I know you don't sit and stare out your window all the time, but I'm just. You know, when you've been outside or whatever, have you ever noticed anybody coming in, out of the house later in the day?
Whitney
No. No, I haven't.
Jeff
Okay, so now then, here's the two questions. One, I think we would need to have. I would like to hear from, like, a real estate professional. Like, is there any reason.
Melissa
Are you the one that owns that house?
Jeff
Right. Or anybody? I'm wondering, is there a realtor, any reason that a realtor who would own a property would. Would own it and have it listed but not be actively selling it? Like, maybe. Is there a tax break? Like, what if she bought it, like, as an investment property, but doesn't want to sell it till the market changes, but has to keep it listed so it's an investment.
Melissa
Frankie, did you see on the site, was it an active listing?
Frankie
It was an active listing.
Melissa
It was an active listing.
Jeff
That's what I'm saying. Like keeping it as an active listing but not showing intentionally.
Melissa
In this market, every realtor, I'm sure, is dying to sell homes.
Jeff
Not if she bought it for 150,000 and can only get 90,000 for it.
Frankie
Right now, the listing for it is probably double that. Actually.
Jeff
That's like, oh, 320.
Whitney
Our home. It was. I mean, it wasn't on the market for very long. They. I mean, these homes go very quickly, and I don't know if now, because of the economy, it's different, but they don't go for sale for very long. A lot of people are really interested in them.
Jeff
Now that we know what kind of neighborhood you live in, Whitney, it's $100 every time you're on the air with us.
Melissa
Retro.
Caller/Listener Male
Yes.
Jeff
Hey, Nene. Welcome to the Bird Show.
Caller/Listener Female
Hey, guys. I was just gonna say maybe the guy's renting and he doesn't want it to sell because if it sells, then he's gonna have to move out.
Jessica
Okay, that's a good point. For five minutes?
Frankie
Yeah. He only shows up every morning for five minutes. Why. Why would you rent that?
Caller/Listener Female
Oh, I. I caught at the end, so I didn't know he was only there for five minutes a day, so I don't know. Okay, scratch that then. Sorry.
Jeff
Listen to Frankie scaring our listeners.
Melissa
I know Frankie. Don't be so mean.
Frankie
Look, I put a lot of time into this.
Jeff
Hey, Brandy. Welcome to the Bird Show.
Caller/Listener Female
Hi.
Jeff
What's going on?
Caller/Listener Female
I was just calling because my husband does private security for real estate agents every once in a while, and he will not tell a stranger walking up that a house is for sale because he doesn't want it to be a target when he can't check it during the night.
Frankie
Well, is he kind of creepy, have gray hair and drive a BMW? This might be our answer.
Caller/Listener Female
That's not my husband, but there might be another one out there.
Jeff
Well, talk to us about security for real estate. So, like, if I have a house listed that I can't visit on a regular basis, I can hire someone to check on it every day?
Caller/Listener Female
Yes, you can hire them to come out. They change the Locks or they. They check all the locks and then they'll come in, do a walk through. And they usually have about 20 properties they do a day.
Melissa
I bet that's what this dude does. But why would he. But wait, but the. But the kink is why would he park away from it?
Caller/Listener Female
Because he doesn't want it to be a target. So, I mean, since people that he's not living there and that the back door is possibly unlocked or easier to access, I mean, he doesn't want anyone coming through when he's not there to check it.
Melissa
So he would park away from a property and walk to it.
Caller/Listener Female
Yes.
Jeff
Okay, Makes sense. Okay, thank you for the insight, Brandi. Hey, Kimberly, welcome to the show.
Caller/Listener Female
Hello. How are you?
Jeff
We're great. How are you?
Caller/Listener Female
Great. I'm also a real estate agent, and one of the reasons why the property could potentially be on the market for sale is if she is a real estate agent, she might be on the brink of potentially losing the property. She might be in pre foreclosure or foreclosure. In order for her to make a deal on the house, for example, a short sale which would protect her, she still has to sell the home, but she can sell it at a much lower price than what the house is worth. A lot of times the banks require that the house be on the market for a relatively short period of time.
Jeff
So she's trying to keep the house on the market for long enough that the bank is satisfied, but not sell it. So she can get the bank to cover her mortgage it.
Caller/Listener Female
Well, it will find someone else who can short sell it, which. Which would be purchase the house at a much lower price than what the house is worth.
Jeff
Okay.
Caller/Listener Female
The bank will require that it be on the market so that any potential buyer could buy the house. But the key is as a real estate agent and she's the owner. It's still up to her as an owner to determine if she wants to sell it to person A or person B or person C, who might be her family.
Jeff
Okay, so here's the. Here's the question. And Whitney, I think we'll all weigh in on this. But you can. I think you can have the ultimate say. I think the natural next thing to do is for investigator Frankie to place a phone call to the real estate agent, slash owner, because you would have contact information. Information, right, from the. Frankie
I do have. Well, I have it in my phone just in case you guys wanted it
Melissa
that he got out of the bathroom.
Jeff
So maybe Frankie just Places a call to her and. And is completely honest.
Melissa
Yeah.
Jeff
Says, look, here's. Here's the deal. I'm calling because a neighbor has. Blah, blah, blah.
Melissa
Maybe not talk about stalking the property. I would probably leave that out of the conversation.
Jeff
No, but, I mean, I don't even. I don't even know if the whole radio thing totally needs to come up. He can just say, I have a friend of mine who lives in the. In the neighborhood, and there's a guy who approaches that house every day for five minutes. We just want to make sure that you are aware of this person.
Melissa
Right.
Jeff
And know what he's doing.
Melissa
And then she can confirm, you know, that if he's the security guy.
Jeff
Whitney.
Whitney
Yes.
Jeff
You like that?
Caller/Listener Female
I think that's good.
Whitney
I have a little more information to let you guys know also.
Melissa
Well, I'm glad you.
Whitney
Hang on.
Melissa
I'm glad you saved it to the end. I'm glad you say that till the end.
Whitney
Let you guys get done with everything.
Caller/Listener Male
All right.
Jeff
What do you got, Whitney?
Melissa
She didn't want to be rude.
Whitney
I mean, like, he didn't come on Friday. He just pulled up right now. He's going down there.
Melissa
Was it 9:46? He's on time.
Whitney
I was gonna let you know on Friday, I had to go to a doctor's appointment, and I went out the other exit that normally don't go out, and his car was parked in a driveway over there. And so I called you guys on Friday and kind of, like, was getting. Just let you know, and stuff. And then all weekend, I kind of saw him in and out of that driveway. So I don't know if he really does live here and he's doing something over there, otherwise.
Jeff
So you saw him in a driveway of another townhome in the same community?
Whitney
Yes. He was parked. It was, like, across. In a. The unit of townhomes across the street from the ones that he goes into.
Melissa
But that's different than where he pulls in, like, at 9:40, like, right now, everyone. I still think that's odd.
Jeff
We got a call.
Whitney
It makes me wonder if he, like, leaves the driveway that he's parked in, comes over here and parks and goes down.
Melissa
Well, again, he may do that if he's a security guy and he's having to, you know. But we'll see. We'll see. When Frankie calls. Frankie makes the call.
Jeff
All right, Frankie, that is your. That is your mission. All right, the saga continues.
Melissa
Let me ask one question. Did we ever get. Remember that caller that was a little attracted to Frankie Oh, God. When we first talked.
Jeff
Oh, yeah. If you're interested in Frankie, you can go ahead and send us an email
Melissa
we never hooked you up with.
Frankie
So weird.
Melissa
Hooked you up with her?
Frankie
No. Okay, sent me a number. But what am I gonna do?
Caller/Listener Male
Really?
Frankie
Hey, you saw me on the radio.
Jack
Hey, Quinn's friend Frankie.
Jeff
Hey, you want to go on a stakeout?
Spinquest Announcer
Yeah.
Jeff
I promise. I love you, but I won't stalk you the way I stalk Whitney's neighbor. All right, Whitney, we'll check in with you tomorrow after Frankie makes the call.
Caller/Listener Male

Ah, so you're not stuck with whatever
Melissa
the AI gives you.
Caller/Listener Female
Nope.
Jessica
I mean, the results are pretty nice, but you can jump in and mess with whatever.

Cast Reflection:
The show maintains a conversational, humorous, and at times irreverent tone, mixing light-hearted banter with real talk and empathy for listeners’ dilemmas. Callers’ stories bring authenticity, while the hosts balance humor and advice.
This episode gives listeners a relatable, comedic, and sometimes sobering look into the small (and not-so-small) dramas of modern life: from kid-detected red flags in relationships, to the quirks that haunt us across generations, and the complex choices around animal welfare. True to The Bert Show’s style, the hosts tackle each topic with humor, candor, and a lot of audience engagement.
